Default Astronomy Lesson 1 :: in the Planetarium

The first thing you notice as you enter the dimly lit planetarium is that the dome-shaped projection screen above you shows the night sky with the occasional comet slowly making its way from one side to the other. Try not to get too caught up in looking at the display, however, this is a lesson after all. Professor Flamsteed can be seen standing in front of the planetarium projector wearing a dark khaki colored suit and burgundy tie with a knowing smirk on his face as he waits for students to come filing in. To the right of him on the floor is a box of small pickling jars lined up in neat rows. So come on in, take a seat in one of the comfy chairs, and get yourself situated. The lesson will begin shortly.
Lesson Progression
First question :: what songs do you know that have a connection to Astronomy?
Second question :: shooting stars/falling stars are really called what?
Time to SUIT UP! Erm...put on protective gear and get ready for the activity LAST CHANCE TO PLAY CATCH UP
Activity instructions :: catch a 'falling star'
spell practice :: Fingere Elementi, Dextrini Potitus, Cumugasalis, Deminugasalis, & Crescere Hydrogenenii
OOC: Please be sure you are familiar with Professor Flamsteed's rules BEFORE you post in this lesson. We will know if you haven't read them! All SnitchSeeker site rules apply. This lesson has officially begun! Please use the class progression to keep up and IF you wish to do a bit of catch up please do so under a spoiler.

AHA! Here we go! "BINGO!" Airey said as he jumped up on to the platform again. He would have jumped on her desk, but he didn't trust her. She HAD lied to him about his suit and he was still debating in his head about proper punishment. "A meteor, yes! Or a meteoroid that has entered the Earth's atmosphere." Because those two were the same thing. And THIS is where things got a bit confusing.

"Very good all of you! While other relevant astronomical bodies where also mentioned, the one I was looking for was a meteor. Just to recap a bit. What people refer to as a shooting star begins its existence as a meteoroid which is a solid object, space debris moving in interplanetary space that is less than 1 mile in size. It becomes a meteor when it has entered the Earth's atmosphere and creates a visible path of the meteoroid across the sky and lasts about a fraction of a second. This visible path is what is referred to as a shooting or falling star." He paused for a moment to allow students to catch up with their notes and to let all this sink in. "A meteoroid that has passed through the Earth's atmosphere and made it all the way to the ground, surviving the impact, is called a meteorite. Many of your classmates brought up meteor showers. These are when many meteors appear seconds or minutes apart and seem to originate from the same fixed point in the sky." And it just so happened that there would be a surprise for them all at the end of the term. Best not mention that now though seeing as he needed students to be alert for this activity. "So, shooting or falling stars are not real stars at all. Stars are made up of gases, as I explained to Miss Potter earlier." Bits of information that would become very VERY important here in a moment. "Shooting or falling stars are essentially just small rocks flying through the atmosphere really fast. As Miss Phillips mentioned, in relation to the song I assume, one probably does not want to actually try and catch them."

Cue a pause for dramatic effect as he looked around the classroom and made eye contact with each student.

"HOWEVER! That is precisely what we are going to do!" WASN'T THIS EXCITING?!

With another wave of his wand, the lyrics to Catch a Falling Star vanished from over head and soon what could only be described as a meteor shower appeared in its place. Only there was something different about this shower as the streaks of light zooming across the room were two very distinct colors - blue and yellow.

Airey stood in front of the students with a smirk on his face that just seemed to get bigger and bigger with each passing moment. Heh. THIS was going to be fun.

"I would like you all now to, if you have not brought one yourself, to please grab a muggle baseball glove from this box," he said as he levitated a large cardboard box filled with gloves of all sizes for students to see. "When you have a glove I would like you to also put on this protective gear," he continued as he levitated another box with gear in each house's respective colors. "Once you have your glove and gear on please come and stand in front of the projector. Oh...you...um...you may want to use a Sticking Charm on your things, or if you are not confident in your Charms abilities you can put your things in this box and pick them up at the end of the lesson." Airey indicated an empty box to the right of the one containing all of the protective gear. "And no, we will not be playing baseball."

That was for Muggle Studies.

"So, hop to it!"
OOC: I am so sorry for the delay everyone! Two week old baby had a few fussy days along with a hospital appointment so those kept me away from all you lovely people *wibbles* Please RP your character grabbing the proper equipment and following Professor Flamsteed's instructions. Activity instructions will be posted in a few hours.

WHY WAS HE LOOKING AT HER LIKE THAT?

Alice warily EYED the professor back. He was jumpy, wasn't he? Hopping from the platform to the floor and.. what was he on about now? Baseball? She had no idea what that was, and was even more clueless when he brought out those ridiculous looking gloves. They looked like exploded hands. Swollen, exploded, squishy hands. And those weird costumes.. gear, she meant. Protective gear. She was still listening intently, though, as the man continued on, and.. wait, they were going to catch a star?

This man was insane, wasn't he? Truly, madly insane.

Nevertheless, Alice obliged and dumped all of her belongings in the Gryffindor box. Because she.. charms.. yeah, no. And then she grabbed a glove thing from the box and slipped it on. After somehow managing to crawl into one of those creepy gear costumes, she went and stood in front of the projector.

"What NOW, Professor?" Beam. She was EAGER, mmhmm.

Oh...wheelchair... Airey was going to have to charm that to the floor here in a bit. Probably the old man as well.

Giving the man a nod in greeting, Airey turned back to Miss Fischer and...lost his train of thought due to the distraction of the other observer making their appearance. What had he been talking about again? Or...where had he left off in his response to her?
"Can I participate, too, sir?" It felt kind of weird calling someone younger than him 'sir', to Sherman, but it was easy to fall into the rhythm of the class. AND. He wanted to work with the children! The whole point of running for the Board, for him, at least, was to learn more and improve the children's education. And the only way he could do that was if he was up to date on their class topics, right?

Sherman wheeled over to the gloves and gingerly plucked one out of the box, slipping it onto his hands. HE knew what they were, yes, being a Muggleborn wizard and all. Protective gear, too? He hobbled out of his wheelchair when putting it on, leaning on a desk for support while doing so. And then he crawled back into his wheelchair, maneuvering it around the room and towards the projector.

Yes. What now, professor? The old man stared intently at Airey, not blinking an eye. He was eager, TOO, y'know.

Sky had decided to sit out the previous question since she had been about to say meteor anyway. Instead, she took notes as Professor Airey was replying to her classmates answers. Once it was time for the activity, however, she jumped up, performed the sticking charm on all of her things, then sauntered over to the box of protective gear. Where she had her first mini freak out of the term. "But none of these are purple," she wibbled quietly. She wanted purple protective gear! Sighing and deciding that she would just have to deal, she grabbed some out of the box, carefully put it on, then walked over to the gloves. Picking out one that seemed almost new, she slipped her hand into it and waited for the next set of instructions.

BURNING BLUDGERS were they really going to catch those? What like hey lets play a game of Quidditch with a freaking fireball? Right...though fire-quidditch sounded like a good way to learn how not to get hit with a bludger.

Now this wasn't something just anyone could say they attempted...besides astronauts but they didn't do it wearing simple protective gear and being awesome. They'd use big machines and spacey-things.

She stood up and walked over to where the protective equipment was standing and grabbed it. She just hoped they wouldn't be on brooms while doing this - you know controlling where you are going when trying to not get knocked out by stupid hot rocks was probably a hard thing to do.

"Well I hope we don't encounter any bolides then when trying to catch these" she smiled a wary smile. She knew one time or another today she'd probably pass out.

Ellura hadn't registered the fact that the Perry Cuomo song could lead into the actual lesson activity. Or that a falling star was anything but a star crossing the sky in some way shape or form. A meteor or meteorite...THATs what it was? So cool! The third year copied down the information into her notes to show what she had learned in even the short time she had been in the class today.

And now for the activity.

She listened to Professor Flamsteed as the man described what he wanted them all to do before hand. The Gryffindor would certainly need to borrow a baseball glove since she hadn't brought one to the class...hadn't brought one to Hogwarts in the first place. And then protective gear was needed as well.

Just what would they be doing to mimic the catching of falling stars the professor mentioned?

Whatever it was, Ellura picked herself up from her seat and gathered her belongings including her notes back into her bag and headed to the front. She certainly didn't trust her sticking charms...didn't know that charm yet actually. Setting it down inside the box they had been told to, she retrieved her set of Gryffindor gear and put it on before taking ahold of a glove and moving to stand by the projector.

Ready for whatever was to come.

They were gonna catch falling sta- er, meteors? That should be fun! Right?

Penelope looked up and stared for a moment when she saw the yellow and blue lights soaring through the sky. Ohh, that was pretty. But then the professor was speaking again, so she dragged her eyes away from those for now.

The third year didn't own a baseball glove herself, so she got up and grabbed one of the ones he had brought. Then she picked out some protective gear for herself and quickly put it and the glove on, feeling like this activity HAD to be pretty fun and exciting if they actually had to have protective gear on. Unless he was just being over protective of them all and the activity would be super easy and harmless. But he was a Gryffindor, so that couldn't be it, right?

And now...her things. Penelope felt like maybe she should get some practice in with the Sticking Charm thing, but...meh, this was Astronomy, not Charms. She could take a little break from her work-hard-at-mastering-spells plan for right now, yeah? Yeah. So she picked up her bag with her things in it and dropped it in the box the professor had indicated.

They were...going to...catch falling ROCKS?!

...but didn't they need a cauldron strapped to the top of their heads for this? Or, was that Creaothceann? Yeah, that was Creaothceann...

She grabbed a Muggle baseball glove, because Merlin only knew she didn't have one of those herself, and then she began the process of collecting the protective gear. Once she had all the pieces to it, she put it on, although, she wasn't sure that was done exactly the right way, and then turned in the professor's direction.

Heading back to her belongings, she packed them in her bag and then used a sticking charm just as the professor had suggested. With that done, she took a spot in front of the projector.

Merlin, help her...

Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket? Did that mean that what they caught with those Muggle catching mitts was going to be something that Mo could tuck away in his pocket for KEEPING? Mo pondered all the many uses of a meteorite as he fastened his bag and stuck it firmly to the floor.

But why... was he ask them to do this part? Was the floor going to drop out on them?

Mo meandered up to examine the Ravenclaw-blue protective gear that the professor had provided. It looked cumbersome and heavy, but considering what they were going to be doing... it was probably still a good idea. The Ravenclaw third year struggled into the gear, although he left the mask up for the time being.

'Merlin!....and I thought I was long winded!!' Alyssa thought to herself as she tried to grasp what Professor Airey was saying as he first replied to her answer and then explained to the rest of the class what his version of the phenomenon was. Alyssa tried to write down everything as fast as she could. She only stopped when the Professor finally took a breath and finished his explanation.

Shaking her writing hand to allow the flow of blood back into it, she listened as the Professor gave his next set of instructions. 'Okay....now we're supposed to be on this gear and put a sticking charm on our stuff? What in Merlin's name are we going to do now?' Alyssa thought to herself as she walked up, picked up a baseball glove from the box and the protective gear with her house colors on it.

Walking back to her things, she packed her writing material and journal back into her backpack. Then she unholstered her wand, pointed it at her backpack and said, "ADHAERO". 'Now that should keep it from going anywhere.' Alyssa thought to herself. Once she had holstered her wand, she began putting on her protective gear. Next, she put on the baseball glove before making her way to stand in front of the projector and waited for the others.

'Let the games begin!!'

Looking around the planetarium for any other hands that may be raised before checking his sundial again. Yep, it was time to move on.

OH DEAR MERLIN! YES!

Heh. Thank you, Professor Flamsteed. We also hope people were listening.

What do you mean they were going to catch shooting stars?! Which, weren't shooting stars, but yeah, whatever.

Oh. Sticking charms. Lottie smirked. She knew them very well. Those were excellent for pranking people, didn't you know? Hogwarts students, of course, because magic outside of Hogwarts was a definite and resound NO.

HOWEVER, what if something happened? She - most decidedly - placed her things in the box...and suited up. It was the most uncomfortable thing. That suit. Not the glove, really, but she didn't truly enjoy the protective gear.

Nevertheless, here we are, smiling sweetly, waiting for more instructions.

Ready to catch meteors. ^^

"We see from these lyrics several connections to astronomy. The more obvious connection is the use of star. It is also connected in that it shows man's curiosity of the cosmos and even gives a little bit of scientific explanation as to when most stars are visible in the sky. Most because there was a very VERY big star, our sun, that is most visible during the day because the Earth is rotating around it. When our part of Earth faces it, the sun's blue light - the same light that makes the sky blue, mind you - is so bright that it makes all other stars appear to vanish. BUT ANYWAY! I want you all to take a moment to think about what songs you know that you think have a connection to astronomy. Muggle and wizarding music, it doesn't matter. No connection is too small! Please only share one song please. No need to go into too much detail as to why it connects to astronomy. You may sing a few verses as well if you wish. " In fact, he highly encouraged it. "Oh, and if you could please say your name before you answer I would appreciate it."

And for those students who were probably rolling their eyes at this exercise, the was a point to be made! A very valid point in fact. Yep.
OOC: this lesson has officially begun! Please do NOT post your student arriving after this post or else risk losing points for your house. Please just pretend as though you have been here all along!

You can use a real song or make one up! Try not to repeat the same answer as someone else and be creative! There is no right or wrong answer to this question This lesson will hopefully continue tomorrow around noon GMT+9.
Nerida smiled towards the Professor as he said Hello to her. They could call him Professor Airey?? Sweet!! She took her parchment and her quill out and got ready for taking notes just like the Professor suggested. He worked at NASA?? Everything was cool about this Professor. And he could sing! Amazingnesss!! They would have to sing?? What if she didn't sing well?? She had never sang in front of anyone!! Except her family..And they told her she sand good...They had to lying right!! She raised her hand. "Nerida Eventide." though he already knew that. "I dont remember the first part though..." She took a breath and started.. Everything would be good...
"Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at nine hundred miles an hour
That's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned
A sun that is the source of all our power

The sun and you and me and all the stars that we can see
Are moving at a million miles a day
In an outer spiral arm, at forty thousand miles an hour
Of the galaxy we call the 'milky way'

Our galaxy itself contains a hundred billion stars
It's a hundred thousand light years side to side
It bulges in the middle, sixteen thousand light years thick
But out by us, it's just three thousand light years wide

We're thirty thousand light years from galactic central point
We go 'round every two hundred million years
And our galaxy is only one of millions of billions
In this amazing and expanding universe

The universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding
In all of the directions it can whizz
As fast as it can go, the speed of light, you know
Twelve million miles a minute and that's the fastest speed there is

So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure
How amazingly unlikely is your birth
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space
'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth..."

As she finished she added, "The song is by Monty Python.. I think its called the Galazy Song." She could remember everything else except the beginning how did that happen??

With a quick tap of his wand on the projector, lyrics written in bold white text appeared on the domed ceiling over the night sky for students to read. "As you may have been able to infer from all this, the theme of this term is stars and today we will be focusing on something rather special. A star that isn't really a star but has been mislabeled as one by humans. Often called shooting stars or falling stars like in the song, there is a proper name for this phenomena. Can anyone tell me what that is?"
OOC: it is alright to repeat answers here. Your student character doesn't have to answer either if IC it would make more sense for them not to know which Airey is talking about. Points are not awarded for correct answers only This lesson will continue in hopefully 15 hours.

Catch up posts are allowed if you missed a question, but PLEASE put it under a spoiler tag or else you will not receive credit for your efforts.
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket. She remembered seeing that in a movie somewhere...The Diaries Princess something.. Real name of a falling star... "Erm.. Is a falling star's proper name a meteorite?" She knew she probablly shouldn't have answered with a question but she wasn't so confident with her answer.

They were going to what?????!!! She picked up her bag and looked for her baseball glove. Where was it?? She rummaged for it...How hard could it be to find, it was a purple and pink baseball glove! Put on protective gear... WOAH catching a falling...Meteor?? Blue protective gear, sweet. After putting her protective gear on she grabbed her glove and went and stand in front of the projector. After setting her things in the box. She trusted people... Plus she was too lazy to do the sticking charm...

Kanna scribbled down important points of information as the Professor talked. After he wrapped up his length of explanation, she withdrew her wand-- extremely confident in her charms abilities, thank you-- performed a sticking charm on each of her items, except the glove, and happily left her seat and strapped on the protective gear. Okay. This was a first. But she worked it! She was ready. She flexed the glove on her hand, making sure it was comfortable, and awaited further instruction.

Lady Pevensie.

Tiffany blinked as the professor addressed in this way. That made her sound a lot older than before. Even older when she was addressed as 'Miss' right? The word 'lady' was only used for her mum. "That sounds a lot older, Prof,"she pouted. "I am just Tiffany." Yea, just Tiffany. She was a girl, but not a woman or lady or miss or mrs.

Back to what they were focusing right now. So she made a wrong focus on the lyrics? Was she supposed to talk about how the sun and the stars relate to each other instead of talking about relationship? "Well...those lyrics tell us about the cycle of a day..."she replied. "How the sun comes out when the stars fall back and vice versa. The universe consists of the sun and the stars that indicates our days and nights." Was she right this time?

Falling star.

Tiffany remembered that she once read a book which was about this topic. She loved watching shooting star in the sky as she was told that wishes would come true afterwards. Although she didn't believe they were actually going to come true, she was interested in knowing more about them.

"They are actually meteoroids..."she recited. "...and as they enter the atmosphere, they become meteors."

"Once you have your glove and gear on please come and stand in front of the projector. That was for Muggle Studies.

"So, hop to it!"

Was this real?!!!!! Were they literally actually going to catch a falling star?!!

The lioness stared at the professor, trying to find out if he was simply kidding or playing a trick on them that he would end up jumping in front of her and laughing at them if they were taking it seriously. But he didn't seem like he was joking at all. It was real. They were really going to catch a falling star. But how could they do it? Even though the song he had just sung was something about catching one but she still doubted that.

Making her way to the box containing protective gears, she took out her dad's baseball glove. She fit herself in one of those gears in red and stood in front of the projectors, waiting for further instructions after putting all her other belongings inside the empty box. If they were going to catch a shooting star with their bare hands or simply with the protection of gloves, it was definitely going to hurt...very badly. "Will it hurt?"she asked him with her arms crossed.

Somehow this Professor loved to pause suddenly then looked very excited without any reason. Weird, he thought. And now, what would they do after this? Gary just watched Flamsteed levitated a box which was full of.. Baseball gloves.

We're going to play Baseball? He wondered since the other box was full of.. protective gear that usually used by the Catchers in Baseball team. Well, they were not playing baseball actually. He put on the protective gears and gloves, then casted the sticking charm on his bag as the Professor had mentioned before and finally standing in front of the projector. What will be do now? He asked to himself. Just hoped it will be.. Interesting.

Bring it on, Slytherin!

However, as logical as your words may seem, I am sad to say that they do not exist. When an asteroid enters the Earth's atmosphere it becomes a meteor and if it makes impact with the ground it is a meteorite. Some people will say that it was a single asteroid impact that killed the dinosaurs over 65 million years ago, but the more correct wording would be that a single meteorite impact that killed the dinosaurs." He gave the boy another nod. "I like your thinking though, Mr. Odessa. Take 2 points." Even if it hadn't been correct.

Looking around the planetarium for any other hands that may be raised before checking his sundial again. Yep, it was time to move on.

West looked at the professor suspiciously. Wasn't he working in multiples of fives? Why two? Why any for that matter? And why did that one girl who wasn't even a Slytherin get points when she hadn't really said anything at all, so how could it be excellent thinking? Something was weird here. West was on to you, Airey Flamsteed.

He tilted his head back to look up again, noting the blue and yellow streaks across the display and listening about gloves and gear and sticking stuff. Wait what? The professor got another suspicious look. Why would they need to stick their stuff?

"Are you gonna make us float through a anti-gravity mist to catch meteors professor?" Because why else would their stuff need securing? Actually West hoped he was on to something since that could be kind of fun right? Like flying without a broom. He perked up again.

But still, #notsureifprofessorbrilliantorjuststupid.

Oh yeah, and getting stuff. His things went in the box, and then West grabbed a glove and green protective gear, then began suiting up like a boss.

Awesome! So she had been right about the whole meteor thing. Well, that was encouraging on a lot of levels. At least she knew that she would not be totally lost on this whole lesson- whatever the lesson was of course. As of right now all they had really done was mortify Selina into having her sing, WHICH she was never doing again. Ugh, she had to stop thinking about the whole singing nonsense. It was QUITE literally going to make her hurl if she thought about it. The Head Girl was rather sensitive about singing. She was just THAT bad at it.

And then things took a turn for the weird, if the turn had already not been made back at the singing. Suit-man wanted them to catch falling stars. Um, maybe she was wrong and she hoped that she was, but weren't stars really, really hot? Merlin, hot enough to burn them? Yes, she was not exactly KEEN on loosing her hand before the first game of the season. Quidditch was rather important, you know.

But that was not the point right now; no, the point was that suit man wanted them to catch falling stars. That was a hazard and she wasn't sure if the badge on her chest meant she had to address it was a hazard. Merlin, when she was captain all she had to do was enforce hazardous things. Now she might have to prevent them, well, that was no fun. Hmph.

SO she decided to keep it to herself and with a small spring in her step she threw on the glove and the protective gear and uttered, "Adhaero." But then the thought crossed her mind once more about the QUIDDITCH thing.. she could NOT get hurt before the first game of the season or even practices. She did not have time for that. Raising her hand, she said sort of bluntly, "Sir, this isn't going to hurt us, yeah?" They had, after all, just lost TWO Professors the year before. No casualties this year please.

Wow. This Professor talked a lot. Like A LOT. Thus, Beezus' attention was fully into him so as not to miss any important points that he might have mentioned. Certain regard on the difference between the terms noted by her classmates. So, the astronomical debris is termed meteoroid but is called meteor or meteorite once it enters the Earth's atmosphere and comes in contact with the ground. The path it traces on the sky as it paves its way down to the ground that could last for a fraction of second is what's referred to as the shooting or falling star.

Okay. Okay. Understood.

And they were precisely going to do what?! PRECISELY WHAT? O.O

Holy snitch! Were they going to do what she thought they were going to do? Omg. HOLYSNITCHBLOODYQUAFFLEAMAZEBALLS! They were going to catch meteors? Of course, not real ones, right? This was going to be awesome! Her eyes widen out of excitement and her lips curved into a broad smile.

Hastily, the Ravenclaw grabbed a glove from the box before slipping into a blue protective gear that Professor Flamsteed had provided for them. And yes, sticking charm. Mhmm!

Then she stood in front of the projector. She was a Chaser, so she was going to catch anything aimed in her direction.

Ready when you are, Flamz.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Daichi had given up taking notes a long time ago for the Professor seemed to talk too long, too fast and which so much excitment that the Prefect was curious what they were going to do. He did not answer the shooting star questions since the other students were already answering them.

Hearing a younger Slytherin (West) asking about anti-gravity, the Prefect turned his head first to the boy and then to the Professor because he thought it was a good question. And he kinda wished there would be , cause it would be fun...atleast Daichi thought so~ And it was a perfect way to practise for Quidditch. So Bring It ON!

Oh right...the gear.

Daichi jumped off his seat and grabbed a glove to put it on. He also went to place his stuff in a box since he did not trust his Charms abilities...not after he had failed his OWL. The Slytherin dressed up in a suit and stood in front of the projector.

Chaser skillz here it comes!

Laura did as the Professor told her to do, she was a bit scared that the Professor was telling her they were going to catch things, that was a bit scary but she didn't care, she was really good at catching things and she was sure she needed to do it.

Laura smiled at the Professor as she walked over to where she had been asked to go, she was so going to catch as many things as she could and show the Professor how awesome she was at catching.

Shooting star... Sarah had mentioned it, yet it was shrouded in extra information, she was going to tell him about meteor and how thetrail of fire behind the rocket is called a shooting star... when he moved onto the next question.
Sarah also wanted the points the other girl got, why was the teacher satisified with the other girls answer and even gave her points when Sarah had given a lot of information and got a WRONG! Then Sarah got it, the teacher expected more of her then the other student. The teacher knew that she could do better, yet for the other girl it was harder to even get to mediocre level!!!!!! That explained it.

The teacher then basically repeated what Sarah had said... oh what ever.

She went to get a baseball glove and put it on her hands. This glove was HUGE! And bulky and tough. What were they going to be doing with it anyway? She had to take it off however in order to puut on all the protective gear. In the lion colours. Perhaps they were going through a minefield of Edwards boys, the brothers that punch hou when you annoy them them.
She wondered how strong her gear was anyway? Oh yeah the sticking chamr, Sarah reached for her wand and preformed the charm on her satchel (zipped up), her shoes... Did she need to also put it on her clothes? She hoped not.

Oooooooh blazing comets. Airey wasn't so sure that this was the best idea to allow someone as, um, fragile as Mr. Clark participate in this activity. It wasn't going to be too dangerous - nothing like what he had experienced in Care of Magical Creatures as a student - but still. "If you want to, Mr. Clark, by all means please do!" Because really, who was he to deny the man the opportunity to experience and feel astronomy with students?

He would just be keeping an extra eye on him to make sure that nothing went wrong.

"Will it hurt?"she asked him with her arms crossed.

Airey shook his head. "The meteors," he began, using air quotes around the word meteor as he spoke. "...will not be able to cause any serious injuries to you. They will be moving rather quickly bath and forth across the room in true 'shooting star' fashion, but if one were to hit you the worst that would happen is you would get a rather nasty looking bruise."

No broken bones. No hair on fire. No cracked ribs. Nothing life threatening. Just the sort of feeling one would get from whacking their knee really REALLY hard on the edge of a table.

"Precisely, Mr. Odessa," Airey replied with a slight eyebrow wiggle. No mist would be involved though. Heh.

Glancing at the sundial once more, Airey looked around at everyone to make sure all the students were suited up and had gloves. Seeing that everyone was prepared, he clapped his hands together a few times loudly to get their attention. "Alright alright, if everyone would listen up. In a few moments I will be removing gravity from this room and you all will be floating around freely," he said with a grin and a quick look towards Mr. Odessa again. "As you all can see, there are some meteors overhead shooting back and forth across the planetarium. Your task is to catch two of these, one blue and one yellow, using your baseball glove, one of each color. PLEASE do NOT use your bare hands or anything else besides the glove. They will not burn your hand, although they will feel warm to the touch, attempting to do so without a glove will cause your hand to be severely bruised." And as a worst case a dislocated shoulder perhaps, but he didn't mention that. "I will be walking around in case you need me." Literally.

Wand out, Airey summoned the lid for the box containing students' things and gave it a quick kick with his right foot to test and make sure that it was still stuck to the ground. Yep. Charm in place. All systems ready to launch. Turning his attention back to the students again, Airey couldn't help but smirk for a brief moment before giving his wand a rather elaborate wave overhead. "You all may want to hold on to something. Detravitas!"

Slowly, everything that had not been stuck to the floor with a Sticking Charm began to rise into the air - including students and even Professor Flamsteed himself as he had neglected to perform a Gripping Charm on his shoes earlier. Oops. Waving his arms and somehow managing to grab on to the protector to keep himself from floating too high, Airey gave his wand another flick and instantly the chairs and floor of the planetarium were gone and instead replaced with an image of the night sky, making it literally seem like everyone was floating in space - minus the zero oxygen bit. That would have been disastrous.

Blue and yellow streaks soon began to change their course, no longer just shooting back and forth horizontally across the room, but not also go up and down and diagonally and every which direction. Let the games begin!

"You have 40 minutes to complete this task! Good luck and may the force be with you!"

Now...to perform that Gripping Charm...
OOC: it should take you at LEAST 5 quality RP posts to complete this task and to be eligible for full participation marks. Remember, you are not weightless and floating around, so feel free to bump into walls, the projector, and other students as you accomplish this task. Injuries, should you choose for them to occur, should be MILD (IE no broken bones or lost teeth or near deaths).

You have approximately 48 hours from the time of this post to complete this portion of the lesson.

Any questions can be asked IC to Professor Flamsteed (just title your post with PROFESSOR HELP ME! or something to that regard so I can find it easily) or OOC to me via PM

HAVE FUN!

OOC: I got in just after you're post so that's the only reason I am editing mine.

Oichi felt incredibly confused. What on Earth were they gonna doing with a baseball glove and a projector? Those two things just sounded odd together. She heard some of her classmates mention catching meteors. Could be, but it also could be anything. Oichi grabbed a baseball glove and got in front of one of the projectors. She felt very nervous about whatever was to come. Soon she found out as the professor said he was removing gravity from the room. What!!!!!
Before she knew it she was moving upwards and as she tried to move she felt like she was flailing in the air. Oichi did not like this.

Default Post #1 and Flamsteed Heeeeeelp!
Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.

Okay, so...what did he say? Professor Flamsteed sure did talk alot. He followed almost nothing of what meteors and meteorites were. Something about stuff in a star, and a lot of mumbo-jumbo. He did follow the activity they were about to do. Rushing over and waiting to get his things on Oakey grabbed a glove, charmed his things to his desk. Hurried back over to put the gear on. He managed to get the helmet, arm guard, and shin guards on.
"Hold onto what?" Beofre he could slip the chest guard Professor Airey undid the gravity in the room. Oakey lifted into the air "Professor hold up!" he yelped as two little meteors pelted him in the back. "Professor." he held his glove out to catch an in coming blue shooting star but he missed and it grazed his helmet.

Kat totally had her protective gear on. Oh yes, she did. They were going to be flying without brooms. Just like in History of Magic last term. How awesome was that? Of course, it would take some getting used to but... probably it would be worth it? You can definitely pretending like you're Superman and put on hand up and FLYYY. That'd be cool, of course. With gear on, she was ready to FLY without broomsticks. They were going to...

Catch meteors? But her GLOVE! "Profes-" Too late. He had taken all the gravity, and Kat was supposed to wear glove. Seeing her hand glove float away from her, she kind of clinged to her seat for a while before 'flying' to get her floating glove. And while flying, she accidentally bumped into a wall.

"OOOOOOOOOOOOFF!"

... Meh.

Oichi flailed about untilled she finally found a good rhythm and found herself swimming through the air. It was a rather interesting feeling sensation. It felt rather awesome. She kicked harder and started to swim faster. She felt like a fish. She was having so much fun. She soon spotted a yellow ball and swam toward it.
