In the center of the largest room of the Library known as the 'Bookshelves,' a big mahogany pulpit has been put up for Board of Governors Secretary Ian Amoroso's use during the auction, since he is in charge. To the right of the pulpit, a long dark oak table with chairs has been put up for the use of certain esteemed guests and auction organizers like the Hogwarts Governors, Headmistress Truebridge, and School Librarian Leobald Kitridge, as well as few notable others. To the left of the pulpit, there is an average sized table where you, prior to the auction’s start, can browse the objects and items that will be up for grabs in the auction. On the floor, rows upon rows of chairs have been put up for the guests taking part in the auction to sit on. More will appear magically if there is a need.
Just inside the door, to the left, there is a big stack of paddles which everyone taking a part in the auction needs to grab or risk disqualification from bidding. The paddles are what you raise when you want to bid for an object, where your paddles number will be jotted down and later matched up with your name, bid, and prize.
Text Cut: Auction FAQ
Who runs the auction?
Board of Governors Secretary Ian Amoroso (Droo) is in charge.
Can anyone take part in the auction?
Anyone with a number pole can take part, regardless if they are 11 years old or 77 years old (and beyond!).
How do I place a bid?
There are two ways to place a bid on an object or person.
Option 1:
You sit in the auction audience and raise your paddle high enough to catch Amoroso's attention. He will note your bid by raising the price of the item.
Option 2:
You can’t take part in the auction on site at Hogwarts but would like to still place a bid on an object or specific person. You can do that via owl services, using a patronus or a two way mirror. Any outside bids will be taken and registered by the Board Treasurer Harold Lagerty.
What is the procedure when I want to bid for an object or person?
Mr. Amoroso will present the object or person being auctioned off with a brief description of the value of the item (or person). She will then open the bidding at a low amount so that everyone can join in and raise their paddle then as the bidding goes on. The more bids placed, the higher the price of the item. It is up to you if you keep bidding or not.
Example:
Auctioneer: "The bidding opens at one galleon. Do I have one galleon?" Bidder #7: "I bid one galleon." Auctioneer: "Two galleons, do I have two galleons?" Bidder #30: *Raises paddle* Auctioneer: "Very good. Three galleons, do I have three galleons?"
And so on and so forth until nobody wants to bid more money. The auctioneer will say something like, "Tiffany lamp for 40 galleons going once..." No one else bids, "going twice," still no bids, "going…SOLD to Bidder #37, the man in the red jacket."
Bidder #37's bid would then be recorded along with the price he bid and the item ticket number, and a new object or person will be presented. Bidding will start again.
Is there a maximum number of times I can bid for one object?
No, there is not. You can bid as many times as you want for an object as long as you have the funding to back your bids.
PLEASE ONLY USE GALLEONS
Is there a maximum amount of money I can spend in the whole auction?
No, of course not, but everyone bidding should of course have the funding to be able to pay for what they want, or Mr. Lagerty won’t release to you what you have bought at the end of the auction.
I won the bid for an object(s)/person(s)! How do I pay and get my object/reward?
After the whole auction is over you will need to seek out Mr Hops Lagerty to pay and to collect the object(s) you won. Mr. Lagerty will be near the front of the auction platform, so look for him there. If you have won a day with a person, then you will get contact information on that person so that you two can arrange when and where to meet.

Two hundred galleons for a sculpture? Come on now, it wasn't even gold. Did the kids know that? Well they wanted a bidding war and they were getting one now. He didn't even care to win anymore, he just cared to see them go broke.
"Two twenty," Erik flashed paddle 007 toward Amoroso without a second thought.

Why not. It could lead to her end in the campaign. So he smiled, but didn't take his eyes off the auction. "I think we can discuss this at more length, over drinks..." he mused to her. "If you're thinking vhat I'm thinking."
Hopefully she wasn't thinking of buying this hammer though. Erik needed it. And what's more, he wanted it. It was a knock-off relic of his personal hero. He hated how the auctioneer butchered Mjölnir's beautiful name...but no, this was his chance to rescue the hammer from the clutches of those filthy Brits.
"Twenty-five galleons," Erik called out loudly, raising paddle 007 with his outside hand, so as not to hit the lovely woman sitting beside him.

Charely who had little interest in the item, thought back on that luck potion. Yes, Auctions weren't for the poor, but clearly that was an understatement. His thoughts were interrupted when he felt Wade's paddle brush against his shoulder from enthusiasm. "Remain calm, son."

Charely turned to his son. Eighty-five? Just how much has his son been saving all these years?! His face remained blank though, to cover his surprise. If his son managed to get this item without any of his help, well.. Wade's going to get one mighty birthday gift in the near future from him.

Perhaps it was better if they didn't, the spoiled brats. "One hundred seventy-five galleons," he bid regardless. Erik glanced over his shoulder at the girl-child bidding behind him.

"Two eighty," Erik lifted his paddle with a note of finality in his voice. See why Hogwarts needed reform? Children like these.
"GOING GOING GONE! To the gentleman with paddle 7" He said frightened out at how fast the bidding war was going.
"I'm going to skip around here... Next item up for bid is a purebred hypoallergenic grey kneazle kitten, donated by E. Wellington. Perfect for people allergic to cat and kneazle dander. We will start the bidding at 10 Galleons. Who will be first?"
Lucas mood soared when he saw Willow’s eyes sparkle at him. "Junior cursebreaking is an exciting position definitely, something is always happening and you have to be ready for anything and everything." He said happily. "Isn’t that same for writers, I mean you never know what you are going to write about until something news worthy happens, right?" Lucas asked trying to wrap his head around his thought.
With Willow by the arm beaming Luke felt like the day couldn’t get much better except maybe if he won some items in the auction like a kneazle or something pretty for Willow. He wanted something more out of their relationship than just owls back and forth. There had been a spark between them on Fiji which he hoped they could have explored but worked put up hinders for them.
Picking up his own 90 paddle from the table Lucas steered them towards two empty seats next to each other. "I haven’t really decided but I might bid for the kneazle kitten, hippogriff ride and carpet. How about you, any items you want to bid for?"
A smile played on Willow's lips as he explained then asked a question "It sort of is." she said nodding "Sometimes we know what we're going to write about, but most often, we have absolutely no idea until something happens."
She loved being this close to him, it had been MONTHS since they were even near each other! "Maybe we could...I don't know...go to a late dinner this evening?" she asked shyly, flushing a little because she had asked him out. WHICH was so totally unlike her!
Awww! Kneazle kitten! "I was erm....hoping for the kneazle kitten, and maybe the pygmy puff." she said with another flush. "But if you want the kneazle I'll just bid on the pygmy puff."

Merlin did they just say the kitten??? Should she? But he wanted it! Well at least start the bidding...right? Hmm, someone else had bid 10... "20 Galleons!" she said raising her 46 paddle.

"What?" She said looking around the room for the headmistress. She tipped her black hat towards her. "I have no idea..."
"Hmm," was all Alexander said, although the wheels began turning around and around in his head. There was some reason this Truebridge woman didn't particularly care for his family, and although he'd need to think about it for a while, he was determined to figure out why.

Then she looked at the Minister of Magic and said "This is the History of Magic Professor," and one of the few people she considered a friend on staff, "and Deputy Headmaster, Dash Scabior."
"Ahh," Alexander said, shifting his bidding paddle from one hand to the other. He extended a hand to the man and said, "Mr. Scabior, it's good to finally meet you." Right? Yes. Of course he did. He shot the boy with a look, however, just to see if he did know. And if he didn't, he did now.
"Why aren't you yelling at him?" Waylon gently nudged Cece before using his scepter to POINT at the dragon she was now whispering romantically to. Point point point. "He yelled, too." Hmph. Waylon Murdoch. Always getting into trouble while no one else did.

He gave the Healer a small smile, and hoped she wouldn't kill him for it. "That's great, I'm glad your back. I'll defenitely send you an Owl if anything cool happens around school."
congratulations? Oh was he talking about his Prefecting! How did The Former Groundskeeper hear about that, did he speak to Professor Hadley earlier? "You're talking about me getting Prefect yeah?" Oakey said pointing to his chest where the badge would be if he weren't in costume. "It came as a total surpise to me. I didn't think I would get it..."
Wait...why hadn't he seen the Costume Dragon sitting beside the Healer, and for that matter the Healer seemed to be speaking to it with no problem, someone as evil as herself could probably tame an actual dragon with no trouble.
Did she say William? hold one give him a moment to piece this together...
Dragon costume + The first name William = A William that liked Dragons.
"Professor Williamson?" Oakey asked the Dragon, he should have seen him first being in such a crazy cool costume, but Mr.Murdoch would always top dragons in his book. Oakey had a story to tell him if that was truly the former COMC Professor under the costume.
It couldn't be though he should be in Romania helping Kurumi bake cookies for dragons.

Man he missed teaching here. Minus all the grading and disciplining of kids.
Cece looked between Oakey and Waylon in disbelief. Against her better judgement she had just defended the puffer kid to Waylon and all she gets is a small smile, if you could even call that a smile. "Right, joking." Whatever. It had to be a puff thing, seeing as how Waylon had once been one of those... rodents himself.
Someone please remind her why she was friends with him again.
Rolling her eyes she looked over at the dragon then back at Waylon. "I never yelled at you so why should I yell at him?" Seriously, she had only kept her voice low because she had a feeling Dragon!William didn't want others to know who he was.
Apparently she hadn't kept her voice low enough though because now Oakey had figured out who was in the costume. And, they were right, it was William.
A smile quickly spread across her face when William removed the dragon head revealing that it was indeed him. That smile disappeared just as quickly as it appeared though. He didn't even acknowledge her, let alone look at her, yet here he was looking up at Oakey and congratulating him.
Wow! William and Cece hadn't talked since their time together over the summer and now he wouldn't even look at her. "I'm just going to..." go find someone who would talk to her, "leave you three to talk. Come find me later if you want to." Yeah, that comment was aimed at you William.
Walking away she noticed the Minister and his family in the auction area. Her smile slowly returned as she approached them. "Hello Sierra. Got your eye on anything in particular you want tonight?" There had only been one thing Cece wanted but there had been no way she was stupid enough, or that desperate to get in that bidding war. Really, that potion was worth no where near the price it had went for. Besides, if she wanted it bad enough she was sure she could get Hecate to make it for her. She smiled some more at that thought. "Good evening Hecate. Minister, how have you been?" she asked looking towards both the professor and her husband.

Sierra had grown bored with the auction again. She'd lost out on the one thing she was halfway interested in, and then all the items that followed were of no interest to her at all. Who wanted to spend a day with the Astronomy professor? Sierra saw him all the time in class.
...but then, Uncle Ian spoke up again, this time announcing a Firebolt 600 signed by the Appleby Arrows.
SIERRA HAD TO HAVE THAT BROOM.

...but then, OH NO! Her mom wanted the broom, too?! Sierra couldn't bid on it now. It'd been claimed, and although the Slytherin in her had the instinct to go for what she wanted at all costs, a Greingoth stood by another Greingoth through thick and thin. The broom was her mom's.
Alexander looked at his wife with a pair of raised eyebrows. Of course she wanted the broom. Quidditch was held in high regard in their family, after all. "Of course you do," he said with a smirk. "It's all yours then."
He raised paddle 1 into the air. "10 galleons," he said.
When Emmaleigh heard the auctioneer man say the next item, she sat up a little straighter. That was, interesting. She rubbed her thumb down her paddle 43's handle before raising it "15 Galleons." Not that she could actually ride it or anything, but well, it was the Arrows, and Max's mom so yeah, why not bid.

Oooh an Appleby Arrows signed broom? Isn't that the team Erin used to play for?
Annie wanted it. It would go so wonderfully with her rare brooms collection in the corner of her office. "Twenty galleons," Annie raised paddle 52. Well she wouldn't go crazy over this broom or anything, if it got to be too expensive. Erin could always get her one of her own, right? Right.

Emmaleigh frowned at the headmistress's head as paddle 43 went into the air once more. "Twenty five." She actually sort of kind of wanted that broom. It was pretty.
The man nodded at the auctioneer. Of course he was going to enjoy it. Well, not him but his baby doll. He glanced around and found Peyton stuffing cookies in her basket. D'awww! She didn't know what he had gotten. He was sure this would cheer her up.
GRIN.
Oh. And now it was his turn. Xavier wanted that broom. Sure, he's an ex Falmouth Falcon, but an extra broom --signed-- never hurt anyone. Heh. "Thirty Galleons!" he raised paddle 5.
He hasn't done any biding and now that a broom was up for it, Kennedy Escalante thought it was time for him to join in. He grabbed paddle 59 and headed to stand next to his godfather. He sent Xavier a smirk and raised his paddle.
No, no, no. Emmaleigh frowned. That was such a pretty broom, and she could totally use it to practice her flying. It had to be lucky. Paddle 43 was raised, and Em simply said "40 galleons"

James rubbed his chin. They could sell that at the fundraising gala. So he raised his paddle 11 and called out. "50 galleons."
or not Em though, leaning back against her chair once more. She was pretty sure she could get her own Arrows signed broom for cheaper than that. She wouldn't be able to surprise Max by learning to fly on it, but she couldn't afford to bid any more, not on a broom she would probably just end up breaking anyways. Crossing her arms, she just sat there watching the others bid, and waiting for something else interesting to come up. Did these people just have galleons coming out of their ears or something?

Ooh, auction! Sounded fun! Grabbing paddle 39 on her way in, Aoife Farrell sat down in a chair, ready to bid. She was extremely interested in the jewellery, especially the particularly gorgeous pearl and diamond necklace. Aoife's immediate family wasn't especially rich, however her great-aunt Janice had married an extremely wealthy wizard who had made his fortune in racing broomstick manufacturing. They hadn't had any children so Aoife had spent her childhood buttering the couple up. She'd been the only benefactor of their will and had so far spent the money wisely on an apartment in London and some other necessities. But this necklace was heading up to be the first luxury she bought with her newfound fortune.
The last auction seemed to have been closed with 40 galleons. Aoife could see a lot of disappointed faces in the crowd. Apparently they weren't ready to bid so much for a ... what was this anyway? After listening around she determined that it had been a Kneazle kitten. Rather useful to be sure but a little too opinionated for her liking. She sat up a little in her chair, eager for the next auction item.
