In the center of the largest room of the Library known as the 'Bookshelves,' a big mahogany pulpit has been put up for Board of Governors Secretary Ian Amoroso's use during the auction, since he is in charge. To the right of the pulpit, a long dark oak table with chairs has been put up for the use of certain esteemed guests and auction organizers like the Hogwarts Governors, Headmistress Truebridge, and School Librarian Leobald Kitridge, as well as few notable others. To the left of the pulpit, there is an average sized table where you, prior to the auction’s start, can browse the objects and items that will be up for grabs in the auction. On the floor, rows upon rows of chairs have been put up for the guests taking part in the auction to sit on. More will appear magically if there is a need.
Just inside the door, to the left, there is a big stack of paddles which everyone taking a part in the auction needs to grab or risk disqualification from bidding. The paddles are what you raise when you want to bid for an object, where your paddles number will be jotted down and later matched up with your name, bid, and prize.
Text Cut: Auction FAQ
Who runs the auction?
Board of Governors Secretary Ian Amoroso (Droo) is in charge.
Can anyone take part in the auction?
Anyone with a number pole can take part, regardless if they are 11 years old or 77 years old (and beyond!).
How do I place a bid?
There are two ways to place a bid on an object or person.
Option 1:
You sit in the auction audience and raise your paddle high enough to catch Amoroso's attention. He will note your bid by raising the price of the item.
Option 2:
You can’t take part in the auction on site at Hogwarts but would like to still place a bid on an object or specific person. You can do that via owl services, using a patronus or a two way mirror. Any outside bids will be taken and registered by the Board Treasurer Harold Lagerty.
What is the procedure when I want to bid for an object or person?
Mr. Amoroso will present the object or person being auctioned off with a brief description of the value of the item (or person). She will then open the bidding at a low amount so that everyone can join in and raise their paddle then as the bidding goes on. The more bids placed, the higher the price of the item. It is up to you if you keep bidding or not.
Example:
Auctioneer: "The bidding opens at one galleon. Do I have one galleon?" Bidder #7: "I bid one galleon." Auctioneer: "Two galleons, do I have two galleons?" Bidder #30: *Raises paddle* Auctioneer: "Very good. Three galleons, do I have three galleons?"
And so on and so forth until nobody wants to bid more money. The auctioneer will say something like, "Tiffany lamp for 40 galleons going once..." No one else bids, "going twice," still no bids, "going…SOLD to Bidder #37, the man in the red jacket."
Bidder #37's bid would then be recorded along with the price he bid and the item ticket number, and a new object or person will be presented. Bidding will start again.
Is there a maximum number of times I can bid for one object?
No, there is not. You can bid as many times as you want for an object as long as you have the funding to back your bids.
PLEASE ONLY USE GALLEONS
Is there a maximum amount of money I can spend in the whole auction?
No, of course not, but everyone bidding should of course have the funding to be able to pay for what they want, or Mr. Lagerty won’t release to you what you have bought at the end of the auction.
I won the bid for an object(s)/person(s)! How do I pay and get my object/reward?
After the whole auction is over you will need to seek out Mr Hops Lagerty to pay and to collect the object(s) you won. Mr. Lagerty will be near the front of the auction platform, so look for him there. If you have won a day with a person, then you will get contact information on that person so that you two can arrange when and where to meet.

Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
That girl had spunk! Kathryn liked her, but she loved her grandson and would teach these ladies and that handsome hunk a thing or two on just how terrible she can be when she needs to spoil her grandchildren. she shot the paddle #13 up once more "825 Galleons!"
Ivy saw that mischievous look on his face and it made her smirk. "Very funny," she said, amused. No, she was not a real assassin yet. And even if she was, she wouldn't tell him. Because... well, she would have to kill him, of course.
"Thank you," she replied, leaning back in her seat so he could get a better look. "It was rather expensive." And yes, she was showing off.
Her eyes redirected to those participated in the auction. If she wasn't waiting for something to be auctioned of, she probably would have left already. But there was an item she was waiting for. Hopefully people would stop being ridiculous and throwing their money out there like it didn't matter so Ivy could get it.
Funny, yes, he could be funny. Erik didn't bother to hide his own smirk for once and instead took a better look at her dress, since she seemed to be inviting him. He liked what he saw. "You haff fine taste, Ms. Knox, despite what the Daily Prophet says." Heheh. He rested his arm on the back of his chair and only took his eyes off her dress for a moment to see what was going on up front.
"One thousand." Erik calmly raised paddle 007 and then went back to talking to Ivy. "Vhat do you think of that silly fashion article, hmmm?" He was curious to see if she had even read it.

Sky may have gotten competitive now. She was not going down in this bidding war. She raised paddle 52 and said "1,500 galleons." She avoided looking over at Nerida's face. Who had been whispering for her to stop she didn't need it since the price got up to the seven hundreds... But Sky no longer cared about the price.. It was for the library.. A good cause after all.

Oh No no no no no no Young Miss, Kathryn was in full on Spoiling Grandmother mode she was going to get Oakey a vial of liquid luck even if her arm popped off while raising her paddle! and raising it she did indeed. "3,200 galleons!"
Ha ha now this was funny, this bidding war between women. And all Erik wanted to do was to up the ante.
He flashed his paddle again. "7,000." He could buy all the damn ingredients AND hire an expert potioneer to brew that one for him, but well...why not bid and have it now?
Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
OOoooh More Hadsome Gentlemen...except this one looked nothing like her Augustus. His nose was too large, he had the money though.
Good lad he must be. "9,100!"
No, Erik would not go above his lucky number for this. He was superstitious enough to believe that bought luck was only slightly more unlucky than stolen luck, and so he wouldn't have the Felix Felicis...this time.
He put his paddle down with a nod to the women. Let the Law Enforcement fools spend their last paychecks on a tiny vial. Fine. Their loss.

Oh no, granny! "15,000 galleons!" Roxanne cried, raising her paddle. And if granny went over that, then she would dump it on the old cow. Let HER explain why she couldn't pay for that hip replacement.......

Sky wouldn't stop you could say it was a flaw but she flashed her paddle anyway "20,000 galleons." Plus she would not lost to a granny... Though if the price got to high. Sky might just stop and leave it for the granny.

Have these girls never heard of retirement funds and to top it off her Son was a former Quidditch star! "22,000 Galleons!" She would have to dig into Harvey's savings of course but he'd understand.

Auctions... they were the nice, clean, quiet versions of what Salander is used to. Which unfortunately means he was a little bored since there was no yelling or waving frantically or jumping up and down when the winning horse crosses the finish line. or dog. or dragon. or whatever else.
He was slightly amused with what people auctioned off and bidded on, starting to think that maybe he should've tossed in a few baubles of his mother's or his ex, but suddenly there was that tiny little vial that got everybody baring their teeth and their shade of crazy.
... all that for liquid luck? He had to snort. He was just the kind of fellow that went with his guts and made his own luck.
But it was all now very amusing for the Astor heir. There was speed to the way people were anteing up the price tag. Wouldnt be hilarious if that thing was made of water or something. He eyed the people bumping up to over 20,000 galleons, desperately trying to keep the guffaw down....
Up goes paddle number 99"50,000 galleons." smiiirk.

Goodness me! Kathryn squeaked. Was Oakey really worth that much to get him this Liquid Luck? Couldn't he just have this Potions Mistress teach him how to do it?
She looked over to her Child whose eyes were entirely transfixed on that small little potion. Harvey will definitely understand. "75,000" Plus the money went to the Library how wonderful was that.

Okay, Roxanne was done. This was getting ridiculous! Plus, she kind of wanted to just sit back and observe just how desperate Sky-Light was for that stuff. Besides, she probably needed it, dealing with a certain difficult woman day in and day out.
Not to mention, she could just buy her own....

Sky looked down at Nerida who was on the edge of her seat she could tell she wanted it. "90,000" This would be the only thing she would get for that girl!
Nerida liked this whole spoiling thing... Though she had a feeling she should take Sky's paddle here pretty soon.

Paddle number 70 immediately fell. Where these people crazy? She wasn't going to spend over the equivalent 300,000 pounds just for a stupid vile of potion. She turned to Kaiden and asked. "So caped-person...you want some food?" She asked kind of deflected. "We can always spend half a year making Felix Felicis" she added under her breath.

So be it, Kathryn thought to herself. Oakey was a priceless boy, and would purchase the Moon if it meant he was happy! "105,000 Galleons!"
She just broke the first 100,000 galleon mark of the night. She felt so proud of herself for this, what a lucky Library.

Sky quickly raised her paddle and let Nerida say it this time, heck she might as well it was for her. "120,000 galleons" at this rate Sky would have just gone and gotten her the ingredients.. But didn't it take like forever to make it? And it was really hard to make? And Sky was no potion master...And she just about handed her paddle to the girl.

Her focus was no longer on anyone else, but the Auctioneer at the front. "150,000 galleons." She shot her paddle #13 in the air as high as she could raise her wee little old lady arm.

"100 Galleons" what raising it twenty galleons wasn't huge. Yeah it was but it was felix and it was worth it!

It'd be sooo cool to be lucky!" And do stuff with it. She hoped that didn't show in her expression or he wouldn't get it for her.
"Pleeeeease?" she added to sugarcoat it.
Xavier knew that look. His daughter was planning something, but...look at that cuteness. Peyton was his Achilles heel. He'd try and get it for her now and decide what to do with it later. There was no way he was going to let a thirteen year old who didn't like rules keep a potion with such power.
"105 Galleons," he announced, raising paddle 5 into the air.

He was about to ditch speaking with Mr.Murdoch to go and start biding on the potion when he heard GeeGee!
What was that nervous look on the boys face for of course she knew Oakey really wanted this potion. She wasn't sure it was allowed for him to have it at school but she raised her paddle #13 for him "190 galleons!" She would secure this potion for Oakey no matter what!
Did these young ladies not understand the usefulness of this potion it would be to her boy. 290! She Squeaked.

When the Felix Felicis went up, Aron chuckled a little under his breath and then leaned over to whisper in Seren's ear. "Maybe I should have had a stash of all that when I first proposed to you." Would have saved him year of chasing, yes?
160 galleons? 160?! HIGHWAY ROBBERY! That suit was worth at least 500 galleons not really as far as the astronomer was concerned. Did they not see the fineness of the threads used? The delicateness of the stripes? The fine silk that the tie was made from? DID THEY NOT?! Obviously or else they would have bid more on the suit. Yep. Still, 160 galleons was nothing to frown at - although he DID raise an eyebrow for the price that the goggles went for. Really? Just go to a store and buy those for much cheaper.
Oh....OOOOOOOOOOOOH! Now this was something he wouldn't mind bidding on - although his eye was on someonething else, but no harm in venturing a go here, yes?
Although the bidding was quickly getting RIDICULOUS. Meh, all for the good of the library, right? And it better be one HECK of a library once reconstruction was done with ALL this money the auction was pulling in.
Raising his paddle, paddle 42 - answer to the universe - Airey waved it around a bit. "305 galleons!"

Merlin! This was getting out of hand! He didn't even get to open his mouth and people were engaging in a bidding war. He was lucky enough to be aple to give 100 or 120 galleons to Hecate and she'd oblige.
"GOINGOINGONE!" He said and fast as he could. "Merlin's Gavel! Sold for 150,000 galleons, to the woman holding paddle 13 who needs more luck than we all know." Another one like that he could end the auctioning.
"Alright. Let's try bidding two items... a WWW Fireworks Variety pack, worth 40 galleon, donated by W. Roderick. Bidding starts at 20 Galleons. For you ladies, a basket of beauty products from Ellsworth, Inc. donated by Ellsworth Toussaint herself, worth 150 Galleons, bidding starts at 100 galleons."
ooc: Ok guys. Two things.
1. Please understand that there were people who really just wanted to RP bidding for the item, but now they couldn't because their character wouldn't go that high. If they had gotten that much they wouldn't have had to continue with the auction. This is for fun, so lets stick by you can only increase at a maximum of 10 galleons per bid...
If things go that way again, I may have to close the auction.
2. Now, in the interest of time, I'm going to start auctioning off two items at once and see how that goes. When you bid say something like "105 Galleons on the basket!" Or "Fireworks, 20 Galleons!" Lets see how this go!
Fireworks. Those were pretty awesome weren't they - but if she bought them here and set them off than things wouldn't go so well for her. See she needed to find a way to make exploding dungbombs and all those lovely things. Or order things from WWW without people seeing her right?
Paddle number 70 shot into the air. "25 Galleons for the fireworks" what? Fireworks were cool and she could send them to friends. Even if she'd just set them off inside of statues or something.
Keaira was in disbeleif at what people would pay for potions. Potions weren't worth anything to her. Unless they were beauty related. So when the basket came up she just had to get it. Really she'd run out of stuff and it was nice stuff....and if she got it that would be great. Paddle number 8 went right into the air. "105 Galleons for the basket..."
