The Divination classroom was as bright and cheerful as usual, the heavy curtains were pulled back and the panes were pushed open to allow a fresh breeze to flow in. The desks were arranged normally on their risers and small wooden boxes were places on each of them, enough per student.
At the front of the classroom, Professor Elwood sat in a high backed armchair with a small, spindly table to her left; her usual desk was no where to be seen. You may have noticed the Professor being absent from the Staff Table in the Great Hall for a while but she is here now and ready to teach.
The board behind her informed everyone not to pay any mind to the small boxes as they filed in.

The first to answer was also correct. "Very good Miss Potter, you are right about those things, but I will further elaborate on each of the terms." She gave the Hufflepuff a smile before looking to the other kids.
"Thank you Mr. Stonewall for that clarification, you are correct the Major Arcana is comprised of the 'face' cards whereas the Minor Arcana are the suited cards." Jory had always shown an interest in her lessons so it was a pleasure to see him working as hard as ever.
"A good start Miss Wheatborn, I don't expect you to have known what they all meant right off the bat." Callie gave the Puff a smile after she recounted her answer.
The Hufflepuffs were on their game today. Callie was impressed by their knowledge of Tarot cards and was even further impressed by the Prefect's knowledge of the origins of the term Arcana. "Very good Miss Lecium, often times when we know the origins and roots of words it can help us understand things without having much experience."
The cogs and wheels were definitely working in this Puff's head and Calista watched with an amused smile as she finally gave an answer. "Yes, we will be dealing with cards today Miss Bishop."
After her question had been asked she had assumed that the students would be the ones taking on the task of trying to piece together what she was wanting but she caught sight of a noticeable suppression of delight in Mr. Reynolds. She turned to him with a smile before answering the students.
A point in her field?
"Yes, even if you do not know what the Arcanas are you have used your deductive reasoning to come to the conclusion that we are going to be using cards today, very good Miss Dawnsel."
She was about to call on another student with a raised hand when the Ravenclaw asked another, off topic question; one that caught her off guard. Elwood looked from the girl to the Board of Governors Candidate sitting not three feet from her before slowly giving her answer. "Miss Dawnsel, that is really neither here nor there, we are in the middle of a lesson. Although I do possess the gift of Sight I will not be using it to sway voters either this way or another. Besides with things of this nature there are far too many individual Fates at work to have a decisive answer to that." In other words no. Sorry.

The next to speak up was another Hufflepuff, the male half of the Greingoth twins. "You think correctly Mr. Greingoth." Callie winked at the boy who was smiling and obviously proud of himself for giving the right answer.

She hadn't expected too many off the wall, random answers to the rather easy question she had posed them but Callie had seriously underestimated them.
Although it wasn't that far-fetched really--she had said suits.
Nevertheless the Gryffindor's answer had caught her more off guard than the question about whether or not she knew who would win the Elections. At first she had thought the girl asked if she knew Professor Airey and then she wondered why she was calling him by his first name. "Miss Cambridge, surely Professor Flamsteed wouldn't approve of you calling him by his first name and I'm sorry but no, we are not learning about him today. He had a whole class to teach you about whatever he wants then."
Another one? "Captain Fischer, we are not learning about...Professor Flamsteed." Callie said with an incredulous sigh. This was ridiculous the man had taken over her lesson and he wasn't even here. He was a...good colleague who was also very excited about his subject but she needed them to focus on Tarot Cards right now.
"We will please call Professor Flamsteed by his correct title, not by his first name." She didn't want to be all uptight like Sophia but the kids really shouldn't be addressing Airey like one of their peers no matter how childish he may act sometimes. "We will be doing tarot cards today."
Another one....but before she could correct the young Slytherin someone else entered the classroom.
..............
Did he have a taboo on his name or something?!
"Umm, Professor Flamsteed--" Before she could finished her sentence though, he was already speaking.
A date? Why did he say that? The color rose in her cheeks for a second before she was able to shake it off with a laugh. Surely the kids wouldn't think they were actually going on a date. It was cleaning, cleaning HE wanted to do.
"Yes, I remember. I will meet you there." She said quietly with a suppressed smile at him. She could NOT believe he had just interrupted her lesson for that little display.
Not waiting for Airey to leave, Calista turned back to the class and pushed a strand of her hair behind her ear, collecting herself. "Right well, despite Professor Flamsteed's...odd appearance, we will not be doing a form of Divination which will let us learn about him, at least not directly." Can anyone tell me what the standardized number of cards is for this particular deck?"
Selina tried to suppress her moan when she figured out that they would be working with tarot cards. It was not that she didn't enjoy everything that Elwood taught them, honest, it was just that tarot cards were kind of parlor tricks. And as much as she didn't particularly like her affinity for Divination tarot cards felt like a muggle movie.
Although, what made her feel even sillier was that she knew the answer. When she was younger Kurumi and her used to play a game with tarot cards. It was like a testing game of sorts. They had spent a ton of time just goofing off with them. So yeah, she knew how many cards were in the deck not that she needed them.
Raising her hand she said, "Typically 78. Honestly, it depends. You can't say definitively how many are in the deck. It depends on if you have an honest reader or not." How many sideshows just loaded their decks with the more interesting tarot cards? That way they could give customers a good show. But yes, TYPICALLY seventy-eight.
And then she heard the familiar moans and groans of Moaning Myrtle. Okay SERIOUSLY, they had to figure out a way to keep that ghost out of the confines of the classroom. ESPECIALLY Divination. Selina enjoyed this class and she did not want her wailing throughout her favorite lesson, thank you very much.

Sky was completely and totally distracted by the sudden appearance of the ghost in the classroom. But instead of asking Myrtle questions or just staring at her, the Slytherin had decided to throw balled up pieces of parchment at the ghost girl, just to watch them go through. Hey, it beat acting like a parrot and repeating what everyone else had already said, right? And just when did ghosts start randomly popping up in classes, anyway? She couldn't remember them having done that when she went here the first time......
And what was that Professor Airey (yes, she was still going to call him that) had said when he made his quick pop in? A date? Ooooo. Though Professor Elwood didn't seem so happy about it. Sky wondered why. I mean, the Astronomy professor was pretty awesome, so.....
And things got even weirder as the Quidditch Captain for her house seemed to be trying to flirt with the ghost? Oh my, my, my.

Yeah, so... everyone in the room was apparently awesome at tarot cards, because everyone seemed to be repeating themselves over and over. Mo chose, instead, to eye the cards hopefully, and then to eye the ghost with interest. While he would never choose for Professor Pretty's class to be interrupted, Mo hadn't had his fill of ghosts yet this term.
"Professor, don't you wish that ghosts could leave footprints for us to read like in our last class? I bet you could tell stuff about how they lived and died.... it's a shame, really."

Alice didn't know how many cards were in the deck, and to be honest, the whole lesson had become a little less interesting when she realized they weren't learning about Aireyhead. Shame, wasn't it? Especially since he had a date with Elwood after. It would make plenty of sense if they DID learn about him.
And everyone was saying 78 was the answer.. but apparently the ghost, the one that had appeared out of nowhere, thought otherwise. Alice decided to go with that answer,
'cause it didn't sound as boring as the other. "Fifty-two thousand, five hundred and forty-two is a lot of cards. It would be a shame if someone dropped them, you know. On account of they'd have to spend ages picking all of those up." If she dropped them, would she have to gather them all up again? On account of she didn't really want to.

Well. So divination just got interesting. Anya smirked a little watching the exchange between the Professors. She was so caught up in that that she had not realized that a question had been asked.
Nor did she really care. Tarot cards were not cloud watching or a nap. Meh.
Oh! And look! There was a ghostie.
She quickly scribbled a note reading 'Is it possible to do a tarot reading on someone dead? Also. Your hair looks great today.' on her parchment. She then leaned forward in her chair and poked Ariana. Then she tossed the parchment on her desk.
And... if anyone asked why she was passing notes, she was totally planning on saying that she thought the question was too sensitive for certain people in the room.
Namely - the nonliving person in question.
Yup. That was definitely a valid excuse.

"Fifty-two thousand, five hundred and forty-twooooooooo," a low, whiny voice just filled with pain echoed through the divination room.
There was a pause, and then two sniffles followed the moan as the source of all the noise became apparent. Moaning Myrtle had decided to sit in on today's lesson, as it were, and not because she still had a crush on the other divination professor in the room.
It was because sheeee wanted a Tarot Card reading toooooooooooo.
Merlin.
Callie hadn't noticed the ghost float into the classroom during all the mini-chaos that was Airey Flamsteed but she was there now and sitting in one of the desk as if she was a student. Was she here to learn, cause trouble, or seriously confused that she was a ghost and no longer a pupil here?
"Good afternoon Myrtle, I'm glad you've taken time out of your day to come learn with us." Was she ever really that busy though? "Unfortunately, you've guess just a tad high. There are only 78 cards in this deck but don't worry we will learn a lot more today."

So despite the distracting moans of Moaning Myrtle, Alyssa raised her hand and answered. "Professor I believe that the Rider -Waite Tarot deck is made up of 78 cards."
"That is correct Miss Potter." Another right answer from the Hufflepuff girl. She was always rather attentive in class.

"There are twenty two major arcana cards and I believe fifty six minor arcana cards...rounding it out to being about seventy eight cards all-in-all." What Ravenclaws did math for this and well, research, and she was kind of a Divination fan.
"You are right in the total number of cards but not exactly on the separation of them. But don't worry, I will go further into that in just a second." Calista smiled brightly to the Ravenclaw to show her her answer was still quite good.

As it is though, the blonde woman didn't seem to mind at all. She was such a professional, still pushing through with the class and such.
ANYHOW. They were working with Tarot cards today. Beezus have seen those before. It was particularly famous in the muggle world as what the Professor had said. And as far as her memory went...there were ---
----- Gulping gargoyles! O.o What was it this time?
SIGH. People and people interrupting her thoughts, and wait....a ghost decided to join the party. "Hello Myrtle. " Can you PLEASE not whine like that? "I think you've mistaken the Rider-Waite tarot deck for something else. There's only 78 cards for it." Smith's 78, it was. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight, Professor?
Although tempted to ask her where that 52 542 came from, Beezus chose to hold her tongue. Moaning Myrtle was complexly sensitive.
Calista was glad to see that even the Hogwarts ghosts were taking interest in her lessons but did it have to be one that was so whiny? She was happy that at least one of the students were trying to help her and address the girl politely.
"Thank you Miss Castell, and you are correct, there are only 78 cards in the type of deck we will be learning to use." The ghost had guessed just a hair too high.

And such a pity they wouldn't be learning about him. The man was quite interesting in his own right...but she wouldn't question it any further. This lesson was NOT about Professor Airey. Nod.
Ooo and lookit! The Professor!
Ahem. But back to the lesson.
She zoned back in in time to hear the question and realize that she had no clue what the answer was. Yup. Seemed about right. Nothing new there and seeing as she didn't know the answer she figured she'd just sit back for a bit and take down what the Professor was saying. Cards and ancient years and divination. That was just about everything.
From the question though she was willing to bet that the cards weren't meant for playing with and this allowed her to keep her opinions to herself...didn't want Professor Elwood to start thinking that she was doing it on purpose, otherwise there's be a time when she was doing it on purpose and it'd be harder to get away with.
Couldn't have that now. Nope. She'd stay quiet.
Except...
Except Myrtle.
"Yeah...when you were I suppose but most of them are graduated," like her Mama Vivi and Louisa, "and well, you're dead so you can't be of much help...but...don't you think you'd have died anyway by now? It really shouldn't matter..." It was a rather curious thought actually and Lex tilted her head, giving her full attention to the ghost.
"I'm just wondering."
How very curious indeed.
Alright she wasn't going to argue with them about how they addressed Airey in his own lessons but if there was ever an instance they were hosting a lesson together, they would just have to get used to the fact of calling him Flamsteed.
She was listening to someone else's answer to her question when she saw Alexa whispering something to the ghost. "Miss Cambridge please pay attention up here." Elwood would like to think that she too was trying to help and correct Myrtle's guess.

She couldn't tell. The third-year turned her gaze back to the Professor and nodded absently at each sentence. She had heard of those Tarots. And she was glad when Elwood pointed out the beginners fact. Because hearing the number 8000 made Cassia feel uneasy. However, the feeling evaporated knowing that they weren' going to study all eight thousand.
And to answer the question. "I think they are about seventy eight?" She said not sure. Since she had read ahead in the book but that was back when she was excited when she first bought the books.
Holy Cat.
This ghost had like the most unpleasant voice.
Cassia winced as the spirit spoke up in that whiny moaning voice. Annoying. Besides, ghosts weren't such a pleasant memory to Cassia. Considering last term. Mhhmm. She didn't forget. Pivoting in her seat, the slytherin made sure to turn away from the ghost. This particular one was rather annoying because it was sad and whiny.
Hearing what Lex said to Myrtle, Cassia giggled at the lioness. "Doubt she'll give you the correct answer, can't you see that she apparently has a problem with number." She whispered over to Lex. "Must be a side effect of being a ghost." there was no other explication. Why else do you explain the answer that the ghost just given. And it made sense, because surely being a ghost for ,Merlin knew, how many years would cause all the information to somehow get confused and mushed together or something.
But let's hope the Moaning ghost's hearing sense wasn't that good.
"There are 78 cards, good job!" Callie was happy to see that the young Slytherin also got the question correct. It was only a second later that she too was turned around focusing on Alexa and Myrtle. "Please focus up here dear."

O__O
Moaning Myrtle?
Loud ghost was loud.
Ella cringed a little but otherwise stayed focused on the professor. Ghosts liked to learn too apparently and she saw no harm in that. She wasn't so sure Elwood would feel the same, though.
"Professor?" Ella asked, hand in the air. "Do the number of cards in a tarot deck have significance? I mean the standard playing card deck has 52 so is there a significance to the number 78?"
Good question!
"Interesting Miss Bishop, there actually is a significance to the number but I will talk about that in just a second."

76?
"Close, Miss Wheatborn but there are actually 78 cards in this Tarot deck." She wondered mildly why the girl guessed a number that happened to be so close to the real answer.

Another correct answer but one that had a bit of sass with it. "Good answer but please remember your manners, we are all here to learn, are we not?"

Selina seemed a tad upset, probably something that happened before class or general stress about her 7th year. She would ask her after class to be sure. Either way she was hinting at the underbelly of the Noble Art. "Yes, Miss Skylar you are correct. There are some practitioners that like to sway the truth of peoples' fates by adding and subtracting cards as needed but typically we use 78." She gave her a small smile of reassurance.
Elwood wouldn't be swindling any of them today.

"I think that would be rather interesting Mr. Branxton, I will have to research that because you could probably use types of Divination that have to do with auras to achieve the same thing." She paused and wracked her brain. "Or there is always the practice of seances that allow you to communicate with the other side when they are not as...available as some." She coughed and gestured awkwardly at Myrtle. It was no matter he hadn't answered her question, he posed an interesting one himself.

Why the moaning?
"Myrtle, please, we must be polite when other students answer. And I would ask you to please be a bit more quiet during the lesson?" How was Callie supposed to teach when there was a ghost-girl whining and crying in the back. There was nothing she could do besides ask to get it to stop.
There had been many guesses but the students were mostly answering correctly. Apart from the Myrtle outbursts things were going good so far. "Right so like many of you said the Rider-Waite Tarot deck has seventy-eight cards. They are split into three categories: the 22 Major Arcana, the 40 Minor Arcana, and the 12 Court Cards."
She paused for a minute for them to write this all down and to give Myrtle, Alexa, and Dylan a quick look before moving on. "Sometimes the Major Arcana cards are called 'Face cards' because they are the ones with the drawings rather than the numbers. Now I would like you to all remove your decks of Tarot cards from the boxes on your desks and pull out all of the Major Arcana cards. Once you've done this, open your textbooks to the chapter on Tarot Cards and then raise you hand to present what you find on one of them." Simple enough, right?
"So basically what I need you to do is pick one with a picture on it, like this one," the Divination professor said as she held the Fool card up for them all to see. "and then look it up in your book and present your findings to the class. Go ahead and get to work."

Eh? What? The professor had completely lost her with all that. Because, first of all, she had thought that all Tarot Cards were face cards. She'd thought that was one of the main differences between playing cards and those. And second, what chapter on Tarot Cards? Because her book didn't seem to have that chapter. Hmmm. Maybe the professor was starting to lose it? Anyway, Sky pulled out her cards as she was told, only she counted out about 52 of them and started shuffling in totally flashy ways. Like, the way one would see a card shark do. Or was it card sharp. Either way, she was playing with her cards instead of picking one out.

Yay, they finally got to handle their cards! Mo shuffled through his deck, setting them into piles based on the text book. Major Arcana, Minor Arcana, Court Cards... And then just a random pull of the Major Arc... nope. He wasn't going to do Death. No way. Mo shuffled it back into the deck and pulled again.
The Tower. What did the book say about it?
"Professor, this is the Tower card, and it often signifies sudden and unexpected change, chaos, and upheaval. It's usually a bad omen, I think... something really big is going to change in your life, whether you're ready for it or not. Probably you're not ready for it. I think it could also mean that you have a chance to change yourself to avoid the big changes coming if you're open to what needs adjusting in your life, but that's just... what I think." Silver lining and all.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Jory opened the box on his desk and took out the Major Arcana cards then flipped his text book open to the chapter on Tarot Cards. He scanned through a couple of the cards meanings while shuffling them. He didn't know why he shuffled them. "Just a habit I guess,'' he thought. He played lots of card games when he was at home.
Finally, he pulled out one and looked at it. "The Sun,'' he muttered. He found the meaning in the textbook and read what it meant before raising his hand. "The Sun,'' the Puffer began, ''is a positive sign. It means that a prolonged time of grief or mourning or anything bad, is finally over. We now feel calm and have come to terms whit what has happened.''
"That is correct Miss Potter." Another right answer from the Hufflepuff girl. She was always rather attentive in class.
"You are right in the total number of cards but not exactly on the separation of them. But don't worry, I will go further into that in just a second." Calista smiled brightly to the Ravenclaw to show her her answer was still quite good.
"There are 78 cards, good job!" Callie was happy to see that the young Slytherin also got the question correct. It was only a second later that she too was turned around focusing on Alexa and Myrtle. "Please focus up here dear."
Good question!
"Interesting Miss Bishop, there actually is a significance to the number but I will talk about that in just a second."
Another good answer from Jory. "Yes, there are 78, very good."
"You what?" Callie asked the Slytherin Captain. She was expecting a number. "Oh, you can name them? Well good, keep that handy because I will be asking in a few minutes."
She was ready to move on to another student when she saw Dylan flirting with Myrtle. Merlin's Beard that boy was always doing something, and with that Odessa girl not in attendance today apparently ghosts were his second choice.
O___O
Selina seemed a tad upset, probably something that happened before class or general stress about her 7th year. She would ask her after class to be sure. Either way she was hinting at the underbelly of the Noble Art. "Yes, Miss Skylar you are correct. There are some practitioners that like to sway the truth of peoples' fates by adding and subtracting cards as needed but typically we use 78." She gave her a small smile of reassurance.
Elwood wouldn't be swindling any of them today.
The Branxton boy, the one who gave her flowers last lesson still seemed to be reliving that day at the Lake.
And it looked as though at least one of her students had sided with Myrtle rather than hassle her. "Miss Fischer, there are actually only 78 cards in this deck but....good guess."
Smile.
Noticing the look on Elwood's face, the confusion face at Selina's SLIGHT attitude toward tarot cards, the redhead decided it would be best to lock that up. This was her LAST LESSON EVER in this class and Elwood was awesome and had made such a huge impact on Selina in the few years that she had been teaching her. The last thing she wanted to do was leave this class on a bad note with Elwood because she respected her too much. So when she addressed her concern about the shiftiness, Selina just nodded and tried to focus on the awesometastical lesson that lay ahead. WOOT... GO TEAM.
And see, THIS was what she appreciated about Elwood. First of all, she was ignoring Myrtle, which was awesome in itself because that ghost's voice set her teeth on edge. But ALSO, she was so clear in the way that she explained things without being a chatter box. She loved Professor Flamstead, he was a snappy dresser, but he dizzied her sometimes.
Doing as she was told, she pulled her textbook out of her bag and drew out the Major Arcana set of cards. The ones with the pretty pictures. She wondered if they had coloring books for the Major Arcana. Now THAT would be a cool lesson... for like little kids... not that SELINA wanted to color... ahem.
Anyway, she randomly pulled out one of the cards and looked at its face value. Ha. Get it? Moving on, it was a Hierophant card or like the pope as street people called it. He was some old guy with two pillars surrounding him sitting on a throne and he had a staff in one hand and his hand raised up in an almost peace sign with the other. It was a nifty card. Not one that most people usually put with tarot cards. Muggles made everything so bloody dramatic.
Flipping through her book, she found the Hierophant card and rose her hand, "I pulled out the hierophant card. Its story is that the fool card, the one you're holding Professor, went to the wise old man on this card and asked for some advice." That was what the book was telling her, "And then they talk about community and sacrifice." Basically, that sometimes you have to give up the things you fear losing because you love them.
Continuing on she tried to wrap it up so that she did not drag the class along any longer then she needed to for Elwood's sake, "This card has two common forms of interpretation, although its twisted and contorted a lot. If you draw this card you either need to go and SEEK advice from a wise man like the Hierophant or you yourself are the type of person that is a pillar of your community." Okay, she was done. Did she explain enough?

Alyssa did as what Professor Elwood told everyone to do. She opened up the box and removed the deck of cards. Then she spread out the cards picking out the ones that had drawings on them. Once she had all the Major Arcana cards, Alyssa picked out one before opening her textbook and leafing through the pages, she found the meaning of the one she held in her hand.
As she read, she took down notes and once she finally understood what the card meant, Alyssa raised her hand.
"Professor this is the Justice card. An upright Justice card basically represents truth, fairness, balance and equality. Basically if the card is drawn, it means that you are being called to account for your actions and be judged accordingly. It means doing the right thing even if it is not what you really want to do." Alyssa paused to look down at her notes before continuing.
"A reversed or upside card of course represents the opposite. Injustice, Imbalance, Unfairness and Inequality. If it is drawn that way it means that the seeker is not objective and is not honest to either themself or anyone else. It shows that the person is unwilling to understand the true reason as why something happened and is not willing to accept responsibility for their actions."

BLINK.
Divination... was confusing. And it was hurting his brain ever so slightly and... he really didn't understand why. Alec furrowed his eyebrows in concentration as he listened to the blonde woman talk about the Major Arcades or something. No... wait... Major Arcana. Right. Okay. He still didn't understand except that these had drawings -- like comic books? -- while the other two sets had numbers instead.
And the Professor's commands were easy enough to understand as well. Alec reached into his bag and took out his textbook before separating the Major Arcana cards from his deck of cards and spreading them out in a line. Right. Now he just had to... pick one and explain what it meant. There were too many cards to play the Eanie Meanie Miney Mo game so... Alec closed his eyes, hovered a hand over the seat of cards and picked out one.
...
The High Priestess.
Okay... so what did the book have to say about this woman? "Erm... Professor?" he said, raising his hand in the air, "I randomly picked out the High Priestess card," The random bit was sort of important. "And... erm... the book says that this card is about secrets? So the reader or the person being observed erm... is either keeping a secret or... is about to... reveal one?" But which one did it mean?
... Moving on...
"It also says something about the presence of powerful feminine influences being in force..." Elwood was POWERFUL! ... His eyes bulged out slightly and his cheeks reddened as he read the next part. Perfect woman in his life... He didn't pull out this card on purpose... so... really, this wasn't talking about him, right? Or was that the whole... no no no! "So... erm... it's quite a pro-feminine card about secrets and mysteries and whether someone is keeping one or about to reveal it," he finished off, trying to ignore the fact that the classroom felt very hot right now.
So Ariana had out a piece of parchment and was doodling instead of taking notes. well she was taking notes, just not a lot, just like things she seemed important which wasnt a lot really just a few numbers here and there and the word Tarot Cards written nice and big. she had her head in her hand and was listening when something hit her elbow. she looked down and saw a piece of folded up parchment she looked around but anya had already poked her. she shook her head and gave a mental laugh as she opened the parchment and read it.. AHAHAH! Oh baby lion ariana thought for a minute and wrote back 'I'm not sure. maybe we should ask after class and maybe we can do a reading of Myrtle if we can for extra credit you know. and her hair looked great.. yeah she knew Thanks!' she wrote finally and folded the parchment back in half and passed it back all shifty like

Crap, what were they suppose to do!? Ariana was busy writing notes. she was listening no doubt but what she asked was confusinggg. she looked around to the other kids, did anyone else get it!? anya..? Boy over there? Anyone!?
Oh cooool. Blue grinned, finishing her notes with a dramatic flourish because they looked prettier that way. Now, onto her cards. The Ravenclaw pulled over her box and reached in, pulling out the first card she came to that wasn't a picture at all. The brunette made a face before going to find another, having more luck this time. Blue beamed. The Chariot?
Um okay.
Her wand shot up into the air, while still flipping through the pages of her textbook. "Uh Professor? I got the Chariot and um..." She frowned a little while reading. "It's about force and control. And it's got a lot to do with emotions? And because it's a bit of a wild card it's weird that it's got something to do with a water element?" Or something like that?

Her memory wasn't as bad as she thought seeing that she got the number right. she might have heard others say it too. Oh and no worries Professor all the attention was to the cards but the snake felt the need to point something out to the lioness. All was good. Since the ghost stopped moaning too.
Listening to what Elwood was saying, Cassia paid attention as she looked down at the box. Oh they could open it. The third-year reached for the box and retrieved the cards like Elwood said. It took her a bit to separate the faces cards but then she got it done. The other cards though she put back into the box.
And to choose one. Hmm...Her fingers hovered over the cards and she waited til no one was talking and picked one. "Professor. I got the Strength card." She said holding it out for proof. Then looking down at the book she spoke, "It says stuff that the strength doesn't just have a physical meaning but also an emotional one like the fortitude of one's character and the ability to control feelings.." She trailed off then added. "Then it says something about Courage and patience." There was a lot written, they didn't have to read all of it, riiiight?! Not like she minded reading, you know.

If only Beezus was fond of making scenes, this particular would've been a huge opportunity. But it was Moaning Myrtle they were dealing with here. She was rather complicated.
Pardon me? "I do know how to add, Myrtle. It was your answer that was wrong." Well, she was. And Beezus wanted her to know that. Not only because she was slightly insulted, but because the ghost had taken the time to imply that Ravenclaw house wasn't as prominent as it was years ago.

When Professor Elwood began elaborating more on the subject of the day, Beezus also started to jot down some important points that were mentioned, particularly how it all went down to 78. Mhmm. Major Arcana, Minor Arcana and the Court Cards...
Pulling the box closer to her, she opened it and took out her Tarot deck and drew a random card.
Whoa. Was the deck psychic? It knew that she was Paulie's and Kaiden's Empress. Well, at least when she haven't bequeathed it to Elliot yet. So, what does it say? Not wasting any time, the brunette laid her textbook open on her desk and opened it to the portion of the Tarot cards.
Mhmm. Hmm? Oh. Eh? ....Oh, okay.
Hand up. "Professor, I got The Empress card." See? Flipping it on its sides to show the class. "It is the third trump under the Major Arcana. Related words to this card are Fertility, Comfort, Physical Attraction, Health, Desire, Nature, Beauty." Shrug. "And uhm..." Let's take a direct passage from the book, shall we? "The Empress sits on a throne wearing a starry crown, holding a scepter in one hand. The Scepter is representative of her power over life, her crown has twelve stars representing her dominance over the year, and her throne is in the midst of a field of grain, representative of her dominion over growing things. She's kind of the symbol for fecundity and....repository for all things nourishing, sustaining and feeding others." Yep. That was it.
After taking out her deck from it's box the red head examined the tarot card closely and pouted as she tried to decide which card she wanted to find information, from her textbook, on. She quickly laid the twelve cards out on her desk, closed her eyes and placed her finger on a random one. This was the best way to choose, she didn't have to think and whatever card she got was the card she--- Her thoughts stopped as she stared at the card she did pick. Weird. Creepy. Odd. Buuut all at the same time this was no real divination just yet and that made her relaxed as she looked at the Wheel of Fortune card, once more, before her.
Next she skimmed through her textbook looking for the right bit of information she needed. She read it all to herself first, put it in her own words so that she could understand and then eventually raised her hand to talk. "Professor, I got the Wheel of Fortune." No need to mention why this creeped out, Ness. "It has got to do with opportunities, change, or even success. I would say in other words it means something is about to happen in your life, something either good or bad depending on what other cards you have, but it definitely is change or happenings. " She hoped her own wording made enough sense for the Professor to understand. The red head looked back at her notes and then nodded at them, kind of feeling confident she knew what she had just said.

Minerva listened.. Oh she was so close, darn it.. Why did she think 76.. That was dumb, writing down notes in her parchment she listened at the next step of the lesson. Oh they were picking a picture card to look up.
Minerva pulled her book closer and opened it, then she picked out a picture card and looked at it. Hmm that was an interesting card.. It said strength on the bottom, well wonder what it meant. She flipped through the pages until she found it. Putting her hand up she smiled at what it had to read.."Professor it says the strength card shows challenges, maybe from past things, or finances, but with effort and positive changes will bring a feeling of power, accomplishment, and control of your life." Putting her hand down she smiled at the card.. She liked this card, for now it was her favorite.

Ella listened to Professor Elwood and scribbled some notes here and there. She smiled a little when she heard they were ready to break into their own tarot card packs, taking out the deck in her own box and rifling through it carefully. The blonde removed the Major Arcana ones and bit her lip as she debated on which one to talk about.

"I got the Moon card, Professor." It had immediately caught her eye because there were animals involved and Ella really loved animals. Skimming her textbook with her finger, the blonde continued. "And the book says that this card has to do with one's animal nature. That's represented by the wolf and the dog. Those two also represent our fears. The moon part, well that's like the mind and erm...well the mind is trying to put the animals at ease?" Was it clear that Ella had never done this before? "So basically, this card is trying to say that someone should or will find peace soon."
Ethan pulled out his tarot cards, separating the Major Arcana from the rest. Then he cut the deck, drawing the top card. A funny little guy hanging upside down from a tree - The Hanged Man. The 17 year old flipped to the chapter on Tarot Cards to see what that one meant.
This was an interesting story that went with it and Ethan skimmed over it. Apparently it was about a guy who was in search of spiritual enlightenment and, after sitting around for days finding none, he decided to hang upside down from a tree for no reason. This changes his perspective on the world, allowing him to see with clarity. Then once he rights himself, he can act on what he's learned. Well, that was much better than what the name implied. Then he read over the meaning before giving his answer.
Ethan raised his hand and offered, "Professor, I chose the Hanged Man. The book says that this card provides clarity and a different perspective... a time of trial or meditation that leads to insight and enlightenment." Certainly not a bad card.. was that supposed to mean something for him?

Lex grinned at Cassia's suggestion. It was more than likely true you know and in fact it was probably even more true simply for the fact that it was said by the Snake. It wasn't everyday that she thought a Snake was right you know. She was about to respond to her when the Professor asked for her attention.
Right.
No distractions, she was listening here. This obviously meant she would ignore the ghost...unless the ghost said something else she would consider curious.
Ahem.
The cards. So that's what was in the box! She threw open her box and removed the deck while she listened to the Professor go one with her instructions while she flipped through the cards. They were pretty neat. Were they gonna play a card game with them after? How would one even play a card game with these...?
She stopped flipping at one that particularly stood out to her. This meant she had to say stuff about it...right? Time to go flipping through her text. Lex skipped from page to page until she came across the image. Ah-hah! "This says this card's the judgement or Aeon tarot thingy..." She skimmed the page looking for the more important stuff--reading it all was NOT an option. "Says something about it meaning...Change of position, renewal or outcome."
That's all she needed to say, yes?

So Professor Airey was going on a date with Professor Elwood? Was dating in the workplace allowed? Well that's cute! But I thought I saw him speaking with Romanos a lot lately...Maybe they're just friends.
And Myrtle was with them for another lesson this year. Well hopefully she doesn't cause a huge ruckus and fling our cards everywhere or something. That would take AGES to sort back into separate decks. Wait. She can't read minds can she? What if I just gave her a horrible horrible idea?!
And finally they were able to open their boxes! She pulled out her tarot cards, all 78 of the apparently, and spread them out on her desk haphazardly. She plucked one from the deck and flipped it over to see which she'd drawn. The bateleur...or magician, she read, then looked up the definition in her book.
"Professor, I drew the Bateleur or the Magician. It says that card means something about willpower and creativity or might signify the beginning of something like a cycle or a new thing in your life." Though why a magician would signify any of that, she wasn't really sure.

So the deck really didn't have that many cards? Alice shuffled through all 78 of them, forming piles based off her textbook. She set the Minor Arcana and Court Cards off to the side before pulling out a random one from the Major Arcana cards. What was it, then? "I drew the Devil card, Professor," she announced, staring at it for a few seconds longer before glancing back at the textbook. "It says here it means something along the lines of adverse conditions or negative events." How pleasant.
"So.. it basically means.. something bad or depressing will happen?" Why would they even put cards like that in the deck? Couldn't they just replace it with something nicer, like filling a card with compliments instead? She'd much rather draw that one.
