As you make your way into the History of magic classroom you notice that thankfully it appears quite normal. The desks are set in the usual order of twos, with nothing at all on top.
The windows are closed thanks to the light rain that continues to fall outside. Up front Professor Scabior is leaning against his desk, and gazing out the window, appearing to be slightly distracted as he does not even notice you enter. Nevertheless, pick your desk and grab a seat, class will begin shortly.
OOC: Class has started so, act like you've been here the whole time if you wish to join! Class will begin soon. Please familiarize yourself with the updated classroom rules. Your characters can chat, dance, try to set the room on fire. Just remember Scabior is there, and SS and RPG rules apply.

Which was exactly why students in separate houses could not visit each other.
"As for the prefects bathroom like Miss Bishop stated, become a Prefect is something that is earned. So restricting what they have to other students simply makes sense." The other students didn't earn anything. The prefects did.
"Most of other places in the castle where passwords are simply deterrents, and thank you Miss Odessa for pointing that out. If we truly wanted to safeguard an area it would be charmed as well as include something else just in the case of someone breaking the charm.' He nodded and then cleared his throat. Scabior language for: get ready to write some stuff down.
"So the idea of passwords instead of using charms on many things was introduced to the castle in the 12th century after many of the charms happened to backfire letting people into areas they shouldn't but mostly restricting more people than they should. The Charms Professor at the time, Petey Pride decided that perhaps giving the students the incantations to reomove the charm and then place it back would work. This lasted for a few weeks at most because in areas such as Common Rooms, younger students did not quite have a grasp on the complicated aspect of the charms that had to be used and so often had to wait outside for hours until an older student let them in." It was to say the least, extremely flawed. "Pride continously insisted that charms be used for everything, until another professor Surles Cavendish brought forth the idea of passwords. Pride was intimately against the use of passwords and gave the Headmaster an ultimatum, use charms or he would walk out of the job. Suffice it to say, he was replaced pretty quickly."
Poor Petey. Not so much though. Scabior stopped for a bit, letting anything sink in in case they wanted to ask any questions.
"After he left a list was drafted of all the places that would have passwords and all the places in the castle that would have charms, dubbed the Hogwarts Security Act. The act has since been lost, but the majority of password protected areas are known." Which was obvious enough since they all knew so many. With ALLL that being said, "Are there any places in the castle that do not currently have passwords that you believe need or should have one?
Hmm. In case of emergencies. In a place like Hogwarts? Imagine that? Heh. Sierra did sit up a little taller and prouder as the prefects bathroom was brought up. Pride. She had it. Nobody called her Slytherin for nothing, after all. Sierra then smirked at the story of Professor Pride. What an idiot. Nobody gives an ultimatum like that unless they have power, and this guy sounded like he had none.
When the story was over and another question was brought up, Sierra raised her hand. "What about the locker rooms? Each common room has one, so it'd make sense for the individual locker rooms to be protected, as well," she said. Sierra cared more about her precious Quidditch strategies being stolen and less about who saw how she folded her bedsheets in the morning.
Whaooo that was a lot of stuff to write down! Louisa's hand was stiffy when Scabior was finished. It was probably the only class she wrote this many notes in so short time. She'd rather have the puzzle maze. Flexing her hand and rotating her wrist, maybe exaggerating just a little. She had no more suggestions, originally she was going to suggest the Restricted Section in the library. She did hold a protest last term about it being closed at all times and almost too impossible to walk into but that was already suggested by the undesirable. Then her mind went for the barn with the creatures which was also suggested by the girl with the gummy worms at all times. Then she thought about what Vivi said and found it pretty convincing so she nodded her head at that.
So she just kept quiet and crossed her arms, stretched her legs under and waited for the next question.

"No it doesn't." Scabior said shaking his head. He had clearly stated that a few moments ago. "Perhaps it would."

Oh yeah.
After listening with a tight expression though ALL those words that Scabior just spoke, Theo almost forgot to listen to the next question. It was all good, though, he heard it. Though, he did pause at first. Whilst one side of his brain said that every room needed a password, his social side was saying BAAAAAAAAAD IDEA.
"I would like to have my own separate bedroom with a password on it." Or a lock. Theodore was into personal space, if you hadn't already guessed. As for other places, there wasn't much else he could think of.
"But I realize that could be a stretch." Another shrug.
Security he said. That wasn't the real reason. The real reason was that the kid whatever and as much as he could get for himself. Both of his answers proved it.
And Dash approved.
"Good idea."

Thankfully he stopped, giving her a chance to catch up with everything. Her hands only went so fast you know!
Right and onto his question now--
Whaaaat? O____O
How could he possibly think there were more places that could use a good password?! Wasn't she being restricted enough?! Her hand flew up immediately. "Professor I think this place is pretty well locked up; it doesn't need anymore passwords." Merlin, how did anyone expect her to go exploring when everything was out of reach. Couldn't they just try to be a bit more considerate? Jeesh. "Everything's fine just the way it is." Correction; it needed to be a bit more open, but she wouldn't say that.
And did Theo really say he needed his own bedroom?? Dangit, and here she thought she was demanding.
Oh!
"Unless of course you think somewhere else needs locking off." Somewhere you wanted to share with the class? Hmm?
"No. I have nothing in mind." He answered flatly. Though if she thought there were enough passwords that was a valid point.

Was this a trick? Meep. She shrugged and gave the man a small smile.
As for places in the castle that might need to be password protected that aren't already, Ella shrugged. Hmmm... "Professor, perhaps the places where the magical creatures are kept could use passwords? That would ensure the safety of both the students and the animals." Seemed like a good idea, especially given the fact that several animals had been killed/disappeared this term. Oh! And that skrewt that had attacked first term! Meep.

Being a prefect does not come easy.
Then she heard the professor ask another question. What places that do not have passwords, should have one. Belle heard Ella's suggestion. Take care of the animals from the students. "Professor i agree with Ella's suggestion. We should have a password for creature cages. So the creatures can not harm the students and the other way around. The broom shed is a logical one too." Belle loved her classmates suggestions.
"That depends. You would have to figure out who would be allowed to see the creatures then and who wouldn't." Not EVERYONE could know the password, remember.

Other places in the castle that should have passwords? "The broomshed? To keep students from stealing the brooms."
"That's true. Though I think secretly Vindictus loves when you lot take his brooms." Small smirk. Oops? Nah.

No. He did not.

Anyway onto the next question. Up goes the hand "The Armory Professor. It may just function more as a gallery now, but there are still weapons in there, and given that many of those also have historical value shouldnt that room have a password too?"

"Uhmm," Kat said. She obviously needed some time to think at first. She really agreed with West's sister, Aspen, about the Restricted Section in the Library. "I think the dormitories between the girls and boys need some password." Even though there were already charms to prevent this. But more security for safety measures, that was Kat's initial thought. Her answer, though, was a bit similar to West's, she noticed. Oh, child.
"They could be a benefit there." Maybe. But the charms already worked well so why mess with what wasn't broken?

Anyways, Zoey finally caught he last question and decided she should have a go on it. She tried to think hard of all the places at Hogwarts. Where does she want to have passwords on??
"Well Professor, I don't think we should have anymore additional passwords. I mean, the passwords to the common rooms and prefects bathrooms are fine. But I don't think we should have it anywhere else." Zoey replied. "First of all, it would be rather hard for everyone to remember all the passwords. I can barely remember what I had for lunch today. Also, I think setting more passwords make us feel more trapped and less free. It just doesn't seem like a school anymore. School rules are made to break so that we'll learn from our rule-breakings."
"School rules are made to follow so you don't make mistakes because you are smart enough to follow. That is what you meant surely." Scabior corrected. Yes. That was what she meant. "But you do make good points."

The thing about the restricted section in the library would come in pretty handy as well.
What else should have a password though? She didn't want to repeat any of the other answers. "Maybe a password on the kitchen so you couldn't sneak food." Now she personally didn't agree with this, but it made sense.
"There is a password on the kitchen." Were people even listening?

The sky was clearing up. It was something to be noticed. It was very important to knowing about passwords.....or not....so although he was was concentrated on his lesson he still stole glances outside.
"The majority of you gave examples of places you think should have passwords. Others believe that Hogwarts have enough as it is. Since it's clearing up outside-" He looked out the window again. "-I'll let you guys out early. But for your homework I want you all to continue with what you think so far." Reaching for his wand, he tapped it on the board making the homework appear.
Homework:
Option A: Choose an area in the castle that you believe needs a password and explain why based on what you believe Surles Cavendish would say. After state what kind of password you would use (verbal, written, another language, funny dance ect) and again, why. Remember, previous Headmasters like Dumbledore often followed a certain theme, changing his passwords frequently, yet all had to do with candy.
Option B: For those of you who think Hogwarts doesn't need any more passwords I want you to give an example of one area that has a password that you would eliminate and why. Explain if you would replace this area with a charm (if yes, what charm) or not based on what you believe Petey Pride would say.
Bonus for both: Include a diagram/picture.
Due: November 27th 11:59pm EST
"So...." Scabior shrugged. "You are dismissed."

Minerva listened to everyone and their answers. Some were good points, but then others she felt that would just ruin some fun if there were passwords. Then Scabiors was talking about outside again. Really.. He was a bit distracted wasn't he, but he was going to let them out early.. SCORE... Minerva wrote down the homework on her parchment and gathered her things. "Thanks for the lesson professor, enjoy the day." Then she looked around to make sure she didn't leave anything at her seat. Nope, she was good, so she turned and headed out of the room. Yes she was going to go enjoy some sun..

Wait....what?! He was letting them out early because it had cleared up? That was... extremely nice, actually. Ella BEAMED at the man and then quickly looked away, unsure if Professor Scabior was the kind of Professor who would appreciate a BEAM.
The third year quickly turned her BEAM to Theodore, who must have been excited and a bit confused too, yeah? She then scribbled down her homework and gathered her things, standing and placing her bag over her shoulder. "Want to walk back with me, Theo?" She asked her partner in crime fighting, motioning her head towards the door. She didn't bother waiting for an answer and headed towards the exit slowly.
"Bye Professor, Thanks for the lesson and erm...letting us out early." Cause yeah, that was pretty sweet.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
Mmm.
The Professor was clearly going to be keeping all his knowledge. If it wasn't for the unpredictable nature of the man she might have rolled her eyes. Wouldn't he share anything? Not everything was meant to be kept a secret after all and besides...did he expect her to go looking just because she was told not to? Granted she would but he shouldn't have suspected!
Oh?
He was letting them out early? GRIN.
Without wasting another minute Lex grabbed her bag and shot up. "Great class Professor!" Not really, but the whole leaving early thing was!! "Enjoy your day." Then she left. No need to stick around. Yeah this was her last class of the school's year but that was like a good thing so...

Vickers paused for a moment, pondering the Historian's follow up question. "Well Professor, unless those weapons are duds and they are proven to be absolutely useless it would always be prudent to secure the location where they are held. If students are free to view it for educational purposes it shouldnt be a problem for them to be given the password as when needed, but at least that would prove to be a kind of security measure just to keep anybody from just walking in and doing as he or she pleases."

And that was their cue to go. Vickers quickly copied down their homework, collected his things into his book bag and stood to make his way towards the door "Thanks for the lessons Professor. Its been really good knowing you." he said with a respectable nod and a small smile.

Oh wow. Same as Runes. ANOTHER FAST-GOING LESSON. Indeed the professors were in a hurry, which was not nice. Kat did not want the term to end yet. The thought of leaving Hogwarts was heartbreaking. And she's had so many friends this term too so she didn't want to leave them either. Ugh, Professors were soooo... oblivious to student feels.
SHRUG. "Thanks for the lesson, Professor Scabior," Kat said. But... she didn't want to leave yet. Why? She was sitting beside West Odessa, that's why. Her feelings were strong it is unexplainable already. Forcing herself to leave, Kat stood up almost hesitantly and tried her best to walk with her bag on her shoulder.
Heh, she looked like a limp.

Scribble scribble scribble...
It was kind of an interesting class, the previous one was more exciting, but maybe that was why Scabior chose to slow things down. Oh. Wait.. slow things down that much? Class was dismissed? Louisa didn't believe it was the case until the man appointed them homework.
So this was it? Her last History of Magic class? It suddenly didn't feel as happy and promising as it did when she woke up this morning. Either way Louisa started packing her stuff and maaaaaaybe taking more than usual in doing so. She mounted her backpack and then walked after Vickers to the professor.
Once Vick slipped out the door, she stared at Scabior. "Goodbye, professor." And thanks for taking 25 points from her throughout those three terms or so. NOT. But her mouth curved at one end forming a small smile, he was still going to get something at the end of this term.
Belle was quite surprised that they were let out early, but they had a mission to complete. Belle scribbled down her homework onto parchment. Belle was quite sad that this was their last History of Magic lesson. It did not seem like it at all. Term was going to end soon. Belle was still in denial.
As Belle packed up her books and got everything together, Belle smiled to the professor and said, "Goodbye Professor, thanks for the lesson." Belle was leaving her last lesson of the semester. It was quite sad but it was bittersweet.
Sarah thought about which places whould have passwords and she could not think of one. Ease of access was great in her opinion.

And with that...History of Magic at Hogwarts came to a close. Slowly, Kurumi closed her textbook and began to slowly pack up her things and reflected for a moment. She had had several professors teach the subject while at Hogwarts and, as much as it pained her to admit, Professor Scabior was the one she had learned the most from. Not to mention found his lessons more practical - even if she didn't agree with his methods all the time.
Once people began to filter out, Kurumi hung back for a moment and thought over how to leave the classroom. Meaning how to offer the man one final 'thanks for the lesson' and not physically how to leave.
Stepping up to the man, Kurumi bowed her head. "Thank you for the past few years, professor," she said softly. She knew what came next would earn her either a verbal sarcastic comment, or him glaring at her, or an arrange of many things. "For what it's worth, professor. You have taught me the most out of all the History of Magic professors I've had at Hogwarts." She meant it too. Honestly. Even if she still was pretty sure the man had something against her. "So, really, thank you." And yeah, she would miss his lessons, but she wasn't going to let herself get that carried away.
She gave him one last bow and then turned around to make her way out of the classroom...one last time.

Sierra followed the professor's gaze to the outside world. What was he looking at anyway? She still wasn't sure, but...maybe he just would rather be outside. Sierra didn't blame him. She'd rather be on the pitch. Then her questions were answered as Scabior decided to release them early. Sierra was already putting her materials back into her bag as he continued to speak.
Oh, wait...homework? She better write this down. She did so quickly and then turned back to packing her belongings. When everything was in her bag, Sierra hoisted her bag over her shoulder then stood from her desk. "Bye, Professor," she said. "Have a good day." Yes, the Slytherin girl was in a good mood. Why? Well, who didn't love getting out early? Even if it was with homework being assigned...

"Thanks for the lesson professor, enjoy the day." Then she looked around to make sure she didn't leave anything at her seat. Nope, she was good, so she turned and headed out of the room. Yes she was going to go enjoy some sun..

Also, did Scabior just call him Theo?
Weird. Lesson over. Weird, too. "Bye, professor." He pulled on his stuff, smiled at Ella as he got up, then lingered by the door to wait for West.

As Belle packed up her books and got everything together, Belle smiled to the professor and said, "Goodbye Professor, thanks for the lesson." Belle was leaving her last lesson of the semester. It was quite sad but it was bittersweet.

Sarah wrote down the homework, this was all very interesting to her. "Thank you for the lesson professor" she said. She was now going to use all the portrit shortcuts on the way back to the common room, fully appreciating knowing the passwords.
She was alreading brimming with ideas for the password.
Several 'goodbyes' and 'your welcomes' were given as the students left the room.
Everyone was so much more pleasant when class ended early.
Next term he'd make his lesson go on for five hours, just to make some of them suffer.

And that was their cue to go. Vickers quickly copied down their homework, collected his things into his book bag and stood to make his way towards the door "Thanks for the lessons Professor. Its been really good knowing you." he said with a respectable nod and a small smile.
Scabior blinked a few times about ready to ask the boy what he was going on about, but then it hit him. Of course the Ravenclaw would be leaving the school in just a few days. Ah. Strange...
"You're welcome." Scabior answered with a sincere nod. "It's been a pleasure teaching you Mister Vanderbilt." Which...it had. He liked Vickers, and although he did not have favourites so to speak....if he did...the kid would be one of his favourites. "I wish you the best in whatever field you go into." Another nod.

"Goodbye." Another seventh year gone.

This one was not a student he would miss. Scabior had known from day one that he did not HATE Hollingberry. He just disliked her general 'knowledge' and ability to recite the textbook. She had gotten better over the years however. Or maybe she just learned how to keep quiet. Either way, she was better. "It's my job." He said simply.
What she said next though....that was....that was something.....
Hadn't Lainey taught her as well?
"You are welcome." Scabior said with a nod, not really knowing...what else to say. But at the very last moment he spoke up again. "Things are going to be different when you leave Hogwarts. And textbooks and manuals aren't going to help. They were written by people probably not as smart as you. So think. Don't recite." That was what he wanted to say. Yes. He nodded once more and began packing up.
