In the center of the largest room of the Library known as the 'Bookshelves,' a big mahogany pulpit has been put up for Board of Governors Secretary Ian Amoroso's use during the auction, since he is in charge. To the right of the pulpit, a long dark oak table with chairs has been put up for the use of certain esteemed guests and auction organizers like the Hogwarts Governors, Headmistress Truebridge, and School Librarian Leobald Kitridge, as well as few notable others. To the left of the pulpit, there is an average sized table where you, prior to the auction’s start, can browse the objects and items that will be up for grabs in the auction. On the floor, rows upon rows of chairs have been put up for the guests taking part in the auction to sit on. More will appear magically if there is a need.
Just inside the door, to the left, there is a big stack of paddles which everyone taking a part in the auction needs to grab or risk disqualification from bidding. The paddles are what you raise when you want to bid for an object, where your paddles number will be jotted down and later matched up with your name, bid, and prize.
Text Cut: Auction FAQ
Who runs the auction?
Board of Governors Secretary Ian Amoroso (Droo) is in charge.
Can anyone take part in the auction?
Anyone with a number pole can take part, regardless if they are 11 years old or 77 years old (and beyond!).
How do I place a bid?
There are two ways to place a bid on an object or person.
Option 1:
You sit in the auction audience and raise your paddle high enough to catch Amoroso's attention. He will note your bid by raising the price of the item.
Option 2:
You can’t take part in the auction on site at Hogwarts but would like to still place a bid on an object or specific person. You can do that via owl services, using a patronus or a two way mirror. Any outside bids will be taken and registered by the Board Treasurer Harold Lagerty.
What is the procedure when I want to bid for an object or person?
Mr. Amoroso will present the object or person being auctioned off with a brief description of the value of the item (or person). She will then open the bidding at a low amount so that everyone can join in and raise their paddle then as the bidding goes on. The more bids placed, the higher the price of the item. It is up to you if you keep bidding or not.
Example:
Auctioneer: "The bidding opens at one galleon. Do I have one galleon?" Bidder #7: "I bid one galleon." Auctioneer: "Two galleons, do I have two galleons?" Bidder #30: *Raises paddle* Auctioneer: "Very good. Three galleons, do I have three galleons?"
And so on and so forth until nobody wants to bid more money. The auctioneer will say something like, "Tiffany lamp for 40 galleons going once..." No one else bids, "going twice," still no bids, "going…SOLD to Bidder #37, the man in the red jacket."
Bidder #37's bid would then be recorded along with the price he bid and the item ticket number, and a new object or person will be presented. Bidding will start again.
Is there a maximum number of times I can bid for one object?
No, there is not. You can bid as many times as you want for an object as long as you have the funding to back your bids.
PLEASE ONLY USE GALLEONS
Is there a maximum amount of money I can spend in the whole auction?
No, of course not, but everyone bidding should of course have the funding to be able to pay for what they want, or Mr. Lagerty won’t release to you what you have bought at the end of the auction.
I won the bid for an object(s)/person(s)! How do I pay and get my object/reward?
After the whole auction is over you will need to seek out Mr Hops Lagerty to pay and to collect the object(s) you won. Mr. Lagerty will be near the front of the auction platform, so look for him there. If you have won a day with a person, then you will get contact information on that person so that you two can arrange when and where to meet.

Kanna looked over to the other girl who was bidding and actually gave her a smile. An honest-to-god smile. She didn't know the other girl very well, despite being in the same house. Nevertheless, she was made happy by her enthusiasm. Made it a shame Kanna had to keep bidding. She was actually a little sad for a second. But the wanted this. SO badly.

A man with confidence, Ivy liked that. "Certainly," she replied simply. There was nothing more unattractive than a male who had no confidence in himself. Men needed to have backbones and hard skulls that she could break.
Ivy leaned a tad closer, but kept her eyes wandering around the room while the auction proceeded. "That depends on who the interested buyer is... And what they are willing to offer." She gave him a look before answering his next question. "Yes." Her answer was simple. Not to mention she had tried several times before actually succeeding. Thankfully she had gotten it right eventually because her supply of willing potion-testers was dwindling.

There was nothing else she could possibly want here. She was clearly unafraid of anything but someone having a.... ridiculous amount of money.
"Seventy Galleons! To the lovely lady with the number twelve paddle..." He said and then called out "Do I hear 75?"

Flamsteed was worth so much more, though. Plus the library. Yeah. The library.
ooc: we are allowing only 10 galleon increments, but I will allow this today as I forgot to put it in the first post.
"Ninety galleons! There we go," He said, "Going once..."

And -did he just hear...what he thought he heard? "Someone...just bid one hundred fifty thousand galleons for a vial of Felix Felicis." They could get it from the black market for 160 at least. If they had all that money to waste did they really need the luck? Dash rolled his eyes, already tired of people other than the ones at his side. The only good thing about that ridiculous bid was that it means more books. Picking up paddle Paddle 14 and Paddle 15 (in case she wanted her own), handed the second over to Althea. It was easy enough to find some seats in the middle.
Hecate had seen Dash... and in truth he was more fun than watching the weird man get auctioned off... though it was funny he was going for more than Hadley. "Jealous that something I made would go for more than anything you donated?" She said and smirked. Then she turned to her husband and said "Dash, this is Alexander Greingoth..." though he should have known who the man was. "My husband."
Then she looked at the Minister of Magic and said "This is the History of Magic Professor," and one of the few people she considered a friend on staff, "and Deputy Headmaster, Dash Scabior."

"135 Galleons!" She raised paddle 12 again.
"One thirty five!" Going once, going twice... SOLD! To the young lady with paddle 12." and now for another item.
"Next item up for bid..." he said looking at his list, "is a weighted iron sculpture of... meowmeow? Oh I know I'm mispronouncing it... I was never good at runes. Anyway, it's the hammer of Thor, donated by A. Botros. Retailing 30 galleons. Do I hear 15?" He asked.

Oh, this was it.. One of the items Wade was waiting for, he took no time in raising his paddle number 16, "20 Galleons." Oh he hoped his dad wouldn't have to save him on this.
Returning his hug, she gave him a lovely smile, her eyes sparkling happily. "I am." she replied nodding as well. "Junior cursebreaker! I bet it's challenging, fun and unpredictable. I've heard from people it's one of the more exciting positions there!" She could never wrap her head around numbers so she'd never really tried, or pictured herself at Gringotts.
Taking his arm she nodded her eyes bright as she beamed at him. He was such a gentleman it's what she had noticed right from the start back in Fiji. She still kind of hoped that things would maybe some day go beyond friendship, but her being gone for a few months and just owls back and forth hadn't helped matters. Maybe...she should ask if he'd like to go to dinner one night...SOON!
Approaching the table with Luke, she picked a random paddle 46. "Is there anything particular you were hoping to bid on?"
Lucas mood soared when he saw Willow’s eyes sparkle at him. "Junior cursebreaking is an exciting position definitely, something is always happening and you have to be ready for anything and everything." He said happily. "Isn’t that same for writers, I mean you never know what you are going to write about until something news worthy happens, right?" Lucas asked trying to wrap his head around his thought.
With Willow by the arm beaming Luke felt like the day couldn’t get much better except maybe if he won some items in the auction like a kneazle or something pretty for Willow. He wanted something more out of their relationship than just owls back and forth. There had been a spark between them on Fiji which he hoped they could have explored but worked put up hinders for them.
Picking up his own 90 paddle from the table Lucas steered them towards two empty seats next to each other. "I haven’t really decided but I might bid for the kneazle kitten, hippogriff ride and carpet. How about you, any items you want to bid for?"
A man with confidence, Ivy liked that. "Certainly," she replied simply. There was nothing more unattractive than a male who had no confidence in himself. Men needed to have backbones and hard skulls that she could break.

Ivy leaned in and Erik felt his shoulder stiffen slightly, just as an involuntary reaction. Training, as it were. Should he proceed with the 'interested buyer' routine?
Why not. It could lead to her end in the campaign. So he smiled, but didn't take his eyes off the auction. "I think we can discuss this at more length, over drinks..." he mused to her. "If you're thinking vhat I'm thinking."

Hopefully she wasn't thinking of buying this hammer though. Erik needed it. And what's more, he wanted it. It was a knock-off relic of his personal hero. He hated how the auctioneer butchered Mjölnir's beautiful name...but no, this was his chance to rescue the hammer from the clutches of those filthy Brits.
"Twenty-five galleons," Erik called out loudly, raising paddle 007 with his outside hand, so as not to hit the lovely woman sitting beside him.

Already, things were getting pricy for Wade as he challenged the current price, raising his paddle number 16 again. "35 Galleons." He knew just where he wanted it at, resting in a self-made shrine in his bedroom back home in Norway.
Charely who had little interest in the item, thought back on that luck potion. Yes, Auctions weren't for the poor, but clearly that was an understatement. His thoughts were interrupted when he felt Wade's paddle brush against his shoulder from enthusiasm. "Remain calm, son."
• HuffleStud • Knight of The Zodiac • Manly Beard-Grower • Cicatrice de Harry •
Remain calm? Hah, Wade tried not to roll his eyes at his father. This was related to Thor, like the pendant he recieved from class, he would cherish it. "55 Galleons."

"Sixty-five." Erik continued calmly. He might as well just leave his paddle in the air and wave around like he just didn't care. He wasn't surrendering when it came to this item, despite how inflated in price it was now.

"85 Galleons." Wade raised his paddle 16, again. He had saved quite a bit over the years of odd juvenile jobs, the current bid isn't pinching him.
Charely turned to his son. Eighty-five? Just how much has his son been saving all these years?! His face remained blank though, to cover his surprise. If his son managed to get this item without any of his help, well.. Wade's going to get one mighty birthday gift in the near future from him.

"115." Wade raised his paddle again. This was kind of fun, fighting for an item against rich old people.
Charely however still couldn't see the value in this.. replica. But with Wade's excitement, only the heartless would a father want to extinguish that from his son.

Did he just tense up? Or was she making it up? Ivy didn't move either way, but she was curious.
Yes, over drinks was better. They had more freedom to speak as they wished, rather than hushed tones in a school full of people who were going to be voting either for or against them. "Over drinks," she agreed quietly. "I think I am." But then again, maybe she wasn't... Smirk.
Again, Ivy was intrigued by his choice of item to bid on, but she didn't question it. She just kept her paddle on her lap and waited for the item she wished to bid on to come up. She did have to stifle a laugh, though, watching the man argue with children...

"Good," Erik nodded to Ivy, before he was once again distracted by the children. Children, bidding against him, for Thor's hammer! He was authentically Norwegian, didn't they know that?
Perhaps it was better if they didn't, the spoiled brats. "One hundred seventy-five galleons," he bid regardless. Erik glanced over his shoulder at the girl-child bidding behind him.
"You should stop now, girl, vreally..." if she knew what was good for her...

""185 galleons" nerida raised paddle 100 again. She looked over at the man in front of her, did he justtellher to stop bidding on Thors hammer? Really this guy was nuts! She was never going to stop bidding.. Well until it was sold.
"One ninety," Erik bid again, perhaps his last bid. He was growing bored of this game. Perhaps they could try euchre, or seven card stud instead of 'shouting by tens' as they were.

Wade raised his bid again, "200 galleons." He thought it was cool that someone around his age was into Thor as well. Still though, he had a special place for it.
Charely Potter had to bite a laugh as he heard the younger girl's latest bid after being told to stop by the older man. Really, a teenager can never accept a no. He was quite sure by now, Wade was past his savings (or he will have a serious talk on where he acquired such money).. But still, a little competition can't go unrewarded Charely concluded, he would help his son out.
