As you walk into the classroom, you notice that everything is exactly where it should be. The desks are in their perfect rows, the large one belonging to Professor Magnus is situated at the back of the room, covered still in it's usual piles of papers. The blackboard is off to the side and has the following written on it: Quote:

The whole charms verses transfiguration explanation was kind of hard to follow though Ella understood the gist of it, copying everything down in her notes. She was pretty pleased to hear that she was correct with the spells she had named as well. All that reading the second year was doing definitely had paid off. GRIN. Unfortunately, Ella didn't really feel confident enough to demonstrate a spell in front of the class. What if something went wrong? What if she blew something up? There were too many what ifs. Instead, she leaned her chin in her hands and smiled at the older students who were volunteering. She was going to get to see someone's patronus?! SO COOL.

Nigel was excited that he was going to see all these spells performed.
He could not wait until he could learn them when he was older. But since he was not, he just sat in his seat like the rest of the first years and eagerly waited to see the awesome magic.

She knew how to do all of the except the patronum charm, she was yet to master it. She looked at the six already owned students and sat patiently in her chair ready to see some spells. Going over the whole Charms vs. Transfiguration thing in her head until she fully understood it!

Kurumi continued to write down notes and paid special attention to when her question was addressed. Cocking her head to the side for a moment as she thought about what Professor Magnus said, Kurumi slowly nodded. She supposed that that made sense. She didn't know of any charms off the top of her head that would give you verbal control over an object, so that would do for now. It sounded like a branch of magic that the needed to do a little more personal research into. Nothing a trip to the library couldn't fix, right?
When the professor asked for volunteers, Kurumi's hand shot up. "I feel confident in performing the Porsectum Spell," Kurumi said softly...after realizing that someone else had already volunteered. Oops. Kurumi couldn't help it. It had been her favorite spell and she had suggested it, so naturally she also wanted to demonstrate it.
Not a big deal.
Sheepishly, Kurumi lowered her hand and turned bright pink around the cheeks.

Alyssa raised her hand and volunteered, and said, "I'll try any spell that no one else has volunteered for." having lost track of whom was doing what.
If all the spells were taken, that she would be happy to stand back and watch the other students perform it for them.

Isabelle was eyeing up the list herself as each of the kids gave their answers to her question. They were all correct with what they gave her, so at least they had a good idea of what a Transfiguration spell was. "You all picked the right spells, well done," she said, moving back over to her desk so they could all see her. "Although, technically, 'Multicorfors' is listed as a charm in textbooks. But it does a very similar job to 'Ristaris' so can also be classed as a transfiguration spell, but leans more to charms."
And that bought her on to what seemed to confuse a few of them about one of the other spells. "Charms and transfiguration are very closely linked in the way they are performed and sometimes in what they do. 'Piertotum Locomotor' for example, as Kurumi mentioned, animates a suit of armour so could be seen as a charm. But it also gives the witch or wizard the ability to control that armour with voice commands, and it changes the whole nature of the armour. It ceases to be a static thing, or statue-like, and takes on almost life-like qualities." She hoped this was making sense to them. If not they could always ask more questions. That is what this lessons was mostly about anyway. "And any spell that conjures something from the end of your wand - like water, flames, flowers, light excetera - are transfiguration. As Mister Messer pointed out, conjuration is one of the branches of transfiguration."
Rolling her sleeves up, Isabelle sat back down and scanned their faces. There were a few spells there that could be done this lesson, just to give the newer students a chance to see a spell in action. "Right then, now is the chance for a demonstration." Flicking her wand the list on the board disappeared, leaving behind just the ones she felt could be achieved that lesson. "I would like six volunteers to take one of these spells each - the one they KNOW they can do the best - and show our young first years how it's done. So which of my second years and up would like a go?" OOC: I only need six people, one for each spell, and PLEASE ONLY HAVE YOUR CHARACTER VOLUNTEER IF THEY ARE SURE THEY CAN PERFORM ONE OF THESE SPELLS. Isabelle isn't looking for anyone that THINKS they can. I'll take the first six older students that volunteer for each spell. What Janice couldn't do perfectly was Ristaris, Expecto Patronum, and Porsectum, so she raised up her hand and said, "Professor, I'd like to take Orchideous."

Oh, no. No, no, no. Delilah sank down into her chair, hiding herself from view. Nope. She didn't want to help demonstrate to the class, even if she WAS really good with some of the spells Professor Magnus had put on the blackboard. Nope.
She was going to stay right here.
There were plenty of other people volunteering, anyway.

But... before Nora could think of which spell worked better, students started volunteering, and all the options were taken. Sigh. Now what? She was going to sit quietly and watch. And take notes. Maybe she'd learn more by observing... or not?

Minerva shot her hand up hoping to get to do her very favorite spell, "Professor, professor I could do Ristaris.." but it looked like an older student was going to get to do it. She felt a little disappointed knowing she did the spell all the time and what better way to show the professor that she actually used what was learned in class, by turning her own hair or someone else's a nice shade of purple or even orange.

Seeing (and hearing) the Professor talking about volunteering, Dylan stood up. He could possibility demonstrate Lumos better than most people in the room, considering he used it almost every night of his school life. It came in handy for the Slytherin on his midnight escapades to the kitchen...and lake...Dylan had insomnia. Something a lot of people didn't know about him...
He didn't like to spread that sort of information about himself. Then, people started to feel bad for you...and the Slytherin didn't know if he could handle that kind of attention. "I'll take Lumos..." Quote:

Well, he knew what was wrong really but he'd never thought that it would affect him so much. So much that he wasn't even paying attention in class anymore. Bleh.
His attention was once again caught when Professor Magnus started explaining the difference between a charm and a transfiguration spell once again and how blurry the borders between the two were sometimes. Taking the occasional note, Lewis then quickly raised his hand just so he would make sure to pay attention in class again. I VOLUNTEER! "I-I can demonstrate Aguamenti, professor." They'd been doing it in Herbology a lot so he was sure he could do it. Oh and also in Transfiguration last term, right?
So yeah, he was certain he could demonstrate that spell without embarrassing himself. Quote:

You're going to be a mini teacher for this task, so you will need to have your character explain to the rest of the class how the spell works. Issy is there for any help though. ^___^ |

Wait. Whaa?!
Sierra hadn't realized that volunteering to do a demonstration meant going to the front of the class and doing an all out lesson. Her eyes got big, and she just stared at the professor for a moment. Was she scared? Duh. Of course not! She was just a little on the unprepared side, but other than that, all was good.
Right.
So what had she volunteered for again? Oh, yes. Orchideous. Gripping her wand, she put one foot in front of the other and began the walk to the front of the room. Once there, she slooooowly turned around, as if doing it this way would prolong things by hours rather than seconds. "Okay, so I'm going to show you how to do Orchideous, which is a Transfiguration spell that produces a bouquet of flowers from the end of your wand," she began.
How much in depth was she meant to go? Just in case... "The incantation is, of course Orchideous, and it comes from the Latin word Orchideae. It's said like this--Or-KID-ee-us," she continued. Did they get that? "Or-KID-ee-us," she said again. "The wand movement is pretty easy. You just move your wand in a circle in the air." She lifted up her wand then moved it around in a circle. "When you put it all together, incantation plus wand movement, you should get a bouquet of flowers," she said. "Just don't forget to focus on what you're doing and keep your intent in mind." ...and now she was ready. "Orchideous!" she said, moving her wand in a circle. A pretty bouquet of dark pink roses sprung from her wand. Thank Merlin. If she'd gotten in front of the class and failed at this, she'd have never gotten over it.
Pink roses. Those would make good potions ingredients...
She looked at the professor, waiting to hear if she'd done enough or not.

Jordan sat in his seat while he listened to others explain these certain Transfiguration Charms. His guess was that they were all second years or up. He knew a couple charms listed on the blackboard but had no interest in demonstrating or teaching the class.

She looked at the professor, waiting to hear if she'd done enough or not. Right. So Sierra was going to be the first brave soul to come forward. Jolly good. Isabelle moved to the side slightly to give the girl enough room. She also gave her an encouraging smile. She wasn't, however, going to interfere unless the Slytherin asked her to. They had to be able to do some things on their own.
Placing her hands in her pockets, Issy watched carefully as the demonstration took place, nodding as each instruction was given and then shown. Going well so far, now just for the finish. Poof! Pink roses. How lovely. And...for some reason not something she thought Sierra would come out with. Maybe she'd got the girl all wrong. "That was wonderful, thank you Sierra. Nice and clear and well executed," Isabelle said, holding out a hand to take the flowers from her, and gesturing with the other that she could go back to her seat. "These might be nice placed in the water Mister Rasting will soon produce for us. Talking of which - who would like to come up next?" |

| *copies Anna* -> Aguamenti! ^___^ Also, let's pretend this isn't long okay? The Kisapaths | Sila!Roti | -2 | TouchableHair | ToiletPaperGuy | QueenOfConfusion Okay, he really hadn't thought this through, had he? He was going to have to go to the FRONT and DEMONSTRATE a spell. In front of the whole class. Him. In the front. All alone. Demonstrating Aguamenti. Was he insane volunteering for this?! Apparently so. But that thought wasn't new somehow. He'd been thinking that a lot lately. This was only more proof that he was indeed insane.
Lewis hesitated at his desk for a moment, looking up at the ceiling while taking a deep breath. "I-I can go next, yes." Okay, he could do this. He could do this. He could do th- Was there any chance he could just leave? Pretend he was about to faint or something? Just run out? But no, it was too late now. He HAD to go up to the front. Plus, he was a Prefect, he was supposed to be a rolemodel and rolemodels didn't just panic and run out of class like this. So there. Plus, Sierra had survived too. OMG! What if he failed now, it would be the most embarrassing thing of the year probably. Deeeep breath.
Once he was at the front, Lewis tried his best to ignore the blush that had formed on his cheeks and closed his eyes for a moment. "H-hello." Yeah, that was a really really bad start. "Hi." This was no better. He wasn't here to greet them but to demonstrate a spell. Which was why he just simply reached for the bucket real quick in an attempt to hide his embarrassment. Hey, maybe he could put the bucket in front of his face somehow...but no, that wouldn't work either. Since he was supposed to show the younger students how the spell worked. And for that they would actually have to SEE him perform the spell.
Okay. Here we go. "I'll be showing you how the Aguamenti spell works. T-there will be water coming out of the tip of my wand." Hopefully. But he was going to try and get all of it into the bucket. Maybe he should say a little bit more about the spell first? Yes? He glanced at Professor Magnus for a moment before deciding just go with what he thought was right. Since he was SO good at doing the right thing. Plus, Sierra had done it too. "As s-somebody mentioned before...Messer?" It had been him hadn't it? Right?! Not that it mattered too much. "Well, as somebody mentioned earlier, Aguamenti is a conjuration spell and that's why it's considered a transfiguration spell. Because conjuration is part of transfiguration." They should write that down in case they didn't know that. Yes, he was even giving them some time to do that.
That and he used the time wisely to take a couple of deep breaths to stop himself from panicking.
He took the bucket into one hand to draw his wand - he should have probably done that before - and pointed it into the bucket. "The w-wand movement is quite...easy." Was he allowed to say that? That didn't mean that the SPELL was easy or anything. "You just point it at whatever you want to...or well, wherever you want to have the water." Obviously. And why was he so bad at explaining things? "The incanation is Aguamenti. And you say it like AH-gwa-MEN-tee." He was tempted to write it onto the board but then again he was no professor. And Sierra hadn't done it either. Oh, and he really wanted to go back to his seat. That too.
Lewis waited a moment, as long as he could get himself to, before clearing his throat and tightening his grip on his wand. "Okay, here we go..." Hopefully this would work out. "Aguamenti!" YES! There was water coming out of his wand! He actually smiled a little, relief clearly plastered across his face as he glanced at the professor again for a moment. And the flowers in her hand. They were quite nice. Even though they made him think of something else.
Anyway, though, how much water did she need? |

| Expecto Patronum! ¼ of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pls
...come again?
That they had to show the class?! João blinked for a moment in confusion. That he really was picked and had to show it to the class, whole of it? He turned at them slowly, trying to estimate how many students there were. They were enough to feel... awkward. Not intimidated at all, but awkward in a way. He shrugged the feeling off, though. He couldn't really focus when he felt some pressure, but who said they had to get it at the first try? Right? Right?! He was learning to be an animagus, so this should be easy.
Hopefully.
When Sierra and that Huffie kid were done with their demonstration, he smiled at them encouragingly, though he tried to encourage himself more. Not that he had panicked, no, but he noticed he had also chosen the hardest spell. How wonderful. Going to the front of the class, he turned to the crowd waiting there and smiled. Smiling always made things easier, right?! Getting his wand out, he said "I'll show you Patronus, a positive-force shield against Dementors and Lethifolds." He paused, unsure whether to go any deeper. "They are also used as messengers, though," he added, smiling unsurely. So, this bit of information was enough? He glanced over the professor, before going on with the actual show. "The incantation is 'Expecto Patronum'--" he said it slowly once again so that everyone could understand, "--Eks-PEK-toh Pa-TROH-num--and the wand movement is quite simple: you only have to point your wand at the... thing you want to send a patronus on. Then, you will have to think of your happiest memory in your life, and you really have to focus hard." Or else, it wouldn't be a full shaped patronus.
Taking a deep breath, he pointed his wand at the furthest wall and spoke clearly and firmly, while thinking his happiest memory: "Expecto Patronum!" and a silver fox shot out of his wand, ran the lenght of the classroom and vanished away. He looked at the professor again to see if it was enough.
Now, that was about the best patronus he'd ever performed.

Nigel sat back in his chair and listened in amazement as three spells were done. It was fascinating watching Sierra explain and do the Orchideous spell, Lewis explain and do the Aguamenti, and João explain and do a Patronus. He listened intently hoping to pick up a few things on how to do the spells. He hoped that later in his education he could do it properly after practice. Now he was just waiting to see some awesome magic from the remaining people who have to teach them the spells and he could hopefully learn somethings

| YOUR Nixy. || Prefect Rainbows! || Deniz'in Müzik Kardeşi Delilah listened to the instructions for the volunteers from her hunched position, not quite ready to sit up straight again. As Professor Magnus said they were to teach the spell to the rest of the class, Delilah's eyes widened. Wasn't that a LOT to ask of them?!
It seemed not, as the girl she'd seen talking to Aurora a fair bit got up and promptly showed the class how to conjure flowers. Then Aqua Boy got up and taught them that spell, too...
There was no way Delilah would've been able to do that. Not in front of people.
Then, João went to the front of the class to demonstrate the Patronus charm. Delilah sat up straight, intrigued. She didn't actually know what year he was in, only they were both Slytherins. And he could actually do the Patronus Charm? The girl could only watch in awe; utterly amazed when the boy's patronus shot across the classroom...
Was she allowed to applaud him? Or would that be rude, seeing as though noone did for the other two students? |

Annabelle smiled at the class. "Hi Guys and Girls i am going to be teaching how to use Prosectum. Usually the main use of this spell is to switch two objects with each other. The pronunciation the spell is PRO-SEC-TUM. Basically the wand movement of the spell is just a Swish of the wand. Now I brought a pair of glasses.." she said as she reached in to her backpack to get it out. "I also brought a slice of meat such as turkey from the great hall to replace the lenses of the glasses. Now look at the glasses, see they have the lenses. Now when i say "Prosectum!" and with the swish of her wand, the slices of turkey were used as the glasses lenses. She showed the class. She loved using the spell, it came in handy sometimes! "They key to this spell is to concentrate hard on the two objects you want to switch. If you lack concentration, it can go very wrong. Trust me i had it happen on my first time." Annabelle said with a grin. She hoped she did a good job explaining the spell and its use. |

YES, demonstration time. Theodore watched the prefect like a hawk, because she was doing the spell that was kind of his favourite. HE MUST LEARN IT, MUST!
But, oh... apparently he had been pronouncing it wrong for, like... ever.
He had always said Or-CHI-deous. Okaaay... Theo wrote that down. Wand movement was just a circle in the air. He wrote that down, too. And then he clapped like a seal when she performed the spell and produced a lovely bouquet of pink roses. Magic still marveled him, it really did.
"Professor, can we all have a turn?!?!!" He asked eagerly.

This was so much fun. Sarah watched with utter fascination as the slytherin prefect preformed the Orchideous spell and a flower came up. It was especially interesting the other bits of info. another slytherin showed them the Patronus spell. A Huffelpuff prefect showed them the Aguamenti spell. Another hufflepuff showed them the switching spell -Prosectum. This was sooo cool. Sarah took down copious notes. Her hand itched to try it with her wand. Yet for now she practiced wand movement. First she made a circle in the air, and imagined a bouquet at the end... Under her breath she said the incantations. Her mother often mused that Sarah's vocabulary was great - yet her pronunciation was.. not so great. As she got her vocab from books. Or-KID-ee-us she made sure to see, although in her spell books she always pronounced it orchid-dus. with the ch as in China. Next was AH-gwa-MEN-tee. That wasn;'t so bad. Eks-PEK-toh Pa-TROH-num was next. although probably that incantation part wasn't the hardest. It usually is the fear or not having a happy memory that is the hardest. PRO-SEC-TUM had the easiest pronunciation by far.

Lewis looked nervous. This could either turned out well - i.e he overcame it and did excellently - or he flooded the classroom. Time would tell. Issy bit her lip when he wasn't looking, worried it might turn into the latter.
Of course, when he DID look in her direction for prompting, she gave a wide grin. Show no fear, isn't that what they say? And anyway once he'd started he seemed to be going fine. Explanation was correct. Pronunciation and wand movements as well. The kids could see what he was doing. If they were paying attention anyway. The bucket was filling nicely.
The bucket was --- "Errr, thank you Mister Rasting. Very good. And I think that's enough water, don't you? The bucket will get too heavy otherwise." And we don't want you dropping it on your foot, do we? Quote:

Once Lewis had returned to his seat it was on to the next volunteer.
Hmm, now for the really hard spell. Isabelle was glad it was a seventh year who was going to attempt this. More chance of them all seeing a fully formed one. She knew how difficult it was for the younger students to do. It had taken her a few years to get her Otter and not just wisps of smoke.
Honestly, she had to admit that they would all make good teachers so far. Thorough explanation from all of them, and good demonstrations overall. And Joao was no different. His patronus was mighty impressive, even if it did only last a few seconds. He'd get the hang of keeping it longer as he got older. "Well, Mister Neves, I must say you did that very well. Thank you," Issy clapped slightly, then gestured to him to retake his seat.
Next up was? Quote:

And that went well too. These kids really did pay attention during classes. Wonders will never cease. Although meat as lenses... Hmmm. Good example, not really practical in real life. But there we go. It worked, and that is what mattered. "Thank you very much. You can take the turkey with you if you want, no need to waste it," Issy winked at her and gestured to the girl's empty seat. Quote:

"Professor, can we all have a turn?!?!!" He asked eagerly. Isabelle was just about to invite the last person up to do their demonstration when there was a first question. Her ears perked up, and her head turned towards the young man who had asked it. "When Mister Gert has done his demonstration, and if we have enough time left, then you might be able to try doing something. But as a first year, I hope you know you won't be able to achieve this level on your first try." She didn't want him to get his hopes up. After all, the kids helping her were fifth year and over. They'd done these spells a few times before. "Does anyone else have any questions?" |

Minerva sat and listened to the older students. She wrote down the spells that she hadn't tried yet and watched the movements at times she began to move her empty hand to practice the movement and say the spell to herself. She loved learning new spells and wanted to try them all.

The bucket was --- "Errr, thank you Mister Rasting. Very good. And I think that's enough water, don't you? The bucket will get too heavy otherwise." And we don't want you dropping it on your foot, do we? Okay, ooookay, the bucket was starting to get a little heavy. Did that mean he should stop pouring water into it? He could also just put it on the floor. Though he wasn't sure he could do that without spilling it anymore. Best thing to do was just wait and not move too much and hope that his arm wasn't about to fall off. If taken literally then that was bound to result in quite a mess. All that water on the floor. And then his arm just...
But he was digressing. Probably because he was trying to think of ANYTHING but the way his arm was starting to hurt. Which he briefly forgot all about when Professor Magnus told him that his demonstration had been 'very good'. "T-thank you, professor." He blushed a little but smiled slightly nonetheless at the professor's compliment. Somehow he was slowly starting to feel a little light-headed. Probably because of the way the bucket was starting to cut off his circulation in his hand. Not that that made a lot of sense. "Finite!" Thank MERLIN it was right then that Professor Magnus told him that there was enough water in the bucket now. Only what now? He knew that if he moved too much that he would mostly likely spill all the water on the floor, or himself or the people sitting in the first row. His one hand was shaking enough already as it was. So instead he used a silent Hover Charm to slowly, very slowly set the bucket back onto the desk it had been sitting on before. Could he go now?
After waiting a few seconds to see if Professor Magnus still needed anything, Lewis quickly hurried back to his seat when it seemed that she didn't. No need to stand in front of the class any longer than necessary. At least now he could sit back and just watch the other volunteers demonstrate their spells. Oooh, that one Slytherin boy had managed to conjure a Patronus. And it had a distinct form too. A fox. Lewis still didn't know what his Patronus looked like but it was definitely one of his goals for this year. Or next. |

Elliot watched all of the demonstrations...took notes, the usual in a class. But she had a question. Usually, she didn't voice her questions aloud, but looked them up in her textbooks. But she didn't much feel like doing that right now. So she shot her hand up in the air as soon as the professor asked for questions...
"Professor Magnus, how come conjuring water is considered transfiguration, but not food? And what about other liquids? Would other liquids not count as well because there are added substances to the water that make it an exception to transfiguration? Is it because the building blocks of water are not as complicated as foods and drinks?" she asked, loudly and clearly, with her quill ready to write down exactly what Professor Magnus said in response!
Aha! Elliot was so ready!
