Not too far away from the large circular desk-like contraption in the center of the library where the librarian, Mr Kitridge usually can be found keeping a keen eye on the goings of the library and its visitors you can find the records section. If you don’t want to ask for help or assistance right away then check this out. A whole book case has been taken in possession to house the extensive record tomes of past teachers, prefects, awards, champions and all the events big and small that has occurred in Hogwarts long history since its founding many, many years ago. The information is easy to access and anyone is free to consult the records any time they need but be respectful of the tomes age. No tomes may be removed or borrowed from the library without the librarian’s approval or direct instruction.
A set of bookshelves stretches out behind the Librarian’s desk, this is the reference section. The books these shelves hold make up the library’s reference section. Here you can find a complete list of all the books, news papers crammers etc found in the whole of the library. If you need any help the librarian isn't far away.

The fifteen minutes following the act of getting slapped in the face by the Headmistress were rather unproductive for Milton Shacklebolt. He spent a few minutes in the bathroom covering his poor, attractive cheek with his hand, seriously wondering if Truebridge was working for the bad guys. It WAS possible, right? That mysterious ghost sucking was MYSTERIOUS.
But eventually, Milton shuffled out Myrtle's lair and migrated to the library and gave up on the theory of an evil Headmistress since no one seemed to be jumping on board with him. Even though the red hair was still making him suspicious.
When he got to the reference section, Milton let other people do the hard work and eventually got pushed to the back of the crowd. He didn't like Runes. He wasn't good at runes. Or... using his brain, actually. Which was a new thing. But he blamed it on all the stray bludgers and quaffles that liked to collide with his head.
After staring blankly at everyone for several minutes and deciding that he probably wasn't much use (except for sweet talking ghosts), Milton plopped down onto a different table and lay down, his head hanging off the end. "Just let me know if you need my excellent flirting skills again. Or a pretty face. I happen to have both." He wasn't talking to anyone in particular. Just anyone who would listen because he was tiiiiiiired of being uselessnot knowing anything WAITING. SIGH.
And then Milton laughed to himself. "Heh. Hey, you know what's funny?" Milton asked to no one in particular as he dangled his head upside down off the table. "I hate people AND cats. Just like this Isfret bloke!" Hilarious, right? RIGHT?!
The redhead looked up sharply from paging through Entities and Oddballs of the Eighteenth Century to stare at the little Hufflepuff with a mouth like a sailor.
"Watch your tongue, young one," she chided the girl with a frown. Merlin, she had brought her cat. Those kids were quicker than she knew when it came to posting things on their notice boards.
...and without bothering to explain much more, Anastasia went back to the books. There had to be something here... there just had to be...
Befelda suddenly quieted herself when she saw and heard the Headmistress speak to her in a different tone. She quickly bowed down, together with her cat Fluffy, and quipped "Sorry, Headmistress."
Then she quickly turned and again witnessed the commotion going on. Professors were all over the Reference Section talking about how to make the ghost get out.
Merlin there were a lot of people in the library now. Were they all searching for the same thing? Or what was this? Nessie was just a little confused but after a little bit of hearning comments here and there she had an idea of what was going on. These teachers and students were all here looking for the vicious plant that scared Nessie to death. Good thing that was being sorted then, just hopefully it wouldn't hurt anyone else in the process of finding it and dealing with it.
As for the brooch, they seemed to be getting a little closer to understanding it all and by now they had the translation of the runes. This translation made Puffles shudder just a little and Nessie knew why. 'Isfret, beware of felines.' Weird. Why would cats have anything to with this Isfret person? And wait was this why they needed to bring their pets? Because not all of their pets were cats so this was fairly confusing. Maybe it was actually simpler than she thought. Listening on further things started to make just a little more sense.
Still the Hufflepuff couldn't help wondering how much easier this would have been if the ghosts had told them more, or if they had just not gotten sucked up by that silly brooch. Surely that thing was cursed. She didn't even think there was a need to use a spell to figure that out, but of course it was best to check more with what it was cursed with. Good thing Sierra seemed to know what she was doing.
"Anything I can do?" Maybe look through a book, or something? Because she was beginning to feel a little helpless not to mention doing something would distract her from any bad thoughts."Maybe if Myrtle didn't follow Dylan and Milton, I can try look for her?" Of course she wouldn't go alone though, that would be way to scary.
Speaking of Milton though there he was. Where was Dylan though and had the ghost followed them? "Milton?" Nessie tried to get his attention."Is Myrtle with you?" Maybe she was hiding by him? She surely wasn't in sight.

Kurumi sort of just rolled her eyes and picked up another book from the pile and thrust it in Milton's general direction. He had been one of the people to help with Professor Scabior's research group about the freezings and the orb so she knew he could at least read a book. In fact, he had been one of the ones to find useful information. "Here, flirt with this," she said with a smile while offering the book. And then there was the younger Hufflepuff that had arrived and Kurumi grabbed another from the stack and offered her it. "Here Befelda, see if you can find anything in this about an Isfret or anything related to trapping entities."
And then Kurumi returned to her own book and began to skim through the first chapter that was mostly talking about the founders and their relation to the House Ghosts, offering a brief history on how they came to be at the schools and then jumping to around the 15th century when Kurumi thought of something else.
It was no secret that Kurumi favored house elves and had a special place for them in her heart, but she really did feel like their helpfulness was being overlooked right now. Besides the ghosts, didn't they see what was going on at Hogwarts the most? Well, them and the portraits. "Um, Headmistress, this might be a bit of a stretch...but maybe the house elves know something about this first encounter with Isfret at Hogwarts. Maybe one of them could help us focus our research or even give us some answers." Kurumi wasn't too sure how long house elves could live, but surely it was longer than wizarding kind and chances were that some of the house elves who were at Hogwarts now came from families that had served Hogwarts for century upon century. Something this big would have been a story to pass down, right?
And then when Nessie spoke up Kurumi offered her a book as well. "You can also help look for information in these, if you want." The more people hitting the books and archives the better, right?
Kurumi glanced at the brooch as Sierra cast the spells on it, wonder if it would actually reveal anything or not. The Headmistress had been wearing it for at least half the term...which meant if it was cursed then wasn't the Headmistress cursed as well? See, this is why Kurumi had been using a levitation spell to get the brooch here in the first place, just to be safe.

Although Penelope said that she could help look for the plant, Sarah preferred to look in the books. "I will help in the reseach department" she said. She then quickly scanned the books with her eyes.. which one should she tackle first? It was probably no mentioned in Wizarding Events of the 20th century as it probably happened before that. Sarah took out a book and scanned the index at the back for Isfret.. no mention. Her mind wondered about and she said her thoughts out loud, "maybe by felines it is not literal maybe it means something to do with Gryffindor as Lions are part of the feline family, like Sir Nicholas for example, or Godric Gryffindor's hat or maybe the students from the Gryffindor house?" Sarah suggested.
She then put back the other book and took out another. The next book was dusty with age and Sarah sneezed from the dust. She casted tergeo on it to get rid of the dust and paged through to the index at the back - still no isfret.
Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.

"Are any of these books from the Restricted Section?" Kurumi asked as she grabbed one from the stack and began to leaf through it's Table of Contents. "Considering how old an entity Isfret is and how much the possibility of ancient Dark Magic in involved...it would probably be worth checking out books there as well." Hey, it had worked historically at Hogwarts for the Golden Trio, right?
And right now Kurumi was especially proud that her, Kat, and Beezus had recharmed and fixed the Reference Section. Could have been a nightmare doing all this research in here the way it had been earlier in the term.
Still with Charmer in his arm Oakey took a quick look around stepping over books and students. He carefully maneuvered around Sierra who seemed to be trying to figure out the curse on the brooch, until he reached Kurumi. "I agree with Kurumi," Oakey said with a nod and smile. "If this Isfret is as Ancient and Evil as the House Ghosts claim him to be, I bet that part of the Library has something on him." If not maybe, he could find a book on Egytian Brooches that capture House Ghost. Even if that was a bit of a long shot.
Louisa wasn't intimidated by the stack of books, she simply moved them around to see what kind of history books those were. Speaking of history, professor Scabior showed up. About time! She watched him briefly talking to the headmistress who was talking to Cerulean and lowering her voice at one point. Professor Romanos was here too... oh. No touching the brooch, yeah well too late, Louisa touched it. And lived. Nevertheless, the seventh year stared at her two fingers to make sure there was nothing alarming there.
Eh. They were being too paranoid, maybe. This Isfret seemed like someone who wanted chaos and attention, he didn't care if it caused death but killing obviously wasn't his priority.
Back to the book research.
She was about to settle down and start flipping through books when Sierra suggested the use of that curse-detecting spell. Needless to say the Ravenclaw was more than happy to give up the brooch to the younger girl. Phew. She kept her eyes on Sierra as she pointed her wand at the possibly cursed piece of jewelry, her hands grabbed one of the books and slowly opened it.

Nevertheless, her wand was still at the ready.
Having entered the library, she gripped her wand a little tighter, glancing down each aisle as they came to a stop in front of...a rather large and well stocked bookcase. "Think it'd stay in here vith it's apparent appetite for human flesh?" she muttered, glancing behind as she took a few steps around the group.
Another glance down an aisle.
Huh.

Leo focused on looking for vines, leaves, dirt or really any indications at all that the plant was in the library. The shelf he was eyeing though seemed to be free from plant traces. Hearing how Katrina and then Medea came up behind him he commented to them. "It looks like the plant hasn’t been through here but let’s spread out and check the rest of the aisles anyway for traces." The stone that had formed in his stomach was slowly unknotting itself as it seemed that just maybe the plant had left the library untouched this time.
Turning around to go check some other bookshelves Leo smiled at Gemma and Oakey as they joined the group. "We are looking for clues as to where the plant went after it nabbed Professor Burbage from the Astronomy Tower." He explained.
"Oakey, Laura and Katrina keep your wands at the ready just in case. Check the nearest shelves and see if you can find anything plant like vines or leaves on the shelves or books." Leo motioned.
Walking over to where Medea was standing Leo looked down the same aisle and said quietly. "I think if the plant was here it has left for more populated areas."

"Like the great hall?" She turned her gaze to Leo. Was it ever decided if a professor was staying with the students or if they would be going back to their common rooms now that they were open? She glanced towards Gemma momentarily as she suggested they help with finding information about the brooch, eyebrows knitted together. There had been much commotion about finding the Headmistress's brooch, but what did it have to do with the plant?
Apparently nothing?
Medea slowly stepped her way down the aisle she was closest to, taking note of each book title while listening to all the information being gathered at the present moment. Runes, cats, ghosts...Isfret. Medea paused where she was and rubbed the bridge of her nose. This was enough of this Egyptian magic or entities or whatever it was for one day.
Locked common rooms. Trapped ghosts. Hmmm...
Numbers and runes weren't in her line of specialties, though were similar to hieroglyphics in a sense. Something that she WAS familiar with. "There's a start." she commented, pulling over a chair from a nearby table and sitting down, picking up one of the stacked books. "Though I vould stop touching the brooch in case it truly is cursed."
Ahem, just... no touchy.
... Seriously? When Mr. Kitridge arrived, he suggested a split up. What? Was he cray or something? What if the plant was actually here and started attacking them before they could scream for help. Hello? He was a librarian and maybe he should have some knowledge coming from books. Instead of debating, Kat just followed Mr. Kitridge and searched the alleys between bookshelves. No leaves or anything plant-y in here.
"It's safe here," Kat called out in case the two adults accompanying them could hear. But, well, there were more people in the section. Prefects, Captains, even the Headmistress. Doesn't she look so pink today? OOOOHHH... the brooch-looking committee was here.
Kat looked from each Prefect, Professor, and onto the Headmistress. "Is there anything I could help in finding this brooch, too?" Kat said. BUT she was also going to help find this plant too. Two missions at once! Kat felt like a superhero. Yeah, she liked that.
... A cat? Kat would've made a joke that she was one but she did know her limitations. This was a time to be serious. The blonde kept quiet. After all, she had no cat in the Common Room. Or Kneazle.

Penelope was still randomly looking around places for any sign of the plant, but it didn't seem like there was really anything to find. So she overheard the conversation the prefects and some of the other students were having about felines being needed to help get rid of the ghost guy - Isfret? - and that they needed to look in some books the Headmistress had found for other information on it. Well that seemed more productive than looking for a plant that wasn't even there right then, even if it did require reading through a bunch of probably boring books, so Penelope walked over to the group and grabbed a random book.
"I'll help with this too, I guess," she said to no one in particular, putting her wand back into its holster then flipping the book open, continuing to at least half-listen to the suggestions people were throwing out to get a better idea of what she should be looking for.

Gemma was lost looking through books...it was exhilarating to be doing research again. She smiled at the students around her working hard. She was just fixing to suggest they look in a book called Magical Curses and Hexes when the Headmistress leaned over to her.

Speaking of the ghosts... Bunz leaned toward Gemma and lowered her voice. "Do you think we should question Myrtle more? Or Peeves? If they've been helping this Isfret all along, they should surely know more about him than we do..."
She mirrored the woman and leaned into her and listened. Her eyebrows raised up with the suggestion, "O yes, I think that sounds like a great idea...would you like me to sneak off to Myrtle's bathroom and see what I can find out from the girl...she was always kind to me when I was in school.... she said shutting the book she was flipping through slowly.

"Here-the Trial and Times of Ancient Spirits." Dash said loudly over the talk. It wasn't exactly a used book but he had gotten it as a gift one time and so did manage to read it. "There's a section in there about ghosts from egypt." Hmm. He nodded. "Anything else?" If not then he would gladly be on his way.

You know, if Gemma was volunteering to go back to that horrid bathroom... Annie sure wasn't going to protest her going.
"Be my guest," she muttered, leaning around the Muggle Studies professor and eying the lazy boy who had come in WITHOUT the ghost. Disobeying instructions yet again, he was. "Why don't you take that one," she nudged her head toward the captain, "with you?"

"Wait wait..." she held up a hand. She was definitely not going to allow the ONLY person who'd heard of this ghost to just DISAPPEAR. Her blue eyes quickly scanned the chapter. "D'you know any spells about ah, removing ghosts and pests? Like banishing spells?" She turned a page. "Is there anything in here along those lines...?"

It was as if the large tendril was being summoned. SUMMONED. Away and into the library. It couldn't control or move, it was just being pulled away from its' the central part that stayed put in the greenhouses, and closer to the hand of a boy.
Yum.
The tendril didn't resist instead waited until the pulling feeling was ended. As soon as it could move again it wrapped itself around the boys wrist and began to yank the boy out of the library and toward the greenhouse.
YUMYUMYUM! It's food was now calling it when it was ready to be eaten!

"Milton! Look out!" Kurumi said as she jumped to her feet and swiftly removed her wand from her pocket, pointing it at the tendril that had wrapped itself around the Ravenclaw. "Immobulus!"
But the plant was too quick and had dragged Milton away. "THAT plant is Isfret? We have to go after it...it was just dragging Milton away...not eating him..."
Yet.

Penelope glanced up every now and then from the book she was flipping through, so far not finding anything that seemed relevant. And it was really boring, so it didn't really keep her interest. Looking at other people reading and talking and whatever wa somehow much more interesting than that book. Maybe she should just set it down and find something else to read through. She looked around at the shelves, the books on the tables, the tendril over by Milton...
...Wait. What was that over by Milton?
Penelope did a double take and stared back over in that direction, but already it was too late for her to do anything. Kurumi had shouted and cast and spell and then- Milton was gone?
They should go after him?
"Then let's go." Time to go save the Ravenclaw Quidditch Captain. After all, who else was she going to be able to smack in Charm class?

Oakey's knee's gave in as he watched Milton get dragged away by the plant. He buckled some then dropped to the floor. He just watched the plant claim it's second? third? fourth? DAMMIT MERLIN that didn't matter! He bowed his head "I-I'm d-done then." Oakey said his voice shaking immensely!
Almost becoming plant food, and sticking his hand to a snargaluff was no where compared to right now. "I ca-can't...I want out." Poor Milton .

Yum.
The tendril didn't resist instead waited until the pulling feeling was ended. As soon as it could move again it wrapped itself around the boys wrist and began to yank the boy out of the library and toward the greenhouse.
YUMYUMYUM! It's food was now calling it when it was ready to be eaten!
Sierra had sort of tuned out all the chaos around her as she watched and waited to see if her spell on the brooch would work. She could hear the chatter around her and the occasional turn of a page, but it all seemed like background noise as she continued to wait.
It was only when she heard Kurumi call out to Milton that Sierra realized her attention should be elsewhere. She jumped away from the brooch, half-expecting it to look like it was about to explode or something. But no, it wasn't the brooch. The brooch looked just as it did a few minutes ago.
It was..."Holy frazzling Merlin!" she called out. She didn't even stop to think about how that didn't even make sense. Frazzling Merlin? Anyway... Kurumi was encouraging them to...just GO?! But...but...but.... Sierra's wide eyes went from the brooch to the doorway to the brooch again. Then Oakey was out for the count, and Sierra found herself tugging him back up. "Oakey, you have to," she said. "It could come back. You can't just stay here."
Saint Sierra was worried about a Puffer... Heh.
She sighed and looked at Kurumi again. "Oh, alright then. What about this brooch, though?" They can't just leave their house ghosts lying on a table in a library locked away in a piece of cursed jewelry.
Selina still wanted to go down to the kitchens. She had been standing there as all of her peers tried to figure out how they were going to handle this delicate situation with the runes, but they were really getting no where. The rune was NOT important. The important thing, as she had said before, was making sure everyone was safe. But no, they were just going to sit in the library and wait like a bunch of sitting ducks after Myrtle had left them KNOWING they were coming here. Yes, it was as stupid as it sounded.
The sixth year was a Gryffindor, which meant that she was brave, but she was not blindly stupid. They needed to get some adults to handle this... not a bunch of idiot, student, lackys. They had Puffers for that. Everyone needed to get to safety. But NOOO the library was where it was at... ugh.
This was a really bad idea.
And, she hated to say it, but Selina had been right. She had TOLD everyone they had to get out of harm's way, but they had not listened to her. Instead, they had chosen to lure a ghost with two of their male captains, go out in plan sight so the ghosts could find them AND be very vocal about bringing the bad guy down. It was seriously a bad muggle movie and you know what they always sad about who went first- yep, the dumb one.
OH AND LOOK AT THAT!
Milton had just gotten taken.
They were doomed.
But Selina's motherly instincts sent in when suddenly Penelope was there and she wanted to go and chase after the plant. Yeah, bad idea. She looked at Penelope and said, "No way... no kids allowed. This is dangerous...."
She turned to the adults and said something that she should have said a long time ago, "Are you guys going to do anything?!" Like go after him? Because as annoying as Milton was he did NOT deserve to get eaten. Not for a minute. And she would go after him with a few Quidditch players if no one figured stuff out soon.... beaters most likely.
BEATERS! WAIT! She looked at Sierra and said, "Can you get your beater bat and I'll borrow one", because her bat was still missing, "And we can go after him... And if anyone else wants to come... you can."

Dylan had stayed behind, hoping to convince Myrtle to tag along...but If not, that was on her. He'd more than done his part after this...and the Headmistress couldn't ask or expect more. Hmph.
...And he was with popular opinion. The Captain didn't want to be forced to trek to the library alone...It wasn't smart...Yet, as he finally focused on what everyone else was doing, it seemed he was totally alone with Myrtle in the bathroom...Yea, it was time to go.
Besides walking extremely slow down to the fourth floor, nothing strange or unusual met Dylan. It was much appreciated, too...
When he arrived, though, he'd clearly missed something...
Skylar was ranting about someone doing something...? Beater's bats...? Where was Mildew? "What...is going on?" It just struck him how terrifying his redheaded friend looked...

Alice wasn't doing work anyways— who cared about the other junk when there was a Captain being dragged away before her eyes?— so she got to watch the full show of Milton's last moments. And it was kind of hard to pretend that it wasn't entertaining.
BUT NO. No, no, no. They couldn't go AFTER the plant.
"That's an AWFUL idea," she stated, staring at everybody. Well. It WAS. Who knew where that plant was taking Milton? "Are you all out of your minds? You have no idea where that thing is going." In truth.. they didn't, right?
And it wouldn't help if the plant had.. like.. plant FRIENDS in the special plant place.
"Why don't you just summon Isfret back and then bang it on the head with a book or something?" Selina was good at whacking stuff. she could totally take that plant, head on. "Or just.. like.. summon Milton back."
YEAH.
That could totally work.

Oakey was on the verge a complete and utter break down until he felt himself being hoisted up to his feet and looking directly into the eyes of non other than Sierra Griengoth. What was she gonna do offer him as a trade to rescue Milton? He was a much more valuable student than Oakey was at the moment. Get rid of a pawn to save a knight right?
wait...was she...concerned for him? "R-right s-sorry." He said still shaking, but pulling himself from her grip.
Then Selina came by suddenly and began demanding Sierra get her beaters bat and if she could borrow one. "I-I'm not s-sure what beating the plant will do. I'd rather burn it or chop it up. b-but if you need one, you can borrow mine."
Oakey knew wasn't going to be much help around the plant and it seemed that Sierra was needed else where. "I can take the brooch to Professor Hadley." Oakey said "She taught us all year long about curse breaking. So she may have some more idea's on how to get them out."
Dylan had stayed behind, hoping to convince Myrtle to tag along...but If not, that was on her. He'd more than done his part after this...and the Headmistress couldn't ask or expect more. Hmph.

Selina impatiently tapped her foot as she waited for the adults to say or do anything to help Milton. Now, she could understand their hesitation- it was Milton. But the poor bloke did not deserve to die. He had a life to live AND a game to play. From one Quidditch Captain to another playing Quidditch trumped everything else present in life. And well, yes, that included dying. Also, by the logic of muggle horror movies, if he died then he would start of the chain of deaths. If they saved him they would all survive. So saving him was PURELY selfish... not because she was worried or anything. Nope. It was Milton, please. He was probably screaming like a little girl right now.
Heh. Well at least it would be easy enough to find him by the girly shrieks. Better then any honing device.
Ugh, this was not the way she wanted to be spending her day. Instead of going to that ghost thing she could have been up in her dorms writing a response to that pesky letter, but NO. Merlin, no, she just had to attach her fate to a deadly plant.
What a pain. Literally.
But then a person ran up besides her, obviously missing all of the drama and asked what was going on. Was this person daft? Did they not see the giant plant being...? Oh, it was Dylan. Well, it was nice to see him again. If the moment was any less dangerous she would have snarkily quipped to him about his alone time with Myrtle. Because he was NEVER going to live that down in her eyes. It was just too bloody funny.
As she waited for the Professors and Sierra to reply to her, she leaned over to Dylan and caught him up nice and fast, "The plant that ate the Professors came and just took Milton and is PROBABLY going to eat him. There. You're caught up."

Well if she looked through the book like that she wasn't going to find any information. Scabior frowned but really it wasn't his fault if she couldn't find the name. He had given her the resource to.
He was just about to turn and leave but she stopped him. Was he some sort of ghost capturer? "I know spells designed to capture the living." Dash said dully. In other words: no. "You could try reading Lockhart's Guide or try a vanishing spell." That was really all he could give her. Now it was time to-
