Where The Green between the Castle and the Stadium
Who Can Attend First year students who need to learn the basics before Quidditch Tryouts, and older students who wish to brush up on their flying skills.
What to Bring School brooms will be provided for all students. Make sure to wear sensible clothing.
Professor Vindictus arrived an hour before the lesson was scheduled to begin and arranged the broomsticks in two neat rows on the green grass located between the Castle and the Quidditch Stadium. Once he finished the task, he stood by and waited for the students to arrive.
Mount the broom keep one hand on the broom at all times and a yada yada yada.. Ari knew all of this though she still looked very attentive. When he finally gave the go ahead to fly several kids took off. mainly Odessa & Montmorency and every other captain & star player. Ariana rolled her eyes. embarrassed by her tryouts this morning. she had never played Quidditch competively so it wast her fault, bu the time the next tryout came along she was gonna be better. she kept her feet firm on the ground and pushed off as she glided into the Ari just coasting left and right when suddenly she noticed no one other then Dylan turning and coming towards her, probably on his way to odessa. she raised her broom a bit hoping to make it over him as she tried to stay clear of him
As she flew amongst her peers, Selina found herself really enjoying the personal flying time. Anytime on the Pitch was always a good time for the sixth year. That was probably part of the reason why she was Quidditch Captain. Her love for Quidditch bordered on the psychotic. Not that she minded. Being normal was grossly overrated.
The wind swept across her face as she flew more quickly then she had previously flown. Relishing in the moment, Selina smiled a little and closed her eyes. For a few moments she was swept up in the thrill of flying, before she heard an unusually loud yelp. Her eyes snapped open to see a group of first years trying to get their brooms under control... and Selina was flying right at them. Panicked, she turned her broom harshly to the left. She avoided them... just barely...
...Perhaps she should have flown with her eyes open.

"Straddle the broom and keep both feet planted firmly on the ground," he began. "Once you straddle the broom, check your hand placement. Left-handed fliers will naturally have their left hand placed on the broom handle, directly above the right, and right-handed fliers will have theirs placed above the left."
He purposely stopped talking and gave the class a long, hard stare. "Never take your hands off the broom handle. One hand must always be on it for control or else you'll lose control and go SPLAT. Now, where was I? Oh, yes. Broom control!"
"Leaning forward over the broom handle will cause you to speed up. Sitting up on the broom while pulling the handle towards you will slow you down. Pushing the broom handle to the right or to the left will move you in those directions. To land, gently nudge the broom handle towards the ground but never, ever point it straight down because it is extremely difficult to pull out of a vertical dive. In fact, it is rare to see a Seeker go into a perfectly vertical dive because of the danger. Landing at a forty-five degree angle is the safest and most effective way to land."
Vindictus paused and hoped that his warning would sink in. Rocketing towards the ground at a ninety-degree angle always ended badly. "To begin flying, gently push off from the ground with your feet."
"You may begin!"
Yes, yes...Straddling the broom...both feet planted firmly on the ground...hand placement...
Dylan grinned at the Old Quidditch guy. He definitely hadn't been much of a Vinny-fan at first, but he'd grown on him.
Swinging his leg over the side of the broom, he situated it a bit before fixing his hands. His feet remained where they were on the ground...all firmly-planted as instructed. Anyway, the Slytherin Captain was right handed so his hand-placement reflected that with the right being over the left.
No removing hands from the handle...UNLESS you're making a FANTASTIC leap for the snitch...or in the midst of battle over the quaffle...Dylan was familiar with broom control, obviously. He was a Captain...but that wasn't to say the Slytherin wasn't listening. Might as well learn something new if Vinny was offering it.
...Not that it was anything he didn't already know...
Anyway, time for KICK OFF.
Gently kicking off the ground as instructed, Dylan soared into the air. The Slytherin loathed school brooms...Really. There was nothing good about them. NOTHING...Why couldn't he bring his own, again?
Maneuvering in the air easily, he spied Odessa...The younger boy had had an amazing show at the first tryout session. Really, just fantastic. Could you tell Dylan was proud as a Captain?
Nudging the broom to the right a bit, he made his way over...
West being West got distracted pretty quick and stopped pestering the Gryffindor prefect. He pulled his broom into a tight turn and waaaved at his captain.
Showing off that Chaser!one!handed!grip.
"I want to try something." He announced. "A move."
West flew higher so that he was on a level with Dylan. He basically had no idea what they were SUPPOSED to be doing, and already knew how to fly, and was just taking it as an opportunity to get in the air. Practice was always good. And besides, he was pretty good with stupid school brooms by now.

After a few moments of mindless flying and her near collision with a group of first years, Selina was finally floating next to the goal posts. She pulled up on her handle so her broom came to a clean and clear stop. Once she was just sitting there, she took the chance to look around the Pitch again. Not so much activity. It was better then most years. Every once and a while they would get a bunch of crazy people on the Pitch who would go after one another and drive Vindictus up the wall. The last thing she wanted to do was upset Vindictus in anyway. As much as she respected the man, he was quite terrifying when provoked. And that was when he WASN'T a pirate.
Deciding to not be such a lazy flyer, she leaned into her broom and took off once more. There was nothing much to do, so she was just going to head to the other end of the Pitch. Maybe no other flyers would get in the way this time. Well, one could wish.
Sarah looked around first to m,ake sure her brother was alright and hadn't done anything silly yet. Then woth the ground clearing Sarah began to get moving. She kicked in the ground hard and then... she was off. She was now able to experience what her kite experienced -or sort of.
The breeze gently pluayed with her hair and she adjusted her broom so she could go a bit higher. She LOVED heights. There were some people she knew that were scared of heights. The kind of people who would not stand up on a bench as they had a fear of looking down.

Alyssa decided to try something different this time. She was going to do 360 degree loops.
First she attemped making 360 degree circles. Making sure that her thighs were gripping the broomstick tightly, Alyssa made her first circle. Leaning to the right, she moved her broom handle in that direction as she began to turn to the right, Alyssa continued to lean towards the right, making sure that the broom handle remained pointing in that direction.
She felt the wind rush by her as she completed a circle. Alyssa then quickly leaned to the left, pointing her broom handle towards the left and made another circle this time counter clockwise. As she started the turn she continued to lean towards the left, making sure that her broom handle was also pointed in that direction.
She had completed 2 circles now. She figured that she would next try making a figure 8 loop.

Seeing Odessa wave, Dylan didn't think anything of it before lifting his own arm and waving back...but as he did this, his arm accidently smacked someone to the left of him...Turning to apologize, the Slytherin spied his stalker and glared.
No. Apology. For. You.
Pushing past her, the Slytherin laid against the handle of the school issue, trying to make it far away from the girl he'd just accidently hit. Really, it hadn't been the Captain's fault she was in the way...all the time...
Suddenly Odessa was announcing a move. Ohhh snap! He'd been practicing...and was attempting the new move on a dinky school broom? Dylan was eager to see this...Pulling the handle up and balancing his body in an upright position, he smirked. "Well, go on, then. Let's see it."
Suddenly Rich had joined them. The Slytherin Captain offered his best mate a hard look before smirking. "Whats up, man?"

Maybe he had started to have fun a bit but watching the grounds had started to get a little bit boring. Slowing down a bit, he looked up and around at the others. Girls were flying around, no doubt, and some of them were fun to watch yet he had to make sure he did not come to a complete halt watching them. That could attract some attention from the professor man and, yeah, he did not want to be involved with him.
While his gray eyes were following one girl that he had recognized, he saw Dylan and a wide smirk appeared on his face. There were others around him, no doubt, but Rich did not care. Quickly he leaned down and speeded up to fly there. He tried to fly there with full speed but the distance was not long enough so he had to slow down in a minute or so. So disappointing.
Once he was close to the captain, he eyed the others interaction with him before smirking at Dylan. ''Hey, dude!''
Had to keep an eye on that certain girl too...
So he looked back a bit.

There was a lot that Selina wanted to do before she reached the first post on the opposite side. She had become quite bored just flying around aimlessly. The fun of doing that lie in flying by herself; however, with the pitch half full, she could not really concentrate on just flying alone. It was not that she wanted to out compete anyone she could do that when Quidditch season came around, it was more that she felt as if she were being judged by her lack of flash. Usually, she did not care what anyone thought of her, but she did not want a single person here to think that the Gryffindor Quidditch Captain was a lazy flyer. If that rumor went live she would have to do a lot of back peddling.
So, taking her handle firmly, she leaned into her broom to pick up her speed. The redhea really pushed hard to try and fly as quickly as she could. It took a few moments to get to maximum speed because this was a new broom to her being that bringing her own broom to class was against the rules, yet once she was moving as fast as she wanted to she flew right at the post. Pressing her nose to the handle she flew straight through the goal post before making a hard left turn. Her broom skidded for a moment before it turned. But she still flew. Then she spun around the actual post part of the goal posts until she was near the bottom of the grass.
Before she hit the ground she yanked her broom upward so she was soaring up back into the sky. Reaching the same latitude as the rest of her classmates she stopped her broom short.
Elliot held onto the broom tightly, too nervous to let it go...for it might suddenly drop and then she'd have to do all the UP nonsense all over again! And she most definitely did NOT want that...no no no!
So she tried to remain NOT NERVOUS while Professor Vindictus explained...okay...Elliot was right handed, and he told them how to hold the brooms right. Why didn't Elliot know this already? Eh...
She put the broom..under her, and sat the way he said to, and felt EXTRMELY nervous...she sent a nervous grin at Hannah, but she definitely was scared out of her mind. SHE SHOULDN'T BE! But she was.
So she gently pushed off the ground....and here it begins...the blonde grasped the handle tightly...Merlin...she rose higher into the air, and she tried to steady it....she stopped rising, which was good. Now all she needed to do was...fly...
Ugh.

Okay this was going to be no problem. Sure she had never flown a day in her life and had zero athletic ability, but Eliza was a fast learner and she certainly wasn’t going to let a simple broom get the best of her.
She stood to the side of her broom and held out her open hand as instructed. “Up” she said to it. The broom wiggled in the grass. “Close, but no cigar,” she thought. “UP.” The broom lifted a few inches and fell back down to the ground. Clearly she wasn’t putting enough feeling into this. “UP!” she sassed to the broom. This time it moved so fast she almost flinched away instead of catching it, but felt her fingers grasp down hard before she could make any conscious decision to react. “Well at least my hand seems to know what it’s doing.”
Now it was time for lift off. “Okay broom,” she said aloud. She could be a bit quirky sometimes and she hoped no one would think she was crazy, but she felt that this was one of those situations where it was okay to openly talk to inanimate objects. Well actually, she supposed the broom was about to be very animated indeed.
She swung a leg over to hop onto the broom. Sitting still didn’t seem to be so bad. She jiggled her weight back and forth a bit to test the sturdiness of her ride. “That would be all I need,” she thought “to be seen talking to myself and my broom as I flail off into the dirt.” She stretched her toes towards the ground and gave a soft push. Eliza felt herself lifting further from the ground, inch by inch. A breeze caught her light auburn hair and she smiled to herself.

And then, finally, it was really time to fly!
Penelope swung a leg over the broom and put her right hand above of her left as she usually did, then, once they were given the instruction to begin, she kicked off hard against the ground and felt herself rising quickly. It felt even better than she had remembered. Merlin, she really needed to get herself her own broom so she could do this during the summer. She doubted her grandparents would really mind, as long as they weren't the ones who had to pay for it.
She kept rising until she was several feet in the air. She really wanted to go even higher, but she did remember that there was something of a limit last year and assumed it still applied. Even though she couldn't remember what the limit exactly was. But whatever. She figured if she was too high someone would tell her though Kurumi had tried that last year and she hadn't listened so good luck with that.
But now, hovering was boring. So she leaned forward on the broom and smiled as it started picking up speed.

Broom in hand, Gideon slipped his one leg over the broom straddling it as directed but really moving by rout. It was almost second nature, the seventh year was simply doing it along with the rest of the class to avoid rushing ahead of anyone, including the professor. No point in making it look too easy. His right hand joined his left already there on the handle as he listened to Vindictus explain the basics of broom control.
Lean right to go right...left to go left...forward over the broom to pick up speed...yep all he was aware of.
Now for the actual flying.
The seventh year focused on himself and his broom now that they were free to begin. With a gentle push of the ground Gideon lifted up into air as some of his classmates did as well. Of course others like Selina seemed to be way ahead of the rest of them. Having only been hovering a few feet of the ground wary of the beginner fliers, Gideon headed up higher into the sky. It really was no fun down too low especially with so many others around. So leaning his body and guiding his broom, the prefect flew up to a reasonable height to start off at and began to make a circuit.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
Looking to the professor again when he started speaking a wide smile crawled onto the 11 year old's face. This was the moment she had been waiting on!
Not wanting to waste precious air time Lex quickly straddled the broom and lifted off the ground. For a moment she stayed stationary in the air watching everyone else, trying to see if there was anything in particular that she was supposed to be doing but it all seemed like a free for all so she would probably just glide around for a bit and enjoy the freedom.
...
She liked the sound of that!
She flew a bit higher to get a better look of the school. The view was great from up here! Looking down Alexa could see people doing loops and others swerving and doing cool stuff!!! Neat!

Nigel was finally going to be flying after spending the whole summer on his two feet. He got on his broom and kicked off. He started to get higher and was so happy to fell the wind through his hair. Nigel thought he heard Professor V say not to do anything crazy.
Nigel wondered what type of crazy things Professor V meant when he said that. Was flying through the Quidditch hoops crazy? Nigel did not know. So Nigel decided to just fly around in circles to get used to flying again. He was getting bored so now he had to think of something else to do.

Easy peasy! This all came naturally to Nessie by now and she knew she could get into the air with out any hassle. Problem was, not getting attacked by all these beginners. She eyed the for a few moments, pouted and wondering whether maybe assisting them would work. Then images of things just going terribly wrong popped in her head. She shook her head and let her bright red ponytail shake too. She needed to get those thoughts away. Right now was flying time and not time to fool around.
Lifting her leg over the broom, Renesmee sat comfortablly. She then placed both her hands on the handle, her right being in the front, and with that she tugged not to lightly on the ground as she rose up in the air. She closed her eyes for a few seconds, breathed and then opened them. She was ready now. She leaned forward and then ZOOM! She raced off going higher into the air.
After a lap of flying, the red head looked around at the others, checking if anyone maybe still needed assistance and it was then she saw him.
Dylan..and he didn't look to bad either. No she had not just thought that, she refused to believe it. She eyed him with a glare. That was way better than thinking about his good looks. Yep. In fact he deserved more glaring.
Slowly loosing focus on her actual flying, Renesmee just continued to glare, glare and glare even more and the Slytherin Captain up in the air.
Taylor listen as the professor talked about simple broom control. She was rapidly growing bored as the professor went on and on. When he finally shut up, Tay straddled the broom and placed her left hand above her right hand on the broom. Taylor made sure that her knuckles weren't white but that her hands has a good grip on the handle. She pushed off the ground but stayed hovering a few inches above the ground as she readjusted on the school's broom. Taylor wished that she could use hers. Tay hated how slow the school's broom is and how it only lets you go just high enough off the ground to consider it to be flying. Taylor longed for speed and height but at least she got to fly. She needed to practice on her broom for the quidditch try-outs that were coming soon enough. Tay started to go a little higher than a few inches and she leaned into the broom, shooting off.

The place was still very new to him so way away yet from being his favourite.
He was only watching the green grounds when he realised someone fly past his right. The flier was kinda way from him but the boy caught her sight. He slowed down immediately and made his broom turn around to follow the girl. Then he followed the girl's route and speeded up a bit to catch up with her. Her hair looked nice waving with the breeze.
''Hello there.'' Richard said once he was closest to the girl. Flying was fun but flying with someone, especially a girl like this one, was way better, was not it?
Sierra was still flying straight ahead, enjoying the feeling of being up in the air again, when she heard a nearby voice. The voice sounded a little too nearby for her to just be picking up on somebody else's conversation, so she turned slightly to the side. Hmm...so it was somebody chatting her up.
"Hello," she said, although, the wind carried her voice backward. Coming up on a curve in the grassy area, she tilted her broom a little to the left and then made the curve. She rounded the next curve, as well, and then started flying straight again. Looking to the side of her, she saw the boy.
"Do you make it a habit of talking while flying?" she randomly asked.

Passing a grouping of other students, Gideon decided to pick up speed, the seventh year leaning over the handle of his broomstick to get it to respond. In answer, he sped up, the wind from the quick movement rustling through his curly brown hair. Ah to be free and flying high up in the air! Oh if only he could manage to do it without a broom sometime., but that still needed work at the moment.
Straightening up a bit, he brought back his speed to a more reasonable note before leaning to his left and pulling around the pole of one of the goal hoops. With a quick twist and a lean in the opposite direction he weaved back the other way and around another of the poles. Two down...one more to go. Gideon pulled himself out of the turn and attempted the last one but failed as a Ravenclaw chose that moment to fly nearby causing him to abort since he wasn't about to risk a collision.

EEP! Yay! This was what Ella had been waiting for since the start of term. Time to fly. The third year straddled the broom and grasped the handle tightly, a smile on her face. With a gentle kick off from the ground, she was off.
Once the third year was up in the air, she evened out and looked for a clear path across the pitch. She didn't want to bump into anyone but she did fancy going a little faster. There seemed to be some room towards the right side so the blonde leaned forward, going fast but not too fast. She didn't want to have any wipe outs. It was too early in the term for that kind of thing. Once she was going at a good pace, she slowed down and let herself enjoy the feeling of being on a broom again. It really was the best thing ever!

West wouldn't have noticed Ariana if it wasn't for Dylan accidentally smacking her with his hand. Well that was the danger of flailing limbs when you were on a broom, right? Best to tuck those arms in, at least that was what all the experts said in books and things. West read all the books but he sure still did his own thing all the same. He sorta waved at Ariana too. He was friendly like that. And if she liked Quidditch, it meant she was alright.

and who was THAT guy? West looked curiously over at the other bigger boy, that Dylan was smirking at, and then dismissively turned his attention back to Dylan, while making lazy zig zags in every direction, changing altitude and angle here and there, seemingly at random, but really he was just mucking about with quick direction changes.

With the near-miss behind him, Gideon pulled up a bit, heading just a few feet higher and hovering like he had when he had first risen from the ground. That way he figured he could get a quick layout of where people were across the pitch and the green where they had started out in the first place. Zigging and zagging around and between quidditch players was one thing, they had a bit more control and were usually not on tempermental school brooms.
Flying in class was just a tad different.
Once settled, the seventh year leaned forward dropping him down a bit before he pulled up and out of the shallow dive. Just enough of a rush as he switched back to flying straight ahead, every once and a while suddenly weaving in and out to add some interest to his flight plan. No point in being too boring and predictable, he needed those reflexs ready for tryouts.

Alright, it's go time. Hannah was pumped. She kicked off from the ground and soared into the air. Man did the wind through her air feel good. She leveled out and decided to brush up on her stopping and starting skills just in case she was a little rusty. She highly doubted it, but still. She would hate to take out a firstie, on accident of course. She leaned forward and took off. Man did this feel good. She then brought her broom up slowly toward her and slowed down. Oh yeah she still had it. No doubt.
Not wanting the feeling of pure glee she took off and did a loop around the grounds. It was like second nature to her. She was truly enjoying herself. Flying was one of the only things that made her feel like this. She breathed in deep and let the air clear her mind completely. Then she thought of her friend Elliot and sought out to find her and see how seeing was coming along with this whole flying business!

"Is this your first time flying?" She asked, lowering her voice a bit...just in case. The school year had barely gotten under way yet she had gotten into enough trouble to last her...a bit a lifetime so she wasn't looking for anymore just yet.
So someone had noticed his accomplishment? Pao beamed inwardly, but tried not to show anything outwardly. Still, he was glad that he was showing some promise in this, especially when he was so clumsy on the ground.
He nodded at her question. He still wasn't sure if talking was allowed. Vindictus seemed like he could be strict.

Speaking of which... When the old man began to give more instructions, Pao paid rapt attention. Straddle the broom.. right over left... Splat... He tried to remember everything he'd need to know.
When it was time for them to give it a try himself, it was time for a mental pep talk. Okay, you've got this, Pao. Nice and easy does it.
With a deep breath, he threw his right leg over the broom handle. His toes just grazed the tail twigs, making a slight rustling noise. "Feet firmly planted," he muttered. Glancing up at the handle, he noted that his hands were incorrectly placed and shuffled the right one above the left. Better. It felt much more natural that way. From this point on, he vowed to never let his hands leave the bulky handle until he was no longer airborne. He didn't want to be the one who splatted.
Initial position checked out, he began to review everything else the instructor had said before he actually took off. Better to be doubly prepared than hasty. And injured.
