CREATURES!!

Which of the fantastic magical beasts were they going to learn about today?! DRAGONS??!! ACROMANTULA?? Ashwinders??

Jarveys?

Anything would be interesting to Aidan, really. But some WAAAY more than others.

His eyes widened in excitement when he saw the animal in the stable. WHAT WAS THAT??!! Was THAT what they were going to be learning about??!! The boy made sure to grab a seat close to it.

The first class of magical creatures how could he miss this one. He was very excited to see which animal they would he handling this term. Strangely he had an interest for magical creatures. It made him think, which was very rare, according to his mother. But any which ways he was here and ready to learn.

So without thinking where he was gonna sit he just took one of the seat looking thing and waited for the class to start. He tried to ignore the creature in front of him, but he couldn't it looked so cute kind of. Should he give him or her something to eat. It looked kind of hungry to him. He started digging his bag for some cookies. No idea if it would like it. As he got one of his cookies in his bag he brought his hand forward for the animal to eat hoping it didn't like his hand better.

OOC: Guys. Guys. Guys. I had a post all written up for yous, a long post, too, replying to everyone. But SS ate it. SS gobbled it all up and didn't save any of it for me. Accept my apologies for not wanting to retype it? Please? Please!? *glomps you all*

Grise liked all the food and the pets and each and every one of you.

The walk from her hut to the stables was a long one.

Vanora really didn't know where Grise had gotten herself to, and despite searching the grounds, and even bits of the castle for her, the coati was just nowhere to be found. Of course, there were traces of the coati, like a few dug holes, which she hoped the groundskeeper wouldn't notice, and then there were other things a creature left behind, but not the creature herself.

At least there was no man, animal, thing eating plant this term. Grise would show up eventually.

And in the most unlikely of places, too. Vanora finally entered the stables from the back of the building, and simply stared at her pet who seemed far too happy to be surrounded by.. almost the entire class. And if it wasn't for the entire class, there would have been a few colorful words to say! She marched herself right up to the front and stood next to Grise, her finger already pointing towards the direction of the hut. Grise got the hint immediately, she was in trouble, and after giving the few students who were still around her an affectionate swat with her tail, she turned and ran from the barn.

Now then..

The creatures Professor lowered her arm and gestured everyone to find a seat. She had.. taken too long to start. "Sorry I'm late, but things happen and things get lost and.." No one cared. "For those of you that don't know me, I am Professor Newlin and welcome. And for those of you who do, welcome back. I hope you all had a good summer?" Not that.. that was invitation to talk about it. They could always go to her office if they did. "This term we're going to do things a little differently. Instead of having a different topic each lesson, we'll be sticking with one topic for the whole term. This lesson will be pretty basic, fast paced and probably boring for some. But next lesson will be hands on." So they could all wipe those mopey looking looks off their faces.

Pulling out her wand, Vanora tapped it against the side of the chalkboard. Two words appeared and.. that was all that she was going to use the board for. She trusted they could keep up with taking notes? "Winged Horses will be the topic for this term. Who can tell me what they know about them? One answer per person, please." Because she didn't want to listen to one person rattle off the entire Winged Horse section of their text book.

Jory thought this topic didn't sound too bad. He raised his hand. "Disillusionment Charms have to be placed on them regularly by those who own them,'' he said.

Christmas thought and raised her hand and said "Winged Horses can fly"

Theo was boooored with waiting, but eventually, the professor decided to show up. He pressed his eyebrows together at the topic of the term. What did this badger in front of him have to do with Winged Horses? But okay, he wasn't gonna start getting sassy about that.

What did he know about Winged Horses? Hmm... other than that they had wings? "There are many different kinds of them, like Thestrals and stuff." Theo'd never seen a real Thestral, but he'd learned all about them just recently actually. They were quite cool indeed.

Winged horses? And like, they were going to get to fly them eventually RIGHT? Surely? Or even better maybe they'd get to RACE them. Bet on them. Which led West to his answer, he put his hand up, "Racing." Okay that needed elaboration.

"Like, Wizardkind have been racing different winged horses for centuries and gambling on the outcomes. Laurentia Fletwock was a famous breeder and racer of winged horses. My aunt Linda's old boyfriend or ex-husband or whatever --I lose track on account of she gets married a lot-- he works at the ministry in Games and Sports and likes betting on the Granian races best on account of they're so fast and all." He'd also said if you win lots of galleons, you win lots of ladies, but who knew if that part was true? Chevron Wilkes never really seemed to have all that much of either, from what West had seen.

Winged horses..... Daichi immediately thought back to his third year when he had seen a Thestral in the forbidden forest. Yes the now Prefect had sneaked in to the forbidden forest that year. A small smile formed on his lips when he remembered the old Care of Magical Creatures, Professor Williamson before her had told him and his friends to get OUT OF THE FOREST...

He also remembered what the Professor had been doing that time and that was feeding those scary black winged horses. "Professor , i saw a thestral once , professor Williamson was feeding it meat so i guess that those winged horses like meat very much"

Or was that not what was asked? mweh

Belle saw the professor. She looked a little flustered but being a teacher can be hard. Then they were on the topic of winged horses. Hmm..interesting topic to stay on for all term. Then Professor Newlin asked about what they knew about winged horses.

Belle raised her hand, "Professor i know people who own them used winged horses to compete in races."

Wade perked at the arrival of the Professor.. Newlin? Hmm, she was very pretty.. That made it easier for him to pay attention now, as he took out some parchment for notes. At least this will be the only day to do that, looking back up to see on the board, Winged Horses.

Wade rose his hand, "They're used to help pull carriages for people."

Awwww. It looked like Grise was in quite a bit of trouble judging from the look on Professor Newlin's face and the small blonde smiled a little at the creature as it left the stables. She wondered what kind of punishment would be befitting for a coati. Hmm. It was definitely something to think about.

Also something to think about, WINGED HORSES! This was really cool because Ella knew a bit about the subject and she knew that Keefer's family had a bunch of winged horses, yeah? Or at least she was pretty sure he'd told her that once.

What did Ella know about winged horses? Well...there were quite a few things but she decided to try and add something new to the discussion. "Professor, going off what Belle said about the racing...well the Granians are grey winged horses and they're known for their speed."

Elise blinked a little bit. What horses? Oh, right. Winged horses. She probaly needed a hearing aid. But that wasn't true. She just needed to pay far more attention. Yup. So Winged horses, right? Elise didn't know much about them, except that they had wings.

And that's exactly what she said. "They're horses with wings?"

Well, she was there to learn, right? Right.

It was about time Newlin arrived. Kat watched as the CoMC Professor entered and gave her a small smile. So... like, they can totally start the lesson now. No time to be wasted. Okay so... winged horses?

Kat had seen Thestrals before. During her birthday, when West brought her to the Forbidden Forest. Yeah, they weren't caught and it was all cool. But Thestrals seemed to be a common answer. "Abraxans are winged horses, Professor," Kat had said. "I do know that they pull the carriages of Beauxbatons Academy of Magic in France." She did have friends from that school, I guess. 'Tis all.

Alyssa thought for awhile as the other students gave their answers. What about Hippogriffs? They were part winged horse part eagle weren't they. Did they fall under the category of winged horses too. Alyssa decided not to risk using that answer, especially since she really didn't know this new Professor and didn't know how she would react to her mixed answer.

So she raised her hand and answered. "Professor many of the other students have said that the Abraxans carry carriages and especially the contingent from Beauxbaton Academy during the Tri-Wizard Tournament. I believe that the Abraxans that were used at that Academy only fed on single malt whiskey. Is that all they eat?" Alyssa was interested to know.

Laura looked at the Professor and smiled, "Well they can fly." That was all Laura knew about them, that was why they were called winged animals right, because they could fly.

Ethan was watching the cute little coati from his seat as other students surrounded her.. they obviously thought she was pretty cute as well. He soon directed his attention to Newlin as she walked in and he chuckled as the coati ran off at her gesture. Glancing up at the board and the words that appeared there, the sixth year slowly grinned. Winged horses? He knew plenty about them..

Raising his hand, Ethan eagerly offered, "My family has two Abraxan mares.. Hestia and Ophelia are their names.. They're relatively mild as Abraxans go.." as they were known to be a bit forceful "..but my father had to take special training course before he could get a license to own them. Since they're classified as, um.. XXXX, I think.."

Winged horses? Oh man, they were so pretty. Horses were such beautiful animals and they were going to get to play with them ALL term. That was so cool. Did that mean that were going to fly on them? Merlin, they should totally fly on them. It would be super Ancient Roman of them.

So she raised her hand and smiled, "There is one breed of flying horse called the Aethonan." They were chestnut in color and beautiful. Violet actually had some at her house.

Well, well, well... winged horses uh?

- They obviously have wings which means they can fly and... well, as they're horses, that means they probably are good at running and carrying carriages and things like that - Rachel answered the Professor's question, after raising her hand.

Melody smiled as she took her seat and listened to the teacher. She raised her hand, Isn't Pegasus a winged horse? I'm not sure if they are real or not like Abraxan or Thestrals... but if a Unicorn is real I don't see why not a Pegasus..."

The professor showed up and clearly wasn't happy with the animal posing for animal crackers in front of the class. Ellura held back a chuckle at the image and watched as the creature sulked off back towards the hut until the professor called the class to order to begin the lesson.

Winged...HORSES?!

Oh the professor had no idea just how happy she had made her with the chosen topic of the term. However all she knew about winged horses was what muggles called them...pegasus...and Ellura wasn't sure that was what the professor meant by what they knew. So she continued to sit quietly, or as quietly as she could with how excited she was, writing down various things other students spoke up about.

Oichi watched as the professor finally arrived. It seemed the professor was looking for the creature up n the professor spot. Oichi chuckled lightly as the professor reprimanded the creature. Soon after the lesson began and the first question was asked. How could a topic of winged horses be boring. Sure I already know about most of it but winged horses are still always cool! Oichi raised her hand and responded, "Winged horses are a category for a certain group of magical creatures which include: thestrals, abraxan, Aethonan, and possibly a few more. And ofcourse, they all fly", Oichi responded with a smile.

Winged horses. This was an easy topic. Sierra smirked to herself and then raised her hand. "I know that they're often times used for travel," she said. "We have a herd of thestrals right here at Hogwarts." Of course you couldn't actually see them unless you'd seen somebody die. "They pull the carriages that take us to the gates of the castle. Beauxbatons also visited here once or twice, and they came in on a team of Abraxans."

Nigel snapped out of his day dream the moment he heard the professor enter. He leaned closer to hear what the class was going to learn today.

Winged Horses did sounded interesting for a lesson. But Nigel did not know about the whole term. There was only so much you could learn about horses.

"Well if you own a winged horse. You are required by law to cast Disillusionment Charms on them."

That was one of the reasons. Nigel would never buy. One that would grow to be annoying after a while. If you forgot to take the charm off and now you have an invisible winged horse. Sounds like something in a comic book.

Minerva listened as class started. Oh winged horses this seemed interesting. She was able to get up close to two this summer which was so much fun. Ethan's Abraxan's were so wonderful. Minerva smiled at the memory, she hoped they got a chance to be near the Abraxan this term. Oh wait, was there more then one Abraxan at school. Her mind wondered to last term in this very spot and with out thinking she felt her feet jump up a bit.

Putting up her hand she focused on the lesson, "Professor, it takes practice to be able to ride on a wing horsed. Trust from both creature and wizard." Yes, she watched over the summer and tried to ride Ethan's, but it was difficult nothing like a regular muggle horse.

Her attention was drawn from the adorable creature when the Professor showed up. Awww...it was leaving now...Baaaaaaaiiiiii! She did a little waving thing as she watched it go.

"Hello Professor!" She greeted the Professor who wasn't here only a minute ago to receive her greeting.

Her eyes widened when she heard they'd be learning about winged horses this year. "Cooool! Do we get to ride them too at the end of the term?? Will we each get a winged horse to take care of--I promise I wouldn't lose it!!" Losing Kevin was an accident. The Fire Crab was small and stuff. No one could actually lose a winged horse....unless of course the horse got fed up and simply flew away.

That would be a bit hard to explain when she thought about it...

"If they like you enough they let you ride on their backs!" That's all she knew but that was fine because that's all she wanted to know.
