Extremely confident in your spell-casting...well...Kurumi wasn't certainly not at that phase just yet, which made her nervous for NEWTs now that she thought about it. What if she had to transfigure a suit of armor using this spell or something? Her and Vivi had struggled with making zippers! However, the confirmation that the spell was meant to transform softer materials. So there was some relief.

Cue some slight finger wiggling in Vivi's direction before the Gryffindor returned to note taking.

Kurumi also too special interest into what Vickers had asked, about layers and different materials specifically. She hadn't put too much thought into her next design exactly, but she knew it would be a skirt...a skirt with some volume. Which meant that she would need to use multiple layers of trash bag to accomplish this, right? One for the actual fabric and then another for tool or something.

As for further question...she didn't really have any at the moment. Something would probably come up once they began actually doing the spell.

Kimothy 10-14-2012 02:03 AM

Kat listened to Magnus' replies to the other students. Well... the normal questions related to it. Patterns... Colors... Details... Etc. And then they were going to learn another spell to create a skirt or a pair of jeans or even shorts.

Kat shook her head. "None, Professor," she said. In fact, she wanted to learn the spell already. Like, NOW.

Luna_Midnight 10-14-2012 04:47 AM

Nerida listened to Professor Magnus reply to the other students. And jotted some stuff down into her notebook. Trousers or a skirt. Yay, she hoped making one of those ones was as much fun as making the shirt. Honestly, no questions were coming to mind, though she might ask one when they knew the spell or were going to preform the spell. She was really excited to learn the spell already!

Isabelle scratched her chin and looked up at the wall of shirts towards Sierra's. She'd certainly done better the second time around.

"The tie-dyed effect probably happened because the separating lines between the colours blurred at some point in your mind. You got there in the end though, I see."

"I wanted you all to try and make things as complicated for yourselves as possible, because trial and error is the best way to learn with these things. The more detailed an item is, the more it stretches your spell-casting ability, and getting you to do that is partially why I'm here." And getting them to get it right, obviously. She was a teacher after all and nurturing and teaching was her job. If it was easy all the time though it would be boring.

"Now, this week, as I told you at the start of term, we'll be doing another portion of your final outfit - trousers or a skirt. Or even shorts if you wish, as this will all be finished near summer time. Do any of you have any questions about this section before I move on to the actual spell?" She was open to a bit more talking first.

Not that easy? Yeah. Sierra quickly found that out. Now she wished she'd gone for a more solid pattern, but on the bright side, at least a multi-colored shirt meant a solid pair of pants. She didn't want to look like a clown, after all. There was her silver lining for all that hard work. She nodded at the professor's response. She thought she had held her concentration until the every end, but she guessed she just didn't concentrate enough.

Sierra sat back in her desk and waited for the next set of directions. She remembered they'd be working on pants, skirts, and shorts, so she didn't have any questions. They only thing she really needed to decided now was what she'd create. Hmm. What would look best with a rainbow-striped shirt? She'd probably only be wearing this at home, since it was short-sleeved, and she'd be wearing her uniform for most of the rest of the school year... Okay. Shorts it was.

ashfig 10-14-2012 05:34 PM

Clothes?! They were making CLOTHES? Cora looked down at her own outfit. It was flowy and bright colors, but not necessarily fashionable. Because Cora didn't really care.

She wondered what this had to do with Transfigurations. They probably discussed that on the first day, though, so Cora kept her mouth shut.

She decided on a skirt nonetheless, since she loved the way skirts twirled around.

lazykitty 10-14-2012 10:34 PM

She had done well? Emmanuelle wasn't expecting to hear conformation of her thoughts, so that was good. Right?

She shook her head no to indicate that she didn't have any questions, right now at least. She was already picturing what she wanted to make for bottoms. And hoping that the spell would be easier now that they had practiced with the shirts first.

As for any questions about what they would be doing next, she had none. For now she would wait to see how the lesson went.

Fail was such a cruel word, because Isabelle never viewed it that way. To her not getting a spell correct was just part of the learning process, not a failure. But this time, they had been split down the middle to make it easier to wrap them around the legs of the mannequin - which she proceeded to do to one of the ones at the front. Dragging it forward a little, she placed it in a central position so they could all see.

"Now, this spell is VERY similar to the last one, with just a slight change in the first word and the wand movement.... So please pay close attention." flicking out her wand, Issy took a step back and cleared her throat. Pointing it downwards, she flicked up, then down again in an upside down V shape. As she did so she said clearly and concisely "Summitto Vestis!"

The bag began to elongate and split some more, taking the shape of a pair of trousers that came down to the mannequins ankles and stopped. "There we go. I won't say it's simple to accomplish, but there is no reason why you can't all get something of note done in this lesson and your homework later. As you saw the wand movement is like an upside down V, sort of like two legs. It's the same even if you're wanting to make a skirt, by the way. And you need to put emphasis on the last part of each word - 'Summ-ITTO Vest-IS'" It was a lot simpler than it seemed though.

"If you want to go ahead and try it out please do, but if you want to ask me anything first go right ahead. Bags are here and already split down the middle for you to attach them better."

From shirts last class to bottoms this one. Not that Gideon was really surprised given Professor Magnus had already told them the endgame and the progress from one to the other was rather straightforward. The prefect paid attention as the woman demonstrated both wand movement and incantation, copying both down into his notes for later reference. he debated adding the last part since he doubted he would have much if any need to make a skirt but finally opted to anyway just for studying purposed.

Summitto Vestis

Summ-ITTO vest-IS

Might as well try it, he mused to himself, getting up from his seat to retrieve a bag or two to work with. He would need one anyway as they continued on with the rest of the class. Returning with the duo, Gideon placed them separately on his work area before taking out his wand as he mulled over the trouser incantation in his head to get a feel for it. Summitto Vestis...Summ-itto Vest-is...Summitto Vestis.

Without speaking, to avoid actually casting the spell, Gideon moved his wand in the upside down v-shape Professor Magnus had shown. His wand and wand moving slowly over and over as he worked out the movement before he felt ready to put it all together.

Alexa nodded slowly as the Professor explained herself.

Not failure but learning...? Right. Interesting way of looking at it. As far as she was concerned she had failed at the spell quite a bit in the last class but since the Professor insisted then she would be more than happy to look at it from the point of view that she didn't fail but rather that she was learning the entire time. At least then she wouldn't feel so bad about being an idiot at the last spell.

Good.

Now she could move on. Fixing her attention on the Professor, she watched her demonstrate the spell. Mm-hmm...another letter and this one was upside down!!! It had to happen sooner or later, she was waiting for it. -__-

Summitto Vestis. She kept that spell in mind as she went up and grabbed a bag. The words ran through her mind several times on her way back to her seat; repetition might have made it easier. Once back at her seat she tried practising the wand movement. The words would come later but after the problems she had with 'Z' she wanted to make sure she got this one down first.

Up then back down. Up then back down. Up then back down. She was getting the hang of it. Pacing herself really.

Awarlesta Black 10-14-2012 11:47 PM

Awar listened to her professor closely.

Summitto Vestis

She nodded and proceeded on to practicing. She held out her wand and drew a V. She continued practicing, not yet convinced she was ready.

Bazinga 10-15-2012 02:04 AM

Minerva was listening to the professor. She couldn't wait to start doing the spell, so when she said they could practice she first started with the wand movement. She took her wand out and began to practice the upside down V, doing this over and over again, she didn't want to mess it up.

Then Minerva set her wand down and started saying the spell, so she could put it to memory. "Summitto Vestis!" "Summitto Vestis!" "Summitto Vestis!", that was really close to last lesson's spell. She would have to make sure she did not say the wrong one.

Expecto-Penguin 10-15-2012 02:21 AM

Belle heard the professor address the new spell. Ah so there was a difference. She knew the Summis Vestis from last lesson. Also the Z motion she still memorized.

Now this is the new spell they had to learn with an upside down V motion. They had to pronounce it a new way. "Summitto Vestis"

"Sum-mit-to Vest-is....Sum-mit-to Vest-is..."Belle kept repeating in her head. This was going to be fine. She was saying it and practicing the wand movement before getting the bags to start the real thing. Nothing wrong with that right?

As soon as they were set loose to practice on their dummies, Vivi moved hers back to her work station and swaddled it in the split plastic bag. Sort of had the look of a really poorly constructed hula skirt.

Which... sort of gave Vivi a fun idea to work with as she was experimenting with this spell. Why NOT make a hula skirt? The material wasn't really material, which made it all the more difficult to transfigure, and all the individual strands... it would be excellent practice.

Should she start with something simpler for a first attempt, though? Maybe a pair of simple black yoga pants - the sort they'd need for comfortable Defense practice. Vivi mentally pictured the trousers she had in mind, replacing the bag on the mannequin with those very ones. After spending time thinking about the texture and thickness of the fabric, the color, the length of the trousers, and how the seams ought to form, Vivi finally raised her wand and practiced the wand motions.

FearlessLeader19 10-15-2012 04:47 AM

Jory paid careful attention to how the Professor moved the wand and he listened closely to the pronunciation of the incantation.

He tried the incantation first without his wand. ''Summitto Vestis,'' he said. "Summitto Vestis, Summitto Vestis.'' He repeated it a few more times. After sure he had gotten that part correct, the badger moved on to the wand movement. It was simple enough. An upside down V.

"Ready,'' he thought to himself as he got up. He grabbed a dummy and a split bag. As he fixed the bag into place, Jory thought of what kind of pants he would transfigure. Perhaps shorts?

sweetpinkpixie 10-15-2012 07:07 AM

and heeeeeeeeello Vivi

With no real questions at the moment, Kurumi went up to the front of the room and grabbed a bag. While she had no intention of pants for her final outfit, she figured that she might as well try and make some of them right now since the bag was already in that shape, right? Simple black pants, just like her uniform ones. Nothing fancy or flashy. Just simple and black and...cotton?

"Summitto Vestis...Summitto Vestis....Summitto Vestis...Summitto Vestis..." she mumbled to herself as she made her way back to her station and set her trash bag over her dummy's shoulder while sort of pulling a repeat of their homework session and moved closer to Vivi while batting her eyelashes not-so-innocently as she removed her wand and started making upside down V movements with it.

"So...what are you going to try and make?" As in help inspire me to figure out a design too!

Kimothy 10-15-2012 11:14 AM

Oh. The incantation and the hand movement was that simple. That's no problem for the Slytherin fourth year. The blonde grabbed a bag, the same they used when they casted 'Summus Vestis' except with a split in the middle. She made her mannequin wear it again. Oh lookie. It looks like it had plastic for trousers. Very amusing.

She grabbed her wand from her pocket... Wait... it's not here. Kat searched deeper inside her pocket. Merlin's beard. WHERE WAS HER WAND?!?!?!? She was mentally panicking and flailing already. Until she found it inside the wand holster. Jeeeeeeeezus. Kat let out a huff. Well, at least she found it, right?

Now... time for her awesomeness in Transfiguration. She pointed her wand. "Summitto Vestis," she said with the upside down V movement...

Ok, again. Kat pointed her wand for the second time. "Summ-ITTO Vest-IS," she said once again with the upside down V hand movement.

Oh, she's ready. Bring it on.

Catching up! :D

SPOILER!!: Professor
Logan was adorable. Or Pao. She must remember to call him the name he wanted. Maybe change the nameplate when he wasn't looking. Anyway, Issy grinned at him when he came over before finding his seat.

Red? Ohhhh, right yes. Her dress. She chuckled slightly at his blushing and nodded her head. "Well, thank you, Mister Mancini." I think.

Isabelle popped off the desk and wandered over to the door, closing it behind the last entrant. Anyone coming in now would be late and feel her wrath. Well points loss anyway. But moving on. Walking back up the aisle to her desk, Issy turned and smiled at all the kids.

"Good morning everyone. Now, before we start on the spell for this lesson, I'd like you all to tell me how you feel you got on with the last spell? I noticed some of you did very well in making things that had some good detail on them," she said, gesturing to the wall set up at the front of the room. Quite pretty, with words and sparkles and everything.

"Doing things with more detail is tricky, especially when transfiguring clothing, which is why you don't often find people making elaborate items. Did any of you come across problems that you had to overcome?" Because if they did, maybe she could help with that. Plus this little talk first would get them into 'lesson mode' before launching into the good stuff.

Hannah had ended up making a nice shirt. Of course it took her some time to get it perfect, but she got it eventually and that was what counted right? Words? She didn't think she would attempt words for a while. The sequins gave enough trouble. Hopefully the rest of the garments would be easy. One could hope.

SPOILER!!: Professor again

She was open to a bit more talking first.

It was complicated for her no doubt! Still pants had to be easier right? It wasn't like she was going to add anything that sparkles to that. She was ready to try the spell. Hopefully all the practicing had paid off. She shook her head no when the professor asked if they had any questions. She was ready for the spell work.

SPOILER!!: Finally caught up

Ok it was pretty much the same concept. She could totally do this! She listened intently to every word the professor said. She wanted to do better this time. She hated when it took her a long time to get something right. Time for practice! She would be perfect at this.

She cleared her throat. "Summitto Vestis...Summitto Vestis...Summitto Vestis." The spell was easy enough. It just kind of rolled off your tongue.

Picking up her wand she practiced the wand movement. Upside down V... check. She was ready. Bring it on!

Theo was glad that it was a similar spell to the last one, because he absolutely nailed it before. Though, he did worry that he would get them both confused. Summitto Vestis. Easy.

The boy pulled out his wand and laid it on the desk so he would be ready. He practiced the upside-down V wand movement. It was kind of the shape of a pair of trousers, so Theo was very happy with that. Now, pronunciation. "Summ-itto-Vestis. Summ-ITTO-Vest-IS." He said out loud, nodding to himself each time.

Did he feel ready to actually perform it? Nope.

"Summitto-Vestis. Summitto Vestis!" Upside-down V wand movement. And so on...

kayquilz 10-15-2012 12:49 PM

Well.

Elliot certainly didn't have any...particular questions. LET'S JUST GET STARTED! She had never been so EAGER to get a class going...but this was her favorite..and she was good at it...and Elliot enjoyed a challenge. Transfiguration was NOT easy...nope.

Now...what would go well with her shirt?! A skirt? Pants? Shorts? WHAT?! IT HAD TO BE GORGEOUS! Elliot tapped her wand to her head absentmindedly...she would practice in a minute...just....brainstorming for a second, thanks. She was thinking some sort of tight...skirt. What color? Black immediately came into her mind..hmm...that seemed so simple, though? Think about this later...that you can do for homework, right? Right.

Focussss on getting the spell down, Elliot!

It was very much similar to the other one...Summitto Vestis...she hoped she didn't get them confused. Highly unlikely, since she was suuuuper smart and all, but still. It would be very embarrassing. Before she actually tied her rubbish bag around the mannequin, she wanted to get the spell down...right...

"Summus-" she inwardly scolded herself..*grumblegrumble* ...NOT THE SAME SPELL! She was just so USED to the other one! "SummITTO Vestis..." she said slowly, feeling it roll around in her mouth. Summiiiiiiitto vestis...not summus...sumitto.."Summitto Vestiiiis..." she said again...right...and the upside down V...made sense. NOT A Z.

catch up. sort of. ^_^

When Professor Magnus asked if they had problems with the last spell that they dealt with, Beezus didn't exactly raise her hand and lay her cards on the table. Instead, the brunette stayed listening as her classmates prompted out their own dilemmas, most of them were also causing her distress too, especially when it came to actual creativity.

Moving on...

So, after the top, they were going for the lower article of clothing. Skirt, short, or trousers? No questions for now about it Professor except the fact that she was once again having trouble deciding which type of clothing article she was going to make. Hmm..a skirt perhaps? Would it be too girlish? Shorts? She wasn't really fond of shorts, not the short shorts anyway..So, trousers then? Hmm. Well, she COULD use it during cold night Quidditch practices.

So yes, trousers it is then.

Choosing was pretty easy, no? Making it was hard but the process of doing it was difficult. All ears, Beezus watched as Professor Magnus transfigured the black plastic bag into a trouser. Summitto Vestis, is it? The Ravenclaw's mouth twitched and as if on a race, it began to mumble the incantation repeatedly.

Still memorizing and familiarizing the incantation, she then walked up to the front of the classroom to get a plastic bag to herself. There it goes again, her worst enemy, the rubbish bag. SIGH. Hopefully, it won't go rogue again and not attempt to kill her this time. The rubbish bag was then tied around her mannequin's waist as upon her return to her seat.

Next was the wand movement. Of course, she practiced it for a while. An overturned V..

...and no questions so far!

Beezus looked at the Hufflepuff Captain beside her. Was she up to doing the spell now? Because if she is then Beezus might just start with hers too.

oh its Erik ok 10-15-2012 02:41 PM

Nigel felt like he could do this spell. The wand motion was easy. It was only a upside down V. He was not sure yet what he wanted though. He remember Professor Magnus say they could do shorts. Since this clothing project would be done at the end of the year. So Shorts is was.

But first he felt he should practice the spell. He felt if he did it right now he would do the spell from last class and it would be a probelm. "Summ-ITTO Vest-IS". Nigel pronounced. "Summitto Vetis". He did the upside down V motion and was hapy with the result. Well now the only thing left was getting a bag and using the spell

Talikins 10-15-2012 04:05 PM

Bee ^_^

Questions? Nope not for the Professor at least, but for herself yes. Skirt or pants? It wasn't too much of a hard decision way easier than other choices Ness had, had to make recently. Still she couldn't choose.

Hmmm...Skirt? No...pants? No..skirt..no actually pants would go better with her shirt.

Eventually the red head made up her mind to go with pants and was ready to go over the spell. Just like the Professor had said it was VERY similar to the one they had learned last lesson, and the only thing that worried Ness was that she'd get muddles up. She did that sometimes more often than never.

Summitto Vestis! Summitto Vestis! Summitto Vestis!

She repeated it again and again and even again. She refused to allow herself to make silly mistakes with her incantations. It just wouldn't happen, she wouldn't let it. As for the wand movement, she decided it looked easy and did not require much practice at all. This was her first mistake though.

"You ready?" she asked Bee and then turned to her mannequin that now had a paper bug wrapped around it's legs. She wanted to start same time as Bee just for a little bit of good luck.

emjay 10-15-2012 05:24 PM

Ethan eyed the professor speculatively. Same spell and wand movement whether trousers or skirt? Of course the boy would want to be creating trousers.. but he was a little worried that with his lack of Transfiguration skill that he would end up with a skirt. And no, he would not be wearing that.

His eyes searched the tops displayed at the front of the room and landed on a familiar blue one. Thinking for a moment, the Ravenclaw decided that a pair of those bluish trousers - jeans, he was sure they were called - would probably suit him best. Picking up his wand, he waved it in an upside-down V several times as well as going over Summitto Vestis, Summitto Vestis in his head. Ready to practice, Ethan walked up to the front of the room and retrieved a black bag from Magnus' desk.

But maybe some people saw it differently. "No one is ever perfect when they start out, Miss Cambridge. if it was so easy to learn new spells there would be no need for this school, you could just do it at home." In a world where underage magic was allowed outside of school, obviously. "I merely want you all to try and do complicated things because you won't be able to go through life taking the easy option."

But anyway, on with the lesson, it's why everyone was there. "Okay, as there are no questions just yet, I shall demonstrate the spell." Isabelle moved swiftly in to the back room and came back with an armful of black bags. Yes they would be using them again.

Scribble scribble....

Vickers paused to look at the Professor demonstrate the new spell. Hmm so very similar to that which changes things into a shirt. Picking up his wand he made the inverted V wandstroke as he mouthed the spell silently a few times 'Sum-eetoe... Vest-is......Summitto Vestis.....'

Scribble scribble.... he better take note of this because its pretty easy to mistake one spell for the other.

When spell and wandstroke have gotten familiar to him he stood and collected a few plastic bags for himself. He lay them on his table and picked one up, examining it between his hands. As it was, it looked way less like a pair of pants than it was a skirt.

Hmm....

Sarah nodded as the teacher spoke, taking it all in.
First she was to practice the words- SUMM-itto VEST-is. No that was wrong... emphasis misplaced. It had to be on the last part of the word. So she tried again. "Summ-ITTO Vest-IS. " That was MUCH better. She then said it three times to perfect it. "Summ-ITTO Vest-IS... Summ-ITTO Vest-IS....Summ-ITTO Vest-IS"

Now that she had that she made the connical shae. The /\ shape. Facing the wand downwards she went up and then down. Easy.

Then she put it together. "Summ-ITTO Vest-IS" Up down!!
