Summus Vestis... Summus Vestis...

Sophie kept repeating the incantation in her head while she tried some other ways of doing the wand movement. She wished she was able to perform nonverbal spells... if she already knew how, a brand new shirt was going to be there already. How fun would that be???

Summus Vestis... Wand wave. Summus Vestis... Wand wave.

The part she liked the least about this spell was that she had to think of an outfit. She really didn't care that much about fashion and whatnot, so it wasn't that fun to create her own outfit.

Summus vestis... Waaaaaving wand. Summus Vestis...

Well, enough playing around. She needed to decide what the shirt/top/whatever would look like so she could finish the homework. Putting her wand away for a few, Sophie pulled a piece of parchment and a quill out of her bag and sat down on the floor next to her dummy. She tapped the parchment with the tip of the quill for a bit while she thought, then she finally began to work on the drawing.

She imagined how she wanted the details of her sweater. Stars dropping down from the neck on golden trails of thread. The moon hanging from the center of the v-neck, full and silvery. She pointed her wand at the sweater and said, “Summus Vestis.” In an instant she saw the navy sweater disappear. Woah, wait! And in its place a gold and silver mash of colored yarn appeared and fell to the ground. Definitely not a sweater.

Well okay, that clearly doesn’t work the way I was hoping… She sighed a bit in frustration. Her sweater was finally how she had wanted it and she ruined it by trying to make it better. She looked at the lump of yarn on the ground, wishing instead of having to start completely over that there was just an undo button somewhere. Just cast the spell. There’s nothing you can do with it like this anyway, she told herself. Staring angrily at the yarn she held out her wand and said in a stern and somewhat grumbling voice, “Reverto.”

Seeing as her homework was due in only a few short days and she hadn't even gotten a good start, Sierra decided that NOW was the best time to head to the Transfiguration Homework Room and try to get started. Or finished, even. Walking into the room, she noticed that it was pretty much crowded with a number of other students. So everyone had pretty much waited until the last minute, hmm? Oh, well. It was better to get this over and done with soon. She still had to draw a picture of what she'd come up with, too.

She walked around the room until she found the dummy with her name on it. Another glance around the room showed her a pile of garbage bags they'd be using to transfigure a shirt of some kind. She left her dummy for a bit and went to the pile of bags. She plucked one off the top then headed back to her dummy. She spent a few minutes fitting the bag around the dummy's neck. With that, she figured she was ready to get started.

He was tap-tapping his wand against his other hand as he stared at the plastic-y form intently. He knew he was still having trouble visualizing it as anything other than plastic so he narrowed his eyes and squinted and angled his head.....

He must’ve looked like he was trying to be cute with a half-naked dummy wearing a plastic bag over its torso but believe it or not it was working, he can actually start visualizing the bag as something other than plastic.

He raised his wand hand before taking it back. He was trying to imagine turning it to a white t-shirt but it wasn’t quite happening. So he tried to imagine the shirt darker. Dark blue… maybe even black.

Finally he raised his wand hand and moving it with a quick flick Z-shape pattern while uttering the spell ”Summus Vestis”. There was another ripple effect that ran throughout the plastic-y surface and for a moment Vickers’ stomach plummeted, thinking it was going to turn into that bizarre vest again.

But no-- this time the shirt shape’s stayed the same way he had cut and stuck together. But it was still black though, like the garbage bag. He reached a tentative hand out and poked the blackness with two fingers…..

Lo and behold, it was a cotton fabric!

With the rubbish bag back to its previous spell thanks to the effects of the reversal spell, Gideon was once more back at square one. At least it seemed as if he had gotten the hang of the very basics of the spell; bag to shirt. Now he just needed to gain more control over the outcome so that it turned into something he would want to use towards his final project. There was no point in starting out with something that wasn't going to work with anything else, it would all go downhill from there. Perhaps nothing too complicated to have to try to duplicate later on.

Gideon let his mind muse over the incantation over and over in his head as he tried to visualize something he could work with. Blue for sure, most likely darker than he had already gotten out of the spell. He thought about going with a sky theme and decided to try it out again. "Summus Vestis." The spell rewarding him with an airy blue shirt that looked like a dreary-clouded sky.

Well that wasn't quite what he was thinking.

Sierra flicked her wand out her holster. She started to go right into the wand movement and incantation, but then she thought--what if I end up with something I don't like? Whatever they conjured was supposedly permanent, and she had to use it to complete the outfit that she'd work with all term. Yeah. She soooo wanted to make sure she did this right. Not only did she want to look decent, but she also hated to be a failure at anything.

A solid color would be best. What if she ended up with rainbow colored pants on accident? A solid color would at least look a little less embarrassing than two contrasting patterns. But then...what if a solid colored shirt wasn't creative enough? A rainbow-colored shirt might get her more points... She thought about it for a few seconds then decided on the rainbow-colored shirt. Surely creativity would win over the professor more than a solid colored shirt...

Here we go again. "Reverto," Gideon cast, bringing it all back to the rubbish bag. However it certainly looked the worse to wear and the Gryffindor wasn't sure about continuing on with it for fear it would effect the finished project. "Guess this is why we have access to extras," he mused almost to himself with a soft chuckle setting the used one aside. Then moving to pick up another from the bunch he had taken for his use from supply, he set it out in front of him to replace the previous one so he could get back to work. The sooner he could get this right the better to be ready when they moved on to the next item of clothing.

"Summus Vestis," he cast trying once more, marking the rubbish bag with a clear z-shape as in both times before. He watched as it morphed in response, the bag working its way towards a ruddy dark blue polo shirt. Its shape a bit maligned however. It seemed as the detail got more complex, the shape lost its clarity. That surely wasn't going to do at all.

"Reverto," Gideon said with a sigh.

Reinforcing in her mind what exactly she wanted her finished shirt to look like, Emmanuelle aimed at the trash bag again. Hopefully, this time, it would work. She didn't want to have to do the spell again. It was really irritating performing the spell over and over again. And she was really getting tired of the color green. Which was unfortunate, since that was one of her house's colors. Ugh.

"Summus Vestis," she cast again, moving her wand in a 'Z' movement. The bag changed again, this time into the shirt that she had been imagining. Finally! There were a few more stars than she had hoped but at least it was done.

He was running the tips of his fingers against the cottony dark surface. He still couldnt believe it-- its not plastic anymore, its nice and soft and breathable for the skin. He lifted the sleeves gently and gave it a sliiiiight tug, afraid that they would tear or fall off at the poiints where he stuck them. But so far the sleeves were staying where they are. Awesome!

He stood back and regarded the shirt. Its true that black is a classic color but with the success of transfiguring it to a cotton shirt he had feel embolden to keep pushing the boundaries. What if he tries to put a design in? Maybe add something to the collar?

He stared at the shirt for a moment and tried to visualize the Ravenclaw house crest that hung proudly in their common room. He had always found himself staring at it when he would pause from doing his homework, and its smooth lines have always given him some kind of reprieve. Would it be too much to expect putting that design on a shirt?

He could see it clearly in his mind's eye-- why not give it a try right? And so he lifted his wand and with a Z shaped wandstroke he uttered the spell "Summus Vestis".....

As silly Logan felt as his shirt didn't turn out perfect, her praise made him feel amazing. He beamed widely and practically puffed his chest out. Even though she hadn't gushed about it, he didn't care. Impressing her was important here.

Now it was time for him to concentrate, so he took a few moments to clear his head. Focusing only on what his shirt looked like, after a few moments, he pointed his wand at the bag again and repeated the incantation. "Summus Vestis." Zig-zag motion, and presto, another shirt had materialized on the mannequin. This one looked exactly like his design had, so it was perfect and he was even more happy.

He turned to look at Ness now. "Well done, Ness! I think I am done mine too." He couldn't notice any discrepancies between his paper and the finished product.

Sierra had decided on a rainbow-colored top, somewhat against her better judgment, and she was now nearly done picturing exactly what she hoped it would look like. It was striped, and the stripes were running in a horizontal direction. The stripes covered the entire shirt from top to bottom, including the sleeves. Sierra had her eyes closed and was putting all her focus into this shirt and what she wanted it to look like. No garbage bag...rainbow-colored-shirt. No garbage bag...rainbow-colored shirt.

As she opened her eyes, she raised her wand. She whipped it into a Z-shaped formation. "Summis Vestis!" she said. She quickly opened her eyes, anxious to see if she'd done things correctly. Her eyes fell upon a tie-dyed shirt. Err...no. What happened to her stripes?! This was NOT the shirt she'd pictured! With a wave of her wand, she said, "Reverto!" That shirt would NOT do. It looked strange and unusual and really, she'd just rather have the garbage bag than that thing. Tie-dye was completely not her style.

Eliza stared at the plastic bag on the mannequin before her. She was so tired of trying to make a shirt out of the thing, she would almost be overjoyed to hear that Transfiguration had been cancelled for the rest of the year. Okay maybe she didn't really feel that strongly about it, but she was pretty burnt out on making clothing. A whole outfit to go still... she thought to herself. Maybe she would get re-energized about it during the next lesson. She could only hope.

She pictured her long, navy blue, tight knit tunic, with gold stars along the v-neckline and a full moon at the center. Crescent moons at the ends of the sleeves, more stars along the bottom hem. Not too flashy, but not too plain. A bit of a pattern to keep it interesting, but not so overwhelming it was the only thing you saw about the garment. She really liked tunics, so this would be a versatile item for her. If I could ever get it right... she grumbled to herself.

Yes, she really had it in her mind this time. All of it. Not forgetting anything about how she wanted this to end up. Every single detail was clear to her. She knew she could do at least most of the tunic, now that she was totally dedicated to her design, she hoped it would be enough to make the spell work correctly. Or rather, make her cast the spell correctly. She supposed it wasn't really the spell's fault of course, only hers and maybe if she was fibbing a bit to herself - her wand's.

She closed her eyes and pointed her wand and made her Z motion while commanding - "Summus Vestis!!" She didn't want to open them, so she kept her lids squeezed tight and continued to visualize her tunic. She was entirely focused, entirely dedicated, entirely determined. When she felt that all of the magic must be done by now, she slowly creaked open an eye. Squinting at the mannequin, she saw a blurry shape of navy. That was a start. She slowly opened her other eye and allowed her eyes to refocus. Okay... yes....uh-huh.... She looked closer and inspected each section. It seemed to all be there. Finally! The stars were a bit wobbly and the hem may have been slightly crooked although it was the right length. And maybe the knit wasn't as tight and evenly rowed as she imagined but it was all still there. She would've been more excited under normal circumstances, but all of this work had left her feeling exhausted. Transfiguration was hard work! For her first year at least.

She was glad to be done and hoped her shirt would be acceptable compared to the other students'. She took a quick survey of the room, but not everyone was finished, so she would just have to wait until the next lesson to see. She left her tunic on her mannequin as instructed, and went off to her next class, relieved to be done with her homework assignment.

So it wasn't a shirt, but it was a start. His bag was in the shape of a shirt, but it was definitely still plastic-y in texture. Opposite problem of last time! "Reverto," he said and watched the semi-shirt turn back into a rubbish bag. I should definitely try that again. Good, but a long ways to go still.

Focused once more on the task and his picture of the desired outcome, he raised his wand for a third time to perform the transfiguration. "Summus Vestis." Pao's left wrist made the lightning-like motion to accompany the incantation.

And what do we have this time, Pao?

Once more he noted that the bag had turned into the correct shape. Check. Rubbing the material between his fingers, he was pleased that it was actually fabric. But.. The color is still the same as the bag, and there's no way I can wear a shirt that small. There's just so many things to think about! Kurumi wasn't kidding when she said I really needed to visualize everything.

Man, magic was tough!

Minerva didn't want to both Ethan anymore, while he seemed to moving along alright now, so Minerva turned back to her rubbish bag. Looking at her sketch one more time she really tried to focus, it was time to get it completely right. She had been working on it for way to long, as far as she cared. Transfiguration was always a subject she did pretty well in, so taking to long was unacceptable to her.

Pointing her wand Minerva did the Z over the bag and said as clearly as possible, "Summus Vestis" She watched as the bag started to change, hoping it worked correctly, she smiled as her shirt appeared correctly. "yes" she said out loud to herself. She thought it looked pretty good as well. Looking back at Ethan she smiled, "Well I have finished, but I could stay and help you some more if you need extra help."

As he uttered the spell the black shirt started to ripple again, but in finer waves this time, the threads within the cotton fabric seem to twist and change color, black then blue then something bright and glowing. Soon the darker elements of the shirt settles down-- not quite as flat black as it was before, since now there were bluish elements that gave the darkness more depth, almost like looking at the dark firmament of space. But certain areas still remain aglow, and Vickers eyes these luminous forms as they started to take shape, curving and turning and swirling together until the image in his mind now materializes before him-- the proud Eagle crest of the House of Ravenclaw sits artistically off one side of his shirt, and a few more off the side of his sleeves.

The Raveclaw steps back and looks at his creation. Slowly a grin tugs at his lips. It wasnt that bad now was it? Certainly better than that bizarre vest thing he unwittingly came up with in class. Setting his wand on the small table he neared the dummy again and lifted the shirt off, and let it hang between his hands. It looks good enough to wear now. Perhaps in the privacy of his dormitory he just might.

"Reverto."

Once again a crinkly garbage bag hung loosely around the neck of Pao Junior. Er... Pao Junior Junior, maybe? Because the first year was named after his grandfather, so this was the third Pao in line. "How about just Junior, okay?"

That settled, he once more closed his eyes and let the vision of his desired attire fill his mind. He breathed deeply. It was taking all the focus he could muster to block out the noise of others practicing and see the effects of the spell. So I obviously haven't been imagining this shirt big enough. Eyes still shut, he reached both arms out in front of him and brought them together, almost like he was praying. Then will a slow, deliberate motion, he spread his hands wide and moved them in opposite directions, all the while envisioning his shirt growing bigger and bigger in his mind. Yes, he was mentally zooming in on it.

Releasing what he realized was pent up breath, he opened his eyes and raised his wand. "Summus Vestis," he chanted while drawing out a large Z in midair. He felt his wand grow almost imperceptibly warmer as the magic coursed through it. Crinkle, crinkle, crinkle, was the noise the bag made as it re-formed itself into a shirt.

"Alright, progress!" Not only was the shirt actually shirt-shaped and made of cloth, but it was also much bigger-- A bit TOO big, actually --and close to the right color pattern! "You may only take one or two more tries, top!" He actually clapped his hands in delight before remembering there were other people in the room. Cheeks reddening slightly, he returned the shirt back to a bag with a quick word.

Ethan grinned at Minerva's excitement for his job well done as he was quite pleased as well. Maybe he was starting to get the hang of this one.. though he was sure it would never be a subject he excelled in. He watched the girl for a few moments as she worked on her own project. It seemed so easy for her..

He looked as his sketch again, memorizing every detail. The boy closed his eyes and took a few deep, calming breaths to relax himself. He opened his eyes and zigzagged his wand. Summus Vestis! The bag had turned into a shirt.. much like the one he had envisioned. "I did it!" he exclaimed to no one in particular.. more to himself. Sure the blue was sorta sketchy in some places.. but he had been here all day and he was tired of working on it.. not to mention he was hungry. He glanced over at Minerva to see she was finished too. "Nice work," he said with an approving nod to her shirt. "I think I'm finished too... I'll walk you out," he said as he grabbed his things to leave.

He needed to get an even balance between both shape and design. He needed more focus or determination for the spell to be effected in such a way for that to happen. Taking a seat on a nearby stool, Gideon paused from his transfiguration work to mull over how he might accomplish such a task to the best of his ability. After a few minutes, the seventh year leaned over to reach for his bag, opening it up and slipped out a spare bit of parchment and a quill from its contents. He thought perhaps having something upon which to draw from would help his focus so he planned to draw his thoughts onto the page.

Gideon began sketching out on the parchment, using the ideas he had already developed and one or two added bonus effects. Finally he was satisfied with his design at the moment and set aside the quill in his hand to take up his wand once more. It was time to attempt the magic once more. "Summus Vestis..." z-shape wand movement, his eyes switching between the drawing and the bag. "Summus Vestis..." z-shape wand movement upon the rubbish bag. He then let the spell take hold and watched for the transfigured shirt to take shape.

Better...much better progress.

...and with that, that silly, tie-dyed t-shirt was back to a garbage bag. Honestly, she'd prefer the garbage bag over that t-shirt she'd had before. It was totally not her style, was way too colorful, and just...no. Nope. Not at all. What exactly had she done wrong anyway? She'd pictured the shirt she wanted. It was rainbow in color, yes, but it was more of a toned down rainbow. It was striped, too. Not in some weird, swirly pattern. *sigh*

Sierra went through the whole process, again, of picturing the shirt she wanted. It was rainbow in color, that she was sure of. this shirt was striped, and nothing about it was swirly and tie-dyed. Sierra opened her eyes and fixed them on the garbage bag. She willed it to turn from a bag into the shirt she was imagining. "Summis Vestis!" she exclaimed, moving her wand in a Z-shaped formation.

Now that Emmanuelle's shirt was exactly how she wanted it, what was she supposed to do with it? Was she supposed to just leave it here? Or was she supposed to take it directly to the professor? Looking around to see what her classmates had done about their shirts, she noticed that a lot of them had just left theirs right where they were. Well, okay then. But Em decided to clean up her area a little. She tucked her parchment with her design into her bag and moved her mannequin back where it had been when she came into the room. Once that was done, she threw her bag over her shoulder and left.

So. It was time to try again. ...again. But the Hufflepuff was not to be discouraged! He was making progress, after all. In class, the best he could do was an awkwardly-shaped somewhat stretchy bag. But now I have a shirt! And, I mean, sure, it's way too BIG and it's HIDEOUS, but.. it's definitely clothing now. And he was getting the hang of this mental visualization thing. Oh, and the wrist movement and pronunciation! Yeah, he definitely almost had this in the bag. Oh.. terrible pun, that one, he mentally berated himself.

Right. Focus. Okay. Black on the left, yellow on the right. Black on the left, yellow on the right. Black on the... This chant continued through his head as the picture came into sharp focus in his mind's eye. The chant slowly morphed into the incantation. Summus Vestis, Summus Vestis, Summus... The left hand which gripped the wand moved through the Z in what mimicked slow motion. The internal became external as he said aloud, "Summus Vestis."

He knew it before the transfiguration was even complete. The bag morphed into exactly what he had been envisioning. "Black on the left, yellow on the right." He lifted the shirt from the mannequin and tried it on. "A bit roomy, but I kind of like them that way, anyhow." Besides, the young Mancini was a growing boy.

Well, I'm satisfied with that. He looked around, a bit unsure of what he was supposed to do with his shirt. "Er... just back on the dummy, I guess?" Pao peeled it off and replaced the bag-shirt. Great, just off to dinner, then!

Sierra finished casting the spell then let her wand arm drop back down to her side. She sloooooowly eyed the shirt, hoping for what she'd imagined and not another disaster. Her eyes landed on a different shirt than what she'd produced before. Hmm. It wasn't exactly what she thought she'd end up with, but somehow, she actually liked this shirt a little better. It was still rainbow-striped, but it had a unique design to it, too.

Sierra walked around and around the shirt, surveying it and deciding whether or not she wanted to keep it for her outfit. Ehh. It was decent. Done. She'd take it. She pushed her wand back into her holster and eyed her shirt. So what was she supposed to do with it now? The directions hadn't said, but in the end, Sierra decided to leave the shirt right where it was. After all, how was the professor supposed to grade her work if she took off with her shirt? Sierra gathered the rest of her belongings then left the room.

Still not quite right though.

"Reverto," Gideon cast again, bringing the new bag back to its former self so he could try again. He looked at his drawing debating on making changes to it but in the end leaving it alone. It had worked though, drawing his attention to what he wanted and helping him focus on that. That was all that mattered, and now he had to just be satisfied with his work.

"Summus Vestis..."

He was rewarded with a deep blue, short sleeved shirt with some darker swirls adding dimension. Stars where scattered around as well as the neckline, hemline and cuffs were all gold.

Cue one finished project.

Once Sophie finished drawing, she got up with her wand in one hand and the parchment in the other. After staring at what she had drawn for a few seconds, trying to remember every single detail of it, she did a normal-sized Z shape movement and though of the incantation once again.

Summus Vestis...

Okay, she was ready! This time it wasn't a sharp and short motion, nor a larg and slow one. The zig zag went normally and at a medium speed. "Summus Vestis." Sophie said firmly, not taking her eyes from the rubbish bag in front of her.

In no time, her dummy was wearing a blue shirt with light yellow and green waves all over. She walked around the dummy to make sure every wave was exactly where they should be. Once she made sure the shirt looked exactly like what she had drawn, Sophie smiled at her work and stepped back to observe it better.

Those were really nice colours! She loved it! Bending down, she put away the rest of her material and flung her bag over her shoulder as she stood up straight to look at the dummy again. Pocketing her wand, Sophie turned on her heels, giving her shirt one last smile before walking away, back to the Hufflepuff Common Room.

Hannah knew that she was on the verge of having an awesome top. She tried to drain everything from her mind that she knew was messing with her concentration. She closed her eyes and tried to think solely of her shirt and how she wanted every little detail to look.

Get it another go yes? She thought about her beautiful green silk shirt. The exact shade of green as her noble house was. She thought about every single sequin and how she would want the placed around the shirt. She thought about the proper neck length. Not too low cut, but not too high either. She thought about the 3/4 inch sleeves and how she wanted it to flow and just be perfect.

She had it this time. She just knew it. She shouted "Summus Vestis" while doing the zig zag wand movement. She stood there with her mouth open because right in front of her eyes was the exact shirt that she had imagined... the one that she had worked so hard on to get. She had finally done it and she was very proud of herself.
