In the center of the largest room of the Library known as the 'Bookshelves,' a big mahogany pulpit has been put up for Board of Governors Secretary Ian Amoroso's use during the auction, since he is in charge. To the right of the pulpit, a long dark oak table with chairs has been put up for the use of certain esteemed guests and auction organizers like the Hogwarts Governors, Headmistress Truebridge, and School Librarian Leobald Kitridge, as well as few notable others. To the left of the pulpit, there is an average sized table where you, prior to the auction’s start, can browse the objects and items that will be up for grabs in the auction. On the floor, rows upon rows of chairs have been put up for the guests taking part in the auction to sit on. More will appear magically if there is a need.
Just inside the door, to the left, there is a big stack of paddles which everyone taking a part in the auction needs to grab or risk disqualification from bidding. The paddles are what you raise when you want to bid for an object, where your paddles number will be jotted down and later matched up with your name, bid, and prize.
Text Cut: Auction FAQ
Who runs the auction?
Board of Governors Secretary Ian Amoroso (Droo) is in charge.
Can anyone take part in the auction?
Anyone with a number pole can take part, regardless if they are 11 years old or 77 years old (and beyond!).
How do I place a bid?
There are two ways to place a bid on an object or person.
Option 1:
You sit in the auction audience and raise your paddle high enough to catch Amoroso's attention. He will note your bid by raising the price of the item.
Option 2:
You can’t take part in the auction on site at Hogwarts but would like to still place a bid on an object or specific person. You can do that via owl services, using a patronus or a two way mirror. Any outside bids will be taken and registered by the Board Treasurer Harold Lagerty.
What is the procedure when I want to bid for an object or person?
Mr. Amoroso will present the object or person being auctioned off with a brief description of the value of the item (or person). She will then open the bidding at a low amount so that everyone can join in and raise their paddle then as the bidding goes on. The more bids placed, the higher the price of the item. It is up to you if you keep bidding or not.
Example:
Auctioneer: "The bidding opens at one galleon. Do I have one galleon?" Bidder #7: "I bid one galleon." Auctioneer: "Two galleons, do I have two galleons?" Bidder #30: *Raises paddle* Auctioneer: "Very good. Three galleons, do I have three galleons?"
And so on and so forth until nobody wants to bid more money. The auctioneer will say something like, "Tiffany lamp for 40 galleons going once..." No one else bids, "going twice," still no bids, "going…SOLD to Bidder #37, the man in the red jacket."
Bidder #37's bid would then be recorded along with the price he bid and the item ticket number, and a new object or person will be presented. Bidding will start again.
Is there a maximum number of times I can bid for one object?
No, there is not. You can bid as many times as you want for an object as long as you have the funding to back your bids.
PLEASE ONLY USE GALLEONS
Is there a maximum amount of money I can spend in the whole auction?
No, of course not, but everyone bidding should of course have the funding to be able to pay for what they want, or Mr. Lagerty won’t release to you what you have bought at the end of the auction.
I won the bid for an object(s)/person(s)! How do I pay and get my object/reward?
After the whole auction is over you will need to seek out Mr Hops Lagerty to pay and to collect the object(s) you won. Mr. Lagerty will be near the front of the auction platform, so look for him there. If you have won a day with a person, then you will get contact information on that person so that you two can arrange when and where to meet.

Alyssa sat up to see who was holding paddle 3. It was Mo. 'What would a boy want with a bag?' Alyssa thought to herself. 'He must be buying it for his mother or his sister. Sorry Mo...I owe my mother a bag. The last one she had got drowned in the pond. Bags made of crocodile skin need to go back where they came from.' Alyssa laughed to herself.
Alyssa raised her paddle and called out,"Paddle 38 bids 105 galleons" Alyssa knew that it was a lot of money to spend on a bag, but the money was going to a good cause, so she decided it was worth it. Plus she had loads of birthday money that her family had given her in advance for her 17th birthday, so she decided that she might as well put it to good use.

The Headmistress slipped in to the auction area in time to see the bidding war on her lovely red purse. She had loved that thing, really, it had been through a lot with her. But it was time to move on. It was going to a good cause.
The redhead picked up paddle 52 and took a seat near the front. She didn't even bother to hide the wide smile on her face. 105 galleons for her bag! That was pretty impressive, no? Even if it was... two students bidding on it????

Mo did stand then, and his hand was going up when his mother caught his arm and helped him back into his seat. "Thank you, darling, but if you're going to be spending my money, let's make sure it's on things we really want. Let that girl have the purse."
Cassandra braved the sullen look from her youngest child.

"Dadddddddy, come on, come on, come on!!!" Lex pulled her father by his arm over to the auction area, hardly able to contain herself. This was where the galleon spending happened right? The place where they got stuff? "If you don't hurry we'll miss out on all the good stuff!" The girl snatched up paddle 18 and continued pulling her father. She wanted STUFF and the longer he took to move it was the more things would get SOLD.
Hey Alec was here, and so was Mo...who was trying to outbid Alyssa for a purse...uh-huh...
Paddle in hand she drew him all the way to the front. She wasn't exactly tall so she needed to be seen.
"Whoa, Lex, slow down. There's still plenty of time for you to get things!" Michael found himself stumbling over his own feet as he was pulled around by his 12 year old. He knew she was excited but this was ridiculous! He wasn't even so sure he should have been so happy about spending his money. He was trying to teach her the value of a galleon but it didn't seem to be working. With a sigh he took the seat next to her at the front. Please don't let there be too many things she might want!

Nate was always willing to help a good cause, especially when it involved him receiving something in return. Under normal circumstances he probably wouldn't have come to such a fancy schmancy thing at Hogwarts--those weren't his thing--but he had reasons this time so he figured he might as well participate in the main event while he was here.
The man grabbed paddle 10 and found himself a seat.
Now all he had to do was sit here and be entertained by the silly people who would be willing to pay sometimes as much as 5 times more for an item. He himself wouldn't fall into that trap unless something caught his eye.

"Next item up for bid, a pair of 18 karat gold quartz drop earrings and a vintage gold Chanel charm bracelet, donated by our own Annie Truebridge. These earrings with three faceted iridescent rutilated quartz stones are for pierced ears... they retail for 260 galleons. Let's start the bidding at..." He said and thought a moment. Oh but those earrings... she LOVED those earrings... why had she donated them again??? Still... it was for a good cause....
Annie shoved her paddle under her thigh so she wouldn't be temped to raise it. 230 galleons. That was a STEAL, did these people know that? A STEAL. She glanced over her shoulder to see what fashion-conscious women were bidding. Anyone who didn't want to be smeared by the Daily Prophet would surely bid... surely...

Alyssa clapped her hands jumping up and down with excitement on hearing that she had managed to win the red purse. Shen then realized that she was making an exhibition of herself and so quickly sat down quietly.
Oh her mother was going to be surprised when she got it in the OWL post. Alyssa smiled to herself before looking up to see what was being auctioned off next. When would they get to the goggles and the bidding of staff. She had already decided whom she was going to bid for? Alyssa grinned.

And there it was. The thing that caught his eye. He paused to marvel at it for a moment. Would his grandmother like it? She never was one to enjoy flashy things no matter how often he insisted that she spoil herself every now and then.
He eyed the red-head who tried getting in on the bid then raised paddle 10 quite high.
Bidder right here; pay attention.
"250 galleons!" He wouldn't let her have them when they would look so much better on his grandmother.

Upon closer staring at the pretty earings Charlie couldn't help herself. Clearly whoever donated those had taste. And taste was hard to come by.
Paddle number 21 shot into the air quickly with a flick of the wrist. "262 Galleons here," she smiled and hoped that it would start a bidding war. Really, she wanted it sure - but the library needed the help even more.

Goodness, those two children fighting over the red bag were quite ridiculous. Where did a girl of that age get that kind of money, anyways? Ivy let them play it out. She would find a different, better red leather bag...
Besides, those earrings and bracelet were gorgeous. Even if they DID come from Truebridge. It was Chanel, and Chanel was amazing. Ivy raised her paddle 27 high in the air. "285 galleons."

Keaira immediately approved of this girl - she didn't exactly know her but that was the point of being here. Luckily she was sitting close to the woman with Paddle number 8. "Its a wonderful bracelet isn't it?" She asked with a bright smile. "I'm Keaira by the way".
It was then that another woman raised her paddle and she just frowned. Really? Three hundred galleons. "301 galleons 5 sickles and 1 knuts" there have that. She added by raising paddle number 21.

Ivy was rather competitive, so she wasn't sure that she wanted to make friends with this woman who was trying to win the earrings and bracelet for herself. But since she seemed harmless for now... Heh.
These women were ridiculous if they thought any of them could pull off the earrings the way he knew his own Gran could. It was almost amusing to see them raising the price like that but of course he wasn't one to be outdone. Once again paddle 10 rose.
"340 galleons."
Then he smirked at them each in turn...or would a smile have been more polite? He'd worry about that later.

KING Waylon Murdoch, though, seeing as he was King of the Wild Things. And he had worked at Hogwarts long enough to know that there were indeed wild things there.
Plus, he really just wanted someone to call him king. That was all.
He slapped the name tag right onto his chest before digging.. in all the places he could to pull out his five galleons and his own copy of Where the Wild Things Are. Setting everything down onto the table once he found them, and only after he snuck a peek at what everyone else had already donated, the former Groundskeeper raised his scepter high over his head and marched himself over to the auction platform.
No, he didn't want those sandals.
Cece may have been looking at the groundskeeper's legs talking to the new groundskeeper but there was no way she could miss the cuteness of a former groundskeeper heading towards the auction area. He may have been dressed in a silly costume but she knew who he was. She would know Waylon no matter what he was wearing.
Following him to the auction area she stepped up beside him. "Hey there, did you know you have a tail?" she said jokingly as she lightly tugged on said tail.

Alyssa gasped in surprise when she saw Mr. Murdoch enter the auction room. Hogwarts's former groundskeeper! She wondered whether he was going to offer to be someone's date for a day. Alyssa crossed her fingers. She hoped that he did. She knew a lot of girlsstudents who would be happy to bid to have a date with him.

Xavier rubbed his hands together. It was time to bid on some stuff and have fun. He tapped his pocket, smirking slightly as the coins clinked against each other. He'd come prepared and right out of Gringotts too. GRIN.
Oh! Look! Alexa and her father were here too. Xavier grinned and waved in their direction. It was nice to see the kid somewhere else away from his precious gumball machine. The poor thing has already been abused plenty. Heh.
He then strutted over in his awesome vamp suit, Peyton in hand. Yes. He found her and this time she surprisingly followed him. It was evident she wanted something. He knew his baby too well.
Baltazar reached for the number 5 paddle and glanced down at Peyton. "Just tell me if you want something, okay, darling." And he'd get it for her. GRIIIN.
Peyton nibbled on her cookie allowing her daddy to tow her to where the bidding was taking place. She didn't mind him as long as he didn't call her baby or baby doll OR anything with baby in it. How was she supposed to impress Quidditch people if her daddy was going around calling her baby?
Uh. No.
She then beamed up at him. SCORE! Peyton already had her eyes on a few things, so she'd wait 'till then to ask for them. "Thanks, daddy!" She beamed wider up at Xavier. "Cookie?" And he took it.
So now both Baltazar's sat and waited for something to catch their eyes.

Sorry Waylon, couldn't resist.
Oh no! Was that Cece? And Waylon?!! William didn't want them to see him like this! Or... maybe he did. That had been his whole point in coming here, right? To see old friends? Contribute to ol' Hogwarts? Er?
He was caught between turning around and heading home and actually saying hi to his friends, so Willy ended up... just bopping Cece on the head with his paddle.
What? It was a way to say hi. Hi from that giant dragon behind you, yepppppp. Hi. Oh Waylon needed a bop too --- BOP! There. Greetings done.

"Merlin, men! Do not get in the middle of women and their jewelry!" He laughed and said "415 going once, going twice..." He waited a moment and called it. "GONE! To the lady with paddle number 20!"
"Next item up for bid. A solid gold octopus brooch, donated by E. Burke... whom I don't know BUT THANK YOU!" He said and then continued. "It retails for 30 galleons, but we'll start the bidding at 20 galleons." He said. "20 galleons, do I hear 20?"

Cooper had been waiting, biding his time... to BID! And this was it. The perfect item.
Sitting on the edge of his seat, with the excitement of a small child, Cooper thrust his paddle in the air. The number 33 waved frantically, fighting for the auctioneers attention. He wanted it. He wanted it so badly. "HERE! 20 galleons!"

Sky grabbed paddle 50 and sat down wondering where her goddaughter was. Her friend could not blame her for losing Nerida. It was not her fault! Thankfully no one had asked about her costume yet.. If they did they had to from out of space. She was Galadriel from Lord of the Rings...A genius book! She looked up just as something was metioned...Maybe Lucas would like that... Yeah maybe... She raised Paddle 50 into the air and said "23 Galleons,"
It took Nerida a moment to find her god mother...Figures she would be in the auction room. She grabbed paddle 100.. You know just in case she saw something adorable and that she wanted!! She took a seat next to her godmother uninterested in the brooch. But she was curious why her godmother wanted it...
Raelynn followed..What was the girl's name again? She had only met her when she had met the girl's mother in the hospital... Nerida...and her mother was...Oh goodness she was horrible with names. She grabbed Paddle number 4. Not even sure if she was going to get something but in case...Though she did not want that octopus brooch...Though it sure looked like that little boy with the thirty-third paddle did.

Cooper was ASTONISHED... someone dared outbid him!? and by 3! ... that wasn't even a decent bid. That was a petty bid. This was for a good cause... so they needed good money, and HE needed THAT brooch... it would look stellar next his mockingjay one.
"30 GALLEONS!" he said, voice raised in excitement. Paddle 33 waving frantically again.
