Default Flying Basics

On a cloudy, windless day, a slightly perturbed Professor James stood in the middle of the practice pitch between two long lines of school broomsticks in the grass. She was eyeing the brooms with apprehension; she had tested out a few of them for safety, but were all of the school brooms really reliable? Stop worrying, Erin. Surely Professor Vindictus would have disposed of any broomsticks that had given anyone trouble in the past, right? The students would be fine - but she did make a mental note to work on improving the school broomsticks for the following term. These students deserved better. Even if the brooms flew fine, the appearance mattered, too, didn't it? The kids needed to be able to trust the brooms.

With one hand clung to the shiny silver whistle around her neck and the other rested anxiously on her waist, James awaited the arrival of bright new faces who were eager to learn.

OOC: This class is going to cover the basics of flying; in other words, this is a class for first years and those who wish to brush up on their flying skills. More advanced flyers are by no means required to attend. Please review the classroom rules before posting in this thread!

Finally it was her turn, she thought over her technique in her head again. She was going to start from the side closest to the hoops she was doing before and from below 10 feet (four times her height) , that way she would keep going diagonally up from the red hoop before she got to the orange hoop that stood tall at 20 feet (eight times her height). Now she had to plan it right with the timing of the moving hoop, as she wanted to make sure not to get trapped in by the moving hoop. She decended to the right level and when the hoop was in the right position she leaned forward, making sure her broom was facing the right direction and zoomed up, sailing through the red hoop quick and was headed fir the orange hoop when she remembered. She forgot to take the timings of the second hoop into account.

Now this required thinking on the job, in the 10 remaining feet she had to turn her broom a bit to make the moving orange hoop. Could she make it? Yes, she could. Why? Because she was going to try. She turned her broom to the one direction and then to the other, making sure that she would be able to reach the orange hoop vertically at the same time she met it horizontally. As the broom neared its destination, Sarah pulled her face of hard work, her forehead showing her concentration, her eyes remaining fixed on the orange hoop. I can do it, she told herself as the broom soared through the orange circumference of the loop where she breathed a sigh of relief before turning her broom around in the direction of the yellow hoop, which was in the opposite direction. Here too seemed easier so as she flew she began to think of the challenge of getting to the green hoop which was not so far from the orange hoop, yet the distance nearly tripled from the yellow hoop to the green one.

It was a good job that Bliss was relatively patient, cos this was quite a long queue that she was in. She was now half way into it and she was mentally preparing herself for the same turns, she was quite confident that she could do it again, but maybe not.

Finally it was her turn.

She looked over the course once again and then lent forward and zoomed forward. One after the other she completed each turn and corner. This was fuuun. She looked back for a millisecond, but it was a millisecond too much and before she knew it, she thwacked into one of the posts and had lost her balance a little. Bliss stopped and regained her balance, turning her and her broom around and flew to the back of the queue.

Well that was embarrassing.

Her first turns were brilliant and Kat seemed to be pleased with her flying skills. Hah, she can totally take advantage of them on the Pitch during tryouts. She knows she'll be good anyway, and she'll totally be awesome as Keeper. Hopefully. She didn't like to put pressure on herself. So she'll just impress everyone watching her. Especially Dylan, cos he was captain and she wanted to be in the team AGAIN.

So when it was her turn, and it was testing her impatience so bad, Kat kicked off the ground immediately and flew to the post. She leaned in towards her broom just a bit so that it wasn't too fast, and kinda of raised both her hands. HAH. Balance, yo. And then when she turned around the post again, she gripped onto her broomstick. Dang, it was ancient and she wanted to use her personal broom. Gosh.

When she landed, she went over to the next activity. So... heights? SNORT. Fear not, Katrina Hudson was not scared of heights.

As the yellow one got closer Sarah knew she was right about not worrying. This was all planned out, the timing of the hoops so if you don’t interrupt the flow of things.. just go with it. By now she was up in the air, far up, yet Sarah was not the kind to be afraid of heights so she just looked up at the yellow hoop. 5.4.3.2.1... and she zoomed through it, then she quickly turned the broom downwards and changed directions like the direction she had started with originally. Then, not thinking that the current sspeed at that incline would get her there she made the broom face a bit lower. So there she was flying along until she realized that she had made it go too low, so she immediate adjusted the broom so the decline was not so much, yet it was too late she had gone lower then the hoop and she had still not reached the hoop. She then yanked the handle upwards, so she would be able to reach the green hoop in time. She did, then she looked around for the next hoop, and seeing it not below her or at the side of her she looked up and there it was – standing taller then the yellow hoop was the blue hoop.

The blue hoop was different to the others, thought Sarah. Something did not seem to match in her mathematical equation for the hoop and the blue hoop itself. After moving her broom handle upwards and turning her broom around Sarah looked at it – what was different. Was the hoop unpredictable? Because it seemed to have changed its speed from the one Sarah had taken down before. As she neared the blue hoop her thoughts kept on changing whether she would make the hoop or not. Finally, she was about to reach it when the hoop moved – it was moving away from her. Sarah leaned forward in an effort to speed up, yet it was too late, she could no longer reach it from the direction she was travelling in. This warranted a quick change of direction as she went zooming into the hoop.

Since when did Kat become scared of moving hoops and heights and getting bumped?

Hmm...

Nah.

The second activity made Kat's ears perk. She liked heights and she also loved to bump people. It was totally a good combination. And since they were moving hoops, Kat could bump into a random firstie so that she had to repeat it again. Shame, but fun to imagine.

The blonde went in line again. She was secretly wishing that she could just barge in front and just kick off right away. Impatience, and Professor James was testing her. FOR REAL. Ok. Tick tock tick tock...

HER TURN. FINALLY. Kat had a smirk on her face and mounted her broom. Then... kicked off. Gosh, rainbow colored hoops. So eye-catchy. BAAAH. Going through the first hoop, Kat ducked. She didn't touch it. It was a bit easy. Then she fell 10 feet higher, approximately at least, and went through the orange hope.

Now for her rainbow list:
R.O.Y.G.B.V.

Oh well, sucks for indigo.

After that little embarrassment, Bliss was eager to prove that she could do it again.

This time WITHOUT loosing concentration.

It had been her that had mentioned how key concentration was and then she went and did that. Well, it was just fantastic. She was to the front of the queue once again before she knew it. Probably because she'd spent so long grumbling to herself about being stupid. Concentration was key. She'd remember than now, forever, it would never leave her Quidditch brain. With that, she flew towards the first turn...

ZOOOOM. TURN. ZOOOOOM. Eeeep, carefully turn. She'd almost done it again. Bliss carried on going at full speed, skillfully turning each corner and not taking her eyes off the next turns. She was almost there now. ZOOOOOM and TUUURN and DONE. Bliss threw her hand back and let out a laugh, now back down to the ground to await the next task.

Alice wanted to go through ONE last time. Not because she thought it was fun, though she did. It was on account of her being one of the only top players that rode a school broom for actual matches. Because they were more difficult to ride, not as hifh-quality and cushion-y as the nicer ones, even with the charms James had put on them. And now that she was a Captain, she had to be even better on one of these things. Because Quidditch didn't only revolve around biting and Beating, nope. It was.. like.. 1% flying, too.

So she put on her determined face and went again.

She waited for another LONG period of time before making it to the front again. Soon enough, she was maneuvering through the markers once more, faster than both of her previous attempts. Alice was passing the poles so fast that they wede vibrating a little as she flew around them. It had been a good idea to tie her hair up, because if she hadn't, it would be going every which way about now. She narrowly avoided smashing into a couple of markers at the end, but she was still beamislng from ear to ear.

Victory lap time? She thought so.

Ahhh yes, Alex was definitely ready for something new! Leaving his activity at the poles, he slowly flew over to the hoops, getting in the line that had formed. Once he was at the front, he eyed the red hoop. He knew he was much better at this than turning, this should be easy as pie!

He rose a little in the air and headed straight for the middle of the hoop. WOOOT! One down, he passed through it perfectly! Now to descend just a bit to hit the orange one...DING! Yet another perfect passage through the circle. This exercise was super easy for Alex, if only he could score points by flying THROUGH the hoops while playing Keeper, then he'd be even more proud of his flying abilities!

The moment Alyssa heard the Professor's whistle, she slowed down by pulling back ever so gently on the broom handle. Then she flew over to where the Professor was standing and listened as she gave instructions for the next portion of the class.

They were to fly through the moving hoops. 'Okay that sounds like fun.' Alyssa thought to herself and she flew towards the moving hoops. Hovering near the hoops, she first studied their momentum and the timing of each hoop, as they moved back and forth. She then judged the speed of each hoop as it moved.

She was willing to give it a try. The first hoop she had to navigate through was the red, followed by the orange then yellow, green, blue and then purple.

Leaning forward on her broomstick and headed for the red hoop. Pointing her broom handle downwards, Alyssa leaned forward and started a little closer to the ground until she was level with the red hoop. As she flew through the red hoop, it began moving. Alyssa quickly leaned left, pointing the broomstick towards the left and flew safely flew through the hoop before it started moving back the other way.

Now for the orange hoop. It was a little higher than the first hoop, and more to her left, so Alyssa leaned a little to the left and leaned forward on her broom while pulling up on the broom handle. The broom immediately starting rising and once Alyssa was near the orange hoop, she focussed on the center of the hoop, gauging its movement and when she had the timing right, she maneuvered her broomstic and flew from underneath the hoop and out through the top of it as she continued to point her broom handle up. She had now cleared the 2nd hoop.

Sarah had been going so fast upwards that after a mere moment or two she was already very above the blue hoop. She needed to change direction and fast.. although, perhaps she should go up higher to see if the school had an invisible net or buffer zone over the pitch. Nah, al;though the teacher had not prohibited it, neither did she say that she permitted it, and besides, Sarah needed to continue on with the hoops, as a quick look over her shoulder revealed that the line waiting to go through the hoops .. and that the broom had turned around along with her head. Sarah scrambled back into action, turning the broom in the right direction as well as making the broom face downwards. This time she sped up, she did not want the others to wait longer then they had to. Soon she had reached the purple hoop, the final loop of the course and immidiatey she thought – NESSIE!!!! Nessie’s favourite colour was purple, was it not?

Now that she had finished her activity she gave the next one in a line a thumbs up as she headed towards the center of the pitch. Her chocolate eyes began to search for the familiar ginger that looked at home on the broom. “Nessie,” said Sarah, “did you see the colour of the last hoop? Do you approve?” Sarah smiled even brighter. "Sorry,I just had to let you know, yet as I flew through that last hoop I thought of you"

Now for the third, the yellow hoop which was positioned at least twice the height of the orange hoop. Alyssa leaned to the right while pointing her broom handle in the same direction. As she headed towards the yellow, she continued to lean forward while pulling her broom handle upwards, as she needed to flying above the the yellow hoop in order to navigate herself over, through and under it.

Once Alyssa had reached the desired height, she hovered above the yellow hoop. She waited and studied the movement of the hoop...left...right....left....right...and once she got the timing down, she leaned forward on her broom and pointing her broom handle downwards, she flew towards the center of the hoop. Just as she was about to fly through it, the hoop suddenly shifted to the left.

Alyssa quickly compensated for the sudden shift by leaning to the left as she descended, making sure that her handle was also pointing in the same direction. She flew quickly through the hoop just as it began shifting back in the opposite direction. Once she was successfully through the yellow hoop, Alyssa slowly leaned back and gently pulled back on the handle, slowly down her speed and her descent until the broom straightened out and hovered at least 10 feet off the ground.

Alyssa studied the green hoop. It was floating at least 15 feet above the ground. Alyssa decided that she would approach the hoop from below and fly through it and end up above it. Leaning to the left, and pointing her broom handle in the same direction, she made her way to the hoop. As she neared the hoop, she pulled back slowly on the broom handle until she was hovering underneath the hoop. This hoop seemed to be moving a little faster than the others.

'Looks like I'm going to have to be prepared to make a quick shift if the hoop suddenly moves when I'm flying through it.' Alyssa thought to herself. Taking her time, Alyssa did like she had done with the others, she studied the timing and speed of the hoop's movements. Left...right...left...right....and when she felt the timing was right, Alyssa pointed leaned forward on her broom and pointing the handle upwards, she zoomed toward the center of the hoop.

Noticing that as she approached, that the hoop began moving faster, Alyssa leaned quickly to the left to avoid hitting the right side of the broom and then quickly to the right to avoid it's left side as she flew right through and up over the hoop. She looked down and noticed that the hoop had slowed down its movement again.

'Hmmm..tricky little hoop. I wonder whether the Professor had charmed it to pick up speed when it sensed the presence of someone flying through it.' Alyssa thought to herself as she leaned to the right, pointing her broom in the direction of the blue hoop.

Sierra glanced at this professor with a look that said she was clearly impressed with this lesson. Sure, Vindictus had some pretty fun lessons, too, but Sierra was loving these drills! After this, she figured she'd go into try-outs, and then one day the pro league, much better prepared. She steered her broom around and joined the line of people waiting to tackle the hoops.

She watched the hoops up ahead. They actually looked easier than the poles, but that might be just because flying through a circle seemed easier than not touching a pole. When Sierra reached the front of the line, she was pumped and ready to go! She leaned down on her broom, quickly deciding that starting out slowly and then working her way up would be best.

WHOA. Wait. The hoops were moving side to side?! Why hadn't she seen that before? Sierra pulled back on her broom, realizing she had to go in a completely different direction. It was too late, though. She flew right into the first hoop. THE FIRST HOOP! Merlin, how humiliating! Trying not to look her classmates in the eye, Sierra turned around and re-joined the line.

Also, the Professor got a wave and a smile. Yeah, nothing to see here, we're taking care of each other, like Hogwartians do.

Honestly, though, Alec was already flying and stuff, he was doing fiiiine, her broom did nothing to him. And he'd taken part in an experiment too! See, the Professor didn't need to worry, nor keeping an eye on them. She wasn't going to try and knock him out of his broom, either, because she might fall too, and Lottie didn't want to see herself on the ground, thank you.

An activity, eh?

This was going to be a first. While it was true that Lottie had flown before, this would be the first time around the poles. Confidence, she remembered. She had plenty of that, no problem there.

Alec was looking towards her a lot, though. Partners, then? So as long as he DIDN'T chose her just to make sure she didn't fall, then it was alright. He was the best flyer anyway, better to keep him close or not, if there was racing involved.

One, two, it was her time around the poles! And the broom was not as responsive as it was before, but she managed to zoom around the poles, weaving in and out of them not like the experienced flyers, but good enough!, until she zoomed next to Alec, "First time," THIS was actually a question, she wanted to know if she'd done well or not.

You know what this means? Alec was officially cool. Not as cool as Spike, nope. Never.

Alec hovered in the air as he watched Lottie weaving in and out between the poles. A grin started to spread across his face as the girl zoomed up right next to him. First time? Holy Superman! "That was awesome! Erm... well done!" And the girl got another grin. But... was it her first time around the poles or was it her first time flying? ... He didn't know.

But again? Yeah?

The fourth year leant down on his broom and zoomed forwards. This time, he was going to go faster and beat his old record, whatever that was. This was... weird. Now that he was leaning down a little more, the poles seemed to be a lot... closer. And scarier. Or was it just him?

... It probably was just him.

Apart from a little close shave towards the end, Alec zoomed a little away from the poles, slightly happy with his performance. His eyes then found the figure that was Lottie and... he waited. OH OH OH! Thumbs up. The girl got that too.

Okay....maybe his last try had been a fail simply because he had been careless but this one was going to be good. Yeah...he had been careless and he knew it. He underestimated it pretty much as he was successful with the first try. A good flier always had to be careful and kept his eyes open, the last try proved it.

He waited his turn silently, getting more impatient this time. He was not planning to go any slower but he was going to be careful this time so this was going to be a win. When it was finally his turn again, he jumped on the school broom and flew up. He did not take the first pole so fast but as he carefully passed by them, he accelerated the broom. Smooth. It was going fine. He smirked with joy at the feeling of the fresh air on his face.

In a few moments, he was done and as far as he was aware of it, he did not touch a single pole and neither his broom did. Not that he noticed. So yeah, it was a win.

There's some good in this world and it's worth fighting for| LOTR|Whovian|Sherlock Fan

Alyssa flew towards the blue hoop noticing that it was hovering a lot higher than the others. Then she looked past it to the purple hoop which was definitely hovering at least twice lower than the blue one. Alyssa decided that for safety reasons, she would fly up, over, through and down the higher hoop and then when she had cleared that hoop, she would fly lower down and fly through the purple hoop from the bottom up.

She figured that it would be easier that way, since it would be easier to pull up from a higher height than to try to pull up immediately when the ground is quickly getting closer to you.

Decision made!!

Alyssa leaned forward on her broom pointing the handle upwards and immediately the broom started to fly upwards gaining height. Once she could see that she was flying higher than the blue hoop, Alyssa pointed her broom toward the blue hoop, leaning to the right as she did so. As soon as she was hovered above the blue hoop, she immediately pointed her broom handle downwards and zoomed her way through the hoop, quickly leaning left and then right to keep her broom from hitting the sides of the hoop as it moved. As she flew through the hoop and out underneath it, she looked back and saw that her broom twigs were about to hit the side of the hoop.

Quickly twisting to the side, she guided the broom handle to the left and the broom's twigs missed brushing against the side of the hoop by mere millimeters. Heaving a sigh of relief, Alyssa slowly leaned back on her broom while pulling back gently on the broom handle to slow its speed and descent.

She had one more hoop to clear. The purple hoop. Approaching the hoop from below it, Alyssa looked up and with out any hesitation, she pointed the handle of her broom up while leaning forwards and closer on the broom handle. The broom immediately began to rise and fly faster. Just as the hoop began moving to the right, Alyssa leaned a little to the right, guiding the broom to move in the same direction as the hoop even as she continued to fly through it.

She flew up and open and once she reached a reasonable height, Alyssa leaned back, and started slowing down her broom by gently pulling back on the broom handle. Once she had straightened out the broom, Alyssa hovered above the hoops and heaved a sigh of relief. She had made through the hoops without any mishap. However, she knew that she had also taken her time doing it.

She knew that when it came to Quidditch and especially a bludger, she had to move quicker than that, so Alyssa decided that she would attempt the course again, only this time she would navigate the course a little faster.

She saw others flying around and smiled, yes this was fun. Moving around, Minerva decided to do a few zigzags and practice some of the moves she would need to play her favorite position. That meant she needed to start and stop quickly, maybe even come up at people faster then normal. Looking around she didn't want to get to close to anyone that would freak out or spoke them. Seeing who she could use she leaned down and zoomed close, pulling up on her broom just as she was close enough that it might look like she would run into him.

Laughing a bit she shook her head, "Sorry, just was practicing for the upcoming tryouts. Had to have someone to fly close to like I was going after a bludger." Minerva smiled, "How are you doing up here?"
Readying himself at the start, Ethan watched as the flyers in front of him complete the pole weaving until it was his turn. The last time was more of a practice so he could get a good feel for this school broom. This time he needed to complete the course for real.

When it was his turn, the sixth year leaned forward on his broom and accelerated ahead. He was able to navigate the first few poles with no incident, so he thought he'd try a little faster. Remembering how unsuccessful that was the last attempt, Ethan leaned forward just slightly to increase his speed.. moving faster, then a little faster still, zigzagging and weaving through all the poles until he reached the end. Pleased that he had not brushed any of the poles this time, the boy fist-pumped the air and headed back around, wondering what he should do next.

Ethan took a wide berth around the poles, flying more towards the center of the pitch to head back to the start. He was a bit preoccupied with how to make things a bit more interesting when his eyes wandered over to the others flying there. His eyes fell on a particular blonde girl and he smiled as he hovered in air, watching her for a moment. She was a good flier, a shoo-in for Quidditch.. And she must have spotted him too since she was headed towards him.

Wait, straight for him.. the boy's eyes widened slightly to see how fast Minerva was flying at him, then he grinned. A game of chicken perhaps? He stayed in his spot, unblinking eyes trained on her as she quickly approached, waiting to see if she would turn away first. At least she stopped before running into him and he smiled widely at her, chuckling at her words. "Well, thanks for not crashing into me.. Glad I could help you practice a bit." He glanced over at the poles and had an idea. Turning back to Minerva, he said, "Do you want to race? Might be good practice in maneuverability.." And that would certainly be helpful with Quidditch practice.

Alex had made it all the way to the blue hoop before he accidentally hit it with his shoulder. He'd been going too fast and hadn't realized until he felt the hoop hit his arm. GAHHHH. darn, he'd been doing so good!

He turned around and went back to the back of the line, waiting for his turn again. He finally got to the front of the line again and began the process once more. He went a bit slower this time, so he didn't run into the hoops again. It was easier going slow and he had to stop himself from going superrrr fast like he wanted to. What could he say? He was a dude. Dudes liked SPEED.

He ascended and moved through the red hoop with ease, then descended to get the orange hoop. If only he had gotten through all the hoops the first time, then he could just fly around and do whatever he wanted.

Minerva smiled and looked at the poles. A race.. this could be fun. She professor J say about another activity, which she would try, but she couldn't turn down a challenge of a race, especially from her boyfriend. She didn't care who won, but it would be fun either way. Grinning from ear to ear she shook her head. "A race... Your on.." Minerva turned to face the poles and leaned headed towards them to get in line.

Once in line she smiled towards him, "I love this class, it's so nice to be back on a broom. Let's come after classes so I can get some practice on my new broom. I have tryouts in the next few days." She was getting nervous about her tryouts. There were so many great players on the puff team, but she did have announcing so she wasn't to worried. Then it was their turn. She smiled, "Ready??"

Dani's Citrus Duck Spawn | Mama Giraffe | Lemon PATch | Pushed the Red Button

Moving obstacles? Alice was READY for this. After completing her victory lap, because she did one of those, she immediately gravitated toward the hoops. Red first, right? And then orange and then.. something and something. Hmm, whatever, she would just follow the others. Adjusting her grip on the broom, she waited behind the others for her turn. It wouldn't be too hard, would it? It was just like maneuvering around players in a game, kind of. The similarity made her feel more eager, and soon she was bouncing with excitement.

HER TURN.

It wasn't too difficult to go through the first hoop. Alice just put a little more pressure on her broom habdle, tipping downwards slightly. She jerked up a little too quickly, though, and narrowly avoided brushing the hoop with her tail twigs. Those THINGS kept getting in the way.. she'd have to trim them later. But the fourth year moved a little higher and managed to go through the orange one with ease, despite those darn tail twigs. Mmhmm. They definitely needed to be clipped.

Yellow next, wasn't it?

Alex descended to make it through the green hoop with ease, and then he glanced up to see the blue hoop again. Aha. His nemesis. He slowed down quiet a bit and ascended, making sure he didn't go too high like the last time. Now that his bruise had time to develop since he hit the hoop, he realized that it had HURT. What were those hoops made of? Pure diamond? OUCH! He needed an icepack!

He gripped his broom tighter and...WHOOSH! He successfully went straight through the hoop. Success! Now for the rest of them...after overcoming his fear of running in to the blue hoop, the rest seemed like a breeze. Within a few minutes, he'd completely finished the task. Success! Now he could just chill and fly around, taking in the beautiful fall day and maybe watching some people crash in to the poles or hoops...

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

For a moment the 12 year old saw her life flash before her eyes. She began nudging her broom down in an effort to fly lower than the girl and sighed in relief when she saw that she was pulling up. Good. There would be no getting hurt and being sent to the healer or anything.

Lex grinned when she saw that the girl had knocked a pole and had to start over. This time she wouldn't have a chance and in fact she didn't...or well...she wouldn't have if the Professor hadn't gone and blown her whistle just as she had made her way closer to the end. Quite reluctantly she brought her broom to a stop and turned her attention to her.

New activity? Oooo! Where???

She spun around on her broom and looked across the field to a bunch of hoops, moving hoops. NEAT.

Alexa leaned forward on her broom and quickly made her way over to the already forming line. From where she hovered she couldn't see much so it wasn't until she'd gotten to the front that she saw something else. The hoops were moving!!! Coooooool!

She couldn't wait to give it a go. The eager second year leaned forward on her broom again and speed towards the moving hoops. This shouldn't be too hard. As she approached the red one she had to dive a bit because she'd been hovering too high. Just as she was about to zip through the thing did a shift that made her swerve so suddenly that she nearly lost her grip. By some miracle she got through the hoop and simply hovered while staring back at it. That was a close one! The sharp swerve could've killed her!!!!

There's some good in this world and it's worth fighting for| LOTR|Whovian|Sherlock Fan

As Alyssa waited her turn in line, she planned her strategy. Remembering the heights of each of the hoops now, she planned how approach would be for each of the hoops. The red hoop was the hovering at the lowest height, so she would approach it from underneath it and fly up and through it. While she was ascending, she would make her way to the orange hoop and fly through that from the same direction, underneath up and over.

Since the yellow hoop was higher than then the 2 before, Alyssa would continue to climb until she wasflying above the hoop and for this hoop she would fly downwards through the center and end up underneath the hoop. From there, she would start her descent as she headed towards the green hoop. Once she was flying below it, she would fly up, over and through it. Then as she headed towards the blue hoop, she would continue to climb until she got high enough above the blue one, and she would fly downwards, through the center and end up underneath it. Then she would start descending as she made her way to the purple hoop. Once she was low enough, she would fly up through the center of the hoop from below and end up at the top. Mission Accomplished, Alyssa smiled to herself.

When it was her turn, Alyssa quickly leaned forward on her broom, pointing her broom handle downwards until the broom was flying just 8 feet off the ground, She could almost feel her toes brushing the grass as she headed towards the red hoop. Once she was underneath it, she pointed the handle of the broom upwards, leaned forward and fly straight through the center of the hoop. No problems there.

While continuing to slowly ascend, Alyssa leaned towards the left and guided her broom towards the left as she headed for the orange hoop. Once she was under the hoop, without hesitation, she pointed her handle upwards and leaning forward and closer towards the broom handle, Alyssa quickly flew through the orange hoop, barely missing brushing the side of the hoop as it moved towards her. However, she managed to fly through the hoop without it touching her or her broom.

She continued to climb higher as she leaned towards the left and pointed the broom handle in the same direction. They were now going to navigate through the yellow hoop. As she neared the hoop, she pulled back on her broom handle, straightening it out. Then Alyssa leaned forward as close to the broom handle as possible and flew straight downwards heading for the center of the hoop. As she neared the hoop, she noticed that it began shifting to the right. Leaning to the right, while maneuvering the broom to move in the same direction as the hoop was moving, Alyssa flew through the center of the hoop and once she thought that she had cleared the hoop, she leaned back and gently pulled back on the broom stick to slow down her descent.

BAD MISTAKE!!. She hadn't checked to see whether her broom twigs had cleared the hoop and she felt a bump. Looking up, she saw that hoop had hit end part of the broom twigs.

Alyssa sighed. Back to the starting line again. She turned her broom around and made her way back to the end of the line.

But again?

BEAM.

Or...not so much BEAM, really. It was flying, after all, and there were tons of things one could accomplish that were worth a lot more. Like getting even at Scabior or making Airey lose it by putting things out of place. Fun, they were.

Still, Alec was cool and he thought she'd done great. All was good in the world.

MORE POLES!

Or...rather...her turn to go through them again.

Lottie tried to go faster this time, and ALMOST hit one of the poles. She still needed to gain more control over her broom, or the broom needed to listen to her more, actually.

Go for it, Seeker boy, break your record. She hovered in the air, as she waited for Alec again.

Taking the school broom with himself, of course, Richard walked to the other side of the pitch where the professor indicated that second activity was going to take place. From the way the professor explained it, it sounded much more fun than the first one to the Slytherin boy. Yeah. And it seemed to be more challenging as the hoops moved and they were either up high or...not. He grinned...this was going to be fun.

Resting the broom on his right shoulder, Rich took his place in the line and waited watching the others fly and play as he did so. They were not bad. He was more than sure that he could do better than that last one. Still smirking, he mounted his school broom and took off with a kick to the ground. So red hoop first. He did not go fast to start with this. He needed to warm up, of course and be even more careful with this one. His smirk widened when he successfully flew through the red one. Then he ascended and eyed the orange one. It was....hey...now he had to fast or he was going to miss it just when it was in front of him. He flew faster and was going through it then...

...gah!

He felt the twigs of the broom brush the hoop.

Fail...

His smirk vanishing, he went back to the line.

Belle heard the professor's instructions. She had to do the turning aspect of the broom. That should not be too hard...She had done at home plenty of times before when practicing with her cousins. Belle said, "Up!" and got the broom in her hand, then she put her leg over it and kicked off. She was up in the air finally. She was feeling the breeze in her hair. She was feeling so much adrenaline pumping in her veins. She was excited!

Belle then came to the poles. It looked easy but that was easier said than done. Belle then used her Quidditch Smarts. She leaned forward to go a normal speed. Then she went through one pole and tilted her broom a little towards the right and made it through! She had a couple more to go but this was just the start.

There were still more poles to go through....This was going to be so much fun!
