This.. was going to be a very boring lesson, Vanora already knew it.

But as much as she wanted to just jump right into bringing out the creatures, and doing what she had planned for the lesson at the end of the term, she knew she was going to have to take it slow, and first have a review lesson of sorts. Which was why, the stables where the lesson was being held was empty of almost everything, except the stalls because.. well, they were hard to get rid of, weren't they?, and a few few almost cozy looking seats scattered about. A large chalkboard was also there, standing at the front where Professor Newlin would have been if she was there, which she was not.

In her place, however, Grise stood, tail erect and nose already making its snorting noise as the coati sniiiiiiiiffed the air. She was hungry. And she knew kids always had food on them.

They would be coming soon, right?

OOC: This lesson will start in approximately 24 hours! =D

After some hand-raising, Dylan smirked. "I'm going to guess they can fly?" Had someone mentioned that? Merlin, he needed to pay attention better...He tried not to listen to others...lest they effect his answer in some way.

She quickly scrambled to find a seat. Now... what were they talking about? Winged horses? Her hand shot up. "Oh! There's a breed called... Grain... er... Granian!" Yeah. That sounded right. SEEEEE! She totally studied. Yup. Teacher!lady should be proud. And stop giving her weird looks. Anya did not appreciate looks.

He couldn't remember. He tried to stay away from this general area. Why? Because he lived at the pitch and Slytherin table (near the mashed potatoes) general area.

Anyway. He ran through his hand through his still-wet-literally-just-jumped-out-of-the-shower hair. In his hand was a clipboard and a muggle pen. Why? Because Destiny was going to quiz him when he got home.

But if anyone asked... he was doing important people stuff.

He took a quick seat next to someone before looking at his clipboard. ... He forgot parchment. He elbowed the kid [To Anyone] he was sitting next to and pointed to his blank clipboard. Paper pleaaaaaase?

Yeah. He was... completely prepared.

Melody eyed the boy that had taken a seat next to her. Who was this guy. Anywhoo, he needed some parchment. She took some of hers and passed it on to him.
"Do you need a quail and some ink too?" She asked under her breath to him so she would not get in trouble for speaking in class that wasn't answering a question.

Susan was so excited they were going to learn about Winged Horses. They sounds really pretty. "If the winged horses can pull carriages with people in them while flying they would have to be pretty strong" Susan couldn't imagine try to pull something that heavy.

As more of her peers came in and crowded over the coati, Beezus casually drifted away and took a seat in one of the hay bales provided for them. Okay, so she wasn't lost. This is where the class is supposed to be held but still, there was no sign of their Professor.

Oh, wait. There she was.

Yes, she was late. Things got lost...? O.o Hopefully she wasn't referring to a brooch this time around. No need for last term's events to happen again. Professor Newlin didn't elaborate more on that though so maybe it was nothing harmful.

Introductions...Omg. Come again?! "Winged Horses will be the topic for this term." "Winged Horses will be the topic for this term." "Winged Horses will be the topic for this term." It was officially the start of an awesome term! They weren't even halfway to this lesson but the brunette was already hyped up for the next one where it'll be hands on.

Beezus stuck her hand up. "There are many different breeds of Winged Horses, Professor. And they are classified by the Ministry from XX to XXXX." So, some breeds were more fierce and dangerous than others. Will they be working on various breeds, or sticking to just one? If so, WHAT BREED? Abraxans? Thestrals? Meep!

Spying an adult joining them in the clearing, Dylan groaned. What was this? Board of Governors or not...It was getting creepy. Couldn't they learn in peace?

He felt his whole learning, creativity process was being disrupted.

The first chance he got, the Slytherin planned to throw something disgusting and slimy on his face.

It was the saddest thing in the world that the coati left, but it was AMAZING that it just wandered off at the professor's direction. Also, it was nice to see the professor was so good with animals, when the professor at Beauxbatons had been terrified of anything bigger than flobberworms. And she also hadn't liked flobberworms.

But as sad as it was to see the coati leave, it was super awesomesauce that they were talking about winged horses. Because those were big, impressive, magical creatures. No flobberworms for them! "Some winged horses are the same size as regular horses, like Thestrals and Granians. Or I think Thestrals are, but I haven't seen one so I have to believe the books on that one. But then there are Abraxans, and they're like... as big as an elephant!"

Goodbye, coati. Alice much preferred the new topic, though. Winged horses? Hmm. Everyone seemed to be naming Thestrals and Abraxans and things. Wasn't there another, though? The lioness wasn't sure if someone had called it out already, but decided to try anyways. "Isn't there one.. called.. a.. an Athoenen?" No. No, it was something like that. "An.. an Aethenon? .. An Aethonan!" Yes. Finally. "They're.. like.. chestnut in color." Now. Alice had questions. Were they going to get to see one? Ride one, even? Adopt one and care for it all year long, because that would be awesome?

And. Was that a decent answer?

The walk from her hut to the stables was a long one.

Vanora really didn't know where Grise had gotten herself to, and despite searching the grounds, and even bits of the castle for her, the coati was just nowhere to be found. Of course, there were traces of the coati, like a few dug holes, which she hoped the groundskeeper wouldn't notice, and then there were other things a creature left behind, but not the creature herself.

At least there was no man, animal, thing eating plant this term. Grise would show up eventually.

And in the most unlikely of places, too. Vanora finally entered the stables from the back of the building, and simply stared at her pet who seemed far too happy to be surrounded by.. almost the entire class. And if it wasn't for the entire class, there would have been a few colorful words to say! She marched herself right up to the front and stood next to Grise, her finger already pointing towards the direction of the hut. Grise got the hint immediately, she was in trouble, and after giving the few students who were still around her an affectionate swat with her tail, she turned and ran from the barn.

Now then..

The creatures Professor lowered her arm and gestured everyone to find a seat. She had.. taken too long to start. "Sorry I'm late, but things happen and things get lost and.." No one cared. "For those of you that don't know me, I am Professor Newlin and welcome. And for those of you who do, welcome back. I hope you all had a good summer?" Not that.. that was invitation to talk about it. They could always go to her office if they did. "This term we're going to do things a little differently. Instead of having a different topic each lesson, we'll be sticking with one topic for the whole term. This lesson will be pretty basic, fast paced and probably boring for some. But next lesson will be hands on." So they could all wipe those mopey looking looks off their faces.

She trusted they could keep up with taking notes? "Winged Horses will be the topic for this term. Who can tell me what they know about them? One answer per person, please." Because she didn't want to listen to one person rattle off the entire Winged Horse section of their text book.

Eliza was excited for a new term of Care of Magical Creatures, especially since this lesson had started off with an adorable fuzzy friend sitting at the head of the class to welcome them. As she sat on her decorated bale of hay, of which she was very grateful for, she listened to Professor Newlin begin. No hands on this lesson? That's too bad, she thought to herself, but tried not to show her disappointment. She wasn't too sure about sticking to one topic all year long either, but she supposed she would get used to it. After all, it could be good to have something long lasting and stable, even if it did go against some of her own basic nature.

But when she heard the topic was to be all about winged horses her ears perked right back up. Winged horses?! I hope we get to ride them!Though she had no idea how to do so, she suddenly pictured herself soaring through the air on the back of a friendly flying horse. But what facts did she know that hadn't already been said?

She raised her hand and tried to be creative, "Winged horses most likely need lots of room to be comfortable. Their favorite areas might be places like open fields so they have room to run and fly and graze." She put her hand back down and hoped that would be an acceptable addition.

The coati had seemed to get everyone’s attention, which only bothered Kendall a tiny bit. She’d still gotten there almost first, and the animal had at least seemed to enjoy the strawberry she had offered it. Therefore it hadn’t gone to waste, and she’d sat back on her hay bale as Professor Newlin had finally arrived, and greeted the woman with a bright smile. Class had seemed to get moving quickly enough that a true return greeting wasn’t possible, but the least she could do to answer the question about how her summer had been was smile. It had been awesome, of course, and as the subject of the term’s lessons had been announced, she hadn’t even minded the fact they would be learning about the same thing all term long. That was the same as in Herbology, after all, except for the fact they were going to be studying something way cooler than ecosystems and swamps. They were studying winged horses, and she sat straighter as people began offering answers to the first question, eyes sparkling the tiniest bit more than usual.

There was really only one aspect of the lessons she was curious about, after all, and unfortunately, her earlier thoughts of Midir had gone by the wayside after the new development. She figured her little fire crab had been well taken care of over the summer, after all. Professor Newlin wouldn’t have allowed otherwise, and she raised her hand along with everyone else. “Aethonans are the most popular breed of winged horse here in Britain and back home in Ireland, but there’s a colony of Thestrals here in the Forbidden Forest. Some of them have been tamed enough that they pull the carriages that take us from the train station here to the castle,” she offered. Nobody had seemed to have mentioned that yet. And are we going to get to ride winged horses?, she added silently. That was the important question, and they’d been told that the other lessons were going to be more hands-on. So maybe it was possible for her to finally accomplish that goal.

Sarah was glad that the teacher had finally came. She knew about winged horses,so she raised her hand yet she had to keep on getting a new thing to say as everyone else jept on saying the things she wanted to say. "A breed of winged horses, popular in Great Britain and Ireland is the Aethonan which is chestnut in colour, THey have been seen also out of the said places." Sarah's hair was chestnut. Which meant of the two different kinds of browns, it was part of the reddish brown as opposed to the blackish brown.

She hoped she got to ride horses. She liked to do that, as they had horses back home on the farm.

Winged horses, hm? Well, this is interesting. If they get to ride one, then Newlin would be officially his second favourite professor. Just saying.

So what does he know about winged horses? Mordred listened to what the others had to say. Well, he's with a bunch of smartypants in here, so it was almost impossible to throw in a good answer.

"They fly, obvioulsy." The Slytherin kept a straight face and raced his hand to answer the professor's question. "They require forceful handling." He wasn't sure about the other types of winged horses, but given their size they must be handled with a great amount of strength.

Alex tried to reach in to the deep parts of his memory to find a fact that hadn't been said about winged horses, but he couldn't concentrate for whatever reason. He was running low on coffee so he hadn't had enough caffeine this morning and it was effective his brain. Blehhhh. Still, he wanted to say SOMETHING for the sake of his grade. His hand went in to the air.

"They usually drink whiskey, right? Or at least some of them do?" he was pretty sure he'd read that somewhere once.

Dylan smiled when he heard they would be talking about winged horses, man they were awesome! He had to say one thing about them? well he only knew one thing, they were racers.. fast flying racers! thats all he knew and thats all he wanted to know! "They get raced professor! I went to this umm." what was that breed name his Uncle AJ had taken him to see, oh yeah! "Granian race, and man could they fly professor! They looked so awesome just flying past you so fast" they had gone so fast he had actually decided that he wanted to ride one then and there, but his uncle AJ had said to wait until he was grown up. Well he was grown up now! so he could ride one now.. oh yeah.. he was a second year.. and he was so telling his uncle to let him ride one the next time they went to the races. He then didnt listen to anything anyone else said, or even notice that there was a strange man in class.. like there had been in many classes.. cause he was just remembering that day not long ago that his uncle had taken him to a Granian horse race.

Winged horses! Penelope knew about these. Atticus had told her lots of things since he had worked with them for years. And now she would get to work with them? Not now, it seemed like, but at some point during the term. This ought to be fun.

But right now, she should focus on answering the question. Though...the one that popped into her head sorta watered down the brief excitement she'd felt at the mention of the topic. Still, she raised her hand. "Not everyone can see all the different breeds of winged horses, since one of them - thestrals - can only be seen by certain people." She wasn't going to say who though. She didn't want to get that specific right now. Hopefully none of them would have to...

Oh, good. The small child had some parchment. Perfect. He happily accepted the piece and slid it into the clipboard. He shook his head. He was good in the quill and ink department. He had a PEN! Pens were WAYYY more convenient.

Now... what were the talking about? He leaned backward and looked at someone's notes. Winged horses, eh? Did he get to ride one? Because he was pretty sure his wife would like that story.

And... just like he did when he was in school, he proceeded to draw a picture of a winged horse instead of taking actual notes like a normal person.

Kaiden's nose wrinkled a bit seeing the professor. What happend to the one he had last time he was here? And they were going to have a boring lesson. Well that was no fun. This class was supposed to be cool, not lame and all. Seeing the words appear on the board, he frowned. He didn't know ANYTHING about them. Raising his hand, he resisted the urge to just say they were horses and had wings, and said the only other thing he knew. "Lots of Muggle legends have a winged horse called pegasus."

Winged Horses? Alrighty then.

"Er...my dad once told me about Abraxans." And said that they might get one in their magical animal sanctuary. "They're reallllly big and powerful and they need forceful handling." Nod, nod. That meant that if they did get one in the sanctuary, she wouldn't be allowed too near it. Not that she was complaining. Being trampled by an Abraxan wasn't really her cup-o-tea.

Then of course there were Thestrals and Pegasuses too.

She was just naming Winged Horses. Not ones that she could be trampled by.

Sophie took a seat in a random place and pulled out some parchment and ink when she realised that would be a more... theoretical lesson. That was why professor Newlin seemed a bit... bored? No wonder. Practical lessons were way better!

Winged Horses. She took note. And an older guy was also there. It was weird having adults in Hogwarts classes, but that had been happening so often Sophie was getting used to it.

Focus! Ok. Disillusionment Charm! Good one! Winged Horses... "Um..." Oh, look! There was Mordred! "They... uh, I think there's always some sort of... technique, or something... to be able to ride them, right?" No one would simply jump on a Flying Horse's back and ride them whenever they wanted, could they?? Those creatures were HUGE and they didn't seem to be the friendliest ones ever...

Rawdon wasn't aware that the professor actually arrived at the lesson and continued to doodle in his notebook. Adventures of the stick figure Quidditch team hurling fire Quaffles at the helpless Keepers who use their wands to shoot wicked exploding icicles at them, he thought as he grinned at his talentless drawing. Then it dawned on him that his classmates were answering a question.

Ooo... something about winged horses. Might as well give it a go.

He raised his hand and hoped that no one gave the answer he was about to give. "The Aethonan is a breed of winged horse that is popular in Great Britain and Ireland."

Tiffany used to think that winged horses are the same as unicorn because both of them are unique and beautiful with their pure white fur. The only difference between the two of them was the presence of wings and...horns? Did winged horses have horns?

"There are...four breeds of winged horses,"she replied. "Including Aethonan, Granian and Thestral...right?" she wasn't sure about her answer indeed. Their names were actually hard to recite but still she loved this kind of magical creature.

Richard could not help smirking every time they did that. When the princess did that however, it looked adorable. The smirk on his face did not vanish even though his offer was kindly refused by the princess. Well...well...well...apparently she preferred the Gryffindor guy...for now, of course. Or probably she just did not want to be rude to the guy as he had been the one offering her a seat first. Very well...Richard gave the younger Slytherin a nod that said 'okay' and turned his attention on the professor.

Really? Wow...it was like the professor had been reading his mind or something. Thank Merlin it was winged horses instead of unicorns. Winged horses were not girly like unicorns so there would no threat for him like seeing pink things, probably unicorns, in his dreams. That could be a nightmare actually...

...whatever.

What did he know about winged horses? Hmmm....this class was not Herbology so he had to know something. As the others gave different answers, he tried to find what he had in mind about them. Pretty much what the others said but what else? ''Well...professor, i guess they require regular, attentive grooming, right?''
