On the right hand side of the kitchen corridor is a large stack of barrels, which may seem unimportant to most students but which are invaluable to the badgers of Hufflepuff. The entrance to the Hufflepuff Common Room is located just behind these barrels.
In order to reveal the entrance, one must tap the barrel two from the bottom, in the middle of the second row, in the rhythm of 'Helga Hufflepuff.' This will make the barrel's lid swing open, exposing a crawl-way that will lead to the common room. However, if either the rhythm of tapping is wrong or the wrong lid is tapped, the intruder will be doused in vinegar and barred access.
The entrance to the Hufflepuff common room is the only entrance which is repels intruders AND bars access to those who don't belong. If you are waiting on a friend from Hufflepuff, you can lean against one of these barrels and wait for them to appear. Don't try to sneak in, though; no one from another House has been in the Badger's common room in over 1,000 years!
She'd told Alice she'd be here. And really, Lottie was only a few steps away from the barrels. Mags, her bright pink pygmy puff was sort of walking from one side to the other (of the barrels), like guarding an entrance to some place.
The second year girl was merely leaning against the wall, playing with her wand in her hands. As if waiting for someone to attack all of the sudden. Of course, she wasn't, she was only passing time before Queen Alice made an appearance.
20 feet.
Surely, the Queen could afford much closeness than that. But it was something.

Hufflepuffs. Yes, Alice knew where their common room entrance was. She.. she just didn't know how to get IN. But that was okay, because all the food was in the kitchen, anyway, so she need not worry, right? Right. But she had plenty to worry about today, because Lottie was forcing her to meet a pygmy puff. Just the thought of seeing one of those things made her shudder and sent shivers crawling down her spine. Those.. those creepy little balls of fur, with their ginormous, beady eyes that seemed to bore into her soul..
They weren't SCARY. No. Just mildly perturbing. That was all. She swore to herself, that was all.
Why was she doing this, again? She didn't know. It was a bad idea, and it would most probably result in her running back to the seventh floor while screaming bloody murder. That she was sure of. And she might lose house points for that, yeah? Alice was contemplating it as she turned a corner, ending up right in front of the Hufflepuff barrels. And there was Lottie. "Hey, Lot," she greeted. And she didn't see a scary little ball of fur anywhere nearby. That.. that was good.
.. what was that thing on the floor there, though? A bright pink blob.. of fur.
Alice took a couple steps back. 25 feet.

Why, of course, we heard the footsteps, and it turned out they belonged to Queen Alice.
Lottie, most immediately, straightened up, smiling at the Gryffindor Captain. The smile quickly dissipated. HOW MANY TIMES, ALICE? How many times?! "LOTTIE," she corrected, making emphasis in the 'tie' part. Not cool Alice Fischer, not cool. "Or Lotus, but you can call me Lottie," that's what they'd agreed on the first time they met, yeah? Yeah.
BUT...OHNO! She noticed.
"Alice, those are more than 20 feet," she crossed her arms in front of her chest and almost tapped her foot against the floor, but, you know, she didn't. The second year turned around and eyed the pygmy puff, still moving from side to side, "Stay," she said, softly, but the pygmy puff did NOT listen, "I said Stay!" the tone was still soft, but something made it work, for the creature bounced on its own space before finally staying put.
It was looking at Alice, but who can tell?
"She'll do nothing, see? I think you can come a little closer,"BEAM. Invitation.

"Mhm, whatever you say, Lot," Alice answered distractedly, eyes still on the pygmy puff. It was bouncing around like it was on a sugar high, and it made her feel.. uncomfortable. What if it came closer? What if she ran out of space and was cornered up against the wall? What if it hopped near enough for it to stare at her with those creepy, beady eyes? The ones that bore into her soul and being and could see every one of her deepest darkest secrets? The eyes that made her think that the pygmy puff was out to get her?
She took another few steps back. 27 feet.
"I don't care. It's going to KILL me. Can't you tell?" Lottie wanted her to die, didn't she? Alice warily eyed the moving pygmy puff from her spot, now 28 feet away. "No, it wants to kill me. I'm pretty sure." She stared at the Hufflepuff from afar. "I.. I don't want to. I think I'm okay back here. I've got a nice view." Yes, she was definitely not mildly perturbed. More like mildly frightened to death.
.. but Lottie wouldn't bring the thing CLOSER, would she? She wouldn't. She wouldn't dare. 29 feet.

Was this some sort of nickname? Only a Gryffindor would think of shortening 'Lottie' or 'Lotus'. Really smart, not really. Lottie merely rolled her eyes at this, fine, she wouldn't correct again. Why? Because Alice was completely terrified of the little fluff of hair standing 20-something feet from her and wouldn't listen.
SIGH. "Mags has never killed anyone, and I hardly doubt she can digest a WHOLE human person when she can't finish a whole muffin," they shared, you see? Lottie always ate half, and Mags the other half. Such a spoiled pygmy puff, this one.
The girl was walking towards Alice, the pygmy puff didn't follow, she stayed in place as she was told, the only thing that changed was that she was no longer looking towards Alice, a painting had gained her attention. "Is a she, by the way, stop called her 'It'," it is a female pygmy puff, apparently, hopefully, that's what the man in the store said, according to her aunt, "You don't want to see her anymore, do you?" she said, tilting her head to one side, standing next to Alice.

A whole muffin? If she didn't eat the whole thing, then who did? .. Lottie didn't share food with the demonic animal, did she? It wasn't SAFE. Their mouths were probably dripping with poisonous venom and things. And Alice didn't want her little evil Hufflepuff to die. She quite liked Lottie, mmhmm. She wanted to keep her for a very long time. "She doesn't have to eat me. There are other ways to kill." And the lioness bet that Mags probably knew LOADS of them.
When Lottie began to step forward, Alice couldn't help but cringe a little bit. Her face only relaxed when she noticed that the pygmy puff had remained in place. Good. She didn't want the thing near her, anyway. "Yes. Sorry. SHE. She makes me uncomfortable."Squirm. Could Lottie get the thing away from her now? It would be awfully helpful. "I.. no.. I don't mind seeing her.. it's just that.." The fourth year hesitated, feeling a little bad for chewing out the girl's pet. ".. it scares me," she concluded in a whisper. It was weird. It was creepy. It almost seemed OMNISCIENT.

SIGH.
Come on, Alice. "I don't think she's ever kill anything or anyone, I'm positive she won't do so unless I say so," not even then. And Lottie wasn't planning on killing anyone either, she wasn't like that. But...just in case, just be nice to Lottie and you'll be safe. It was quite possible she'll send the pygmy puff to lick someone's food or something. There was, like, zero harm in that. It'd still be fun.
OH, IDEA! For Milton.
OKAY. Fine. "It's okay, Alice," it was, because Lottie then signaled the puff to go away. Into the Common Room. Out of Alice's sight. The pygmy puff knew her way in. The thing even knew where to go once inside. Mags was off to taking a nap in a made-up bed for her on Lottie's nightstand. It was rather cute, and it was not pink. It was silver.
"She's far away now, and you don't have to see her again," the girl was nodding, eyes on Alice, "Why don't we go to the Great Hall and eat something, yeah?" or drink something, because Alice could use a glass of water right now.

"She might. Pygmy puffs are unpredictable. And murderous." Lottie should have at least had known this about her own pet, yeah? Especially if it was living with her. What if it GOT Lottie in the middle of the night? Alice would be cross, mmhmm. She would hunt that thing down.. if she was brave enough to some within 20 feet of it again.
But Lottie had sent it away. GOOD. The thing was gone. She could relax now.
The visible tension on her face slowly faded away. "I don't ever want to. Ever." It was a relief that the Hufflepuff didn't take Mags everywhere, wasn't it? "Yeah. Food sounds nice." It sounded safe, too, much less dangerous than little balls of fur similar to the one that just left her sight. "We can go get some candy in the Great Hall?" Did Lottie like candy? Pfft. What a silly question to ask. Who didn't like candy?
And so Alice held out her arm for the Hufflepuff to take. 'Cause, y'know, she and Melanie always linked arms and skipped when they went to get food. So she and Lottie could do the same, yeah? Because they were friends.

Hmmm. Unpredictable. "People are unpredictable sometimes, too, you know?" Some more than others, of course. Lottie didn't know in which category she belonged, and quite frankly, she didn't know where Alice belonged either. Surely, one could predict that this very same behavior will happen in front of all and every pygmy puff.
And she wouldn't judge just based on this.
Merlin, her face lit up. Her expression changed so quickly, it was amazing. So, Alice was afraid of them. Wow. "You don't have to, it's fine," really, it was. Though, if Mags were around, then she'd probably would've gotten her feelings hurt. Poor pygmy puff. Lottie wouldn't really tell her, though.
Oh, see? Food sounded nice. Alice was recovering some of that lost color on her skin that went away the moment she saw the pygmy puff. "We'll get some food, then," she was positively beaming by now. It was a smart question, because she didn't like ALL types of candy, only ALL that was given to her. So, basically, she didn't like to BUY candy, but others getting it for her...that was another story. Right, Alec? "Of course! Not too much on the chocolate part, but I like it," both chocolate and candy.
Oooooh. THAT was a sign of friendship, right? She liked Alice, she was cool, so she took her arm. Off to the Great Hall. ^^
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Using the Gemino Charm, Jory had cast it on his original poster he made in Muggle Studies class. It was his poster of the Board of Governor, Andrew Rose. He had other choices but in the end he had decided to go with Rose.
The Puffer was now standing by the entrance of his Common Room, the Barrels and was trying to decide which part on the wall to hang the first posted. “How about just here?’’ he thought, looking at the wall opposite to where he was standing. It was perfect, anyone who came along would see it, Hufflepuff or not.
Jory took one of the posters and after using the Sticking Charm, he fastened it onto the wall. “One down!’’ He headed off in search of somewhere else to hang the nest one.
Zombie Apocalypse Team Leader ★ ★ in a crown of pepperoni and artisan cheese
After finishing up his poster for Muggle Studies, Dylan headed out...He was prepared to stick them on any and everything. Nothing would be safe from his handy-dandy Adhaero! charm...and he already knew were he wanted the first one to go.
Down by Hufflepuff, of course...less they forget their minds and vote for the wrong people. No matter, though! That's what he was here for...to spread the good word about the RIGHT candidate.
With impressive stealth, the Slytherin Captain slipped down to the entrance of the Hufflepuff common room...almost like a spikey-haired Slytherin ninja, if he could say that. Brandishing his wand, Dylan pulled one of the posters and muttered "Adhaero!", successfully attaching it to the stretch of wall beside the barrel-stack.
SMIRK.
Feeling as though a civic duty had been performed, Dylan tucked his wand away and set off to litter more areas.
