sorry this took a while - had a long day of work and then class myself :D SPOILER!!: responses (not all in order) Alicia smiled at all the bright students who had given their answers. Some of course were spot on and others were well, not as close. With a light flick of her wand a chalkboard appeared in the front of the class with the spells that were to be used listed on the board. SPOILER!!: basic list of spells & charms "Alright everyone I know some of you may be wondering why Jewelry" she smiled to them all. With a laugh she answered her one question. "Its springtime - and we all know that means Mother's day is coming soon - why not just make something that ends up being free?" She nodded. "Now students I have heat resistant cloaks and smocks here for anyone who wants to use them because we don't want to accidentally harm someone with a hot-air charm" burns were no fun. "And for those of you who want to capture a zesty fruit such as lemon or limes or other juicy and possibly stingy-juiced fruits I have protective eye gear for you on the wall." She knew now was the time to get S-E-R-I-O-U-S. "Those of you who wish to create the fruit-trinkets in a mundane and non-magical fashion I do have a list of instructions that I can give you. The needed materials of this magical for and the mundane form can be found in the drawers of your work tables." She added quickly at the end. "Everyone please take the fruits you wish to work with from the cupboard here or the bin there and we will get started." With a flick of her hand the instructions also appeared on the board. Step one. Grab the fruit you want to use - and the protective eye gear or heat-resistant cloaks and gloves from the pegs on the wall if you do not have them with you at present. Materials: (magical) A Wand Dragon-hide Gloves // Waterproof (if needed) Protective Eyegear Newspaper (to place fruit on when slicing) Jump Ring (necklaces) or Ring & Earring Hooks Text Cut: mundane ingredients "When you return to your work tables we will begin by cutting the fruit that you have procured by using the spell Diffindo - if you need help with the spell come to me or ask a more senior student for aid." She would have said Ravenclaw but she didn't know maybe someone else would be as equally amazing at spells. Ooc: 1. Grab ingredients & matterials 2. Grab fruit/veggie 3. Cut fruit (and practice Diffindo) |
Text Cut: McFeisty Right. Kat went to gather the materials she needed. Those cloaks. Heat cloaks. Whatever they were. And those eye gears.... Well they were so out-of-fashion. But that wasn't a good enough reason not to wear it. She NEEDS to be protected from all those heat. Her hair's going to get frizzy, would they want that to happen? 'Course they don't, they wouldn't want Kat's father to be demanding them for payment right? No. Then the Slytherin went to gather the fruits she wanted. Apples, oranges, lemons, cherries? Yeah, that's good enough. She returned to her work table. Kat wore the eye gears and the cloak then started cutting her fruits. "Diffindo," she casted on her orange. She shaped it into a star. Well, she didn't find a star fruit at the fruit place cause if she did she wouldn't have been cutting her orange into its shape. Feeling more ease, she started casting the spell on her other fruits. |
sorry about her >________< Quote:
And with that Kurumi lowered her hand and sunk into her seat a little. Awkward. SPOILER!!: part 2 And then Kurumi FROZE in her seat. Mother's Day. WHY did this have to be for that. Chewing on her lip vigorously, Kurumi looked down at her parchment and refused to make eye contact with anyone. "What if you don't have a mother..." she muttered to herself. She didn't want to be here right now. In fact, she would much rather just pack up her things and go find Lewis. He always knew what to do or say when she got like this and it was in his arms that she felt the most comfort when her thoughts went to her mother and those final moments. The moments where she had literally seen life leave her. But she couldn't do that. She couldn't just leave in the middle of a lesson. She was a seventh year AND a student leader. She was supposed to set an example...but right now she didn't want to be all that. Eyes still downcast, Kurumi stood up to go and grab some fruit - strawberries - along with some newspaper and a jump ring and then returned to her seat. Slowly, she removed her wand from her pocket and just stared at the strawberry lying on her newspaper before giving her wand a quick flick and casting a silent Diffindo to slice it perfectly in half. |
SPOILER!!: McFeisty Mick excitedly shot out of his seat and grabbed the needed materials; a pum and a strawberry, the eye gear, gloves, newspaper, 2 jump rings/rings/earring hooks. He wanted to make a jewelry set for his mother and his aunt. A set for his mother because, well, he felt like he has to make a Mother's Day present for her, even though he doesn't see her as his mother. Aunt Ana, on the other hand, has been more of a mother than an aunt to him all of his life. Strawberries are his mother's favorite fruit. But Ana isn't a big fan of plums, but when Mick saw the plum earrings on display he thought the color would go nicely with her red hair. He took all of his items back to his table and took his wand out. He almost couldn't believe how giddy he was...No, he can actually. Anyways...He laid everything out, putting the fruits on top of the newspaper and wearing the eye gear on around his forehead. Taking the strawberry first, he pointed his wand, "Diffindo," shaping the first slice into a heart. Seeing how perfectly that turned out, he continued on by making the next 3 slices exactly like the first. |
Max had been silent so far, wondering why on Earth he had stumbled into this seminar today. Jewelry? That wasn't the most manly of wizarding tasks to learn today, was it? ...They were supposed to be making it for Mother's Day? Max frowned at that. But what about those that didn't have a mother - or parents at all? By saying that, wasn't the woman being kind of... insensitive? When he saw Kurumi freeze in her seat nearby, Max's face fell. His hand shot into the air, knowing the woman teaching this seminar was clearly foolish and needed some correction to her statement. "Err, ma'am, why can't we make the jewelry for any loved one? Can it just be... a relative, a friend, or... whoever we want?" He, for one, wanted to give his to Em. His gaze drifted back over to Kurumi to see if his suggestion was a better idea, then he went to gather some materials, including a starfruit - because Em was a star - and returned to his seat. Lifting his wand, he nonverbally cast Diffindo a few times, slicing the fruit into fairly thin pieces on the newspaper while he shielded part of his face with his free hand, just in case any juices went flying. A necklace would be cool, wouldn't it? |
SPOILER!!: Instructions Scribble.Scribble.Scribble. Making jewelry sounded like fun and luckily, Ella was familiar with most of the spells they would be using in the process. This made her feel a bit better about the thought of trying to create something she'd never made before. When the instruction commented on being curious about the seminar being on jewelry, Ella smiled a little. She actually was quite curious about that. Mhm. ... Mother's Day? Ella's stomach dropped and she suddenly felt like she was going to be sick. This wasn't happening, not in a class. She stared blankly at the Professor, wishing very badly that she could storm out of the classroom and go hide in her bed. Only she wasn't the type to make a scene and unfortunately, the Hufflepuff common room and dorms were still inaccessible. There was literally no where to hide right now. Right. Well crying was simply not an option and as Ella was stuck, she blinked back tears and stood up. She just had to focus on the task and not the reason behind it. She could do that, yeah? Yeah...yeah, she could. Walking over to the materials, the third year grabbed the eye-wear, gloves, and cloak before eyeing the fruit warily. She would be avoiding apples all together, as that was her Mother's favorite fruit. Instead she headed towards the strawberries, grabbing a handful blankly. She brought those materials back to her seat before making a second trip up to get some veggies, she didn't care what type. |
Elise nodded silently at the woman, taking notes and smiling a little at Kurumi's correction of the instructor. She was Kurumummy. And therefore was just amazing. And always right. Making jewellery did sound fun, and it seemed like something Lizzie would love. Mother's Day? Elise's face fell and she bit her bottom lip. Steadying herself on the table, Elise tried hard not to cry. She was so sure that the wound had healed, but apparently it hadn't. Blinking rapidly to prevent the tears from streaming down her face, she moved to collect the materials. Setting them down on her table, she stared at them blankly for a moment too long. A lone tear ran down her left cheek. Wiping it hastily with her sleeve, she pulled out her wand and eyed the strawberry on the table. Her mother loved strawberries. That was it for Elise. Dropping her wand, her knees shook and she crumpled to the ground, head between her knees, body shaking. "I can't do this," she mumbled, half to herself. |
Mrs. Teacher Lady, Kurumi, Ella, Elise, and a bit of Max :3 Text Cut: Instructions Alice loved the idea of making things out of food. Honestly, who wouldn't? She could give Messer some pretty vegetable jewelry for his next birthday. And she could make Alec some Superman earrings with red peppers! And Ellasaurus.. how would she like an Ellawoman fruit necklace? Yeah. This thing was totally working in her favour. She intended to get started right now. And just as she stood.. Mother's Day? And then came Kurumi's question, the one that she knew a handful of people in there were waiting to ask. What if you don't have a mother? The little girl sniffled. Her eyes stung. Usually, word's like that didn't hurt so badly. But in a room full of people bustling about, making gifts for their mums, what else could you expect from the lioness? She raised her hand in Kurumi's defense, echoing the big Ravenclaw Keeper. "I like Max's idea. About giving the jewelry to our other family members." That kid was good at saving things other than Quaffles. "Can I give the earrings I'm gonna make to my Gramps instead? He sure would look lovely in them." Without waiting for an answer, she picked up her bag and all the materials she had brought and placed them in a seat next to Kurumi's. Which was also rather close to Ella's. Her Hogwarts mummy and her dinosaur both looked like they could use a friend. "Hiii, Kurumi-Cookie. Ellasaurus. I'm taking refuge in your camp, if that's okay?" she asked blankly, swallowing the big lump in her throat. She didn't wait for an answer to that question, either. After blinking back those tears, Alice immediately hopped over to the materials area and began to gather what she needed. OHAI spiffy pair of Dragonhide gloves. Yep, she was gonna use those. As she pulled on a pair of giant goggles that she had found, her eyes magnified to ten times their normal size. You could bet she looked cool NOW. Then she fetched herself a handful of strawberries and a lump of newspaper and sat them down right next to Kurumummy and Ellawoman. She began slicing them in half immediately. "Diffindo. Diffindo. Diffindo. Diffindo." Except.. with all the motherly thoughts, her aim had been totally off. Whoops. "Kurumi, do you know how to fix that?" Puppy eyes. AND. Maybe she needed to drag Elise over here to Camp Mommy-less. The little girl quickly hopped up out of her seat and grabbed her friends hand, dragging her over to her table. "Need a friend, Elly?" Yep. Of course she did. "You can sit with us." The motherless. The bitter. The wibbly. The useless. The cranky. The wet and sad and teary. BUT. They were family, yep, yep. |
They were making jewelry for...Mother's Day? Well that was...awkward... Penelope frowned. She was already not too thrilled by all this since she was pretty sure she didn't really know most of the spells they seemed to be using, but now that there was this too... The older Ravenclaw boy's suggestion to use it for any loved one or relative seemed good, but still...for her, her grandmother and Aunt Miranda wouldn't want anything she made either. And she didn't want them to have it anyway. Who else did she have that she could give it to? Maybe...Vashti? Or Anya? Or maybe Daphne, Atticus's girlfriend...? Biting her lip a little as she tried to figure it out and forget about the parents thing - it shouldn't be too hard since it wasn't like she'd ever actually been able to celebrate Mother's, or even Father's, Day before - she got up to get the materials and fruits, gathering them without really paying all that much attention or thought on what she grabbed. Or even to anything else really. Returning to her seat, she sat down and...right, what was the next thing they were supposed to do...? |
Miss Teacher and Elise SPOILER!!: Elise Oh god, Ana is going to love this! Mick was in the middle of shaping one of the 4 plum slices into a star for his aunt's jewelry set when he heard a thump on the floor. His concentration fell, making the star plum fall onto the newspaper, and he turned around to see what it was. It was a semi-familiar face, trembling on the floor. Mick wondered, where has he seen her before? Once he walked a little closer to the girl's, he suddenly remembered her. Not knowing what to do, he turned to the instructor of the seminar and raised his hand. "Um, mamsell?" he called out. "I think something's wrong, I don't think Elise is feeling well - or something...?" |
Group hug! <33 lots of you in here :3 *tweeks timelines and hopes this makes sense* Wand still in hand, Kurumi debated doing something else with Diffindo, shaping her two halves of strawberries on her desk, but ended up mostly just staring at them with vacant expressions. It had only been a year and a half ago since it had happened. The scars were still there...still fresh...and it was hard to not think about it... And then Max spoke and drew Kurumi's attention towards him. Her expression didn't exactly change, per say, but some of the color returned to her cheeks. She was eventually able to pull her lower lip away from her teeth which then allowed her lips to curl into a very VERY small smile. Catching his gaze for a moment, Kurumi was just barely able to mouth the words thank you to the Ravenclaw before she returned her attention to her strawberries... That is until Elise had fallen to the floor. Jumping to her feet, knocking her knees on the table in the process, Kurumi scurried over towards the girl and helped her back to her feet while one arm slipped around the girl's shoulders. "Here, come sit by me." And then Alice came over and Kurumi passed the Ravenclaw off to her while she went to see what Penelope was doing - because she too seemed to need a hug. "Penelope, you alright? You can join our table if you want?" You know, all the ones that were feeling awkward about all this so they could all bathe in each other's awkward and soak up each other's awkward. Yep. Essentially pushing Penelope's desk closer to the rest of the group - which wasn't that far away to begin with - Kurumi sat down and was immediately questioned about something by Alice. Fix something? "Hmmmm? Oh." Alice was making paper-mache? Pushing the shreds of newspaper back together, Kurumi waved her wand and cast Reparo to make everything whole again. "There, just be sure to aim for your fruit next time." See? Younger students were a good distraction. This was good. Until she looked back at her strawberry slices that is...then she forgot about the other distractions. Sigh. |
Ethan was more than happy to see a couple other blokes in this seminar. Now he didn't feel so outta sorts. He shot a grin to his mate, Mick, then turned his eyes to the front as it was about to begin. Yep, jewelry.. he knew it.. Well, maybe it wouldn't be half-bad. At least it was botanical, which was pretty cool in itself.. The boy didn't venture any guesses about what sorts of spells they might use. He didn't have any idea on how to make jewelry.. and the answers provided by his classmates seemed valid enough anyway. The boy jotted down the spells that they would be using then went over to grab two cloaks and two pairs of eyewear. Bringing them back to the table he and Minnie shared, Ethan glanced back up at the instructor. Mother's Day.. Well, that might be an idea. He certainly wasn't making any jewelry for himself so he'd definitely be making something to give away. Then he suddenly remembered something and glanced over at Minerva. Mother's Day probably wasn't the best thing for that teacher lady to say right then.. He heard Max say something about making a gift for any loved one. Ethan leaned over to Minnie and said with a smile, "I think you should make something for yourself.. I bet a strawberry bracelet would look beautiful on you." He would not be making something for himself however.. he was sure kiwi earrings would not suit him. Ethan glanced back over to her with a reassuring smile, hoping he had been quick enough to divert her thinking from dwelling too much on her parents. |
Lots of people and things and Awww The third year quietly put on the eye-wear, gloves, and cloak before realizing she didn't have her wand out. She reached for it and stared blankly at the fruit and vegetables she'd gotten, resisting the urge to destroy them. Yes, because destroying her materials was really the only way she felt comfortable expressing all the emotions that were built up inside her right now. A person wasn't meant to feel this much. They just weren't. Before she could begin slicing things, the blonde heard Max's voice and turned her head in his direction. She didn't dare make eye contact with him because as her Hogwarts brother, he could probably tell just by looking at her how she was feeling at the moment. She did really want to jump up and hug him, though. Because what he'd asked made her feel a bit better, even if most of her still wanted to cry at the moment. Wand pointed at a strawberry, Ella frowned slightly and tried to concentrate on slicing it in half. "Diffindo." She watched as the strawberry was slit though it wasn't nearly as neat as she'd hoped it would be. MEH. It didn't really matter anyway. Someone who did matter though, Hulk. Ella gave her friend a faint smile as she joined her and Kurumi, trying not to let on how sad she was. "Hi Hulk." She said quietly, eyes flickering from her friend back down to her fruit. She didn't dare hold eye contact too long with Alice either, knowing she was quite the detective. She wanted her feels to be her own for now, even if it was extremely comforting to be around people who felt like she did about this assignment. "Diffindo." She said again, slicing the strawberry into small pieces. She looked up when more people joined their group, offering a sad smile to the other girls. Ella didn't speak though, not trusting her voice at the moment. She needed to focus on chopping fruit, that was what was holding her together right now. |
Kurumummy, Alice and a little Penelope. And anyone else who thinks it's for them. Elise hugged her knees to her chest, shaking rather violently and staining her robes with her tears. Memories of her mother that Elise thought she'd forgotten resurfaced immediately and brought on a whole new wave of tears and Elise was struggling to break free from their grasp. Hearing a familiar accented voice, Elise broke out of her reverie and looked up to see a pair of violet eyes staring at her. Kurumummy! But just before Elise could cling to her psuedo-mother, she had moved towards another Gryffindor. Why were all her mothers leaving her now? Elise put her palms to the floor in a feeble attempt to push herself off it when she heard another voice. Alice. "Ally?" she whispered, reaching for her younger friend. "You don't mind?" she asked, finally mustering enough strength to push herself off and onto her feet although she remained in a crouch for a while before standing. So gathering her courage and her equipment, she gave Alice a feeble hug before shuffling over to Kurumummy's station. She was not going to cry any more. No. It wasn't important, and Elise should have gotten over it. It happened 5 years ago, and she needed to get a grip on reality. |
Everything's okay, good...Mick shrugged his shoulders and nodded to the girl, then contently returned to his table. He leaned over his table and thoughtfully stared at his items; as bad as it sounds, he didn't want to finish his mother's present. His mother doesn't care for holidays of any kind and he didn't want to give her a present if she's not going to acknowledge such a holiday that is Mother's Day. It felt more natural and fun making something for his awesome, motherly aunt because Mick knows that she'll love it. His mother?...He's not so sure about that. Wait a second...Have I ever given her a present before? No...Huh, weird. Regardless of what happens, he's going to finish the second set anyway. If his mother doesn't care, he'll just give it to someone else. Like Laura - that's not a bad idea! Whatever. Mick returned the smile to Ethan and Minnie and continued shaping his plum slices into stars. |
SPOILER!!: Professor and Ethan Minerva listened as the teacher for the day started talking about what they were actually going to do. Making Jewelry, that sounded like it was going to be fun. It was at least something that wasn't going to require homework afterwards, well she hoped not at least. She liked doing fun things that weren't just regular classes and looking over to Ethan, it would be fun to work with him even if he might not enjoy making Jewelry as much as she was going to. Minerva then heard the teacher say Mother's Day.. Oh... she had forgotten about that in that last few years, being here kept her mind away from some of the holidays at home. Looking towards the teacher she thought about that holiday and how much it changed over the last three years, wow three years.. Then it hit her.. It's march, it was three years this month. Shaking her head she thought is it was suppose to be a gift maybe she could make it for her grandmother. Then she saw Ethan coming back to the table not even realizing he had left, was her mind wondering that much. Smiling she saw he had gotten her supplies as well.. "Thank you, Ethan" Then she blushed a bit, "Aww do you think? Well if it's suppose to be a gift, maybe I'll make it for my grandma." She smiled hoping to show that she was alright, she would be alright. Minerva then got up, "Maybe I will use strawberries, they always smell wonderful and are a pretty color." She got went over and got the strawberries and headed back to her table. "Are you going to make something for your mom?" She didn't know his mom so she felt she couldn't help with ideas. Taking out her wand she carefully cut the strawberries to get started on her jewelry. "Diffindo, Diffindo" Smiling at Ethan as she worked, this was fun as long as she didn't think of the Mother's Day part of it. |
The metal parts were already provided for? Vickers just nodded his head silently, the one thing that held his interest about their task pretty much gone. He stood up, taking his time collecting their supplies, allowing others to go ahead. It was then that he heard about Mother's day.... Uhm.... okay. It would be hypocritical to say that he didnt celebrate mother's day..after all his grandmother was still very much alive and he greets her along with his uncle. But as his own mother has passed away when he was a toddler, making a pair of earrings for one who will never wear it feels a bit pointless to him. His days of making letters and artwork and laying them in the family crypt has pretty much passed him by. When it was finally his turn he grabbed a handful of fruits and returned to his workstation, then took out a few more of the needed materials and lined them up neatly along his desk. It was then that he took note of the fruits he managed to get ahold of and tried to figure out the design of the jewelry he could come up with. Not quite as easy to pull off as he was totally out of sync with the mindset that comes with making these kinds of trinkets... |
-_________- She was officially not amused. This whole seminar thing was just so they could make a bloody Mother's Day gift? Scowl. This had to be the worst. First the sugar crash and now this? Couldn't she get a break? Was it even really that time of the year again? It didn't seem so long ago that she'd made the last gift then smashed it repeatedly until it was unrecognizable. That was her Mother's Day tradition; one that she'd gotten quite use to too. Once she'd destroyed her works they all went to be with her mother and NO ONE was going to tell her otherwise. That being said, she remembered the last time she tried that diffindo spell; nearly lost a finger or three and she didn't think she needed to go through that again just for something she was going to destroy anyway. Nope. But she was already here, wasn't she? Mm. There was no point in sitting there like a log, besides, fruits could have been just as fun to smash. They may not make that same shattering noise but they would do so she forced herself up and got everything she would need. After slumping back down in her seat she eyed the fruits long and hard |
Awar picked her fruits and gathered her materials before sitting down at a table. "Diffindo!" She sliced her strawberries and kiwis as she noticed various students not taking the Mother's Day project too well. She turned back to her fruits, thinking how lucky she was that her mother was still alive. |
Once Minerva was done with the strawberries she moved them aside and took the Kiwi that she had grabbed as well. She thought about maybe making two different things, she hoped they were allowed. Looking around to see if anyone else had different fruit she shrugged and turned back to her fruit. Lifting her wand she began cutting the kiwi as well. Making sure to cut them in even slices she shook her head when she messed one slice up. "Oh darn it.. That wasn't as straight as I wanted." She tried to just blow it off and continued to cut the rest of her kiwi. |
Jory gathered all the stuff needed and set them down at his table. He decided he would use strawberries. His mom's favourite fruit. Now for the slicing. He got his wand out and began. "Diffindo,'' he said and the srawberry in front of him was cut neatly in half. Well, not totally neatly but it could pass, he decided. The Puff continued on slicing the other stawberries. |
SPOILER!!: Professor Belle was excited to make some new jewelry. She loved the idea of making it out of fruit and even better? She is making it for her mom. She knew her mother would love this jewelry. Belle went up to the front to get her favorite fruits and even what her mom liked. She picked out oranges, strawberries, kiwi's, plums and all the others. Then she took the goggles for an extra safety precaution. Can not be too careful right? She even got Dragon-hide Gloves to not burn her hands. Protective Eye gear, Newspaper and Jump Rings (necklaces) or Ring & Earring Hooks. As Belle was all prepared, she put on her gloves, got out her wand and put the fruit on the newspaper. Belle looked like a science dork but she like it. She even put her hair in a pony tail. Then she said, "Diffindo!" and started cutting her fruits in shapes. She made circles, stars, squares and even triangles. Well tried to at least. |
Jen glared at the professor lady. What if she didn't have a mother? Or any aunts or REAL family? Which she knew she didn't. What if she didn't want to make stuff for Leila? Why did she even come to this stupid class? Questions, questions. Which she didn't bother to ask. Jenny decided to make the stuff anyway, scowling. Decide who to give it to later. It was gonna be tacky and stupid, though. She wasn't the most artistic person. She picked up a pair of gloves and slipped them on, before heading to collect some fruit from the front. Jen picked oranges and lemons and placed them on some newspaper. The young Snake took out her wand and said, "Difindiao!" She stomped her foot when she got tounge-twisted and watched as her first orange exploded. Hmmph. Take two. Jennifer cleared her throat. "Diffindio!" she said loud and clear. Yay! She'd made a wonky orange star! But it wasn't straight enough. So she threw it on the floor and jumped on it. Time to try again. |
Totally ignoring all the looks and group makings going on, Emmanuelle thought about what fruit and what kind of jewelry to make for her mom. She knew that she prefered stud earrings, so those were out. And she still wasn't quite sure on the whole ring thing. Besides, she didn't know her mother's ring size. So necklace it would have to be. That decided, Em walked over to pick up the jump rings, newspaper, gloves, and eyewear. After a bit of thought, she picked out some strawberries and kiwis as her fruit. Her mom loves strawberry-kiwi flavored smoothies, so they were a good fit. Going back to her table, she laid out the newspaper and began cutting the fruit. "Diffindo." The kiwi she was trying to cut spilt perfectly in half. |
