Text Cut: Professor Elwood and a bit of Ella Harvey sat there as he listened to the professor as she introduced herself and then he smiled as she said they would be going out into the grounds today, at this point he coincedently looked at Ella... and.. was she blushing? He wondered what had brought that wonderful color to her face, well.. as long as something made her happy then he was too.. anyways what was the professor saying. Oh yes! the grounds.. he put up his hand "Professor we looked at bird formations once in a bowl of water.. it was called.. erm.. Orni.. Ornito.. Ornithomancy.. I think it was" he finally answered and put his hand down as he remembered that one particular lesson. It was a little tough to get a grasp of but he had done it in the end finally |
"Hi dear." Callie said as another Claw entered the class and took a seat. This one had been the first to ask if the treats on the desks were for them to enjoy or for part of the lesson and she was happy to see that she was a traditional Ravenclaw, always questioning things. "Yes, those are for you guys to snack on before we get started or later if you'd prefer. Just a little welcome and welcome back gift." "So to begin, I would like you all to think of some forms of Divination we could be doing outside today and share them with the class. No answers are stupid answers." Elwood said cheerfully as she gestured fluidly to the windows. Taaaa-daaaa, OUTDOORS! "Thank you, Professor. That is very kind of you," Rowan replied and took a seat. She'd never had a chocolate frog before and wasn't quite sure what to make of it. OOO! Outside! Rowan's favorite place in the world. With a big grin on her face and hoping this was indeed not a stupid answer, she raised her hand. "Looking for shapes in the clouds? Like reading tea leaves...sort of." |

The boy gave Eliza a little wave as she entered the classroom and greeted him. Then his eyes turned wide upon hearing a scream in the room. What.. was happening? Swiftly turning his head in the direction of the sound, he tried to understand what was going on. It was the candy? SPOILER!!: Professor Elwood And now it was time to guess the lesson. Ethan really hated when professors asked the students what they would be learning. Wasn't it part of their job to be telling them? The sixth year had half a mind to raise his hand and answer Legilimency, since it seemed the professors wanted them to read their minds.. but it seemed to him that it would be something of a smart-alecky response and he wasn't about to disrespect the lovely Ms. Elwood. Instead, the boy half-heartedly listened to the other guesses and thought for a moment about another form of Divination that someone hadn't already said and would most likely be done outside. "Maybe a form of Capnomancy, Professor?" Ethan offered after raising his hand. Because if they burned anything, it probably wouldn't be done in the classroom. It would definitely be too smoky in here to read anything. |
Nope Oakey no clue what type of Fortune Telling they would be doing outdoors, he like Divinations, and Professor Elwood made the classes very interesting. He'd venture a guess at least, and from what he was hearing there was a lot of mancy's being thrown out there. maybe he'll get lucky just once and call out a correct one. "Nimbus...mancy." Oakey guessed putting the two words together. "It's Fortune telling by looking at cloud shapes, like if a cloud were shaped like a bunny, then you'd have a good day." Genius Oakey! Genius! If that wasn't a real form of Outdoor Fortune Telling, you may have just created a new one. He smiled at himself. |
Text Cut: Professor Candy? Dylan looked around as a few more people freaked out over the chocolate frogs on their desks, sheesh it was just chocolate! Not that it was a bad thing Selina, cause moving frogs that you meant to eat could be a bit freaky he understood that. But was it really that bad that there were others apart from Selina that didnt like those yummy treats? Well maybe they should give him the frogs then, oh wait others were STEALING them! He knew he should have sat nearer to one of those that were scared of the frogs, now he had only one He was about to comment on this unfairness when the professor started talking and told them that they would be going outside, this made him perk up. They would whatnow?!! COOL!! He loved the outdoors.. maybe he could have one of his little fun times outside.. mm what could he do? His thought process was interrupted by the professor asking them a form of divination, he only knew a few and those had already been said. Star stuff cant be done now cause it was broad daylight so that was out.. mmm "Maybe you throw a rock and see how many times it bounces.. and the number of bounces tells you ..something" what! he didnt know anymore so he made one up.. so what! He looked around the room in case anyone was looking at him, dont you look at me like that now. At least I answered the question.. she said no wrong answers!, he then looked outside as he couldnt wait to get outside! |
"Glad you had a good summer Professor!" Belle smiled. She was glad she heard her politeness and was glad to give away free chocolate frogs. They were Belle's favorite treat. Belle's eyes widened when she heard they were going outside. She loved the prospect of exploring the grounds than being in a classroom. Then the professor asked a question, What type of divination would they be learning outside? Belle had no idea...but she could guess. Belle raised her hand, "Professor will be learning about the nature elements like the sun, earth, fire and water and they helps us determine our future such as Tarot Cards?" |
Outside? But we just got UP here! She grunted silently at the thought of taking the stairs again so soon. Hopefully we can just take our stuff and leave from downstairs once class is finished. She wasn't feeling particularly peppy today. Most days the stairs really didn't bother her. There had been so many answers given already, Eliza wasn't sure what to say. Most of what she'd thought of had been said as well as others she had never even heard of. I should really review my textbook... she thought as she scribbled down some of the things mentioned. She raised her hand a bit timidly and added to the bunch, "What about a type of divination having to do with water - like reading the ripples and waves in a lake or a puddle?" She put her hand down and waited for a response. That could be a type right? |
Oh no! They had to back down the ladder, Susan thought she really should get started on doing push-ups if she wanted to be able to get to and from class easier. Susan slowly followed the professor and the rest of the down the ladder. Susan figured she would be last so she wouldn't slow anyone up. Then Susan remembered they were suppose to be thinking about what they could study outside. Well you studies stars in Divination right? Well it was light outside so no stars. Wait wasn't the sun a star? "Could we be studying the position of the sun?" Wait wasn't that to determine the time of day? Well the professor said no stupid answers...hopefully she was speaking the truth. |
Everyone gets points for their guess, no worries. ^_^ SPOILER!!: Good, nature/outdoor related methods See, students always had this idea that Divination was hard and yet they were all doing pretty well at a slight form of predicting their future. You just need to try! The blonde pointed at each student as they raised their hand and gave an answer nodding as they spoke but shaking her head with a small smile each time. She had giggled when Anya mentioned taking naps--that poor girl always was tired. And she informed those who asked about Xylomancy (Twigs) and Belomancy (arrows) that they had already learned those methods last term and the one before that, her Ogham Staves lesson. "Those are all great answers of things we could do outside, just not what I have planned for this morning." "Cloud, water, insect, wind, tree and wood Divinations are all wonderful guesses." Yes, good kids, perhaps they could do some of those next term. SPOILER!!: Things you TECHNICALLY could do outside hehe Ummm...perhaps Elwood should have phrased her question a tad differently but surely the kids would have realized if she was going to have them all trek all the way out to the Grounds they would be doing something that she couldn't just pull supplies for out of her closet. "Good try guys but tarot card, crystal ball, and tea leaf readings could all be done right here." Even though it would be nice outdoors, sometimes you needed a quiet, closed space like her classroom to do those--especially Crystallomancy where you usually needed darkness (but her set of crystal balls had been smashed last term so that one was completely out of the question). Calista tried to think of what that would be but she couldn't remember anything in her studies. Was it possible that a student, one of this boy's age and without her ever seeing him in one of her lesson's before, would know about a form of Divination she didn't know herself? Not likely. But this 'West' would be telling them what to do? By the look on the boy's face and the chuckles from his classmates she had a feeling what he was doing. "Mr...." she looked for his name on the role sheet, a painted fingernail sliding down the list until it hit the O's. Gah, Merlin ANOTHER ONE? "Odessa. I would prefer you not make a mockery of the Noble Art during my lessons," she said to him without raising her voice above it's usual level, "unless you wish to write me a paper on the uses and ways of practicing Westomancy to be added to the literature of the subject." And usually kids didn't like doing extra work. She wasn't going to take points though, it was his first lesson and...he was Aspen's sister so it was kind of expected. SPOILER!!: Pretty close guesses! AHH! There were a few kids who were right on the precipice of discovery! Calista sat up a little bit at each of their answers until she was standing in front of her desk instead of sitting on it. "Come on, you're sooo close!" she said excitedly. But there was no more illumination on that line of thinking. ------------------ Since no one had guessed the form of Divination they would be learning today the blonde decided to tell them, she would have to anyways. Since she was standing already she decided to actually walk to the board and write the word on the board rather than use magic. Once she had written the definition, Calista stepped towards the trapdoor and lifted it open. "Alright, grab your things and follow me to the edge of the Lake." And they were off!! MUSH! The way that they were all panting on the way up here just proved that they needed the exercise, she had to walk up them all the time, she lived up here. OOC: I would prefer you post your character leaving the room before posting at the thread I've opened here at the Lake. When you arrive there just kindly wait for me to post the next set of instructions. |
Christmas got her belongings together and followed the professor out of the trapdoor and made her way to the edge of the lake ready to continue learning and she put the chocolate frog in her pocket to snack on later |
Gosh, there were loads of ways to study Divination. Jory had never even heard of most of them. He made a mental note to read up on them. He looked at the board as Professor Elwood wrote. Footprints. "Sounds interesting,'' he thought. The Puff broke into a smile. The Lake! One of his favourite places. He stuffed his things into his bag and followed the Professor. |
Laura looked at the Professor and smiled, cooooool field trip well sort of they were going outside so technically it was a field trip to the field outside, she grabbed her things and followed the Professor, this was going to be awesome and she hoped that she could actually do this type of divination. |
Alyssa quickly jumped up from her seat and grabbed her bag. She had of course been ready the moment Professor Elwood had mentioned that they would be having their class outdoors. She followed the Professor and the rest of the students out of the class. |
Violet couldn't help but clap to herself when the Professor had accepted her answers. And because of that it made her feel rather relieved! Yay for class participation! She then watched as the Professor went to write what they'd actually be learning on the board. Violet said softly,"Ohh..Ichnomancy" She then took a moment to write that down on her parchment so that she could remember that for later. Then she wrote down that it was Divination by prints/footprints right below it. Her head then whipped up when she heard the Professor tell them to gather their things, which she did immediately and began going along with everyone towards the edge of the Lake as she had instructed. Which meant..the stairs again.. Well, at least they were going down instead, which is what Violet would prefer do anyways! Nonetheless, to the Lake she went! Of course, making sure not to trip down the stairs in the process, for that, would cause to be a rather embarrassing fate.. |
And Ella's in here as well ^_^ SPOILER!!: Professor! So... it was Elwood. Okay. He could remember that. Alec grinned at the woman, secretly wondering whether he should tell her his name. Because... they had never met properly before, yeah? So introductions were in order? ... Or... he could just say it afterwards if she struggled to call him anything? ... That sounded like a plan as well. He sat back in his seat and waited... ... Hair!ruffle. Alec grinned back at the blonde haired girl in response, started to feel really very happy. Because... well... she had chosen to sit next to him. And that was awesome, yeah? GRIN. Even... if it did mean that he was bound to get extra confused during the lesson. OH. QUESTION. BLINK. STARE. ... That was hard. Sure, there had to be different types of Divination but... why did all of these names sound so... hard? Were they expected to remember ALL of them? Alec sat back in his seat and just blinked at each person as they gave an answer. Okay... he was going to have to put more effort in this subject, wasn't he? Shaking his head, Alec looked back up at the Professor as she started writing something on the board. Ich... no... man... see. Ichnomancy! Nodnod. Except... he didn't know how they could Divinate from footprints but... well... as long as Elwood was going to explain.... Shrug. ... OH! OUTSIDE. LAKE. The fourth year grinned slightly and picked up his bag. He stuffed his belongings inside and started to follow the Professor and the others students. |
Giiiiiiiiiggle. "Westomancy is COOL." Theo said, slightly out of turn, before actually listening to what the professor actually had to say. Oh, so his answer wasn't exactly right. He hadn't really listened to the question, that's why... Prints and hand prints, hmmmm... Sounded okay. He was NOT happy about having to go back down the stairs. What was the point in coming all the way up here for a meaningless few minutes of a class introduction? Baaaaaaaah, oh well. Theodore pulled himself up and went to leave. |
Ready for the Bring it ON. |
YES! The lake! After jotting down an few notes about Ichnomancy, Rowan quickly grabbed up her things and carefully placed them in her bag, including the chocolate frog. Slinging her bag over her shoulder, she followed the Professor out of the classroom, barely able to contain her excitement. |
Clueless to any and all types of divination, Ellura had stayed quiet as the professor started the class by asking about they thought might be the topic of class. The mention of doing stuff outdoors had perked some interest but her thoughts were pulled away indirectly as more and more areas of the art of divination were mentioned. Wow...she had no idea there were so many. She had started to try and take notes but it had soon got a bit overwhelming and not all of them had been given descriptions. So the third gave up and simply listened and wondered herself on what it might be. Ellura didn't have to wait long before Professor Elwood wrote or rather magicked the name and description of the topic at hand. Quote:
Lake here we come. |
Footprints? That's what they were going to be looking at? Hmmm...well she honestly never would have guessed that. She stared at the bottom of her shoe for a few moments, wondering if her prints would say something good or bad about her. Hmmmm....probably that she was a big old worrier. Oh! They were going to the lake? BEAM! ...Even if she had walked up ALL those stairs and nearly died. #Dramatic. The blonde packed up her things and followed |
Ah, well, she'd been pretty close anyway. There were lots of options after all- OOOOOOH. Outside. Taryn liked outside. That was where the hottie groundskeeper was. Heh. The blonde GLADLY gathered up her things and followed the Professor out of the classroom. Hopefully she'd be able to pay attention and not get too distracted.... hehe. |
SPOILER!!: ze Professor Dylan was being a good boy and listening carefully to everything the Professor had to say. So, they wouldn't be analyzing flowers...Not that it mattered too much, he'd obviously done well with it on the OWL... ...And he was eyeballing West. The Captain palmed his face listening to the younger boy's answer, trying extremely hard not to laugh outright. This was partially his fault. Egos ran deep in Slytherin...and among the team. Something he encouraged. Hmph. Glad he hadn't unpacked anything, Dylan slung his bag over his shoulder, getting up to follow the others down to the grounds. Off to the lake with them... |
A mini field trip to the lake? Well that would make for an interesting first class. McCall finished jotting a few notes down on her parchment before packing up her belongings, including her chocolate frog, and following her classmates out of the room and down towards the lake. |
"Ummmm..." Darn, Alex was going to say the cloud one! That was a cool one, he'd never known that sitting outside, staring at the sky, he'd been doing divination! How interesting. "What about that one where you look at water? For symbols? We could be doing that in the lake," he said with a shrug. That seemed plausible, although the lake was prettyyyy deep and dark, it might not be the best for seeing symbols... |
That was close. They were going tomtake up footprints, and not really walking. But she was close to it, so Kat was a bit happy for herself. Or smug cos she was one of the few to guess it. Hundred precent Slytherin. Kat weote the definition of the divination on her parchment. SPOILER!!: parchment Kat fixed her things and placed everything in her slingbag. Yeah they could totally fit. Once packed, Kat was ready to leave. Anyway she liked the Lake. Everything was cool. |
