| | The Terrace: Herbology Lesson Three Herbology Lesson Three
It was a lovely Spring day, and the Summer would soon be upon them, which meant... holidays!
Whether it was because the day felt lazy, or whether it was the tedium of end of year exams and the mountain of marking which would come with it, Seren wasn't in a hurry to do the prep for her lesson.
As you make your way over to the Terrace, you fine there are no pots, no plants -- other than those IN the actual garden surrounding the area. There isn't even a single sack of dung. The cute little tables and chairs, their white paint gleaming in the dappled sunlight that filter through the branches, are a lot more comfortable than they appear.
To the side of the Terrace you see the old blackboard which has been wheeled out of the greenhouses for the occasion. It reads... Quote:

Vickers lay the ash container on his desk and pulled the other glove unto his right hand. Picking up the root he peered at it closely and decided to start with the thicker end, scooping the ash from the container with his left hand and patting it gently across the root. It was delicate work, with the Ravenclaw constantly worrying that he was applying too much pressure or a wrong twist of his fingers will end up mangling the root. The tips he ended up dipping and pressing against the ash in the container, then shaking the excess off. It looked pretty covered up in ash. Was that all there was to it?

Milton had started to rub ash on the root. He glanced around at his classmates to make sure he was doing it right, and surely enough, he was. Assuming his classmates knew what they were doing, but Milton was pretty sure he had it down. It wasn't that hard. Which also made it pretty boring. Meh.
Milton turned his root over and proceeded to cover it in ashes, making sure he got all the nooks and crannies for full coverage.

After waiting a few minutes, Jory checked the temperature of the ash. It was cool enough to handle. He decided he didn't need gloves. There wasn't anything disgusting about ash, was there, except it got your hands black. Oh well.
The Badger took some ash with his fingers and began to carefully rub it onto the root's surface.

Milton continued to cover his root in ashes. He turned it every which way and gently pressed ashes wherever there was an empty looking spot. After everything seemed to be covered, Milton shrugged. Looked good to him. He also made a mental note that he would not being pursuing a career in Herbology. It was far to boring, in his opinion.
He put his ash-covered root back on the table. So. Was it done now? Or did they still have more stuff to do? Milton yawned and looked around. Was it nap time yet?

Messer continued to massage his root with ashes. He made sure that he covered all part of the root with ashes, he didn't want to miss a spot. Compared to the burning part, this part wasn't so hard as he think it would be.
Now that his root was completely massaged and covered with the ashes, he picked it up and went back to his table. So what's next?

Yay! The embers were finally cool so she could began the plant's treatment. She moved the container off of the embers after putting on her dragon hide gloves. She took off her gloves and went to go get her root. She wondered why she didnt just bring it with her it would have saved her the trip. After grabbing the root she walked back over to her ashes. After sitting down on the ground she picked up her gloves. Before putting them on she decided that she didn't need them, what was a little ash on her fingers.

| Post 5 Shoe!Girl │ Rebel Ravie │ Confundus Queen │ RP Addict Almost finished. Stella only had a square inch or so left of her root uncovered by ashes when she'd glanced down to find out that she didn't have very much left of the burnt remains of her letters. At least it had made it that far, and she took a moment to gauge the remaining tiny pile to determine if it looked like it was enough to finish off her root. She couldn't quit etell, so the next idea was to just keep going. She was almost finished anyhow, so worst case scenario was that she'd run out. At which point she would have to either decide between burning some of her notes or just leaving a sliver of root untreated. She was still hoping that decision wouldn't have to be made, and she went back to picking up the ashes carefully and applying them to the tiny spot left on the root in her other hand.
By the time she'd reached down to only find empty pavement where her pile of ashes had been, she looked to find that in fact it had been enough. At least, it looked like all the cracks had ash in them now, so all she had left was waiting to see if there was going to be anything left of the lesson or if they were just going to be excused. Either way, she decided she'd rather be back in a seat instead of kneeling on the ground, so she carefully set the root down on an empty piece of parchment from the pages she'd brought with her for notes. Just so she'd be able to keep the table clean once she'd gotten back to it, and she set the sheet of parchment on the table carefully before removing her gloves and setting them in her lap. She didn't want to put them in her bag still covered in ashes, but she also decided to wait until Professor Bentley had spoken again before she took her wand out again to clean them. Either way, her robe could be cleaned as well, and she still wasn't getting anything on the table.

Things were going well! Nothing was burning down -- except their chosen material. Nobody seemed to be getting burned... and why should they. If they had a brain and gloves they'd be fine right?
Wandering around, keeping her eyes on EVERYTHING, Seren watched as one young Ravenclaw seemed to have fallen behind. Weren't the Ravenclaw's supposed to be the smart, on-task ones? Quote:

Honestly... was keeping up so hard?
Checking the time on her watch, and seeing as most students were done, she clapped her hands together to dismiss them. "Once you've finished the activity, could you please clean up your area, any remaining ash needs to go in the compost bin and and other rubbish needs to return with you to the castle. Just pop your root back into the wagon as you leave. Thank you." OOC: The lesson has finished! You have approximately 24 hours to finishing posting/wrap things up before I close the thread. Thanks for coming!

Sarah cleaned up her area with a host of various spells, and deposited the ash in the compost bin. She took her mattered newspaper and scrunched it up -that would go inside with her. She picked up her root and put it in the wagon. "No - THANK YOU, Professor for the lesson". She then hurried inside to throw away her newspaper.

Alyssa quickly sat up when Professor Bentley started talking. She listened as the Professor gave everyone instructions and once she had finished talking, Alyssa got up and she started to clean up her area.
Putting on her gloves again, she picked up the container that she had been using to burn the carving and started brushing the remaining ash on her table into it. Then she gathered up the bits of her wet and soggy paper, squeezed out as much water that she could, before popping it into pocket.
Holding the root with one hand, Alyssa unholstered her wand with the other and pointed it at her table and said,"Scourgify". She first cleaned that and then pointed her wand at the area around her table and did the same thing making sure that she was leaving as clean as it was when she first came onto the Terrace.
Once she made sure everything was clean, she slung her backpack over her shoulder, picked up the container filled with remaining ash and holding the root with her other hand, made her way to the compost bin.
She poured out the ash into the compost bin, then placed the root back into the wagon before making her way to the Professor.
"Thank you Professor for another interesting lesson. Now I know what to do if I see some of my plants looking like they have been overwatered. Have a nice day." Alyssa smiled her thanks before making her way out of the terrace.

| Post 4 Ash Continued Toothless - Napoleon of Crime - Gryffinclaw - Owl Emissary - Pirate Auror - DoctorDonna Peeling back more and more of the newspaper that he had wrapped around his portion of root, Gideon finally exposed his pet project fully back up to the air. You could see the difference in the part of the root already covered with ash and the rest even though the newspaper trick had clearly already done quite a bit to help. Now he just needed to continue with the second step of the process, a decent enough supply of fresh ashes to allow him what he needed.
With the root now completely free, the sixth year continued applying the ash onto most if not all of the root. His fingers going back and forth to the pile of ash set forth beside him, careful not to overload it as he worked.

Kurumi examined her finished product in her hand after listening to Professor Bentley wrap up the lesson. Kurumi felt rather confident with her work, so she first dropped off her root in the wagon before returning to her work area. Seeing as she had already been doing little bits of clean up along the way, like her papers, there really wasn't much left for the sixth year to do besides clean her container with the remaining bits of ashes in it.
Walking over to the compost heap, Kurumi turned it upside down and used the palm of her hand to hit it hoping that it would get most of the remaining wood ash out of the container. After a few moments, Kurumi waved her wand to banish the remaining ash and then returned the container from where she had gotten it and gathered her things.
"Professor, will we be using these roots as part of the final?" Kurumi asked, her eyes darting towards the wagon. Like, replanting them and what not. Long term project perhaps?

| Task 2, Post 4 ~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Jory continued rubbing the ash onto the root. He was almost done with the entire thing. He heard Professor Bentley telling the class to clean up if they were done. He sighed. He could be so slow sometimes.
The badger scooped up some more ash and continued with his task. His hands were very ashy by then but of course he didn't mind one bit.

Ahh good good.. kiddies were tidying up and all.
Turning her gaze from one of the tables, Seren smiled at Kurumi. Quote:

And now it was time to shoo away any of the stragglers. "Alright everyone, it's time to get moving on! You don't want to be late for your next class! I'll see you all again for finals! Make sure you study and practice!"
And with that, she ushered students away before collecting her own materials and returning them to their rightful places. OOC: Thanks for coming everyone!
