In the center of the largest room of the Library known as the 'Bookshelves,' a big mahogany pulpit has been put up for Board of Governors Secretary Ian Amoroso's use during the auction, since he is in charge. To the right of the pulpit, a long dark oak table with chairs has been put up for the use of certain esteemed guests and auction organizers like the Hogwarts Governors, Headmistress Truebridge, and School Librarian Leobald Kitridge, as well as few notable others. To the left of the pulpit, there is an average sized table where you, prior to the auction’s start, can browse the objects and items that will be up for grabs in the auction. On the floor, rows upon rows of chairs have been put up for the guests taking part in the auction to sit on. More will appear magically if there is a need.
Just inside the door, to the left, there is a big stack of paddles which everyone taking a part in the auction needs to grab or risk disqualification from bidding. The paddles are what you raise when you want to bid for an object, where your paddles number will be jotted down and later matched up with your name, bid, and prize.
Text Cut: Auction FAQ
Who runs the auction?
Board of Governors Secretary Ian Amoroso (Droo) is in charge.
Can anyone take part in the auction?
Anyone with a number pole can take part, regardless if they are 11 years old or 77 years old (and beyond!).
How do I place a bid?
There are two ways to place a bid on an object or person.
Option 1:
You sit in the auction audience and raise your paddle high enough to catch Amoroso's attention. He will note your bid by raising the price of the item.
Option 2:
You can’t take part in the auction on site at Hogwarts but would like to still place a bid on an object or specific person. You can do that via owl services, using a patronus or a two way mirror. Any outside bids will be taken and registered by the Board Treasurer Harold Lagerty.
What is the procedure when I want to bid for an object or person?
Mr. Amoroso will present the object or person being auctioned off with a brief description of the value of the item (or person). She will then open the bidding at a low amount so that everyone can join in and raise their paddle then as the bidding goes on. The more bids placed, the higher the price of the item. It is up to you if you keep bidding or not.
Example:
Auctioneer: "The bidding opens at one galleon. Do I have one galleon?" Bidder #7: "I bid one galleon." Auctioneer: "Two galleons, do I have two galleons?" Bidder #30: *Raises paddle* Auctioneer: "Very good. Three galleons, do I have three galleons?"
And so on and so forth until nobody wants to bid more money. The auctioneer will say something like, "Tiffany lamp for 40 galleons going once..." No one else bids, "going twice," still no bids, "going…SOLD to Bidder #37, the man in the red jacket."
Bidder #37's bid would then be recorded along with the price he bid and the item ticket number, and a new object or person will be presented. Bidding will start again.
Is there a maximum number of times I can bid for one object?
No, there is not. You can bid as many times as you want for an object as long as you have the funding to back your bids.
PLEASE ONLY USE GALLEONS
Is there a maximum amount of money I can spend in the whole auction?
No, of course not, but everyone bidding should of course have the funding to be able to pay for what they want, or Mr. Lagerty won’t release to you what you have bought at the end of the auction.
I won the bid for an object(s)/person(s)! How do I pay and get my object/reward?
After the whole auction is over you will need to seek out Mr Hops Lagerty to pay and to collect the object(s) you won. Mr. Lagerty will be near the front of the auction platform, so look for him there. If you have won a day with a person, then you will get contact information on that person so that you two can arrange when and where to meet.

So he was the first one in the room. All right, that was fine. Erik flipped through the paddles at the door and selected his lucky number...007. Perfect. He slipped it into his hand and looked around for a chair...one in the back would do.

Ian Amoroso got up on the podium and pulled his wand out. He tapped his throat so his voice would be louder and sound like he was using a microphone. "Hello everyone! I'm Ian Amoroso, and I'm the Senior Undersecretary of our amazing Ministry of Magic and better yet, I'm the secretary for the Board of Governor's of Hogwarts. I have been asked to come up here and be the auctioneer, I think in part because the headmistress thought I'd bid on her." He laughed at his own joke.
"Too bad she isn't one of the staffers being auctioned off. Without further ado I'm going to start the bidding. First Item up for bid comes to us from the Headmistress herself, a pair of limited edition Gianmarco Lorenzi rhinestone-encrusted platform sandals, the bidding will start at 10 galleons, and increase by one for each following bid." Even he knew that was an absolute STEAL.

Hearing the Senior Undersecretary begin the auction and knowing how unpredictable he was Roxanne hurried into the room and grabbed a paddle bearing the number 20 before finding herself a seat. Once she had, she kept her paddle in her lap for a bit, waiting for someone to bid.

Cassandra left Mo behind to fuss over his watermelon as she picked up their paddle and chose seats that were well near the front of the room. It simply made more sense for people to see her bidding on everything, even if she didn't necessarily want or need the objects. She'd take it as her personal responsibility to drive up all the bids.
She studied the paddle Mo had chosen, Paddle 3, as she settled into her seat. The auction would start soon... where had Mo gone?
Amoroso climbed onto the platform and jumped right into the bidding with a pair of very attractive sandals. Might as well start the bidding.

With his family of three in tow, as the baby had been left with someone else for now, Alexander took his place amongst the rows and chairs of those wishing to bid for items. He'd grabbed Paddle 1 for his family, as first was always best in the Slytherin's eyes. His brown eyes fixed on Amoroso as the man started the bidding. Shoes? He had no need for them, but if his wife and daughter wanted anything, he'd told them to let him know.
There were staff members being bidded on? Wait...this didn't mean--... "Mom? You're not being auctioned off, are you?" she asked, giving her mom a pleading look. It would be really embarrassing if her parents were being auctioned off. What would they do, be someone's house elf for a day?
Alexander's eyebrows rose upward and he turned to his daughter and then his wife. "You're being auctioned off?" Alexander asked, having only heard half his daughter's words. He'd never admit it, but his jealously would go into overdrive if that was the case. He'd keep calm, though...
...and threaten immediate harm to any man who looked to be raising his paddle.

Oh Holy Merlin, Colby hadn't been paying attention to what was being auctioned off and now he was about to miss the one thing his wife wanted him to bid on. Those blasted shoes was all his wife wanted and if he didn't at least bid then he would never live it down.
Grabbing paddle number 28 he quickly took a seat just as the bidding started.
Hearing someone bid 10 galleons he raised his paddle with the 28 on it, "11 Galleons here." That's right, a man was bidding on those shoes.
When Selena heard the auction starting she grinned and walked into the room and grabbed paddle number six. She wasn't sure if she was really going to get anything, but it was probably nice to just bid for fun anyways, right? Plus, it looked like fun and Selena had never done any auction-y stuff before. She waved to people as she walked and took a seat.
Shoes.
Tall Shoes.
Ew. Selena would pass. The pair she was wearing was painful enough.

Kanna wasn't concerned that the auction had already started. Not really. She glanced over the table and saw nothing that particularly sparked her fancy. But something told her she would regret it if she left. So, after snagging paddle number 12, she took a seat near the back, waiting to see if that feeling would pan out...
Keaira made her way to the auction area. Looking at the sandals she just sat there. Paddle down on her lap - she didn't need the shoes.
Really.
She just wasn't a sandal person.
So paddle number 8 stayed on her lap.
Mika looked at the pointy shoes and just giggled. It wasn't her place - so, yeah she'd just try and come back when the Pygym puff was up for dibs. Dezzy needed a partner. Yeah?
SO she just got up and skipped off to the food.
Food was awesome after all. Paddle number 70 stayed in hand.
Charlie was a fashion nerd. Really. And the one thing she needed. Quickly she raised her paddle, number 21 shot into the air.
"12 Galleons here" and gave that I will raise you all look she was known for.

Addison figured he might as well head towards the auction area, though the surrounding bookshelves did catch the former Ravenclaw's eye. Oh he had spent many, many hours with the library's walls. But he was getting reminiscent and distracted, the cursebreaker shaking his head to regain his present thoughts. He was here for a totally different reason...well sort of. Helping rebuild the library was important to him BECAUSE of his time spent there after all.
Looking through the available paddles, he tried to find one that seemed like it could be a lucky number for him. Numbers were one of his main attractions. He finally settled on Paddle 36 since 6 was already taken. With paddle in hand, he took an empty seat as the first item was put up for auction.

It was a nice change from his lab coat - which he had been wearing at the Ministry all the time now thanks to the drooling zombie beavers or whatever they were.
Cocking an eyebrow at her as they walked, Aron debated whether or not to be playful with his reply or turn all protective husband like his insides were telling him to. "I thought that was rather obvious," he replied, going somewhere in the middle with his reply as he kissed her cheek. Although he did find it a little unfair and ridiculous that he would be bidding on someone that he was married to...maybe he could just bid to make sure that only someone old and wrinkly or a student who just wanted private tutoring won her? That was fair, yes?

It was true, partly through his charm and partly through his brash manly way of doing things and not always thinking about the consequences. But it was mostly the charm. Smoothing down the fabric across his chest, with the mock buttons and so forth, she grinned. "Oh of course," she nodded, space toys, sexy, that's exactly what he was doing.
Seren welcomed the kiss on her cheek, and leant in to give him one of her own... though, it felt a little unusual what with being at work and all. But cheeks were fine, right? Surely. "Obvious?" she mused, smirking slightly. "So you're after those sandals?" she asked, clearly amused with herself.

Buzzing around high above all the heads of those here to support Hogwarts was a lone mosquito which came to a rest only every now and again to give its wings a break from all the flittering and fluttering. It had been a while since it had been out and about like this - walking around on two legs as a human was SO much easier - but it was determined to buzz around and observe. Yes. Observe.

Heh. Seren always knew how to stroke his ego. Not that he minded this or anything, but that went without being said. "You look beautiful, by the way," he whispered again just so she could hear. Cowgirl, it suited her.
"You know you volunteered yourself to be auctioned off because you knew I would be willing to pay top galleon for you if I had to," he smirked as he momentarily turned his attention towards the platform to see what was being auctioned off at the moment. Heh. Cute Seren, real cute. "Only if you want them," he smirked while twirling his numbered paddle in his hand.

Kathryn walked to the Auction seating and grabbed a paddle for herself and Oakey to use She took a look at the number and beamed. "Oakey dear why don't you do the bidding for us. I don't want to miss a second of these auctions because of my hearing." he passed the paddle over to Oakey and she took her seat
Oakey took a look down at the Paddle number that GeeGee had put him in charge of. It read 13 on and Oakey sighed. thirteen would never do him any good, and he was unsure how many Galleons GeeGee had brought with her. What would they possibly win anyways.

Warefield was excited for this Auction he quickly grabbed a paddle with the number 2 on it and rushed to find a seat. He took his time here aswell to scope out any Board of Governors candidates. But turned his attention to the front when the first item was being auctioned off.

Seren blushed, her cheeks glowing pink. "You have to say that, you're my husband." Yes, her husband. The word still felt foreign, but nice foreign... they type of foreign you wanted to hear repeated over and over again. But there would be plenty of time for that. "But thank you."
If she wasn't smirking before, then she definitely was now. Truthfully, there were numerous reasons she volunteered herself for the auction, namely, because it was for a good cause. But a small part of her had wondered how her husband would react, and seeing him protective or jealous was just too much fun. "If I want them?" She repeated, contemplating the possibilities. Unfortunately it wasn't something she would get to wear very often. It would be wasted on her. "Mmm... no, I think we can pass on those." Even though they were shiny.

The shoes were nice, and it was a shame they went at such a steal. The lucky lady who won them was getting a remarkable deal. Cassandra almost felt jealous before turning her attention to the purse. My, my... that was lovely and bright and cheerful, wasn't it?
But perhaps a bit young for her.
"You like that, Mum?" Mo put his watermelon in an empty chair and leaned in against his mother. "It's really RED. Like you could always find it in a pile of purses."
His mother just pursed her lips, so Mo took the paddle from her and raised it himself. 'Cause she wanted it, and wasn't going to bid.
Charlie just flushed when she realized she had won the sandals. Really she was glad she had gotten them but she wouldn't have minded if someone else had gotten something as well. After all, she had just won an amazing pair of sandals that would make her closet that much more cozy cramped she was happy.
But when the bag came on she was practically drooling for it.
She needed to stop - otherwise she would afford anything. She'd already donated money to get in here.

They were auctioning off PROFESSORS?!
Alec clutched his Winnie the Pooh cuddly toy a little tighter as his eyes STARED at the list. People were going to... pay money... to spend time with a Professor? Hmm... what Professor could he bid on? Half of these Professors were scary. And the other half? He... wasn't close with at all. This was going to be hard.
OH HEY HADLEY. GRIN.
As for the other things... there were a lot more of those up for auction. Like flying goggles! And... something called Felix Felicis? He didn't know what that was but... it sounded... familiar. OH OH OH OH OH! THE HAMMER OF THOR? A... sculptor of it, actually. BUT THOR. GRIN. That kind of reminded him of the Runes Man, Botros. Did he give that in for auctioning? And the animated sculptors? That didn't remind Alec of a certain blonde haired, green eyed girl. Nope.
Hair!ruffle.
Erm... maybe he should stop looking at the items, now. Okay. Still clutching his Winnie the Pooh toy, Alec grabbed a paddle with the number 56 on it and turned away from the items. Now... where to... sit... OH. There were a lot of people here with people... he had never seen before. Okay. Maybe he should find someone who wasn't sitting with anyone? Or just... sit next to someone he had never seen-
LYSS WAS HERE.
... He was just excited to see his unbiological sister. So excited that he practically bounced off towards the girl just as she bid a big 60 galleons on... a bag. A red bag. Maybe it was a really nice bag? He didn't know. The fourth year sat down next to her and grinned some more. "Hey Lyss!" Now... what to bid on...?

Another bid? Noooooo. Mo peered back into the crowd to give the girl who had bid a hard look before raising the paddle again. "Paddle THREEEE says 70 Galleons!"

Eighty Galleons? It was like a personal affront to Mo, and the love he had for his mother, and the fact that his costume was amazing and no one had figured it out yet, and and and... Vivi said Hufflepuffs were the devil.
