Yes, he was listening. Pfft.

Theodore didn't have a clue what was in the box, maybe a bug, seeing as it wasn't moving at all. Creatures DID tend to wriggle, so he was at least thankful that no kind of fire breathing dragon was inside. They were making... bags? What... what did that have to do with anything?

He sighed.

"Is it an animal?" Technically, that wouldn't be wrong. The second year eyed the example bag when the professor said about it being made out of moke skin. "Poor moke...."

Oh Merlin. Holding a third lesson was a bad, bad idea.

Vanora stared and glared, glared and stared at the few who guessed that, and just to get her point across, she glared!stared some more! No dead creatures in her lessons. She would save that stuff for Lafay. "No dead creatures." And since it seemed like everyone who wanted to answer did just that, plus the fact that she didn't want to hear anymore dead creatures answer, she continued. "Good guesses, though." Expect the dead creature ones. "But there actually is something inside of the bins." For those who said nothing. Anyway.. "Most of your guesses were fairly close, but Cassia and Genevieve were spot on. We're not going to be examining what's inside, however, but we will be working with it, and you'll all be making your own one of these.."

Pausing for just a moment, to build up the suspense, Vanora reached into her pocket and pulled out her very own drawstring bag. She placed it on the middle of the long table for everyone to see.. just in case they couldn't before. "I figured we would do something easy and fun for the last lesson, after everything that had happened, plus, these little bags sure do come in handy." Maybe if she made a bag big enough, she could put all her creatures inside of it and protect them FOREVER!!!

Or.. maybe not.

Now! No thing could widen the second-year's grin any more after her guess turned out to be correct. Cassia was getting the hang of those guessing questions at the beginning of each lesson. Well, at least in some subjects. Which was good. She was improving. Now back to the bins and what they contained. Though there were no creatures this lesson it still seemed to be an interesting one especially when Professor Newlin showed them that bag.

So they were going to make stuff from creatures skins Or something like that. That was promising.. And yup it was settled that they were gonna make bags! Cassia beamed already excited about the idea. She'd have a bag that she had made it herself! How cool was that.

So they start now? Apparently not. Another question...

"It is a lizard.." Which was already mentioned. "silver-green skinned.." Already mentioned too. Wait she remembers hearing her father telling her about them. "It's said that bags made from mokeskin can fit for anyyyything."Well, something like that she doesn't have an accurate memory. And come to think of it it really is handy. Perhaps Cassia would put all her stuff in just in case the common rooms decided to lock up on her precious stuff again.Mhhmm..

So the bins were... empty? Well ok, he gets that, but there was something he wasnt quite following. He angled his head when the Professor brought out the mokeskin pouch, partially listening to the other students as they gave out the answer to the Professor's question. they will be making their own one of these..... pouches? He glanced at the mokeskin in his hand, now already turning into a shade of black and dark silver. Slowly he raised his hand, a perplexed look on his face "Professor... are we making another mokeskin pouch... out of the bins?" because he wasnt quite following why they had to make a pouch when they were already given one.

Weasley174 11-26-2012 01:26 PM

Laura looked at the Professor. "A Moke is a lizard with silver-green skin it is rated XXX by the Ministry and it is native to the British Isles." Laura smiled she was really sure she was right, she had been reading up on different creatures trying to improve her knowlege on the subject.

MudInMyBlood 11-26-2012 01:36 PM

Well doing something fun and easy was always a good thing. However she had a feeling that the professor's and her idea of something fun were two totally different things. They were going to be making drawstring bags? She watched as the professor pulled out hers. UGH! That was not cute! Hannah could not be seen carrying around one of those. She would just go along with it and burn it later.

Moke? At first Hannah was going to ask the professor if she meant Mole. Then it hit her... duh! "A moke is a silver green lizard." She would have went on more about it, but what was the point when you had others students that would give out the textbook answer?

Kimothy 11-26-2012 02:51 PM

...

This lesson didn't seem so interesting... That was sad. GRUMP. But Kat kept her attention at Professor Newlin. Kat initially knew that a moke was a lizard, duh. Gosh is there anything else to say about a moke aside that it is awesome because it was like a lizard? Honestly, a moke didn't have enough information so maybe Kat would stick with the general info but someone else got it.

Gulp. "I agree that mokes are native to the British Isles," the blonde said. Now... mental glares for the one who answered it before her.

DaniDiNardo 11-26-2012 03:19 PM

Well that wasn't what she expected to be in the bins at all. She had no idea what to make of it and didn't know how she felt about it not being something cooler--but only because she didn't know what the heck it was in the first place. Not very good considering the Professor was asking questions about the...moke, was it? Right, that word. Whatever it was.

She leaned against the table and began using her foot to play with a few blades of grass while she listened to the others give answers that would most likely be right. She wouldn't even attempt this one because she'd never heard about anything like a moke before in her entire life.

Oh?

So that's what it was! Oooo, well NOW she had an answer. Yup.

Lex raised her hand. "Professor it's yet another creature that I don't have for a pet, 'cept I didn't know about this one so I couldn't bother Daddy to get me one. Would you say it's highly recommendable for a 12 year old?" because you know...she'd be turning 12 soon. Inside she was hoping the answer was no because that made the creature sound more desirable and usually strengthened her drive.

feeheeheeny 11-26-2012 03:52 PM

OOoohhh... that was an interesting twist. Max was kind of disappointed he wouldn't be working with a live creature during his last class, but he supposed this was still a useful topic nonetheless. Mokes were wicked cool and useful, and Max raised a hand to elaborate on that opinion.

"A moke is a fairly small magical lizard - and it shrinks to be even smaller when it wants to." Which WAS really, really cool. "The skin is good for bags and purses 'cause the bag will shrink at anyone but the owner's touch so no one else can get inside it."

DecemberMoon 11-26-2012 04:15 PM

Eliza had heard about these mokeskin bags and she had always wanted one. So glad it's not a gross lesson. Those ingredients in potions were too much. She did wonder how they came upon the skins though, but she doubted this professor would have gotten them in any negative way.

"Yes, I agree. The mokeskin bag will only open for its owner. They're very special creatures, so their skins come in handy. But...where did these come from, Professor?" she asked hesitantly.

Magical Soul 11-26-2012 04:18 PM

W-whaaaa? They were going to use the thing in the bin? Huh. Cool. Louisa swung her legs back and forth as she listened to professor Newlin speaking about.. moke. Plenty of students already gave a suffiecient answer covering all the points Louisa was going to mention. But when Max elaborated on the changing of size issue, Louisa shot her hand in the air and continued right after him, "Which is why Muggles never noticed the moke... since it has the ability to shrink at will." Did someone already mention this? The Ravenclaw lowered her hand slowly and listened for other answers from her fellow students.

Expecto-Penguin 11-26-2012 04:37 PM

Belle was excited to be learning about the moke. She heard of it but never got to actually use it. Then she heard the professor ask about what the moke is. She only heard first hand accounts from her grandmother. Belle raised her hand and said, "Professor the moke is a green or silver lizard that cannot be seen by muggles. It has the ability to shrink at will." That is all she knew so far.

Belle was excited to have her own moke skin bag. She heard that Harry Potter got his moke skin bag for his birthday. Well what she heard from her grandmother of course.

Ella was actually feeling a bit more cheerful after witnessing Professor Newlin glare at the students who suggested there might be dead creatures inside the bins. First off, ICK. Keeping dead creatures in a bin just seemed so....so....wrong. Squirm. Secondly, given all the weird and horrible things that had happened to the creatures recently the suggestion seemed a bit insensitive to Ella. The glaring, though? This made Ella smile a little to herself. She felt like glaring too, Professor Newlin. You go, girl.

Ohhhh! Mokeskin bags? BEAM. That was quite a nice idea. Not as fun as working with a live creature but the third year couldn't exactly blame the Professor for not wanting to put any other creatures in danger. "Professor, a mokeskin bag or erm...pouch carries items which only the owner of the pouch can get out! It's also quite larger than it appears on the outside. I mean....it can carry more items than one might think. Oh and a moke is...a lizard thing-y that can shrink!" Yup. And that's all.

Jory was already finding this lesson interesting. He raised his hand. "A moke is a magical lizard,'' he said, looking at the bag. He didn't know much about the moke but he found it really interesting to hear what some of the students were saying about it's skin.

Lissy Longbottom 11-27-2012 04:59 AM

Awww no that poor moke! It had been turned in to a bag! Sad. Alex hated to see poor little animals turned in to fashion statements!

He raised his hand. "Mokes are magical lizards that can shrink whenever they want, and they can't be seen by muggles. So sort of like chameleons I think...but cooler," he said with a head nod.

A drawstring bag? A lizard skin bag..Poor moke... Processed and charmed...What did that mean..."The Moke is a lizard with silver-green skin. Under the Ministry of Magic Classifications it is XXX. The Moke has the ability to shrink at will. Due to this ability the bag also has the ability to shrink when a stranger comes near it! Which was so cool...So thank you Moke!
