In the center of the largest room of the Library known as the 'Bookshelves,' a big mahogany pulpit has been put up for Board of Governors Secretary Ian Amoroso's use during the auction, since he is in charge. To the right of the pulpit, a long dark oak table with chairs has been put up for the use of certain esteemed guests and auction organizers like the Hogwarts Governors, Headmistress Truebridge, and School Librarian Leobald Kitridge, as well as few notable others. To the left of the pulpit, there is an average sized table where you, prior to the auction’s start, can browse the objects and items that will be up for grabs in the auction. On the floor, rows upon rows of chairs have been put up for the guests taking part in the auction to sit on. More will appear magically if there is a need.
Just inside the door, to the left, there is a big stack of paddles which everyone taking a part in the auction needs to grab or risk disqualification from bidding. The paddles are what you raise when you want to bid for an object, where your paddles number will be jotted down and later matched up with your name, bid, and prize.
Text Cut: Auction FAQ
Who runs the auction?
Board of Governors Secretary Ian Amoroso (Droo) is in charge.
Can anyone take part in the auction?
Anyone with a number pole can take part, regardless if they are 11 years old or 77 years old (and beyond!).
How do I place a bid?
There are two ways to place a bid on an object or person.
Option 1:
You sit in the auction audience and raise your paddle high enough to catch Amoroso's attention. He will note your bid by raising the price of the item.
Option 2:
You can’t take part in the auction on site at Hogwarts but would like to still place a bid on an object or specific person. You can do that via owl services, using a patronus or a two way mirror. Any outside bids will be taken and registered by the Board Treasurer Harold Lagerty.
What is the procedure when I want to bid for an object or person?
Mr. Amoroso will present the object or person being auctioned off with a brief description of the value of the item (or person). She will then open the bidding at a low amount so that everyone can join in and raise their paddle then as the bidding goes on. The more bids placed, the higher the price of the item. It is up to you if you keep bidding or not.
Example:
Auctioneer: "The bidding opens at one galleon. Do I have one galleon?" Bidder #7: "I bid one galleon." Auctioneer: "Two galleons, do I have two galleons?" Bidder #30: *Raises paddle* Auctioneer: "Very good. Three galleons, do I have three galleons?"
And so on and so forth until nobody wants to bid more money. The auctioneer will say something like, "Tiffany lamp for 40 galleons going once..." No one else bids, "going twice," still no bids, "going…SOLD to Bidder #37, the man in the red jacket."
Bidder #37's bid would then be recorded along with the price he bid and the item ticket number, and a new object or person will be presented. Bidding will start again.
Is there a maximum number of times I can bid for one object?
No, there is not. You can bid as many times as you want for an object as long as you have the funding to back your bids.
PLEASE ONLY USE GALLEONS
Is there a maximum amount of money I can spend in the whole auction?
No, of course not, but everyone bidding should of course have the funding to be able to pay for what they want, or Mr. Lagerty won’t release to you what you have bought at the end of the auction.
I won the bid for an object(s)/person(s)! How do I pay and get my object/reward?
After the whole auction is over you will need to seek out Mr Hops Lagerty to pay and to collect the object(s) you won. Mr. Lagerty will be near the front of the auction platform, so look for him there. If you have won a day with a person, then you will get contact information on that person so that you two can arrange when and where to meet.

Alyssa glanced at the necklace before leaning over to whisper in her father's ear.
"Dad that would look nice around grandma's neck. Why don't you bid for it." Alyssa suggested to her father.
James turned to his daughter rubbing his chin while considering the suggestion. "You are absolutely right about that. Either that or we could auction that off at our next fundraising gala to Save the Whales." James nodded. Raising his number 11 paddle, he called out, "55 gallleons."
Ivy gave up. She didn't normally give up, but that other woman was too persistent and that was too much money for used jewelry. Even if it was Chanel. Ivy decided she would go shopping after this auction for new Chanel jewelry, for the same price as she almost just spent due to her competitiveness.
She almost didn't notice Erik until he sat down next to her, just as the other woman won the bid... "Are you offering?" she asked slyly as he leaned in. She was a rather independent woman, but she surely would not be opposed to an attractive man buying her jewelry.
Her attention then turned to that long-haired man bidding on a rather hideous octopus brooch. At least she had better style than he did. And now they were bidding off Professors? How interesting...
"Perhaps...if something happens to catch my eye..." Erik took a long look at Ivy, than an equally long look at the Arithmancy professor being bought and sold like chattel.
He shook his head. No, she was not worth his galleons. He waited for the next item or person to come up and took interest when Ivy started bidding again.

But Ivy's attention redirected when the Auctioneer showed off the crystal necklace. Her eyebrows raised. That was beautiful... Too bad it wasn't diamonds. 45 galleons was a decent price, but much more than that would bee too much for just crystals. She was willing to bid, though. She raised paddle number 27. "45 galleons."
"45 galleons for a necklace?" Erik said toward Ivy, and then raised his paddle with a wink. Someone else had jumped in on the bidding now, so it would have to be, "60 galleons." He made certain the auctioneer could see paddle 007.

Wade had been waiting in between two chairs that were close together, with the paddle number 16, resting in his closed fist under his folded arms as he watched the auctioned items being sold one by one. Where was he? Wade thought, tapping his feet for quite some time.. until he felt a hand on his right shoulder. Wade brightened as he looked up, "Dad, you made it!" Holding his dad's hand before scooting over to let his father take one of the chairs to sit. Wade had been eyeing on quite a few items, and was glad his dad was able to make it in time before all the good stuff was taken.
Charely Potter smiled down at his son, lightly squeezing his hand before taking the now empty seat. It had been a long time since he last entered the halls, yet he still remembered where everything was like the back of his hand. "Sorry that I'm late son, you know how busy it gets around my break." Relaxing into his seat as he heard the next item to bid, Charely kept his paddle number 26 in his lap. Though Wade may have money saved, Charely wouldn't hesitate to help out his son if he came up short in the end.

Erik seemed to be staring at her quite intently, so she didn't break his gaze. She was still very curious about this man... Hm.

Ivy smirked when he winked and raised his paddle. There, now she had a man bidding for her. She wondered how much he would pay for that necklace. Before, she wasn't going to pay more than 70 galleons for it, but she would let him go as far as he wanted... Ivy continued to smirk and sat back in her seat and waited.
Oh, but since they were there... "Tell me, Mr. Vinteren, what do you do to keep busy?"

She was eyeing another piece of jewelry instead.
But first Professor Triple W!!
Ohhhhhh snap, his cover was blown. AGAIN!!!!!!! Geez, didn't these kids have more things to do than stalk their former professors?!
William didn't even want to know how many chairs Alyssa had had to stand on in order to tap him on the shoulder. He just knew that she was BLOWING his COVER and now he just looked like a dumb grown man in a dragon costume.
Unless... he didn't answer to his name being called? Yes, he could do that. He could not be who she thought he was! AHA! BRILLIANT, William he was BRILLIANT!
The dragon!man simply shook his head at the Hufflepuff girl. Nope, sorry child, he was not It today.

But he also didn't want to be standing in the middle of the room just.. standing there. There was also the food area he could go to, but could he bid from all the way over there?
He was in a dilemma! He didn't know what to do! It was a good thing that tail of his wasn't really connected to his body.
"Of course I know I have a tail." He grabbed a random paddle from off the table, a paddle that just so happened to be number 41 before turning around to grin over at Cece. "It's cute, right?" Because.. tails were cute, apparently. And by the look of the huge dragon costume that was heading their way, he wasn't the only person to think that.
Waylon simply raised his eyebrows, and didn't even say anything as both him and Cece were bopped over the head with the dragon's paddle. Instead, he just raised his kingly scepter and bopped the dragon right back before he started moving away. William was going to suffocate in that costume, wasn't he?
And just because he could, Waylon bopped Alyssa Potter on her head as well..

What the...?!
WHY was that dragon HITTING her on the head? And WHY was that Potter kid butting her nose into Cece's business here? "Miss Potter, turn around and mind your own business over there. No one here invited you into our conversation child." Seriously, the child needed to learn NOT to bother adults when they were talking, or when they were getting hit on the head by an unknown dragon.
She looked back towards the dragon... who couldn't be William. He would have told her he was going to be here tonight, right? "If you're a student in there you can expect a detention for hitting me like that." If not, well...
Oh wait, Waylon was walking away, but not before he hit the dragon and that nosy Potter kid. He should have hit her harder... just because he could. That would serve the brat right or interfering here.
Grabbing his arm she pulled him back. "Just where do yo think you're going mister?"
Hehehehe he'd started a cycle of head-bopping, even if he did get bopped back. Grinning inside his costume, though no one could see his face and thank Merlin, too, because it was HOT in HERE, William raised his paddle again in case the Evil Healer thought of bopping him back.
Oh it was so fun to tease her when she didn't know who he was. "Not a student," dragon!Willy grunted, making an overly lame effort to disguise his voice. He didn't really have to do much, though, as the costume garbled anything intelligible he tried to say anyway.

Plus, if he did decide to sit, which was becoming more likely since the auctioneer was starting to auction off Professors, it would be kinda hard with it on, when well.. Cece got all Cece on Alyssa Potter and William. Although, if Cece thought that that was a student in that dragon costume..
.. maybe that wasn't William at all.
And even if it was student, he didn't think a little bop on the head deserved detention! But he wasn't going to say that. Nope. He was just going to try and sneak away, which he thought he was doing a good job of doing until.. he was pulled right back next to the Healer. Just where did he think he going? "NOWHERE!" Because that needed to be yelled.
"I'M GOING NOWHERE AS WELL," William sort of... jumped in and interrupted the flirtaaaaaations going on between his two best friends. What? Waylon had shouted. Shouting was cool. Couldn't he shout too? He didn't want to not be invited to the shouting party.
Never mind that he'd probably blown his cover... again.

Alyssa turned to grin at her father. "Looks like someone wants that necklace just as much as we do, Dad." Alyssa knew that her Dad strived on competition.
James frowned at his daughter before raising his Paddle 11 again."70 galleons." he called out loudly before turning to his daughter and giving her a wink.

Alyssa looked up to see who had bid higher than her dad. She seemed to be sitting next to Oakey. Alyssa wondered what her father would do next.
James frowned when a woman outbid him. 'Nope I need that necklace. It's going to a good cause.' he thought to himself. Raising his paddle 11, James called out again. "105 galleons!!"

If she wasn't smirking before, then she definitely was now. Truthfully, there were numerous reasons she volunteered herself for the auction, namely, because it was for a good cause. But a small part of her had wondered how her husband would react, and seeing him protective or jealous was just too much fun. "If I want them?" She repeated, contemplating the possibilities. Unfortunately it wasn't something she would get to wear very often. It would be wasted on her. "Mmm... no, I think we can pass on those." Even though they were shiny.
Smirking just a little, Aron resisted the urge to plant a soft kiss on his WIFE's lips. Seeing as her students were all over the place, that might not be the best thing to do as her students would never let her live it down and potentially bring it up in all here lessons and then she would be forced to talk about him and...
Oh...wait...maybe that wasn't such a bad idea...
However, just as he leaned in to do so the auction moved on to something else. A necklace...a really really nice one at that.
Not even asking Seren if she wanted it - instead already imagining her in it on a rather fancy and elaborate anniversary dinner and trip - Aron raised Paddle 23 high into the air and waved it around a little bit just to make sure to get the auctioneer's attention. "120 galleons!"
Expensive? Very much so. But he had received a bonus at work and his wife was worth it and he may have momentarily forgotten that he was supposed to bid on her later in the auction Shiny things were almost as distracting as Fairy Lights.

James frowned. He was not going to be outbid but even if he didn't eventually win, he wanted to make sure that the library got as much money as possible. Raising his paddle 11, James called out again."135 galleons"
'Let's see you beat that.' he thought to himself.
Alyssa looked worriedly at her father. "Dad it's only made of Swarovski crystal. Let the guy have it. We can bid for something else that we can use for the fundraising gala." she tried to convince her father.
Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
What What What Did none of these people have any respect for their elders. That one young man there was clearly just trying to impress the young miss. She eyed him, I know all there is to know about young love and I know what your doing.Kathryn thought to herself been there done that. Then there was the man and his daughter. Why was this fellow buying his daughter expensive jewelry? Spoiled children never grow up right"136 Galleons!" she squeaked louder this time raising paddle #13

Yeah...Aron's paddle was staying down this time, which was a pity because it really would have been a fantastic anniversary gift to Seren - who probably wouldn't approve of him spending that much on her anyway, but he didn't care. 135 galleons was a bit too much - especially now that he remembered he was supposed to bid on his wife later in the auction - and he had an aquatic plant convention in America coming up that he also needed money for. 135 galleons was somewhere around $1360 at the moment. He would save his funds for when they got to auctioning off people. SIGH.
"Sorry, Poppy," he whispered as he reached for her hand and began to trace soft patterns over the back of it with his thumb.

Erik was quiet for a few moments, watching the old lady and the fatherly figure duke it out with their paddles. He shook his head when the old lady kept bidding and offered Ivy an apologetic shrug. "It's not even diamond," he said simply, keeping his paddle flat in his hand. No loss there. There would be others to bid upon.
And speaking of others... Erik's eyes were roaming the room again, as usual, until Ivy drew his gaze back to her with her question. He kept his face completely deadpan and answered her question with another question, though he was laughing a bit on the inside. "Are you asking me out, Ms. Knox?"
Why else would she need to know what he did to keep busy? Heh.

He'd talk to her if she turned around to find out who it was.

To say that Nate was amused was an understatement. He had just witnessed women in their natural habitat. This of course was anywhere you could find jewellery. The gentleman doing the auction was right...one should never try getting between them and the sparkly things they obsessed about. He also found it funny that they were willing to push the price so far without hesitation. Merlin. Couldn't they let a guy have a nice pair of earrings? At the rate they were going the library would be refurbished in no time. At least some good would come from these crazed females.
Lex looked around idly while she waited for them to put something that she was interested in, up for auction. The last item was just a dingy pair of earrings. She couldn't figure out why anyone would want those. Her eyes roamed around the room and stopped when she saw the nice candy man! "HAI!!!" She didn't know whether he'd heard her or not so she began waving her paddle around widely to get his attention while her grin remained in place.
"Merlin, Lex, put that thing down before they think we're placing a bid." Her father instructed, right before taking her hand and lowering it.

"One," Alexander corrected, "because she's the Puffer Head of House." At least Hecate was amusing him, because so far he had zero percent interest in the items that had been auctioned off so far. That might be because he could literally buy any one of them at the drop of a hat. He really should bid on something, though. After all, this was both his wife and his daughter's school. "You want anything?" he asked, directing his attention first to Hecate and then to Sierra.

James looked to see who had called out the last bid. He smiled and whispered so that only Alyssa could hear him. "You're right, we can bid on something else. I think that we've raised the price of the necklace high enough." he winked at his daughter.
Alyssa grinned and nodded. Yep the library now had more money. "Nice one, Dad." she winked back understanding his plan.

It was a strange thing, seeing Aron at the school, so casually dressed in costume. She wasn't complaining by any means. No. This was nice... it was just a pity it wouldn't last. Lacing her fingers between his, she gave his hand a gentle squeeze. She'd opened her mouth to day something when his other arm shot into the air...
WHAT?!
WWHHHAAATTT?!
120 Galleons?!
Seren's face registered shock. And it wasn't until she actually noticed the item that was being auctioned, that her expression changed to one of amusement.
"It's a bit much... isn't it?" she whispered. And it wasn't really the sort of thing she could wear very often.
SPOILER!!: Aron

He would save his funds for when they got to auctioning off people. SIGH.
"Sorry, Poppy," he whispered as he reached for her hand and began to trace soft patterns over the back of it with his thumb.
It didn't surprise her that Aron was in his own little world... caught up in the moment. It was a guy thing, or so she thought. "It's ok," she replied, giving him a soft smile. "... you can also make it up to me later." See. It wasn't the be all and end all. And the necklace, as sparkly as it was, just wasn't practicle.

"45 galleon from the lady with paddle number 27. Do I hear 50?" He asked right away.

"55 galleon! From the gentleman holding paddle number 11. Do I hear 60?" He asked again. "This is a worthy cause."

"60 Galleons to the man holding paddle number 7." He said and than pointed to the back of the room. "Do I hear 65?" he asked.

"You want anything?" he asked, directing his attention first to Hecate and then to Sierra.
"No, Captain... not now anyway." She said to her husband. "Maybe later..." she said holding his hand.
"Next item up for bid," he said and looked at his list... way too many jewelry items... let's skip around. "A pinstripe suit charmed to fit the wearer donated by Mr. Flamsteed... retails for 60 galleons." He said and then continued. "Do I hear 50 Galleons?"

Oooh, that was a nice suit. Mo gave it an admiring look, although he had to acknowledge there wasn't much opportunity for him to wear a suit like that, and his father already was the best dressed man in Great Britain.
No offense, Professor Fancy Pants.
"I like that suit," he offered casually to his mother, and when he didn't respond, Mo plucked the paddle from her hands. "50 Galleons," he waved paddle 3.
"Marcus," Cassandra reached for the paddle, but her song scooted over a chair until he was out of reach. It was too hard to catch him when she was laughing at his antics, and the President let her son be. Until he spent them out of house and home... that was less funny.

Alyssa looked at her Dad wondering whether he would look nice in the suit.
"Don't even think about it, Alyssa. Your Mom will throw it out the moment she sees it. Plus I don't know who would want to be seen wearing a suit like that." he whispered softly in her ear as he laughed.
Selena had been watching idly, unsure of exactly what she wanted. Then she saw the suit. Could she wear a suit? That looked like a very nice suit. And it was charmed to fit the wearer... that meant she could wear it too right? Immediately, Selena perked up and beamed.
"60 Galleons~" Selena called out, raising her paddle with the six on it. She wanted that suit. And if it didn't fit her... maybe it would fit her crup. Because whoever it was who said they wanted it for fifty galleons... yeah... no. Selena wanted it.

Charmed to fit the wearer, eh? Erik would have liked to know more about this suit, where it was tailored, what fabric it came from...but he would bid a few galleons on it.

Heh.
Ivy's eyebrows rose again. Those people simply didn't know when to stop. It was just crystal, and certainly not worth that much money. She nodded when Erik kept his paddle down. Smart move.
Well, Ivy most certainly did not expect that question. She kept herself composed even though she found his quick conclusion quite humorous. She moved her eyes away from his again. "If I wanted to ask you out, Mr. Vinteren, I would. Don't doubt that." She wasn't some silly girl who beat around the bush with those types of things. "However, and unfortunately for you, I was merely curious about what you do for a living." She held her paddle in her lap and watched the next auction start. Oh look, another suit for Erik to add to his collection.
Selena narrowed her eyes as she looked around for the person who had bid higher than her. LE GASP. NO. It was her suit. If it wasn't hers, it would be her crups. Either way, Selena was getting. She raised her paddle again.
"Eighty."
Hmph. Her suit. Everyone else could back. off.
