Sixteen tables are set up with two stands and burners that adjust to fit your cauldron no matter what size it may be. This is where students can practice brewing any potions they may wish to brew. Along the walls are shelves with every piece of equipment a potioneer would want, flasks, funnels, phials, stirring rods, etc... A closet nearby was filled with many items that students may find useful, extra cauldrons, extra textbooks, extra dragon hide gloves, protective goggles and protective coverobes.
On the board at the front of the room is written in white chalk:
Rules:
Clean up your own mess. I am your professor, not your mother.
Be safe. I don't want to have to explain why there is a stirrer lodged in your eye when we have plenty of protective goggles to go around. If you do not know what you are doing, stop and check your work. Please refrain from causing any explosions or fires. As I already said, I am not your mother, I will not clean up after you.
Be sure you succeed in your potion making. If you waste my ingredients I will charge your parents for them.
Do NOT, under any circumstance, test your potions on school mates... no matter which house they are from!
Do not bother me. I am a busy professor, I will come to you if I think you are experiencing problems.
ooc: THIS IS NOT A CLASS. This thread is just for roleplaying and having fun. It will remain open all term long. Please remember that even though Professor Lafay is not a very nice person, I am. Feel free to PM me with any questions and any problems that you may have. As my predecessor did, if your character is addressing the professor in this lab, please put PROFESSOR LAFAY in the subject line of your post. This will facilitate my response to you.
Was he still standing there? Really? Did he want her getting infected? She scowled up at the boy and his increasing rudeness but then Louisa got in the way and tried 'making things better'. As if. Nothing could make things better now that she saw what she did. Of all the people the disease could infect it chose her Mama Vivi. Such a terrible disease.
And just who was she calling a kid? Lex was nearly 12, that was a big number right there. Hmph! The nerve of her. Were they all trying to make her miserable?
She averted her gaze with a roll of her eyes when the two started getting all 'couple' like. Wasn't seeing Vivi enough? Now she had to stand here and watch this. Actually...no she didn't. At any moment she could just walk away and pretend they both didn't exist--okay maybe not Louisa because she still needed that cologne but it would've been easy pretending Vickers didn't exist.
Oh but the girl was finally paying attention to her again, she even told him that she needed to take her back to the castle. Hear that Vick? Louisa was gonna hang with her. He could go be by himself sulking for all she cared. He didn't even have a reason to be upset. She shot the girl an incredulous look. "I most certainly do NOT! He was the one being all stupid about things. I wasn't even talking to him when he rudely butt in." Her? Feeling bad. Not even.
The next thing the girl said was her cue to leave. "Right. See you there. DON'T take him with you." He needed to calm down for awhile before he was allowed near people again. Meanie. Then she practically stormed off.
Sometimes Louisa wished they were allowed to jinx kids. Really, this badge was nothing fancy but a stupid title and a whole load of responsibility. Because Lex was STILL being rude to Vick, it would've been easier on the Ravenclaw if the kid was rude to her. Louisa could handle anything from people at this time and age. With a roll of her eyes and a little bit too hard tug of the arm, the head girl pulled the firstie along with her casting Vickers a worried look.
This shouldn't take long anyways.
It was awkward walking down to the dungeons with a striped miniskirt and painted face, but with this energetic kid getting all serious about an imaginary disease and a made-up cure, Louisa was afraid to ask if they could go change their outfits and wash their faces. She needed a cologne. Anything that smelled, it doesn't have to be a good smell even! See the plan was going perfectly... good. So far.
To give it more credibility, Louisa needed the perfect place where adding herbs and liquids wasn't so suspicious. The potions lab! She was anxious about Lafay suddenly barging in and demanding to know what kind of potions the girls were making - and Louisa could imagine the dragon lady's scary eyes boring into her if she knew it was a 'cootie sanitary cologne'. However, it was very likely that the pregnant lady was off school grounds... the last time they saw her, she was heartbreakingly sick.
"You don't have to be rude to Vickers." Obviously the Ravenclaw was not going to let this go. "He was just..." Did she know what was he on about? Nope. "... feeling sick. You need to be more considerate when people are sick." Especially if those people were named Vickers, others were not as important to Louisa. She pushed open the door and let the girl enter. "Now, don't even think about touching anything while I collect the ingredients." She was a prankster herself once, she knew how a prankster's mind worked. "One mistake on your part, I'll let you vulnerable to that thing for the rest of your life." HAH. "Just take a seat on that stool by the table and practice apologizing to my boyfriend." Please?

She did NOT appreciate the way the girl had practically yanked her away at the stands. Hadn't she already said she was going?! There was no need to get all hands on about it. After all, she wasn't the one who butted into a conversation that no one was addressing her in and she wasn't the one acting stupid.
Lex grumbled the entire way down to the dungeons. She didn't like how Vickers ended up being the victim in all this and she certainly didn't like the attitude this girl was taking with her. All she wanted was to be protected from a life threatening disease--she didn't ask for anything else!!!
Entering the lab, she gave an almost inaudible gasp. Was this place always here? It looked so...well stocked! She wished she had found here sooner then she could've started on that potion thing with Cassia! Note to self: Come back her sometime. She turned to have a look at some of the things in the room when she heard the girl talking about Vickers. Really? Hadn't she dropped that by now? "If he was sick then he wouldn't have tried butting in where he didn't belong and sick or not he was being rude first!" No way she was gonna take all the blame. Not again.
"And why can't I touch anything--" She stopped mid-sentence because of the girl's threat. She grew silent almost immediately and took a seat on the chair like she was told to. The silence would have lasted too if the girl hadn't gone and said what she said. "Apologize?! Me?! For what?! Nooooooo! No. I won't." If anything he owed her an apology. How ruuuude.

Okay... how was she supposed to collect harmless ingredients without looking like she was randomly picking stuff up? Good thing Lafay had everything stored in vials and bottles with tags. Louisa took her wand out and started sending certain bottles to where Lex was sitting by the table. Daisy, Lavender, Boom Berry, Ice pop... Then water and some heat, she could use some of the spells to color the liquid too. One look back at the younger girl who was still fuming about Vickers, and Louisa's guilty conscious started taking her through that guilty trip.
She was practically lying to the girl. It was not really lying, it was an attempt to help her not to get terrified. Placebo effect! This wasn't a lie, maybe even Vivi would appreciate the attempt when she knows that her friendship with the girl was on the line....? Eh. Who was Louisa kidding. And not that Vivi would caaaaare, she was probably off with her celebration 'plans' by now, threatening people to break their fingers if they tried to make her laugh. Ring a bell? HMPH.
"Okay, okay." She was going to drop the go-apologize-to-vickers attitude. Lex deserved to be given some slack since Vickers scared even Louisa. "Anyways, like I said.." she headed to the table and started arranging the workspace. "That thing doesn't usually affect students your age. Your immune system is very strong at this point but with time, it's inevitable that you get a whiff of that disease." Dramatic solemn nod of the head. See she didn't need to just pour the entire truth today. "This cologne I'm going to make you? It'll make you..." smell weird. "... feel better." Again she wasn't really lying to her. Just placebo-ing. "Now would you give me the stirrer and the mortar from over there?" Louisa filled the cauldron with water.

From her seat on the stool she watched the girl looking around for what she assumed were the ingredients. This meant Lex had to be all good and wait. Bleh, not gonna work. "Are you sure you know what you're doing?" She asked. Conversation always made time fly faster. "I mean, you said it's an easy potion but...how often have you ever made it?" Then she gave the girl a piercing stare. Louisa had made this thing before...right????
She began swinging her feet idly as she watched the items float over to the table. One day she'd have to learn to do that too, it just made everything so convenient if you asked her. For now though, she would focus on staying alive. Despite the suckish attitude the girl had Lex thought she was actually pretty cool. Not many people would have offered to help her with something like this, in fact the average person would have laughed then gone on there way--but not this girl. No. She was one of the good ones that was willing to help out. It was no wonder she got to be Head Girl. Such a nice girl she was. Nod.
"So it's all about the immune system huh?' She asked, watching the girl setting up. "Then do you think taking vitamins will work too?" She was being serious here; nothing was too much when one was trying to save their life. "And even though it's 'inevitable' won't this cologne make me the exception? I have to be the exception, I just have to be!" And now she was getting all worked up again. Had to use that word? Really?
She sighed in relief after hearing it would make her feel better and quite happily handed the girl the things she'd asked for. "So what will it smell like when it's done???" Curious STARE.

Louisa was uncapping the bottles and vials of the ingredients she'd summoned from the shelves around this storeroom. "I never composed this cologne before but I'm a seventh year, I know stuff." She caught the mortar from Alexa and put some dried lavender and started crushing it with the pestle then crush crush crush DUMP into the cauldron. That went for all the herbs.
"No. Vitamins are not magic. This is magic." Nod nod. Was this charade going to end soon? Hopefully? Louisa could still feel the paint on her face. "I don't think you're going to be the exception, sorry. However, you don't have to worry about all those.." she shrugged. ".. 'gross' things, and I'm just quoting you. You'll be fine for now. It's illogical to worry and fuss over things before they happened." Ravenclaw material, folks. Hopefully, and when Lex finds out about this fake cologne, she'll still remember the true things Louisa offered.
... hopefully? ....
Once all the herbs were dumped into the cauldron she started stirring and brought her face closer to take a whiff. It was a stinging okay smell, not very good but tolerable. "It smells of cinnamon, lavender and daisies all at the same time." Err.. "I don't think the smell will stick for so long though." Louisa added a few potions spells to make the ingredients dissolve into each other. She summoned a vial and poured some of the slightly yellowish liquid inside. Now she needed something like a sprayer to close the vial. For that she moved away from the table and started looking for anything spray-like.

With a bag full of supplies and ingredients in her hand, Sierra Greingoth made her way into the Potions lab. She was bound and determined to finally brew and bottle that potion she'd been working on since her first year.
She approached a work table, paying no mind to the others in the room, and placed her cauldron on a burner. She'd clean it first. Of course she would, or she'd be in a whole heap of trouble. With a wave of her wand, she said, "Scourgify," and gave her equipment a good cleaning.
After that, she pointed her wand toward the burner and said, "Incendio!" A fire lit on the burner. Finally, she flicked her wand inside the cauldron and said, "Aguamenti!" Her cauldron filled with water until it'd reached 500mL of water.

"You're joking right?" There was no way she could be serious right now. In all her seven years here she had never made the potion that she claimed was so easy???? No surprize there seeing as she had the disease now. "So then you don't actually know what you're doing?! You couldn't; not seeing as you're INFECTED too!" Yeah, explain that Head Girl. "If you knew how to make this then wouldn't you have saved yourself from something this terrible??" She was soooo not buying into the whole 'older so I know better thing'. Nope. Half the time older kids didn't have a brain--which she had proven from the train ride here and even from the platform.
She was not amused. -_______-
Lex watched her dumping the ingredients but now she wasn't so sure whether or not this could be trusted. For all she knew the girl was probably just dumping in some random ingredients!!! "Whoa, don't pour so fast, are you sure that's the right amount?" No, being a Ravenclaw didn't make her any smarter in Lex's eyes. If she was smart she would have avoided the disease like the plague.
She became temporarily distracted when the girl told her vitamins wouldn't work and she wouldn't be the only exception. This cologne was seeming even more shifty. "But you said it would work! If it works then won't I be the exception to that whole everyone getting infected thing???" Then she gave her a suspicious look. [b]"I'm trying not to worry but you're not sounding very convincing right now. With this cologne will I have to worry about getting infected or not?
Now that she was on high alert she discarded everything the girl said about the smell. What good was the smell if the thing didn't work? STARE.

Hecate looked up from her desk and saw the three students working. "You have one more hour to finish your work and then I'm closing the lab." She said.
After the hour was up, Hecate dismissed the students and locked up the potions lab.
