Sierra had hesitated a bit at the start of the maze, but she suddenly found herself dashing straight inside, not wanting to waste another minute. The first thirty or so seconds was a piece of cake. All she did was hurry throughout the maze, making it from here to there in record time. As she did this, she grinned to herself. Had Hadley realized her maze was going to be THIS easy?!

Bwah haha!

Sierra rounded another corner, and then in a flash, the lights were out on her. She knew the lights couldn't have gone out for everybody, because she didn't hear screaming or any crashes. Great. So she'd been put in total darkness. She came to a halt, but it wasn't in enough time. She crashed into the wall of the maze, nose first. GAH! She mumbled under her breath then spent the next few moments fumbling for her wand. "Lumos," she said, once it was out.

The area filled with a small amount of light, but there was no way she could get through the whole maze like this.

So they had to navigate a maze with obstacles.. That didn't sound too bad, he had to admit it sounded kind of fun. Ethan was actually starting to enjoy Arithmancy this term.. even if he didn't completely understand it.

And then large hedges went up all around and darkness surrounded him before he was able to pull out his wand, fumbling it in the process. Just perfect, he grumbled, getting down on all fours to feel along the ground for his dropped wand. How would he be able to manage getting through this maze without a little light and a few defensive spells if needed? Still moving his hand about the ground, now a bit panicky, Ethan's hands finally grasped around that familiar length of beech. Thank Merlin..

Rising to his feet, wand now firmly in his grasp, Ethan cast Lumos. At least he could see somewhat around him. The boy kept slowly through the maze around the first hedge, keeping his wand out and slightly elevated. Nothing to worry about yet.. but he was sure there would be something to trip him up around the next corner as he could hear distant shouts in all directions. That didn't sound good at all..

The loss of light had slowed Sierra down significantly. She was only able to see a few feet in front of her and was no longer comfortable running around like she had been before. Right. Now she understood that this assignment wasn't exactly as easy as she'd pinned it before. If she was already having trouble, she didn't even want to think about what lied ahead.

Nevertheless, she moved on.

A few steps later, ...BAM! She ran right smack into a wall. WAIT. That hadn't been there a second earlier, had it?! She turned around and was faced with yet another wall. To the right was a third wall, and then to the left was yet another wall. So the only way forward was UP?! How in the name of Merlin was she meant to do THAT?! Sierra glanced upward and was met with...another wall!

She was closed in a BOX of walls! Hello, Claustrophobia! Ughhhh! Sierra hated closed in spaces and was already starting to feel panic coming on. She started sliding down one of the walls and finally ended up sitting on the ground with her head buried in her hands.

Jory watched as Laura cast the Freezing Charm. "Think it worked?'' he asked nervously. There was only one way to find out, wasn't there? "I'm gonna check.'' Slowly, the boy reached out towards the bracelet. He hesitated, his fingertips just inches away, then with a deep breath, he snatched it up.

The Puff was expecting something something to happen to him but he was perfectly fine. "It worked!'' Jory exclaimed, quite relieved. It had actually worked. "Here.'' He handed the bracelet to Laura. "Good job,'' he told he with a smile.

When she finally decided that sitting on the floor would get her no where she got up, gripping her wand carefully this time. "Lumos." A bright light flashed from her wand, allowing her to see the path before her. She continued down the path but once she hit the corner she saw the lights come back on.

"WHAT?! Talk about a total waste, couldn't you come back on before I had to go through all of that?!"

It was official. Nothing in this place had any respect for anything. She would have to speak to the Professor about this because it was getting ridiculous! Her walking continued, she was half expecting something else to just jump out at her but nothing did? Was it over? Had this been the final...leg...

There was no floor.

-____-

Why was there no floor?

Lex gave an exasperated sigh. Of all the things to take, the floor?!?!? Who came up with this stuff? She spun sharply, hoping to find another way around but as she did she heard a noise. She flashed around again and was just in time to see the floor appear again but then it vanished. Huh? Slowly she turned her back to it again and once again she heard that sound...weird...

So the floor was shy...?

In the next second, Sierra was aware of a bright flash of light, and she glanced up to see that in just that instant, the lights had come back on and the walls around her had opened up. Looking around, she could see the other students again, and she hoped with everything in her that no one had seen her crouched down with her hands over her head. At least everyone knew this was a trick maze, so maybe they'd understand...

With the lights back on, Sierra was free to hurry through the maze again. Only, this time she was a little more cautious in doing so. She held her wand out and at the ready, always looking around for something to jump out in front of her or for some other obstacle to come her way. She was surprised that nothing had come yet, but she was only about halfway through the maze...

She could've sworn she heard Pao just a head screaming something about a plant and following pure instinct she ran towards the source of the shouting. "Pao...are you okay...?" Her eyes were glued to the floor as she tried to find the vicious plant that had eaten Burbage and Runes guy. No need to be the next victim...especially if it already had Pao.

But then...

He looked fine...and there was no plant attacking...just some piece of vine. Mmm. Yeah...he was fine...

He heard a voice behind him. It was Alexa. "Oh yeah, I'm okay. I saw a bunch of vines, and... you know... Burbage getting eaten still kinda haunts me, so.. I freaked out for a second."

Sensing she thought he was a bit dumb, he moved on without saying anything else. He turned left at the next opportunity and almost ran into someone. At the next opportunity, he turned back to the right, this time checking to make sure the coast was clear first.

Suddenly everything was dark. "Oh not AGAIN!" Somehow he'd made a circuit. Backing away slowly, he left the darkness and retraced his steps. Instead of a right turn, he went to the left this time. Walking on for quite awhile, he came to a dead end. Backtracking once more, he took a fork to the left before he reached the darkness.

Soon he encountered a whole colony of spiders. "Eww..." They weren't huge, but the way they moved made him think they were gross. I don't wanna walk through that.. They'll climb up onto me. He pointed his wand and said "Petrificus Totalus," several times. Then he stepped smartly over the large group and resumed his search for the necklace.

As Sierra rounded the next corner, she actually saw the bracelet up ahead. She sort of gasped lightly and then took off running. She didn't get too far, though. the floor was suddenly far too slippery to walk on, causing Sierra to start slipping and sliding all over the place. She slid a bit more and ended up veering off the path she was and onto a different path.

NOOOO! The bracelet had been so close!

Up ahead, she could see floor with a different sort of texture, and she knew that if she could just get there, she'd stop sliding. She put her palms on the wall and pushed her way forward. A few minutes later, she was on the floor she'd been aiming for. The problem was, she was way too far away from the bracelet. BAHHH! She'd been right there, too!

You're to persevere until you get to the end when you'll be confronted with the cursed bracelet, in which you'll have to successfully cast Arithmos Revelio and then break the curse on the object. If you break the curse, then you will be able to touch the bracelet without it burning you and you may leave after. Good luck."

With that, she flicked her wand and the Arithmancy classroom was changed into a maze, with tall shrubberies separating each student...[/COLOR]

ooc: No i don't expect you to perfectly break the curse at the end of the maze. I do expect you have to fun interacting with each other, as you try to make it through. Feel free to interpret "interceptions" and "delays" as you wish; be imaginative. If it's something other than a jinx or creature you want as an obstacle, go for it. Be creative. I'd recommend a minimum of 6 or 7 posts. You can earn up to 30 points for your RP-ing efforts (not counting the points from before this post). But don't delay, as this final WILL be ending on Saturday Night, December 1st by 10pm EST.

They were being briefed on the task...A maze?...A maze with a cursed...bracelet at the end? Sounded like something stupidly dangerous. What was with these Professors?

Suddenly, Professor Hadley lifted her wand, shrubs bursting out of the floor to stand tall around them, immersing them in darkness. GAH! Wait! No warning shot?...Words of encouragement?

Bleh!

Withdrawing his wand quickly, Dylan started exploration. There was no better way to knock out this assignment out then jumping in head-first, yea? Famous last words? He stayed rooted to the spot for just a moment, whispering lumos. Light flooded the path in front of him. There seemed to be nothing in sight...but the Slytherin knew not to feel too comforted by this. The more dangerous things were those unseen...So, he stayed vigilant.

He'd naturally assumed stuff would jump out at him, with moving forward...but his first real scare came in the form of something coiling around his ankle. Flashbacks of the man-eating plant raced through his mind, causing Dylan to let out a panicked shout/scream. It was going to drag him away like it had Milton...wrap his tendrils across him like an egg-roll and eat him!...but then he remembered he was a wizard and had a wand; a sudden realization that had him scoffing at himself. Several Diffindo's later and the Captain was sprung, racing along the path again.

Leaving the spiders behind, he wondered what else he could possibly find in here. The longer he was stuck in between these stupid hedges, the more and more he felt this ominous threat of something about to sneak up behind him and grab him.

With every few paces, the Hufflepuff snapped his neck around to check if anything was behind him. Eventually, he got sore from his maneuver and gave it up. Especially given what he saw at the next turn.

It was a bright green bird. He recognized it at once. A Fwooper! He knew what to do. Pointing his wand, he cast a Silencing Charm with a loud cry of, "Silencio!" The bird's mouth opened, but nothing came out. It looked disgruntled. He just chortled and kept walking.

Pao took a right at the next corner. Then he saw it. Lying on a plinth was a bracelet. This was it. All that stood between him and the end of this maze was breaking that curse.

Something told her she'd have to continue backwards. The floor obviously didn't like an audience...though she couldn't see why. It was just the ground!! People walked on it all the time! It was like no big deal. Gosh, and here she thought people were the only overly emotional things she had to deal with.

With her back still turned in the direction she intended to go she made her way toward the strange floor. How would she even know when she hit it? Not wanting to question it too much she kept her eyes closed and took backward steps. Lex kept doing this until she felt herself hit against something. Her eyes flashed open immediately.

The floor was gone again...but she had gotten by it.

And she had apparently hit into a wall...? Yeah, there seemed to be a lot of those in this place. Moving on!!

The exit!! The exit was just ahead--that was the exit right? She wasn't sure what anything in this place as.

CURSE?

There was a CURSE to be broken? Who did Professor Hadley think they were, Aurors? Actually, he was just a twelve year old kid. And now he was horrified. Before he knew it, the classroom transformed into an empty, dark maze, and....

....
His lip quivered.

IT WAS SO QUIET. Theodore instinctively pulled out his wand and crouched down to his hands and knees. Crawling along, like a little spy. And it worked so well since he was a spy and stuff. He got about 10 metres before he heard something. It was a horrible creature-noise, only he couldn't really place what creature it WAS.

He just buried his head in his arms and laid in the fetal position. No magic would help cos HE SUCKED AT MAGIC, HELLO.

Was that... footsteps? Theo could hear them getting closer so he started to whimper.

Yep.

A Maze...like...those creepy weird ones? The ones that were quite tall and erm...sometimes little spooky? Shudder. Ella wasn't so sure she was okay with this.

...NOT that she was afraid or anything! PSHHH.

And then everything got quiet...and Ella gripped her wand tightly, holding it out in front of her.

...But she still wasn't scared.

..maybe a little.

And then it sounded like something was moving very close by and Ella blinked, looking all around to figure out where the sound was coming from.

What was that?

Now walking quickly, he rushed towards the necklace. He was so close now he could almost--

TRIP.

"Seriously, Mancini?" He'd tripped over his own feet. Lovely. At least there wasn't some pressure-triggered trap on the floor that like... ate you alive or something. I'd rather that than get eaten by a plant, though.

Getting up, he made his way to the bracelet slowly this time. Clearing his throat, he cast the spell. "Arithmos Revelio." Nothing happened. He tried again and failed again. Really? Not cool. Pao was sick of having first year skills. He disliked failure.

On his third try he was successful. The numbers 110595959 burned red after the semi-darkness his eyes had been accustomed to. Tapping the numbers with his wand, he said, "Diffindo." The numbers split apart where he'd thought they would in class. That was a good sign.

In that case... I have to figure out a spell that would shield my skin. Right. What spell could a first year possible know that could shield skin from burning? Um, shield... right. Like shield charm? But that was more a defensive spell, no? It can't hurt to try it, I suppose. The worst thing that can happen is that my skin gets red and hurts. "Protego," he said, casting what he hoped would be the solution.

Okay.. Minerva had enough, she wanted out of this maze and she wanted out now. She was even thinking about ripping the sides out, looking at her wand, she could blow herself out.. right... Looking for a good place to maybe blow up and get the heck out, Minerva noticed light. Following the light she came around the corner and she was out. SMILE Finally... she took a look in front of her, there was the bracelet. Moving quickly to it, she went to grab it and stopped, wait it was cursed. That was a close one Min..

Minerva then looked at the bracelet how was she suppose to figure this out again. Pointing her wand what was that reveal spell.. "Arithmos Revelio"The numbers then appeared. Oh that's when Minerva thought about her parchment and pulled it out of her robe pocket. Looking at it she tried to figure it out.

The movement seemed to be getting closer and louder and Ella was just the tiniest bit freaked out. It didn't help that the rest of the maze was silent... dead silent. All Ella could hear was that movement and her heart beating really hard against her chest.

...Was fourteen too young to have a heart attack?

Deciding she didn't want to stick around to see what was coming after her towards her, the third year started to walk forward at a brisk pace. Yup, no way something was going to eat her for dinner...erm lunch... whatever.

And as she continued to move so did that noise. THAT NOISE.

Shudder.

Hey! Maybe...it was an elephant?

...Here's hoping.

Heart still racing from the plant flashbacks, Dylan continued on...but at a quicker pace this time. Sweet Merlin, he didn't want anything else grabbing him. He just might have a heart attack.....

When he reached the end of that path, there were options of going left, right, or straight. All three looked darker than what he'd previously been in. So, how to decide...?

Eeny...meeny...miny...moe...Catch a Badger by the toe.......

Hmph. Right it was, then...

Making the turn, Dylan carried on, wand raised high...The hairs on the back of his neck prickled midway through. Was someone following him? It was a good possibility...considering everyone in the classroom was also in this maze...The Slytherin turned, shining the light from the tip of his wand towards the scrub behind him...

Shoes. He could see shoes.

What kind of creature wore shoes? It didn't take Theo long to realize that it was a human being. And that felt threatening to him. So, still lying on the floor, the second year raised his wand and muttered one of the very limited spells that he knew off by heart.

"Aguamenti!" SPLAAAAAAAASHHHHHH.... right at the victim. Okay... okay... did ya'll just see that? Perfect spell casting right there.

Theodore BEAMED.

But he was soon back to being scared, and he buried his head under his arms again. Hopefully the spell hadn't missed, cos it WAS dark and stuff.

Great.

Now Sierra had to find her way back to that bracelet. She had no clue how to get there, but she did know one thing--she was not going back the way she came. She had no idea what Hadley had done to that part of the maze, but Sierra wasn't going anywhere where she couldn't even stand on her own two feet.

Anyway...she wasn't getting anywhere just standing here, so Sierra turned on her heels and headed off in the opposite direction. It didn't take her long to realize the glory in what she'd just done. That place where the bracelet was? Yeah. You could actually get there by going right or left. She'd gone right before and caught the slippery part of the maze. All she had to do was go right, and...

...hello, bracelet!

"PRO...TEGO!" Dylan choked on some of the water, trying to block the rest from drowning him, considering it'd knocked him off balance. Was he about to get attacked by some huge water monster?! Had they figured out a way to incorporate that into this blasted maze?! Shiny his wand light towards the area it'd came from, the Slytherin squinted...

...but then his words were falling away. Something was behind him this time...and the reason Dylan knew so was because there was a hissing, ragged breathing...echoing from the path behind him.

He went to pick up the bracelet, still a bit unsure if he had done it correctly. Pao used his right hand so at least his dominant hand wouldn't be the one to get burned if he was wrong. Gingerly lifting the metal with one finger, he waited several seconds before anything happened. Sure enough, it was starting to get red and hurt. He dropped the jewelry hastily.

Now what?

He wracked his brains. He needed to make, like... an impenetrable barrier. Sort of like being water-resistant. Wait... he'd heard of a spell that made things wick off water. What was it, though? Impenetrable.. Impenuous.. Imparvius? That sounded right, actually. Clearing his throat, he cast the spell. "Imparvius!" Except... that's not what he said. He had said 'Impervius' instead. Shoot. Try again. "Imparvius!" Got it that time.

Once more he tried the bracelet, but he used a different finger this time. It wouldn't do to make the current burn any worse than necessary. Three seconds passed. Ten seconds passed. Thirty seconds passed... "I think I got it!" he shouted happily! Imparvius for the win!

...now how did he get out of this maze?

Right...Right...Dead End...Turn around again...Left...

Ella didn't seem to be getting anywhere even though she'd been walking for what seemed like forever. What made things worse was that she still felt like something or someone was following her. It made the third year incredibly paranoid! Not that that was a bad thing in this type of environment...constant vigilance.

CRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRUNNNNNNNNNNCHHHHHHHHHH

Ella stopped dead in her tracks and felt all the hairs on her arms stand up on end. And goose bumps...she had lost of those. She gulped, clutching her wand in a death grip as very slowly turned around.

O________________________O

Acr-Acro-Acromantula!

Ella stood frozen on the spot, eyeing the giant spider with a look of completely horror. The worst part? She couldn't even think of a spell. MERLIN! WHAT WAS WRONG WITH HER BRAIN?

dhkhgkfohgkfdhgldfhgldfdghkfhgkjldl

Willing herself to move, the third year's wand hand twitched which prompted the large spider to inch a bit closer. NOOOOOO.

And considering Ella's brain didn't want to work she did the only thing she could to prevent her from being eaten...BY A SPIDER.

She took off running as fast as she could, not daring to look back.

Kinsley?

Did the big scary beast call him Kinsley? Only his teammates called him THAT, so the boy lifted his head away from his fetal position and narrowed his eyes on... on... CAPTAIN DYLAN? Who was soaking wet.

Woops. Maybe he'd be proud of his epic spell casting, though?

Theo got to his feet and brushed himself down. A few grass stains here and there, but he was okay. "I... er..." He couldn't finish because everything suddenly got VERY cold. It was behind Dylan, so Theo peeked over his shoulder.

Some black figure was... was... COMING STRAIGHT FOR THEM.

"C-c-aptain..." HeLp? "Beh-h-hind you." And he was definitely about to cry, because his mood had randomly catapulted into utter depression. How WEIRD.

................... What.

Alec BLINKED. A maze?! Really?! But... FROWN. People got lost in mazes. And... he wasn't sure about this. Arithmancy... wasn't... really his strong point. Well... he was better at other things. Like eating. Really good at that, he was. But all this curse breaking gave him a headache.

And...

... Pause... He was scared. But... no one was going to know that.

Letting out a small whimper, the fourteen year old shuffled forwards, trying to take out his wand. His hands, though, started shaking and he whimpered some more. He didn't like the darkness. And he didn't like the fact that he didn't know what was going on right now. No. This was very... scary.

...

Okay, so a smart thing to do would be... to move forwards a bit? He had to navigate through the maze and the sooner he got it done and broke the curse, he'd be free, yeah? Yeah! Feeling slight better at this, Alec started moving forwards... and then...

"AAAARGH!" ... OOMPH!

Face... meet earth. Whimper. He wanted ice cream. And sweets. And... and...

... WAS THAT HIS WAND?

Alec shook his head and smiled a little at the piece of wood lying next to him. It... must have flown out and landed right next to him... right? There weren't some unknown forces around, yeah? Good. The Hufflepuff grabbed his wand and got up again.

"Lumos!" Oh AWESOME! Now he could see! ... A bit. Scary maze was still scary and... Alec was still scared. Okay... now... what else was in store for him here?

Ella was RUNNINGGGGGGGGGGG as fast as she could through the maze, bumping into several hedges along the way. Sheesh. It was as if she was a pinball or something! Not that that was worse than being EATEN by a giant spider! O___O MEEEP!

After what seemed like hours but was probably just minutes she stopped, noting that it seemed much darker now...and more quiet. Blink. The fourteen year old listened very carefully as she made a slow circle where she stood, searching the area. There was no sign of the spider anywhere and that made her smile, if only very faintly.

"T-thank Merlin." She whipsered, shivering slightly. This maze was no joke.

...

And then she heard a sound in the distance. It was familiar and yet she couldn't really place it. Hmm...Deciding to investigate because she was the Hogwarts version of Nancy Drew, she held her wand out in front of her and took a left in the direction of the noise.
