Default 3 - Girding Potion



Hecate was sitting in the classroom, just thinking it seems. She was thinking of many things and many people... She was thinking of her husbands, and of her career... things settled down... She sighed. She looked at the seats and table... She saw kids grow up in those seats.

Maybe she didn't create another famous potion... but she helped mold the witches and wizards of tomorrow...

She cast on the door, and it unlocked. Time for the last class of the term.

Edita twisted her mouth, her usual gesture whenever she was holding back from saying something cheeky at the Grass-munching Gryffindor. He would be against brownies, wouldn't he? A hiss called her attention back to her potion and she watched it simmer, slowing beginning to change from crystal clear to a barely there blue. It was meant to turn turquoise, but Edita wasn't sure what color that was specifically. Blue was blue, wasn't it?

"I assume they change the color," Edita responded to November's question but directed her gaze to Ezra. "You should ask the little potions master here though. I'm no expert. I just know how to throw things into the mix."

And sometimes she could stir clockwise or was it counter clockwise? Ed decided she'd allow Ezra and November to put their big brains together while she went back to staring at her simmering potion, until it turned a brighter blue. That should be just about it, right? Shrugging, Edita glanced down at her untidy scrawl for the next step.

"Add one measure of Doxy Eggs," she murmured and made a face at the paper. "Which means what? Three eggs? Then why not just say so from the beginning? Why do they have to confuse you?"

UGH. Edita scooped the doxy eggs from the jar, and manually picked out the surplus with nervous fingers, dropping those back into the jar until only three were left in her spoon. "It doesn't say if it's all in one go, or one by one so..."

She dropped those in quickly before she could second guess herself some more. Edita held her breath for ten seconds, but nothing had exploded, or burped, or made some obscene noise, or gone up in flames. She patted her arms, they were all intact. Her nose too, she noticed, as she pawed at her face.

"Whew!" she exclaimed, hunching over. "I thought for sure I was going to lose a body part early on in the game of this potion mixing business."

  • Water to fill the cauldron
  • 50 Dragonfly thoraxes (40 toasted/10 unheated)
  • One set of Fairy wings (2)
  • 3 Flying Seahorses
  • 12 Doxy eggs (Divided in 4 measures of 3)
  • Extra ingredient!
  • Add the set of fairy wings
  • Heat until the potion turns turquoise.
  • Add one measure of doxy eggs. (That's 3)
  • Heat until the potion turns pink.
  • Add 20 of the toasted dragonfly thoraxes or until the potion turns red (sometimes it takes only 18 or 19, but never more than 20)
  • Heat until the potion turns blue.
  • Add 20 of the toasted dragonfly thoraxes until the potion turns silver(sometimes it takes only 18 or 19, but never more than 20)
  • Heat the potion until it turns red again.
  • Add three measures of doxy eggs. (That's the remaining 9)
  • Add the 10 not-toaster dragonfly thoraxes.
  • Heat the potion until it turns blue again.
  • Add three flying seahorses.
  • Heat until the potion turns green.
  • Add in extra ingredient


They had to brew a potion... with no guidance? None? Zero?

BLINK.

Alec gulped hard as his eyes travelled from the professor and over towards the board where the ingredients and steps were listed. He did the first thing he could think of and start scribbling down the instructions and ingredients into his Potions journal. It wasn't the first necessary Potions step but it would certainly make the Potion making process easier which was good because the idea of making this potion on his own scared him.

Scribble... scribble... scribble...

There. Done. Now he was ready to do the actual first necessary Potions step which was to collect the ingredients. He picked up his journal and wandered over towards the store cupboard. Dragonfly... Fairy Wings... Flying Seahorses... It was kind of funny how most of these ingredients required something that had the ability to fly. It... probably had something to do with the endurance thing, right? So for the extra ingredient, if he picked one that could fly as well, did that mean that his potion would have extra endurance?

But... what if... something went wrong with his potion? And what if it blew up? And what if people got hurt in the process?

GULP.

Shaking his head, Alec grabbed the ingredients required and walked back to his desk. He placed the items carefully on his desk before walking back to the store cupboard. Right. Now he needed to decide. His eyes flew past a couple of the ingredients as his mind mentally crossed them off because... well... he had a funny feeling that he wouldn't need some of those. And then it got tricky. The Hufflepuff frowned slightly as he looked between two ingredients in particular. Armadillo Bile or... Salamander Blood? Which one... which one...

Eeine Meanie Miney Mo...

... It was a legit strategy.

And... Salamander Blood it is! The boy grabbed the final ingredient and headed back towards his work station. Right. Now. Time to make this potion! But... first... "Scourgify!" Clean? Yes? No? ... "Scourgify!" Just in case... "Aguamenti!" A grin spread across Alec's face as he watched his cauldron fill up with water.

Now it was potion making time!

Wowza!

"Fairy wings have magical properties," Ezra murmured, stating the obvious and sounding disgruntled. "They are also pretty." He was growing increasingly annoyed at the lack of detail put in the instructions; did he have to throw in the fairy wings right after the other or did he have to wait? How hot was the flame supposed to be?

So many unanswered questions.

Time to wing it.

Ezra added the fairy wings to the cauldron right after the other, figuring that since the water was not hot yet it couldn't do much harm. It made him feel bad to do it because Ellie would have liked them, but what his little sister couldn't see wouldn't hurt her either. He lit the cauldron from below, just a small flame, and waited for something to happen, right away. Nothing did, which either meant he was doing something very good, or very bad. "You're not going to lose any body parts, Ed." He didn't sound very convincing.

He coughed, and check his potion. It was slowly turning into a light shade of blue, which wasn't quite the correct color but close enough to let him know he wasn't doing too terribly. Ezra bent down, but then leaned a little away, playing a little with the flame. He checked the insides of his cauldron again, and watched the light blue turn into an adequate shade of turquoise. He turned the heat up a little bit. The turquoise brightened a shade.

As he scooped up his doxy eggs carefully, he ventured a glance at his friends' cauldrons. Novemeber's looked fine for now, and in a way, so did Edita. Her potion was nearly Ravenclaw blue, but he supposed Ravenclaw blue was better than, say, Hufflepuff yellow.

He was pretty sure that if Ed's potion had turned yellow, they'd be in trouble. The 'run out, quickly!' sort of trouble. "Turn up the heat, a little," He coughed out, discreetly, covering his mouth with one hand, and dropping the doxy eggs, one by one, inside the cauldron. Then he waited for it to turn pink. Hopefully.

Unfortunately, Kendall couldn’t keep her potion as just water. The explosion on the other side of the room had startled her enough that she’d paused in her own brewing and even second-guessed if she could manage brewing a potion on her own. She couldn’t stall for too long, however, seeing as Professor Lafay was still on the prowl and she’d heard the comments the people who had been near the explosion had gotten. She didn’t want anything like that happening to her, so she had to get back to brewing. All that she had to do was add ingredients and heat the potion anyway, so therefore she shouldn’t be afraid of anything. Even if there had been the perfect example of why she was nervous already. That didn’t mean she would have the same thing happen to her own potion. All she had to do was continue to think positively. Her ingredients were still all ready and organized, after all, so there was nothing to be scared of.

Therefore, she finally continued sliding the little container of fairy wings over toward herself. That was the first real step after all. It felt a little bit like she was sacrificing herself, just because of her memories of the Muggles back home in Galway thinking she was part fairy, but she wasn’t. Besides, there was every possibility that the fairies that had provided these wings had been dead before they’d been gathered, so she delicately selected a pair and dropped them into the water filling her cauldron. She wasn’t actually hurting anything by using something that wasn’t needed anymore. Once the wings had been added, she picked up her wand again and lit the burner under her cauldron to start heating everything. It was supposed to turn turquoise, and she leaned over to watch the liquid. It looked like plain water for what seemed like a long time, but finally, it started turning a pale aqua and deepened to turquoise. At least that went how it was supposed to, even if it took a long time.

use: to increase stamina and endurance

Ingredients:
Enough water to fill cauldron
50 dragonfly thoraxes (40 toasted and 10 untoasted)
1 set of fairy wings (2 wings)
3 flying seahorses
12 doxy eggs (4 measures of 3 eggs each)
another ingredient of my choice (1 tablespoon of chopped ginger)

Steps:
1. Scourgify cauldron
2. Fill cauldron with water
3. Add the set of fairy wings, then heat until the potion turns turquoise
4. Add one measure of doxy eggs (3 eggs), then heat until the potion turns pink
5. Add 20 toasted dragonfly thoraxes until potion turns red (might not take all 20)
6. Heat until the potion turns blue
7. Add the remaining 20 toasted dragonfly thoraxes until the potion turns silver (might not take all 20)
8. Heat until the potions turns red again
9. Add the remaining 3 measures of doxy eggs (9 eggs)
10. Add the 10 untoasted dragonfly thoraxes, then heat until the potion turns blue again
11. Add 3 flying seahorses, then heat until the potion turns green

Now that her ingredients were all prepared and whatnot, it was time for Elise to begin on her actual potion. YAY... not. She HAD done a potion without instructions before, and she would likely have to do it again, so she should just start working because Lafay was certainly not planning on being in the room for her Potions OWL. Yeah. Time to get brewing.

Smiling at what was almost second nature for her, Elise pointed her wand at the inside of her cauldron and cast "Scourgify" twice. Twice, just in case one of them didn't work or wasn't sufficient. Better safe than sorry, anyway. Then, she tied up her hair so that it didn't get in the way or anything like that.

Seeing as the second instruction was to heat the potion, Elise didn't ignite any fires below her cauldron just yet. So on to the first instruction.

Add the set of fairy wings.

Putting down her wand and picking up the delicate wings, Elise felt a little sorry for the poor fairy that had likely been killed for its beautiful wings. But this was a potion, and fairy wings had magical properties suited for this potion. This was not the class in which you got all sentimental, anyway.

Dropping the pair of fairy wings into her cauldron, she picked her wand up again, she prepared to light the fire below the cauldron, as instructed. "Incendio," she said quietly, tracing the shape of the flame quickly.

Now, she just had to wait for it to change colour.

Pink potion. The colour was hurting his eyes and now he was again ensured that he did not like the colour. While he could stand girls wearing and carrying pink stuff, some looked good with them actually, it was hard to stare at something else with the same colour. He liked girls in every colour anyway so it did matter. It was best when they were in his favourite colour though; blue. A light shade of blue, like the sky. He wondered if the potion would turn into that colour but it was not really listed in the instructions so if it did, that'd probably mean he had done something wrong.

Anyway, at least he was going to get rid of this pink colour once he started to add the other ingredients so without losing time, he pulled the container with 40 toasted dragonfly thoraxes closer to himself. The Slytherin got distracted for a moment when he heard cauldrons explode and people yelling about it. He let out a huge snort. Seriously? The fact that they managed to fail at this was dramatic. He eyed them a bit, then the professor and the next moment he got back to his potion. He was supposed use 20 of the toasted dragonfly thoraxes now, so he separated them from the other 20 and started to drop them into the cauldron one by one. ''1,2,3,4,5................15,16,17'' The colour of the liquid started to change, Richard watched carefully. ''18'' the moment the 18th piece of thoraxes was dropped into the cauldron, the liquid turned red and he finally got rid of the 'annoying to look at' pink colour. When he added the last two thoraxes, 19th and 20th, it turned a brighter red.

November frowned at the water in her cauldron and wondered if it was so wrong to stir it. The instructions said nothing of it, and for that reason she resisted, but she wondered if it might not speed up the process a little more. It was only because she mimicked most of his movements - adjusting the heat to help along the color - that she reached a shade she considered fine.

Kind of.

Puffing out her cheeks briefly, she adjusted for a hotter flame.

"I suppose I meant more..." What had she meant? "If it's going to keep changing colors, then it's not there just to make it a pretty blue, yeah? Suppose I just wanted to know it's properties or something." She wrinkled her nose and shrugged. At this point, she couldn't say she really cared much anymore and mostly found herself wondering out loud.

She took care, instead, to focus on the eggs.

She had to agree with Edita. Why bother calling it a measure? These instructions were made to confuse her, she wagered, and she carefully measured out the eggs and regarded them. Details were so necessary. She was a first year! How was she to know what affected potions so much? Edita hadn't blown up anything, though, and Ezra seemed doing fine, so November supposed, perhaps, the order mattered little, and she carefully dropped in the eggs, leaning back to avoid any splash.

"Which of us do you think will muck up worse, Eddie?" November inquired, watching her water. It was slowly shifting colors, caught somewhere in a purple, hopefully on its way to pink. She fiddled with the flame again and wondered what might happen if it went for something like mauve or orange instead. "I don't have high expectations for myself, really. Not much detail in these instructions. Can only hope Ezra will keep us from melting our cauldrons or catching on fire, chivalrous Gryffindor knight he is!"

Har har. There was a joke somewhere in there.

First the ingredients. Gwendolyn glimpsed at the board, where the ingredients were already written. The sixth year grabbed a quill and quickly started writing down the five ingredients. There. Done. Gwendolyn raised her eyes from the piece of parchment and glimpsed at the board, only to see that the instructions for brewing the potion had already appeared. The Ravenclaw read the steps first to get a general idea of what she had to do and then proceeded to writing down what was written on the board.

Scribble. Scribble. Scribble.

Fine. Done with this. The sixth year looked at the board, and then back at her notes to check if she had written everything down. Mhm. Seems fine, she told herself and then went to gather the ingredients she needed. Dragonfly thoraxes, fairy wings, flying seahorses and doxy eggs were all eventually placed around the working station.

Hmmm.

First thing to do- clean the cauldron and utensils. ‘Scourgify!’, she said clearly. Err. Might as well have tried non-verbal spells. Eh. Maybe next time. ‘Aguamenti‘, the girl pointed her wand at the cauldron and watched as it filled with water. All set. She could start now.

Lex was liking the look of her list more and more. Each time she got to do some crossing out she got a bit closer to the end. That wasn't the only reason why she liked it though. After reading through she realized that it would never go pink again. The colour was horrid okay and seeing it once in something she created was enough!

She took an extra minute...or less...to just look at the pretty blue. This would be the last time her potion turned this colour afterall. But then...when they were done they were supposed to add an ingredient of their choice. Maybe it would turn blue again when she did.

Of course, she still didn't know what she'd add but there was still time to think about that. Still a few things that needed to be added.

3 flying seahorses.

Waaaaaiiiitttttt...

Just how many creatures were they going to go through in this one potion? Heh. She bet Professor Newlin wouldn't like coming down here.

Lex got the flying seahorses and dropped them, one behind the other, into the solution. Now all that she could do was wait. This potion was teaching her a lot about patience today and she wasn't quite sure how she felt about that just yet. Patience was a virtue but it wasn't her virtue.

Luckily it didn't take very long before it started colouring shifting again. Meh. Green. Hopefully it wouldn't stay that colour.

Gwen looked through the ingredients and picked up the fairy wings. Those had o be added first. After tossing the set of fairy wings in the cauldron and heating up the potion, the girl looked back at her notes.

Now wait for it to turn turquoise.

Staaaaaare.

Come on. Turn turquoise already. The sixth year looked at the potion, expecting it to change its colour soon, like it was supposed to. Although she knew she couldn’t have done anything wrong so far, after adding only the first ingredient, Gwen wasn’t really sure the potion would have the colour Professor Lafay indicated. Fortunately, it didn’t take long until the potion started turning turquoise. Phew. So far so good.

The next ingredients which had to be used were the doxy eggs. Gwen glimpsed at the eggs which lay on the desk, and counted them again, just to make sure she had all 12. Mhm. 12 it is. Sooo what was the next step…? The sixth year glimpsed back at the piece of parchment containing her notes. Add one measure… So three doxy eggs.

Trying her VERY best to ignore the ickyness, the blonde cleaned up her space to rid it of any potion spatter and checked her potion. Yup, still pink. Okay, she was still on the right track. She just had to...not blow anything or anyone up, yeah? Not too hard to do...

Consulting her notes, Ella saw that next up was the toasted dragonfly thoraxes... 20 to be precise but she had to watch carefully because the potion could change color at lucky thorax number 18. She'd just watch carefully. Mhm! She pulled the toasted thoraxes forward and carefully began to count as she added them in.

1...2...3...4...5...6...7...8...9...10...11...12.. .13...14...15...16..17....18

And she stopped here to check for any color change. The potion still appeared to be pink so she kept on going.

19...

Blink! It was red! The potion was now red! This meant she could stop now, yeah? She placed the extra toasted thorax back and eyed her notes again.

Heat until blue? She could do that. And so she did.

Alec pointed his wand underneath his cauldron and lit the burner. There. He was finally sort of ready to start.

Sort of.

First thing's first were the fairy wings. Alec picked up the two and blinked at them. Fairy. Wings. Did anyone else realise how weird some of these potions ingredients were? Like... well... FAIRY WINGS. Thinking about how upset Abbi would be that someone had clipped off a fairy's wings, Alec dropped the set of wings into his cauldron. Sorry Abbi Campi!

Quick check at his notes... oh. Now it was a waiting game. The fifteen year old stood there, swaying a little in time to the beat of the song that was currently stuck in his head. He tried his hardest not to sing the lyrics out loud but for some reason, it was proving to be quite difficult so he ended up humming veeeeeeeeeery quietly instead.

... Didn't he have a potion to brew?

Turning a little red, the Hufflepuff snapped back into reality and took a quick glance at his potion. ... Nope. Not quite turquoise yet but it was starting to turn bluey, which was a good sign. Maybe it meant that humming... nearly... helped with potions? ... That was probably not true at all. And Lafay would probably kill him for singing out loud in class.

If a change was going to happen in her potion then she needed it to happen with this ginger...or whatever she was planning to put into it because well...yeah...she was really missing the blue and not fancying the green so much. It had nothing to do with what it represented, obviously, she was just a rather particular child, especially when it came to things like colours. Some colours were just prettier, okay??

For some reason she felt this urge to try poking the colour away with her wand, that usually worked you know, her poking things away with her wand but she didn't want anything to go wrong with her very...interesting, for lack of a better word, wand so she refrained.

Instead she got the last thing that needed to be added, only it wasn't the last ingredient because she still needed to think of something else that she was going to add. It probably had to represent something and she barely knew the ingredients that went into any one potion as it were. If she still couldn't think of anything by the time the ginger did it's stuff then she'd probably have to ask the Professor. Potions would be so much better if it didn't have the part where you had to memorize stuff to put into it along with what they might do for it.

Lex got the ginger in but after watching it disappear into the solution she realized something; she still had no idea what else she was putting in there. She turned the Professor. "Professor, I don't think I know what else I'm meant to put in here...like...it's supposed to be something of our choosing but what exactly is it meant for...?" Did that even make sense? She could try rephrasing, it all went to her not knowing what to put in.

9. Add the remaining 3 measures of doxy eggs (9 eggs)
10. Add the 10 untoasted dragonfly thoraxes, then heat until the potion turns blue again

As Belle waved the sweat off her forehead, she realized she was not done yet with the potion. Belle looked at the next few steps she had to do. Everything was going according to plan though.

Belle got her 20 toasted dragonfly thoraxes. She dropped them in one by one very carefully and then she noticed the potion turning silver. Belle stopped and put one egg to the side. Then she said "Incendio!" and the fire started under the cauldron. When the cauldron was boiling. Belle counted one Mississippi...two mississippi...three mississippi..then she saw the potion turning to red again...Alright time to stop...."Finite!" and the flame went out. Belle scratched off that step off the list and checked the remaining ones.

Red potion.

Richard did not know why today he seemed to be examining and paying extra attention, more than needed actually, to the changing colours of the potion. Eh...at least it was nothing that could mess with his potion. Being extra careful was not bad.

After eyeing the instructions again, the Slytherin poked the burner again to heat the potion. He watched the liquid, fixing his gray eyes inside the cauldron, until it turned blue. Blue...yes. That was the best sight he had seen so far. It was not his favourite shade of blue but still blue anyway. It made him think of Aurora's pretty blue dress. She looked attractive in it.

No...

He was not supposed to think of girls and get distracted right now. He was brewing a potion and it required his full attention. Okay, no girls for now. Lowering the fire under the cauldron with another poke, he took the container with the remained 20 toasted dragonfly thoraxes and started to drop them one by one as he had done with the previous 20 with his other gloved hand. This time the potion changed colour when he dropped the 19th of the thoraxes. It became silver which made him smile as he dropped the 20th.

Belle checked and she got her three measures of doxy eggs and put them in. Then she found her 10 not toaster dragonfly thoraxes. They were cool to examine and then she plopped them in

One...two...three...four...five....

Then she did the rest


One...two...three...four...five...plop...

Belle took out her wand and muttered the incantation"Incendio!" and then she felt the heat from the fire. Belle saw the potion bubbling and then she saw the potion turn blue again. Then Belle said "Finite!" once it looked blue and scribbled out the directions. Belel's potion was coming along really well and she was proud of herself.

Alec crossed off the steps in his journal one they were complete. There. He set his quill down, feeling slightly happier that this was going well so far. But... as long as he followed the instructions, then nothing can go wrong, right? Nothing until... he added in the last ingredient.

GULP.

But moving on... he needed to add in a measure of the doxy eggs which meant only three. Alec reached over and separated the doxy eggs into four groups of three, just to make it easier for himself later on. He then picked up a group of three Doxy eggs and added that into his potion. GRIN. Now he just had to wait...

... and wait...

... and wait...

Come oooooon, potion! Turn pink! "Pink pink pink pink..." ... This was... weird. Never before had he wanted something to turn pink so much. And pink of all colours! This was more down Messy's line of thinking, really. ... He missed that crazy roommate of his. Dude needed to be here! And the two needed to have another pillow-

Penelope wasn't too pleased that she'd actually had to use them all...but then again, not using all of them probably meant she'd had to put them back, so maybe it was good.

Anyway, moving on.

Now she was supposed to heat it until it turn blue. So she did, watching it steadily, waiting for it to go from red to blue...

Right..the potion was blue now so Ella was ready for the next step which wasssss....Hmmm. The blonde consulted her notes and raised her eyebrows a bit. 20 more toasted dragonfly thoraxes? Sheesh. Those poor dragonflies didn't stand a chance, yeah? Oh and Ella was curious as to how exactly those thoraxes were toasted. Did one toast dragonfly thorax over the fire or erm...in like a toaster oven? Did they even have the magical equivalent of a toaster oven? Soooo many questions. They'd have to wait though, Ella needed to get counting.

If he still had to observe and silently comment about the colours of the liquid, Richard supposed the best he had seen so far was silver, the current colour of the liquid. Yep...focusing on the colour helped him keep his full attention on the potion brewing work instead of letting his mind wander off to the images of pretty girls. Yes, colour. Even though blue was his favourite colour, the previous blue was not his favourite shade and this silver...was indeed his favourite.

Okay...back to the task.

Ignoring everyone else in the classroom, just like he had been doing from the very beginning of it, he poked the burner again to make the fire stronger starting to heat the potion again as instructed. The liquid was supposed to turn red. Eh...it looked like he was supposed to say goodbye to the shining silver colour. He tapped his fingers on the working station until the liquid turned into a satisfying shade of red then repeated the act of lowering the heat.

Next...the doxy eggs.

Not losing any time, Richard took the three containers of doxy eggs which had three in each and added them all into the potion.

Good work so far, he supposed, it was Lafay's to decide.

Alice had to brew a potion all by herself, without Lafay? And she couldn't even ask the older kids for their help? Not that Selina would be of much assistance in this particular class, anyways, but it was always nice to have a big looking out for her. So if she needed help, she would go ahead and ask. Instead of fretting about the brewing too much, she began to copy down the ingredients on a scrap of parchment, as well as the directions, before going to fetch them.

And.. and she needed an extra ingredient, right? Alice flipped through her textbook until she found the page for the Wit-Sharpening Potion. She could do with some added brain power, yeah? The first ingredient she spotted was ground scarab beetles, so she'd use those. It sounded fine to her. So she grabbed that, too, and then took it ALL back to her cauldron.

As Belle was getting near the end of the potion, she was breathing a sigh of relief. But then again she had to figure out what other ingredient to put in the potion. She was stumped and she did not want to mess it up and do something severe and mess up her potions.

SPOILER!!: Belle's Parchment

Annabelle Lecium
Seventh Year
Hufflepuff

Ingredients:
Enough water to fill cauldron
50 dragonfly thoraxes (40 toasted and 10 untoasted)
1 set of fairy wings (2 wings)
3 flying seahorses
12 doxy eggs (4 measures of 3 eggs each)
another ingredient of my choice (1 tablespoon of chopped ginger)

Steps:
1. Scourgify cauldron
2. Fill cauldron with water
3. Add the set of fairy wings, then heat until the potion turns turquoise
4. Add one measure of doxy eggs (3 eggs), then heat until the potion turns pink
5. Add 20 toasted dragonfly thoraxes until potion turns red (might not take all 20)
6. Heat until the potion turns blue
7. Add the remaining 20 toasted dragonfly thoraxes until the potion turns silver (might not take all 20)
8. Heat until the potions turns red again
9. Add the remaining 3 measures of doxy eggs (9 eggs)
10. Add the 10 untoasted dragonfly thoraxes, then heat until the potion turns blue again
11. Add 3 flying seahorses, then heat until the potion turns green
12. Add in extra ingredient


Belle saw she needed to add the 3 flying seahorses. Belle found them and added them one by one.

One...sploosh....Two...sploosh...Three...sploosh

After putting the seahorses in, she then lit the fire under the cauldron one last time. "Incendio!" and then she saw the potion turning green after a few minutes. Hmmm...green...it was one of her favorite colors. Belle then jumped and said "Finite!" She was dazing because green reminded her of the grass back on the farm. Ah Belle focus! It was quite hard to focus since the dungeon was hot with all the potions going.

Then Belle saw her last step and noticed she needed to add in an extra ingredient. She was hesitant about it. Belle looked around and wonder what she could add to it. "Professor can you give us a hint to what to add to the potion? I am nervous about adding the wrong ingredient...."

Peyton jotted down the ingredients as well as the instructions. Right about now she wished her quill was a Sugar Quill instead. She was in the mood for sweets. When wasn't she? Finishing the notes, she stood up and went to retrieve the ingredients she'd need for this potion.

On her way there, Peyton wondered if the flying professor would really be able to tell if she used this potion to enhance her skills. She was good at flying and even though she was small, she had a beater's arm that shouldn't be reckoned with. So why wouldn't she want to enhance those? Exactly. She'd do it if no one found out, but as it was, Peyton didn't want to get in trouble, or worse, disqualified from the game.

Walking back to her work area, ingredients in her arms, she decided not to test it. Maybe she'd do it during the summer or something. If her dad didn't notice it then maybe the flying instructor wouldn't either. She doubted it, though. Meh.

She set the ingredients on the table and looked down at her list to make sure she had what she needed. Nodding to herself, Peyton prepared herself to start the potion.

Now that she had her ingredients on her table, Kat was set to do her Girding Potion. Right. It did seem so complicated. Was this supposed to be her OWLs? Nah. But Kat was all set with that, because she definitely had been 'studying'. Now, she just had to get started because she felt like she was falling on last in this class. Meh.

Kat took out her wand. "Scourgify!" she cast on her cauldron to clean it. Now that it was good she had to fill her cauldron with water. "Aguamenti!" and then water came out of her wand. That was good. Finished with that, Kat took a look at her parchment.

Girding Potion
- Gives the drinker more endurance


I. Ingredients
  • Water to fill the cauldron
  • 50 Dragonfly thoraxes (40 toasted/10 unheated)
  • One set of Fairy wings (2)
  • 3 Flying Seahorses
  • 12 Doxy eggs (Divided in 4 measures of 3)

II. Procedure
  • Add the set of fairy wings
  • Heat until the potion turns turquoise.
  • Add one measure of doxy eggs. (That's 3)
  • Heat until the potion turns pink.
  • Add 20 of the toasted dragonfly thoraxes or until the potion turns red (sometimes it takes only 18 or 19, but never more than 20)
  • Heat until the potion turns blue.
  • Add 20 of the toasted dragonfly thoraxes until the potion turns silver (sometimes it takes only 18 or 19, but never more than 20)
  • Heat the potion until it turns red again.
  • Add three measures of doxy eggs. (That's the remaining 9)
  • Add the 10 not-toaster dragonfly thoraxes.
  • Heat the potion until it turns blue again.
  • Add three flying seahorses.
  • Heat until the potion turns green.


Fairy wings? Uhm okay. Kat took the set of fairy wings she got to the cauldron. Then she had to heat it until it turned turquoise. Okay cool. "Incendio!" she said, heating her cauldron. She was looking at her cauldron to see if the potion started to turn turquoise.

...

And it did. Kat stopped the flame she was producing from her wand. Alright, what's neeext?
