Divination Lesson One

The chill November air was definately hanging around the Divination Tower but once you ascended the ladder into the classroom the heat from the firegrate, being trapped in the room with the window-coverings, assured you this class was definately going to be a stifling one. The room was dark, apart from a few candles here and there so watch your step as you find you way to a table.

Professor Elwood was no where to be seen but you can bet she will be there soon so there had better be no funny business, besides her parrot, Galileo was there watching.

OCC: Come on in and take a seat. The lesson won't start for a while so there's plenty of time to post. Prof. Elwood doesn't appear to be there yet but don't try anything, Prefects will be in charge until she shows up. Enjoy.

"Either that or your future husband might first be your enemy, but will end up being your husband and you both will be successful." That sounded kind of fun as well.

"Yeah. Who knows what the future holds. No offence but, I don't really believe in the type of "dreams tell your future" stuff" Jen says with out sounding well, offensive.

Nigel had just asked about Laura's dream when he hears the Headmistress yell. Nigel quickly turned his still wet self to see what she wanted.

The boy was talking about wizarding magic. Tinka no get wizard magic! What with all their big, long, fancy words and strange hand signals, it was strange they could get anything done! But the elf just politely smiled and nodded, ears bobbing up and down, as the boy attempted to explain. "Yes, sir. Sir call Tinka by Tinka if he want to!" She nodded eagerly to show her like of the idea.

Hadn't she said that already? "Broochie be big and green, sir!"

Tinka bowed low to the professor. "Oh yes, hello missus. Tinka at your service!" She nodded enthusiastically. "Yes, it be Headmissus Truedbridge's, ma'am. Has missus seen it?" she asked eagerly, hoping for the first sign of a clue.

Bowing low once more, Tinka's mouth opened into a wide, toothy grin. "Oh, missus be so helpful! Yes, studentsies search their area, studentsies search!" But her ears drooped a bit when she realized her dismissal. Conflicted between two orders, both from Hogwarts staff members, Tinka started flapping her arms and hitting her head when she heard...

"Oh, Headmissus! No one find broochie yet, but Tinka keep looking!" Nod, nod, nod. "Only... Tinka not know what Tinka supposed to do. Headmissus tell elvsies look everywhere, but missus professor say SHE look here." More arm flaps and a swift knock on the head. "Tinka no know what to do, Tinka no know!"

Jen took the book and looked through the book and looked up the words "friends, mountain, lost"
"Well by the book and what you told me, I'm thinking that maybe a friend in real life would betray you. Or he or she is not who he or she seems."

"Floating?" Kurumi repeated as she flipped through the text a bit. That was the same as flying, right? Or was floating listed in here as well. Kurumi's quill flew over her parchment and paused just long enough to hear what Jory asked. "You can't ignore that you were floating in the air, so that is included...probably the biggest symbol in your dream really." Since, you know, one just didn't float.

Flip flip flip flip.

Kurumi was still flipping through her textbook when the Headmistress appeared, catching her attention instantly. A word? With Professor Looneywood? Bet the woman didn't SEE this one coming.

Biting her lip for a moment to hide her smirk, Kurumi shoved her nose back in her textbook and flipped through some more pages. The Headmistress didn't seem too pleased with the scene in front of her, which would only mean good things, yes? Like...telling Professor Elwood her subject was madness? Yes?

"Hello, Headmistress," Kurumi greeted with a small bow of the head. Were they supposed to answer her question? Seemed rude to ignore the woman after she had shouted. "We are practicing Oneiromancy."

Eyes back on her textbook, Kurumi eventually found what she was looking for. "You say floating, right? Not flying? I only ask because there is a distinct different between the two actions," Kurumi noted as she tapped her textbook. "Floating means that you will victoriously overcome obstacles which are seemingly overwhelming you." But then the next bit confused her, talking about water. "Or maybe this only applies to floating in water..." Cue some more flipping. Stupid subject.

And the flying section was LONG. Merlin help her. "Um...no wings, I assume, right?" And he had been in the clouds...so none of this low flying business and he hadn't mentioned trees and what not...so that was out as well. "Well...it could either mean what I said about floating...or marital calamities...unless you saw the sun while you were floating, erm, flying...and then that implies useless worries, as your affairs will succeed despite your fears of evil" Case point? Jory needed to stop worrying about stuff.

VAAAAAAAAAAAAAGUE subject.

Jory bobbed his head but then he remembered the room was darkish so Kurumi won't be able to see him properly. "Yes, floating,'' he said. "I know it sounds weird but it was like when people are in space. Zero gravity.'' Yup, that description should say it all.

The badger was startled to hear the Headmistress's voice so suddenly. The jumped up into a sitting position as she asked what was going on. "Hello, Headmistress,'' he said politely.

He laid back down again with his hands behind his head. "So since I really was floating,'' he said "That means I will overcome obstacles.'' That surely must mean OWLs. Jory was worried sick about the upcoming exams.

Floating...in air and not water...not that the book really specified either. "Alright...so...your dream has an overall influence and theme of overcoming obstacles...so that is probably the underlying issue at present or in your future," Kurumi said, pretending to find all this to be somewhat factual. "Perhaps all the other symbols in your dream are related to that then." Just a thought.

Check off floating from the list of symbols.

Flipping through her book again, Kurumi looked for clouds to see what sort of symbolism there was. "Looks like clouds go hand in hand with your floating," Kurumi nodded. "Assuming that they were white and fluffy and all that...they mean you will be successful after trouble has been your companion...so...you might be struggling now...but not for too much longer."

Probably. Depended on if there was a symbol in his dream that gave any indication of time.

Kurumi looked up for a moment when Tinka flailed a bit more. Really, Kurumi just wanted to hug the house elf and somehow make the broach appear. WHY was the Headmistress so obsessed with her broach? It was...suspicious... and not even pink. Shouldn't she be more interested in pink things? Not green...

But back to the book. Music...music...music... Was jazz harmonious or discordant? Kurumi figured that it wasn't stop and go during his dream and, well, Kurumi rather liked jazz music, so off to read that interpretation as well. "The music is the same too. Pleasure and prosperity. Good things are in your future."

Just when he murmured the question to Louisa he gave a slight jump when the booming voice of the Headmistress echoed in the circular classroom. It was all nice and quiet ~~and sleepy~~ then suddenly a flaming red image pops up in the middle of the floor. It was almost like a dream itself.

Now what were they doing. A quick glance around with various students lying down or slouching in seats in a darkened classroom.... kinda looks like Elwood was promoting sleeping in class right? "We're in a dream interpretation activity Headmistress." Did she have any dreams she wants interpreting? Their textbook is so.... positive with the dream outcomes, surely she should have a listen.

He eyed the house elf all stammering now. Well if he ever questioned if the Headmistress ever came around here... now kinda proves that she does. And again he didnt understand what was the fuss with the brooch. Was it a transfigured creature? At the corner of his eye he caught his own feisty ginger and tried to focus back on deciphering her words from the textbook. She also mentioned the man and flipping the pages over to look up MAN.

Errr right.... did she mention-- or would she even care-- if the creeper was good-looking or not?

I don't think we actually did do anything with the plants." Ethan opened one eye to peek at the girl. What would she make of that?

Hannah gave the ~~boy~~ a rare smile. Well, well, well he did have a name. "It's nice to meet you as well Ethan." she said all prim and proper. She wanted to ask him more questions but now was not the time. She had to cozy up with a complete stranger and tell them something personal about herself. Fantastic.

Thank goodness that he volunteered to go first. "No not at all." She smirked at him when he pulled up a chair. Hannah honestly couldn't blame him though. She was sooo not laying on the floor either. She listened intently as he explained his dream. It sounded like he has problems with doubting himself if you asked Hannah, but what did she know? At least it was a normal dream. Hannah could do normal. She jotted down notes all the while.

"Ok so I definitely think the kids is one symbol." Hannah was flipping through her book to try to find out what the whole kid thing meant. Blink.Blink. "According to this book dreaming of a kid means that you are likely to bring grief to some loving heart." So he was going to be childish and hurt someone innocent? Just like a boy...yup Hannah was jumping to conclusions without knowing him.

Okay, this was starting to get annoying. not only was Sierra in Divination, a subject she thought was a load of hippogriff dung, she also couldn't find a partner. A PARTNER. Of all things, it'd come down to a partner as the reason she couldn't finish this assignment.

"Would anyone who's already finished let me interpret their dream?" she asked, hoping to get someone so she could finish this assignment.

...and then there was a sound. A different sound that they shouldn't hear in the Divination Tower. ...and then the Headmistress BURST through the trapdoor and into the room. Sierra felt like SINGING A PEEVES SONG.

So...trouble now...but it was all going to go away and good things were going to happen soon. At least according to the first symbols Kurumi had identified so far. Attention back to her book, Kurumi flipped through the text until she found a reference of pillow, but didn't stop there. Instead she went to the heart section and skim over it.

Ew...this textbook was...literal. Ew.

Okay, so nothing about heart SHAPED objects, just seeing a real heart. "Pillows represent luxury and comfort...so again...more good things in your future..." Kurumi said as she continued to flip a little more. Unless his hardships now were because of too much luxury and comfort or something like that. "You said you were trying to reach the pillow...but couldn't, right?" Kurumi asked as she paused her flipping. "Is there something that you are wanting? Material or otherwise?" Because not everything had to be an actual object when it came to luxury and comfort. Kurumi had often dreamed about wanting a better relationship with her mother. It had been something she had long for for a long time - her mother's approval - and it was the one 'luxury' that she had never had. Not until...the end at least.

While she waited for an answer, Kurumi continued her flipping and scanning of the 'l' section to find the meaning of locket.

Elise blushed fiercely as Professor Elwood clapped so very enthusiastically. She hadn't expected that reaction, but it was better than getting yelled at. Like a million times better. Oh, the brooch.

Nodding, Elise bent down to search for the brooch. Nada. Squinting, she looked again. Once she was certain that the brooch wasn't there, she scribbled the few details of her dream that she remembered before looking for a partner. She'd taken too long to remember and almost everyone was partnered up already.

Oh, look. Sierra wasn't taken yet. Moving quickly over towards the prefect, Elise shifted awkwardly between her two feet. "Do you still need a partner?" she asked, trying not to die yet. Divination didn't kill, as far as Elise knew.

Hannah read and re-read her notes that she jotted down. She was having a difficult time thinking of what another symbol would be. "Do you remember anything else about the dream?" Anything symbolic maybe? If not Hannah was just going to have to read between the lines ~~or make stuff up~~

She flipped frantically through the book trying to find something that went with the dream. Was he feeling sad maybe? She was just going to have to think outside of the box on this one. She thought the whole plant thing would be a symbol but she couldn't find anything about plants in the bloody book. She was starting to get a bit frustrated...Hannah did not like failure. She took a moment to listen to what everybody else was saying...for inspiration only of course.

So during the first person's dream interpretation you can use a post to retell the dream, and your partner can interpret their three symbols in 4 posts, and then when things swtich the first interpreter can use their last post to retell their dream and the first dream person can use four posts to interpret their partner's dream.

You will have roughly 48 hours to get this task done.

Sarah scanned the room with her eyes, looking for the brooch. The stuffiness in the air was not conducive to Heat-sensitive Sarah and she was getting slightly irritable. She then looked under her desk and all over for it, yet in vain... it was no where to be found.

It was then that she realized the fact that she was probably the ony one in the room without a partner... Initially she had thought that perhaps someone would approach her, yet in vain...

a deep sigh escaped her lips. "Anyone want to be my partner?" then as an after thought seeing students finishing up. "please" she said almost pleadingly.

Louisa crossed her legs and leaned forward to see the notes Vickers was copying from the dream book. It was already a bit dark, though, and having her shadow on the boy's parchment probably didn't help so she leaned back away to give him some more light...

...BAM! The Headmistress barged into their class. Louisa spun half-way on her chair toward the red-head woman.

Everyone started explaining to her so the Ravenclaw kept quiet and turned her attention back to Vickers and his notes. She pulled the notes closer to her and re-read the things he just said out loud. "I didn't expect it to be a happy interpretation." she consoled herself as she sulked, "It just disappears suddenly. Like moving from one scene to another without making any sense." Her eyes were focused on the parchment in the boy's hand even if she couldn't read anything from where she sat. "Let's just assume it's that bloody Apparecium article." SIGH. "Running. I was running from danger. Alone." Go.

Ethan snapped the other eye open and straightened up a little in his seat as Hannah began evaluating his dream. He nodded as she mentioned kids - that did seem to be one key element of his dream. The 15 year old watched the girl as she flipped through the dream book, curious about what the images might mean. His inquisitive expression turned a bit more somber as he pursed his lips in response to what she read. Bring grief to a loving heart? "That doesn't sound good at all," he said with a slight frown.

Hopefully the next parts would be better... but somehow he didn't think so. From what he had heard from the book already as the class had read from it earlier, it didn't seem to have much in the way of good news. Ethan was about to move on to the next symbol when the trapdoor flew open... another interruption? His eyes widened slightly as he saw it was the headmistress. Merlin, was that woman scary, he thought, as she began to bellow... and was that elf still here? The boy grimaced slightly as the creature began to hit herself. Ethan, doing his best to shut out the commotion around him, shook his head gently to Hannah's question. "No... I don't really remember anything else about it," he said after a moment's thought. "But I would guess that maybe the main symbols of the parts I do remember would be the kids... um, school teacher... and I guess leaves," he added, trying to be helpful as he noticed her growing frustration. "You already looked up kids... Are the other two in there?" Hopefully they didn't predict something awful.

Cardigan flipped forward in the book, going back towards the F's. Next on the list was Family! There! She had found it on the very first page, right near the top. Easy enough! "And this is what it says about family: 'To dream of one's family as harmonious and happy, is significant of health and easy circumstances; but if there is sickness or contentions, it forebodes gloom and disappointment.' Yet for you, I think it's the sickness and contentions one." Sorry Belle!

She grabbed a chunk of the pages, and flipped! Amazingly enough, she had flipped back to the exact first page of the O's, then meaning Ocean would be on the next page. And yes it was! This is what it said... "And, finally, this is what it says about Oceans! It's kinda long, so I'll just read the part that applies to you: 'To be far out on the ocean, and hear the waves lash the ship, forebodes disaster in business life, and quarrels and stormy periods in the household.' That doesn't really work so well, but it's better than the others." The others wouldn't work at all!!

Closing her textbook and setting it aside, she said, "What do ya think? Ready to switch?"

Belle was impressed to know about her dream.
"It does make sense about what i am feeling." Belle said contemplating about all the information she was given. "Wow i am very impressed with it all, i truly am. What about your dream Cardigan? What did you dream about? And let me interpret it all." Belle asked with a smile.

She smiled and thought, Eliza and Ella. Sounds like a cutesy sitcom. Or maybe Ella and Eliza sounds better. She pulled her head back from the clouds and said, "Sure, you can go first."

She listened to Ella's dream and wrote down a few keywords to look up in their textbooks. When she was finished, Eliza said "Well that dream didn't sound so bad." She smiled. "I could go for some cookies and hot cocoa," she paused "well if it weren't so hot in here that is." She looked down at her notes. "Okay, so you mentioned a sibling, flying on a broom, a dog, and cookies... Oh and you can probably sit up now, unless you're comfy down there," she said, laughing a little.

She flipped through the pages of her book until she found something of use to them. "Well it doesn't have sibling, but it has brothers so I guess that will have to do." She shrugged and began reading, " It says if you see your brothers in your dream, full of energy, you will have cause to rejoice at your own, or their good fortune; but if they are poor and in distress, or begging for assistance, you will be called to a deathbed soon, or some dire loss will overwhelm you or them." Realizing what she'd just said she looked up wide-eyed at Ella. "Gosh, well your brother ended up fine even though he fell, so I'm sure yours is about good fortune."

Ella nodded, smiling a half-smile. "Yeah, better than a nightmare." But not as exciting as some of the dreams she'd had in the past. Meh. Oh well. Oh! And Eliza liked cookies and hot chocolate? This made Ella smile. "Me too. I could always go for those! But...you're right, it is quite hot in here."So maybe Ella would've picked ice cream for a treat instead, if the choice were given.

The third year smiled at the first part of Eliza's interpretation, recalling that Caleb had been excited at first in her dream, wanting to fly so badly. Her mouth dropped open at the next part, though. O___O MEEP. But Caleb had been upset when Dino came out and messed up their lesson. Did that mean...Oh Merlin. "I..." Blink.Blink. "Yeah...yeah, I'm going to go with the good fortune one too." Because the other interpretation scared Ella to death. "I um...go on...please."

She noticed his frown and tried to cheer him up. "Maybe you should have been in Slytherin after all." she said with a wink trying to lighten the mood a bit. Anyways Ethan really shouldn't take too much to heart in Divination because the subject was rubbish. At least she was one symbol down.

Hannah contined to ignore the new scary head lady. Mental that one is! Then Ethan came through with some help. What a good and handy claw he was. "Yes of course. Thanks!" Why was Hannah being so nice? This was so not her. He was nice and helpful though and he wasn't a puff so she pushed the thought to the back of her mind for now.

She flipped through her book until she found school teacher. "It says here that dreaming of a teacher means you enjoy learning and amusements in a quiet way." Hannah rolled her eyes. Not because it was a bad thing if Ethan wanted to be a teacher or anything, but the answer was kinda obvious. Further proof that Divination was rubbish. "That's not so bad!" Better than having an evil heart and all.

Why don't you go make some cook--" she was about to say cookies for herself and the class but she began to call her the Headmisses. Oh how cute, she knew that she, Calista, was in charge of the class and by default her since she was in there but suddenly it became apparent that wasn't what she meant.

What would she even need it for, green NEVER had looked good on her and she rarely wore brooches. Not her style.

Tinka began to profess the truth about not seeing the thing up here and Callie nodded along with her. The question was then raised of what they were doing. Professor Elwood looked around and saw the scene from the Headmistress's point of view; kids were lying all over the floor, chairs and desks overturned to look for the brooch and she was standing above all of them with a House Elf. "Um, yeah, we are doing Oneiromancy, Divination by dream interpretations." the blonde said, twisting her bangles around her wrist.

Speaking of her class. "Students, keep up the good work. I am hearing some excellent ideas on the symbols your classmates have seen in there dreams. Please continue working and you should be on the second person's dream by now, unless you were a late starter." She nodded their way before turning back to the red head.

OOC: So because of events happening in the classroom and the Database error that I have heard has effected a bunch of you all, I have chosen to extend this lesson until tomorrow evening (EST) at around 5 or 6 pm.

"I was swimming.. in an underwater city, and there were unicorns with me, but they were like my people." stop to que soft giggle "I was their queen or something.. and then a giant shark appeared and swam by me adn i was scared but stayed strong for my underwater unicorn people breath "then i swam into i guess what was my house and there was no water in it but there were crazy frogs everywhere LARGE frogs. i didnt seem to mind them though... then i woke up." she opened one eye and looked at her waiting for her response to that

Elliot had her notebook out, her quill posed...but she didn't write anything. Instead, as the dream went on....her face had squished up into a disgusted face..."Merlin, that is the dumbest dream I have EVER heard, Ariana." She said with a scowl. "Is that even a real dream?" It had to be. no one could come up with something THAT stupid themselves...eeerrggh.

"But...I guess the three items would be...underwater...unicorns...and...frogs." Right? Or giant frogs, if that was an option. Hmm. Her brunette partner was weird, Elliot decided. Maxwell's best friend and her...sort of friend. Was. WEIRD.
