Run run run run run! Creatures was perhaps the only lesson that this Gryffindor would run to. No, wait, sprint to as the case was this time around. Kurumi had no idea what would be in store this time around since the class announcement had been rather cryptic, but as long as there was more hands on creature time she really didn't care if they were dealing with giant spiders. Okay, that was probably an exaggeration, but Kurumi was rediscovering just how much she loved the subject. ANDOHMERLINHERUNIVERSITYRESULTSWERECOMINGUPSOON. Approaching the area, Kurumi tugged on her robes for a moment to make sure that the woman saw that she was wearing THE shirt. "Professor Newl----," Kurumi said with a polite bow before glancing over at the stands...and then realizing that the woman wasn't around. Oops. Awkward bow to the air then... The jobberknolls would have probably liked those... |
Care for Magical Creatures up next! Butshedidn'twannaleaveMasonherbeautifulfirecraball alone. But he'll be okay, right? That's the reason why they have Creatures. They learn how to take care of those creatures out there... that are magical of course. MASON WAS NO EXCEPTION! When Kat arrived, she already saw Kurumi... what shirt was she wearing? Save the *insert name of bird here*. Well, whatever. Kat looked at Professor Newlin. "Hello Professor," she greeted the woman. Taking a seat at one of the benches, Kat then looked at Kurumi. "Hi Kurumi." Well, she didn't want to be ignorant or anything. ... Now what were those weird-looking stand for, Newlin? |
plus Kurumi Going to COMC class had him worrying slightly about the cold, so just like Divination he bundled himself up nice and thick before heading towards the barn. But when he slid open the large doors he was surprised by the warmth filling the interior, and thus he started to loosen his heavy robes and scarf. His eyes caught the bird tree "I got something like that for Dolly..." he murmured grinning referring to his pet cockatoo up at the Owlery. He turned around and that grin melted away when he saw Kurumi's shirt. "Did anybody ever found out what happened to the Jobberknolls?" he murmured to the Lioness. |
Minerva walked into the barn. She hadn't been here yet this term. Which she hated being so busy with classes, that she wasn't able to give extra help like other terms. Looking around she smiled at the animals and even stopped to talk to a few of them. She was early and not many students were here yet. "Hey everyone" She gave a quick glance to Vickers, Kurumi, and Kat. Going back to the animals she walked around just looking at them and stopping for a moment to check out the interesting stands. Wondering what they could be using them for, she turned and found a seat. Once in her seat she pulled out some parchment to be ready for class and just hoped maybe a certain person might be in class today. Thinking about that first Care class and how she was happy not to have partnered with her usual friends, because if she would have she might not have met him. |
Jory arrived at the barn looking forward to another great lesson. There were a few students there all ready. Hi, Professor Newlin. Hey everyone,'' he greeted. His attention was caught by the Stands. "What are those for?'' he wondered, rather curious. |
Bundled up for the cold weather, Ethan stepped into the barn for class, grateful that it was much warmer than he expected. He was not a fan of winter and was counting the days before it would be spring again. Loosening up his scarf, he ventured further in, eyes scanning the immediate vicinity. No sign of Newlin yet.. but a handful of students were already assembled. Friendly nods for each as he walked past, his eyes landed on Minerva and flashed her a smile as he made his way towards her. "Hi, Min," he said as he took a seat on the bench next to her. Oh, parchment? Yeah, that was probably a good idea and he had some too. The boy reached down in his bag and pulled out a few pieces, waiting for class to begin and wondering what kind of creatures they'd be working with today. |
and Kurumi Ella was still a bit freaked out over the whole Jobberknoll business, even if it had been a while since she had to break the news to the Professor. That was the worst bit actually, having had to be the one to tell her about it. She felt like she had broke the woman's heart or something. Frown. That saying don't shoot the messenger hopefully was one that held true. Ella felt bad enough as it was. Entering the barn, the third year noticed that the Professor wasn't yet inside. Frown. She didn't blame her, really. Bad memories in the barn and all. She did notice Kurumi's shirt, however. This actually got the small blonde to smile. Walking up to the older girl, she studied it curiously. "Kurumi...that shirt is brilliant." Nod. Nod. Nod. "Did you make it yourself?" And more importantly, where could she get one? |
plus kurumi Sarah walked into the barn and out of habit was about to greet the jobberknoll, yet their empty spot reminded her of their death. She then saw Kurumi wearing the most AWESOMEST shirt. "Hey Kurumi! Did you make that? They are so awesome... a perfect memorial for those poor creatures" she said, "by the way, is the seat beside you on the bench free?" Sarah asked. She would like to sit next to Kurumi |
Eliza began pulling off her mittens and scarf as she entered the cozy barn for her lesson. As she stepped further inside she saw that she was among the first to arrive. Well that's a good sign, she thought. She'd felt like she had been in a mad dash all year, so it was nice to have a few minutes before class officially started. She spotted the strange stands in the classroom, as well as her friend Ethan, who was not strange but just happened to be there in her line of sight as well. She gestured at the stands and said to him, "Hey Ethan -- birds, you think?" She brushed some snowflakes off of her robes and rubbed her hands together to keep her fingers warm. |
The last care of magical creatures lesson was fun. So Cassia was excited about the second one. But she wasn't so excited about walking outside the castle until she reached the Barn where the lesson was held. But there was no other choice for her ,was there? So wearing everything that fit on top of each other, Cassia headed to the barn. While heading there she was wondering what would they be doing today. And she remembered that the Jobberknolls mysteriously died! Cassia wondered how would be Professor Newlin feeling. Surely she;d be devastated. Would they spend the lesson grieving the died creatures and talking about how good they used to be? Cassia hoped not. Because that would be boring. The second-year entered the barn and headed towards one of the benches and sat down. Where was the Professor? She wondered.Do they need to say anything to her. Like sorry your creatures died? Or something. Better to leave it till the woman appeared. |
Kennedy tugged his cloak tighter as he went down to the barn. He didn't like the cold...well, maybe a little, but he didn't like having to wear layers just to stay warm. He quickly made his way down and rubbed his hands together once he entered the barn. His mind was still somewhere else, so he briefly acknowledged the creatures and instead sat on a bench. His eyes wandered around, but Professor Newlin was nowhere in sight. Huh. |
What was with these professors and their constant need to be OUTSIDE? Granted this was Care of Magical Creatures, so it was to be expected, but Elwood had held class outside as well and at this point, Alex was DONE with the cold. He was ready for the spring, when it was warm and lovely and plenty of flowers and animals came out for him to draw... Rubbing his hands together (of course he'd forgotten his gloves, just his luck) he gathered with the rest of the class and waited for the professor. Hurry hurry hurryyyy! |
It was really, really cold. Bundled up with two scarves and gloves, Max hurried inside the barn only to find that... it was actually quite cozy. He instinctively began pulling his scarves and gloves off, shoving them deep into his robe pockets, leaving part of one of the scarves hanging out. Newlin hadn't arrived yet, it seemed, about which he was quite grateful. Perhaps he could straighten himself up a bit before she arrived. Max removed the hat from his head, used a hurried hand to smooth his hair down, and shoved the hat in an overstuffed pocket. As he went to take a seat on one of the benches, he noticed the funny-looking stands at the back of the room. They looked like some kind of... weird bird-feeders or bird stands, maybe? Hm. Still eyeing them as he sat down, Max wondered if they had anything to do with the deceased jobberknolls. Poor Newlin. |
Sierra shivered just a little as she stepped outside the castle and met the cold, winter air. She pulled her cloak tighter across her chest then headed down to the barn. Stepping inside, she released a soft sigh as the warmth engulfed her. Thank you, Professor Newlin, for having a heart. Or a brain, whichever had prompted the sudden change in temperature. Looking around, she eyed the surroundings quite curiously before finding a place amongst the others. |

As Belle came down for another Care Of Magical Creatures lesson, she was shivering. She should learn to wear warmer clothes. I mean she had her robes on to keep her warm but she could feel the cold wind. BRRRRRRRRRRR Then Belle looked around at the Barn. I wonder what they were going to be learning today. As Belle saw the professor she greeted her with, "Hello Professor Newlin! How are you today?" Belle nodded and gave a friendly wave to Ethan and Minnie. |
Laura walked into the classroom and "Hello Pr......." Laura suddenly stopped when she realised there wasn't a Professor in the room, oh this was good, she decided to have some fun, She hoped she didn't get into too much trouble. "Who thinks I would make a good teacher?" Laura asked the class, she thought she could be a good one. |
Anya pulled her cloak around her tighter and she headed in to the barn. The barn with allllll the cool animals. It was a little chilly, but, she was sure it would be worth it. When were fun magical animals not worth it? She entered the classroom but didn't see the Professor. She glanced curiously at the ... perches? in the barn. Hopefully that meant they were playing with some sort of monkey today. Because. That looked like the type of thing monkeys could enjoy. |

Elliot didn't feel like being here, she felt like laying in her BED..all day. She wanted to just...sleep. She felt awful. And in many ways....mentally and physically. The blonde had a windswept look about her, which was quite unusual...but...meeh. She still managed to look perfectly GORGEOUS! HEHE. She stepped into the barn and was GLAD to be out of the freeeezing cold outside. Shivering, she went and stood by no one else...glaring at everyone, pretty much, but her most viiiicious glare for that..Hufffflepuff....Minnie.... *gur* She leaned against the wall and folded her arms across her chest....looking VERY sulky...like...don't talk to me or I will BITE your head off sulky...she scowled to herself, checking her watch. How long until this class was over? At least it was Magical Creatures, which had been quite enjoyable last time...surprisingly. MEehehh. Where was Hannah? Or MAx? or Ariana? Or Presley?! WAH. |
we see you too Kat :3 Quote:

Speaking of which...DID Professor Newlin know about all the blood they had to use in Potions? If not...Kurumi was more than willing to let her know. Quote:
Kurumi hadn't actually picked a seat yet...she should probably do that. "Oh, no. Not one side at least," she nodded. The other was reserved for Daichi on the off chance that they were working with more fire creatures today. |

Emmaleigh hadn't bothered to really bundle since the class was going to take place in the barn, she knew how warm barns could be. Of course, as soon as she stepped out of the castle, she near about froze, but she decided to push through it. When she finally reached the barn, and pushed the door open, her teeth were chattering. She glanced around a moment, at the familiar barn where she had spent many an afternoon, though, she hadn't had the chance to visit it at all this term. Seeing the reason why she hadn't made it to the barn, Em headed straight to him. Taking a seat close beside Max, she smiled through her chattering teeth. “Hey,” she said quietly, as she sat her bag on the floor beside her. |
If it was possible, today would have been one of those days that she would have owled in sick. She really, really didn't feel like teaching a class, and considering what the lesson she was going to be teaching was on.. all she wanted to do was sit in her hut with a nice cup of something chocolate and cuddle Grise until it looked like the little coati's eyeballs were going to pop out of her head. As it was, though, the downside of living where you worked, it was hard to owl in sick and she couldn't exactly hide herself away. So, teaching it was! Finally making her way into the barn, hair lazily thrown up because she didn't feel like brushing it, Vanora grabbed three of those funky looking stands from the back of the barn and dragged them to the front of where the group of students congregated. They didn't take any of the creatures out of their stalls, right? No? Good. "Good afternoon, everyone." At least, she thought it was the afternoon. Oh well. She did her best to smile at everyone, but it came out just a little wonky. Moreso after spotting the shirt Kurumi was wearing. She, of course, was wearing hers. She'd see if anyone else wanted to save the Jobberknoll at the end. "I was going to wait for more students to fill in, but I'll just start the lesson now." The sooner she started, the quicker she'd be done. Then she could go and hide in her hut again. "As you can probably guess by these stands here, today we'll be discussing a few different types of birds." Just a few, since she didn't have every type. *wibble* "So, before I call for the first one you'll be meeting, who can tell me what they know about Augureys? One answer per person, please." And as she waited for the answers to start, Vanora picked up a bucket and began to fill the feeding cups connected to the stands with insects. The Jobberknoll would have liked them. OOC: The lesson has officially begun! Please don't announce late arrivals, just pretend your charrie has been here the whole time! =D |
Text Cut: Sad Prof ;_; Well, someone was devastated. Cassia hadn't really felt very sad when she heard that the creatures died. She felt more curious about it. But now seeing Professor Newlin she knew that it must've hurt the woman . She felt sad for her nice Professor. But what could she do to her? nothing unfortunately. Then Newlin started pulling things around. Cassia looked cluelessly at them. Fortunately the Professor didn't ask them to tell what those were, like most Professor would. Maybe being a sad and devastated professor had it positives? Maybe. Birds. Cassia shuddered hearing that. She liked birds but except for OWLS. And her mean and evil owl in particular. And first question. Cassia raised her hand and spoke. "It's a bird." But that Newlin already mentioned. "It's a greenish one with black feathers." She added. "It can also tell what's the weather like." Um..she wasn't really sure of that last bit. Anyway, she knew about this creature because her father taught her about it during the summer in an attempt to make her ready for her second year or something . Though she forgot most of what he had taught her. |
Kurumi offered Professor Newlin a brave smile when she finally showed up. It was clear that the spark that had been there previously with the fire crab lesson was not there this time - and she was pretty sure that it wasn't because they were discussing a different creature today. Finally taking a seat on one of the benches, Kurumi set her parchment an textbook on her lap while she reached for a quill with her other hand. Augureys. It reminded her of when her and August had tried to cheer one up while they had both been on a laughing potion of some sort. The details of the potion were a bit vague, but not how much her and her little lion brother had been laughing like hyenas. Raising her hand, Kurumi waited for her turn before speaking. "Augureys, or Irish Phoenixes, are very shy creatures. It takes a lot of patience to lure them out of their nests, even with their favorite array of fairies and flies." She had waited patiently 3 hours once for one of them to come out, but had not been disappointed when it had. |
Laura looked at Minerva and smiled as she went over to where her friend was, it wasn't fair though the Professor hadn't even answered her question, which wasn't at all nice, but well she was too busy daydreaming about things that she didn't think before answering the question. "Professor it's a fishbird that lives underwater and is huge right?" |
Winter was one good season but when it comes to having lessons outside during that weather, it was just....a tad repulsive. Right now, all she wanted to do was snuggle with her puppy in front of the fireplace in their Common Room. Thankfully though, Professor Newlin had been considerate enough to have the lesson at the barn so the Ravenclaw doesn't have too much of regrets that she bounded off to attend it. It was noticeable that only a few were there for the day's lesson. Granted, she wasn't really excited to tackle answering questions, chatter with people or just talking in general so she settled with sitting on a bench, eyeing the animals and the weird looking stand at the back of the barn until the Professor emerged, greeted them, declared the topic of today's and popped out the first question. So. Types of birds. Not all. Only a few. Augureys, hmm? After digging her brain, she raised her hand, "Uhm. Augurey feathers are useless." Wait..that was a bit harsh. "I mean..when it comes to utilizing them as quill feathers because they repel inks." Yup. |
SPOILER!!: Kurumi His features darkened when the Lioness responded. "I really didnt want to use it either..." he mumbled back. "There should be some kind of school wide investigation, with so many birds dead in a single occurrence... inf fact shouldn't the Ministry be invo?--" SPOILER!!: Newlin And he trailed off when the his gaze shifted to the Professor. Merlin he can have a really good idea what she's feeling. He prepped his lecture taking materials as he listened to her start her class... Now what does he know about Augurey? "Augureys are native creatures to Great Britain and Ireland, although some colonies are found throughout Northern Europe." he offered after raising his hand. |
Sarah nodded as Kurmumi spoke, she really liked those t-shirts anyway. She went to go find a different seat. By then the professor had arrived Quote:
"By the way, do you have a t-shirt like that for me?" Sarah asked |
As Em sat there waiting for class to start, she found herself thinking about the future. She was still all confused and undecided about what she wanted to study. She was only pulled from her thoughts when the professor began speaking. What did she know about Augureys? Em raised her hand to say the first thing that popped into her head, “ Although we now know that they foretell when its going to rain, people used to avoid them because they thought their cries foretold...” Em trailed off unable to finish. She had heard about the Jobberknoll, and hadn't meant to go anywhere near the death topic. |
Team Jobberknoll! XD Text Cut: Destiny When things started to get underway, Sierra had the opportunity to glance around the area. Spotting the professor, she saw that the woman had on her Team Jobberknoll t-shirt..., and so did Kurumi Hollingberry, too. A year ago, Sierra would have had a fit over that, but she and Kurumi were cool now. Why would Sierra have had a fit? Well, because she was wearing her own Team Jobberknoll shirt, as well. She looked down at it briefly before turning her attention back to Newlin. Sierra really didn't care that much for saving the Jobberknolls. She just wore the shirt so Newlin would be impressed... ...anyway. Question time. Sierra raised her hand. "It eats insects, fairies, and flies," she said, making a slight face at the very thought. "...and it hunts for them in the heavy rain." Why, though? Weird bird. |
at work and don't have time to read others answer.. sorry if it's the same.. Quote:
|
Alex raised his hand. This was the only class where he actually knew stuff off the top of his head and didn't have to look at his notes in order to answer questions. "Augurey's often sing when it rains, but people used to think that meant death was coming. People were superstitious I guess," he added with a shrug. |
Augurey? You mean that bird, that weird looking bird? It looked more like a defected vulture than a bird to Kat. Remembering that encounter with an augurey years ago, Kat cringed at remembering its dull face. It was so thin, like a twig. And very delicate. And... ugh. Since everyone else had took Kat's answer, Kat dug her brain for another one. Augureys weren't that dangerous, right? "The Ministry of Magic classified it as XX," Kat said. They haven't said that, right? |
and a bit of Kurumi SPOILER!!: Professor Ella listened as Kurumi informed her that Professor Newlin had actually come up with the shirts, a small smile on her face. She totally understood the woman's passion towards the creatures, as she was very passionate on the subject too. The third year also totally understood the t-shirt for a cause idea, as she wanted to make Speaking of Professor Newlin, Ella really just wanted to hug her right now... But not the weird kind of hug Elijah gave her in the barn, a nice normal one. Nod. Nod. She just looked so so sad, and like she needed someone to give her a big bowl of ice cream with gummy worms on top. Ella could surely do that for her. Mhm! Oh...and they'd be discussing birds today? Tough subject considering. As for what she knew about Augureys, the third year raised her hand. "Professor, I've read that Augurey feathers repel ink, so they can't be used for quills." |
The professor didn't seem very put together at all and she wondered what that was all about and why certain people were wearing weird shirts. She would have to get with Elliot and see if she knew anything. Weird. They would be dealing with birds today? That should be rather easy. She raised her hand. "Professor they are thin and mournful looking birds." Kinda like how the professor looked right now, but she of course kept that comment to herself. |
SPOILER!!: Professor! Belle was kind of sympathetic toward the Professor, she did not look like she wanted to be here. She looked kind of sick but she gave her a lot of credit for wanting to teach a lesson. Then she heard her question and wondered if she knew anything about the Augury's. Belle had seen them once before. Belle raised her hand and said, "Professor i know these birds Augury's is it? They appear to be mournful looking birds. They were used for weather forecasters back in the day." Belle knew that information because her grandma would talk about them a lot actually. |
When Em arrived, Max sat up straighter, beamed at the girl walking toward him, and forgot all about the bird stands. He tried his best to shove the hanging scarf deeper into his pocket so his appearance was tidier, but he gave up as soon as she sat down and he hadn't succeeded. "Hey, Em," he replied softly. That was all he had time to say before Newlin entered and started class. Frowning at her demeanor, Max did his best to give the professor encouraging smiles as she spoke. Augureys? That was a cool topic. He stuck his hand in the air after Emmaleigh and elaborated a bit, "Well, err, their name is related to the root word 'augur,' which means 'prophet' or 'to predict'? And, err, 'augury,' without the E, is the practice of... divination of some kind. So... that relates to what they said," he used his head to gesture to the few others who had mentioned something about an augurey foretelling death and/or rain. "They're avian prophets." He thought that was funny. |
Vivi studied the matching t-shirts with some interest. She'd suggested something similar in her own essay, and she'd been part of the investigation into what had happened to the poor jabberknolls, but she'd neither considered or been offered a t-shirt. Apparently only people who didn't really have a connection to the birds or the case were given them. Odd. "They moan or sing when bad weather is about to happen, which used to be considered an excellent meteorological indicator. Except I guess it got annoying during winter months when it's just constantly bad outside, because most people don't use them in that way anymore." But there were always some devoted to their craft and to research, so Vivi supposed there were witches and wizards out there who were still interested in auguries and weather prediction. |
It was upsetting to see young Professor Newlin so sad. Eliza had never met the jobberknolls and only knew they had died because of the chatter in Potions class, so her hurt wasn't too great over them. She was still sad to know they had died though. I still want to know why though! She frowned at the thought, but quickly forced a cheerier look again for the sake of their professor. It wouldn't help her keep her chin up if all the students were moping too. Then they might have a big sad-fest on their hands and while touching, it wasn't the most conducive behavior for learning. Everyone had already said all she knew about Augreys so she didn't raise her hand, lest the call her a mockingbird, or a parrot - repeating back what she'd heard already. She took a few notes down about Augreys while she waited for what she hoped would be a meet and greet feeding time, judging by the seeds. As long as they didn't have to feed them fairies, she'd be fine. |
Oh. Birds. Not as fun as monkeys. But Anya could cope. She watched as her classmates rattled off information about the vulture!bird. She raised her hand. "Some people own them as pets." Or stole them. Or something. But she'd already shared that with the Professor before. |

Cora never thought that the one class she absolutely LOVED the most she could ever NOT want to be at. But there were too many sad memories here. Tears were in her eyes already, and Cora fought to be excited. She was excited though regardless. This was her FAVORITE. And FAVORITE PROFESSOR. EVERYTHING. Glancing at Elliot, who looked rather upset, Cora gave a hopefully meaningful look. Then she waved at Eliza, and smiled at Ethan. No time for chat, sadly. With the mention of birds, Cora perked up. She loved them, of course, like everything else. She knew a lot about birds, so she debated what to mention about them. "Augureys are extremely shy," like me, "and they live in tear-shaped nests." Cora liked other things that were shy. She understood them way more. She said all this a bit louder than her usual inaudible voice, with a small smile on her face. |
As soon as the Professor asked the question, Bliss thought long and hard about it. Now she'd heard of Augurey birds before, as her Mother actually had a few in the families animal rescue centre, but she'd never gotten the chance to find out a lot about them she just knew a few basic facts. So helpful, right? Nonetheless, Bliss raised her hand and told the Professor what she knew. "Well, Professor, they're bird that are quite mournful looking," she said, then thought about what else she could say. "Um, they can often be heard singing when it's raining or just before and that's why some people thought to use them as a sort of weather forecaster," Bliss finished and smiled brightly at the Professor. She wasn't one hundred percent sure that she was right, but neeever mind. She'd tried, at least. |
So....they were learning about Augureys...ahhh. The green birds, right? With the awful sound? She was familiar with this bird, actually. Quite surprising, seeing as Elliot hadn't had much familiarity with animals at all... She raised her hand, clearing her throat. "Weren't their cries believed to be death omens at one point?" right? She didn't know if anyone said this already, but she also didn't much care. because that was interesting. Obviously it's cry wasn't a death omen...death omens didn't even exist, did they? Or, at least, Elliot didn't believe so. The grim..it was all bluff, in her opinion. She would have said more...but...well, the Professor only wanted one thing for person. So...whatever.. And those shirts..Elliot couldn't stop staring at them. They were weird. Did Elliot want one? Did she...care enough? She HAD been the first on the scene..so she probably look good and--wait, since WHEN did she care about looking good?! She had a rep to contain..*nods* So no shirt, then. Nope. |
Even if she didn't really feel the subject, Louisa couldn't help but feel solemn when the professor's lip wibbled or her voice caught at some of the words. Poor professor Newlin. The Ravenclaw was kind of staring at the woman for far too long and too intently until the student next to her raised their hands and spoke. Clearing her throat Louisa raised her hand and cleared her throat again (it was her nervous/touched/awkward reaction). "Due to their moaning, like the others said, the Augureys were refused as weather foretellers." Everyone thought it was annoying. She would too. The Ravenclaw thought she'd make that clear since everyone already gave sufficient answers. |
The Professor didn't look very good today...not that she blamed her. Losing all those Jobberknolls must have been hard for her. For a moment she thought of how it would feel to find Felix dead one day but quickly shook the thought out of her mind. Felix wouldn't die; he was going to live FOREVER...just like her, duh. Her eyes followed the woman as she went and got a couple of those funny looking stands. They were most likely for birds but Lex couldn't help but wonder if that would be such a good idea. It was a bit too soon after the poor little guys died if you asked her. She raised her hand slowly. "Professor...those birds whine a lot don't they? Like they make sad noises often...kinda depressing really--and some people thought they only cried when they were warning about a death!!" Yeah...she knew that last part really well. It was the only reason she wanted one of those bloody things in the first place! If she got one she could make it cry then tell her step-mother she was dying; now THAT would have been funny but of course...her father said no... |
Relieved that there were no creepy fire breathing creatures from where he sat, Daichi's eyes first landed on Kurumi seeing her wearing a curious looking shirt and then to Sierra when he saw that she was wearing the same. Wondering what it was for, Daichi was about to ask but class began and he kept quiet. Wait, even the Professor was wearing that shirt! What was going on? what had he missed? HE WANTED ONE TOO NOW! hmpf! Looking at the Professor and the bird stand she dragged along, Daichi listened to her question before raising his hand. "You can't use the feathers from an Augurey cause they repel ink, Professor" he said and lowered his hand. |
Ahh. As much as Vanora didn't want to be up there, standing in front of a bunch of students teaching them about any type of bird creature, it did put her in a better mood hearing all their answers. It seemed like they really knew their stuff. And although she didn't want to have to talk, there were just a few answers that needed to be responded to. Quote:
"I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, but might I suggest taking a trip to the library?" Or.. you know, opening up her text book once in a while. Perhaps even taking a class that the girl would be good at. Like Divination. Quote:
"Stay after class and I can get you one." Vanora paused, and glanced around at the rest of the students. "That goes for anyone who wants one." Would it be too much if they started a fundraiser of some kind? She'd think more about that. Quote:
Quote:
Vanora had been waiting for that to come up. And while she wasn't much of a Divination fan, some of the divining methods were just wrong on so many levels, she had to appreciate that the subjects could be connected in some way. Creatures could be used in every subject! "Right you are. Augury is Divination that interprets signs or events dealing with nature. That includes bird flying patterns!" But if he wanted more information on that, she would send him right to Professor Elwood. Quote:
They were not annoying, though. "Can you name someone who kept them as a pet?" She was kind of regretting that question. SPOILER!!: DEATH! D: The one answer she was hoping would not be said, was said. Over, and over, and over again. Of course, if things would have been different, she would have been kind of excited to hear that answer. The misconception of animals and creatures was a great thing. But, she simply could not ignore those answers, no matter how much she wanted to. "Good job, everyone!" Except Laura. But she wasn't going to say that. "There's no way we can figure out why people thought that about the Augurey," she was not going to repeat what was said, "since those thoughts happened so long ago and people know better now, but perhaps after taking a look for yourself, up close, you'll have your own theories about it." She knew she had her own. Taking a few steps away from the congregated students, Vanora held up her arm and gave a whistle. It took just a few moments, but finally the greenish black bird emerged from the rafters and flew down to gently land on her arm. She was not going to mention how long it took her to get him to actually do that. "This is an Augurey!" Obviously. Professor Newlin moved back over to the bird stands she had grabbed earlier, just in case the bird wanted to.. get off her arm. She couldn't finish the lesson with him being so clingy. "He's shy, but if you want to, you can all come up, one at a time, though, to feed or pet him." Birds liked to be petted. "Their feathers are just a little bit oily, which explains why they can't be used as quills. It also explains why they are such great hunters during the rain." Yup. And since the lesson wasn't just about the Augurey, the Augurey who had decided to perch himself on the bird stand instead of her arm and stare at everyone expectantly.. "While you all do that, who can tell me what they know about the Diricawl?" OOC: Thank you all for being patient with meeeee! *glomps you all* If you're going to have your charrie go up and pet the Augurey or feed him, just pretend they're going up one at a time. No need to actually wait. XD |
Text Cut: Professor Well, at least Professor Newlin didn't cry...yet. Because then it'd be all awkward. However, the answers seemed to be occupying her. Especially that some were kinda weird that even Cassia couldn't understand. And she happens to understand only weird things! Finally they were moving on. Cassia watched the bird fly to the Professor in an interested look. It always fascinated Cassia obedient some creatures could get. The second year jumped from her seat when Newlin said they could pet the creature. And because she was small and fast she managed to slip between the bodies and pop up in front of the Professor who was holding the bird. Cassia at first stared at it.You don't just reach for it without having a general look. And the bird looked cute and harmless so she reached her hand out and started petting its feathers. It did feel oily, It was fortunate that Professor had warned them about it. Because Cassia might have thought that it was dirty. Newlin might have gotten offended then and you don't want to upset an already upset Professor. After petting the bird like so many times and on all the pet-able areas ,Cassia thought of feeding it but she knew better than bringing her hand close to a creature's mouth! NO WAY! She learnt that dealing with her evil owl. So petting was enough for her. With a last grin towards the bird and the grin could also be meant for Newlin, Cassia stepped back. "It's cute." Yup that was the conclusions Cassia could ever get to. And as for the question, Cassia stepped back allowing other students to come near the bird. She paused searching for any info in her mind about this and that brough a smile because she loved one thing about this."Diricawl is a fat bird that has fluffy feathers!" the Snake said with a toothy grin. "Are they here? Can we touch them?" She's twelve...so she likes fluffy things...obviously. |
Jory eagerly joined the line to pet the Augurey. When it was his turn, he cautiously reach out and petted it on its head. The Augurey seemed to be enjoying it. "Hey, there,'' the boy said. He now raised his hand to answer the question. "Muggles know the Diricawl as Dodo,'' he said. Obviously, he himself until learning about Diricawls had thought they were only knows as Dodos. |
Laura was still daydreaming about Mick and so wasn't paying that much attention to what the Professor said and misunderstood. "The Library Professor, why would I want to be a Library?" Laura knew she had a big brain, she then decided she was too scared of the creature too pet so she stayed where she was, then the Professor was asking another question, "Professor Maybe it's a Quidditch Team that is full of dark creatures?" |
On phone, so I'm sorry if it's short and has misspells. They were going to PET that Augurey? Kat grimaced at first. She didn't want to but she felt that she needed to. Diricawls. Kat raised her hand. "Diricawls are flightless birds that Muggles mistake for a Dodo," Kat said. "They also have the ability to appear and disappear which they use in case they sense danger." Just to add more information, you know. |
Er...Hannah wasn't sure if she wanted to go up there and pet/and or feed that bird. She kind of stood back for a while and watched as the others made their way up there. She could get a good enough look at him from back here. Diricawls. She knew about them...somewhat. Anyways maybe if she offered up an answer she wouldn't bring the attention on her about not wanting to have anything to do with her bird. "Diricawls have the ability to appear and disappear at will. They are great at escaping danger because of it." Yup. Those birds were pretty awesome! |
SPOILER!!: Professor! Belle wanted to go pet the creature. It looked so beautiful and delicate. Belle even took some food to go help feed it, if it was hungry that is. As one of her classmates petted the bird before her, she was next in line and went put to it. "Hey little guy." Belle said as she petted the bird. It liked her touch it seemed. She felt the oil on the feathers. She admired the color of the creature. Then Belle heard the professor ask about a Diricawl. Belle did not know what those were. Belle then remembered what they were. "Professor i have seen some pictures before of those birds. I know they are Dodo's. They are very plump and feathery and they even sometimes have a funny way of walking." |
Quill to parchment, Kurumi tried her best to pay attention to her notes long enough to write down some notes, but she was far too eager for some hands on quality time with the Augurey. She had tried to lure one out with Salander one year, but to no avail. And then her and August had tried to cheer one up and ended up making each other look like complete idiots instead. So...right now would be rather refreshing. JUMPING up from her seat, Kurumi shuffled her feet over and waited in line until it was her turn to pet and feed and booooooooooond with the Augurey. Taking a small handful of bugs, Kurumi offered those first to the creature before she reached out to pet it with the other hand. Oh wow...it's feathers WERE more oily than she had expected. Could she just stay here the rest of the lesson? You know, petting the Augurey because she was FINALLY doing so? In her seventh year? "Does this Augurey have a name, professor?" she asked, glancing over at the woman while she continued to boooooooooooond with it. Okay...so she should probably return to her seat and let the next person have a go...but it was SO hard to do so when she was finally petting an Augurey... Still, she found herself able to pull away from the bird and returned to her seat just as Professor Newlin asked about the next creature. Diricawl! Those had been on her OWLs. Well, a few questions had been on her OWLs if she recalled correctly. "They are native to Mauritius," Kurumi began after raising her hand. "So that sort of makes the Diricawl a tropical creature that nonmagical people have mistaken for the dodo and believe they have gone extinct due to them not knowing that the creatures can make themselves invisible. While the creatures are still very much alive, the International Confederation of Wizards decided to let the nonmagical public believe that they hunted the creatures into extinction so as to teach them a lesson in slaying their fellow creatures indiscriminately along with raising awareness of these consequences." Which connected to their homework about reservations! Oh, tricky tricky Professor Newlin! |
Text Cut: Professor Oh. So augury included the divining of bird flight patterns? That fit with what he said even more! That was pretty cool how the two names correlated with each other, Max thought. "Cool," he said in response, but that was all - he didn't care too much further about divination. Ooooooohhhhh. They were going to get to pet the augurey? Hoorah! Max took Emmaleigh's hand, stood up, and ventured toward the bird. They got right in the line, and Max raised a hand to offer up an answer to the professor's question. "The Diricawl... erm... well, going off what they said," he gestured to the two who discussed the Dodo, "The Muggles think the Diricawl - Dodo to them - is extinct, because they've hunted them so much and they can't be found anymore - but they simply disappear and reappear elsewhere at will when they're in trouble." Then it was his turn. Max approached the augurey slowly and raised a gentle hand to stroke the bird's oily feathers. Oooo. "S'beautiful, isn't it, Em?" he asked as he stepped out of the way to allow his girlfriend to have her turn. It was beautiful as long as it didn't poop on them. |
Quote:
"Edric the Oddball had augeries didn;t he. Lots of them." She went over to the bird and petted it a bit and then fed it some bugs. She had a bit of a mental conversation with the bird, yet after others behind her started to grow impatient, she moved on. "The Diricawl is thought to extinct by muggles who call it the Dodo. It is a large flightless bird and it is from Mauritious, which is on the Indian Ocean which is also very beautiful place and many honeymooners go there. My great-great grandparents went there for their honeymoon, well actually a second honey moon, it was for a their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Yet they never saw a Dodo" Sarah said upon raising her hand. Yeah, Sarah liked going off topic! |
BEAM.BEAM.BEAM. How cool was this? An Augurey just sitting there waiting for Ella to pet it. This was really cool and Ella was super excited. When it was her turn, the fourteen year old went up to the stand quietly and gave a nervous smile to the Professor before reaching out a hand to stroke the bird. "Hello there." She said, giving the creature a warm smile. "I'm Ella and you're...well awfully cool." Mhm, it totally was. She felt the oily feathers and smiled to herself a little, noting that ducks also had oily feathers because they were in the water a lot. See? She totally knew things about birds. Oh...and Diricawls? Ella stroked her imaginary beard a bit trying to think of what she knew about them. "Professor, I believe a Diricawl is a type of bird that doesn't fly... And erm...can't it disappear when it wants? As a means of protection from predators?" How could would that be? Being able to just disappear like that? Ella wished she could disappear all the time. |
Oh, so they would be discussing birds this lesson.. Ethan gave Eliza a tiny wink as the little Ravenclaw had guessed correctly. The boy listened as the class discussed Augureys. They were pretty cool, he thought, but didn't really have anything to add as the rest of the class already seemed to know so much about them. Although Laura's answer earned her a strange look from the boy.. As Newlin offered the chance to approach the bird, Ethan stood and turned to Minnie. "Want to go up and see?" He was pretty interested in actually touching that bird.. and figured she would be too. The boy got in line behind a few others, then reached up to stroke the bird's head when it was his turn. Interesting feel to those feathers... Ethan then picked up a few of the insects from the feeding cup and offered them to the Augurey from his palm. When the bird was done eating, he stepped over to make room for the next person. And what did he know about Diricawls? The boy listened to the other answers given.. could he offer something that wasn't already said? Um.. no. But he was interested to know if they'd be seeing one today. |
They could pet the bird? NEAT! After watching someone else step away from the Augurey she promptly stepped up and offered it a wide smile. "Hi there little guy." Lex petted him affectionately. It was official. She wanted one for Christmas. Now the question was...how would she get her father to say yes this time??? He wasn't too thrilled the last time she asked for one but now she could tell him that she got all close and personal with one and didn't go all hostile 11 year old on it. BEAM. He'd be so proud. She ran her hands along it's feathers for a bit longer before taking her place with the others once more. Diricawl? She'd heard about those too but up until now she didn't have a legit reason to want one--"They can disappear and come back whenever they want?!" Okay. Now she wanted one. |
SPOILER!!: Ethan and Professor Minerva listened to everything going on and smiled when they were offered to touch and feed the bird. Of course she would take the chance to touch the animal. She loved animals, looking at Ethan she shook her head, "Of course I want to see it." Standing up with him she got in line behind him and watched as she touched and feed the cute bird. Then it was her turn. Touching it's head it was soft and she liked the texture of the feathers. She took some bugs and let it peck in her hand. That felt different and she giggled a bit. As she went back to her seat she heard the next question asked. Diricawl, now she read something, but what was it. Trying to think she heard a few of the answers then put her hand up, "Professor Muggles know this bird as well. " That was it, right.. what she remembered. Well she hope she got that fact correct at least. |
*pretends to have been here all along* Augureys. Interesting choice. Renesmee stayed quiet through out most of the lesson. She wasn't crazy on creatures, but then she didn't entirely hate them either. Just as long as they were clean, to an extent. As the green bird came closer to the rest of the class, Nessie just watched from her sit. She bit her lip and then pouted as the Professor began speaking some more. She was trying to make up her mind as to whether she really wanted to go up and pat the bird or not. It didn't look filthy, but at the mention of oil the red head cringed. Eww. Oil. Heck no, in that case she would just spectate. Driricawl. What did Ness know about these birds? Um...Pout. The captain slightly raised her hand. "Professor, I think they have a Ministry classification of XX?" Just a guess..but maybe if she was lucky it be right. |
Diricawls...hmmm, what did he know about those again? He knew SOMETHING, that was for sure, he definitely remembered reading about them. He choose to stay away from the Augurey as everyone gathered around it...birds and Alex didn't really mix. He liked to study them sure, but touching them? They were so bony, it was weirddd!! He raised his hand. "Because Diricawl's can disappear, Muggles believe that the "dodo" as they refer to them were hunted in to extinction, which isn't true. They're still there, just choosing not to show themselves to Muggles," he explained. |
Hope everyone is safe from the effects of the storm! Eliza beamed back at Ethan. She'd guessed right, which wasn't a huge surprise, but the stands could have very well been for some strange animal that she'd never heard of before. Another that liked to perch and swing, bats maybe. But no, it had been birds and she was glad. She liked birds. They were delicate and mostly swift creatures, able to up and fly away whenever they pleased. That must be nice, she thought. To be able to soar around whenever. She walked up to the Augurey and lightly stroked its feathers. They were a bit oily, but it didn't bother her much. She would wash her hands after class, like she should anyway. "You're a nice bird, aren't you," she stated more than asked. The emerald feathers were beautiful and she felt a bit sorry for a bird who bothered people when it sang. She thought a bird's song was possibly the best part about it, but she could see how too much of it could grow tiresome too. Diricawls? Before she could look up some facts about the bird, others had said basically everything she found in her book. She thought it was funny that muggles thought the bird was gone forever. Funny, but sad. Sad for them to never know it was really okay...but maybe that was a good thing, like Kurumi said. Maybe it would teach them to respect creatures other than themselves. Doubtful though, she thought. She smiled at Ethan again. He seems to be getting on quite well with Minerva. She thought it was nice that he was able to make so many friends, being new and all. |
SPOILER!!: Laura and Professor Mick sat at the back of the class, taking notes when necessary and laughing his head off at Laura's answers. He tried to keep the volume of his laugh down, but when his friend answered the question about Diricawls...Quidditch! She's hilarious; he would join her and make joke answers but he didn't want to get in trouble. He threw an eraser at Laura's desk and winked, as if he was sharing a private joke that she would only get. "Professor," he called out, raising his hand as everyone lined up to see the Augurey, "Diricawls are fluffy, plump birds that can't fly. Muggles refer to them as dodos." Muggles are funny, Mick thought to himself. He scanned the front of the class, deciding to stay in his seat. Augurey birds always creep him out. |
SPOILER!!: Professor Newlin Ahh...fascinating creature Phoenixes are., she thought to herself. She thinks that the Augureys are cool, though its feather is useless but they can be used as a weather forecaster. Well, just don't try to sing of course, she murmured. When Professor Newlin said that they can pet the bird, she hastily got up from her seat and went in front of class and tried to reach for the its feathers and slowly stroked them. She noticed the bird was liking her strokes and it even closed its eyes as Befelda strokes its feathers. Though the feathers were oily, she could feel happiness and care over the bird's face. While stroking it, the Professor asked about Diricawl. She know something about it. She raised her other hand and answered, Diricawl is a plump, fluffy-feathered and flightless bird. It has the ability to vanish at will. Muggles believe that they have hunted them to its extinction." she answered, while still stroking the Augurey. She then thought of its name, she asked the Professor, "Professor, does this Augurey have a name?", she smiled as she asked the Professor. "What is its gender? Look, the bird's loving my strokes. It comforts her...or him.", she added, as she doesn't know what the gender of the bird was. |

Anyway... "I don't know, Professor," she said, "but it seems like a sad, sad bird. Maybe it just fits right in with the heavy rain." Text Cut: Destiny Sierra watched as an Augurey descended upon them. She didn't know if she wanted to come up and pet it just yet, but she might just sit back and watch and wait for a while. There was no harm in admiring from a distance. So...about the Diricawl. How di they suddenly switch magical creatures just like that? Hmm... Sierra raised her hand. "The Diricawl has a Ministry of Magic classification of XX," she said. "This means it's harmless and may be domesticated." Why would anybody want a dodo bird? |
Oh, diricrawls?? Vivi happened to be an EXPERT on those, and her arm shot up. "Professor, the diricrawl, as you KNOW, is under-appreciated. They're clever and good at hiding. The Muggles think they've hunted them into obscurity, and they've never done a thing to make their powers and continued existence known. And they're not boring or ugly or fat. They're adorable." And anyone who wanted to argue with her... could shove off. |
Just because the barn was full of students and a professor, didn't mean the Vinora wasn't still hungry. The large vines crept through a venalation opening in the back of the building and snaked their way through the strawn-strewn floors until it stopped at a stall with an unfortunate Abraxan standing in it. The Professor must have been attending to it earlier and had left it here during her lesson. It came to a stop, all the while the plant had gone UNSEEN by the people in the place. Suddenly the vines shot out, grabbing the Abraxan by two of its legs and pulling it to the ground hard. The tendrils then began to pull the beast to a different venalation opening. All the people might have heard of the situation was the quiet and muffled neigh of a horse in distress somewhere nearby....before it was eaten. |
Kurumi was busy observing the Augurey and wondering when the diricrawl would make an appearance Quill down on her parchment, Kurumi looked over her shoulder at the stalls and cocked her head to the side for a moment in confusion. Err....wait a second...hadn't there been more Abraxan in the stalls before? Or was she just imagining things? It WAS possible the creature was just sleeping after all. "Um...professor?" Kurumi asked timidly while she raised her hand. |
SPOILER!!: Newlin There was an Augurey! Given his nature for such winged creatures Vickers stepped forward and took some of the bird feed in his hand, approaching the dark green creature gently, opening his gloved hand and allowing the bird to feed directly from it. Then the Professor asked about Diricrawls. Heh the games they used to play with those at the garden parties. Although most have given the answer to what they were even to Muggles so Vickers turned his attention back to the Augurey, which although generally pathetic looking, but its shade and quality of its feathers are one of the prettiest Vickers has seen on a flying creature. SPOILER!!: Umbrella Vinora See Vickers may have been half deaf, and he wouldnt hear any muffling or neighing of any sort unless it was happening right.next.to.him. But he does have is sharp sight-- and he definitely caught that sudden movement of an Abraxan dropping off like it collapsed or something. He still held his gloved hand aloft for the Augurey to finish feeding from it but he was now leaning towards his side, trying to peer into the stall where the Abraxan once stood. Brows knitting together, he was trying to figure out what happened. Maybe it did collapse. "Professor.... does the Abraxans also need feeding at this time?" |
Text Cut: Professor and MAXX When the professor made a comment about not knowing why people thought the sound of an Augurey was a death omen, and how there were theories on it, Emmaleigh raised her hand to offer an opinion on the matter. “Maybe it has something to do with the way the moan so much in the winter, and how winter tends to kill of so many sick creatures and stuff.” That made sense right? Following Max's lead as he pulled her to her feet, she fell in line beside him, hand still in his. When Max answered the professor's question, Em raised her free hand. “ It wasn't just hunting though. They realized that destroying an animal's habitat and introducing non native animals that would prey on the animals was well, a bad idea. In less than a century after they discovered it, Muggles thought they had lead to the bird's extinction. It raised awareness to the disappearance of entire species due to human involvement. Even with the bird's magical ability to disappear I'm sure a fair few birds were killed. But at least their deaths had lead eventually lead to something good like conservation awareness.” Not that it justified their deaths, but they hadn't died in vain. Em couldn't help but smile as she watched Max pet the bird before them. The word mournful was definitely the proper word to describe, but he was also quite beautiful too. She nodded as she reached out to gently pet him as well. “He sure is.” After a few strokes, she reached for some of the insects in the feed cup, and held them out in the palm of her hand. As the bird neared her hand, she squeezed Max's tighter, and closed her eyes until she felt him taking the insects. “Didn't you say your dad had one of these?” she asked quietly as the bird took the last insect from her hand. Text Cut: plant... Kill it with fire!! Still standing near the bird she had just petted and fed, Emmaleigh heard some kind of thud. She didn't pay it that much attention though because animals were always making some sort of racket. She wasn't worried until she heard a the quite distressed sound of a horse. She squeezed Max's hand, and said aloud, “That... doesn't sound good.” |
PROFESSOR (and Ethan) and Other things In answer to HER FAVORITE PROFESSOR's question, she replied, "Diricawls are wonderful. They even have the ability to disappear on command." Oh how she would love to be able to do that sometimes. She was already invisible enough sometimes, though. She looked at the Professor, and felt so bad for what happened in the barn. She had BEEN THERE THE WHOLE TIME. She still had no idea what had happened, and wished that everything had just been figured out. She wanted SO badly to continue her work in the barn, but knew she couldn't just go back now. She looked pleadingly at the professor. Did she think Cora was to blame for it? Cora never did find this out. Cora gladly went up to pet the Augury. Did she mention she LOVED animals? She extended a hand to gain its trust, and then gently stroked its feathers. She thought it was absolutely beautiful. Smiling, she turned just in time to see Ethan and that girl again. Frowning, Cora turned away, and walked a bit away from the group. Cora had wandered a bit too far from the group, so when she heard an animal cry out, she started in the direction. She stopped at an empty stall, where one of her absolute favorites had been. Screaming, she ran towards the empty place. There would be no reason for the abraxan to be out and about, would there? And besides, Cora was already paranoid about these things. "PROFESSOR!! The ABRAXAN!" She was already crying as she got closer. PLEASE tell me it is out for a walk or something. Please! |
Le reaction to the plant *nod* Lex was beginning to think that everyone knew things but her. Here was yet another thing that no one bothered mentioning to the 11 year old; a bird that could disappear. There were so many things she could do with that. Question. "Professor...can the bird make others disappear too?" Because then she wouldn't stop asking her father until he got her one for sure. They weren't extinct, as everyone just said, so it shouldn't have been a problem and she didn't see why she couldn't get one. Before the Professor could answer her question she heard something that didn't sound very um...very well...it sounded like somethin' was getting killed! But of course, this was Hogwarts. A perfectly safe place where stuff like that didn't happen. No one ever actually got killed here because the place was so magic and there were things to protect stuff. Plus every time she took a guess at something being dangerous it turned out to be far fetched. Suuuure the Jobberknoll died but like...they just died--that thing in the back sounded like it was actively fighting for its life or something back there! Merlin! Didn't animals know how to be quiet during a lesson? She listened to the others commenting--ah hah! So she wasn't going mad and hearing things!!! Good. The Abraxan? Feeding at this time? Doesn't sound good? Oh boy. She just kneeew where this was going and her suspicions were confirmed when a girl got all frantic after running down to check. Oh no. |
Minerva was listening to the class and all their answers. She was watching them pet and feed and bird. This was an interesting lesson, she liked learning about all these new animals. As they sat listening Minerva heard a thud and looked around not seeing anything she turned back to the class. Minerva jumped as someone screamed.. What the... Was going on? She turned to see a ravenclaw looking horrified over something... |

with mentions of Cora, Mick, and Minnie Ethan had taken his seat next to Minerva and resumed listening to the class and their answers. He vaguely watched the others interact with the Augurey.. wondering if maybe his parents would let him have one.. and still hoping to see a diricawl soon. He had seen one before, but never got to touch one or feed it.. maybe he could today. The boy became vaguely aware of some sort of commotion at the edge of the building. He glanced over at a few of the students as they vocalized concerns, not really paying much attention until he heard screaming. Cora? His eyes snapped to the girl as she was very visibly distraught. The Abraxan? What was going on? "Cora.. what's happened?" he asked, brow furrowed with concern as he started to make his way over to her.. but the voice at his side made him stop. |
Eliza heard a quiet, muffled sound as she watched the Augurey. Then, a horse whinnied from somewhere in the barn. Getting restless, are we? She figured it had just been time for the animals to stretch their legs some and didn't pay the noises much attention. That was, until she saw Cora come yelling and crying from a stall in the barn. What is going on?! She rushed over to her friend and tried to put her hands on her shoulders. Something about...a what? Abraxan? "Cora, what's wrong? Are you okay?" She searched her face for answers, not liking to see her upset. Eliza felt herself getting choked up and angry. Has someone done something to Cora? Why is she crying? "Professor, Cora needs you!" she called out in the direction of her teacher, not wanting to leave Cora in order to get her. "Cora, what happened?" |
Umbrella Vinora business Ella had been sitting quietly, watching as the rest of her classmates took their turn petting the Augurey, when she heard something odd. It wasn't loud or anything and usually she would have just ignored it but several other classmates seemed distracted as well. The third year followed Kurumi's gaze to where an Abraxan had been standing only moments before and blinked several times, confused. Huh? Could Abraxans disappear just like the Diricawl could? Ella was puzzled... O__O And then people were FREAKING OUT, which honestly wasn't the best choice in a situation like this. Especially when Professor Newlin was already in a delicate state. Ella looked around at the older students, hoping they would know what to do. "Erm...people should stop yelling and just wait quietly until Professor Newlin tells us what to do." Cause honestly, Ella hadn't seen anything other than a disappearing Abraxan and she didn't know why everyone was so scared. She did know that screaming wasn't going to help, though. |
Text Cut: Ella Harvey looked around to see what everyone was screaming about, only to notice the Abraxan had gone. He looked around the grounds maybe it ran off somewhere or something, but he couldnt see any tell-tale signs of it having gone. Had something taken it? He then moved closer to Ella ready to protect her if necessary! He stood next to her as she told nearby people to stop yelling since there was a professor nearby. "I think you are right Ella.. need to think with a clear mind on this and I agree we just have to listen to the professor" he then looked round to see if he could see anything strange, even though the professor was there he was not taking any chances when it came to Ella. He knew that she would be able to look after herself if she saw something coming, but what if she didnt see it coming... thats where Harvey came in! |
Chaos had seem to break loose and Alex had no idea why--then he heard it. Something was up with the Abraxon. He wasn't sure what, he just heard a weird noise come from the animal distantly. "Professor?" he asked, raising a hand. "The abraxon is making weird noises," he said in agreement with the others who had already brought it to her attention. |
O_o Sierra had been casually sitting there, minding her own business and listening to the answers of others, when she heard the muffled sound of an Abraxan nearby. Her eyebrows furrowed inward as she listened to the reactions. Was...the sound anything unusual? Horses, even winged ones, neighed, right? Sierra listened to see if the Abraxan needed anything else, but...all seemed to be okay. "Whatever it needed," Sierra said, looking over at her brother, "it seems to have it now. I don't hear it anymore." |

"We'll get to that in a minute." Quote:
Laura did know that she was in a Magical Creatures class, right? And despite the fact that she had mentioned dark creatures, the girl should know by now that she wouldn't be teaching them about those. That was Professor Romanos' area. And Quidditch, she didn't even need to get into that. "If you say so." Was all she was going to say about that. Quote:
Quote:
perhaps it was about time that she thought of naming all the creatures in the barn. It wasn't like she didn't want to name them, because she did! But there were just so many creatures! And she really was a horrible name picker. Kurumi knew her coati's name, after all. "He," Vanora glanced over at Befelda and gave her a smile. "does not have a name. There's an attachment that comes with naming a creature. And since these aren't technically mine.." She didn't have to finish that. She did nod her head, though. Of course the bird was comforted. Being petted felt nice.. she figured. Quote:
Wearing a jellyfish hat, though. That could be interesting. Quote:
But, they were only theories. She was, in no way, telling the Hufflepuff she was wrong. SPOILER!!: the evil plant with almost the same name D: And.. students were getting off track. Vanora may have been in her own little world, it was known to happen when she was talking about creatures, but she was more than certain that she had not mentioned anything about an Abraxan. And she would have mentioned that she had already fed them if it hadn't been for Eliza and little Cora's crying, and she couldn't help but make a face. She liked kids, she really did. But having to deal with them crying.. that was just something that she couldn't do. "Umm.." she glanced around nervously, hoping that a different adult would stop by and just swoop the girl away. But no such luck. And since there was talk about the winged horse making weird noises, she supposed she had to get closer anyway. Giving the Augurey a quick look, just to make sure he wasn't freaking out as much as she was, Vanora slowly made her way over to the Ravenclaw, first peeking inside the now empty stall. "It's okay, you don't have to cry." Really. She didn't. So, could she please stop? "I just left the stall unlocked, so he could leave when he woke up. Which he obviously did." She gave the stall door a tug, to show that it was indeed unlocked. "And horses do make noises, weird ones especially when they're rolling around." Which he obviously had done, going by the hay all scattered around. "He probably just went out into the pasture." So.. they.. could get back on with the lesson, yeah? Yeah. She eyed Cora warily before slowing backing away from her and stopping next to the Augurey once again. Back to the lesson. "Well, time is actually running out for this lesson, so instead of me bringing out the Diricawl like I had planned," not that she could find any of them now anyway, thanks to the crying. "I'm just going to bring out the final creature." And if no one could tell by the look on her face, she was beyond excited for this. Holding up a finger, to let them all know to wait a minute, they had wasted more than that anyway, Vanora grabbed one of the bird stands and dragged it into one of the creature stalls. She was gone for really only a minute before returning. Only this time, the bird stand was not vacant. Perched right on top sat a brightly feathered bird of only orange. She was still considered a baby! Professor Newlin BEAMED at the students while stroking the bird's feathers. "Who can tell me what they know about her?" And could anyone guess what they were going to do afterwards!? |
Seeeee? It was just like she thought. Even the Professor was saying there was nothing wrong. gosh, these people were just sooooo dramatic. It must have gone out like the Professor said. There was no need for people to be crying; Laura did enough of that for everyone already. Just like she'd been thinking earlier, her idea would have been pretty far fetched. An Abraxan dying? Ridiculous. They would have seen it. Right. Now she could move on. Judging by the enthusiasm the Professor had she could tell that the next thing would be super cool. She watched her every move until she disappeared and reappeared with a very prettiful colour...it would have been better in blue though...just saying. WAIT!! She knew what that thing was!! "Professor, that bird!" She barely managed to start. She'd only seen one once. "That--it's song can make you go mad can't it?? My aunt had one...she said she liked the music it made.....we don't visit her anymore..." Though she really should. The woman had really loosened up since acquiring the bird. She was actually fun now! Though unfortunately her father disagreed. Meh. |
It appeared that her classmates were making a fuss about nothing, and Vivi refused to be drawn in to their drama. They were learning about some fascinating creatures today, and she very much wanted to hear everything she could. Tiny... orange... baby bird thing. Hmm. What could it be? "Professor, is that a Fwooper? Like Lex was saying, they can make a person go mad if they hear the song so people have to keep a Silencing Charm on them at all times." It really was a shame they couldn't hang out with the diricrawl, so Vivi added a helpful, "Can I stay after and see the diricrawl, please? And maybe help you name it?" |
Laura looked at the Professor and smiled. "It's a dinosaur." Laura hadn't seen anything like it so how was she suppost to know what it was. "Professor I though Dinosaurs were extinct though something either to do with a weird ice-age where everything turned to ice, or something to do with something falling from space killing them all." Laura sighed, though if the Professor had one did that mean they could make more dinosaurs? |
So...they'd all freaked out for nothing? Ella was actually quite relieved to hear Professor Newlin say that the Abraxan had probably just wandered off. That put her mind at ease, especially after the whole Jobberknoll incident. Sheesh. Poor Newlin couldn't take any more strange things happening to the creatures! Ohhhh...That was a really bright bird! Ella smiled at it, trying to think of what type it might be. She was aware that Fwoopers were usually brightly colored, though she wasn't one hundred percent about orange being included in that list. Meh. She decided to go with that anyway since several classmates seemed to agree. "Professor? I also think it's a Fwooper. The silencing charm that has to be put on it, well it has to be reinforced monthly so they can't drive anyone insane!" And well, that was a good thing...the reinforcing bit. "Oh, and you need a license to own one!" |
Minerva listened as the Professor calmed everyone down. She still didn't understand why people were so upset. Trying to listen to the professor she watched as she brought the next bird out. It was a pretty color, but Minerva wasn't really sure what the bird was called. "It's pretty" she said not really knowing what else to say. She listened and a look of worry crossed her face as she heard the other students say about it's song making you go mad. Well if that was true she hoped the silence charm was placed on this bird. They had enough odd things going on, there was no need for anymore people getting all crazy over a bird. |
Kurumi tried to return her attention back to her parchment, but it was hard if not downright impossible with students jumping up and down and talking about...a plant? When had there been a plant in here? Blinking a few times, her attention was back on Professor Newlin when she explained that she had simply left the gate open for the creature to walk out when it wanted to...which was not a reason that computed with the Gryffindor at all. She had seen the creature when they had walked in...and now it wasn't there...which meant it had to have left the stall while they were all sitting here and they would have heard it. Even if it had flown out of the stall they would have heard it. Chewing furiously and anxiously, Kurumi jotted down some uncharacteristically messy notes, Kurumi looked up when the next creature was introduced. Um...there was a Silencing Charm already in place on this one, right? Still, the Gryffindor instinctively covered both her ears with her hands, making it impossible for her to properly raise her hand to answer and for her to hear what others had said. Uncupping one of her ears, Kurumi raised her hand and spoke. "It's a Fwooper, native to Africa and typically found in four colors, orange, pink, lime green and yellow." Which was why they were associated with the number 4 in Rowling's Runes. Oh! Vivi wanted to help name the diricrawl! Kurumi somewhat beamed over at the Ravenclaw for that and glanced back towards the professor. She wanted to get up close and personal with it too. Hands on was exactly what this Gryffindor was after. "May I as well?" And hands were now back covering both her ears now, just in case. |
Oichi's eye brows raised as felt something was not quite right about the way the professor said that the abraxan had woken up and gone for walk. It's neigh sounded like one of distress. However with all the craziness of her other classmates on the issue and class moving on she decided to just let her inibitions go for now. She saw the professor go for a moment and bring back a breath taking familiar looking orange bird and ask the class class what it was and she raised her hand, "Professor that bird is really rare, it's a fwooper, there song drives people crazy so I bet he has a silencing clarm on him I hope.". |
Hmm. Well that was weird with the abraxon. Alex turned back to the class and his eyes fell upon the bird. Oh coooool! He knew what that was. He raised his hand. "That's a Fwooper," he explained with a smile. "Most people think their song can make people go insane, so in order to keep one, you need to silence them," he explained. |

Text Cut: Destiny // Professor Newlin WHAT A COLORFUL BIRD. Or not. It was just orange. BRIGHT ORANGE. And it hurts Kat's beautiful eyes. Right, this bird needs more colors. A mean a LOT more colors. Now... "Is that a fwooper, Professor?" Kat asked. She did know fwoopers had those blast colors. And all that jazz. "If I connect CoMC with Ancient Runes, I know that the four various colors of the Fwooper are used to represent number four in the alphabet in Runes." |
SPOILER!!: Newlin The Abraxan went out for a walk? What like under the floorboards? He may not have said any of those but it was clear in Vickers' face that he wasnt quite buying that story. He knew what he saw, and unless the majestic winged horse shrunk to the size of a flobberworm there was no way that creature would've gotten out of its stall without them seeing it first. But the Professor was determined to move on with the last creature and with one more wary look back at the Abraxan's stall Vickers turned his attention towards those bird stands... and his gaze settled on that brightly colored feather duster "Its a Fwooper...." he murmured, suddenly gripping his bag and wondering if he had his ear muffs with him from Herbology class. So what did he know about it? "Fwoopers are known to come in four colors and such numeric representation are used in Runic alphabets." |
What was really going on it this class? She wasn't even sure what was real life anymore. She gave dirty looks to all of the people that were crying. Whatever was going on there was no need to cry. Honestly! Weak people disgusted her. She put her attention back on the professor and listened to what she said. Obviously nothing was out of the ordinary. She watched as a beautiful bird came out. "Professor, that's a Fwooper and they are beautiful." Duh Hannah. It was obviously a beautiful bird. |
Belle saw the professor bring out a bright creature. It was beautiful O__O. Belle could not stop but stare and admire the creature. Belle saw it's orange feathers. It was even more adorable since it was a baby! Awwww!!!! Belle sort of know what that creature was. "Professor that is a Fwooper." Belle said, she remembered they had a weird name. "They have weird patterned eggs i know that. But it is just as beautiful as the mother bird." |

"it is a fwooper," she said raising her hand upon hearing the next question. "Uric the Oddball tried to convince the Wizards' council that listening to one was beneficial for a wizards health. In fact he listened to it continuosly for months... He failed to convince them when he showed up at the presentation in his birthday suit wearing only a toupee, which actually was a dead badger" she said. |
Sierra looked up at the brightly colored bird. Oh, ...a Fwooper! Sierra had never actually seen one of them face to face, but it was most definitely a Fwooper. "That's a Fwooper, Professor," she said, raising her hand. "The bird is a symbol in the runic alphabet, as well. It symbolizes the number four, since its feathers come in four different colors." |
