Located next door to Professor Flamsteed's office, the Astrophysics Laboratory is strictly off limits to unsupervised students and the door has been charmed locked. You could try to remove the charm, but that would not be very wise on your part as you would walk away with lime green eyebrows that won't fade for days and hair growing out of your ears down to the floor. On occasion, Professor Flamsteed will hold special laboratory lessons and assign homework that can only be completed by using this room. Those wishing to use the laboratory MUST do so under Professor Flamsteed's supervision.
The laboratory consists of 20 hardtop wooden tables with cushioned stools. On each table you will find a microscope and other forms of equipment to help students with their scientific research. The shelves on the walls are neatly organized with books, flasks, jars of powdered elements, and everything an aspiring astronomer could think of.

"Well, first make sure that the jar is clean," he said with a nod. He would have added something like 'or else the same thing will happen,' but he was trying to avoid making the child more upset than she already was. "Then you need to add the powdered elements and compress them with the correct spell." She had already done these steps before, so he had total confidence in her doing them again.
She nodded, indicating that she'd heard him before placing the jar on the table and aiming her wand at it. "Scourgify." That was done, no big problem, no lucky star needed there. Once she got it cleaned she picked it up to inspect it but quickly decided not to. When she cleaned Jeffery's jar she didn't go inspecting, doing it now would make him jealous.
Lex stole a glance at Jeffery then at the Professor. Did he even know how hard this was?
Probably not.
She got out the powdered Hydrogen and Helium and put a tablespoon of each into the jar. Now came the hard part. She stole another glance at Jeffery as she raised her hand to the jar but somehow she couldn't bring herself to cast. Not yet. Lex lowered her wand then went over to Jeffery and turned his jar around so he wouldn't have to watch the creation of his replacement. It just wouldn't have been right.
Okay. Now she could do it.
"Fingere Elementi."
She watched the elements get to work and everything and stared in fascination. The fascination quickly left when she could have sworn she heard a little squeak from Jeffery...
....
He could still see, couldn't he? Lex put down the jar of merging elements then picked up poor, neglected Jeffery and slumped to the floor cradling his jar. "He means nothing to me, honest!"He was the only star for her, dead or alive. NOT Jerffery was nothing but homework.

Amazing to think that this powder will turn into a real star! How did someone ever figure that out? Scientists were so smart. She loved learning about these things, but she doubted she would ever make some awesome discovery like this. How did they even think, 'Oh hey, if I put this and this together I can make this even cooler more interesting thing!'? Crazy. Anyway, so now what? She spun the jar around to look at the way the powders mixed in the jar. A name for my soon-to-be star? Hmm...Well I definitely think it will be a girl, so... She thought and thought about it for a while. It will be yellow hopefully so what's a happy yellow name? But nothing too stupid. Buttercup? No. Sunny? No. ... Gosh why does it even matter? It's not a cat or something. She frumped in her chair and crossed her arms, frustrated that she couldn't think of a good name. Then she had the idea. What about mixing the two elements together? Helium and Hydrogen. Heligen? Hydrium? Hyligen? Hedligen? Those aren't very pretty either... Negileh? That might be getting somewhere. Negilium, Muileh, Muligen...Muyrgen, Murygen? Muilygen? Muily?...Milly? Almost like Milky...Milky way...and she's a star so... Muilygen for long and Milly for short? Sure, why not? And it was decided. One that Eliza might be crazy, but two that she had named her star.

After she added the name to her label, she drew her wand to turn the powder into gas. But first, she checked her notes to make sure that she cast the spell correctly because she did NOT want to have to start over and super clean another jar.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Jory was back at the lab only a few days later. He had gratefully found some free time so this wasn't one of those visits where he had to rush to get to Starry to make sure that it was alright.
After grabbing a coat and a pair of goggles from the closet, he pulled them on and headed for Starry. He was in a good mood and was not paying much attention to the star in the jar as he hummed a cheerful tune. After setting his book bag down on the table it was then the badger noticed that his star was glowing a brilliant shade of red.
"Oh no,'' Jory thought. "It was a good thing I decided to visit today.'' He really didn't want to start the entire process all over again. He pulled out his book and flipped it open to the page containing the notes on taking care of the star.
"Your star will glow red when there is too much helium,'' he read and then looked at Starry. "Well, then Starry, it seems there's too much helium in there.'' He got out his wand. "Deminugasalis is the spell and the wand movement is two flicks.'' The boy pointed his wand in the direction of the jar. "Deminugasalis!'' Followed by two flicks. Sure enough, the Puffer could see the red diminishing slowly until Starry was now glowing the usual bright yellow colour.
He grinned. "Red is a nice colour but we prefer yellow. So make sure you stay that colour, Starry.''

Airey nodded approvingly while Alexa worked and bent down once she had performed Fingere Elementi perfectly to check on her new star when the Gryffindor's words caught his attention.
Nothing. Well, this was not starting out well at all.
"Miss Cambridge, that is not the attitude to have while doing this assignment," he said in a somewhat firm tone. "While I understand that you are upset about what happened to Jeffery, not putting your full attention on this star will result in you repeating your mistakes." Now Airey was starting to understand the concept of tough love and why Pebbles made the perfect pet.
"Here is what we are going to do because he is serving as a distraction from your work. Jeffery will remain in my office until the completion of this assignment. You may come visit him whenever you like, as long as you do so after taking care of your new star." Bribing. Motivation. Same thing really, right? "You are very bright when you want to be, Miss Cambridge. So consider this all one big exercise in how to channel your energy and focus. I have every confidence that you will be able to do this assignment if you focus."
After offering the girl a genuine smile - because he really did hate seeing students struggle like this - Airey picked up her jar with the dead star, allowed her enough time to say good bye, and the made his way out of the lab to put the star on his desk.

A star.
Ella Bishop was going to have her very own star and she was going to get to take care of it and watch over it and keep it safe. She was going to be a star's mommy. Beam! This was really exciting stuff, in case you didn't know. With her Astronomy notes in hand the fifteen year old bounced into the astrophysics lab, a wide smile playing on her lips. Yup, she was super excited!
First thing Ella needed to do was get on the proper gear to work in the lab, yeah? She quietly headed over to the closet on the right and picked out a lab coat and goggles, making sure the coat wasn't too big for her. She was quite small for her age and the last thing she needed was a baggy lab coat. She wanted to look like a proper scientist, she did. As she put the coat on the badger couldn't help but smile, thinking of her Grandfather who had been a doctor. Did she look like a doctor right now too? Grin! She totally did. The goggles were placed on too and then she was ready to get started.
Having picked out a satisfactory jar, one that was fitting for a new baby star to live in, the blonde placed it down and reached for a label. No way anyone was going to touch this thing, yeah? It was property of Ella Ellasaurus Ellaphant Bishop now, mhm!

And with that done, it was time for some cleaning!
Oichi was so happy to have her little Fatina star that she forgot for a moment what a good color for her star was supposed to be. When she started to calm down she remembered from her notes that color was yellow and hers was clearly red. Oh no! How did this happen so early in my little stars life. Oh what can I do about this? Oichi quickly looked over her notes and soon found a solution. "Alright little Fatima, I know how to help you and you are gonna be healthy glowing star in no time.". With two flicks of her wand, " "Deminugasalis", she concentrated hard on her star becoming yellow. The reaction was not immediate but after 30 secconds the color started to change and within a minute she had a healthy radiant yellow star. She beamed. "Now you're all better but its getting late so I'll see you in the morning Fatina. I love you little one, night". And with that Oichi left the observatory and headed back to her dorm.

Now that Ella had labeled her jar she was ready to clean it. She couldn't bare the thought of her little star growing up in a dirty home and so she raised her wand, pointing it inside. "Scourgify!"Hmmm. Tilting her head to the side, the blonde inspected her work with a slight frown playing on her lips. "Missed a spot." And she used the sleeve of her lab coat to rub the spot quickly and efficiently, eyeing it again when she was done. "Perfect." Beam!
Consulting her notes, the blonde saw that next up on the to-do list was to combine the helium and hydrogen inside the jar. She could do that no problem, yeah? And so she gathered up the powdered helium and hydrogen and a spoon, organizing it in front of her on the work space. She then cleaned the spoon, knowing it was important to work with tools that had been freed of contamination. First up was the helium and the blonde scooped out a table spoon into the jar. The badger then cleaned the spoon again and repeated the step with the hydrogen. When she was finished she placed the lid on and screwed it shut.
...Now what?
Oh. This was the really important part, the part that would make the gases to create the baby star. Ella smiled a little as she eyed her notes and went over the incantation in her head.
Right, she was ready. Breatheeeeee. Pointing her wand at the jar she bit her lip for a moment or two before she said clearly, "Fingere Elementi!"
Grin!
And now the gases were meant to create the star, yeah? Ella watched it curiously for a few minutes, checking over her notes to make sure she'd done everything that was listed in the directions. All seemed to have gone well so she packed up for the day, setting her jar on the counter and back a little so it wouldn't be knocked over. And then she returned her lab coat and goggles to the closet before grabbing her notes and heading out the door. Next time she came she'd be able to take care of the little thing, yeah? Yeah.

Lex stayed on the ground, snuggling her face against the jar, hoping to gain his forgiveness for nearly replacing him but her cuddling was cut short when the Professor began to speak. She was listening to him, honest, she was but after awhile he was saying things that she most definitely did NOT want to hear. She nodded, hoping he would take that at face value and leave her be but he didn't.
JBSCLSIDK!!!
Her star...JEFFERY! Where was the Professor going with him??? Nuuuuu! He wasn't a distraction! Honest! She--she could be equal and fair and all that other useless stuff!! She wibbled a bit as she watched him leave the room with her baby.
This called for some quick action! The sooner she got through with NOT Jeffery was the sooner she'd be able to see Jeffery again. She hopped up off the ground, deciding to get to work immediately. In the jar was a yellow star. Yeah. She got that part. Just. What did she do with it? Lex picked it up then plopped back down on the floor.
"How's about we just have a nice little chat, hm? You'd like that, wouldn't you? I could just tell you really nice things and you'd be happy then I'd be able to leave--you aren't the overly emotional, cry as soon as I leave, die within a month type, are you?" Jeffery had been that type and she didn't think she'd be able to handle two of them. When he didn't answer she became a bit worried. See? There was no connection. He probably didn't trust her enough to speak. S'Okay little guy, the star whisperer is here. She petted the jar awkwardly, giving him a bit more time. "Answer when you can NOT Jeffery. I'm here for you." Supportive!Lex.
When it seemed he wouldn't be talking at all she just held him close to her, it was important for him to feel loved according to the Professor and TWO dead stars weren't very impressive on her part. No one would ever trust her with caring for anything again!
She stayed, nice and snug with him in silence for another ten or so minutes before deciding that was enough. Getting up again, she placed him on the table. "I'll see you soon, NOT Jeffery." And this time she meant it, but right now....I'M COMING JEFFERY!
And she was gone.

Ella wandered into the Astrophysics laboratory with a wide smile playing on her lips. Today was an exciting day and for lots of reasons! The main reason being was that today she was going to name her star! Her very own star that she was raising. Meeeeep! This was very exciting stuff! Oh! And she couldn't get started until she was properly suited up so she headed over to the closet and picked out a lab coat and a pair of goggles before putting them on. There, ready to rumble.
BEAM!
When she found her jar on the counter, the blonde GRINNED at it and bent down so that she was at eye level with her star. "Helloooo there." She cooed quielty, waving a little. "Today is a very special day for you, y'know. It's the name you get your name!" And yes, this was BIG news. "I've done a lot of thinking about it and I think I've come up with the perfect one for you."
And Ella wasn't kidding about having done a lot of thinking about her star and its name. The blonde went back to her dormitory after her first trip to the lab and came up with quite a large list of names she might want to use. One needed to think about stuff like this because you didn't want to be one of those moms who like scarred their child for life by picking the wrong name! Like...what if she'd picked squirt or something? Yeah sure it sounded cute at first but then the poor little star might get picked on by the other little stars and Ella just wasn't having that. NOPE! So she'd done some serious thinking and she'd come up with a name that she thought was very fitting for the little guy. Stars shined brightly, yeah? And they attracted peoples' attention and when you looked up at the sky it felt like they were watching over you, yeah? Well Ella knew someone in her life who had all of those traits. And so she picked up her quill and with a small smile on her face, the fifteen year old added the star's name to the label on the front of the jar.
Quote:
Little Treyen
And when she was done the girl BEAMED at her star and pet the lid of the jar gently, hoping that it liked the name she'd chosen. "Make Sir Treyen proud mmmkay, Little Treyen?"
Okay! She was back! And she'd brought both boxes this time. They were completely necessary for this, weren't they? Otherwise, her star would end up being an invisible one.
First things first, again. So, she went to the closet, like last time, and performed a cleaning spell on both the lab coat and the goggles, like last time. Once she was wearing both, she went in the search for the jar she'd left here last time, and placed it on her working space, along with the boxes containing powdered helium and hydrogen. THISWASSOEXCITING!
Scourgify, Scourgify, Scourgify. That's all one could hear that was coming from the girl's mouth. Ironically, she'd cleaned everything even more than she did in Potions. It probably had something to do with Professor Flamsteed. He encouraged neatness far more than Lafay. How so? Because the Dungeons were already sort of dirty, so cleaning was the normal thing to do. While HERE, where everything is already clean, well, yeah.
Even the spoon/measure thing met the cleaning spell as well.
Okay, ZERO contamination possible now. Let's get to work on CREATION. Heh. Lottie was almost bouncing, but she kept as still as possible as soon as she opened the tiny boxes that would soon be responsible for awesomeness. Now, the spoon/measure thing slowly caressed the powdered helium before one tablespoon was suddenly added to her jar. Scourgify. Now let's do hydrogen! Lottie did the same, one tablespoon of powdered hydrogen was added. Then closed the jar. ASTIGHTASPOSSIBLE. Soon after that, she cleaned the spoon and closed the little boxes.
SIGH. This wasn't over.
The girl put everything away first, just in case something happened while she performed the spell that would bring the contents in the jar to life. Once there was nothing but the jar, she took out the parchment with the spell instructions and her wand. Well, that was just stupid, Lotus, the wand movement was merely a jab. Got it. "Fingere Elementi," she said, jab included in the motion.
OHPEBBLESTHISISSOAMAZING!!!
We meant to say Merlin, not Pebbles.
She watched, amazed, as the spell seemed to have worked out perfectly fine. And a star was created. CLEARLY, she had to bounce a little bit, almost knocking the jar off the table. OOPS. "I'msorry,I'msorry,I'msorry," she said, taking the jar in her hands as quickly as possibly. BUT LOOKIT! There was some sort of glow! The shaking must've worked, too.
SHE HAD A STAR! SHE MADE A STAR! And she'll make sure it'll be the brightest one in here. So, expect daily visits. It was excellent workout, too.
The jar was going back to the counter now, as far away from any edge as possible. She tapped the lid twice, as if to say 'See you soon, star', before taking her things and leaving the coat and goggles in the closet.
Looking back to her jar, instead of a smile, there was a smirk on her face. She's awesome, so, by extension...so is her star.

Nerida picked up the jar that she had just put the label on. Now what was she supposed to do? Oh right clean it, so the jar could be sparkly too! She pointed her wand in the jar, "Scourgify."
Now where was she? Oh yeah, adding the hydrogen and helium stuff! She stuck her hand into her pocket and began rummaging around for the little metallic containers. She grabbed hold of them and fished them out. Looking around the surface of the table, she saw some conveniently placed spoons, Professor Airey thought of everything, didn't he! Good because she didn't feel like making another trip to the closest. Because she really wanted to make her star.
Snatching a spoon, she pried open both containers then added a spoonful of each into the jar.
Once that was done she put the lid back on and took a step back. Spell time again! She had practiced all the spells that the Professor had taught them. Nerida cast Fingere Elementi at the jar! A few seconds and...it worked!!! Dear sweet Merlin!!! IT WORKED!!! The powder was changing!
A star!!! Her star!!!! It was becoming a star!!!

Jory was humming to himself as he entered the lab. He had been to see Starry only a few days or so ago, so he was confident that it was okay. He put on a lab coat and the pair of goggles and then made his way to the usual table at which he sat. As soon as he got there, he took Starry's jar and examined the star within.
"Hallo, Starry,'' the boy greeted. "Looking good.'' It was true. Starry was looking okay. "But less bright and yellow,'' he observed. He was concerned. What was wrong with his Star? Setting down the jar, he himself took a seat and reached into his bag for his Astronomy book and flipped it open to the page where he had written all the spells to take care of the star.
"It doesn't say anything about looking...er less bright and less yellow,'' the Puffer said after a quick scan. He was so observed in looking at his notes, he failed to notice that Starry was turning into an orangish colour. As Starry proceeded to lean towards a red colour, Jory frowned over his notes, muttering to himself. "Maybe I should go ask Professor Flamsteed,'' he muttered. Worriedly, he looked up at Starry. And stared. "But, but...you were just yellow!'' He was surprised that his Star had changed colour so fast. The last time there was too little helium so he suspected this red was caused by too much.
"Cumugasalis,'' he muttered. "Two flicks of the wand.'' The Puffer pointed his wand at the jar. ''Cumugasalis!'' And he followed this up with two flicks. Surely enough, it worked as Starry's red colour began to fade, to orange and back to bright yellow. Now Starry really looked like itself. "There! All better, Starry.''
Didn't she say she was going to be here every single day to visit her awesome star? Yes, exactly.
Lottie stepped inside the Astrophysics lab and went to the closet again. Lab coat + goggles + Scourgify. This will be a daily routine. She gets used to routines rather easily, except, she still didn't see how Quidditch was working out for her since she didn't attend all practices, but Quidditch was nothing compared to her star. The workout was clearly worth it when it came to...
...well, she still needed to name the star, okay? And that's what today was for.
Needless to say, she STRUGGLED to come up with a name. Why? Well, Magenta was clearly named after the color the pygmy puff was, but this star (the one she was now taking from the counter to her working station) was...(wait for it)...YELLOW.
She suspected Professor Flamsteed had been especially mean for that. Because she'd moved his jars and whatnot.
It was a color she wasn't fond of, but a color she was fond of admiring, since her blue eyes were fixed on the glowing jar. Her star IS awesome, because she was still glowing perfectly since yesterday.
It looked like she wasn't going to need the list of spells she'd brought along with her.
"I thought of a name for you, you know?" even if Lottie thought that her family tradition of names after flowers or plants wasn't precisely necessary, she had one of her own, only hers involved colors. People wouldn't question the name. "You need to understand, you're a yellow star, so...I apologize if you don't like your color, but there's nothing I can about it, except NOT naming you 'Yellow', okay?" she whispered this, because stars only understood this way, via whispers. And TAPPING on the jar, too.
Time to write the name she took forever to figure out. So, she added it to her label, nicely written too.
Quote:
Hello! I belong to Lotus A. Wisteria, 2nd year Hogwartian. Don't mess with me. ^__^
Given name: Lemon!
It was totally fair, okay? Because lemons were also yellow. And this sort of yellow could also be confused with green, which Lottie had no issues with, except that color didn't suit her eyes too well. But she still accepted it.
"You're 'Lemon', and I expect you to be as bright as one of those under the sunlight, except you'll shine bright under moonlight." A smile was given to the star, who was now officially: Lemon. "I may call you 'Lemony', if you behave." Heh.
Okay. All work here is done. Lottie supposed she could stay a while, but...she was also getting hungry, and it was a long way dooown.
Her things were gathered quickly, and Lemon was placed in its safe spot on the counter. She tapped the jar twice again. She'll be back tomorrow. Now...coat and goggles in the closet again, before finally exiting.

Alyssa returned to the Astrophysics lab to check on Yvaine. She didn't know how much longer she was going to be taking care of her star, but she had made herself and Yvaine a promise, that as long as the star was in her safekeeping, she would do her utmost best to take care of it. Walking over to the cupboard, she removed a clean lab coat and a pair of goggles and put them on before she walked over to check on Yvaine.
She found the jar with her name labelled on it and was alarmed to see that it was glowing white. Alyssa quickly unholstered her wand because she immediately know what that color meant. Yvaine was running low on hydrogen and she had to cast the spell that would bring its hydrogen levels back to normal. She waved her wand in a tight circle over the jar while saying,"Crescere" before jabbing her wand at it again while saying "Hydrogenenii".
Alyssa watched as a beam of light streamed from her wand and flowed over the jar and Yvaine. With abated breath, she leaned down and whispered encouraging words to the star in the jar. "Come on Yvaine...come on. You can do it." For what seemed like minutes but was actually only a couple of seconds, the contents in the jar started to change from white to a light shade of yellow and then back to the shade of yellow it was supposed to be. Alyssa slowly relaxed, releasing the tension in her neck and shoulder muscles, and breathed a sigh of relief. The levels of hydrogen in the jar was back to normal.
She sat down on a chair and leaned over to peer into the jar. "You're all better now, Yvaine. But I hope you don't mind if I sit right next to you and keep watch over you for awhile." Alyssa sat back in her chair, as she kept a watchful eye on the contents in the jar, and began to sing.
Text Cut: Someone to watch over me
"There's a somebody I'm longing to see
I hope that he turns out to be
Someone to watch over me
I'm a little lamb who's lost in a wood
I know I could always be good
To one who'll watch over me
Although he may not be the man some girls think of
As handsome to my heart
he carries the key
Won't you tell him please to put on some speed
Follow my lead, oh how I need
Someone to watch over me
Someone to watch over me."
As she trailed off, humming the tune to the song again, Alyssa stood up and made her way to the cupboard to hang up the lab coat and return the protective goggles she removed from her head. Then she turned one more time to look at her jar. It continued to glow yellow, which made Alyssa smile. Situation normal for now. With that in mind, Alyssa left the lab for the day.

It had been a whole nother week, not a week since she visited NOT Jeffery but a whole week of her taking care of him while her baby stayed locked up in the Professor's office. Sure she visited him but that wasn't enough and she was sure he cried whenever she had to leave. Poor thing. Because of her it had to stay locked up instead of being able to stay in here with the other stars he had made friends with.

She walked into the lab, shoulders slumped just a little and went straight to get the equipment from the small room. Once she was properly equipped and stuff she slapped on her goggles and turned to see her star--
Eeeeeek!!!
Why in Merlin's Beard was he RED?? Stars weren't supposed to go red, especially not after her other one went black. >____<
She ran over to him immediately and snatched him up quickly. "Nuuu! You can't! Don't die! That's not fair, I've been visiting you all week." She was already kind of flailing around in her head. Professor Airey told her not to kill this one and if she had to go to his office with a second black star she was sure he'd take at least a good 50 house points--he'd think she was taking this project for a joke! No one ever took her seriously, he wouldn't believe it was an accident.
WHY was she here panicking when NOT Jeffery was dying????
She put him back on the table quickly then grabbed her bag and began sifting through it for the piece of parchment that she'd written the star care instructions on and in her rush she nearly ripped it.
KDFRVLJB!!
SPOILER!!: Parchment

There was no time for this!! She held it up and began reading. Let's see....red...red...red..Aha!
Gah, unbelieveable! It had two reasons for turning red! Well which one was it??? Uh...um....she had to pick one! "Cumugasalis!" EEEEEEeeeeeekkk! It was getting redder. "No no no no no!!!!!" Wrong spell, wrong spell! Clearly he was good in the helium department--MORE THAN GOOD. Uhhhhhh..... "Deminugasalis! Deminugasalis! Deminugasalis!!!" WOOOOORK!!!!
Why wasn't it working?! NOT Jeffery!!!! Nuuuu--...
She lowered her wand when she saw the start slowly fading to orange and getting lighter and lighter until it was yellow again. At this, she sighed, feeling a little more exhausted than she should have. "Don't scare me like that again." PLEASE.

It's a new day, it's a new....COLOR? Was Lemon an orange now? That couldn't be right, RIGHT?! No.
As quickly as possible, she did the same thing one always did when entering the lab. Scourgify'ing a lab coat and a pair of goggles and putting them on. Now...her eyes went wide when she noticed Lemon was a darker orange tone! She KNEW everything named or having the color YELLOW was a disaster!
We're on to you, Professor Flamsteed.
"Lemon? Why are you close to red? Get your act together, I'm not renaming you," she spoke to the jar, which was now on her working space, while she took out the sheet with the spell work. Seriously? There were two possible spells! OH, no, wait a minute. They both indicated the same thing. "There's too much helium on you, you say?" Lottie nearly frowned. She didn't see how that would be possible, especially since she'd been yellow the whole time, the sudden change just didn't fit. Unless, of course, the star was too cold, but she hadn't performed any temperature spells or anything...
...maybe she ought to try the temperature one, just in case.
"Dextrini Potitus!" she said, doing the jab and the flick upwards to increase the temperature, right? But the glow didn't fade away, if anything, it increased a bit more. So, perhaps the star was dying and all the while, Miss Wisteria was thinking here considering things.
So, no to the temperature, yes to the helium? As she'd originally thought? NICE. "Deminugasalis!" TWO flicks of her wand happened, and the red glow started to decrease. "Oh, well, that explains it," not really. The second year cast the spell again, and the star returned to her former yellow glowing.
GRANTED, Lemon looked FIERCE in red. She supposed blue would suit her better, but she wasn't about to try and see how it'd look and put the little star in danger. It may be yellow, but it is an awesome star, who didn't deserve to face death.
Before she could do anything else, she started to scribble in her journal, Lemon's journal, and tried to be as detailed as possible in the description of how Lemon looked. In case it happened again, of course. Also, the spells used were added, for further insight.
Her eyes went up to make sure the glow was still a yellow one. Seemed perfect to her.
Okay! "I better get going, Lemon," she'll come first thing in the morning, just to check on her star. For now, the jar was going back to the counter (she tapped twice on the jar, again), and the lab coat and goggles to the closet. Unlike last time, she did look back at the star before finally leaving, only there was a proper smile on her face instead of a smirk.

Ella was humming and very smile as she entered the Astrophysics Lab. She was becoming quite the frequent visitor here and it mostly had to do with a certain little star she was quite fond of. The blonde quickly made her way over to the closet to get her lab coat and goggles and got ready. She really just wanted to see Little Treyen and make sure she was doing okay. Speaking of, now that she was properly dressed, she totally could.
"Little Treyen, how are you doing tod-" O___________O MERLIN'S BEARD! He was blue! Little Treyen was blue and Ella was panicked. He was supposed to be yellow! A little yellow star! There was no blue allowed in here as far as Ella was concerned and the blonde was seriously freaked that her little guy had changed color. Okay, just breatheeeeeeeeeeee. There's got to be a perfectly logical explanation for this. And the fifteen year old quickly pulled out her notes from her bag, scanning them meticulously.
FROWN.
"Little Treyen, you're too hot."Wibble. What kind of mommy let something like this happen to their star? "I can fix this though and you'll be good as new." Yup, he was going to be cooled off in just a second. "I just need to...I need." Wand. Where was her wand?! Ella reached into her bag again and got it from the front pocket, biting on her lip the entire time. Nervous star mommy was nervous, okay? And nervous mommy needed to bring the temperature down because it was too high and too hot for her Little Treyen.
Breatheeeeeeeeeeeee and "Dextrini Potitus!" And Ella jabbed her wand with a flick down. And then she watched and waited. She waited for the little star to go back to yellow cause that would mean he was okay, yeah?

Alice was kind of excited to get a star, you know, on account of she got to NAME it. And she just adored naming stuff, because her Mama Selina gave everything a name, and if she started personifying items, too, that would make her more awesome. Or something. Also, she would be the MOMMY of a star, which meant Selina was getting a grandchild! The fourteen year old fully expected her role model to be thrilled when she told her the news. She really did.
When she entered the Astrophysics Lab, there was a huge grin stretched across her face. This might have been the second time in history Alice was actually excited about homework. How wonderful. But before she could start on the naming and all, she had to grab some equipment and gear and stuff. She gravitated toward the closet, slipping on a pair of goggles and a white lab coat that was much too big for her. The sleeves fell past her hands, but she preferred it to the smaller ones, so she rolled them up neatly until her fingers were free.
Having picked out a nice star jar, one that was fitting for Selina's grandchild to reside in, she fetched a label to stick on it. Because it was HER property, hers only, and no one was going to touch it. Or her. Or him. But Alice could select a gender after the monumental naming, yeah? Of course she could. Right now, she only had to write her own name, something that she was very good at.
Quote:
I am Captain Alice Fischer's star, and if you touch me, she will bite you.
That seemed reasonable to her, yeah?

Stars. Those were the sparkly things in the sky with the songs about them. They were pretty and Melanie had always wanted a star. Well, maybe she wasn't aware of it back then, but she was very much aware of it now and she wanted a star. A pretty star that sparkled when she looked at it and wouldn't leave. The sun was a star and it was always there right? So her star would do the same. She hummed as she entered the laboratory, putting on a white lab coat in the process.
She liked lab coats. They were all doctor-y and when you ran... they would billow out behind and it was kinda cool. She slipped her goggles down from the top of her head to cover her eyes then looked around, still humming a little tune. Where to s- labels. Jars. Right. Stars. She would have a star. That made her grin some more. Her very own star.
Not really looking, Melanie chose a random jar and looked at the label. Her name. That needed to go on the label. Carefully, Melanie printed her name on the label with big capital letters. Because capital letters were always much more easier to read than lower case letters. She'd have to make sure the I didn't look like an L though; that happened too much.

That was legible yes? Melanie thought it was. She pet the lid of the jar and wiggled her fingers hello at the thing inside of the jar. Her star. Maybe one day the star could join her for tea. The Gryffindor readjusted the goggles covering her eyes before pulling out her wand. She would have to clean the home of her star too, she supposed.

Catch a falling star and... put it in a jar and stare at it and pretend like you have some control over what happens to it... la la la. Mo entered the astrophysics lab and made a beeline for the closet to find a lab coat and goggles. JUST LIKE A MAD SCIENTIST. Next to the jars, all lined up and waiting for him. Were they all the same? He still studied every single jar before picking out one near the back that looked lonely to him. Both the jar AND the satchel containing Mo's boxes traveled across the room to a work station in the vicinity of Lex.
"Why're you yelling at your star thingy?" Mo asked as he carefully wrote out his name on the label for his jar. Should he write anything else? Maybe his house and maybe... a name for his star? What did one name a star? HMMM.

There, that was awfully fanciful, as was befitting a star. Mo admired his handiwork before setting to work cleaning out his jar. First he tried his sleeve, although he kept getting his hand stuck in the jar which was not working for him. Next, he tried a Tergeo, which... wasn't a spell he knew as well as Scourgify, but why NOT try out new spells while holding a fragile glass jar. It seemed to work, though, and Mo set his nice shiny clean jar on the tabletop to admire.

She was still clinging to NOT Jeffery when she saw Mo walk into the lab. She thought for sure he would have grabbed a jar and found himself all the way on the other side but she was pleasantly surprized when he took a spot near her...even if he didn't do it so he could work with her. This she saw as progress because it was perfectly okay to lie to yourself when you were clinging to a star that had been on the brink of death.
Not cool NOT Jeffery!
She watched him curiously for a minute, wondering if she should say hi...no need to if he wasn't going to respond because then she'd wanna break him and she couldn't on account of Vivi telling her not to. In the end she chose to remain quie--

...about her star yelling. "Oh. That. NOT Jeffery nearly died and I didn't want him to die because he's my second star and I didn't want to have to start over again." She looked down at the star that seemed quite content to be in her hands. Well then...
"And you're just starting--or did yours die too making you have to start over??" Was she not alone in all this????
Ooooh! Intro time, because that was a part of star care...socializing...or something like that...She shoved the Jar toward him distracting him from his own empty jar. "NOT Jeffery, this is Mo, Mo this is NOT Jeffery!" Beams! Ah, star care. All in a day's work for her.

Alice had been very excited for this assignment.. until she remembered it involved spellwork. Didn't everything? Everthing except Quidditch, that was. Still, was a bit of a disappointment when she realized she had to clean the jar. But it would be worse for her ickle star to grow up in a dirty home, so she raised her wand, albeit reluctantly, and attempted to cast the spell. "Tergeo." A frown played on her lips as she noticed some spots that still weren't clean. A second go, maybe? "Tergeo!" And there it went. Her frown morphed into a grin as turned back to her notes.
Now she had to.. what, combine hydrogen and helium? The powdery stuff that was, and a spoon. Soon enough, Alice had all three of the materials gathered in front of her. Once she was sure the utensil was spotless, she spooned a bit of helium into the jar. Then she repeated the step just as carefully with the fluffy hydrogen stuff. And then she screwed on her lid as tightly as possible with her Beater strength. Because she was RIPPED, you know. And now.. to create her little star.
SHEWASN'TGONNAMESSITUPNOPE.
Fingere Elementi. That was the incantation her notes had instructed her to use, right? Easy enough, or so she hoped. With a little jab of her wand, she cast the spell. "Fingere Elementi!" Were the gases meant to compress? They were, weren't they? She stared in awe, as the spell seemed to have worked out perfectly fine. And a star was created. There was some sort of GLOW in there. She had made a star. The fourth year gingerly picked up her jar, hugging it close to her body and resting her chin on the lid for a moment before setting it on the counter, far away from any edges. She carefully unrolled her long sleeves, slipping out of the coat and goggles, and yanked up her notes.
And she waved goodbye to her precious little star on the way out.

He adjusted his goggles before turning his attention to those little boxes containing powdered hydrogen and helium. Just one tablespoon full. Was that a heaping spoon or a level spoon? Was it really just a one-to-one ratio and it didn't matter? He was just going with that theory, carefully leveling off first the spoonful of hydrogen before adding it to his jar, and then the spoonful of helium.
And then Lex was talking to him. Mo glanced at her before returning his attention to the jar and its lid. Tightly screwed, probably. "No, I just have been busy and am only just starting now," he shrugged about that. Shrug shrug shrug.
And now for the spell. "Fingere Elementi," Mo pointed his wand at his jar and watched with detached interest as stuff started HAPPENING in his jar. What was Lex on about? "I'm sorry about your first star dying, but you seem to be a pretty decent star mama NOW. And it is very nice to meet NOT Jeffery, I'm sure." Mo gave the jar a bow before turning his own around to reveal his tiny glowing star. "This is Nova."

She got the idea that she might have been interrupting him mid-star creation and all but this was like one of those rare occasions where West decided not to be present and she got to talk to him. Stuff like this didn't happen very often you know.
Needless to say she was a little disappointed that this wasn't his second star. She didn't want to be the only one that went and got her star killed off...that didn't make her look very good and the Professor was probably formulating ideas about her now.
"I was busy too!" This was now her excuse for making Jeffery die. Thanks Mo. "I mean, there was too much stuff to do and I completely forgot about him for like a month or something..." Ahem, moving on to happier things, like him saying she was a super fantastic and unbelievable good Star Mama. Okay...so maybe he didn't say it in so many words but she knew that's what he meant and she grinned. "Thanks! I'm trying extra hard with him!" Even though she couldn't admit it for fear of hurting Jeffery's feelings, she was actually starting to like him. "He's a smart star! Knows how to hold conversations and everything!" She liked the kind where the other person just let her talk and be right...perfect conversationalist he was. Never once did he tell her she was wrong. Cue some major proud beaming.
OH! And lookit! He had his star now!! "Oooooo, newer star," She liked new things...this could be a problem...
Without thinking much of it, she put NOT Jeffery back on the table before turning her full attention to Nova. "Awwwww, ickle star! So cuuuute! And now you're a star parent so you get to sing to her and read her bed times stories and take her on walks around the lab--because really we can't take them out of here, Professor's rules, I don't get them but it's pretty much whatever--right so you can share candy with her and tell her about your day too. I bet she'll be a good listener; not as good as NOT Jeffery of course," Because no one was better than her star, see that NOT Jeffery, she was being a proud star parent. Feeling loved yet?
"So, what will you do first??"

When Alice stepped into the Astrophysics Lab to visit her star again, she still didn't have a name in mind. Naming things was hard, okay? But she had to get to work, so she hurried to the closet and slipped into her oversized large lab coat, rolling up the sleeves and adjusting the goggles over her eyes. The fourteen year old headed over to the counter immediately after putting on her gear, scanning the jars until she found hers. "Hey, there, little star. Today, you get a name. Cool, yeah?" She only had to think of one now. "Uh.. before I choose.. do you have any preferences? Gender or letters or such?" No? Well, then. After a moment or two of silence and staring hard at her creation, Alice finally decided on name. "Okay. I think I've got one. And I spent a LOT of time considering it, too, so you'd better like it."
She was totally earnest about it, too. There was loads of criteria it had to meet, you know. For one, it had to be the name of someone who was very important. Because that's what stars were, right? They were bright and attracted loads of attention. Also, they kind of looked over you. When Alice looked up at the sky, it sort of felt like that. So it had to be the name of someone who kind of watched out for her, but was also awesome and prominent and shined. There were only a handful of people like that. The first name to pop into her head, obviously, was Selina. But her bat was named after the Head Girl, and she knew how the ginger felt about naming things the same, so she thought of another one. And it fit very nicely, if she did say so herself. The fourth year carefully scribbled a name on her label above the line proclaiming that it was HER star. Officially.
Quote:
Hello! My name is Little Dylan.
I am Captain Alice Fischer's star, and if you touch me, she will bite you.
After hugging the jar and resting her chin on the lid as she had before, Alice set it on the counter with the rest of the stars, far away from the edges. "Don't dishonour your namesake, little one, or he will be very cross, mmk?" As usual, she then replaced her ginormous lab coat and goggles in the closet. And then she waaaved goodbye and blew a kiss to her Little Dylan. she would come visit him tomorrow, most definitely.
