Seminar Three: Apples, Oranges, and Pears, Oh My! The classroom was brightly decorated and filled with the tantalizing scent of fresh picked fruits and vegetables. The rows of desks that normally occupied the room had vanished away and in their stead there were long tables, though these weren’t the science-y ones you find in those Muggle academies. No, these were craft tables. The unbreakable glass topped worktables came stocked with all the supplies necessary to make jewelry the Muggle way – cutting boards and of course a crank-operated fruit slicer. Each worktable could sit groups of four students or more if they were small enough, however the older students could fit less comfortably on at the stations. In the right corner of the room there stood an enchanted cupboard with assorted fruit and vegetables tucked away into neat little boxes. Next to that was a large bin filled with apples, oranges, lemons – and other such fruits and vegetables that weren’t half as fragile as the others; and on a peg near both hung an assortment of smocks, gloves, and protective eye gear in case people needed them and didn't seem to have their own. A kind-looking blond woman is sitting at the front of the room behind her own startlingly organized craft table. A box of rings, necklaces, and earrings were sitting in front of her, all looking positively edible - but unfortunately quite tasteless. "Bienvenu and welcome," yes she knew they meant the same things but she was too excited to remember not many of these little kiddies spoke French. She smiles brightly at you and continues speaking, happy you chose to join her. "Please find a table, sit, and make yourself comfortable." She was ready to show people what beauty fruit could bring. She just hoped no one would start eating lacquered fruits in here... |
Oichi really had not had to go to previous seminars she heard about being so busy with her increased actual class load as a third year. However she finally got into a good groove with classes and finally had some free time and hearimg how much fun the previous seminars were she decided to check the latest one out. Upon arriving her eyes popped open at the bright colors and quickly noticed vraft tables that seated four. She took a seat and noticed shiny little bead and trinket supplies. She smiled knowing she was more then likely in for a good time making something beautiful. |
Kurumi really wasn't sure what to make of this seminar, only knowing the title of it and that it only consisted of fruit. So, here she was with no expectations whatsoever and a look of complete confusion on her face as she stepped in the door. At least the smell was pleasant? Kurumi sort of just bowed when the woman said...whatever it was she had just said to the Gryffindor as she entered. "Good day," she said, bowing again. "Kurumi Hollingberry, Gryffindor prefect. Welcome to Hogwarts ma'am." Turning to find a seat, her violet eyes scanned the area and all the fruit and... jewelry? Were they going to turn fruit into jewelry...like how Luna Lovegood had radish earrings? There were also Dirigible plum-shaped earrings as well, rumored to enhance the wisdom of their wearers, but Kurumi didn't entirely buy into all that. Finding a place, Kurumi took her seat and waited for things to unfold. |
Maybe it was time to attend a seminar, eh. Kat walked into the room that was used previously for Duelling Club. Merlin, she missed it. She didn't really know the whole point of this seminar but with fruits and all that jazz, she'd like to attend it. She didn't attend the second seminar anyway and she wasn't all active on the first one. Maybe she'll make it up and do better here on the third one. Since she thought it was interesting. Maybe the woman who'd speak to them was that... Celandine lady? Yeah, Kat thought she was pretty fly. "Good day, miss," Kat greeted and smiled at the lady in front of them. Aw, it wasn't Celandine. But maybe this woman, French speaking, was cool too. Only way to find out. "I'm Katrina Hudson." And no title in particular. Unless you wanted Slytherin's Pop Princess, or Slytherin Chaser, or Slytherin's budding Beater, or... name it. You can even call her Kitkat if you want, but no. Looking around the room, Kat noticed fruits... FRUITS. That made Kat a bit hungry. Meh, probably she needed to eat a better dinner later on. And gloves and all those, they weren't going to learn how to plant those fruits right? She's had ENOUGH of that in Herbology. No, no. Then, the blonde took a seat and waited for more people to join in. |
The rather odd seminar title had piqued Emmanuelle's curiosity, so here she was. Looking around, she saw that they were actually dealing with literal fruits here. But what exactly they would be doing with said fruit, was still a mystery. Until she spotted the woman who would be teaching this seminar and her box of fruit jewelry. Well, that was a rather odd use for fruit. But the thing that really excited her was that the woman spoke French! She hadn't met another French speaker the whole time she had been at Hogwarts. "Bienvenue, Madame! Je m'appelle Emmanuelle Moreau." (Welcome miss. My name is...) Yep, she was so excited that she had slipped into her native tongue. But she figured that would be okay, just as long as she didn't spend the entire lesson doing that. Anyway, she picked herself a table and sat down, shoving her bag under it. She was going to sit there and wait for instructions, since she really didn't know how to make jewelry. Especially with fruit. |
Minerva saw the notice that there was yet another seminar. She liked the seminars, but there was just so much work going on at the moment she wasn't sure if she should have even come, but Minerva missing a class or seminar was just not something she could put in her vocabulary so here she was. Looking around she saw just a few people so far. Then the smells hit her. Oh that smelled good, she loved the fruit smell in the room and smiled a bit. Looking towards the lady who would be doing the lesson today Minerva smiled, "Hello, thank you for taking time to come and teaching us something new. I'm Minerva." She then turned and headed for a seat. Once seated she pulled out her parchment and quill to get ready for the lesson to start. |
Ethan had been unable to come to any of the previous seminars due to scheduling conflicts. But when he saw one that would be dealing with fruit, he jumped on the chance to go. As Herbology was one of his favorite subjects, he was hoping this would be about experimental botany.. maybe grafting different types of plants together.. creating new genetic types.. His mind was abuzz with different ideas of what this class could be about.. until he stepped into the room. Green eyes took in all the supplies that were laid out. They were making jewelry? Ok.. not really what he was expecting.. He thought for a moment of making a run for the door, but as the woman at the front caught his eye, he smiled warmly.. his smile growing as she spoke. "Bonjour, Madame," he answered back in one of the few languages he was fluent. And then he made his way to find a seat. Of course, he noticed he was the only boy there.. apparently the others already knew it was about jewelry.. And then he spotted Minnie, he gave her a smile and took a seat next to her. |
A seminar and fruit! Mick caught a whiff of the smell of fresh fruits and suddenly his sleepy mood perked up. He loves fruits, well, who doesn't? What are the chances of us eating the fruit? He wondered that as he remembered eating a bowl of cereal with a lot sugar before the Gryffinpuff match, it occurred to him that he needs to make better choices in regards to the first meal of the day. Maybe eating breakfast before class would do finely too, but now he's stuck thinking about eating because he didn't have breakfast. Oh well. He couldn't take the fruit or vegetables anyway, it seems to be guarded by a nice looking lady. Oh well, indeed. We probably aren't allow to eat during a seminar anyway. "Guten tag, Mamsell," he greeted politely to her, in the little German he knows. "Mien name ist Mick DeLarge." (Good day, misses, my name is Mick DeLarge.) He stopped to look over the room for a nice spot and wouldn't he know it, Ethan and Minnie are here too. They probably want to sit with just themselves. Mick decidely took the seat at the table next to theirs, he didn't want to impose on them. |
So Ella wasn't exactly sure what this seminar was going to be about but hearing that it involved fruit, the third year assumed it also involved eating. If that were true, it was clear Ella had to check it out, being the food enthusiast that she was. Entering the classroom, the third year smiled at the unfamiliar woman and took in the delicious fruity scent that was wafting out the door. Mmmm. "Hello, I'm Ella Bishop." She greeted cheerfully before looking around for a seat. Spotting Mr. Lewis' lady, Ella grinned and took the seat beside her. BEAM. "Hi Kurumi!" |

The first thing he noticed was the tables. Not the usual set up for in a classroom but actual working tables ..with a glass surface. Mweh hopefully for the Professor it wasn't breakable. The second thing was the smell, a fruity smell. He didn't care what they were going to do this lesson, he was happy and that was what counted right? He did not understand the woman's way of greeting though and the Slytherin frowned upon hearing the french word. It sounded french anyway... "Ehm.. Hello Professor! Welcome to Hogwarts" he smiled politely before making a short bow in greeting and turned around to find a place to sit. Spotting his not related sister, Daichi grinned widely as he moved towards her. He was about to sit next to her when Ella had been first and he pouted. "Kurumi kurumi!" he said as he literally grabbed the girls arm from where he was standing and shook it not so lightly. "Guess what! , no don't guess i wanna say! Indy said yes, i got a girlfriend" he said excitedly as he was looking in front of him with a goofy smile on his face. He didn't care if anyone else was hearing this as well. Daichi was with Indy now and no one could stop him hmpf! |
Sarah was excited for another seminar.. and this one looked interesting to say the least. Fruit everywhere and a woman with interesting jewlery. "Hello"" she said, "my name is Sarah Edwards" |
Another seminar! Woot! Seminars were bound to be total fun! They were so much better than classes according to Ira. This time around, her curiosity was piques by the interesting name. Was it all about fruits and vegetables and like? Hmm.. not too good.. But wait, it could be something else too! So, eager to know what actually was gonna be done, Ira had come to the seminar, smiling cheerfully. Entering the room, she slung her bag on the desk and sat down herself, "Good day Ma'am.." French, "I'm Ira Wilson, fourth year Gryffindor" she said smiling. Let the seminar begin soon!! |
Awar skipped in and took in the fruity scent in the air. This looked like it was going to fun, but what exactly would they be doing? She shrugged to herself and took a seat. |

"Hello dear, welcome" she smiled it wasn't long before she was joined by another girl. Quote:

When he brought up having a girlfriend to his obvious friend she just smiled. Love and romance were things that were most obviously a great part of the french culture. "Oh that's wonderful dear, congratulations on finding love" she winked at him. Quote:

"Hello everyone I know by now you must be wondering what we will be doing - and the answer is simple" she smiled as she picked up a display of different jewelry. Walking around she placed examples at the different tables. "We are going to be making jewelry out of fresh and real fruit and vegetables...if you do get hungry i ask you not try and eat these as some of them have muggle resin on them and thats not edible but feel free to have some of the fruits in the cupboard." She smiled. Waving her wand the displays showed up at each table. Moving and sitting on the top of the desk she just smiled to everyone before asking a blanket question to everyone in the room. "Alright everyone I have a few questions before we start, first off raise your hands if you want to learn how to make your own jewelry?" She asked with a warm smile. "Secondly can anyone guess what some of the spells we might use to make the jewelry?" she asked with a soft smile. Maybe people would have fun with this no? ooc: First Display: Kiwi Earings Second Display: Multiple Necklaces & Rings (ect) Third Display: Plum Earings If you haven't arrived yet, yes its starting but please join in. |

Then she saw another familiar face and she nudged Ethan to show him he wasn't he only boy anymore and that his friend just walked in the room. "Hey Mick, Laura coming to this seminar?" She smiled at the boy still happy about how he was at the last match. He was one interesting boy and she was glad she got to become friends with him. Quote:

Vivi took a seat near Kurumi, although she left the girl alone for now aside from the usual finger wiggle. She was much more taken by having a French-speaking teacher than anything else, and when she had a moment, Vivi added a pert little, "Bonjour! Je m'appelle Genevieve Branxton." Funny how she missed French now that she didn't speak it every day. Wait. They were making jewelry?? How was this a magical activity? Vivi's chin dropped a bit as she gave the woman a loooong look. Was this a trick? Some sort of plot to get people to be girly by pretending to teach a class while secretly accessorizing them? "Erm..." She raised her hand at the question. "What about Diffindo? A severing charm to cut the fruit into perfect slices?" |
Awar raised her hand ecstatically at the first question and then raised her hand again for the second question. "Maybe a spell that froze them like they are? Or coated them with some substance." |
Ella smiled a little when she found out what they'd be doing with the fruit. Making jewlery sounded pretty awesome, maybe not as awesome as eating the entire class but still... The third year raised her hand, a smile on her face. She totally wanted to learn how to make jewelry. Cause then she could make Gran stuff which would be nice! Oh and Sophie...Soph loved colorful stuff and fruit was definitely colorful. Mhm! As for the second question, Ella furrowed her brow a bit in thought. What kind of spells would be used to make jewelry? Hmm..."Umm...maybe the gouging spell could be used to erm...to carve? Or um...Duro makes objects harder." Yeah. Those seemed legit. |
Hai Vivi Another seminar. Meh. Lex wasn't feeling much in the mood for one of these. She'd eaten a bunch of fizzing whizbees and now felt like she'd been hit by a bus. This was the part about sugar that she didn't like; it made you crash afterwards. Even though she'd been seated at another table she got up and planted herself right next to the one person who might have been able to make her feel better. Lex gave Vivi a little wave and a small smile before slumping down and resting her head on the table, listening to the woman speak. At first she wasn't going to raise her hand but then she figured she might as well so she did. In all honesty she would have loved making jewellery if she wasn't feeling so bloody awful. As for a spell they might use... "Could you use a transfiguration spell to change the colour of the pieces to something you like more?" |
"Oui, er yes Madme," she answered with a smile, figuring that it might be better to use English now, lest her classmates think she was trying to become a teacher's pet. Which she wasn't, but others might get that impression. Anyway, the lesson was starting now, so Emmanuelle sat straight up and paid attention. And was impressed by the jewelry being displayed. You couldn't even tell some of them had been made of fruit! Her hand shot up when the professor asked who wanted to learn how to make their jewelry. It was something that she had always been interested in, but had never found the time to actually learn. And now Hogwarts had taken care of that for her. "Hmm. Maybe a spell to keep the fruit from rotting?" Or maybe there was some kind of potion or coating or something that took care of that? |
mentions of Daichi & Vivi in here <3 Settling down in her seat, Kurumi's attention was drawn to a certain younger Slytherin when he not only called her name but also went into school boy charm mode in telling her what she had been wondering about ever since their talk in the Transfiguration practice room. Truth be told, she still thought that there was something between him and Juliet, but she was just glad to see the ridiculously wide smile on his face when he proclaimed that he had a girlfriend. Giggling softly, Kurumi waved back at him and returned the smile - just not nearly as wide. "Congratulations, Daichi," she whispered. "Maybe sometime we can double date then?" Or, wait...that would probably be really awkward for Daichi considering how much he, well, how much he had liked her and Jonathan being together. Then again, she really wanted Daichi to get to know Lewis and be friends with him because they were both very important people to her. Vivi got a small finger wiggle greeting back as she entered, and then Kurumi's jaw somewhat dropped when the blonde spoke in a foreign language back to the woman. Oh yeah. French. Of course Vivi would know the language considering where she had transferred from and all. And then the lesson began and Kurumi's initial suspicions were at least confirmed. So they WERE going to make jewelry...although she was honestly hoping that they were making something as more than just an accessory. She had had enough of fashion related lessons for a life time. Fashion seminar last term. Trasfiguration this term. Now this? Thinking for a moment, Kurumi raised her hand. "Some sort of preservation spell? Something that will make the fruit you are using not rot while also retaining its shape and color and...um...smell." If smell was something that was desired to keep around that is. Could be used as a repellent or something maybe. Attract something as well...similar to the effects of the smell of fresh strawberries... *blush* |
Vickers sat quietly in his seat, which wasnt unusual for the lanky Eagle lad, what was unusual of course was that he sat off to the side where students wouldnt be seen as quickly. Suffice it to say when he walked in he was expecting a seminar on the preservation of food particularly fruits.... making jewelry didnt even cross his mind. But he was here and there was a question. He raised his hand and asked "Ma'am, would we be making those metal parts in jewelry... like the earrings clip-y and hook-y things or the necklace?" if there was anything that interested him... it was always the utilitarian side of things. |
Using fruits and veges to make stuff sounded fun to Jory but couldn't they have made something other than jewelry? Ah well. He raised his hand to answer the first question. "We'll definitely need to use a spell to prevent the fruit and veges from rotting,'' he said. Well after the spell wore off the they would begin to rot anyway unless the spell was casts again. |
Making jewelry from fruits? Really? Wouldn't it be kinda messy or something Ira wondered. No, probably it wouldn't be like that all.. No harm on trying! It would be fun to learn something new after all. Ira smiled and raised her hand in response to the first question> Yep! Making own jewelry did sound good. And those exhibits were really beautiful. Especially those earrings. Really beautiful! Spells needed? Um.. Ira raised her hand up and ventured a guess, "A drying spell? Or a freezing one? I mean, it would help to prevent the food juices oozing out while cutting or carving I think.." She certainly was concerned about all the mess that the juices would make, leading to sticky wet hands and desks. |
Text Cut: McFiesty Well this wasn't something they encounter everyday. Jewelry made into fruits? Kat would prefer eat them. At least they seem worth something. But well, making them into jewelry was... interesting. I guess......... Well......... I don't know. Spells. That's good enough. Kat likes spells. The blonde raised her hand, "Well, we need a possible preservation spell or a spell that would not make the fruits rot," There. She totally agreed with Lion Prefection Kurumi and the others that answered the same thing, exact or close to it. Yeah. Cool. |
