HoM Lesson Three As you make your way into the History of magic classroom you notice that thankfully it appears quite normal. The desks are set in the usual order of twos, with nothing at all on top. The windows are closed thanks to the light rain that continues to fall outside. Up front Professor Scabior is leaning against his desk, and gazing out the window, appearing to be slightly distracted as he does not even notice you enter. Nevertheless, pick your desk and grab a seat, class will begin shortly. Class Progression: OOC: Class has started so, act like you've been here the whole time if you wish to join! |
Making her way into the History of Magic classroom, Emmanuelle barely noticed that the room actually looked normal this time. Nope, she was to tired from not being able to sleep very well in her sleeping bag bed and beginning to study for her NEWTS. So she shuffled into class and found a seat, banging her leg on said seat in the process. "Ow!" she exclaimed, rubbing her leg. She was sure to have a bruise. "Hello, professor," she greeted tiredly. |
It was rainy outside. And... anytime it was rainy, Anya just wanted to take a nap. Which, wasn't a good attitude, considering she lived in Surrey. It rained there a lot. "Hello Professor." she said in her best imitation of an upbeat attitude. She hoped it worked, she was a bit too tired to check on the Professor's reaction though. She then took a look around the room. It was normal. Weird. She was used to nothing being normal in this class. In fact... the last normal lesson she had she ended up freezing up. Heh. And with those thoughts in mind, she took a seat at one of the desks toward the center of the room. |
Cautiously peering into the History classroom, Milton was glad to see that it looked normal. Hopefully it would stay that way. Once he realized the classroom was normal, Milton made his way inside. And since Scabior looked like he wasn't paying attention, Milton just ignored him and looked for a seat. Spotting his favorite Gryffindor, Milton weaved through the seats and sat down next to her, carelessly dropping his bag onto the floor. "Hey," he said with a small smile and leaned back in his chair. |
Entering the room, Kurumi was glad for two things. One that it was back to normal and not creepy looking and two that Professor Scabior was in the room. Woah. She was actually glad to see the man? Well, to be fair he was a good History of Magic professor. Didn't throw parties every lesson and kept topics interesting, so she was glad for that. And now it was her final lesson with him. Weird. Kurumi swiftly approached her usual desk and set her things out before taking her seat. She gave a polite nod towards the man, but he seemed distracted by other things at the moment. |
One careful poke of the head through the door, followed by a tentative step forward.... such was the way this Ravenclaw entered the class, having remembered quite clearly how the last one turned out. Everything looked normal so perhaps this will just be a regular lecture right? "Good day Professor Scabbior" he greeted the man as distractedly as he was gazing out the window and settled into a seat, lining his lecture taking materials neatly across his desk. |
Theo made real effort to get to this lesson on time, not JUST cos Professor Scabior was scary, but cos he liked History of Magic. He found a desk in the middle of the room, and waited for Ella to arrive. Hopefully she'd sit with HIM instead of Harvey today, cos Elladore have history together. Geddit? History. History of Magic. ;-) Anyway.. "Hello, Professor Scabior." Theo said quietly, although the man didn't appear to notice. That was fine by him. Once he was sat, he looked out of the same window that Scabior was looking out of. Oh, rain. That sucks. |
Jory looked cautiously around the classroom. Back to normal. Good. He also noticed Professor Scabior there. "Good day, Professor,'' the Puff said but he seemed so distracted it didn't seem to have heard Jory. Or any other student. He went off to get a seat and wait for the lesson to begin. |
Last history class. Louisa couldn't believe it. It was both a happy thought and a sad one, like everything about Hogwarts these days. Although she had very little time reminiscing about the good ole days and saying good byes to certain people and places. Maybe when the common rooms are accessible to them and the mysteries unfold, she'd have more time on her hands. With that thought the Ravenclaw walked into the classroom, she couldn't help but follow the professor's gaze out the window before greeting him, a bit too loudly. "Hello professor Scabior!" She continued with a wide smile to claim one of the desk in the front, next to Vickers. "Hey.." she poked his arm gently with the smile still plastered on her face. |
Kat entered HoM class. It was the class one for the term but she was kinda happy. She wasn't so good with HoM. But one thing's for sure, Kat did her best this term to actually be good enough in History. It's the effort that counted, despite how stupid you are about it. With much self-esteem, Kat smiled at Professor Scabior. "Hello, Professor." Then Kat went to find a seat and settle her bag. It was so heavy, mind you. She actually looked like a traveler lost. Weiiiiiiiiird. |
Minerva walked into the room cautiously. She was being so jumpy after the other night. Glancing around every so often it was just so hard to concentrate at the moment. Taking a very deep breath she made her way fully into the class. Trying to smile the best she could she greeted Scabiors, "Hello Professor, hope you are well today.." and stay well and fully here. She finished in her head. As she took her seat still cautiously remembering the last lesson they had. Would he make them do that again. She hoped not. Sitting down she pulled her parchment out and started biting at her nails in a nervous way. She wasn't being able to calm her nerves from the different things going on all term. |
History of magic. It was starting to become one of Nate's favorite subjects. Once he walked into the room he was suprised to see that everything looked normal, like it did in the beggining of the year...without any trains though. So basically it looked like last year's room. Except the time when they went inside the Chamber of Secrets, which was epic. Thouhg the only thing they did in there was a scavenger hunt...lame. Nate out grew scaveneger hunts this year. Last year he loved them...this year he dispised them. So while walking into the classroom he noticed Scabior staring out of the window. So Nate just simply said "Good day Professor Scabior." After that he found a seat that was not by anybody elseas of now. He needed some time to think about the common room mess, so he didn't want to be by the loudness of all the other people. |
and Theo :) Rainy days made it extremely hard for Ella to get out of bed. The gloom made her want to cuddle all day under the covers though being in the great hall didn't exactly allow for such things. So here she was, walking into the History of Magic classroom and looking for Theoman. They'd sit together, yeah? Fellow Professor Scabior seemed a bit distracted and Ella followed his gaze out the window, wondering what was up. Not that she was going to pick the man's brain or anything. Sheesh. That was a silly idea. "Hello Professor." She greeted quietly, not knowing if he'd even heard her. Hopefully he wasn't plotting things. Oh! There was Theoman right in the middle of the room. Ella smiled and took the seat next to him, putting her her parchment and quill before turnring to give him a smile. "Hi Theo." Beam. No blowing things up today, okay? |
Alexa walked into the classroom rather cautiously. She figured that if the room looked anything like it did last time then she would simply walk out. There was no way she was gonna allow herself to be stuck to a wall again so that bloody poltergeist could have another chance at taking her wand. After seeing the somewhat normalcy of the room she entered. Hello Professor." She was still holding the whole losing her wand thing against him. How on earth was someone suppose to knock for help when they couldn't get off the wall in the first place. He needed to think about 11 year olds more often. She then took her seat and waited for him to say something. Did he even know they were there...? |

"Ready to learn?" Or... whatever they did in these lessons. |
There was not anything interesting outside, no Scabior was just distracted, so distracted that he hadn't even heard the greetings of the students. Turning his head finally to the class he blinked. When had all of them gotten here? Weren't they early? Glancing over at the clock his brows came together. No...they were right on time. Huh. "...Good morning." Scabior said faintly to the whole class as he rubbed the side of his chin. They could have all yelled out a great big hello and he would have not noticed. "Today's lesson is about....well....what can you lot tell me about passwords?" OOC: Class has started so, act like you've been here the whole time if you wish to join! And I'd encourage you to! |

She shuffled a bit in her seat, trying to get a bit more comfortable before she attempted to answer his very uh...direct question. Slowly she raised her hand."Well they're usually super secretive and they're used to keep people out of things or places..." That was basically it wasn't it? "Professor Scabior...are you ill?" She had to be sure. When people started acting weird it was time to prepare a defense strategy and an escape route; both of which she never thought she'd need in this of all classes. |

Ethan glanced up to the front of the room as Scabior started class. The man looked.. distracted. Not that the fifth year could blame him really.. recent events left the boy edgy and on guard himself. Thinking over the question and listening as a few provided answers, Ethan raised his hand to provide his own take. "Passwords are usually secret words that give access to something for only those who are privy to that information." Ehh.. that was a bit wordy.. Ethan was sure he could have been more concise, but certainly Scabior knew what he meant. |
Biting down on her lower lip, Kurumi couldn't help but wonder what it was that had Professor Scabior so distracted. Maybe he was thinking about a certain former Charms professor? Hmm? She had heard from her father about them being together. Not that she would bring attention to this right now. Or ever. She valued her life. When they were asked about passwords, Kurumi paused for a moment before raising her hand to speak. "They have also been called watchwords by ancient peoples and are essential something that is used to protect something from something else. Often times encryption is used and one of the earliest forms of this sort of system is the Scytale." |
was about to post Sarah arriving when you posted, luckily I refreashed in time Sarah was rather disappointed that the lesson was not like last time. She had loved the riddles. She had done well. Quote:

It was beyond disappointing that her loud greeting went unnoticed. Hmph. She slouched a bit on her chair and waited for everyone to file in the class, she smiled here and there at those she knew but generally she kept silent waiting for the professor to start. And soon enough, history of magic commenced. Passwords. She raised her hand and started, "They're usually there to protect something very valuable or very secretive." Like jewels or important files and papers. "And sometimes they're there to protect a place, like the case with the common rooms." And prefect's bathroom. |

"A password can be a secret word, phrase, or sentence that can help a person gain access or entry to one thing or place," Kat answered. "The Common Rooms require a password to obtain access." Well, it was that simple. It wasn't anything to be hard on about. |
Well, that was odd. Professor Scabior seemed distracted by something.... But Emmanuelle was just too tired to put anymore thought to it beyond noticing just how strange it was. Besides, he was the professor and if it was something personal, well it was really none of their business, now was it? Anyway, she forced her mind to focus on the lesson. Which, apparently about passwords. "They can be used to keep people out of any number of things from private computers to our very own Common Rooms. Usually they are used on things that hold very personal or classified information or to protect people." Yep. Very enlightening, that one. |
Ella looked at Professor Scabior and frowned a little, concerned. He looked like he was under some serious stress and Ella couldn't help but think it was all his scariness coming back to bite him. Seriously. If he smiled more he'd probably be in a much better state right now. Happy people were just...well happier...and maybe even healthier too. Hm. Passwords? What did Ella know about passwords? Well most of what she knew had already been said but she figured it was better to answer than not so she raised her hand. "Professor, passwords are used to keep things protected and accessible to only a certain person or group of people." Yes, like the common rooms... |
