A new term meant a new term full of new students (and returning ones) and new subjects to be discovered. Calista had decided to keep the Divination classroom like it was decorated at the end of the year before, with the heavy curtains pulled back from the windows to allow fresh air and sunlight fill the room and land on the raised platform of desks arranged in a semi-circle facing her desk.
She had placed a chocolate frog on each desk as a welcome back to school gift but they shouldn't get used to it, she wasn't made of money. The blonde had written her name on the board with a flick of her wand and was now sitting, crossed-legged on her desk waiting for the students to popped their heads and then bodies through the trapdoor.
OOC:The lesson won't begin for another 6-7 hours from this post so there is plenty of time to post your student arriving. The lesson has BEGUN so no arriving late please, just pretend you've been there all along. Be sure to read the Classroom rules before posting, which are located here in the main Divination Sub-Forum. Selina was TOO excited for Divination to start. Mainly it was because the redhead had a, ahem, natural affinity for the subject. Her and Elwood were similar in that regard, but she really did enjoy this class. So, dropping her uncharacteristic apprehensiveness that had been trailing her around thus far, she walked into the classroom with shoulders high ready to CONQUER ANYTHING!
Yeah, she was totally ready.
Walking up to Elwood's desk, she grinned at her Professor and said, "Hello Professor Elwood... have a nice holiday?" By the way, Selina had to make a mental note to go and visit Elwood. She had some questions about some things. Yeah.
Taking her seat, Selina was blissfully oblivious to what was on her desk UNTIL she looked down.

WAS THAT A CHOCOLATE FROG?!
Selina let out a scream and swatted the thing off of her desk, "GET AWAY!", she flailed. NO WAY NO HOW WAS SHE GOING TO DEAL WITH THAT TERRIFYING PIECE OF CHOCOLATE! WHERE WAS KURUMI WHEN YOU NEEDED HER?!
Dylan entered the classroom after getting tired from the climb "Hi Professor" he said a little tired and went to look for a desk and he suddenly noticed the chocolate frogs on the table. He ran over to one and looked at the professor all excited "Thanks professor!" he said as he stuffed his frog into his pocket before anyone could take it away from him.
Just then he heard a scream as he saw Selina fling hers across the room, oh yeah.. she wasnt too fond of those. He remembered that from his first year when he had offered her one not knowing her fear of those, though he still couldnt understand what was so frightening about them. They were chocolate frogs that you ate, not threw across the room. He then saw as Melanie picked it up and said she would give it to Alice, ahh yes Alice.. she would enjoy the little frog. He would too but in a different way. "Selina, its cool now.. Melanie has got the frog now" he then heard Lex say that she wanted it, he would love to have it too but he couldnt since Lex wanted it too. He then took a seat and waited for the class to begin, he would eat his frog in peace.. where no-one could watch him or even steal it.
Susan didn't realize that Divination class would be so hard to get to. She felt like she just did a work out climbing the ladder. Maybe she should do some push-ups in her free time. Once Susan reached the top she noticed the professor sitting crossed-legged at her desk.."cool". Susan walked to towards the professor smiling to introduce herself "Hello Professor" Susan looked at the black board then back at her professor Elwood, I'm Susan. It's wonderful to meet you." Susan then took her seat in the front row and saw the chocolate frog...awesome! "Thank you for the chocolate professor!" Sue knew she was going to love her Divination professor.

Alex was a bit startled when he nearly got decapitated by a flying chocolate FROG, but after the slight shock, he shook his head and took a seat near the back. After six years at the school, NOTHING really phased him anymore.
"Helloooo professor!" he called as he took his seat. La la la. Wait wait wait.

Alice's feet were TIRED. The Divination Tower was too high. She should hire some first years to carry her up next time, mhm. "Good day, Professor Elwood," she greeted, wobbling into a seat beside Melanie, Selina, and Lex. And.. OHWASTHATACHOCOLATEFROG? "Gimme it," she said, pulling the chocolate frogs away from all three of them— she plucked a couple out of Melanie's bag, too—, opening each, and pulling out the cards. "I WANT these. You can have these," she stated, dumping them on Lex. Then she pocketed the cards and decided to look at them later.
PROBLEM SOLVED?
"Eat those soon, before Selina has a mental breakdown." Did Elwood know about the Head Girl's fear?

Eliza crossed the room and made her way towards an empty seat. She really had not missed all of those stairs over her summer break. Maybe we can make a fun pulley system, she thought. Or maybe that's just lazy, she surrendered with a sigh.
"Hello Professor Elwood," she greeted evenly and went to take a seat. Upon seeing the chocolate frogs, she stood again to thank the professor for them. "And than you for the chocolate!" she said more brightly this time.
She nodded her head and gave a quick hello to some of her classmates. "Hi Ethan...Ella." She looked at the girl next to Ethan. What is her name again? Umm..M..M-Minerva? Yep that's it. She'd met her a few times, but never really talked. I suppose it's fine to say hello though, ey?"Hi to you too Minerva," she said with a polite smile as she took her seat again. Wonder if we'll be having many ghostly visitors this lesson? she wondered as she spread a piece of parchment on her desk.
From the corner of her eye, she saw the commotion a girl was having about the frogs. Who in the world would be afraid of chocolate? Or frogs? Fake frogs for that matter...? She shrugged. Everyone's got their own thing I guess. She opened the box to her chocolate, careful not to let the frog escape, and tried to peek at the wizard card.

Divination. Hannah wondered what kind of rubbish they would be learning about this term. She looked around a saw a few familiar faces, but none that she would go out of her way to say hello too. She found herself a seat and was just about to thank the professor for the candy... yes she could be nice sometimes... when Alexa threw off her concentration. Merlin, they were only chocolate frogs, nothing to get yourself in a state over. She made note of it though. Maybe Hannah could use frogs to bride Alexa... you never know when that could come in handy you know!

Anya happily waltzed her way into the divination classroom. ... literally. With a twirl she passed the Professor's desk. "Hello Professor." she said brightly.
"Ooooh. Are those chocolate frogs?" she asked instantly distracted. Sweet. Divination was the BEST.
She looked around the room before taking a seat next to Jake. She waved over to him before giving the chocolate on her desk a poke. Were they allowed to eat these? Or were they about to perform some chocolate-based predicting the future?
Because. That was the type of divination she might thoroughly enjoy.

Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
Oakey stepped into the classroom just in time to watch Selina freak out. He stood at the entrance and followed the frog until it landed by Melanie.
This was Divinations wasn't it?
He continued on into class and nodded to Professor Elwood "Good Day Professor." He said as he grabbed a seat by a new looking Ravenclaw girl. He eyed his desk and noticed he had a Chocolate Frog on his desk as well as every desk aside from Selina's in the class.
He gave his frog a disgusted look as you would a normal frog that was sitting on your desk and picked it up in his hands. He didn't like Chocolate Frogs and didn't much care for the cards inside them. He looked over to his side and saw that the Ravenclaw girl was infatuated with hers. "Here you can have mine too." He extended his arm across the aisle placed his Chocolate Frog on her desk.
Taylor came into the classroom and smiled at the teacher, "Good day, Professor." She straighten her uniform and smiled, "I hope your summer was well." Tay glanced around and sat down. Taylor sighed, hoping she has enough time to do well on her OWLs this year.
Oichi was not certain if divination was all a hoax but somehow thus far divination had always been fun at Hogwarts so she was definately looking forward to the first one this term. With packed bag she headed to the divinations classroom. She reached the stairs and climbed up. She poked her head through the top and saw that the room had a very comfy feel since it had the same decorations from last term. She climbed the rest of the way and walked in, "Good day Professor Elwood", and with that she took a seat at one of the tables. She then noticed a little treat on her desk and beamed. Yay, free chocolate frog!!! She quickly opened it and grabbed the frog before it could get anywhere. She took a bite, mmmm.
Merlin how much did she had to climb to finally get to the class?
Nina was out of breath trying to be as early as possible and of course that was hard for her to achieve. Fortunately she was on time and not much excited about the class but she was in a good mood today so she didn't mind. The girl stepped into the room and there was the professor "Morning professor..." whoever you are heh. Then she read the board. Oh right. "Elwood" said with a nod. Good, now off to find a seat.
There were a few familiar faces and...chocolate frogs. Great. She didn't like chocolate that much but it was a nice gesture. Way to go professor.

She had bought some of the heavy paper and a few cheap quills in Diagon Alley for her assignments, but she would do her notes in the muggle fashion she preferred.
Audrey headed the page 'Divination Lesson 1' in her not exactly pretty (but easy to read) handwriting.
After making her way up into the classroom, Lily slowly made her way over to the seats, passing by the professor on the way. "Good day Professor." The redhead gave a small nod toward the professor before heading over and picking the seat next to a familiar face. "Hiya Audrey." She said before picking up the chocolate frog on her own seat and sitting down and placing her stuff for class down on her lap. "You ready for class?" She asked the firstie as she herself got settled for the class.
McCall was almost out of breath once she reached the top of the staircase. She opened the trapdoor and stepped inside the classroom, taking in the interesting decorations. Yes, indeed, Divination would be a very interesting class. "Good day, Professor!" she said happily as she found herself a seat. And was that...was that a chocolate frog she saw on the corner of her desk? It was! "Thank you for the chocolate frog," she said as she took out a blank piece of parchment.

Mackenzie couldn't believe she had actually managed to make it Divination, this had been her mothers favorite subject here so she couldn't wait to see what she would learn. "Hello Professor" the girl beamed as she entered the classroom and took her seat, surprised by the chocolate frog, "Thank you!"

Why couldn't Divination be held in a more..... Slytherin friendly place? Was really that much better for the class to be held in the high-end of the backwoods of nowhere? Or did the professors just love to torture them? Either way, she WOULD be putting a word in with the Board to fix that. It was just silly to expect them to climb all those stairs, then a ladder just to get to class.
Needless to say, it was a breathless and irritated Sky that entered the Divination classroom and sat in a seat. "H-hel-lo, pro-fess-or," she panted out, before noticing the chocolate frog sitting on her desk. CHOCOLATE! It would be even better if it were M&Ms, but she'd take what she could get. She caught her breath, then picked up the chocolate treat, opened it and quickly bit off the head before it could hop away. She would've propped her feet up on the desk, but unfortunately she was in her uniform. That was one thing she would miss about her old school. No uniforms.

Entering the Divination classroom, Dylan eyed all the people already present...Wow, they were eager, weren't they? Also, there was a little something on each desk...Upon closer looks, the Slytherin recognized the infamous chocolate frog wrappers...

Dropping down into an empty one, he snatched his up immediately. A little after-breakfast snack sounded amazing...
"Thanks for this, Professor..." He tore it open and beamed down at it's chocolatey goodness...Ahem. "...Also, good morning."

"No worry, Captain Dixon they're just my little welcome back gifts to you guys so yes you may eat them. I know how wonderful chocolate is so I understand your excitement." It was a fine snack after all.

Continuing past her, he took a seat at a desk. His eyes lit up when he saw the chocolate frog. Welcome back indeed. Opening it, he bit the head off before setting it back on the wrapper and picking up the card. It was even a card he didn't have yet! Definitely worth the stairs.

Calista smiled back at the new Gryffindor Prefect as he entered the room. "Hello to you too Jake, congratulations on the Prefect's badge. My summer was good, I hope your's was the same?" It was good to see that even the new student leaders were taking her class.

Calista couldn't help but notice the girl seemed a tad more clueless than the others and it was just adorable really. "Good morning to you too dear." She said with a quick wink from her perch on the desk. She almost giggled at the sight of the young Ravenclaw trying to figure out the chocolate frog.

Taking a seat at a desk, the thirteen year old's eyes widened. FOOD. EDIBLE FOOD WITH STUFF THAT WAS BAD FOR YOU IN IT. Oh, this was brilliant. "And thank you for the chocolate, also!" It was going in Elodie's bag, and would then be eaten as a midnight snack, or maybe something like 9pm, because Els had a bedtime.
And bedtimes were good.
Another Hufflepuff, Professor Elwood had noticed how they seemed to really enjoy her lessons for some reason.
"Hello there, I did have quite a good summer." Better than last year's by a mile. "And you're welcome, I thought it would be a nice way of welcoming you all back." Everyone could use a little sweet before a lesson.

Violet made sure to take her time so that she wouldn't be out of breath as she walked up the what seemed to be, the never-ending staircase up to the Divination Tower. Although, she did find herself breathing a tad bit heavily as she had made her way. Which was why just for a reassurance she had her hand calmly running along the railing as she went.
When she had reached the top of the staircase and reached the classroom, relief had come over Violet. She collected herself before popping her head into the trapdoor, followed by her body. She then turned on her heels and made her way towards the desks, picking one in the middle.
When she looked down she saw a Chocolate Frog box sitting on her desk and her eyes lit up a little bit. She however did jump when she heard Nessie suddenly burst out at the sight of her Chocolate Frog, which made Violet remember how the girl did enjoy her sweets. Violet giggled and just left her Chocolate Frog alone for now, figuring that she'd just eat it later.
In the mean time, she took a moment to get herself organized, by placing her books in one corner of her desk, while placing her peacock feather quill on top of them. She took a breath and then crossed her legs sitting properly waiting patiently for class to begin.
"Hello dear, and I did thank you." Her summer had been great but she was glad to be back and ready to teach all of them about the Noble Art of Divination.

"Erm... hello Professor!" Eldwood, right? "Hope you had an awesome summer!" A grin and a small wave was given to the blonde woman before Alec continued to move towards an empty desk. He sat down and- CHOCOLATE FROG? ... That was... nice. Yeah. "Erm... thanks for the chocolate frog, Professor," he called. He placed the wizarding chocolate into his bag before pulling out his parchment, a quill, inkpot and, of course, his books.
There. He was ready to Divinate.
A rather confused looking Hufflepuff arrived next from the trapdoor and greeted her. "Hello, welcome. And my summer was awesome, thanks for asking." She chuckled. It was so good to be back around all of them again, kids were just so funny. It was like they weren't even trying.
"You're welcome." The chocolate seemed to be good in their books.

This one had been the first to ask if the treats on the desks were for them to enjoy or for part of the lesson and she was happy to see that she was a traditional Ravenclaw, always questioning things. Selina let out a scream and swatted the thing off of her desk, "GET AWAY!", she flailed. NO WAY NO HOW WAS SHE GOING TO DEAL WITH THAT TERRIFYING PIECE OF CHOCOLATE! WHERE WAS KURUMI WHEN YOU NEEDED HER?!
Selina was here! Professor Elwood waved excitedly as the Gryffindor Quidditch Captain--wait, no she had a new badge on her robes. What was that....? Oh! "Good morning Selina and I guess congratulations are in order as well." She was Head Girl, how exciting. She's had two of her favorite students in that position now.
Just as she was going to suggest they meet for lemonade in her office soon now that term had started Selina had shrieked at something, causing Elwood to stand up from her desk and hop over to the girl. "What's wrong, Selina are you okay?!" She hadn't seen the chocolate frog being thrown across the room but she had heard the screams of getting the chocolate away from her and such." Oh. Whoops?
"I'm soooo sorry dear, I didn't know you weren't a fan of chocolate." Who didn't like chocolate? It was quite strange really. "Here..." she said going back to her desk and pulling out a licorice wand and giving it to the freaked Head Girl. "Have this instead." And now hopefully people who had been about to enter the room hadn't gotten scared and run off.

Still standing near Selina to ensure that she didn't have another blow-up and pass out or something over her little idea of welcoming them all back, Callie heard another Lion greet her. "Hello dear..." she said a tad distracted, giving her a small wave. She had joined her and Selina however and had taken the chocolate frog and seemed to have solved the problem. Oh thank Merlin. "Thanks." She said quietly as she went to take her spot back on top of the desl.

Just as she turned to see what Scary-Bat Girl might have screaming at and heard Melanie offer to hand the seemingly swatted frog to Alice. NO. "She already has a pet frog, I want it!!" No more chocolate frog pets! That's not what they were fooooooor!
And there was little Miss Cambridge. "Hello Miss Cambridge good to see you again--" and she too was freaking out over the chocolate except this time it was a good freak out. A bit taken aback but still very excited that she liked it, Calista told her she was welcome and then awkwardly tried to ignore as she and the other Gryffinfor who had taken the frog from Selina fought over what to do with it.

Another new student, or at least to Divination entered the classroom next. Callie hadn't seen her around the Castle but that didn't really mean much. But she was introducing herself...and had an apple for her? Aww.
"Thanks Miss Pillsbury and I'm glad, I've got a bunch of fun stuff planned." She had never been brought an apple before but she felt even more like a real teacher now. WOOT!

Audrey headed the page 'Divination Lesson 1' in her not exactly pretty (but easy to read) handwriting.
Aww another eager newbie to Divination.
Callie smiled and nodded as the little first year introduced herself and thanked her for the chocolate. "It's nice to meet you and you are more than welcome for the treat. I hope you enjoy it and the lesson."

"Welcome back Miss Bishop and my summer was wonderful thanks for asking." Professor Elwood greeted the returning Puff as she entered the class and took her seat. "And you're quite welcome." For the chocolate, she was happy she had given it to them apart for Selina who had freaked out.

From the corner of her eye, she saw the commotion a girl was having about the frogs. Who in the world would be afraid of chocolate? Or frogs? Fake frogs for that matter...? She shrugged. Everyone's got their own thing I guess. She opened the box to her chocolate, careful not to let the frog escape, and tried to peek at the wizard card.
"Hello there Eliza, welcome back." She waved at the Ravenclaw as she entered the class and took a seat. "You're welcome." She said in reply to the chocolate comment. The girl had always given great answers during class so hopefully today's lesson wouldn't be an exception.

He had a shiney new badge on his robes too but she didn't say anything just yet because he had taken a seat beside the new Ravenclaw girl who hadn't known what to do with her chocolate frog. Aww he was giving her his!? That Prefect badge was sooo right on him, it was!

The rungs on the ladder leading up to the classroom were making noise as another student made their way up through it. The girl who appeared was a Snake and more than out of breath. "Are you alright dear?" What had she run all the way up from the Dungeons?!

"Ah, glad to see you could make it Mr. Montmorency." She grinned as he pulled the rest of himself in and took his seat. She shut the door behind him and returned to the desk. "You're welcome dear and Good morning." She returned his greeting. He seemed happy this morning.
So the classroom was rather full when the clock struck the time for the lesson to begin. Calista Elwood was very pleased with the amount of students in attendance and hoped that they would all stay on to tackle the subject throughout the term.
Continuing to sit right there cross-legged on the desk she addressed them all. "Welcome everyone to the first Divination Lesson of the term. I'm Professor Elwood for those of you who are new to Hogwarts or just Divination this term and I am excited to lead you all into the Beyond this year." She paused to allow that awesome and exciting journey prospect to sink in.
She wiggled after a second of quiet thinking after receiving an unexpected vibe but then spoke once more as if nothing had happened. "Right so I know we are all up here in the Divination Tower but I want today's lesson to be held outdoors since it is so nice on the Grounds."And she might get a glimpse of the Groundskeeper while out there The blonde had wanted them all to meet here for a few reasons, to get the role done correctly, make sure everyone knew where the classroom and her office were and to not give away the topic of the lesson before they even started. And no, torturing the kids by making them walk up all the stairs and then back down them to the Grounds was not one of the reasons she was starting here.
"So to begin, I would like you all to think of some forms of Divination we could be doing outside today and share them with the class. No answers are stupid answers." Elwood said cheerfully as she gestured fluidly to the windows. Taaaa-daaaa, OUTDOORS!

Were they going outdoor? Alyssa smiled. She loved being outdoors and couldn't wait for the Professor to instruct them to follow him.

Taryn Hayden had decided to be a bit more serious about her classes this term, being that it was her last. While she didn't always think that Divination was quite truthful, she'd always found it rather interesting, and so, she sat in her seat, eyes trained on the Professor and mulled over the question. "Ornithomancy would be one, Professor." The girl spoke as she raised her hand, "Reading the actions of birds." Which obviously would have to happen outside, well, for the most part, anyway.

Mo wrestled with his chocolate frog for a moment before flipping the thing, now out of its wrapper, through the air in the direction of Lex. He didn't want his mouth to be full when the class started, and he knew she was probably going through some sort of chocolate-related withdrawal. Even if she'd had six frogs already, she was probably in withdrawal.
He watched the professor with great interest, partly 'cause this was Divination and he had to approach it with due seriousness, and partly 'cause she was ridiculously pretty. Professors oughtn't be pretty. It was a terrible thing to do to a student. "What about... uh..." Mo blinked stupidly before his hand shot into the air. Brain engage THEN speak. "Reading tea leaves? My mum reads those sometimes. Or she says she does..." No proof, see?

Eyeing the Professor, Dylan grinned some more. He was glad that he could make it, too...ON TIME, nonetheless. Yea, he was a beast. Everyone just needed to know these things...
Listening carefully as she began speaking, he nommed on the chocolate, taking it's head in a single bite. She was informing them that they'd be traveling outside.......Hmph.
"Floromancy." He offered. They'd tackled the subject on OWLs...So, it seemed legit.

The Puff raised a hand. "Botanomancyperhaps?'' he asked his hand in the air. Divination involving the use of burning figs.
Melanie had a few things to tell both Lex and Queen Alice. The first was how they were to be kept as pets. The second was that Queen Alice shouldn't go through Melanie's bag. And the third was, that was definitely not how a queen should act. Letting out a defeated sigh, because she knew that she would never get them to listen to her, she just sat in her seat and kicked her legs back and forth, pulling out a notebook as well.
Right. There were OWLs this term which meant she needed to focus. Focus. Focus.
She picked up her quill and played with it as she listened to the professor speak. The lesson was going to be outdoors? She hoped it didn't get chilly outside or anything because she didn't bring an extra sweater. The Gryffindor blinked her eyes a few times at the question. Divination that they could do... outside?
"Aeromancy?" Melanie offered, raising her hand. "That's divination using clouds right?" Because she had heard of something like that from her cousin complaining about classes all the time.

She raised her hand. "Cloud watching." she suggested. Maybe then she could find out why she ONLY was capable of seeing elephants in the clouds.
"Or we can nap outside." And yes. She really was going to suggest that every term until they did.
And yeah... it totally had something to do with divination. ... probably.
