| | Astronomy Lesson 1 :: in the Planetarium
The first thing you notice as you enter the dimly lit planetarium is that the dome-shaped projection screen above you shows the night sky with the occasional comet slowly making its way from one side to the other. Try not to get too caught up in looking at the display, however, this is a lesson after all. Professor Flamsteed can be seen standing in front of the planetarium projector wearing a dark khaki colored suit and burgundy tie with a knowing smirk on his face as he waits for students to come filing in. To the right of him on the floor is a box of small pickling jars lined up in neat rows. So come on in, take a seat in one of the comfy chairs, and get yourself situated. The lesson will begin shortly.⌦Lesson Progression
▸First question :: what songs do you know that have a connection to Astronomy?
▸Second question :: shooting stars/falling stars are really called what?
▸Time to SUIT UP! Erm...put on protective gear and get ready for the activity LAST CHANCE TO PLAY CATCH UP
▸Activity instructions :: catch a 'falling star'
▸spell practice :: Fingere Elementi, Dextrini Potitus, Cumugasalis, Deminugasalis, & Crescere Hydrogenenii OOC: Please be sure you are familiar with Professor Flamsteed's rules BEFORE you post in this lesson. We will know if you haven't read them! All SnitchSeeker site rules apply. This lesson has officially begun! Please use the class progression to keep up and IF you wish to do a bit of catch up please do so under a spoiler. |

Law of Inertia? Yep, Sky remembered it well. A body in motion tends to stay in motion. And she just floated in place while Professor Airey proved that it was true, wincing when he hit the wall. That had to hurt, right?
Anyway, she had meteors to catch. Deciding to try to walk instead, she lifted her foot...... and ended up more bouncing than walking. Well, that was okay. Then a sudden thought hit her. A thought too awesome not to try. She lifted her leg again, this time moving it behind her, in a moonwalk motion. To her complete and utter glee, it worked! She was doing the moonwalk! While weightless! "Moonwalking, I'm just moonwalking...." She got to a point where she was close to the wall and thought that she had better turn around. So, she did. The same way she had seen a guy do on television one time. She moonwalked over to the other side of the room before remembering that she was in class and had a task to do.
Right. Two meteors coming up!

Oakey? His wand? Looking around, the blonde spotted it and did a little doggy paddle type movement towards it. Luckily the wand was kind of twirling in her direction too so she was able to meet it in the middle. "Oakey? I've got your wand!" She called out, waving it in the air. Oh...she probably shouldn't do that, yeah? In case she let go of it by accident too. "Can you try and come this way?" Cause despite her best efforts, she wasn't too great at controlling where she was headed. He'd need to help her out on this one.
...
After Oakey's wand situation was sorted out, the blonde returned her focus to a yellow meteor! She was SO going to get one right now. HMPH.
Swim. Swim. Swimmmmmm. "Get into my glove, you meteor."

Sarah was so lost in space and in the awesomest of flying unaided that she was not really concentrating on what she was doing. Her muggle cousins had gone to space and spayed in a space hotel, yet Sarah's mother was so worried about it backfiring th emuggle way she was waiting for wizarding space transport approved by the ministry. Could one even use magic on space? It did not matter to Sarah much now as she was underage, yet she hated the non-magic way.
As mentioned before she was not concentrating and it was only at the last second that she realized that there was a wall looming ominously in front of her... It was too late to turn so Sarah thought were "I wonder if this is like the wall by Kings Cross" before she hit the wall and discovered it was SOLID. Thankfully she was wearing the full gear.

Green eyes followed the blue and yellow shooting stars falling from the ceiling.. or at least they tried to. The meteorites seemed to be falling so fast and his method of getting around the room seemed to be hindering his progress. This swimming through the air, so to speak, was taking some getting used to.
Spotting a rather bright yellow one relatively close by, Ethan pushed his ungloved arm through the air a few times while reaching his glove out in its path. He narrowly missed a student on his way, quickly pushing through the air to move out of the way. In the process, the boy also missed the star. Frustrating.

Melody swam in the air until she found a good spot with lots of blue and yellow activity going on. She glanced around the place to see what others where doing. ACK! Bad choice! She got smacked right in the cheek by one of the meteors. She made some sort of squacking noise while she was kicked back and spun around across the place. Not good now it seemed like she was on a endless spin cycle. At lest she could at lest manage to rub her sore cheek. This had better not be a bruise. A bruise... EW! She was too pretty to have a bruise on her face.
BUMP! Now what? She was so worried about her face she forgot to figure out how stop her self from spinning or at lest to slow down. She also had no clue to who or what she bumped into.

After doing a few somersaults in the air Sarah decided it was high time to get back to business. She was meant to catch meteors... were the ones flying around the real deal or just fake ones? She was not stupid enough to test. She examined her glove, it looked strong. Luckily she still had her wand on her.
She looked around for a blue meteor, there was plenty around as it was a few seconds later that Sarah had her arms in front of her (stream line was great) and trying to make her way over to the meteor. It kept on keeping teasingly just out of reach. She wished she knew a way to speed up. In quidditch you lean forward on a broom and on the ground you run, yet in the air she did not know. In the end she decided just to be patient, if she was too slow for one, perhaps another one would be closer- OUCH! a meteor hit her, quickly, before it got too far Sarah grabbed the blue thing in her hand. Well, now she had it!

| #4 Arts TRANSPONSTER! Sophie had indeed decided to just float around and wait for fate to bring the next meteor for her to grab. 'A blue one, please, fate! I already have the yellow meteor.' She thought to herself as she spun around some more.
The whole Oakey situation got her attention, obviously, but since it was quickly sorted out, she just chuckled and 'moved along'. She actually went nowhere, since she knew her swimming in the air skills were lacking. It was nothing like swiming in the water. At all! No matter how much she tried, she would always go in a complete different direction than the one she intended, so what was the uuuse of trying, really?
No use.
The Hufflepuff found herself near one of the walls this time, and failed in her attempt to hold onto it. There was nothing to hold on to there, so she just touched it with her bare hand and hoped it would stick to the wall as if there was a Gripping Charm there, which there wasn't so, once again, no use. And it was a very odd sensation, since the walls were enchanted and all.
Woooooow.... from that angle it looked like her classmates - and professor and that old man - were swimming in the middle of a meteor shower!
Soooooooooo prettyyyyyyyy!!!

| post 4 and help requested to retrieve the flying glasses Gryffinclaw-Ravendor • The REAL Hermione Granger
Now that she had a blue meteor, it only left the yellow one to catch. She scanned the room. Knowing that it was easier for her to get a meteor that was closer to her and keeping in mind that she held a blue meteor in her hand which she would not like to loose. It would mean catching it all over again. Yet how can she catch the yellow ball with the glove? when she was holding the meteor with that? She decided to try her luck at keeping both in the same glove. Perhaps it would work to transfer the meteor (now cool) to her ungloved hand.. yes that would do. She did that as she began to sing.. "lets go fly like a kite, up to the the highest heights, lets go fly like a kite and like an eagle be soaring. Up through the atmosphere, up where the air is clear, oh lets go, fly like a kite!"
Now that her gloved hand was free she could now actively look for a yellow meteor. Her eyes darted as she calculated distances in order to get to the right one. I t should be closest to. It was only then that Sarah noticed that the others were swimming. AWESOME! She was going to swim too! And there was oxygen so she could frolick and all without having to come up for air... wait, she was meant to get the yellow metoer, speaking of which one was right in front. Sarah paddled first, reached out her gloved hand, scooped up the meteor, yet with the impact it caused Sarah to slaw both her hands on her chest... With her hands no longer there to balance her out, Sarah begin to do somersaults. Around and around she lazily went and then alas, her glasses fell off. Yet she was too nervous to release her hands lest she drop one of her meteors. In the end she did, moving her things all into her gloved hand. It was only after she had clasped her glove shut that she remembered that she had closed in her wand as well. It was too dangerous to release her glove agin in case one of the meteors get away. So she may have to do it without a wand.
After some time of futile looking for her glasses without them (she could see, yet it got blurry as it went into the distance) she decided that she needed help."HI EVERYONE, I MISPLACED... UM DROPPED MY GLASSES. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME GET THEM BACK? THEY HAVE FINGER PRINTED, SMUDGED LENSES, NOT THAT I CARE THAT THEY ARE DIRTY AS I CAN SEE PERFECTLY FINE WITH THEM. I AM UNABLE TO LOOK AS I CANNOT SEE SO WELL WITHOUT THEM. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!" So who cares if people had a problem with the fact that Sarah wore dirty glasses. It did not bother Sarah, and if they ha a problem with it they can clean them thenselves - WHAM! unable to see, a meteor hit Sarah followed by another meteor in quick succession. Oh dear, space flight with limited vision was not easy...
OOC: If they are found, please VM me!

| #5 Arts TRANSPONSTER! That meteor shower kind of thing was really beautiful. Even with those people flying around and faliling and bumping into things and all that. It was still a pretty sight. But... why was no blue meteor coming her way???
Aw... she would have to stop watching and actually go back into action. Welp, not a problem! Flying around with no broom was could be fun. If only she could control where she was going!
Whatevaaaaahhhh!! Sophie pushed the wall and went towards... some place. She didn't really know where she was going and couldn't help but bump into some of her classmates. "Ow... sorry! Ow! So-ow!" Merlin! So many people there!! And so many meteors! How come she couldn't just grab a blue one nooowww!!! Flail flail flail! "I need you, meteooor!" The girl stretched her hand towards a blue meteor that was oddly floating almost next to her. It had probably hit someone and now it had sort of stopped but not really? What was up with that meteor? The badger poked the blue thing with her gloved hand and flailed some more as the meteor flew awaaaaay from her.
Nuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!! She had lost her chance! Whyyy??? Doggie paddle! Doggie paddle! Doggie paddleeeeee!!! That was TIRING!! And she wasn't going in the right directiiion!!!
Sophie stopped flailing and paddling for a bit and floated around. That was a better option. Just float. Float... float... collide. Float... collide again and float some more. And collide! FLAIL FLAIL FLAIL!! She needed to stop bumping into people like that!!
And she needed a blue meteor!! |

Well this was just frustrating. Not as easy as she thought it would be. This no gravity thing really worked against you. Now her shoulder hurt so it made it that much harder. She really had to try harder though. Holding leverage on a chair, which wasn't much help, Min picked a yellow stream to go after.
It wasn't that far from her so she pushed from her chair and hoped she wouldn't kick anyone on her way. Reaching with her glove she moved as fast as no gravity would allow. Stretching as far as she could Minerva felt something hit her glove. Smiling she was so excited to catch one. Doing a little dance, Min frowned a bit. Even dancing wasn't as fun without gravity.

Ella made her way over to the nearest wall and kind of clung on to it as best she could, hoping she could spot the perfect target to go after. She couldn't help but look down and feel a bit nervous about the fact that they really did look like they were floating out in space. It was quite scary. ...And majorly awesome but still.
Oh! There it was, the perfect yellow meteor! BEAM! It was coming towards the blonde badger only a little to the right of where she was currently. All she had to do was kick off, yeah? Kick off from the wall and shoot herself at it like a rocket! ...Rockets. Frown. Yeah, she wasn't going to think about that.
Moving her body as best she could, the fifteen year old got her feet on the wall and bent her knees. 1...2...3...PUSH! And off she flew, glove hand outstretched towards the meteor.
Closer and closer and closer and "I gotcha!"
BEAM! If Ella was on the ground right now she'd probably have done a really silly little victory dance...luckily she was in the air, making dancing kind of touch. The blonde did do a sort of little fist pump thingy though, making her feel a lot like that guy from the Breakfast Club, an old movie her Dad really loved.
Now that she had her second meteor, the badger kind of just floated around, avoiding classmates and other meteors as best she could.

By this point, Theo was sort of facing the ground with his back against the roof. He was frozen in this spot but the meteors were below him, he could see them. And he could see everyone ELSE catching them instead. But enough was enough, Theo pushed himself away from the roof and started to copy some sort of swimming movements that his classmates were doing. Only problem was, he couldn't swim.
But it was okay... it wasn't so bad.
He couldn't DROWN in air, after all. So, NBD, right?
You're a chaser, Theodore. Get a grip. The thought actually helped A LOT, because he realized that Ella Bishop was in the room and most probably judging him with her beautiful little eyes and stuff... He waved his arms about and was getting a good movement.
It was going SO well, the third year was even beginning to enjoy himself! He whirled some more, and dodged a few other kids, and just generally tried to picture this as a different Quidditch match. He just completely forgot about the meteors.
POW. "OUWWWWWWWWW!"

Whoever or whatever Melody bumped into had at lest slowed her down. And with good luck, she had also stopped spinning. Great! Now if she could just figure out how to use the no gravity to her advantage. Wait a moment... what ever she bumped into had helped slow her down. Maybe she could use that to help her go to the direction she wanted to go. Alright, good idea. She swam to a wall. Managed to turn herself around. She waited a moment and floated till she spotted a meteorite that she could get from her angle. She gave herself a few back strokes till he feat touched a wall and then launched herself forward. Weeeeeeeeewoooo! She sped fast and hoped no one bumped in to her to throw her off her path. She put her glove hand out and then...
BOOM! She flew backwards being pushed by the yellow meteorite she had caught. Right into the wall. Ow! She sighed not stupid enough to try that one again. At lest she got one. She needed help getting this moving around thing pack. But she was still too prideful. She didn't want to ask for help. However, if asked she guess she would admit it just to get the blue one. For now she felt like not trying to get the blue one. She decided to float instead.

Ethan sighed. This was a lot harder than it looked. Was there some sort of trick to it? He looked around, noticing other students catching stars.. then he had an idea. Maybe if he propelled himself off of that wall, he might have an easier time pushing through the air. His coordination didn't seem to be all there today.
He started to swim towards the closest wall when he heard someone shouting rather loudly about glasses or something. Turning in the direction of the girl, Ethan felt something hard and hot hit him on the side of his head, just behind his ear. Obviously one of the meteors, he thought, as he brought up his ungloved hand to rub the sore spot. Oh wait.. that rock had been pretty hot.. it didn't singe his hair right there, did it?
Panicking slightly, Ethan glanced around the area and spotted Minerva not too far away. He swam over towards her and said in a hushed voice, "Hey Min.. my hair isn't burnt here, is it? A meteor hit me.." The boy gestured to the spot a bit behind his ear. He couldn't really tell without looking.
Ok, this activity was starting to lose its appeal. Not only was he failing miserably at catching these shooting stars but now his hair might have been burned in the process. Wait.. didn't someone say something about glasses? Ethan vaguely watched as a pair lazily floated past him and he stuck out his hand to catch them. Sure, he could catch glasses but apparently not stars..

Nope, yellow one. akjfgnksnglkjfg She already had caught a yellow meteor!!! Gaaahhhh!!!

No! She was an honest girl! She wouldn't change the meteor colour just because she was FAILING and couldn't get a-
BLUE METEOR COMING HER WAY YES!!! Grabby gloved haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand!! "Yaaaaaaaaaaa-OW!" The silly blue meteor hit her right in the faaaaaaaace!!! Good thing she was wearing that gear stuff, so it actually got stuck in the helmet thingy and not her actual face. Cool!
She had her blue meteor noow!!! Woop!
The fourth year tried using her gloved hand to take the meteor from the helmet grid but... she couldn't get it off.
Welp! She had both of her meteors with her anyway! GRIN! Only, now she was having a harder time avoiding other students, since she couldn't see what was in front of her all that well. La de daa... |

Jory braced himself for the meteor to land in his hand. He kept his eyes on them, just in case he had to move towards or away from the cluster.
The meteor, the yellow one, was on the farther side of the set. That was good because it would be easier to catch. Closer and close they came... until-
The badger caught it! "Yes!'' he exclaimed, the meteor in his gloved hand. He held it up in the air. he had caught both colours now. He was so pleased, he didn't even realise he was drifting. Drifting right towards Minerva. He collided with her left shoulder. "Minerva!'' the boy called out. "So sorry!'' |

With her fingers holding onto the side of the projector, Alyssa pulled with all her might. Her body slowly moved towards the side but she was still upside down and not out of danger. Alyssa reached out with her other hand before remembering that it was wearing a baseball glove and holding two meteors and therefore couldn't use her fingers to help hold on. She would have bitten off the glove with her teeth, if she wasn't wearing a helmet!!
Alyssa was now discovering that wearing protection gear was becoming hazardous to her health. Her only option now was to try to hold on to the projector with her ungloved hand while trying to maneuver around using the other. She slowly moved her gloved hand around and hooked it around the other. Using her arms, she pulled first her body out of the way of the meteors that quickly flew by her. She felt a few graze by her feet but none of them hit her directly. 'Whew! Now that was a close call. Now to straighten out.' Alyssa thought to herself.
Once her body was as close to the projector as she possibly could, Alyssa slowly moved her hands around the edges while moving her body at the same time. She was going to go all Spidey and walk along the projector until she was floating upright again. Clutching onto the projector, she angled her body this way and that, until she began to straighten out. 'I do hope that this projector is strong enough to withstand my pulling on it. I definitely don't want to bring it crashing down on someone. That would be a bad no no.' Alyssa thought to herself.
Now that she had straightened out, Alyssa slowly unhooked her gloved hand, taking great care not to drop the two meteors and slowly pushed off from the projector with her ungloved one. Now she was drifting to vertically towards the wall of the Planetarium...which wasn't a bad thing because that just meant she would be out of everyone's way.

Now that he had calmed himself out of his little panic attack, that apparently nobody cared about, Theo was kinda getting into this. It was kinda FUN... And it was even better that he was so small because he missed most things. That worked to his advantage in Quidditch also.
His only obstacle was flinching every time a meteor went near him. But they wouldn't exactly HURT would they?
That would be dangerous.
But then again, this professor seemed like a dodgy professor so maybe.
There was one that his eyes were fixed on, so he tried with all of his might to swim towards it. But it took a LOT of upper body strength. Theodore was in no mood for so much effort. He got closer and closer to the blue meteor and... HE CAUGHT IT.
Like a top-notch seeker. Watch out Alec Summers. Stupid seeker.
He thrust the meteor into the air, like a winner would do, but oh, he dropped it. Whoooooosh, there it goes, right into the hands of another loser.
ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM. Follow that meteor!

Eeeeeeek!
Peyton kicked at nothing, dodging a meteor that headA her way. They were toooo fast and coming from every direction! The redhead almost seemed as if she was dancing in the air. Her helmet was beginning to slide to the side too. It was biiig.
She fixed it, hoping it'll stay on while she attempted to catch a meteor. Ohhhh! Look!
There were like a thousand more like ten meteors heading her way. Okay. This was it. She was going to get herself a meteor no matter what. Peyton held her gloved hand infront of her, her brows knitted together in concentration.
Eeeeeeek!
Peyton almost coward away when some meteors rushed pass her. Suddenly, something hit her gloved hand and she instinctively closed it around it. SHE DID IT! She caught a meteor! "Yaaaaay!" It was a blue one too!
While the snake celebrated she forgot about the rest of the meteors and, "Owwwwhoohoo!" She got hit on the side of her thigh. It didn't hurt THAT much, but pain was pain. She made a motion of hoping, though it only seemed like she was flailing.
She was still happy, though. She caught a meteor. A blue one.

| Post 4 Stephanoodle || Adorable Nerd Belle was glad to see the professor was doing fine. Even though he had a stain on his suit. Belle wondered why the professor was always protective and worrying over his suit. She would ask that later on. She had to focus on finding the yellow or blue meteorite.
Belle saw it on the other side of the classroom. Belle wanted to try some tricks. She did some flips and corkscrews. Belle felt free and was getting great at doing the stunt tricks. She was giggling with glee. Then she got her glove ready. She was going to catch this yellow one that was in her sights. Belle saw it and was swimming. She was going to catch it. She had to. She reached her hand and then. GASP. SHE CAUGHT IT!!! WOOOOOHOOO! "YES!" Belle said punching her arm in the air.
She was so excited, she finally caught the yellow meteor after all. Her snitch seeking skills did not die down after all. Then before she realized it, she was going to the wall. Belle eyes widened O__O. She did not want to bump into it again. Then she swerved and missed it by inches.

Once Oichi was fully on track she kicked hard and started to swim vigerously through the air. She saw a red ball and slowed down. She reached out her gloved hand carefully. She did not want to do another flip in this attempt to catch the ball. She grabbed for the ball and this time she got it. She swam to the the drop off area and put the ball there. Now there was just the yellow ball.

The room was spinning...or was she spinning? Nina was feeling a bit sick but that was NOT going to stop her from catching meteors.
She tried to catch one but someone did it first, she growled and continued floating avoiding hitting anybody. The Slytherin felt like a bird and moved her arms like they were wings which helped a lot because it was easier to move. But then someone bumped into her, she hit the wall and then a meteor came her way, she wasn't expecting this and quickly kicked the wall to move away. That was close....but....
THAT WAS A METEOR! Follow. It.
Alright now it was time to catch them all. Just two. And there she saw one with her gloves ready she swam across the room, eyes fixed on a blue meteor and reaching her hand to catch it....she...missed it. This was hard. Hmm.

Dylan listened to the professor's looonnnngggg explanation of what he had already told them individually, he then looked at the boxes that the professor had pointed at. They were going to do a whatnow? No.. way! they were actually going to do that? ok this professor was so far the best! Last year they shot rockets into the sky!! that was really awesomely cool! But sorry professor.. this guy in a suit just even beat that record of yours. He now had the awesomest class so far of this term! He put his things into that box since he didnt want to stick things to him and hinder his progress of whatever it was that they were going to do.
He put on his protective gear before he waited to see what the professor was saying next, he didnt hold onto anything as he saw others doing in fact he just went up and he put on his glove and go ready to play some ball! He looked around and saw that the stars were speeding by real fast, and he followed one with his eyes when he felt a great big thump on the side of his head that rang in his ears for quite some time "Oww.. not how I was expecting this to go" he said to himself as he then looked for another once he had gotten over the initial surprise of that bombarding one!
He watched as he saw people bumping into each other like asteroids in space.. see he knew what those rock things were.. they were people.. lost in space and constantly bumping into each other. Soooo.. over years those people became rocks.. right? and now those rocks were.. returning home.. cause those people had to come from somewhere.. so they came from here.. got lost up there.. and those.. meteor things were just people returning home. That was kinda awesome.. he would have to ask his maternal uncle about that.. being a muggle he would know more about those assssteroids.. and meteors.. and things! He was now actually interested! Thanks professor!

Okay okay everything was good. You ARE going to catch them, if everyone had she certainly could too.
Nina continued swimming across the room, it felt so relaxing she could take a nap just there but she had a task and time was running so better be done with it. Meteors were everywhere and she just needed two. TWO. Now it was time to really catch one. Failure was a no-no.
She spotted a yellow one this time but instead of going straight to it, she let herself float until her back was against the roof and then pushed away and….
.…The meteor was close…her hand…the glove…sheeee….CAUGHT IT.
One down, one more to go.

Dylan then tried to get himself to float towards one yellow one that he had his eye on when he suddenly saw a blue one coming straight for him, so he decided that he should try and avoid it by quickly swimming to the other side of the room where he could avoid that blue and find the yellow one he had his eye on all this time. So he floated as fast as he could and he looked backwards to see where the blue one went and saw that it wasnt coming behind him, he was relieved but at the same time he wasnt watching where he was going and... THUMP!!
Straight into a wall that he was sure was floating around, why couldnt the professor have cushioned those walls or something.. OR even better stuck like pillows and stuff to the walls so that they wouldnt hurt as much. He would have known that they would hurt people that bumped into them cause those things were hard and stuff.. made of things that hurt when bumped into.. and making it hard to catch those wonderful balls that are stars. He was now a little sore from the wall that had thumped him and he was sooo going to get his payback from that wall. He would thump the wall back and see how it likes it..just as he was about to do this he saw a star whizz right past him and he got distracted and he went after that little star.
