FINAL EXAM PRACTICAL:
Broom Games

When
Tuesday, 27 November @ 8pm EST* through Friday, 30 November @ 11:30pm EST

Where
The Practice Pitch

What to Bring
Nerves of Steel

*Vindictus will officially begin the final at the posted time. Please keep your chatter to a minimum. If it gets too crazy (like 3 pages crazy), a moderator will close the thread until I arrive home from work.

The Practice Pitch looked rather odd on this late Spring day. The grass was a vibrant green and the sand in the scoring area sparkled in the sun, but something was definitely missing.

The broom rack was located near the midfield of the stadium with a sign attached saying "Take a School Broom. Your esteemed professor nor the school will take any responsibility for the loss or damage of personal property during the course of this Flying Final Exam."

Near the broom rack was a purple tarp covering something lumpy. Attached to it was a sign that read "Daring to peek beneath this tarp will result in the loss of 50 House Points, not to mention your physical well-being being harmed by your fellow house mates who will turn you into goo."

Looking down on everyone from the stands, was Professor Vindictus. On either side of him, the stands themselves appeared to ripple in the light breeze. Something was definitely about to happen....

we'll say this is... before Milton gets attacked by the plant?

Hum dee dumm... Lovely day, wasn't it? Milton sauntered onto the pitch and made his way to the broom rack. He narrowed his eyes at the sign. 'Your esteemed professor nor the school will take any responsibility for the loss or damage of personal property during the course of this Flying Final Exam...' Huh. In that case... Milton picked around and found the best looking broom even though it might get destroyed in whatever they were doing for the final.

Once he had his broom, he walked over to the purple tarp and read the note... And since he didn't want to turn into purple goo or lose housepoints, Milton backed away carefully and looked around for Vindictus. He eventually spotted him up in the stands.

Well. This was all very... interesting.

Steelsheen 11-27-2012 06:20 AM

Nerves of steel.... that was the Professor's idea of a joke right?

It was the finals, whether this Ravenclaw had nerves of steel or spaghetti he has to show up, otherwise he wouldnt graduate. And that would do more damage to him than a truck full of bludgers going after him at the same time.

Wincing a bit Vickers neared the broom rack and took hold of a broom, wincing about at the odd way the pitch looks and feels. He found himself standing next to the Ravenclaw Captain "Hey Milton."

Yourenodaisy 11-27-2012 07:18 AM

Ugh, flying. This would not end well. There were no nerves of steel for this Hufflepuff. Not even nerves of balsa wood or Styrofoam. All the way down to the pitch, Emmaleigh kept straining to look a head and behind trying to see if a certain Ravenclaw was around. She needed him.

As she walked onto the pitch Emmaleigh both grimaced ad blushed at the memory of her last visit here. She had walked away with about a hundred cuts and burses, and with out her towel because it had been wrapped around Max’s waist. It felt different out here too. Something was off, she could feel it. She had been out here several times during the term. Though maybe it was just bad fwoopper memories making her feel that way. Seeing the town ‘claw, Em forced her self not to sound too nervous. “Hey Vickers, Milton.” Turning to the older boy, the girl asked, “Have you seen Max?” She glanced to the brooms, but didn’t walk over to them. She wanted Max to pick out a good one, though none of them would feel as safe as Max’s broom.

Kurumi knew from the moment she had read 'nerves of steal' that this was going to be nothing short of a nightmare for her. In fact, she had half a mind to turn around and march riiiiiiiiiiight back up to the castle and hide herself in the kitchens to avoid this final...but the promise she had made Selina about finishing out Flying practically had her robes nailed to the pitch. She wasn't about to break a promise to her best friend even if they both knew that she was a disaster on a broom these days.

Her violet eyes glazed over the signs and each word made her feel even more apprehensive about this final. Grabbing a school broom at random, Kurumi walked over to where everyone else was and...where was Professor Vindictus? Glancing around for a few seconds, she eventually spotted him in the stands. Well, that was even more alarming. It was like he was a Cesar just sitting up high watching all his little gladiators battle it out.

.....morbid.....

Well...now how was she supposed to give the man his cookies?

And it wasn't that she was ignoring everyone there - with the nongreeting - the Gryffindor was just gripping her broom so tightly that her knuckles were turning white and she was a little toooooo freaked out about what could possibly go on this final.

Laura had been looking forward to this lesson, she went and grabbed a broom and then she looked around the Professor didn't seemed to be anywhere around, she was searching for a few minutes when she suddenly spotted him at the stands.

Laura then read the sign and she nearly just ran away, what was they going to do if the Professor or school wouldn't accept responsibilty for anything that went wrong, this was really scary, she thought it might be a bit fun though.

Minerva walked out on the pitch. Last flying class of term, but something seemed off. Looking up she saw the professor in the stands, but were the stands moving? She had to be seeing something wrong. Smiling at the group that had already formed and retrieved a school broom to get ready for when class began.

Looking around she saw something covered up and a note. As soon as she saw 50 points taken off Minerva hurried to be as far away from it as possible. No need to get any points taken this late in the game. No.. no she wouldn't be doing that. Wanting to get up in the air Minerva looked back to the stands for instructions.

The next class / final would be Flying class. The class, as usual, was held at the Pitch as every other Flying class was. Kat walked pass the grass and watched as the flowers bloomed. It was Spring and sooner, it would be Summer. Her birthday's coming near, which excited the Slytherin even more. When she reached the group of students that was there, Kat took a seat somewhere a bit far from them. Yes, she needed concentration thank you very much.

Now... Vindictus wasn't there yet so the Slytherin got a broom from the Broom Stack or whatever it was and then retreated back. No personal brooms were supposed to be used today, which was obviously a heartbreaker. But no choices... Kat couldn't do anything. Sad.

Yes, Flying Final!

Pao was stoked for this. He practically ran down to the pitch in his excitement. Upon arrival, he took in the odd appearance of the field. Something was... off. He couldn't put his finger on it, though..

Reading the signs, he took a school broom from the rack. Then he sidled as far away from that tarp as was possible without leaving the group of students huddled there waiting.

DaniDiNardo 11-27-2012 07:38 PM

YESSSSS!!!

Finally!! Back on the pitch for flying. Lex bolted over to the others as they stood on the pitch and she was in such a good mood that she gave each of them a beam. Such a nice day wasn't it? What with the whole, NOT being in the broom shed READING and learning. The last class was a disaster but she had confidence that this one had to more than make up for it, half because of what the professor had said before dismissing them last time and half because of the neat note that promised certain danger.

It was inviting her to take a look until she read the line about 50 points. Even without the note saying it, she knew her housemates would have stretched her if she cost them that much again so for now she would keep her hands to herself. Yup. That was the plan.

"Haii Em!!!" It was a miracle! The girl made it to the pitch even though she was afraid of flying! She walked by Vickers and gave him an affectionate jab in the side before nudging Minnie; they both got a nice smile too. "Hey Pao." She saw him back away from the tarp...poor kid...no sense of adventure.

And Kurumi! She gave her prefect a wave too.

TakemetotheBurrow 11-27-2012 07:44 PM

and Pao!

BEAMMMMMMM! Flying was Ella's absolute favorite and though it was quite sad that this was the final lesson of the term, she was still excited. She BOUNCED her way down to the pitch and gave a small but friendly smile to her classmates that were already there.

Take a School Broom. Your esteemed professor nor the school will take any responsibility for the loss or damage of personal property during the course of this Flying Final Exam.

...

Right, that wasn't ominous or anything. Shrugging her shoulders, the small blonde grabbed a broom and walked off to stand by Pao. Teammates stick together and all that, yeah? So Ella figured it best to hang by the little guy. "Hey Pao." She said quietly, waiting for the final to begin.

Her head was hurting and her heart was pounding against her chest so loudly as Louisa walked down the grounds to the pitch for her final flying adventure ever. One of the main reasons she kept this subject was to make her head of house pleased and proud, he trusted her enough to recommended her to be among the student leaders (especially the Head Girl position), and this was Louisa's way to tell him thank you. Because he must know by now that she's not a fan of leaving the ground. At. All.

She walked to the broom rack and grabbed a school broom before scanning the other pile and sign attached to it. No touchy. She moved back to where the others stood, avoiding anyone's gaze. Too busy feeling mortified by the upcoming exam.

Emzily 11-27-2012 08:09 PM

Theodore strutted along the pitch as he picked up a school broom. He wanted to use HIS broom, because he performed better with it, but whatever. He was still one of the best flyers in the school, so confidence was all over basically.

He couldn't see many friends, other than Ella, who was standing by another Hufflepuff dude, who he recognized as being a quidditch player, too.

....

....................

Was it bad that he was getting jealous of a first year?

Theo let out a huff, and decided to stand next to Kat instead. Since they were team mates and all, it seemed appropriate. Or at least, until West got here.

feeheeheeny 11-27-2012 08:22 PM

When Max walked onto the pitch, the first thing he saw was Emmaleigh, and he sighed happily. She was so brave, wasn't she? He walked in her direction, and when he got to her, he planted a sweet kiss on her cheek. "I'm glad you came. Everything's gonna be okay, all right? You've practiced hard. You can do this."

Why didn't she have a broom yet? Everyone else did. Was... she waiting for him? "Let's get our brooms,," he said with an encouraging smile, took her hand, and led her over to the school brooms. When they got there, he stopped to read the sign first.

...

Well, if Em wasn't already nervous, she surely would be now. "He's joking, I think," Max assured, though he knew Vindictus was probably quite serious. At the thought, he looked around for the man and was surprised to see him... way up in the stands. Interesting. Picking out a slightly better broom for Emmaleigh and handing it to her, Max picked the broom that was in the next best condition. "We'll be okay."

...But what was under that purple tarp?

Talikins 11-27-2012 08:26 PM

The final flying lesson of the year. Ness felt almost obliged to attend this, because flying had to have been one of her best subjects. Not to mention the flying would help with the match coming up.These kind of outdoor lessons were really what Nessie loved in the summer weather. It was perfect weather for quidditch or any outdoor activity really.

With a small smile on her face the Hufflepuff captain headed towards the group of students on the pitch. She eyed both the stack of brooms and the purple tarp. Before touching anything though she read what was written and followed instructions like a good girl. She grabbed a broom and then stood around looking at all the others there. "Hey all." She gave them all a wave realizing she knew majority of the people there by name.]

Time for some flying now, yeah?

Somnium 11-28-2012 01:05 AM

Taylor skipped over to the group and grinned, "Helloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo." She laughed and twirled then took out a box of lemon bars from her bag, "Professor, I hope you like lemon bars." Tay grinned and held out the box to him. He was one of her favorites.

Expecto-Penguin 11-28-2012 01:14 AM

As Belle made her way to the quidditch pitch, she saw the grass was vibrant green. It looked so beautiful on this spring day. As Belle made her way to the pitch, she saw the broom cupboard. She got out her broom and waited in line with the other students. She managed to see the sign the Professor left, she actually laughed a little bit for trying to have humor. She also saw he was serious.

Then she saw the large purple tarp. It look so interesting to see. She almost took a step toward it until she saw it the sign. It said you would lose 50 house points. Belle backed away quickly and saw other puffs at this final exam. She was excited and she had the feeling that the Professor was watching them but she couldn't see him.

Anna Banana 11-28-2012 01:23 AM

As Sierra stood out on the pitch and peered up toward Vindictus, she wondered what in the name of Merlin was about to happen. She'd seen that purple tarp, but she didn't dare peek underneath it. Especially since the sign so clearly threatened anybody from doing so. She wouldn't have looked underneath it anyway. She wasn't that excited about the lesson.

Nevertheless, this was Flying class, one of the main reasons she actually loved being here at school. She'd been born to fly. She just knew it. She shifted her weight from one foot to the other and continued to wait for Vindictus to get things started.

As the sight of Max, Emmaleigh felt relief rush over her, and she gave the boy a small smile that only grew wider when he kissed her cheek. “I’m glad you’re here.” The girl said, letting some of her nervousness show. She shook her head at all Max was saying. She had practiced, yes, but she still couldn’t fly. She was all wibbly wobbly on a broom, and things usually didn’t go well.

Holding on to his hand tight, Em followed along to the brooms. Reading the sign on the brooms, the girl froze. “What does that mean?” She squeaked. Damage? What sort of damage were they talking about? She stood there terrified as Max picked out brooms for the two of them. When he tried reassuring her again, Em looked up at him, fear in her eyes. “Max, I can’t do this.” But she would have to, because she was here, and couldn’t back out now.

All she had to do now was wait. Wait for everything to start, and a crash she just knew was coming. At least the sandwiches would be nice, she thought to herself.

Let the games begin!

Vindictus watched from his perch as the students arrived, read his warning signs, and grabbed a broom. Now it was time for the torture fun to begin. He pulled out his wand and pointed it at his throat.

Sonorus!

"Back in days of yore," he began in a booming voice, "Only the most brave and talented fliers would risk their lives for a broom game. For an old Gaelic poem tells us of the tragedy that surrounded this ancient game."

He cleared his throat.

"The players assembled, twelve fine, hearty men.
They strapped on their cauldrons, stood poised to fly.
At the sound of the horn they were swiftly airborne
But ten of their number were fated to die."

Vindictus stopped and flashed his award-winning smile.

"Who can tell the class what game I'm referring to?"

TeafortheSoul 11-28-2012 01:46 AM

"Creaothceann!" West answered, hand up excitedly. WERE THEY GONNA PLAY? That was epic! He had a hard head after all....

feeheeheeny 11-28-2012 01:47 AM

Oh, no.

"Creaothceann, professor," Max called with a raised hand, though it felt silly to do so when Vindictus was so far away. He gave Em an encouraging smile. Did... she know anything about the game? He hoped she didn't, just so she could have another moment to relax and... not be terrified for her life.

Somnium 11-28-2012 01:49 AM

Tay had grabbed a broom when the professor started to talk. She silently listen and thought about it. Taylor saw his nice smile then heard his question. Tay did more thinking and finally raised her hand, "Professor, are you referring to Creaothceann?"

DaniDiNardo 11-28-2012 01:51 AM

Suddenly there was a very loud noise that made Lex whirl around to face the Professor. Merlin, did he have to be that loud????

She looked up at him as he began talking in some kind of riddle like thing. She didn't know what he was saying--but she LIKED it. A game were people died....AWESOME. Erm...not the dying part of course because you know...people usually frowned upon that. Ahem. No. She just meant the fact that a game could be so violent.

Her hand shot up enthusiastically. "Professor, I don't know what game you're talking about but I LIKE it!" GRIN. Bring on the dangeeeer.

Yourenodaisy 11-28-2012 01:52 AM

Em squeezed Max's hand even harder as Vindictus started talking about risking lives and death and stuff. When asked what the sport was, Em muttered, Sounds like regular old flying to me.
