Upon entering the arena, it may have been a familiar sight for those who attended the first defense against the dark arts lessons from previous terms. The arena was exceedingly dark, windows having been closed off with dark burgundy, almost black looking, drapes that hung from ceiling to floor; more than likely to help with keeping out the cold as well. Deep purple colored mats were lined perfectly from one another in the middle of floor in rows of eight while a deep red mat sat in the front of them all where Professor Romanos currently sitting upon. However, one could still find their way around the room, for scattered around the edges of the arena, far away from where they all would be sitting, were a great deal of candles, both lighting portions of the walls, floors, and ceiling itself in a rather ghostly glow fashion. Glasses with candles that floated in water surrounded with the stationary ones to light up the particularly extra shiny floor were flickering calmly, while the ceiling was lit with an orange glow from the hovering candles, most commonly seen in the Great Hall. Don't worry though. No candle wax will be dripping to the floor.
A strange yet soft music could be heard gently playing in the background; though not loud enough to block out smaller noises such as the rustling of school bags or footsteps. Please come in and become comfortable on one of the mats. Class will be starting shortly!

The Lotus Position. Gotcha.
Theo sat up and adjusted his feet and legs into the correct position, and made an automatic HUMMMM noise. A quiet one, of course. It would only wake the neighbours by him.
Wait, what did the professor say? She was allowing people to give her the wrong answers? Theo was missing something, but that didn't matter because there was a butterfly over in that pretty field over there....
Hmm, and it was sunny.
In his head.

It took a lot of effort for Sophie to IGNORE Elliot's craziness as the girl spoke like it was Sophie's fault she had stumbled or whatever. Ugh. UGH! And it took even MORE effort as she noticed Oakey going over and sitting right behind her and actually talkiiing to heeeer like FRIENDS!!!
Uuuugh, nooooooooooooooo!!!!
The third year took a deep breath and looked at professor Romanos as the older witch started to speak. She blinked a couple of times, trying to get those people from her mind and did the Lotus Position almost automatically as she saw her classmates moving. Oh! Lotus! Sophie glaced around the dueling arena, trying to spot the younger girl she had met back in Diagon Alley but she wasn't able to find her. Maybe it was because of the candles... she couldn't see all that well right now.
Sophie was a bit distracted, so she didn't notice the absence of professor Romano's accent and she almost missed the professor's last instructions, but she was able to listen to the last bit. She almost said 'yeees', but then she stopped herself from doing so, considering what the older witch had just said. Wait... was she supposed to answer... 'no'? Or something else? The badger frowned slightly and blinked again. Eep! That was going to be difficult!

Alex gave her legs a quick stretch and eased her way into the lotus position. After three years, it was getting easier and easier to get into the yoga positions (well, most of them anyway). She loved this class, but it always involved something unexpected. This coming up with an alternate answer business was going to be tough.

So class was starting. And so far, they didn't have to use any spells, which was good. Penelope could deal with getting into the Lotus Position, which she did when the professor instructed them too. She wasn't so sure about the answer part though. They couldn't give the first answer that came to mind? What if it was the only answer? Were they supposed to just not answer then? Penelope was pretty good at not answering professors' questions, though, so she couldn't really complain. Listening to everyone else's answers was fine too.

Silvia eased her legs into the familiar lotus position for the first time in a few months. By now she was getting used to the yoga, but that didn't mean she would practice it outside of class. She would rather run up and down the moving staircase for exercise.
Wait...What? They were supposed to change their answer when they raised their hands? But, Silvia always thought about the answer to a question before raising her hand (if she chose to answer at all). What if she raised her hand and then couldn't think of anything to say other than what she had already thought of? That would be awkward and embarrasing. And unless she sat there with her hand in the air for several moments thinking, her answer was likely to be spontaneous and therefore more likely to be wrong. So maybe this would be another lesson in which she just sat quietly and took notes. It may actually be interesting to hear what sort of answers everyone else came up with under this rule.

Class had started. The doors were closed and when they closed, Melanie turned her head to stare at the light that disappeared. Frowning, Melanie felt a lot more nervous about being here. She shifted uncomfortable from side to side, uncrossing her fingers and rubbing her palms against her knees. It was honestly quite hard to pay attention to the professor with the candles in the room. It just looked... eerie. Plus, looking at the shadows cast by them were very creepy and it made Melanie worry.
There had to be something hiding in here.
What if they were all just a meal for the creature in here?
Right. The professor was speaking. It took a lot to think about what the professor was saying instead of the candles and the darkness. Couldn't they all just bring their teddy bears here and hug them instead? That definite- oh... lotus position. The Gryffindor turned her head left and right watching everyone else before she copied the position too. Was this supposed to help them relax? This just made Melanie worry even more because if something were to attack them... it would be a lot harder to get up and run.

With one more glance at her watch, Medea took out her wand and flicked it to the arena doors. They closed slowly with a loud creeeaaaak, leaving them to rely only on the candles for light. She'd know if someone came in late this way. "Alright, everyone. I think it's time ve start. I hope you all had a splendid summer and ready to learn."
Sitting up straight, the professor softly cleared her throat before speaking again, only this time, most of her unusual accent was...gone. "For those who do not know me, I am Professor Romanos, your defense against the dark arts teacher, and yes, we will be putting these mats to good use during our lessons." Nothing like squishing that last piece of hope for some students who hated the yoga.
"Before we begin, I would like you all to move into what we call the 'Lotus Position'. If you don't know what that is, look at how I am sitting or turn to an older student for help." Despite the either creepy or calm way the candles lit up the room, depending on one's point of view, it should've been enough to see how she currently sat. "Today we are indeed going over review to refresh our minds on this topic, as we have from previous years, however..."
She paused momentarily for dramatic effect. "I am going to be re-introducing the five senses this year as well as hoping to detour most of your standard way of thinking during classes." The first answer they thought of was usually what was blurted out. "To do that, today, when you raise your hand to answer a question, whatever that answer may be...I want you to stop, clear that answer from your mind, and give me a different one. Does everyone understand that?"[/color]

Lotus Position
When class had started, Ari listened carefully to what the proffesor had to say. So these mats were here for reason then eh? Well thats good, but Ari had no clue what this yogi stuff was, but she pulled both of her legs up into the lotus position (after falling down a few times).
Then the teach asked them to think of different answers...that was ever weirder than the mats, Ari wan't sure she would be able to do that, why not just think of two answers from the start....

Lotus Position
The creaking sound of the doors made Alec blink. Yeah... that was something that you could find in a horror movie. And if he hadn't seen Romanos flicking her wand, he would have been REALLY scared right about now. Or, you know, he would be if it wasn't for the fact that there were floating candles. And they were sitting on mats. And it was actually quite nice in the room.
Alec snapped his attention back to the Professor as she talked about... a Lotus Position? Yeah, sure, he could do that. The boy stretched out his legs and wiggled his toes a bit. He then took a hold of each of the lower parts of his legs and folded them so that the back of his feet faced upwards. There. He grinned before closing his eyes and humming along. "Hhhmmmmmm...." This was... weird. And peaceful. But mostly weird.
And what was that about answering questions? Alec's eyes flew open and he blinked some more. What if he liked the way he thought, though? He looked down at his feet, silently hoping that his love for ice cream wasn't going to be altered. But not saying the first answer that came to mind... that wouldn't be so bad, right? "Hhhhmmmmm..." he hummed, closing his eyes once again. Yeah... this was going to be a weird lesson.
Belle smiled and asked him, "So i guess you know your way around the castle to find this classroom huh?" She giggled a little bit and sat down next to him. Her heart began to race and was liking to idea of sitting next to Ethan. Belle got out her notebook ready to take notes for the class.

"I'm learning," Ethan told Belle with a wink. He was feeling quite pleased with himself for finding his way well enough to be on time when the creeeaaaky door caught his attention. His eyes turned to the front of the room as the professor spoke.
His vaguely attentive watch soon turned to an incredulous stare. "Lotus. Position," he repeated slowly. He did not know what a lotus position was or why it was necessary for this class, but he began to pull his legs into the same arrangement the rest of the class was getting into. The first leg was easy to pull his foot onto his thigh, the second not so much. Turning his head, Ethan noticed that Belle had no problem putting her legs in that position, so he tried again. After the third attempt, his foot seemed to be able to stay put, at least for the time being, and he turned his attention back to the professor. What on earth was she talking about? Five senses and second-guessing yourself... Merlin, this class was already bizarre and he was pretty sure it hadn't even started yet.

Belle chuckled to herself when he winked at her. She put her attention on the professor at first. She got into her yoga position quite quickly than Ethan did. Belle giggle and asked him, "Would you need any assistance sir on how to do yoga poses?" she asked jokingly.

From the moment Violet had entered before class had began, she knew something really interesting was going to happen! And when the Professor had begun class and told them to get into the Lotus Position, Violet was already stretching her legs. Now Violet had never really taken Yoga before, but she heard it is so relaxing! And judging by the way the Lotus Position looked, Violet was already feeling that she could do that! Thankfully having a dancer's body and being very flexible, it seemed like it wouldn't be too difficult to cross her legs into the way the Lotus Position required.
She pulled her hair back into a ponytail before laying out her mat. Violet then stepped onto the mat sitting down. Violet then almost immediately was able to position herself correctly. Violet then looked over at the Professor waiting for her further instructions.

The lioness was still confused about how the Professor's old person muscles could handle it and her own couldn't. The explanation had definitely escaped her mind. PLUS. She was the hulk. She had monster muscles. So she could totally do yoga.
That only left one explanation.
Yoga was totally rigged.

Lotus Position
And.. NO. Nononononono.
They were doing the yoga. Alice winced when Professor Romanos told them to get into lotus position. She hated that. Biting her lip nervously, she tried pulling her legs inward and her toes up on her knees as instructed. But every time one foot kept slipping off of her knee.. ehh. Whatever. She could just sit with only one foot on her knees. Same difference. The young girl crossed her legs and listened intently as the Professor finished up.
More senses lesson? Hmph. Change our answers?! HMPH. That was.. an alright rule. She supposed. Alice had that problem, where she blurted out the first thing that came into her mind and made herself look incredibly stupid. Maybe she would be able to think a bit this class and offer more intelligent answers? She hoped so.
She tried tugging her legs into lotus position again and did not succeed and waited for more directions,

Jory placed himself into the familiar lotus position. He had actually learnt to do it faster now that he was so accustomed to it.
He listened to what the Professor was saying. Different answers? "Now this is different,'' the boy thought as he adjusted himself a bit more comfortably. Normally, after thinking a bit on his answer, he would raise his hand then. To give the first answer that popped into his head.

Anya sat down as instructed. She straightened her back and left her hands resting against her thighs. Weirdly enough... she probably could fall asleep like this. Actually, that probably wasn't weird at all. She was capable of sleeping nearly anywhere.
She nodded a little at the Professor's question. She meant... that the rule was to say something random different than the first answer after this question, right?
Because. You know. She nodded this time. And nodding had been her first reaction to the question.

Lotus Position
OHHHH!!! This professor had an accent. Juliet sat on her mat and listened to the professor as she sat. However, Juliet didn't expect that when she said that they will start, she got going to her first pose........ which is the Lotus Position. They're doing yoga. She has seen this pose from her aunt at their terrace.
Does this mean while she lectures, they do yoga poses? That's fine with Juliet. She likes doing yoga anyway. Sitting up straight and placing her hands on top of her lap and having the same position as the professor. Lotus position.
To do that, today, when you raise your hand to answer a question, whatever that answer may be...I want you to stop, clear that answer from your mind, and give me a different one. Does everyone understand that?
Crystal clear. However the question on the latter part is confusing. Is that a trick question???? It is isn't it? Or has it not yet started yet and she wants for herself to be clear. Juliet smirked and tried not to over think it as she suggested. But yes, she understood it perfectly.
Sigh. Elliot shook her head, laughing....Cora being mean...there was no hope..."Fine, I'll move," she joked, and actually pretended to get up...but she quickly plopped back down, looking very in her element: Confident, arrogant, smiling(or rather, smirking), and very calm. "You'll like this class, Cora. Don't worry. And plus you're sitting next to me." Which meant...Elliot wouldn't let Cora completely flop the class.
Elliot could be helpful. VERY. If she wanted to be.
Cora smiled at Elliot, who was definitely in nice mode, and her mind was at ease. Cora knew she would be fine, but her smile was still a bit off.
SPOILER!!: Hannah

Hannah looked her up and down very slowly so the girl would be fully aware that she was being sized up. She glanced at her friend Elliot with a look that said explain! Like explain how you are friends with this girl.
Still she decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and besides it wasn't as if Hannah had a lot of friends so maybe just maybe she shouldn't be so judgemental right off the bat. "Hello Cora...pleasure to meet you." She said in her I'm soo much better than you are voice and I am only giving you a chance because you are Elliot's friend.
Cora noticed Hannah's surprised expression. She noticed the hesitation with which Hannah responded to Cora. Cora noticed Hannah's judging look, and that she clearly wasn't AS friendly as some of the other students Cora had met. Cora hadn't noticed this before.
Still, this didn't phase her. Hannah did seem a bit intimidating, which Cora did react to a bit, but Cora could tell there had to be more to her than this. Besides, Cora had already been freaking out about DADA, so anything else seemed less scary. And she was Elliot's friend, which should say something. For some reason, Cora always saw the best in people, and this wasn't about to stop. She just knew she wanted to be on Hannah's good side. That shouldn't be hard for Cora. She was generally easy to get along with. Ignored? Yes. But not hated.
Cora smiled. "It's nice to meet you, too" Cora said happily, wanting to communicate something along the lines of "I respect that you are cooler than me but I'd like to be friends anyway or at least friendly, and I won't step on too many of your toes". Cora turned her head slightly back towards the professor, to see what was happening, hoping that Hannah would like her.

She had thought Defense Against the Dark Arts was going to be a lot of action and spell learning, but maybe – since it was lesson one, they would start off slowly. She was thankful for that. “I wouldn’t want to take anyone’s eye out on accident.”
Watching the professor go into what she called The Lotus, Eliza tried to match her position. “Okay...” observing the way Professor Romanos put her feet on the tops of her legs, she realized this would be difficult. “And it’s only the first instruction,” she thought. Eliza sat cross legged and tried to pull her left foot up over her right knee. “Okay, that wasn’t so hard.” She breathed out. “Now for the next one.” Getting her right foot to also come up was a whole other story. She pulled and pulled, but each time her left leg just slipped off again. “I’m definitely not as flexible as she is.” Exasperated with her lack of flexibility, Eliza settled on sitting plain cross legged for now, until she was able to stretch further.
“Now what?” she wondered. Sitting patiently, she wondered if she’d be able to whisper to Cora without getting them both in trouble. Hearing how quiet it was in the room though, she decided not to chance it …yet.

Lotus pose
Cora turned slightly to get into the pose. What was it again? Locust? Oh, Lotus. She was not bad at yoga, and happy to be at least doing something simple to start with. Even though she wondered what yoga had to do with DADA, she didn't mind.
As she turned, her curls bouncing, she noticed Eliza out of the corner of her eye. Waving slightly and smiling, Cora returned to her pose, looking to Elliot a bit for a model of how to be sitting. Elliot had way more experience than Cora. All Cora knew was what could come out of a book.
Oooh Yoga... the young Gryffindor was quite happy about that, after doing dance since she was about 4 years old it was fairly easy for her, especially as she preferred acro routines. This was definitely going to be one of her favourite classes, or at least that's what she thought to herself as she settled down into the Lotus pose, nodding at the instructions the professor gave.

Lotus Position
For a moment, Kat was deeply confused with what Professor Romanos said. Answer a different answer? What is that supposed to mean? Answer something different than the actual answer? Or use random words? What the firebolt.
The lotus position saved her from freaking out. As the Fourth Year watched the Professor and other students do that awkward sitting position, she tried to follow. It was uncomfortable at first but, well she had no choice. And since when did DADA, one of Kat's favorite classes, become Yoga class?

Does everyone understand that?"

Lotus Position
SIGHHH. Class was starting. And since Milton didn't want detention, he shook himself from his 5-minute power nap and sat up when the professor started talking. Did anyone else notice her strange accent disappear? Because Milton did and he thought it was kind of really odd. But then again, he thought the professor was odd too, so it fit.
As instructed, Milton got into the lotus position like everyone else. This he could do, but other than that, he wasn't sure. He wasn't very flexible.
Milton blinked a few times. So they had to ignore the first thought that came to their mind and think of a new one? Again... odd. Did he understand that?
Yes. "No. Yes, but no, because yes was my first answer. So no." But he nodded anyway because he DID understand. Weird.

"Ready for some yoga?" the brunette whispered further. UHH...why was she whispering again?

Kendall's main goal for this lesson was to try and distract herself from, well, herself. Her confusion about what had happened out at the lake, her confusion as to why she hadn't been able to say anything to make things less awkward. She always knew what to say, and the very fact that she couldn't arrange her thoughts to be able to say what she wanted to bothered her. Granted, she'd been able to talk about how she was so confused. That was one of the reasons she'd ended up here with Beezus at the back, even though she'd turned halfway in her beeline to give Professor Romanos another tentative smile as the woman had returned her greeting. Noticing both Vickers and the boy he'd been sitting with look at her curiously. She hadn't really bothered asking. She'd just fled to the one person who knew her, and knew that for once she wasn't really wanting to talk. Well, the one person who knew her that wasn't the reason why she wasn't her normal bubbly self.
She'd smiled a little at the random nickname, though. That was nice. She hadn't thought she'd gotten a nickname yet, and the fact it had been followed with a completely innocent question relaxed her even more. "Course," she'd whispered back, stretching her legs out to show the leggings she'd put on under her uniform skirt before pulling them in again as a Slytherin boy had walked past to plant himself on Beezus' other side and spoken, distracting her friend. Yoga was supposed to clear the mind, wasn't it? That was exactly what she needed, since chocolate wasn't helping. Chocolate only kept her thinking about now messed up things were right now.

Lotus Position
Shortly after she'd returned her legs to their curled up state, it seemed like Professor Romanos had decided to start the lesson. The announcment that they were definitely going to be doing some yoga didn't really worry her. She blinked as the doors had shut and put the room even further into candlelit darkness, however. That along with the music was a bit unsettling. Well, along with the fact the professor's accent had almost vanished. It's still Professor Romanos, right? She's not possessed or something?, she wondered, shifting awkwardly into the lotus position as asked. And then two seconds late slipping her boots off. They were making the yoga position uncomfortable, and she wasn't going to be able to think about her answers and stuff if she was distracted by her boots digging into her legs.

"Good morning, Mister Watson." she greeted the Ravenclaw. "I did, thank you."
Goodness, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Didn't stop Medea from giving a warm and welcoming smile though!
Bore her? Good Merlin no, that rarely happened.

YOGA. Of course.
The mats, candles.. yeah. Abby didn't like yoga. But she proceeded to cross her legs. She got into the lotus position and sighed. This class was going to be horrible. She knew it.
Thinking during classes?..
Waiiit. Was she in the right class? This was Defence Against the Dark Arts, right? Because it didn't seem like they were learning anything that would help them against dark.. stuff. Seriously, how does Yoga help? And, the professor's voice distracted her from her thoughts.
BLANK. Abby raised her hand. "Professor, are you saying we shouldn't answer what we want to answer? Isn't that.. weird?" Not surprising though. This professor seemed extremely weird.
With one more glance at her watch, Medea took out her wand and flicked it to the arena doors. They closed slowly with a loud creeeaaaak, leaving them to rely only on the candles for light. Lotus Position
NUUUUUH.
More yoga. Blue narrowed her eyes and gave a mini!Glare at the Professor. Sure she liked her but yoga was a NO. Actually, it wasn't NO. It was NUUUUUH. But, because she didn't wanna get in trouble she sat cross-legged and used her hands to lift her left leg and very awkwardly and un-comfortably managed to do that stupid yoga position. Owowowowow. It HURT though.
WAIT WHAT?
Romanos was going to change the way they THOUGHT?!
O__O
B-but Blue LIKED the way she thought. Her thoughts were awesome. And wait what? So if the yoga!obsessed!teacher asked a question they had to come up with the answer and then come up with a different one? But that made NO sense what-so-ever. What if they had the right answer? Frown-y face. And did they understand? Was that like a trick question? Trying to get them to come up with a different answer to see if they were listening?
So she raised her hand and thought of the most random answer ever, even though the CORRECT answer was no. She definetly did NOT understand.

An enthusiastic grin spread across Ashten's face as Vickers shook his hand and introduced himself. With the dimly lit room, the candlelight danced across the older Ravenclaw's face. The fifth-year wondered if he looked as odd in the candlelight as he did. But that was besides the point.
"I am from the US," Ashten replied after the handshake. "What about yourself-?" His attention was broken as a girl with red and pink hair ran past the pair of them and joined another girl near them. He raised his eyes slightly at her abruptness, but didn't think too much of it. He also noticed that Vickers looked in her direction as well. And just before Ashten asked if he knew her, yet another woman walked by and gave Vickers an awkward smile. Does this fella know everyone? Ashten thought.
"Well you seem quite popular," Ashten chuckled, his dark eyes glowing with the candlelight.
His eyes fleeted towards the Professor, and Ashten realized she was looking at him. And she wasn't just looking at him and smiling like a Professor usually does. No, her eyebrows were slightly raised towards him. Perplexed, Ashten looked around the room. He wouldn't consider himself an odd person, in demeanor or appearance. It wasn't until he looked back down to the ground next to his legs that he realized he was the only student who had laid out his supplies like an overly-excited first-year. His cheeks flushed a tinge of pink as he picked up his parchment, ink, and quill and tossed them inside his bag. He'd get them when he needed them. And then it dawned on him that he hadn't even greeted the professor. The slight tinge of pink turned darker as his face showed slight chagrin.
"Good morning, Professor Romanos!" he said, waving to her kindly. He hoped that would suffice. Hopefully.
An fellow American-- he could tell by the accent, just couldnt quite place where he was from "So am I--" he started just when he caught Ashten's glance towards Kurumi's direction. Wait did he call him popular? A modest grin graces this Ravenclaw's features "Nawww I'm not-- she is though." he said as he nudged his head towards the Gryffindor Prefect's direction.
SPOILER!!: Yogawoman ;)

Lotus Position
He turns his head back when the door creaked loudly to close. Gosh now the classroom is even darker. He moved into position at the Professor's instructions, folding his gangly legs a bit awkwardly as he tackled to make an acceptable looking Lotus position. But it was at the question that got Vickers to look up and blinked rather confusedly. Did she say what he thought she said? He raised his hand slowly-- his answer was YES of course, but she instructed them to do something else. Thus opening his lips he blurted out "Why?"

The Ravenclaw managed to give the foreign professor a beaming smile in return to her congratulation. This woman would've been so easier to talk to if she wasn't into this dark arts thing. Merlin.
"O--"kay. Louisa was about to answer Romanos but she caught her tongue, straightened her back even more. "We'll try our best." There. The professor didn't say they had to contradict their original answer, right? Yeah. As for the Lotus position, the seventh year was already assuming the position. By the corner of her eye, she watched Vivi struggle taking the right posture too. Bendy body, yep. Once the girl was finished, without cracking her hip, Louisa closed her eyes again and willed her body to relax and her mind to clear of all thoughts... until the professor's next question.

Well, her instructions didn't actually apply to this particular question, but well done to those who were going along with it already. Either that or they really didn't understand what they were supposed to do. It was kinda hard to tell.
"Yes, you may." she nodded.

Fair enough questions. "Not weird if you think about it." she started off, looking at the entire class. "It's more of a brain exercise. Believe it or not, things won't go exactly according to plan in the real world outside this castle, or even inside as I'm sure most of you have figured out already. It's best to think of more than one solution than to be left stumbling. It's actually quite a crucial aspect for topics discussed in this class."
Adjusting her legs, she made herself comfortable once more before continuing in. "I'll try not to have basic yes or no questions to make this less hard on you all. If you honestly cannot think or more than one answer, do try and reword it from what you're previously thinking. The point of this is broaden your horizons, so to speak."
"So, for starters, tell me something you know about the dark arts."
