Oh?

Lex looked up from her parchment when she heard the Professor addressing her. Mm. She as hoping this wouldn't happen. Unlike the others, she didn't know the actually names of any of the curses. Yeah she'd heard of a few but she'd never bothered to learn their names. If you asked her, it was more important to know how to use them and what they did. Still. The Professor seemed like she wanted to hear a word or two from her so she'd humour her.

"Well...I don't actually know the name of this but I think there's a curse that causes you to vomit slugs..." Will threatened her with that once, he never did it again... "And I think there's another one that causes hair loss?" Yeah...she wanted to learn that one before summer.

Bazinga 11-25-2012 04:26 AM

Minerva listened to the curses and then put her hand up, "Professor there is the babbling curse, which makes the person babble whenever they try to speak. I think that would be a good one for breaking, because it would be really hard to try and figure out if someone was under it if they were say a talker."

Minerva put her hand back down and began writing the other curses on her parchment and notes about them so she could use them as reference later if they were to need them for the curse breaking.

Jory raised his hand again. "There's the tongue- tying curse, Professor,'' he said. Again, that name spoke for itself.

Cassirin 11-25-2012 04:31 AM

Hmm. She hadn't considered that standard curses were tied to cursed objects in this way, and Vivi was lost in reverie for a moment before recalling there was a question to answer. Her hand shot up and she wiggled her fingers at the professor.

"What about the Tongue-Tying Curse, Professor? The incantation is Mimble wimble, and it is intended to prevent one's opponent or victim from being able to speak on a certain subject." It sounded dead useful, as there were lots of subjects she'd rather never talk about again.

Steelsheen 11-25-2012 04:58 AM

Now what are curses that can be applied onto something? Vickers pondered for a moment, as other students began listing off the curses he knew as well. Slowly he raised his hand, unsure not of this answer but if the Professor would ask him for a counter-curse which is part of their discussion. "Professor, what about Fiendfyre? Its a cursed fire that is strong enough to burn anything, even Horcruxes"

Enigma 11-25-2012 05:15 AM

Ira had been quiet and hadn't answered the previous question, seeing that many others had give the same thing that she had in mind. She just doodled on the corner of her parchment, and looking around. And had become so engrossed with her sketching that she had actually missed the question. And it was only when Professor mentioned it a second time, did Ira pay attention.

Curses? So they had to list the curses. That she could do do. But seeing that so many curses had already been mentioned, she racked her brains to find a new one. And dark curses too were allowed, yes? She raised her hand up and answered, "One of the dark curses is Sectumsempra." And it was quite deadly.. She had read up on it in some history books, so she continued what she knew, "Its dark magic.. very dangerous. It slashes the victims even from a distance. And can also sever a body part if applied too.. perfectly" How could someone do that?

"I agree with the others, Professor," Kat said. "Objects with the Gemino Curse duplicate when touched." The girl's mind was not in the mood to think properly but she had to agree with the Gemino Curse thing. The effects of the curse, though, were pretty tight.

What. Hadley wanted more curses? Not the right time for Kat to have a thinking block. She was a bit tired today and she wanted to sleep but she didn't, she never did, want to skip classes for the weirdest reason ever. But, hey, house points for the win. "There's the Reductor Curse, Professor," she said. "It blasts objects into a lot of pieces when it makes contact."

Lissy Longbottom 11-25-2012 06:47 AM

Alex was trying super hard not to space out, but he couldn't stop thinking about Softy, his fire crab which was currently running around out in his fire crab pen all free and wild with no stupid classes or finals to go to. Sigh. He blinked a few times and looked back at the blackboard. What were they doing again? OH, right, curses and stuff.

"There's the Leg Locker Curse," he said as he raised his hand. "It locks your legs together and makes it difficult to get anywhere because you have to jump and hop from place to place," he explained.

SilverTiger 11-25-2012 07:44 AM

Kendall had looked up from her sketch as Professor Hadley had greeted her back, but had gone back to the butterfly shortly afterward. She'd been paying attention as the lesson had begun. She'd even written a few notes in the empty space around the sketch, but she hadn't piped up with any answers. They were discussing curses, which wasn't entirely surprising givent he previous lessons. So far they hadn't actually gotten into actual curse-breaking, though, so her mind kept going back to the conundrum that was if dementors had babies. Seeing as discussing curses just made her think of DADA, and she practically expected to see Professor Romanos appear.

So far, the other professor hadn't, and she'd heard Professor Hadley call out Alexa for suggestions, which meant she was aware of the people who didn't look like they were paying attention. Which meant her head came up again, shortly followed by her hand. As she'd thought of another curse that hadn't been mentioned yet. At least, she didn't think it had. "Professor Hadley? What about the Thief's Curse? I don't know the incantation," or didn't remember, "but it's used to keep people from stealing things. Or even thinking about stealing them, but generally it's cast on actual thieves." That sounded kind of like a superhero curse, except for the fact she was fairly sure superheroes wouldn't use curses.

Princesspower 11-25-2012 09:52 AM

Sarah raised her hand, "there is the curse that makes people's ears shrivel up. Apparently someone once was angry at another person and sent them a hat with that curse on it that made the victim's ears shrivel up." she said.

As usual Sarah liked to go off topic, "Can one remove a curse from a book, like the Sonnets of a Sorcerer?" she asked.

Uncle Moose 11-25-2012 02:41 PM

Oakey took notes of the ones being said as quickly as he could. As he finished he set his quill down. He heard a few repeats here and there, but another curse came to mind.

"Professor what of the Conjunctivitis curse, it burns and stings the eyes of the target, and wouldn't that curse be useful to the Curse Breaker? What if there was something guarding the treasure, it'd make for a useful distraction on a troll, or even a dragon." Cause everyone knew Dragons always guarded treasure.

Anna Banana 11-25-2012 03:28 PM

Another curse?!

...but it took forever to come up with the first one! Even then, it'd been a repeat of what somebody else had said. Bahhh. Sierra chewed on her bottom lip a little as she thought about another curse. Hmm... Oh! "There's the Oppugno Jinx," she said, raising her hand. "It has the word jinx in it, of course, but it's used as a curse, too. It causes a person or an object to attack the victim."

Like that one version where birds were used to attack the victim. Avis Oppugno, she thought.

Twiddling her wand between her thumbs, Nessie focused on what people were saying at the same time. She had already written down the curses on the board and wasn't entirely sure what in put she could add to breaking curses. She hadn't heard lots about the subject other than what she had heard today and as for curses all the ones she knew had been said.

All except one more she could think of. It was strange that this one of all curses appeared in her mind, but there was nothing better she could think of.

The Hufflepuff put her wand gently on her table and raised her hand as she waited her turn."Professor there's the Curse of the Bogies which gives the victim a very strong cold as well as a runny nose that may even make them collapse." She could go back to twiddling her wand now right? Well hopefully she could because she did.

Laura looked at the Professor and smiled. "The destruction curse?" Laura had no idea if it was right or not but she was going to have a guess and hope that she was maybe right.

lazykitty 11-25-2012 07:48 PM

So Sliencio was more of a charm than a curse. Which meant that she had been wrong. Which was okay, because she got a second chance. Emmanuelle took her time this time and went through all the spells she had heard. Once she had one that she was sure was correct (after all, it had the word 'curse' in it), she tried again. "The Entrail-Expelling Curse which causes a person's entrails to be expelled from their body....." Ugh, just thinking about it made her queasy. She couldn't understand how a person could actually use it on someone else.

HazelStone101 11-25-2012 11:03 PM

Jayden raised her hand slowly, smiling at the professor when called upon. "Professor, there is the Tongue-Tying curse... It binds the target's tongue to keep him or her from talking about a specific subject. This feature also allows one to prevent the victim from incanting.." She finished. Hopefully she had answered correctly and it was what the Professor was looking for...

Oops. She had stunned the Gryffindor perhaps, by calling her out? But well, if the Gryffindor wanted to be on her good page, then she had to at least try? "Yes, yes! The Slug-Vomiting Charm. Good. I'm not sure of the hair-loss one..." But slug-vomiting was a good one.

"Right, so inside this box..." She slowly and carefully opened it to reveal what they would be working with today. A small golden bracelet with four metal charms on it a serpent, an eagle, a lion, and a badger. "One of my most treasured pieces of jewelry ... seems to give me issues whenever I wear it." She pouted pointing to the redness on her left wrist.

"So we alluded to this in the last lesson, but what spell can tell you if this bracelet is indeed cursed?"

Holmesian Feline 11-26-2012 02:28 AM

Gideon didn't give another curse even when the option presented itself. Might as well let the entire class have their chance to give their own answer to the professor's question. He wrote down a few of them that were mentioned, new ones he wasn't quite familiar with, making a note to look into the subject. "Wouldn't SpeRevelio be good in this case?" he asked, supplying the spell that came to mind. It could be used to reveal the contents of a potion, couldn't be used to see if there is something out of the ordinary in an item like a cursed piece of jewelry.

Bazinga 11-26-2012 02:49 AM

Minerva listened to all the curses, wow there were a lot. Most she had heard, but some she hadn't. Then Professor Hadley took out a bracelet, wow it was pretty, but frowning as she said it gave her a red mark when she wore it. That wasn't very nice. Minerva tried to think how they could figure out if it was cures. Putting her hand up, "Professor, if you knew what happens with each curse you might be able to pin point the curse, but if you don't you could use a reveal spell to make the bracelet show you if it was cursed or not." That was right wasn't it, she felt a little unsure if she had that correct or not.

He didn't think his aunt had liked his input. But really, she should be more worried if I had named any of those OTHER curses. Mum taught me about the Unforgiveables and their illegality when I first showed signs of magic just to scare me into not using it before I was trained. So if he had known anything else at this stage... well... that would mean he was in with the wrong crowd. At least I didn't say what they did. Not that I actually know...

He was pulled out of his mental argument with himself when he noticed she was about to reveal what was in the box... "Oh..." he said, clearly disappointed. Then he clapped his hands over his mouth, realizing he'd said that aloud. He gave an apologetic look. But I mean... I've seen that thing so many times before... I was expecting some cool magical artifact or side effects of a curse!

But he was determined to make up for his previous two faux pas. He quickly riffed through his parchment with the notes from last lesson. He spotted what he as looking for. Pao's hand shot into the air. "Professor, is it--," he slowly and carefully pronounced the unfamiliar sounds, "--A-rith-mos Re-vel-io?" That had better be right...

Anna Banana 11-26-2012 03:20 AM

Sierra eyed the box with a suspicious-looking expression. What was it with professors and cursed jewelry? Sierra thought they all just needed to start shopping somewhere a little safer...

Sierra looked around the room as her classmates suggested spells. She chewed on her bottom lip as she thought about the spells they'd learned. She raised her hand. "What about...Arithmos Revelio?" she asked, remembering the spell she'd taught them earlier in the year. If she remembered correctly, using the spell would reveal a set of numbers, but only if the object was indeed charmed.

AlwaysDance 11-26-2012 03:28 AM

Addie listened carefully as curses were mentioned, but she couldn't think of any that weren't already mentioned so she just waited patiently for the next question. Spell to show if object was cursed. Addie heard Arithmos and SpeRevelio. Which one was correct? She felt that both could work right. Addie decided to raise her hand. "Professor can't Arithmos Revelio and SpeRevelio both work?" she asked as she thought out her argument. "Wouldn't Spereveal if it is indeed cursed, but Arithmos reveal the arithmancy behind the curse?" Hopefully she was somewhat correct and didn't make a big fool out of herself trying to sound smart.

DaniDiNardo 11-26-2012 03:35 AM

She was actually right? Well half right anyway seeing as the hair loss wasn't considered a curse--she still wanted to learn it though...no matter what it was.

Lex eyed the object, deep in thought. It didn't look cursed...but then, she didn't know what things under a curse were supposed to look like so she decided not to question it--

No way! There was a spell you could use to tell that kind of stuff?! Neat! She sat back and waited once again for the answer to start pouring in from different people and smiled a little when she heard the consistency in the responses...this meant it was right; either that or they were all wrong in which case they were all idiots. After scribbling both answers down she raised her hand and gave the woman a smile; she wanted her participating right? Well she would; using everyone else's answer. "Professor I'm gonna go ahead and guess that you could use either Arithmos Revelio or SpeRevelio." But only 'cause that's what everyone else was saying.

See? She could be productive and participate.

lazykitty 11-26-2012 03:47 AM

She had been right this time. Awesome! And now they were moving on. Emmanuelle had smile a bit as she noticed what the charms on the bracelet were. Kind of like a unity bracelet for Hogwarts, which really she guessed she shouldn't be so surprised by. This was one of their professors after all, they had to be for house unity. But it gave her a red mark when she wore it? Not good. That meant that the jewelry was cursed or that she was allergic to the material. So, how to tell if it was cursed? "Wouldn't you use SpeRevelio to see if the object was cursed, then Arithmos Revelio to reveal the curse?" Made sense to her.
