The Divination classroom was as bright and cheerful as usual, the heavy curtains were pulled back and the panes were pushed open to allow a fresh breeze to flow in. The desks were arranged normally on their risers and small wooden boxes were places on each of them, enough per student.
At the front of the classroom, Professor Elwood sat in a high backed armchair with a small, spindly table to her left; her usual desk was no where to be seen. You may have noticed the Professor being absent from the Staff Table in the Great Hall for a while but she is here now and ready to teach.
The board behind her informed everyone not to pay any mind to the small boxes as they filed in.

Suits. Major and Minor Arcana. And spreads.
Where they playing word association games today? Ella had her answers all ready if so.
Suits=Airey. Major and Minor Arcana=Some kind of illness. Spreads=Bed spreads?
Seemed legit.
Only then her classmates were answering about Tarot cards and Ella wasn't so sure if that was true but she could see how playing cards would fit with the whole suit and spread thing.

Alice was thinking of Airey, too, on account of that guy was suit obsessed. And word on the street was that Elwood had a THING for professors who enjoyed making little Gryffindors eat slime covered cookies and sort tea, so she thought it highly plausible that they would be learning about the Astronomy guy.
"I agree with Lex. Suits equal Professor Flamsteed," she stated without hesitation. "Maybe we'll be learning how to tell his future using tarot cards." On account of they still had to do something divination related, yeah? And she thought it highly feasible. Because, well, suits. It made more sense than tarot card suits, anyways.
Oh.. wait.. could she take that answer back?

TAROT CARDS!
Nolan had to stop himself from shouting the answer out loud.
He reached down and tapped the trusty deck of cards he always carried with him in his suit jacket, just to be sure they were still there. Oh tarot card reading. You never knew when you'd need a deck of cards handy!
He looked around at the students, smiling at how smart they all were as they answered the question correctly. So far, so good new Divination lady!

Alex raised his hand. "I think of Tarot Cards professor," he said with a smile. Duh. Who DIDN'T know at this point what the Major and Minor Arcara at this point in school??

Her eyes kept slowly drifting towards the wooden box next to her seat no matter how hard she tried to ignore them. Don't look, she said not to! she'd be thinking one minute, and the next, Why not? You can't put boxes next to people and tell them not to look and think that they really really won't look, can you? Her eyes were about to start twitching when the professor began some word association question. Instantly she put her hand up to take a guess, "Well suits and spreads make me think of cards, but I don't know much about the other two terms, Professor." She looked back to the box and wondered, Is THAT what's inside? Cards? Tarot cards most likely? Unless she's going to teach us how to cheat in poker. She sniggered mentally to herself.
And there was another BoG candidate in the classroom. Is that STILL going on? And hey, isn't he the one who said he didn't "have the sight" anymore anyway? How on Earth could he evaluate a woman who supposedly HAS the sight if he DOESN'T? I mean...how would he know the difference? Also that reminds me... When there was a break in the answering of students, Eliza raised her hand again and asked, "And Professor Elwood, I was just wondering...Do you know who will win the current elections?" It was a fair question, and they were in Divination, right? Maybe I should have asked that in private... Errr....

Hmm.... suits, which everyone knew came with a tie, both of which a certain Professor was obsessed with; Major and Minor Arcara, which sounded like the name of a constellation and spreads, maybe equal how the stars spread across the sky? Anyway, sounded like a legit answer to Sky. "I also agree Lex. We have to be studying something to do with Professor Airey." Yep. Although, she couldn't quite figure out what, seeing as this was Divination....... "Maybe some way to tell the future using the stars?" Made sense to her.

Having tripped over whatever it was for the umteenth time - and whatever it was was broken now - Airey decided to actually stop by the woman with the life style of a troll's classroom to remind her of something. Checking his sundial real quick, he concluded that she was probably in the middle of a lesson, but that made everything even better.
More witnesses.
Knocking on the door politely twice, he stepped inside and cleared his throat. "Professor Elwood, just wanted to remind you about our little date after your lesson," he said with a smirk. See kids? You heard it too, yeah? SHE had an appointment with HIM to CLEAN that Merlin forsaken corridor of hers. ANd maybe even her office. He DID get all afternoon with her - although he technically had all day according to the auction rules.
So, with another little smirk he winked rather obnoxiously in her direction. "I'll go to your office after I finish my yoga lesson with Professor Romanos."
So with another little grin, he close the door and went about his business. Heh.

PROFFESOR AIREY!!! that's what they were learning about in divination today she Swore by it.
she simply came to this conclusion because professor elwood mentioned the word suit and that was really the only thing she heard. she raised her hand " oh, professor Ai..." then there was a knock at the door and 0_____o Merlin's beard speaking of the wizard there he was! so they WERE learning about him! but what did he have to do with divination!?!? the girl sat there with a puzzled look of her face as she poked her box a few more times.. what the hippogriff was going on..
Alyssa clapped to welcome the visior before immediately raising her hand when Profesor Elwood mentioned those words.
"Professor I'm thinking of Tarot Cards. The tarot is comprised of Minor Arcana cards in four suits and Major Arcana cards, which are not in suits...and I guess you have to spread the cards when you do a reading?"
'Could we be possibly learning how to use them today?Alyssa thought to herself getting excited.
The first to answer was also correct. "Very good Miss Potter, you are right about those things, but I will further elaborate on each of the terms." She gave the Hufflepuff a smile before looking to the other kids.

"Thank you Mr. Stonewall for that clarification, you are correct the Major Arcana is comprised of the 'face' cards whereas the Minor Arcana are the suited cards." Jory had always shown an interest in her lessons so it was a pleasure to see him working as hard as ever.

That was the easiest one, putting up her hand.. "Professor, I'm not completely sure with all, but suit could have something to do with cards. So maybe the rest have something to do with reading cards."
"A good start Miss Wheatborn, I don't expect you to have known what they all meant right off the bat." Callie gave the Puff a smile after she recounted her answer.

Belle thought this out. She had heard the word Arcana used before. Belle raised her hand, "Professor i know Arcana means profound secret, the secrets they found were used to explain the universe." That is all Belle knew for now.
The Hufflepuffs were on their game today. Callie was impressed by their knowledge of Tarot cards and was even further impressed by the Prefect's knowledge of the origins of the term Arcana. "Very good Miss Lecium, often times when we know the origins and roots of words it can help us understand things without having much experience."

The cogs and wheels were definitely working in this Puff's head and Calista watched with an amused smile as she finally gave an answer. "Yes, we will be dealing with cards today Miss Bishop."

After her question had been asked she had assumed that the students would be the ones taking on the task of trying to piece together what she was wanting but she caught sight of a noticeable suppression of delight in Mr. Reynolds. She turned to him with a smile before answering the students.

"Yes, even if you do not know what the Arcanas are you have used your deductive reasoning to come to the conclusion that we are going to be using cards today, very good Miss Dawnsel."
She was about to call on another student with a raised hand when the Ravenclaw asked another, off topic question; one that caught her off guard. Elwood looked from the girl to the Board of Governors Candidate sitting not three feet from her before slowly giving her answer. "Miss Dawnsel, that is really neither here nor there, we are in the middle of a lesson. Although I do possess the gift of Sight I will not be using it to sway voters either this way or another. Besides with things of this nature there are far too many individual Fates at work to have a decisive answer to that." In other words no. Sorry.

The next to speak up was another Hufflepuff, the male half of the Greingoth twins. "You think correctly Mr. Greingoth." Callie winked at the boy who was smiling and obviously proud of himself for giving the right answer.

Now, see, if one of them came into the class offering candy she would happily greet them a million times. Something to think about.
She finally stopped poking at it when the Professor began calling out some words.
Hold on...
Suits...Major and Minor...
She tilted her head curiously at the woman. "Professor...are we learning about Professor Airey today?" The man was always going on about a suit or another and major and minor were those things in the sky. She remembered. Yup. She did.
Strange that they'd be learning about a Professor though...but then...Divination was strange so she wouldn't question it.
She hadn't expected too many off the wall, random answers to the rather easy question she had posed them but Callie had seriously underestimated them.
Although it wasn't that far-fetched really--she had said suits.
Nevertheless the Gryffindor's answer had caught her more off guard than the question about whether or not she knew who would win the Elections. At first she had thought the girl asked if she knew Professor Airey and then she wondered why she was calling him by his first name. "Miss Cambridge, surely Professor Flamsteed wouldn't approve of you calling him by his first name and I'm sorry but no, we are not learning about him today. He had a whole class to teach you about whatever he wants then."

Another one? "Captain Fischer, we are not learning about...Professor Flamsteed." Callie said with an incredulous sigh. This was ridiculous the man had taken over her lesson and he wasn't even here. He was a...good colleague who was also very excited about his subject but she needed them to focus on Tarot Cards right now.

"We will please call Professor Flamsteed by his correct title, not by his first name." She didn't want to be all uptight like Sophia but the kids really shouldn't be addressing Airey like one of their peers no matter how childish he may act sometimes. "We will be doing tarot cards today."

"Yes, I remember. I will meet you there." She said quietly with a suppressed smile at him. She could NOT believe he had just interrupted her lesson for that little display.
Not waiting for Airey to leave, Calista turned back to the class and pushed a strand of her hair behind her ear, collecting herself. "Right well, despite Professor Flamsteed's...odd appearance, we will not be doing a form of Divination which will let us learn about him, at least not directly." She reached her hand over to the small box on the table next to her chair and lifted the lid. She tilted it over and pulled out a deck of cards.
"Tarot cards are one of the most widely known and practiced forms of Divination throughout the muggle and Magical worlds. There have been about 8,000 different sets made but we are going to focus on just one, for the sake of simplicity. We are all beginners, right?" The blonde paused to make sure they were taking notes before continuing. "The Rider-Waite Tarot deck is the most widely used set in the Western world. Can anyone tell me what the standardized number of cards is for this particular deck?"

"Fifty-two thousand, five hundred and forty-twooooooooo," a low, whiny voice just filled with pain echoed through the divination room.
There was a pause, and then two sniffles followed the moan as the source of all the noise became apparent. Moaning Myrtle had decided to sit in on today's lesson, as it were, and not because she still had a crush on the other divination professor in the room.
It was because sheeee wanted a Tarot Card reading toooooooooooo.

Alyssa thought for a brief moment. Where had she heard that name before. Rider-Waite...Rider-Waite. Then she remembered where. Her cousin had a pack of those cards. She remembered that it had more cards than the regular pack of playing cards. She remembered counting them to make sure.
So despite the distracting moans of Moaning Myrtle, Alyssa raised her hand and answered. "Professor I believe that the Rider -Waite Tarot deck is made up of 78 cards."
How many cards!? how was she suppose to know!? and it wasnt anything about professor flamsteed... boo but hai there was a date huhhh * browww*.. Mika was about to answer Professor Elwoods question when the whiny voice of a certain ghost filled the room. What was she doing here? She was confusing her.
"Fifty two thousand five hundred and forty two? Thats way too many Myrtle" Mika muttered in a kind voice to the Ghost in question. What. It was good to be educated in card readings. That might have been the amount of tarot cards sold in the last millenium - but she highly doubted that.
"There are twenty two major arcana cards and I believe fifty six minor arcana cards...rounding it out to being about seventy eight cards all-in-all." What Ravenclaws did math for this and well, research, and she was kind of a Divination fan.

SIGH. People and people interrupting her thoughts, and wait....a ghost decided to join the party. "Hello Myrtle. " Can you PLEASE not whine like that? Well. Those students didn't know this, poooooor babies, but Myrtle knew that their answers were all WRONG.

Ahem. But back to the lesson.
She zoned back in in time to hear the question and realize that she had no clue what the answer was. Yup. Seemed about right. Nothing new there and seeing as she didn't know the answer she figured she'd just sit back for a bit and take down what the Professor was saying. Cards and ancient years and divination. That was just about everything.
From the question though she was willing to bet that the cards weren't meant for playing with and this allowed her to keep her opinions to herself...didn't want Professor Elwood to start thinking that she was doing it on purpose, otherwise there's be a time when she was doing it on purpose and it'd be harder to get away with.
Couldn't have that now. Nope. She'd stay quiet.

Oh watch out, children. Best plug your ears now before Myrtle started to get worked up into telling the story of how she died.

Except Myrtle.
"Yeah...when you were I suppose but most of them are graduated," like her Mama Vivi and Louisa, "and well, you're dead so you can't be of much help...but...don't you think you'd have died anyway by now? It really shouldn't matter..." It was a rather curious thought actually and Lex tilted her head, giving her full attention to the ghost.
"I'm just wondering."
How very curious indeed.

She reached her hand over to the small box on the table next to her chair and lifted the lid. She tilted it over and pulled out a deck of cards. "Tarot cards are one of the most widely known and practiced forms of Divination throughout the muggle and Magical worlds. There have been about 8,000 different sets made but we are going to focus on just one, for the sake of simplicity. We are all beginners, right?" Cassia sat with her arms folded across her chest and her foot lightly tapping the floor. She hadn't spoken yet because her guesses and first answers like never were correct. So she stopped bothering. She'd think about the second answer. Why waste breath and anyway, she was distracted by the Professor's Airey sudden presence. Did he know they were talking about him? Weird. Or cool? She couldn't tell. The third-year turned her gaze back to the Professor and nodded absently at each sentence. She had heard of those Tarots. And she was glad when Elwood pointed out the beginners fact. Because hearing the number 8000 made Cassia feel uneasy. However, the feeling evaporated knowing that they weren' going to study all eight thousand.
And to answer the question. "I think they are about seventy eight?" She said not sure. Since she had read ahead in the book but that was back when she was excited when she first bought the books.

It was because sheeee wanted a Tarot Card reading toooooooooooo.
Holy Cat.
This ghost had like the most unpleasant voice.
Cassia winced as the spirit spoke up in that whiny moaning voice. Annoying. Besides, ghosts weren't such a pleasant memory to Cassia. Considering last term. Mhhmm. She didn't forget. Pivoting in her seat, the slytherin made sure to turn away from the ghost. This particular one was rather annoying because it was sad and whiny.

Hearing what Lex said to Myrtle, Cassia giggled at the lioness. "Doubt she'll give you the correct answer, can't you see that she apparently has a problem with number." She whispered over to Lex. "Must be a side effect of being a ghost." there was no other explication. Why else do you explain the answer that the ghost just given. And it made sense, because surely being a ghost for ,Merlin knew, how many years would cause all the information to somehow get confused and mushed together or something.
But let's hope the Moaning ghost's hearing sense wasn't that good.

Yeah yeah 78.... West wasn't about to give the precise same answer as everyone else, especially not when there was a ghost in here. Way more interesting. He watched Myrtle quietly and wondered about divining things with ghosts.
That'd be way fun.

There she was, being a good little student, taking notes and not interrupting anyone or making paper airplanes to throw at peoples heads. Because this was her favourite class, okay? First the Astronomy Professor came in with that USELESS information about a date, though Blue couldn't help but let out a low "OOOOooooooooOOOH." along with some mad eyebrow action cos the professors were in LURVE and she was also immature like that. And now that annoying brat of a ghost was disturbing HER class. Yes, her's. So instead of answering Elwood's questions she just shot daggers at the unwanted guest.

Ohhhh so Airey had a little crush, did he? She'd always pictured him as more of a Professor Romanos fan but eh, she could have been wrong. Matters of the heart were tricky, after all. Ella smiled a bit to herself and may or may not have started doodling a picture of Professor Elwood and Professor Airey on their little date. Hehehehe.
As for the Rider-Waite tarot deck, the blonde wasn't sure about how many cards were included. Her classmates seemed to know though so Ella simply nodded and scribbled down the number in her notes.
O__O
Moaning Myrtle?
Loud ghost was loud.
Ella cringed a little but otherwise stayed focused on the professor. Ghosts liked to learn too apparently and she saw no harm in that. She wasn't so sure Elwood would feel the same, though.
"Professor?" Ella asked, hand in the air. "Do the number of cards in a tarot deck have significance? I mean the standard playing card deck has 52 so is there a significance to the number 78?"
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

Jory had his hand in the air and was about to give his answer when Moaning Myrtle screamed out that the answers given were wrong. He stared. "There are Seventy Eight, Professor,'' he finally said, still eyeing the ghost of the young girl.
Ethan had been watching curiously when the Astronomy professor made an appearance. Date? His eyebrows shot up as he looked between Flamsteed and Elwood. Those two were dating? Normally he wasn't much interested in gossip, but that somehow seemed interesting to have two professors dating at school.
Anyway.
Ethan turned his attention to the question at hand. He knew a bit about tarot cards - he sorta liked that form of Divination. But it appeared that several of his classmates were quite familiar with them as well. Feeling no need to repeat the answer, he kept his hand down and stayed silent.
And then that ghost appeared. That whiny ghost who made their Arithmancy class last year all sorts of nasty with her wet toilet paper.. gross. Ethan frowned slightly. Hopefully she wouldn't ruin this lesson too.. and maybe be a little quieter and less whiny? Could they just get on with the tarot cards?

Moooaning Myrtle. Meh. That ghost, really hilarious around Dylan or Milton but otherwise was a pain at times with all that moaning of hers. Either way, the red head didn't mind her joining the lesson that much, in fact it entertained Nessie a little to watch Moaning Myrtle moan about at everyone.
As for the Professor's question. Ness just looked at everyone as they answered. Did it look like SHE of all people would know what the standardized number of tarrot cards were??? Heh. She knew it wasn't worth trying and taking the same answer from someone else was just not right, plus what was the point of an answer being repeated?
So, no speaking just yet. Just pouting and scribbling for the sixth year, Hufflepuff.

Minerva watched as the Astronomy professor popped in and as fast as he was in and he was out.. That was very weird.. and did he say date? Minerva's ears perked up and she was interested in this part.. Hmmm what could be going on with this..
Oh well back to class then, she thought as the next question came but then the first answer was.. MYRTLE. Oh lord couldn't someone keep her locked in that bathroom. Didn't she do enough damage last term to stay hidden from guilt. Glaring at the ghost Minerva tried to just ignore her and put up her hand. "Professor is there 76 card in the deck." She knew she saw somewhere that it was seventy something, but couldn't remember the last number so she just decided to guess.
Nate was still in a bit of his don't make me mad, and I won't punch you kind of moods. Though the question was soooo obvious that even a baby could get the answer correct. Except Moaning Myrtle of course. What Nate meant to think was that everyone, but ghosts could get the answer correct. I mean a few people said the answer already. So Nate raised his hand in an arrogant way then stated "The answer is quite obvious. Even any-...well maybe not anyone." He stared up and down the ghost. "Can get the answer. The answer is 78 cards total in the deck." Then he directed his gaze from the ghost to the professor.
Sarah had thought of cards, playing card that was - not tarrot cards.
She smirked to herself when she heard about the date. Was Flameseed that crazy to want to DATE that professor who actually believed the future could be predicted by a mortal like her?
Sarah did not believe in divinition. The only reason why she took it was because she found it entertaining and all. She could laugh t the crackpots who believed in it later.
Yet she did not care about it enough to actually research it. So she actually did not know about tarrot cards, yet she knew that there were 52 cards in a deck of muggle playing cards.
