Slytherin VS Gryffindor

The snow is finally starting to melt away as the temperatures creep upwards to more comfortable numbers. With the snow saying good bye nature is preparing itself to welcome spring flowers. The weather is now unpredictable and the need for carrying an umbrella everywhere you go is advisable since showers can come instantly and be rich.

Pulling off his raincoat Mr Kitridge dried his clothes whilst the red and green clad students milled into the Gobstones building for the fifth match of the year. When a good number had arrived Mr Kitridge walked out into the centre of the playing field and spoke as much to the players as the audience. "Good morning everyone and welcome to the fifth match of the Gobstones Club season between the Snakes of Slytherin and Lions of Gryffindor." He gestured briefly towards each team in turn.

"Well into the season I expect you all to have read and taken the new gobstones game rules to heart. Cheating or horse-play won't be tolerated so don't try it. Good luck!"

Mr Kitridge waited a few minutes to let more student's for the playing teams show up. Satisfied with the turnout he handed the stone bags to their respective teams to allow them to get into tossing position. Raising his hand he signaled to go ahead to roll!

In the first roll of the match 7th year prefect, Kurumi Hollingberry decided to try her luck against 2nd year snake West Odessa. The boy had in previous matches for his house showed quick hand reflexes and steady aim. The stones left the players and picked up speed as the stone roll down the court. As it happened, luck wasn't with the young snake in the first roll since the red stone rolled down the course like on the wings of the firebolt where his green stone rolled in snail pace before it stopped very far from the Jack stone. The red stone had by then inched up next to the Jack stone. Gryffindor wins the first points of the match!

In the next toss of the match it was reverse roles. Now West's green stone outrolled Kurumi's red stone. The red rolled off the court and landed in the unsuspecting lap of a professor in the audience whereas the green rolled in a steady pace towards the Jack stone and stopped next to it almost like old buddies. Slytherin wins the points!

Subject: Flying
Level: Difficult (3 points)

This verse of an eleventh-century Gaelic poem refers to what ancient broom game:

The players assembled, twelve fine, hearty men,
They strapped on their cauldrons, stood poised to fly,
At the sound of the horn they were swiftly airborne
But ten of their number were fated to die.

Kurumi remained in tossing position while the snakes tossed in fourth year Katrina Hudson to give the stones a go. Unfortunetley for the snakette the lions was quicker in tossing her stone so the red got a head start on the green which it kept all the way up to the Jack stone no matter how hard the green stone tried to catch up. Gryffindor wins the points!
