The Divination classroom was as bright and cheerful as usual, the heavy curtains were pulled back and the panes were pushed open to allow a fresh breeze to flow in. The desks were arranged normally on their risers and small wooden boxes were places on each of them, enough per student.
At the front of the classroom, Professor Elwood sat in a high backed armchair with a small, spindly table to her left; her usual desk was no where to be seen. You may have noticed the Professor being absent from the Staff Table in the Great Hall for a while but she is here now and ready to teach.
The board behind her informed everyone not to pay any mind to the small boxes as they filed in.

Do a tarot reading on themselves? Okay, that sounded like fun. Not that she really believed in all this stuff. But she could admit that she had sometimes wondered about this. So, with that in mind she gathered her cards again and shuffled, this time placing them in a pile up and to the side of where she was going to lay her drawn cards out. Then, she drew three cards one by one, placing them beside each other as Professor Elwood had shown them.
Once that was done, she turned over the card that was in the past position. Wheel of Fortune. She was reminded of an old game show for a moment, before leafing through her textbook for the meaning. Abundance, happiness, elevation or luck; a change that just happens to bring with it great joy. So, that was good. What would that change be? Not that she believed in this tarot stuff.......

Queen of Wands.
His face crumpled very briefly before Mo leaned waaaaay out and tapped Alice on the top of her hand. Flashing the card at her, he informed her very solemnly, "My cards say we should be partners. See? This is your card right here."
Apparently, they were performing tarot readings. And apparently, Alice already had a partner. "I like that card, so we can work together," she replied just as earnestly before turning back to her deck.
Anyways. Alice spread her deck out across the table facing down and ran her fingertips across the cards until she reached one she liked and overturned it. Was that good? She flipped through her textbook for an interpretation before placing the card in front of Mo in the past position. "The Chariot," she announced, "is supposed to assure you success, but you also ought to remember that winning isn't everything and all." Her eyes scanned the texts more before she continued. "It shows a strong will, a strong personality, and sometimes victory. And its kind of like the start of stuff." Was it a good card, then?

Okay, so Sky was feeling a little more optimistic about this whole venture after her first card. After all, there was nothing bad about it. She turned over her next card with her textbook ready. Ace of Pentacles. This one scared her a bit. More than a bit, actually. She gasped outloud. She had seen these things in a lot of the more freaky and weird scary movies. The ones that were more 'gore' than 'scare'. So, it was to be expected that she was trembling when she flipped through her textbook this time.
New luck, health, or work for new prosperity. A desire to just become. What the....? Her family was already prosperous, so.....
Okay, this card scared her a bit.

As Alyssa listened to Professor Elwood explain to everyone about the Rider-Waite Tarot cards and what each card represented, she quickly picked up her quill and took down notes….and there was a lot of information. Whether they made sense or not, she decided that she would figure that out later when she reviewed them again.

Once she finished writing, she looked up just in time to hear Professor Elwood say that they had to do their own reading. 'The past, present and future? That sounds like the Three Event Spread that the Professor is talking about.' Alyssa thought to herself. Picking up the pack of cards, Alyssa replaced the Major Arcana cards into her pack before she began shuffling them over and over again.
Then she spread the cards out in her hands before pulling the first one which she placed in the first position representing the Past. It was the Devil card only it was upside down.
Alyssa immediately felt a sense of dread. Pulling this card couldn’t mean anything good but she swallowed down her fear remembering that this card represented an important element of the mind, history and the past and history. So whatever it meant, it had already happened.
Thumbing through the pages of her Divination Textbook Alyssa found the page that she was looking for.
Remembering that this card was about her past, she tried to apply what she read to what had already happened.
Alyssa tried to apply what had happened in her past with what she was reading on the page. Contrary to what she believed, a reversed Devil card in the past position was actually good news. It represented that the chains that had held her back, and had prevented her from developing as a person, had been broken. The card represented liberation from fear, weakness and indecision through communication with one's inner voice.
When Alyssa applied it to what had happened in her past, she found that this card held true for her. During her time away from Hogwarts, Alyssa had realized that through her own making, she had set the bar too high, in terms of her expectations and future. Not being able to achieve her initial goals had made her unhappy and totally stressed.
But during her time home and back at Salem's Institute, Alyssa realized that things had to change. That she needed to lower the bar and make changes in what she expected out of her life. The moment she did that, she felt a sense of relief and was much more happier.
'Okay the first card wasn't too bad, now let's see what the second card represents for me.' Alyssa thought to herself as she reached out to pull the next card.

Minerva listened to the direction of the assignment, oh this sounded like fun. She took notes on her parchment so that she wouldn't miss any of the information then she looked around. She thought it would be fun to do Ethan's, but wasn't sure if he would want to work with her.
Just as she was going to turn to talk to him, he asked her first. Smiling she shook her head, "Of course.. I would love for you to do my reading as long as I can do yours next."

"It shows a strong will, a strong personality, and sometimes victory. And its kind of like the start of stuff." Was it a good card, then?
Mo smiled very faintly and studied Alice's hands as she spread out the cards and picked his first one. They were capable hands, and she didn't hesitate at all as she picked a card and flipped it for him. The Chariot? He wondered why that card in particular was picked to represent his past. A strong will and strong personality didn't seem like they described Mo, but maybe it would take them a while to understand how to do this. Alice was the strong one, so maybe the card represented her.
"Thanks," he finally offered, although he only sort of flickered a glance in her direction before flipping the top card of his deck on the desk in front of her. "Four of Wands." He turned to his book and paged over to the paragraphs about that particular card. Not the Queen of Wands? That seemed criminal. "So this is your past card, right? I think it's telling us that you're standing on a strong foundation. You're not completed yet, obviously, but you've come through some first phase in your life successfully. Maybe it means your whole life, or maybe it's talking about some particular task. I'm not sure. You should celebrate your accomplishments and who you have become, but I don't think it means that you're all set. I guess you're lucky you have such a strong foundation to build from."
He pushed the card closer to her with a fingertip before retreating back to his side of the desk. "Your turn."

Ethan grinned a bit. This might be fun. "Great.." he said, "and of course you can do mine too.." Ethan shuffled his cards.. you were supposed to shuffle them, right? He wasn't completely sure, but it sounded good to him. Then he cut the deck and drew the first card.
"The Six of Wands," he said, showing Minerva her card before setting it down face-up on the table. Then he looked for that card in his textbook to find its meaning. "So this is meant to pertain to your past.. your mind and your history." Right.. there it was. Ethan skimmed over the passage before coming to a conclusion.
Smiling, he said, "Well, this seems like a pretty good card. It represents victory and reward." He read a bit further. "It does say that if this card is in the past position, then the foundation of your current situation is in the triumphs from some time ago.." Thinking for a moment, he frowned a bit. "I don't know if that means that you think things today are not as good as things once were.. or maybe that you are where you are today because of good things that happened in the past.." These things always seemed so open to interpretation..

After finishing up with the first card, Ella took the deck and chose another card at random. She then focused her attention on her text book.
Five of Wands.
The Five of Wands card was placed in the center where it would represent the present. This particular card had to do with competition and battling your inner doubts and fears. Funny, Ella had quite a lot of those. The advice that someone who pulls this card was meant to give was for the person to be bold and to not be afraid. That was…advice that the blonde wasn't sure she could take. If there was one thing Ella Bishop wasn't, it was bold. She tended to be on the meek side, well except during Quidditch. Hmmm. Maybe this could be applied to Quidditch? She did have a match coming up. Perhaps she was meant to go all out in order to beat the competition? Huh. That seemed like a really good interpretation, actually. She was definitely going to go with that.

"Four of Wands," Alice repeated, watching his face closely. She nodded along to everything he said and took it all in without considering whether it was applicable or not, on account of it didn't really matter either way. Because it was the past, yeah? The next two he drew would be more important anyway, she supposed. So instead, she just focused more on him, because that seemed like a better option anyway.
Her turn. She slid her card over into the past position before choosing another from her deck and overturning it. "Three of Swords." Alice flipped through the textbook until she found the interpretation of the card and scanned it as quickly as possible. "Your present card. It's supposed to mean.. some kind of secret has come out." Her eyes flickered back over to him for a second, a frown appearing on her face as she tried to decipher the meaning. "Some hurtful, cutting truth is going to hit you. And it's going to help you move on. Or something."
And then she pushed the card over to Mo silently. His turn now?

Mo winced visibly at her words, and then again, and then a third time... 'cause there there three swords, so why not three jabs right to his innards. Was she doing that on purpose? Trying to communicate something specific to him? What was it, then? Move on.
He pursed his lips a bit as he drew down the card she'd drawn next to his past card, and then he flipped her next card. Perhaps a bit more forcefully than he'd intended, but it wasn't as if he threw the thing at her. "Ten of Pentacles in reverse." He eyed the book for a moment, looking for key words and ideas. "The Ten of Pentacles is supposed to be this great card of completion and success, like... you have everything you wanted and you're putting it to good use for the future and to help other people. But in reverse, it means that something is blocking you from having everything you want. You're being held back, maybe by you or maybe by some outside force. Or it could be that fear is keeping you from moving forward. Whatever it is, you're blocked right now. So that sucks."
No, it did suck. Mo immediately softened, reaching out to touch the card again and lightly slide it over next to her past card. He wouldn't wish blockage on anyone, especially not Alice. "Bet I'm reading that one wrong. I think it really means you're going to get 10 bags of jelly slugs in the mail tomorrow."

Alyssa drew the next card from the spread. It was the Six of Wands. This time is was upright. Alyssa placed it in the middle, to the right of her first card. She knew that the middle card represented a deciding element of her present.
She flipped the pages in her book until she found the page describing what the Six of Wands meant. 'Hmmm... It says complete victory is at hand. A sense of honor and satisfaction at the resolution of a matter or over a great struggle. Jubilation at the hearing of good news.'
Reflecting on the here and now, Alyssa realized that, to her, the card meant that she was now reaping the rewards of the changes she had made. She had a boyfriend and things were going well in school and on the Quidditch pitch. She didn't think that victory at hand literally meant what is said....like her team winning their final Quidditch game against Ravenclaw, although that would definitely be nice. No, from what she had read in her textbook, her victory was actually a one-person victory. Her victory was overcoming the obstacles that had almost prevented her from successfully making those changes in her life. Even though it had been very hard for her, she was now benefitting from it and living a more harmonious life.
As for the jubilation at the hearing of good news, she wondered whether it had something to do with the letter that had arrived via snail mail and was now waiting for her at home. Alyssa shrugged her shoulders. She would find out soon enough.

Alright, one more card and Ella bit her lip, knowing this card would be in the future position. What if she drew a really bad one? One that meant she was like…doomed to fail or something? Meep! This was kind of scary, yeah? …Yeah. Eyeing the deck a little reluctantly, the blonde chose the last card.
Two of Cups.
This is the last card Ella picked and the one she placed on the right. The blonde then scanned her text book and raised her eyebrows a little. Hmmm. Apparently this card had to do with a connection with someone or something. It could be a person you love, a friend, or somebody that might share the same thoughts you do. Okay, that didn't sound so bad. So maybe in the future Ella would find a person or thing she felt very strongly about? Like maybe…a job or erm…someone she might marry? GULP. She wasn't so sure about that part. Oh, it’s also about making a choice about whether or not to pursue this person or thing? So…in the future Ella would be faced with a big choice like this? That was…interesting. The badger bit her lip and scribbled a few more notes before dropping her quill.
This reading cards stuff made her wonder how accurate readings tended to be. And if you weren't sure you believe that readings could come true, did that make a difference? She had a lot of questions, to be honest.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
"Time for the next card,'' Jory said as he reshuffled the deck. Randomly, he pulled the card furthest to the left. "Ace of Swords...Ace of swords...'' A quick scan of the book and he found the meaning.
''This usually indicates that the person's mind is feeling sharper, clearer. They want to talk, want to discuss or write.'' The Puffer's mind was definitely sharper and clearer during the last few days. He was very much thinking about his career options. They were running through his head every moment his brain was free. The benefits, the costs and the usual questions one asked when looking for the right job. He certainly knew in which direction he wanted to go. A job that involved putting bad guys away. A detective like his dad? An Auror? There was so much to think about.

Why.. why was Mo wincing? Was it the card? Had she said something? Alice stared at him blankly and opened her mouth to ask, but he had already pulled another card and started talking. So she just threaded his fingers together with her own and gave his hand a little squeeze instead. Wasn't that what people did when other people were sad? Or something?
"I bet you DID read it right. S'okay, though. Maybe we'll both get very lovely future cards to make up for our awful present ones," she stated as she plucked another card out of the deck with her hand that wasn't still in Mo's. On account of she didn't feel like letting go of it just yet. "You get the Sun." A smile appeared on her face as her eyes drifted across the page, landing on the interpretation of his card. "Everything's going to clear up and fall into place and go your way. 'Course, there's the possibility you might get sunburned.. what with being too optimistic or too logical. But for the most part, you'll be okay."
So he'd end up with a good fortune after all, then. Alice carefully slid the last card into place beside the other two. "And you're done."

....and now for the third and final card.
Alyssa drew it out from the spread and looked at it. It was the Ace of Swords facing upright. Being the third card drawn, Alyssa knew that the Ace of Swords represented a very important part of her future.
So Alyssa looked through her book until she found the page that described what her card meant for her in that position. According to her book, if there ever was a position that the Ace of Swords should be, the future position was the best place.
'Hmmm...This is a beacon of coming courage that will strengthen your resolve to get to the heart of the matter. Of course, the downside to this may be that your present life is actually not in synch with reality and the longer you wait to deal with issues of the present in order to move toward your future, the longer it will be until you have a clear indication of what is really going on with the life you have built for yourself.' Alyssa read silently to herself before sitting back in her chair.
Alyssa pondered on what she had read before realizing that the description meant for her. It meant that she had more challenges to face up ahead. That she still had issues she needed to straighten out immediately before she could eventually reap the rewards of the changes she had already made.
Alyssa sighed. Maybe it was a good thing that she had drawn this card. At least she knew now what she needed to do. She just needed to figure out what still needed changing. Maybe it was her career ambitions. Alyssa decided that whatever she needed to do could wait until after class was over.

"Good job everyone, as you can see after just dealing with the Major Arcana cards there is a lot of memorization work tied into Cartomancy. For now since you all are beginners you are going to be allowed to use your textbooks."
Professor Elwood picked up the Empress card herself and held it up for them all to see. "Before we move on to the other two groups of cards I want to explain something important about ALL of the cards in this tarot deck that Miss Potter hinted on in her card report." She gestured at the Hufflepuff before pointing her ringed finger at the card. "When a reader or the person being given the reading draws this card, the Empress, they will be shown the nourishment and sustaining powers they have with others. But if it is drawn this way," The professor flipped the card upside down so that the woman on the throne had her head at the bottom of the frame, "You get the opposite meaning. You will be characterized as having a malnutrition attitude to your careless raising of others." Yeah, so obviously not so good as the original meaning.
"So now that we have been introduced to the Major Arcana cards, let's talk about the Minor Arcanas. As I and some of your classmates have mentioned at the beginning of class today, there are suits to tarot cards much like regular muggle playing cards. The Minor Arcanas of this particular deck of tarot cards don't have the elaborate pictures that the Major Aracana do but instead have a number of small pictures that is the same as the number give to the card. For example, three red hearts on a number three card."
"However Tarot Cards have different suits than regular playing cards? Can anyone tell me one or even all of them? You may use your textbook."
OOC: Hey guys, when I say you can use the textbook it typically means it's up for you all to research the information on the internet. Sometimes I link you to sites that I want you to use, but because Tarot Cards are so widely used, I trust the information you find will be rather close to my own. Once the lesson is over I will be creating a 'chapter in the Divination Textbook' for you all to use for OWLs/NEWTs in the Divination Classroom Forum.
Well, everyone had already answered the question...So, Dylan settled back in his seat, surveying the room. He more so focused on West and what he was talking about. Identifying the suits with the houses? Hmm, that was very interesting...indeed.
In fact, he probably needed to write this all down...
Sighing, the Slytherin reached down into his bag and pulled his notebook. He'd forgotten about taking notes earlier...due to the excitement about the actual cards....And then Myrtle terrorizing his peers. That girl...It was so obvious that she'd been a Ravenclaw. Merlin, she was insane just like the ones he knew...
So, yea...

She was going to move on after she addressed some rather interesting thoughts pressed forth by a certain young pair of a Lion and a Snake.
While the other students had been telling her what the suits were it was odd but Alexa Cambridge had been quiet, her nose in her textbook. This was definitely a strange but nice sight (Come to mention it, Myrtle was being rather quiet too).
But her reading was not pretending, nope. She gave a decent bit of information. "Thank you Miss Cambridge. That is correct, oftentimes we tend to ignore Muggle means of things as witches and wizards but there are some fortune tellers in the Muggle world who practice Cartomancy without these decorative or elaborate cards but instead use the decks of fifty-two with the diamonds, spades, clovers, and hearts."
She smiled at the girl before adding. "Five points to Gryffindor for Miss Cambridge's thinking of others besides ourselves."
Huh. She had never really thought of it that way before.
"Interesting Mr. Odessa," It seemed that he had gotten over his obsession with 'Westomancy' long enough to participate in today's lesson? "Having not attended Hogwarts myself, I never really made that connection but I can see how whatever text you read that in made that connection." She turned to the board and wrote with chalk rather than her wand in her excitement.
When she was finished writing this down she turned to West and the rest of the class. "Now assuming I didn't botch your all's house values, as set down by their founders, the Sorting Hat, and Hogwarts, A History, I see what Mr. Odessa is saying about the possible connection between each house and a Tarot card suit. The characteristics I've written on the board are ones that coincide with the ones of your houses AND each tarot suit." It was so awesome when things out of textbooks connected with things in the students' everyday life.
"Five points to Slytherin for Mr. Odessa's extra studies and bringing that to us to look into today." Very good indeed.
More on the suits of the Minor Arcana. "Despite the Hogwarts houses being connected to the Tarot suits the Rider-Waite deck has each suit connected to one of the four elements. Which, coincidentally, now that I think about it, also match up with your Houses according to some literature." Continuing. "Wands are representative of Fire and are for adventurers, ambition and passion. Pentacles represent Earth and talk of relationships, things of physical nature, money, and health. A lot of information to throw at them all at once but it was all in their textbooks if they hadn't taken it down in notes. They WOULD need it for their homework though so hopefully they got at least most of it. "Now, before me move on I am going to quickly explain the basics of the Court Cards. These cards are pictorially representative much like the Major Arcana cards but there are only four different Court figures: the Page, the Knight, the Queen, and the King. There are going to be four of each of these figures in the deck, one for each of the four suits." Elwood paused to let that sink in.
"Some quick tips for reading Court cards when they come up in a spread. Almost always they represent a person in the reader's life, and although gender doesn't always matter, it usually does (Women are the queens, others are male). Each member of the Court stands for some symbolic meaning." She went back to the board to lay it out for them:
"And lastly, a tip for when you draw Court cards, you can use the Zodiac sign that correlates with the element of the suit and use the attributes of it to make your reading of that particular card. (Oftentimes: Cups - Scorpio, Cancer, Picses; Pentacles - Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn ; Swords - Gemini, Libra, Aquarius; Wands - Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)."
And that was her script for the day. "Now if any of you have questions before we begin now's the time. If not we are going to start our first reading called the three-card reading." She flicked her wand at the already crowded board to draw a diagram.
"As you can see there are a few different types of readings to do with this spread but for fun we will start with the Past, Present, Future one. For this you can either work with a partner and each do a reading on each other or on your own by drawing for yourself. Go ahead and get started. You will need to draw each card individually and then palce them in the correct format. Please divine the meaning of each card to the reader before going on to the next one. We will only be using three cards, one per period of time (past, present, and future)." Callie turned to walk around the room as they worked, ready to help and answer questions as needed.
OOC: I know this is A LOT of info but just take your time and read through it, it's not as hard as it seems. Here is a site I think will help you out a bit. The cards you "draw" can be chosen at random or you can work with a partner to get whatever reading you want. No worry. You will have about 24-48 hours to work on this spread so take your time and have fun. I would like a post per card please so if you are working with a partner you will each need to post three times. Have fun and don't be afraid to ask questions!!
Before Dylan thought or did anything else...something had to be considered here. Professor Elwood was completely right. Slytherin was VERY much related and equaled to this Cups business. As a house, Slytherin was all about extremes...He was totally proof of that...
Ahem. The word bipolar had been used before...
And....Yes. This was a lot of information.
Allowing his hand to fly over the parchment, he glanced around the room. They could work in pairs, yes? Because if Dylan could do that, he wanted to work with Bee....This seemed like something that could be intimate and he just wasn't comfortable with anyone else knowing stuff about him. EVER. He had masks for a reason...
He finished with the notes and then smirked. Where was Beezy Weezy...?
Hmph. Oh. There.
Stepping over, Dylan tugged on her hair. "Babe, let's work together."

That was a lot of information right there. And Beezus, being the diligent (sort of) Ravenclaw that she is, had most sufficiently followed through what was shared to the class as she jotted down notes after notes on her parchment. To be honest, she found the whole stuff interesting and it wasn't just that, the elaboration and connection her peers had strung with the tarot suits was worth listening to. Professor Elwood was also doing a good job at associating the suits with the Houses, along with its relating attributes which the Ravenclaw found rather fitting. The more the people gathered around her supplemented their growing knowledge, the more curious she became in regards to how they were using the tarot deck for their reading today.
So when the Professor presented the diagram on the board, Beezus immediately cleaned her desk of anything except the cards. Her text and parchment laid on her lap.
She did hear that it was allowed that they work in pairs but as she was too eager to get started on the task, the brunette did not bother but if anyone would nudge to work with her then she wouldn't mind either.
So....Past, Present and Future, hmm?
Was it weird that this was making her nervous for some reason? Because it was and she needed to bite her bottom lip before taking the cards into her hands to shuffle them. Shuffle. Shuffle. She was thinking of doing a trial round first before doing the real reading. She could do that, right?

Hmph. Oh. There.
Stepping over, Dylan tugged on her hair. "Babe, let's work together."
Blowing breath, the Prefect cut the deck in two, riffled the cards and cut it again before she slowly turned the card that was on the uppermost of the deck's second half.
King of Cups.
It was a Court card which meant that it symbolized a person, well, close enough. And Cups? ...Slytherin? Beezus tilted her head slightly to the right and that was when she felt a tugging on her hair. Eh?
She turned her head to identify her assailant and saw that it was Dylan. Blink. Did she just.....saw him coming? Whoa. She did. Beezus returned the card face down together with the other ones on the deck as she nodded and scooted a bit to give the Slytherin Captain some space to sit on. "We're in class. Don't.....call me that." Because she it didn't sound proper, especially since they were student leaders. Oh, and I totally saw you coming. She also wanted to add.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Jory now pulled a card for the future from the right side of the deck- not the far right but a few cards away. The two of swords. He searched his textbook until he came across the meaning.
He frowned as he read. "Each child wants mom to take his/her side, but she'd decided to stay neutral and keep them likewise, which means that her solution is temporary. The fight between them hasn't been resolved, it's just been put on hold. Sooner or later, this truce will end.'' This was referring to, as he realised instantly, the misunderstanding he knew was about to happen between him and his sister, Grace. He always knew she was going to make a big deal out of it. She was jealous of him being a wizard and she hardly spoke to him now. She ignored him; it was unlike the times when they were younger and he seemed to be her idol. Though the situation had not escalated to the point of their mother being the peace keeper as yet, Jory had suspected that might happen as Grace had began complaining about him. Be it about the music he listened to or the books he read or his friends. It was just small thing but he knew they could lead up to bigger problems.
Jory sighed and thought sarcastically, "At least I'll have something good to look forward to over the summer.'' Well, at least he'd have his mom around to handle Grace.
tarot card, shmarot cards. It was all nonsense anyway. Sarah took her deck and began to examine each card. She had listened to what the professor said and as a result knew the muggle playing card equivalent of eac one.
She now looked at the suit, that in playing cards was diamond with newfound respects, it was the gryffindor suit after all, as her clever west had said (why he did background reading on a subject that was such rubbish was beyond her. Yet he was a sensible and clever boy, so he had a reason for it. She must ask him.) as she was very patriotic towards gryffindor and all. She then shuffled her deck

Mo paused thoughtfully as Alice took his hand. It was such a very friendly and comforting (and complicated) thing to do, and it did help him feel a bit better about the cards she'd just drawn for him. He squeezed her hand in return and listened quietly as she read his last card. The Sun? That was a good card to end on. Things were going to turn right in the end. It was always easiest to stick out your chin and deal with stuff when you knew it wouldn't last.
"I'm done," he repeated. "Thanks, Al. Alice. Your Highness." He quirked that crooked smile at her before squeezing her hand again and slipping his free. The better to turn over cards, obviously. Mo flipped over the next card, studied it, and placed it face up in front of Alice.
"Ace of Pentacles. This is a good one, according to the book. It means that in the future, the ideas you have and the work you put into something will be accomplished. It'll probably take hard work and planning, but you have straight up success in your cards. It also looks like you might need to try something new and get out of your comfort zone to get the things you want." He tapped the pentacle on the card and grinned. "So what is it you want to accomplish, Ace? You've got the approval right here.
Alec furrowed his eyebrows slightly as he listened to what the Professor was saying. There was a lot of information being given out and... he couldn't really register all of it. Bits and pieces did stick out to him, though, the bits that seemed to be the most important. His eyes flew to the board once it was mentioned and... he smiled slightly. Yeah... this was starting to make a bit more sense now. Just a bit. He bent his head slightly and started scribbling away as the Professor continued talking.
Scribble... scribble... scribble...
Zodiac signs... hey, his one was a Hufflepuff! GRIN.
Scribble... scribble... scribble...
Okay. Wait... what? His head snapped back up and he blinked at the Professor. Oh... they could partner up? And pick out cards and explain them to the person they were working with and then place it down in the past/present/future section? That was what she had said, right? Nodding to himself, Alec scribbled down the last little bits before placing his quill down and looking around the classroom. He needed a partner... someone who wouldn't mind working with someone who... well... someone like him.
... BELLE!
GRIN. "Belle!" he called to the older girl, waving his hand a bit at her, "Erm... do you want to partner up with me?" Unless she was going to go and partner up with someone else... How awkward would that be?
As Belle was looking for a partner, she heard a familiar voice calling her name. Belle turned around and she noticed Alec looking for a partner o.O. OH thank god! Belle was relieved. She was pairing with someone she knew. Belle smiled and said, "Oh yes! I would love to be your partner!"
Belle then sat down at one of the tables. Belle got out her cards and was beginning. "Alright so i will begin first." Belle smiled to Alec.

"So the moon means to look for development of latent psychic abilities. The Moon is intuition and imagination, but can also represent hidden messages and deception. Things are not always as they seem, so trust your instincts." Belle nodded and agreed with it.
"Alright Alec your turn to pick from the Major Arcana pile."

"Alright Alec your turn to pick from the Major Arcana pile."
GRIN. "Thanks Belle!" Really. Because... it would be better to work with someone on this rather than do it for yourself. It might be a bit more... interesting, actually. Nodnod. ... Oh? "Yeah! Of course!" Ladies first and all that, right?
Alec tilted his head and watched the girl curiously as she started picking out a card. All this randomness was necessary for Divination, right? Because... you couldn't purposely pick out one card and then avoid the others just because you like the look of one and not the others. Yeah. So... closing your eyes were good for this as well, right? Maybe.
...
The MOON! And this was linked to his past, right? Latent physical ability... did that mean Quidditch? Because... maybe... that explained quite a bit. Like how he didn't really know much about Quidditch but with the right training from Keefer, he turned out not to suck at it completely. Hidden messages and... deception? Alec furrowed his eyebrows slightly at those words. He had never been deceived, as far as he could tell. Unless... things to do with his mother counted but... that wasn't deception. Not to him.
Shaking his head, the fifteen year old grinned at the Prefect. "Thanks Belle!" ... Right... for her. Shuffle... shuffle... shuffle... He spread the cards out face down on the desk in a line before randomly picking out one from the middle. And this card was...
"The Wheel of Fortune!" GRIN. He leant closer towards the desk and scanned his textbook until his eyes landed on the paragraph explaining exactly what the card in his hand represented. "Erm... it says... that this is about luck and change," Maybe Belle had gotten really lucky as a kid and won a pot of gold and things turned dramatically? Who knew. "It says... something about the ride and fall of fortune and that what goes around comes around." That... made sense since they were talking about a wheel of fortune.
"Erm... and... basically, this card seems to be really awesome! Abundance, happiness, elevation... and it symbolises a change that happens and brings great joy with it as well." That wasn't a bad card at all!
... So... "I think... it's your turn again?" This was actually sort of fun! GRIN.

West was trying not to watch other people do their readings. And trying not to wonder at what they meant because he didn't even believe in this stuff anyways so there was no point in it. He also didn't trust anyone to do his reading so he went ahead and shuffled the cards himself and made a half-hearted lazy attempt at influencing the cards or whatever, by touching them and stuff. And focusing or whatever. And then he dealt three out. Not watching the cards, watching people. Friend people.
In theory.
West also just went ahead and turned all three cards over at once and started looking at the meanings in his book.

.........
.....
No. He didn't like those cards. West swept them up and dealt some more.

Five points? Sweeeeet. Who knew there'd eventually be some kind to benefit to extra reading?--Not that she planned to do it very often. Yeah...that was just no. Not that that helped right now because she was going to have to be doing even more reading.
Try to stay positive Cambridge.
She drew the first card to begin with. Wheel of Fortune. This got her eyebrow raised. Uh-huh...quite skeptical about this she got her textbook and searched for the meaning. abundance, happiness, elevation, or luck; a change that just happens, and brings with it great joy. Heh. Was she too young to be cynical? This card had to be a joke. Perhaps she pulled wrong or was taking from the wrong side of the deck. None of those fit her past...
Not completely anyway.
It got her thinking. It might have been right in some way or another. A rise and fall in fortunes. That, that she would admit was plausible.
Her life before 6 was wonderful if she was going to be fair about it.
Alright. She'd go with it. First card; wheel of fortune. Next draw.

She pulled her next card from the spread on her desk and flipped it over. The Knight of Cups. Reading the information for this card, she began to analyze it to herself. Moods and emotions changing, like for teenagers. Moods in situations changing like with family and friends... Mood swings, I guess? Um. Check. Ever since she'd been nearing her teenage years, she'd felt some queer emotional stirrings that she hadn't really felt much of before. She'd felt some loneliness and sadness lately, but it was fairly easy for her to shake during conversations with people, and soon she'd been swept up in her new state of mind. This card definitely spoke to her. That sounds like my present all right. Except...now it's saying something about deep love and depression. Well...that's not really an issue, so that's good. Although she wouldn't mind a crush or two. She smirked to herself and sat the card down, ready to draw her last card.
