The chill November air was definately hanging around the Divination Tower but once you ascended the ladder into the classroom the heat from the firegrate, being trapped in the room with the window-coverings, assured you this class was definately going to be a stifling one. The room was dark, apart from a few candles here and there so watch your step as you find you way to a table.
Professor Elwood was no where to be seen but you can bet she will be there soon so there had better be no funny business, besides her parrot, Galileo was there watching.
OCC: Come on in and take a seat. The lesson won't start for a while so there's plenty of time to post. Prof. Elwood doesn't appear to be there yet but don't try anything, Prefects will be in charge until she shows up. Enjoy.

REM?
Yeah, yeah. Of course he had heard of that. And not to mention everyone in the class seemed to be knowing a lot about it as well. As he listened to the each of them, Richard thought if he could experience the REM sleep in this class but the way the professor woman reacted to the two sleeping students kinda made it impossible to think of the possibility to experience that.
But it did not mean he could not day-dream.
Letting out a quiet sigh he started to imagine...things.
Yeah, day dreaming was good.

Cassia nodded weakly at what Elwood was saying ,she was able to understand half of what was said which was a great achievement. She needed to celebrate when this lesson ended. Divination always seemed to need concentration a lot of it because whatever they were learning was never used in Cassia's life. And she doubted if other students used this or anyone! Except for the blond professor who seemed to be enjoying all this. Then two students were splashed! Cassia actually envied them, she could use a splash to make her refreshed. But it might sound weird if she asked the professor to splash her as well, no?
She wasn't really bored but she was having fun yet.For Cassia, unless they were going to sleep and have awesome dreams then tell each other about them...Cassia wasn't much interested. But wait, subconscious ? That was something interesting. She always wondered what's happening in her subconscious.
Though she had never heard of this REM. And everyone else seemed to know about it. Eh...were they supposed to know about this. Cassia was pretty sure they never learnt about it last term. Or did they? Hopefully not because Cassia only shook her head weakly and tried not to make eye contact with Professor Elwood.

Callie listened as the young Lion talked about her idea of dream divination, nodding the whole time. "Very good, although just because somehting has to do with what has happened to you in the previous days doesn't mean you can completely rule it out as being prophetic, you could be experiencing a premonition of something that will happen in result of whatever action you already performed. Don't rule anything out just yet." Elwood said with a smile.
Professor Elwood done her best to reflect and work on each of the student's who spoke up's answer and when she was done with it she stood and walked towards Elijah's and Nigel's desks and pointed her wand at them, sending a stream of cold water to spray them both awake. "Now Mr. Wilde and Mr. Barrington, just because we are talking about things that happen when you are asleep does not mean that I want you to go to sleep during my lesson or to be rude and ignore your classmates as they speak. Disrupt my class again and you will have a points loss and perhaps detention." Yes she knew she made the disruption but she was the boss-lady.
"Alright, great answers everyone. It's clear that the majority of you all understand the basics of Oneiromancy which means you all either pay attention when your past professors rambled on about other forms of the subject or you have read ahead in your textbooks which, either way makes me proud of you all, good job." She crossed one leg over the other as she sat in her chair and thought for a moment where she was going to go next.
Oh, some things the students mentioned themselves. "Mr. Vanderbilt mentioned the idea of the subconscience in his answer which is where I want to start. Scientifically we know that dreams happen when the mind enters the REM cycle. Does anyone know what that is, what REM stands for, and can explain breifly what we know about it?" She wondered if she expected them to get that technical but they nest learn upfront that the subject was not all smoke and mirrors.
Sarah had read all about it from the place where she had gotten her previous answer. Muggles did know a lot after all. "REM stands for Rapid Eye Movement. We have periods of REM about five times during our sleep. We usually havee it towards morning though. Ever night about two hours of an adults sleep is spent in an REM phase. When we are in an REM phase our neurons in our brains work the same as they would when we were awake. During REM sleep is when people dream. Our heart rates go up during this time" There had been so much more Sarah had read about REM yet she seemed to be unable to recall more at this minute. All of this she gogt from muggle sources
REM? What was REM? Jen thought about it
She raised her hand
"Has something to do with dreams right professor?"
Had the girl not been listening to any of the lesson so far, or missed the bloody flames and fairy dust flying about the room?!
"Yes, dear. The ENTIRE lesson has something to do with dreams, please try to pay closer attention to what I and your classmates say." No rudeness was present in her tone but the Slytherin needed to step up her game.

The twelve-year-old wrote down 'Rapid Eye Movement' into his notebook, but it meant nothing to him. And he couldn't be bothered to listen to students, so he waited for the professor's legit explanation.
Theo hated not knowing stuff. But when it was Divination stuff, it was always gonna be the case. Turns out it wasn't as easy as ooooohing and ahhhhing in front of a crystal ball.
It was no use...... "I don't get it." He muttered, more to himself really.
Callie was ready to move on when she heard the little Slytherin, Theodore or something like that mumble something about not getting it. It was natural, he was young and the idea of REM sleep and advanced functions of the brain was not something the normal 12 to 14 year old bothered themselves to learn.
"Theo dear, don't worry yourself too much with this REM business. We are moving on and will be focussing on simpler and more fun things with our upcoming activity." She winked at him and went on to the next student's question.

Remember what she read from this Muggle book about dreams and sleep. REM is actually an acronym. "REM is the acronym for Rapid Eye Movement. It also means paradoxical sleep."
"Excellent point. I like that you said that last bit about paradoxical sleep, because it's funny to think about. We go to sleep as we assume in order to regain energy but then we go into such a rapid and fast-paced process that it seems sort of counter-productive." Yeah, the brain was a very tricky little bugger.

It is said that its during this time that the brain consolidates memories, which is likely the reason why some of your dreams are influenced by people and events that happened to you during waking hours."
And having said that prompted him to ask this "Professor, what Theo said about déjà vu—how does that happen? Specially when you find yourself in a déjà vu moment and you’ve never been to that place or met certain people before?” Cant chalk it to past experiences because everything was totally new.

She raised her hand and said, "Professor, I'd really like to know more about deja vu too!" She gave a small smile to the boys who'd asked about it, hoping they wouldn't be annoyed with her. She just thought they might get to learn more if multiple students seemed interested.
Professor Elwood listened intently as Vickers asked his question about deja vu. It was a very valid question and when another student asked about it as well she couldn't very well pretend she hadn't heard him, now could she?
"Mr. Vicker's that is a good question, however I don't have a 100% full answer for you. Deja vu is another mysterious phenomena that happens in the brain that we don't fully understand just yet. There are theories however," which tied into her lesson of Oneiromancy, "that suggest that the feelings of familiarity that occur in places or situations where you've never been or experienced before are in relation to dreams you've had in or about things or places that are similar to the actual experience. Does that make sense?" When trying to explain complicated ideas such as deja vu, wording becomes tricky.

Thinking of the answer to the question Minerva put her hand up. "Well professor Dream Divination is when we look at our dreams to help us tell the future. Some of our dreams could be messages of things to come, whether it be good, bad, or maybe even about someone close to us." she was hoping she was at least close if nothing else.
Minerva listened to all the answers and then couldn't help a quiet giggle when the professor woke up the sleeping students. She couldn't believe some of the behaviors this year. What was going on with all these students, but she did not want to think about that.. no it just made her crazy thinking how behind her house was now from all the weird things going on with students. Back to thinking about dreams, sleep, and divinations, yes that was what they were talking about.
Putting up her hand Minerva wasn't completely sure if she knew exactly what REM meant but it wasn't going to hurt to try at least, 'Professor Rem is a sleeping cycle where your eyes move back and forth. If it is the time you find your dreams, then it must be the time where you are sleeping in the deepest sleep and maybe not able to be woken up as easy." Yes, that sounded at least part right. Hopefully it didn't sound to weird or wrong.

Yes, the subconscious, she pondered, it really all has to start there doesn’t it? Listening to the rest of the professors explanation, she shot her hand up in the air to answer the next question.
“REM stands for rapid eye movement, Professor.” She had looked this up before so she was pretty sure she was right. “It’s when your mind is at its deepest level of sleep and relaxation, I think. That’s when you start to dream.” She sat up straight in her seat, quill in hand to take more notes - eager to hear more on this subject.

Yeah yeah...it was wishy washy and not well thought out. But, one could make such an argument for this entire subject.... soooooooooooooo....
But class had moved on to something more scientific and Kurumi was more willing to put in effort here, which is why she raised her hand again. "REM stands for rapid eye movement sleep which, as the name implies, is a stage of our sleep where our eyes are moving around a lot. More dreaming occurs at this stage along with bodily movements. You also have a faster pulse and your breathing increases as well." She paused for a moment, glancing around the room and wondering if there were any mice around. "Most complex dreaming occurs during REM sleep, but people who have been blind from birth do not experience REM sleep...or so I have read."

On to the questions...
"It stands for Rapid Eye Movement," Sierra said, raising her hand. "...and it happens when our subconscious mind takes over, and it sort of replays thoughts and ideas we have."

Raising her hand Nerida answered "REM stands for Rapid eye movement. REM is the normal stage of sleep which is characterized by random rapid movement of the eyes. Um, I believe that is classified into two categories tonic and phasic. More dreaming happens when we are in the stage of REM.

A lot about it, it seemed as the quiet Ravenclaw raised her hand and began to speak...
"REM stands for rapid eye movement. It occurs when we sleep and, as the name implies, it involves the rapid movement of the eyes. It doesn't happen during the entire time we are asleep, but occurs on and off throughout sleep, and it tends to occur more often the longer we are asleep. During this time is when we dream the most, and those dreams tend to be more vivid. The outer body also experiences a sort of paralysis during REM, even though the heart rate is increased, and it can be difficult to wake someone up during it."
PHEW! Okay, that was probably way more than enough, though Silvia was tempted to make a few more points about sleep stages; but she had talked enough for the moment. Rarely did she give such detailed answers in any class. Clearly she had been reading too much psychology of late; her current reading obsession it seemed.

He remembered reading about REM recently. Just before the holidays were over, in fact. He raised his hand. "REM means rapid eye movement. That means our eyes move faster than usual. And more dreams also happen at that time.''
Other than that, he couldn't remember anything more.

As the last student was replied to the next question was raised and after hearing it, Jasmine felt a bit more comfortable. A question about something that will be answered with a single straight forward fact.
Siting up straighter and clearing her throat slightly, she raised her hand and answered," REM or Rapid Eye Movement, is a state of sleep where one's dreams are said to first occur. Normally this can last 90 to 120 min on average per night and seems to be most active in the morning hours. An adult tends to spend 20-25% of their night in REM sleep while a newborn baby can spend as much as 80%. There seem to be many theories of different REM sleep cycles based on memory, simulation, and the like."
Jasmine paused to take a breath and in that time relaized she was most likely rambling on the subject and felt the need to add, "Sorry Professor, my Aunt Aurora has an extensive medical library and I read through quite a few of her texts over the summer and I just happened to remember some facts about REM." Blushing slightly she looked down at her notes and fiddled with her quill.
She had not meant to spout out all those facts but she felt comfortable with answering this question. Facts she could do. She just hoped that taking this class would not hurt her marks much. She was aware that at this subject she was a little out of her element, especially with not even knowing what Divination was really about. She was willing to give it a chance though, even with her doubts on the actual merit of the practice. So with a look of determination, Jasmine decides to learn as much as she can about it and hold off from discounting anything. Besides, her Aunt always said that ignorance is no one's best friend.

He has finished his answer and this time was sure that his answer was correct. Since there class today is on dreams then they will be today learning about (REM) that is Rapid eye movement sleep.

"Professor i think REM sleep stands for Rapid Eye Movement and what i know about it is it has three stages in which you fall asleep. Back to the class, though! The Ravenclaw shot her hand up in the air and tried not to sound repetitive, "REM is the second main phase of our sleeping, professor. Like what everyone else said it stands for Rapid Eye Movement, which occurs after 90 minutes of going to sleep." She leaned her chin on her hand and added, "The length of this REM stage declines as we grow older. So it's highest when we're infants, almost."

A part of him wanted to confirm that there little creatures running around but then he would miss a class and he didn't want that either. He'd actually cowered away as the fire from earlier that went over the ceiling and to the wall had reminded him of the staircase at his old house eight years ago.
His cheeks flushed red as the Professor escorted him to his original seat and he sat down. The blast of fire was out and the candles as well so hopefully he could concentrate on the lesson.
REM? He had seen that word before, hadn't he seen it at the library when he was studying together with Gwen? "REM stands for ...Real Eye movie?"
he was right, right?! And that was the only thing he knew.

Calista was actually quite suprised that so many of them had knew at least bits and pieces about the process of REM sleep, it was a rather scientific idea. She was surprised, yes but that didn't mean she wasn't also glad they had at least some prior knowledge.
"Yes, the things you all said about the REM cycle and the sleep associated with it are correct." She flicked her wand at the board, listing some of the things they mentioned.
Quote:
Divination Lesson Board
Characteristics/Facts about REM Cycle and Sleeping
+ Rapid eye movement
+ Associated with deep sleep
+ Possible body paralysis or stronger inability to move
+ Doesn't account for all sleep
+ Highest possibility for dreams
The blonde Professor turned back to the students to add to what they all said. "The REM cycle, is all of the things you all said but also more. We know very little about it technically but that is why it is so fascinating. We haven't found any actual scientific reason why humans sleep and how come we are more rested after experiencing this deep sleep during the REM cycle." She let that little bit of info sink in as she straightened a wrinkle in her skirt. "The subconscious is a very powerful thing and since human beings can't even harness the full potential of their brains it is no wonder that we are capable of REM and dreams."
"But back to actual dreams in Divination now that we know where they occur," because you couldn't study Egyptians and all of their culture, curses, pyramids and the like without at least touching on the country itself--same with dreams and the brain. "Like you all said before we are going to be using individual aspects from our dreams in order to interpret what exactly they may hold in store for us. So," she stood and walked over to a cabinet which upon opening it, revealed Dream Oracle books. She levitated a copy to each of them.
"Please open your books to the section that defines individual aspects of dreams and we can have a little bit of fun before starting the day's ativity." Yes, for Divination nerds like Callie Elwood, this would be VERY fun. "What I want each of you to do is to randomly find an object or action listed in this section and then raise your hand and tell the class what it is and what it's implications upon being found in a dream are."
Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something...
Minerva opened the book to a random spot. Looking at the book she couldn't help but laugh out loud, really that was the place she opened. Putting up her hand she had to share this one, because it was 1. interesting and 2. crazy at the same time. "Professor I opened to the H section and came across Hairy Hands." she tried to hold in a giggle at this thought, "It says that if you dream of hairy hands then you are going to intrigue on innocent people, and that you will find you alert enemies who will be working to foretell your design."
Nigel was enjoying his awesome dream about dragons. When he suddenly shocked awake by this cold water. He opens his eyes in shock. He had no idea that Professor Elwood would do something like this. Wasn't this class about dreams. So why can't he dream. Nigel felt it was a fair question. Even thought he was shocked awake. The water feels amazing in this hot room. He would thank Professor Elwood if he was sure he would not get into trouble.
He turns to his right and sees Elijah right next to him and he got wet too. Well maybe he was dreaming also. Nigel asks him. "So what were you dreaming about?". Nigel then turns his attention back to the Professor. It seemed he missed the first question thinking about how he got wet. But he could now answer the second question. He opened up his book and turned to a random page and picked a word. Kangaroo. Well it was an awesome word.
Nigel raised his hand throwing water everywhere. "Professor, I chose Kangaroo. It means that i will outwit a wily enemy and if a kangaroo attacks me, my reputation will be in jeopardy." But if i kill one, i will succeed." Awesome!. Now Nigel wished his dream was about kangaroos instead of dragon.

Oooooooh! They were doing random stuff now. Like opening their textbooks and finding said random stuff and randomly reciting it to the class. Okay! Elise could do that. It seemed easy. Maybe she wasn't as bad a Divination as she thought?
So Elise opened her textbook and opened to the chapter indicated by Professor Elwood. Teapots. Oooooh!
"Teapots mean sudden news that will likely distress you," she grinned. Ooooh, there was a song about teapots, right? "I'm a little teapot, short and stout. Here is my haaaaaandle and here is my spout."
What just came over her? Blushing, Elise sat back down. Nothing happened, nope. Nothing strange here. Look away, please. Thank you. Let's all just pretend Elise hadn't done that.
Okay...she shot Hannah another raised eyebrow look...this was so...different. Elliot didn't pass judgment quite yet...Divination was WEIRD.
She sighed as she opened the book...well...she should randomly select something? Heh. she looked under the E section...E for Elliot...and then searched in vain for an interesting word...that was random, right? Elliot thought so..
OH!
Emperor! Elliot was an Empress! But they didn't have that word...so she picked Emperor...she raised her hand. "Professor, If you dream about an emperor...well it says if you meet the emperor of where you journey to in your dream then you have a loooong journey that won't bring either pleasure...or knowledge..." Then why the heck would someone make this said journey, hmm?!?
It made no sense to the fourteen-year-old.

Dreams...this was sure to be an interesting class.
So they had to look through the dream dictionary. Interesting. Addie randomly opened the page and saw that she was in the T's. Closing her eyes she randomly poked the page. Tadpole. What was that? Hmmmm...Addie finally remembered that tadpoles were baby froggies. Reading the description she took in all the information carefully!
Once she had finished her reading she raised her hand. "Professor, I choose tadpole, in other words a baby froggie," Addie said clarifying in case other people didn't know what it was, after all Addie didn't remember at first. "If you dream of a tadpole it means that there will be uncertain speculation which will uneasiness in business." Addie debated whether or not to continue reading since the next part didn't apply to everyone. But she did, "Also if a woman sees tadpoles in clear water it foretells that she will have a relationship with a wealthy man who is also immoral." There we go!
"Please open your books to the section that defines individual aspects of dreams and we can have a little bit of fun before starting the day's ativity." Jasmine took her floating text and gently opened it to the section Professor Elwood dictated. Curiously, she scanned through the pages and was about ot pick a total random topic, but at the last minute paused to think. Biting her lip she frowned slightly and wondered if she should look up something from an actual dream she has had. Deciding she would she thought, just for the novelty of it of course...its not like I actually believe it or anything... just curious is all.
Decision made and rationalized, Jasmine raised her hand, "Professor Elwood, I picked if one were to dream of the dark. The text explains, and I quote, that "to dream of darkness overtaking you on a journey, augurs ill for any work you may attempt, unless the sun breaks through before the journey ends, then faults will be overcome. To lose your friend, or child, in the darkness, portends many provocations to wrath. Try to remain under control after dreaming of darkness, for trials in business and love will beset you.""
After saying her answer, a slight shiver passed through her body despite the oppressive heat in the dim room. Frowning down at her text, Jasmine wasn't sure if she liked this topic...no, not a all.

NodNodNod.
Cassia reached for the copy of the book and opened it browsing it quickly. Darn no pictures. And actually it was expected because what kinds of pictures would be in a dream book? Um…sleeping people maybe?
Finally! They were gonna do something! Cassia straightened and started looking through the pages more closely. She liked having something to do other than listening. Hmm……. Stopping at a page, the second-year Snake shot her arm up in the air a bit too enthusiastically. "Professor!" She said. "I have chosen an Owl." She started automatically standing because you know she was short. NOT SO short but not so tall either. So standing was more comfortable for her.
"Ahem…To hear the solemn, unearthly sound of the muffled voice of the owl…" Cassia's voice immediately fell from its enthusiastic level "warns dreamers that d-d-death, "GULP. that doesn't sound good " That death creeps closely in the wake of health and joy……" Cassia swallowed hard at that. " Precaution should be taken that life is not ruthlessly exposed to his unyielding grasp. Bad tidings of the absent will surely follow this dream." Cassia felt the color drain out of her face. Why did she choose this section again? Oh and it wasn't over just yet. " Um… To see a dead owl, denotes a narrow escape from desperate illness or deathhh. " Le PAUSE "And to see an owl, foretells that you will be secretly maligned and be in danger from enemies." SILENCE.
Cassia kept staring at the words for a long minute before sitting down. Somehow she had imagined that the implications would be cheerful. Like you're gonna win ten thousands galleons! Or so many achievements are awaiting for you in the upcoming years!
The twelve-years old looked up at the Professor in widened eyes and tried to swallow the lump in her throat before managing to say." I don't want to dream anymore." It came out like a whisper actually.

"What I want each of you to do is to randomly find an object or action listed in this section and then raise your hand and tell the class what it is and what it's implications upon being found in a dream are."[/color]
Jen secretly rolled her eyes. Not in front of the professor. Note to self, pay attention more and don't answer questions End of pep talk. Turning to the right page, and decided to hush up for the rest of the lesson. Mwahahahaha!

Notes notes notes notes...Kurumi LIKED taking notes on this sort of thing because it was more scientific and therefore not guesswork like...
....
What they had been asked to do next. Right. Of course. And Professor Elwood knew she was just encouraging Elijah by making him all wet, right? Weren't there things called wet t-shirt contests where....
Kurumi blushed at her own thoughts and stuffed her nose back in her textbook. The first few items she selected only made her blush MORE as they reminded her of certain events and feelings from the summer...so there was no way she was going to explain those.
So, it was back to flipping through her book to random page, closing her eyes, and pointing at something. "I picked a key," she said after raising her hand. "It means unexpected changes. Losing or lost keys in a dream mean unpleasant things will effect you and push you in one direction. Finding keys means positive things, mainly domestically and with business." There may have been a small blush there. "Broken keys represent separation of some kind. Keys being actively used in dreams, unlocking and locking doors, also have significance - especially when in the hands of a girl." Which was when Kurumi stopped talking and blushed like crazy since she had just had a dream where she had locked a door....
....
*BLUSH*
She was NOT ready to think about that sort of thing now. Not to mention Treyen told her not until she was 30.

Emmanuelle reached for the book and randomly opened it to a page near the back, closing her eyes and randomly pointing at a word on the page. "I picked 'zoo'. It says that 'to dream of visiting a zoo denotes that you will have a varied fortune. Sometimes it seems that enemies will overpower you and again you stand in the front rank of success. You will also gain knowledge by travel and sojourn in foreign countries. Quote, unquote," she replied, reading straight from the book. Yeah, this is what she didn't get about Dream Divination. Couldn't dreaming of visiting a zoo just mean you wanted to go to the zoo? Noooo, not in this subject. It had to mean 'a varied fortune'. Really? Life's like a zoo instead of a box of chocolates? She guessed so.....

The blonde Professor turned back to the students to add to what they all said. "The REM cycle, is all of the things you all said but also more. As the Ravenclaw listened to the Divination Maven he gave a slow nod in understanding. Its true that some of his deja vu dreams were of actions that he has done before-- like meeting someone new-- but the specifics like the clarity of who that person is or the place or even the circumstances of the meeting, most of the time they were completely new, which didnt make any sense logically. Unless one starts considering precognition...
... but thats getting way too far from the topic at hand.
At the Professor's prompt Vickers opens his textbook and starts leafing through the dream definitions, as he goes through the list of words he had vague connections to he was getting the strange feeling that a lot of them were rather... disappointing?... sad?..... morbid? A common trend with himself or with just this book in general?
Ok so the Professor said randomly. He closed the chapter, let the leaf edges run between his fingers and finally plopped that page open. Gosh would you look at that, he does dream of this often, although he has always thought it was because of something that happened to him as a toddler. He raised his hand as he replied "Professor, it says 'to dream that you sustain a fall, and are much frightened, denotes that you will undergo some great struggle, but will eventually rise to honor and wealth; but if you are injured in the fall, you will encounter hardships and loss of friends." In his dreams he wasnt frightened, if anything it was almost like flying, but his grown up brain knows now that wasnt the case. And yes indeed there were struggles (still are) but that it would be followed by rising to honor and wealth? Well.... he hopes so.

Jory jotted down notes. He would probably forget what was said about REM when he left class.
Now, he listened to the instructions Professor Elwood gave them. He flipped his text to the page. He raised his hand after a few moment. "I choose the parrot,'' the boy said. "This represents gossip among friends but for a woman, her boyfriend will think her rather nagging. And if there's a dream about a dead parrot, you've lost a friend.''
Maybe he should use this text to figure out what his dreams meant.
Surya loved picking up things in random. That's what he thought. But he worries himself so much as he wants to pick the best thing available. So he finally picks up a BASKET! He stands up in attention and begins, "Professor, I have picked up a basket". "If we dream of carrying a basket the consequences depend upon the state of the basket. If it is full it means unqualified sucess. But if it is empty it represents discontent and sorrow."
"But back to actual dreams in Divination now that we know where they occur," because you couldn't study Egyptians and all of their culture, curses, pyramids and the like without at least touching on the country itself--same with dreams and the brain. Ariana opened her book randomly and landed on the word Uniform She raised her hand and when called upon spoke up "Professor I landed on the Word Uniform And it says here that 'To see a uniform in your dream, denotes that you will have influential friends to aid you in obtaining your desires. For a young woman to dream that she wears a uniform, foretells that she will luckily confer her favors upon a man who appreciated them, and returns love for passion. If she discards it, she will be in danger of public scandal by her notorious love for adventure. To see people arrayed in strange uniforms, foretells the disruption of friendly relations with some other Power by your own government. This may also apply to families or friends. To see a friend or relative looking sad while dressed in uniform, or as a soldier, predicts ill fortune or continued absence.'" Anddd breath. Ariana looked up

Anya absentmindedly flipped her book open. S. She flipped a few pages before her eye caught the word strawberry. Yeah. She wasn't going to be able to look past that. She loved strawberries. Especially the chocolate ones.
She lazily half-raised her hand. "I picked strawberries." Because she could. And she loved them. And she probably had dreamed about eating them at some point.
"They represent something that you really want." she said skimming the page. "Like a wish. Or something that makes you happy."
"And if you dream about eating one..." her eyes stopped at the next few words. She cleared her throat a little. "Requited love." Yeah. "So. It makes sense. Love is something a lot of people want. So eating a strawberry means that that love is returned."
And then she focused on blocking the dream she had completely out of her mind. Because now... it was at the forefront of it.

Dreams, they were going to talk about dreaaaaaaaaaaaams.
Beezus just hoped she wasn't going to fall asleep and practically carry out their topic. Professor Elwood elaborated what REM was, adding some information that the Ravenclaw quickly jotted down on her notes. Scribble. Scribble.
..and deja vu? That is when you experience an event and feel like you've gone through the same situation in the past right? She had those, sometimes. But since there wasn't anything the Professor could add to what they already know about it, Beezus decided to let the matter settled at that and didn't go in pursuit for questions.
When Dream Oracle books were handed over and they were asked to randomly select an object or action to share with the class along with its meaning, the fourth year's fingers flipped open the book. N. Her random selection landed on the entries that started with N, and to add more randomness to her already random choice, Beezus closed her eyes, allowed her point finger to run down the page and stopped when she felt like it. "Needle." The was where her finger was pointing.
Hand up, "Professor, I've got needle here. Actually, it has various corresponding meanings to how it appears in a dream. For instance, it states here that if one dreams of using a needle, it is a warning of approaching affliction, in which you will suffer keenly the loss of sympathy, which is rightfully yours. There's still more here." She only nodded, but didn't say anything more. Instead, she read the rest of the entry silently. To dream of threading a needle, denotes that you will be burdened with the care of others than your own household. To look for a needle, foretells useless worries. To find a needle, foretells that you will have friends who will appreciate you. To break one, signifies loneliness and poverty. Hmm. Hmm.

Tag flipped through his textbook and looked for an object that he found rather interesting. After some quick scanning he came upon 'letter's.' Half of it seemed good and the other half seemed not so good. Oh well, Tag choose that as his object. "Professor, I chose a 'letter'. Yeah, it says here that letters can either mean illness or death of a relative, can bring you misfortunes and trouble." Tag said raising his hand and answering as he peridodically checked the text. In fact a letter seemed mostly horrible. Really really bad and he was beginning to think that he didn't chose the right object. Now that he thought about it he hadn't received any letters from his parents or Saxon, his sister, asking how he was doing. He had gotten nothing. An now his choice was making him worry. "Professor, a letter seems like its all bad news." Tag continued with a much more intrigued scared face, his eyes growing bigger as he stared at his professor."How come everything for a letter seems so horrible?" Great now his mind was all over the place.
Louisa picked the book when it hovered near her face and plopped it down on the table. As Elwood explained the 'fun' they were supposed to have before the actual activity, Louisa was already flipping through the pages, the desire to understand her dreams slash nightmares growing rapidly. She blocked out her surroundings, focusing on the book in front of her. She looked at Man, Fire, but none satisfied her so she went back to Hair. Elwood said it should be random but nothing is random with Louisa when it came to dreams so yeah..
She snapped out of it when it was Vickers' turn to choose something and he spoke of falling. Louisa's gave him a sad smile as he talked, and she wished she could hold his hand, knowing bits from that incident. But he seemed pretty collected with nothing to indicate severe trauma, that made her content.
Raising her hand she started, "I have Hair." She turned her gaze down to her book, "It's very long and talks about all kinds of dreams that involve hair." Pause and throat clearing, "To dream of having your hair cut, denotes serious disappointments. For a woman to dream that her hair is falling out, and baldness is apparent, she will have to earn her own livelihood, as fortune has passed her by." This wasn't good news for the Ravenclaw. At. All. But she continued, "For man or woman to dream that they have hair of snowy whiteness, denotes that they will enjoy a pleasing and fortunate journey through life. For a man to caress the hair of a woman, shows he will enjoy the love and confidence of some worthy woman who will trust him despite the world's condemnation." Pause. "For a young woman to have this dream, signifies that she will lose her lover by a sudden sickness or accident. She will likely come to grief from some indiscretion on her part. She should be careful of her associates." There was much more but Louisa shared what she thought the most significant ones.

The lioness picked up her book and started the flipping and flicking as she found a rather interesting topic for her. At least it would be something that she could think of at once since she has a really big sweet tooth after all. So she stopped at the page where the interpretation of dreaming a candy is written and read it aloud.
"I'll choose candy,"she beamed. "To dream of making candy, denotes profit accruing from industry. To dream of eating crisp, new candy, implies social pleasures and much love-making among the young and old. Sour candy is a sign of illness or that disgusting annoyances will grow out of confidences too long kept. To receive a box of bonbons, signifies to a young person that he or she will be the recipient of much adulation. It generally means prosperity. If you send a box you will make a proposition, but will meet with disappointment."she finished her lines and sat down, thinking of the things that she had just said.
So was it good or bad to dream of candies? Maybe it would better if it's not a sour one.

Kat was smirking. She was proud about herself. For remembering that tiny bit of paradoxical sleep. The Professor kinda of complimented her or something? Yeah. Ok, Kat. Moving on...

For some reason, Kat had landed on the 'D' section of her book. That was odd. Of all, why D? But oh wells. She landed on the word 'Decorate'. "I chose the word 'Decorate'," Kat said, then she looked at her book. "To dream of decorating a place with bright-hued flowers for some festive occasion, is significant of favorable turns in business, and, to the young, of continued rounds of social pleasures and fruitful study. To see the graves or caskets of the dead decorated with white flowers, is unfavorable to pleasure and worldly pursuits. To be decorating, or see others decorate for some heroic action, foretells that you will be worthy, but that few will recognize your ability."
That was long.

With all this talking about dreams she hoped that they were not going to have to keep some kind of dream journal and have to figure out what it meant each and every time. That just seemed like a lot of useless work. Sigh.
Hannah opened up her book and had to cover her mouth to stop a snort that was sure to come out. She flipped through the pages and wondered if a lot of people actually believed in this stuff. She picked the word abandon because frankly she would love to abandon this class. "Professor I picked abandon." she said with a raised hand. "It says to dream that you are abandoned, denotes that you will have difficulty in framing your plans for future success.
