Where The Green between the Castle and the Stadium
Who Can Attend First year students who need to learn the basics before Quidditch Tryouts, and older students who wish to brush up on their flying skills.
What to Bring School brooms will be provided for all students. Make sure to wear sensible clothing.
Professor Vindictus arrived an hour before the lesson was scheduled to begin and arranged the broomsticks in two neat rows on the green grass located between the Castle and the Quidditch Stadium. Once he finished the task, he stood by and waited for the students to arrive.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
After having picked out a broom he would use for todays lesson, Daichi walked back to his place and give himself some space. He was glad to be able to fly again because he couldn't at home since he lived in a flat building so if any muggles saw him flying on a broom...he had to answer a lot of questions...
The Slytherin looked down at his broom and said "Up!" in a clear and steady voice. The broom flew in to his hands immediatelly and he grinned a little. He always thought he was better in flying than in using magic but the thought that he could not sign up again this year for the Quidditch team made him sigh. O.W.L's studies were coming soon and he had promised his father he would focus on that.
Nigel was getting pretty uncomfortable just standing there waiting by his brrom. He was a patient person. But not totally patient. When Professor Vindictus told them the next step. He could not wait. He just wanted to be in the sky again. Nigel loved the feeling of the wind whipping across his face.
Nigel put his hand above the broom and said "UP" confidently. He was not shocked when the broom flew straight up into his hand. He was getting pretty good at this.

Vindictus watched as the students selected their brooms and stood next to them. Once the path he created between the two broomstick rows was clear, he began his customary pacing down the aisle.
"Good. Good," he said and stopped directly in front of a certain Ravenclaw. "You selected a reliable broom, Vivi. Good job." He gave her a smile and resumed his pacing.
"Place your left hand over the broom and in a firm, steady voice, say 'Up!'." Vindictus knew that some students would have some difficulty with the most basic task. "Remember that you're in charge and not the broom - make sure you let it know that you're the boss! Once the broom handle hits your open palm, grasp it tightly."
Orr placed her left hand over the broom and said, 'Up!'. Unfortunately, the broom just rolled to the left slightly before moving not even an inch off the ground before falling to the ground and lying still. Inwardly, Orr groaned, Just her luck- she had to go and chose an unreliable broom. She tried again this time injecting a more steady and firm tone to her voice and to her delight, the broom flew neatly off the ground and into her left palm. She gripped it tightly all chuffed that she managed to "tame" an unreliable broom.

Silvia never really had a problem summoning the broom; it seemed to come easily to her. She held her hand out above the broom and with a clear and firm "Up!" the broom quickly rose into her hand. Satisfied that she seemed to be in control, Silvia waited, a little impatiently (though she tried to hide it), for Vindictus to tell them they could mount and take off.

Standing on the left side of her broom she listened carefully to the instructer. Ariella was determined to be good at this class no matter what because if she ever wanted to be considered as a potential member of the quidditch team she was going to have to be good at flying...
Placing her right hand over the broom she stood up straight, and pushed her chest out so she would be 'in charge' and said, "Up!" But unfortuanatly, nothing happened. "Well find if your going to be that way about it..." Ariella grumbled at her broom before attempting it again, only this time using her 'super in charge' voice "UP!"
Ari was shocked when in a spit second her empty hand was suddenly grasping the wooden handle of her broom! "Yes!" Ari said wooped quietly and she performed a small fist pump for her victory...

"She's a peach, Professor V," Vivi grinned at the man as he passed, and then turned her attention back to the broom. This was really the pivotal moment, the moment she and her broom figured out if they were going to get along or just... fight each other for the duration of the lesson.
She held out her hand and said clearly, "UP." The broom jumped into her hand, slapping her palm with a dull thud and then sort of nuzzling against her hand like they were old friends. The broom really was a peach! Nice little thing.
Vivi closed her hand around the handle and rolled her palm slightly to lock her wrist. Flying soon? Please?

Okay...soo...Elliot was the BOSS. She kept repeating that in her head...she believed it...she soo totally believed that she was the boss over the stupid broom..yep...she would totally fly today..
Her stomach turned over at that thought, and she gulped. She needed to conquer her fears! It was a definite! She couldn't be afraid of heights her whole life! Morganzos were fearless!

Hannah selected the broom next to best friend and stood to the left of it. Hannah was in such a good mood to fly that would think that she was normally a nice person. Don't let that fool you though. She stood on the left side of the broom and waited for further instruction.
Even though Hannah knew the basics she still enjoyed going over them again every year. By enjoying them she means that it didn't bother her. She placed her left hand over the broom and said "Up!" all perfect and firm like. Of course the broom handle zoomed into her waiting hand. Hannah gripped it tightly, and waited for further instruction. She was a pro at this.
She noticed Hannah, shot her friend a nervous smile(so not Elliot, right?) and then placed her hand above the broom. She coughed, and said quite clearly, "Up!" the broom remained on the ground. Elliot furrowed her eyebrows. "Up!" it stayed still. Elliot stomped her foot on the ground in annoyance. She got on her knees, and stared at the broom angrily! "Hey, broom, when I say UP! you fly up! Got it?" she tried to sound like she was in charge...but...her voice wasn't as bossy as it definitely could be. SO she stood up again, and said, louder this time, "UUPP!" The broom lay there, twitching a bit, as if it were laughing at her.
Merlin.
Elliot felt her cheeks flush with rage and she turned to Hannah...who was standing there, with a broom in her hand. "How did you do that?! Help me!" she pleaded her best friend...because...aahhhh!

Hannah couldn't help but notice that her friend was having a hard time getting her broom to cooperate with her. She tried to pretend as if she didn't see it at first because she was sure that Elliot was having a hard time not being good at something. It was hard to ignore once she got on level ground with the broom...and did she just yell at the broom. O___O
Elliot had asked her for help so she couldn't pretend like she didn't see anything. "First your broom probably doesn't appreciate being yelled at." she said with a geniune smile. Only she was sure that Elliot was not in the mood for jokes.
"Seriously though, you just have to be sure of yourself. Be firm." She looked around to make sure nobody was listening to them. In a whisper that only Elliot could hear she said "Act like it's a puffer." She could be bossy and firm in that sense! "You can do it Morganzo!" She knew her friend could...she was just merely overthinking it.
Flying. Finally a lesson that didn't involve much thinking. It was these kind of things Nessie enjoyed, she couldn't stand using her brain all the time, it needed a break you know?
Now if Nessie had a choice she would have surely brought her purple broom along, but seeing as this lessons was more for the younger and less skilled flyers she didn't want having to risk any damage to her new broom just yet, instead she would use the brooms supplied like everybody else was.
Already standing by her broom, Renesmee looked at it for a few short moments and then with just a little bit of concentration, she raised her hand. "Up!" she said still focused and watched as the broom flew upwards to land safely in her palm. She tightened her grip on the handle and looked around.
Some people seemed to be struggling and it really was simple once you did it right. "Anyone need help?" asked Ness looking at the firsties now.

Elliot shot a glare at Hannah. Haha...so funny Lockwood.
No. Elliot would NOT act like a puffer. No. NEVER. Elliot merely stared at Hannah...with utter confusion, revulsion, etc...and no need to cheer her on. Elliot didn't appreciate it. Like she should.
But she stood next to her broom, and cleared her throat. She glared down at it, and tried to picture herself..bossing around her little sisters. yeah...that was good, right?
"I'm only going to ask ONE MORE TIME...Up!" she said clearly, and the broom flew up into her outstretched hand...Elliot's face broke into a broad grin. Wow! "I did it! I actually did it! Broom listened to me!" she sounded almost giddy and very un-Elliot like. but hey, she had never had this much luck with brooms.

For what seemed to be the first time, Gwendolyn was actually looking forward to this class. Indeed, she learned to like flying, but still didn’t have enough courage to try playing Quidditch. But flying was alright. It was actually better than just alright. She waited patiently for the first instructions. After having listened to Professor Vindictus talk, the fifth year positioned herself next to the broom. What next?
The only thing left to do was make the broom raise from the ground. That was the thing she had been afraid of in the previous years. The fifth year eyed the broom for a moment, trying to convince herself that there was no way she could fail at this. Not now. Not anymore. This was supposed to be one of the easiest things, so it couldn’t go wrong... ‘Up’, she said, with her hand placed over the broom, and watched it raise from the ground. Now just wait to get up in the air.
After she managed to get her broom to come up, the fifth year gave a quick look around, waiting for further instructions, and someone caught her eye. The Ravenclaw, to whom she had promised to help up with flying once the new term started. Gwen couldn’t help but feel a bit bad for not sticking to the plan… She had been thinking of what she should do about it… maybe talk to Elliot sometime later that day, when she noticed that the younger girl managed to get the broom up. Well… looks like she may not need my help, after all.

West looked left and right, shrugged, then went ahead with no mucking around. "Up!"
He was the brooooommaster. Kind of, West wanted to spin his broom around and play the fool. But also, best not to be more noticed. Nope. Nothing to see heeeere.
West just held the school broom and waaaited.

Oh, goodie. The one point Elektra couldn't get passed first year. Gettin the broom to her hand. Ugh too many bad memories. Elektra slowly put left hand out as he glared at her broom and said, "Alright broom...UP! Nothing. Elektra huffed and kept her hand up as she said "UP" repeatedly about five times and still nothing. Elektra let out a little muffled yell and then shouted, "BLOODY UP!!!" Se didn't even have time to prepare herself. The next thing she heard was a large THWACK abnd Elektra fell down putting her hands over her face and groaned loudly, "Aaaaaaaaaaah BLOODY HELL THAT HURT!!!! Elektra took a moment to slowly sit up and shake her head before picking herself up, forgetting about the possibility that her nosemight be broken, and stuck her hand out again and said, "Up! and for the first time...the broom went to her hand. Elektra smirked and then chuckled softly to herself and looked over at her friend Violet and then looked at her broom, "haha got you!"

Ariana stood on the right side of her broom placing her left hand over, she looked down at the broom and very sternly ordered it "Up." the broom shot up into her hand and ariana caught it with no problem, this was one class she had No problem at all with.

Well, now this part she could handle. Calling a broom into her hand was as easy as walking, taking, and just living in general. What was the difference, anyway, in just picking up the broom and mounting it and calling it into your hand and mounting it? She'd picked it up many times while getting ready for a match.
Shrugging, she placed her left hand over the broom and called it to her. "Up!" she said, in a firm, steady voice. The broom slapped itself into her palm, and when it did, Sierra got a firm grasp on it. Hmm. She guessed that was why they did this whole 'Up' thing--to show the broom who's boss.

Okay, simple. Just say "Up." Awarlesta positioned her left hand over the broom and took a deep breath. "Up." The broom moved a centimeter. Awarlesta rolled her eyes in frustration. Louder! She cleared her throat. "UP!" The broom shot up to her palm and she grasped it. She shimmied back and forth. Yes!
Having chosen one of the decent looking brooms, the flying hater decent fan watched the professor pace like he usually did while explaining the basics and laying out the law of the broom calling. It was probably the only step of this lesson that Louisa was good at. Ergo why she confidently looked down at the broom, raised her hand to where it was parallel to it and called, "Up." The broom zooming upward, gracefully, to the Ravenclaw's hand and the girl quickly wrapped her fingers around it grasping it tightly.
James walked up to a broom and stood at the left of it.

He held his left hand out, "UP" he cried, yet the broom did not budge. Only on the second time did he get a roll, yet on the third try it bounded up to him, he grasped it in his hand.
Sophie waited a few seconds before stretching her hand over the broom and trying the thing for herself. She didn't have that much trouble with this 'up' part two years ago, but she wouldn't be surprised if she actually messed up this time. It's been a while since she last did this.
Anyway, the third year saw Elliot struggling a few people away from her and restrained a chuckle under her breath, biting her lower lip to make sure no one noticed it. Mehehehehehehehe!
When she finally stretched her hand over the broom, she looked down at it before saying anything out loud. Maybe it's just like spells... you just need intention and... well, be confident about it? Made enough sense. And it worked last time!
"UP!" Sophie said almost in a demanding tone. The summer holidays taught her to use this firm tone whenever she pleased. At least one good thing she could take from it, since the broom obviously understood it and zoomed to her hand.
YAY!
The badger grasped the handle tightly and looked around to watch some other classmates.

Well, this shouldn't be too hard. Cardigan had had plenty of practice with this kind of stuff. It was pretty easy if you think about it, a lot like dealing with a dog, odd enough. If you don't say sit to a dog firmly enough or you don't practice, they won't do it!
"Up," the third year said clearly and firmly, her hand hovering over the broom. It shot up into her hand with no problems at all. She grasped it tightly, a smug little look on her face. Heh, this class was easy as pie. Easy as microwaveable pie. By the looks on some other's faces, that seemed so for them as well.

Pao just stared at the other students, reassured that the first years at least seemed to be just as nervous and unsure as he was. Wait, that's it? All they had to do was say one word? That can't be so hard, right?
He gave himself a small pep talk. I'm the boss. I've got this. That broom is going down!
He placed his right hand over the broom. Wait, hadn't Vindictus specifically said to use their left hands? Well that doesn't make sense.. They were standing on the left sides of their brooms, so why wouldn't they use the hand closest to the broomstick? Pao just shook his head, resigning himself to the fact that this Vindictus character must know more than a first year could.
Left hand over the broom this time, he cleared his throat and said, "Up! ...Please." It couldn't hurt to be polite, right? To his immense surprise, the broom zoomed into his hand. "Woah!" This.. was new. He never got success like that on the first try.
Maybe I can do this after all!

Alyssa always liked this part of the lesson. Feeling her broom...or rather in this case...the school's broom, lift up into her raised hand. Placing her left hand palm open and facing down over the broom, she said, "UP" and immediately her broom raised straight up and into her grasp. She closed her fingers around it and waited for further instructions.
Juliette stood nervously next to her broom. The most practice she had ever had with a broom was watching her cousins fly around, and that hardly counted as experience. She remembered hearing that she had to be firm with the broom, so she planted her feet into the grass and took a deep breath.
I have to be the boss. She thought to herself, putting the mentality into her mind and setting it there.
"Up!" She said as firmly as she could. Without warning, the broom soared into her hand, and surprised, she grabbed it tightly. Okay, that was easier than she thought it would be. She half expected her broom to be the only one in the class that wouldn't soar up into her hand and that she would be the only one who couldn't do the most basic task.
Listening to the instructions Em shifted uncomfortably. She was the boss, right. Except every time she had ever been on a broom it hadn’t felt that way. She had her hands balled up into fist while she tried to calm herself a bit. Taking a few deep breaths, she flexed her hand several times before placing it above the broom. “Up.” She commanded, trying to make it sound as if she wasn’t nervous. Nothing at all happened, and she glanced around. Of course most of the younger kids were having issues, but she was glad to see that a great deal of the seventh years were having trouble as well. That instilled a bit more confidence into her, knowing she wasn’t alone. Looking down at the broom, she commanded it to her hand again. “Up.” It was a little stronger this time, and the broom wiggled a bit on the ground.

Vindictus, once everyone seemed settled next to a broom, instructed the class to summon their broom into their palms. That was easy enough. Selina had been doing that since before she could even remember. Her dad had been adamant at a very young age that no daughter of his would be unable to summon a broom. So this trick was old hat for her.
She raised her palm above the broom and commanded, "Up!" On cue, the broom snapped up into her awaiting palm. It moved so quickly to its target that she felt a little bit of whiplash at the contact. However, at least it was in her hand although she would rather have had her beater bat in her hand at that moment. She loosened her grip a little on the bat so she could regain the feeling in her fingers. The bat was being very aggressive... Good bat.
While she waited for Vindictus to move on with the lesson, Selina caught sight of Kurumi. The girl looked like she was on the verge of having a nervous break down. Oh Merlin. She supposed that this was PARTIALLY her fault, but seriously... It was just a broom. She was looking at the thing like it had fangs or something. Inside her head she was telling Kurumi to breathe. If she passed out there was no way the broom would move.
