This is a special room that the professor designed just for you lovely students. It can either be a beautiful and relaxing
get away or your worst nightmare, it all depends on the circumstances behind you being in the room.
Generally upon entering the room you're greeted by a cool sea breeze and at your first step in you'll realize that you're no longer standing on cold stone but warm sand. Coconut trees are scattered here and there about the beachroom to provide shade from the inconspicuous sun. If you listen more than you yap it's likely you'll hear the ocean.
Please do not enter the room without permission from Professor Bellaire.

"Very good Mr.Gert. You are correct. I'm glad you mentioned other items because Protego and in fact other shield charms protected the caster from more than just spells." She nodded at him then moved on and hoped the others were taking notes.

"Well professor i think it is used to block most of the spells and even physical entities. But the spell will not protect you from curses but it can rebound to the other attacker i have heard when a spell is used."
"Good, you are correct. But do not think...KNOW." She was right why second guess yourself?

"Its a shield good for dueling. Shields you from stuff. You can focus it to like one small point or you can make it bigger." In theory? West didn't know how to do it. And he didn't have much faith in learning it today.
"It is good for shielding you from..stuff and dueling but as this is not Defense Against the Dark Arts, I'd like you to think of other areas it would be of good use in."

Good thing class had started, and they were focusing on a defensive spell. Hurray! Vivi's hand shot up, and her voice came from inside her cloak. "Professor, the Protego charm creates a focused shield spell that can repel most low-level hexes. There are stronger shields, but it's a really easy and effective defensive spell for most uses."
"Oh very good Miss Braxton!" She was about to move on when she paused. "Please remove the hood, it's not needed just yet." Very good answer though.

Em reluctantly pulled herself up off the sand, Scorgifyed her uniform (making sure everything was perfectly straight while she was at it), and sat down in the nearest chair. Pulling her supplies and textbook out of her bag, she frowned slightly when the sun was covered by a cloud. After all, what was wrong with a little bit of UV?
Putting her hand in the air she answered, [B]"It's the shield charm. It protects the caster during a duel."[/I] She had studied this soo long ago. Why was Hogwarts just now covering it?
"The protego is not only used during duels but yes it is a shield charm."

After blinking a few times, she looked back down at her parchment and absentmindedly scribbled the word out. She spelled it wrong. Without much thought, she tried again and wrote, "Protejo."
Because in Spanish, if the infinitive form of the verb ends in -ger, then you have to change the g to a j when conjugated in the present "yo" form.
Err... what?
Blink.Blink.Blink.
This wasn't Spanish. This was Charms.
Scribbling it out again, she re-wrote it, "Protego."
Raising her hand with a curious look on her her face, she said, "Professor, sorry... I'm kind of new to this, but... I think... I mean... Does the spell Protego have something to do with protecting because it is REALLY similar to the Spanish verb 'proteger'... which... means to protect..." she finished quietly, putting her hand down slowly and waiting for an answer, hoping she didn't look like an idiot.
OOC: Proteger - [Pronounced like pro-tay-HAIR]
Well she certainly went through a lot to get to that question but at least she was thinking. "Yes it is a protective charm." She nodded slowly.

Before she could ask, class had officially begun and the seventh year went to grab a chair and got her things out before her hand went up. "Protego is sort of a wizards bread and butter of defensive spells in that it is a charm that creates a shield around you to deflect hexes. There are variations of the charm that can protect against stronger hexes and offensive spells as well as the overall area shielded."
Kurumi swallowed again. So...about that coconut water...
"Very good Miss Hollingberry." And if it was wizarding bread and butter. It should be a charm they all aspired to master." She nodded in her direction and moved on.

Well aside from the few granules of sand that had latched on, she was fit as a fiddle. The cloud provided a great shady haven for the students. Now I won’t have to worry about getting sunburnt out here, she thought. Is “out here” even right though? I mean, we’re inside, she’s just charmed it to look like the beach. So…in here. Yeah.
Following her professor’s instructions, she placed her book in her lap, then spread a piece of parchment over it. She hoped her ink wouldn’t bleed through onto her book, but she was sure the professor had already considered they may need a writing surface so she didn’t mention it. She held her long plumed quill in her left hand, poised to record any and every note about charms. She wanted to learn all of it and she doubted she could ever learn it too soon.
Oh, she knew the Protego charm! Or at least she thought she did. Her mom had taught it to her once when her little sister was sick. She’d been sneezing all the time and Eliza didn’t much like being sprayed with germs so she had practiced shielding the sickly outbursts. She raised her hand and answered, “The Protego charm blocks things from reaching you, or touching you.” She paused for any immediate signs of disapproval, then went on. “I don’t think it can block really strong things though. Or maybe it can, but the caster just has to practice a lot first.” Not her best answer, but she thought it was ok for her first lesson in charms. She hoped the professor would correct her if she was wrong. The embarrassment was something she was willing to endure, if it meant she’d no longer be spouting misinformation.
"Your answer is not far off but as your classmate mentioned.." and well she mentioned it too.."there are variants of the spell, some stronger and some weaker. And yes practice does make perfect."

Aidan's eyes drifted from the girl to his shoe and back a couple times. "Okay." Clearly, she needed to pay more attention to flying shoes and get out of the way. And since it almost hit her, but didn't really, he didn't see the point in her pointing this out.
He also didn't know what he was supposed to be watching. "Watch what?" he asked again.
Lottie's eyes widened a little bit as she noticed his reaction. ARE YOU FOR REAL?! She actually wanted to SCREAM right now! Nevermind how much FLAILING was going on in her head, she was frozen.
Was he really a Ravenclaw? At this rate Lottie was going to believe the Sorting Hat made PLENTY of mistakes.
"Ugh." That was her answer. She kicked his shoe his way, because she definitely didn't want this one near her. NO! Now, let's pretend he didn't exist and her day was not officially ruined by this. It wasn't important, yeah?
And it was time to start the lesson, THANK MERLIN FOR THAT.
She made a point of sitting as far away from the kid who couldn't comprehend a word she said and took out her implements. Rosy pink quill at hand.
OH! Protego! Her aunt was rather good at those defensive spells, but this wasn't DADA...so...their barrier will be...WEATHER. Of course, that slightly explained the beach scenery. She'd rather learn how to make a shield or barrier to keep some people out of her sight, though. She didn't EYE the Ravenclaw boy, but it was rather obvious she was thinking of people like him.

Caelum! Kurumi knew that word actually...but not in relation to the weather or atmosphere. Her brother had once gone on a random talk about his research on the constellation. Kurumi really didn't get what it looked like either, even after her brother had drawn it on a piece of paper. Others like hydra and leo were obvious, they had shape...this one was just...a chisel.
As for questions, Kurumi thought for a moment before raising her hand. "Professor, does this charm also have varying levels of strength like Protego does for different weather conditions? I mean...is there such a charm as Protego caelum totalum for example?"

West eyed the professor but kept his tongue. She hadn't said to think of 'other areas' or he would have given some out of the box answer.
"Protego Caelum." He repeated quietly, following the Latin just fine.
He digested this and was glad he brought his wet weather gear, though didn't get why they were in a sandy sunny room if it wasn't to do with the lesson. Again West didn't say anything about that, instead he put his hand up for a question.
"Professor, does it work sort of like an umbrella, or is it an all over sort of charm like Impervius?" See? Polite, despite his misgivings.

No questions here, nope. Though Emmanuelle did pick up on something the professor said, and reached back into her bag and pulled out her rain poncho and wellies. Obviously she was going to need them, since they had been brought up and everything. She laid the two things on the sand beside her chair and began her notes. Hopefully she wouldn't end up completely drenched during this lesson.....

"That's a good question. Some spells can be modified to increase or decrease in power but not all it depends on the root spell. Protego now is one such spell that can be modified. Example Protego Maxima. So yes Protego Caelum does have varying levels of strength. Does that clear things up for you Kurumi?"

Learning time YAYAYAYAY!!! Sophie managed to ignore everyone and everything - even evil Elliot - and faed professor Bellaire as she started to say things.
Well, she knew Protego, yes. That was a simple and useful spell. And they had learned a variant of it the other term and all. All good! But now they'd learn a variant that protected them from the weather?
"Professor, can't the plain Protego shield us from the weather as well?" She asked after raising her hand. "Or is it more specific, like it'll protect us from the heat or something, while just 'Protego' won't be so effective?"
Made a little sense, right?

Elliot was listening. She was. She was just being quiet. Until Soapy spoke...eh, Sophie. The pufferdufferhead. And Elliot actually found herself raising her hand..."Professor, this is leaning on Soap-" EH COUGH COUGH COUGH "Sophie's question...a shield charm only protects from magic, right? So it wouldn't from real weather, but would it protect from, say, rain that was conjured by someone? Or does it really shield from both?"
It just popped into her head. ANd now she wanted to totally know the answer!
Plus, she sent a smirk Sophie's way...having almost said Soapy. How...embaressing would that have been...Elliot shouldn't have corrected herself.

Sooo like Impervius then. Except not just for being wet, he guessed. Hood to boots? Was he allowed to ask another question? Did that mean they were charming their cloaks then?
He put his hand up again. "Professor, does that mean we're charming our weather gear? Our cloaks and stuff? Or is it a charm that like, manifests and stuff, like around us and not attached to something?"
Questions were important, right?

So they were learning something that was related to weather; and with what they had been asked to bring with them to class today, did that mean they might get rained on?
Silvia had pulled up a nearby chair and sat down, pulling out her notes and textbook. She listened as her fellow students explained the protego charm, which she was not unfamiliar with, having learned it in DADA a while back. And this variation of it sounded very useful.
Questions? None that she could think of at the moment. So she settled for writing the spell down in her notes, as well as any other important bits of information that came up during their question-answer session. Sounded like it would be an interesting lesson.

So they were going to be learning new versions of Protego. That intrigued Kendall, wishing she was still seated with crossed legs and running her fingers through the sand instead of in the chairs as they'd been asked. Protection from the weather, combined with the fact they'd been asked to bring cloaks and galoshes and the cloud that the professor had conjured only told her one thing. They definitely weren't protecting themselves from sunburn. She wouldn't have minded getting one, though, since a tan would only bring out the pink in her hair. But then, back to the fact they had to be in immaculate uniforms instead of swimsuits prevented that from really being possible. Therefore, she didn't mind the cloud and everything that might come from it, although she was curious about the fact that nobody had seemed to ask the most obvious question.
"Protego Caelum. Protego Caelum," she whispered to herself a few times, just getting the pronunciation down before she raised her hand. They'd been asked if they had any questions, after all, so she didn't figure there was a problem with what she wanted to ask. Plus, maybe she'd find out how long it would be before they n eeded their supplies. "Professor Bellaire, is it going to rain in here?," she asked, much louder than her earlier incantation practice but not above normal volume. There had been more than one reference to umbrellas, and then the galoshes. That only meant rain was the most obvious guess as to what they would be shielding themselves against.

Protego Caelum, huh?
More likely, Bellaire was going to give the whole class a little downpour, and yes, perhaps, a bit of thunder and lightning should be expected too? Hmp. So much for the wonderful scenery of tropicality around them. Beezus already had her mind made up that in a minute or so, they won'e be able to appreciate their surroundings.
When questions were encouraged, the Ravenclaw only listened, picking up important key points on the conversations between Professor Bellaire and some of her classmates. Okay, so that's how it works. Sure, that was it's capacity. I see, it doesn't work that way then. Feeling like she was a bit unsure about something, Beezus raised her hand, "So Professor, when you said the elements of weather, we can assume you were pertaining to rain, and snow," You know, those things that usually accompanies a storm. "..does it also include strong winds?" As in able to repel the force that comes with it?
Zack rearranged his uniform. Didn't want the professor to have any bad impression about him, he didn't want to lose any points at all.
Quietly sitting on his chair he heard the professor give them the first part of the lesson. Now that charm was something he had never heard of......... neither knew what it did..........so the only question was.........nothing.....He could only sit and pay attention to the class and see if anyone could lose points..........hehe.....

Protego Caelum.
Tiffany nodded to the new charm that they were going to learn in this lesson. Again, a shield charm which she assumed it was as the professor had mentioned that it was used as protection...to weather. The lioness was a bit confused at this point. What does it mean by shielding them from weather since wind or rain is not really a dangerous thing and they never appeal to her that they are scary or harmful. They are the nature, after all.
"Professor, can this protect us from all kinds of weather?"she asked, though they wouldn't need it if it was just for normal weather. "Or shall I ask in this way, does it mean that we use it when there is a downpour or thunderstorm?" Or else, she could never think of other way of using, not under a sunny day at least.

Professor Bellaire returned the greeting and eyed her watch one last time. Yep it was time to start class. With a flick of her wand she shut the door with a loud slam. That would get their attention right? And also late bugs would be locked out and have to knock.
She banished her glass and cleared her throat. "Class is now in session. I'm sure I do not need to remind you all to ensure your uniform is immaculate." She paused giving whoever needed to fix themselves time to do so. "I'd like everyone to make use of the chairs provided, take out your quill and parchment as well as your text books." She waved her wand again and a giant cloud covered the sky. There, now there was no direct heat.
"Today we will be focusing on a variant of the Protego charm. Can anyone tell me what the Protego Charm does?"
BANG!
Kat held her breath. That bang was sooo loud that Kat almost wanted to shiver. Then later the atmosphere was calm and quiet. Professor asked them a question. A Protego Charm... isn't that the shield charm?
Kat raised her hand. "Professor, Protego is the shield charm," Kat said. "The magical barrier the charm creates is used to deflect or counter back to the witch or wizard who cast an offensive spell."

Protego Caelum. Yay, new spell to try out soon. Woot. Kat wore her boots and her cloak. And no, she didn't have any questions about the topic. Then before the activity, Kat took out her parchment and noted some important details.

Dylan listened as she explained the charm that they would be learning, that was the charm that they would be learning? a shield against the weather? no silencing charms or ones to put pimples on people's faces? Oh man! he was hoping for a spell that would allow him to go through with his plans that he had made with Alexa! But this way it looked like they wouldn't be doing those plans anytime soon, oh man! he so wanted to do those plans right now!!! What were these professors thinking? they were teaching them boring stuff!!
First the boring yoga sessions in Defence Against The Dark Arts, Yoga doesnt help protect you from dark magic so he decided that in the next class he wouldnt do the yoga but only answer the questions. Now this? as if he needed to be shielded against the weather! It was fun to hang out in the rain and play in the snow! so why be shielded against the weather. "Professor can you shield multiple people against the weather? Like me and a friend?" ok so he asked a question about this charm.. cause he was curious about it even though it seemed like a useless charm to him

Kurumi listening as the professor went in to more details, nodding her head here and there to show that she was understanding. It raised a few more questions, but some of what she was thinking was asked by West, so she would sort of just sit back and wait to see how his follow up question was asked. If it was sort of just repelling water, she was curious as to how it was different from Impervius. Probably another charm she should use on the library books in the reference section since it seemed as though the man hadn't had Impervius cast on any of them in the first place.
"I think so, professor," she nodded. She was going to wait for the rest of the woman's responses before she was entirely sure. Her eyes drifted to the coconut water for a moment. "Professor, one more thing..." Because she was feeling a little thirsty. "Can we...also have some of that coconut water?"

"Protego as the base spell would do very little to protect you from weather elements..especially strong forces..just as it would be ineffective in protecting you from a barrage of spells being thrown at you all at once. Which is why we are focusing on a charm that does protect you from the weather totally..almost."
Got it?

So it wouldn't from real weather, but would it protect from, say, rain that was conjured by someone? Or does it really shield from both?"
It just popped into her head. ANd now she wanted to totally know the answer!
Plus, she sent a smirk Sophie's way...having almost said Soapy. How...embaressing would that have been...Elliot shouldn't have corrected herself.
"Whether the weather is conjured or not it should be able to protect you from it...and I don't remember reading anywhere where it said the shield charm only protects from magic. Charms makes ordinary things extra ordinary remember? It alter the behaviour of something whether magical or not." All this use of the words whether and weather...meh.

He put his hand up again. "Professor, does that mean we're charming our weather gear? Our cloaks and stuff? Or is it a charm that like, manifests and stuff, like around us and not attached to something?"
Questions were important, right?
"Today we are starting small. So we'll be charming our weather gears for now instead of the space around us. But as mentioned earlier this charm has varying power levels."

Professor Bellaire chuckled. Rain was an understatement." No dear...it will not just rain in here." It was going to storm and they better be prepared for it.

"That is a good question, one to which I have the answer. Elements of the weather...wind, rain, snow and anything else nature throws at us. Of course we're at starting level today so no need to worry."

She had heard her response to the previous question right? Because it was the same answer. "yes all kinds of weather."

Oh man! he was hoping for a spell that would allow him to go through with his plans that he had made with Alexa!
Like me and a friend?" ok so he asked a question about this charm.. cause he was curious about it even though it seemed like a useless charm to him
"It can if we were learning a more advanced version of the spell. As it turns out we are not. A baby crawls before it walks."

Hmmm... Sophia looked over to the thatched hut."Of course that's why it was there. Did they think she could drink all that coconut water? "Go ahead Miss Hollingberry. It is here for everyone." She wasn't cruel enough to bring them into this heat and not provide some sort of re-hydration.

Hmmm. Ella was quite fascinated by the shield charm, mostly because it was extremely useful, especially in Defense Against the Dark Arts. Also, Ella had been talking about Shield Charms in History of Magic during the discussion about the Hogwarts Express. Speaking of that, Ella had a question. "Professor, we discussed the Hogwarts Express in History of Magic and I was wondering if the train used this particular charm to ensure that it could move back and forth safely through any type of weather." It would make sense, considering that Gambol had used all kinds of magic to prepare the train for transport.

SPOILER!!: 1st Question
Enjoying the whole scene Hannah was actually enjoying herself. She hoped the lesson would nice and easy. The Protego Charm. Oh yeah...this was going to be easy. "To the point professor it simply protects you." She didn't need to recite a novel to get to the point. Nope.
SPOILER!!: Moving On
"It seems you've all been reading. Three points to all of you who attempted to answer." She stepped a little closer to the students.
"As was mentioned by one of your classmates the incantation 'protego' comes form the word 'protect'. The variant of the protego charm that we wil be studying is Protego Caelum. Caelum is the latin word for atmosphere and weather." They could see where she was going with this right? "It's a fairly simple charm that you all will learn..if you apply yourselves. I hope you all remembered to take the appropriate foot wear and your cloaks with you." She looked around the room at all of them. Right moving on. "This charm when performed correctly should be apply to shield you from elements of the weather. Any questions?"
Ok Hannah did not like being wet or dirty so this was sooo going in the opposite direction of how she wanted it to go. Hopefully she mastered whatever the professor threw at them quickly.
She didn't have any questions because her classmates had pretty much asked everything. She did however help herself to some coconut water and waited for the lesson to continue!
New spell. Sarah hurriedly took down notes.
This spell couls be useful in England... would it not. "Why did they have to pring things to protect us from the rain if the spell would do it anyway?

Harvey listened to the new charm that they were going to learn, it was an interesting charm to learn. No need for the muggle umbrellas or having to wear extra clothing if cast on oneself. He wrote down the questions and answers that came up as people asked questions to the professor cause he never knew when the information would come in handy. There were some pretty good questions being asked and interesting as well, including the one that Ella was asking. Was that it? was History of Magic and the Charms class linked in that way? He wondered as he waited for all the questions to be asked and answered since he had no questions to ask only note taking to be done.
Oh.. the neatness thing. Thomas quickly tucked in his shirt which was peaking out from under his Gryffindor jumper, and straightened his tie. It was about time he got used to this.. but they were never this strict on uniform in his muggle school.
He took a seat and took out his dreaded parchment, quill and textbook. Note taking was never much fun for Thomas, but he was improving. Thanks to a few tricks, and a bit of magic from his brother.
He pulled an irritated face when the nice direct warmth was eradicated by the professor. Was there really any need for that? It had made such a lovely change from the cold climbs of Scotland.
Protego? Tom had heard of it. Something to do with blocking, but he wasn't one hundred percent sure so he remained quiet, listening to the other kids. 'Yeah.. blockin'.'
As the class progressed, Thomas couldn't help a sudden feeling of dread. A feeling that Charms wasn't going to be fun today after all. Lucky he'd brought the clothing the professor had stated they needed for the lesson, but it didn't stop the feeling of dread in his stomach.
Questions? Nooooo, Tom had no questions.
Professor Bellaire slammed the door and this caught Emil's attention. Professor Bellaire ushered everyone to their seats, and Emil was glad about that because he didn't want to be propping against the wall throughout the entire lesson. He went to the chair nearest to him, combed his hair with his hand for a bit, and was now able to take out a quill and parchment. Professor Bellaire also used her wand to bring some clouds onto the ceiling, as to make the room a little bit cool. Emil was glad for that.
Professor Bellaire asked about the charm Protego and like all magic spells, Emil was clearly puzzled what it's for. He has an inkling that it's for "protection", as they do sound similar. Professor Bellaire also introduced the phrase Protego Caelum, and she mentioned that Caelum means weather. To Emil, he thought the professor was mispronouncing coelom, which refers to the body cavity. Emil couldn't help but chuckle a bit with that thought in his mind.
Emil also couldn't help but connect all the lessons in his mind. They were learning about making clothes in Transfiguration, and talking about the snow storm that stopped the Hogwarts Express 30 years ago in History of Magic. Now they're gonna learn how to protect their clothes against weather in Charms. Everything seems connected somehow ... he thought. Hopefully we're not gonna be put in a winter prison by something. I wouldn't mind cold weather, I just don't like sitting indoors. If they let us ski or skate or something, then I'd be fine if that happens here in Hogwarts.
Emil was just curious about something, because he's starting to remember what his mother told her in a story. Apparently, Protego is a pretty advanced charm. He remembered his mom telling him that the boy, Harry Potter, didn't learn the spell until he was a fourth year. So he raised his hand, "Professor, will those us in the first years be able to successfully cast this spell?"
