The beginning of term, new faces, old faces, new adventures... yeah Bentley was excited. As she stood in the entrance to Greenhouse Four, she rocked back and forth on the ball of her feet, her hands clasped in front of her.
"Good morning everyone! The lesson will begin shortly, in the meantime please take a seat." She motioned her hands to a few rows of benches that have been placed near the entrance to the greenhouse for the purpose of that lesson.
OOC: The lesson has officially started, DO NOT announce your character arriving from this point onward, as they will be late, and late = trouble. If you haven't done so already then please read through the Herbology Rules and Expectations and the SS Site Rules. All SS Board Rules apply. Flesh-eating plants and dental hygiene? Oh boy.
Gideon had this vision of trying to take care of whatever specimens of the former all the while trying to avoid getting eaten by the very plant you were trying to help. Might even be close to what might happen, unless they were to gently stun them like when they had collected biting toadstool fangs. His dragonhide gloves tucked away in his bag, he bent down and retrieved them from inside the sachel before getting up to his feet to follow Professor Bentley.
Gloves in hand and required wand in robe pocket easily within a quick reach, he moved with the rest of the class further into the greenhouse. The set-up switching from an audience of benches to the workstations they would be needing as well. He listened as well to the questions being posed around him as well the answers seeing as you never knew what was going to be useful later on.
She didn't know what to make of EITHER gesture from the Slytherin boy, but Aspen was going to make a point not work near him either.

If you're bitten by a plant with poor dental health then bacteria, toxins and blood born viruses or diseases become a risk factor to your health."
"For this reason," she continued, "it's important to know how to look after your flesh eating plant and to ensure that you're aware of the condition of those teeth."
Now came the fun bit. "In the wild, flesh eating plants use a very different method to maintain their teeth than we do. While we opt for the toothbrush, which is a rather useful invention, plants do not have that luxury. Rather, they often use bark, branches and even the sinew from their prey to clean their teeth."
"Today however, we will be using other implements."
Which were still rather fun.
"Now, you all need your dragon hide gloves, if for some silly reason you don't have yours on your person, you may borrow some from the stores cupboard," she said indicating to the wooden structure next to them by the door.
"Once you have them on, follow me. Bring your wands with you... though you won't need them."
And with that, she led them a little further into the greenhouse where the work stations were set up. "Come along," she called behind her.

Venus flytraps weren't magical? well, how was he supposed to know that. They seemed pretty magical to him, they were like one of the coolest plants ever. And school had just started, why would he have looked at his textbook.
Listening to the professor's explanation for why plants needed good dental health was just a little unnerving. The flesh eating plants he knew of couldn't hurt humans, but she was saying that they could get bitten. Not cool.
Gloves? he had gloves, but not with him. The were in the castle, under his bed. good thing there were apparently extra gloves around. heading over to the cupboard, he grabbed a pair. With his wand in his robe, and his borrowed gloves he followed Bentley into the greenhouse.
"Gloves, gloves, gloves, gloves..." Pyrsephonie repeated this as she searched her bag for her gloves. When she finally found them, she pulled them out of her bag and slipped them on.
With her gloves on and her wand equipped, she joined the group of other students as they walked to the work stations.

Oh so they were making sure the plants had clean teeth so that if they did get bit by one, they wouldn't get all infected and die or something...wait, what? O___O Did this mean there was a good chance they would get bit? Frown.
Ella took down notes as quickly as she could and paid particular attention to what plants use to clean their teeth instead of toothbrushes. Branches, eh? That was quite resourceful. And what on earth was sinew? "Professor Bentley, what's sinew? Is it blood or saliva or something?" Cause Ella really didn't know.
Glad she had remembered to bring her gloves, Ella pulled them out and put them on before getting up and joining the rest of the group. She checked her pocket to make sure she had her wand handy and smiled when she felt the familiar shape through the fabric. Pulling it out, she continued to follow Professor Bentley to the work spaces. She was getting a bit excited because they would surely begin their task soon.
Flesh eating plants weren't to bad, right? They couldn't kill a person? Or harm them? But she decided this was a cool subject and she wanted to know whatever there was about flesh eating plants. They were epic. She also wanted to make an awesome plant that could bite people fingers of preferably an apple shape or pear or any fruits. She liked this professor. Hopefully the gloves she got were good quality.

The Ravenclaw quelled a sigh, he was getting that deja vu feeling from last term where he was nearly strangled to unconsciousness just so they can harvest a pod. He reached into his book bag and drew out his dragonehide gloves, unconsciously checking his limbs that were fittingly connected to his torso. He turned to watch the Professor lead the way further into the greenhouse then forced himself to follow her. Maybe he should write some kind of last will and testament. You know while he could still make use of his hands.

Why does it have to be flesh eating plants?, Stella wondered, even as she felt good in her answer. Not to mention Professor Bentley's response to the same, basically verifying she'd been correct. Just because she was able to respon d with a good answer didn't mean she actually wanted to deal with the plants in question. Whatever they were. So far all she knew was that they were in Greenhouse Four, they were flesh-eating plants, and the fact she figured they were going to be brushing their teeth terrifed her. At least she'd have to focus, to make sure she didn't get eaten. She hadn't even noticed the part where the professor had said they wouldn't be using toothbrushes, even as she'd taken notes on everything else that was said.
Finishing up her notes, Stella slid the parchment back into her bag, then withdrew her dragon-hide gloves. She'd already started carrying them around at all times, since she didn't want to accidentally forget them before Herbology, CoMC, or any of the other lessons that might need them. Slipping them onto her hands, she stood again. The professor hadn't said if they were supposed to bring their things, but she slung her bag over her shoulder anyway. At least it was comforting, and she figured Oberon might help if things got really insane in there. Once that had been decided, she started following Professor Bentley, making sure to look around as she'd gotten inside the greenhouse. She wasn't going to let any creepy plants jump out at her.

Adarian put away the notes he was taking. What an interesting lesson. He rifled through his bag for his dragonhide gloves but they weren't there. He then patted his robes to locate them in his left pocket. He put them on and then slipped his wand into his right pocket. After getting settled he followed the Professor hoping they weren't abount to get friendly with flesh eating plants.
Gloves on and wand in her little side packet inside her robes Jezzabelle beamed happily as they moved onward. She wasn't exactly sure what methods they would be using to brush the plants teeth but she was still excited none the less.

West ABSORBED all of this, entirely fascinated. He turned and BEAMED adoringly at his sister when the stuff she said got a mention and then did a fist pump and whispered 'I knew it' under his breath at the bark cleaning thing.
Dragonhide gloves! He had those! Aspen had made sure that they were part of the shopping trip in DA, even though West hadn't been that interested at the time. But NOW he put on his awesome new gloves (which were actually kind of stiff?) and followed along excitedly, wand in his also new holster. Despite the long winded response, Taylor was right, more or less. "Yes, good good."
Seren smiled sympathetically whilst tilting her head in Beatrice's direction. It wouldn't be that bad... it wouldn't.

Was she serious? "I would never let any harm come to you under my care. Nobody will die, and nobody will be gravely injured." ... unless they did something stupid. Which wasn't out of the question.

Well things were beginning to get interesting, unique answers always impressed her, even if they were wrong. Think outside the box kids.

........... feeling the need to steady herself, she placed her hands on her hips and took a deep breath. Eyes closed she replied in as calm a tone as possible, "No............ we do not let plants die.... self defense is one thing, the conscious and willing slaughter of a plant is an entirely different thing. We are here to learn not only about them, but how to care for them and coexist with them."
In other words... she would have her eyes on this boy.
"Yes, good good."

Oh dear ... somebody needed to do some reading before class. "Some flesh eating plants use their teeth to trap their prey, some use it to hunt their prey... but the DO use it to aid digestion ... just like us, by chewing."
Honestly... plants didn't swallow things whole you know. Not all of them at least.

The sheer excitement on this boys face made Seren want to hug him... and made her almost want to have one of her own. It almost saddened her that he wasn't a Lion, but that didn't matter so much.
"Well firstly," she started once it was clear that he had finished, "Centaurs are stong creatures, and smart too, I'm sure they could handle a flesh-eater." Unless they were lame or really really old. She clearly didn't know a great deal about Centaurs, plants were much more fun. "However you're quite right in that their teeth play a big role in maintaining control of their territory and in defending themselves from other predators." After a brief pause, she then continued. "As for your second point about how they attend to their dental hygiene, I'll get to that in a moment." She gave the Snake a small wink... he'd made some good points, certainly a good impression.
"Yes, very good!"
"Eat, yes... drink... no. Remember they still have root systems for a reason."
It never ceased to amaze her how Alyssa managed to elongate her sentences. Clearly reaching word limits in essays wasn't an issue for the Hufflepuff. "Yes, food consumption and defense are very important."
It was clear that Kurumi's mind was elsewhere, Seren wasn't at all surprised. Though it relieved her to know Kurumi had some experience with today's topic, so she wasn't about to fall behind the other students.
"Err... yes, though they're not as diligent with chewing as we are, so choking isn't really an issue, indigestion a little bit..."

It pleased her to hear him touch on grooming, after all, it was an essential part of life.

Oh of course! Angelina just happened to forget her gloves up in her dorm. Why did she do that? She tried to make sure she had everything she needed, but it all didn't work out to great... But when all fails she had to had to get some gloves from the cupboard.
Heading over to the cupboard she grabbed a pari of gloves and put them on. They weren't as great as her own, but she would have to just suck up and wait it out. It was her own fault for leaving them in the dorm, so she had nothing to complain about.
Once she got her gloves and pulled her wand out of her pocket she was ready to head out with the rest of the class. She wondered why they needed there wands, if they really didn't need them then. Angelina was a bit confused about this, but whatever.
Being very excited about the new Herbology lesson this year, Angelina happily fallowed their professor.

This herbology lesson was going to get interesting, Violet thought as she reached into her bag for her dragon hide gloves. It seemed like it was going to be a really dangerous lesson and Violet was quiet scared about the lesson as well. She followed Professor Bentely with the rest of the class to the work station and waited patiently for further instructions.
Now that they were probably going to be working with actual flesh eating plants - and Sophie didn't know their size or anything - the Hufflepuff was starting to feel a little scared. She was never a big fan of flesh eating plants, and even though Herbology was super cool, she wasn't sure if she would start liking them now.
Deep breath. She wished she were excited about that, not scared!

Kurumi sort of just stood there looking at Professor Bentley for a moment before taking a quick glance around the classroom to see everyone's expressions. Yep, shock. Which was to be expected. Kurumi had been the same way the first time she had dealt with Xavier in the greenhouse. Thankfully, since she had and had already experienced her first nip from the plant, she wasn't too afraid of...whatever it was they were facing today...biting her. Dragonhide gloves had proven time and time again that they were perfectly capable of protecting them.
Ahem.
Gloves and wand in hand, Kurumi made her way to her workstation and slipped her gloves on when she was there. Just...remember to breathe...

Ronnie quickly jotted down the notes into her notebook, eager to get on with the lesson. She really enjoyed Herbology, it was lots of fun! She finished her notes. Now, what next? Oh yes. Time to put on her dragon hide glo-
Oh. Oh great.
She couldn't find them. She was positive she had brought them with her! She frowned and looked around her feet in case she had maybe dropped them. No where to be seen. She scanned all around the area, not seeing any trace of her dragon hide gloves. Darn. Looks like she'd have to get some from the stores cupboard.
After retrieving some gloves form the cupboard, she slipped them on and after making sure her she hadn't dropped her wand too, followed the other students to the work station.

For crying out loud... Lily was not sure she was ready for that, no way. It just wasn't going to happen. It had been bad enough the last year when they had to deal with plants that could burn you. And now they were dealing with plants that could eat you. As Lily pulled on her dragonhide gloves and made her way over to the work stations, the second year's face must have shown of fear. This was way not cool. Even if she could trust Professor Bentley to keep her safe, the redhead couldn't think about the fact that they would be working with flesh-eating plants.
"In the wild, flesh eating plants use a very different method to maintain their teeth than we do. While we opt for the toothbrush, which is a rather useful invention, plants do not have that luxury. Rather, they often use bark, branches and even the sinew from their prey to clean their teeth."
"Today however, we will be using other implements."
Which were still rather fun.
"Now, you all need your dragon hide gloves, if for some silly reason you don't have yours on your person, you may borrow some from the stores cupboard," she said indicating to the wooden structure next to them by the door.
"Once you have them on, follow me. Bring your wands with you... though you won't need them."
And with that, she led them a little further into the greenhouse where the work stations were set up. "Come along," she called behind her.
Ariana smiled, excited for the fun part of Herbology to begin. Not that she didn't love just answering questions, but that could be saved for History of Magic and Arithmancy. What Herbology was all about was getting dirt everywhere and avoiding the Venomous Tentacula.
She took her pair of neatly folded dragon-hide gloves out of her back. They were brand new and shiny, as she'd lost the ones she used up until third year and decided to get herself a new pair. Ariana slipped them on, and put her wand in her pocket so that it stayed out of the way, since she apparently wouldn't need it. She then followed the professor to the work stations closer to the back of the greenhouse.

She took out her books and her other school things, and aw there they were, neatly pressed at the bottom, she put them on and said Professor, if they are flesh eating wont they hurt us? Not that the Professor couldnt protect them or anything she could! She took out her wand from its holister, yes she loved her wand so she cared for it and put it in her pocket, and followed the Professor still nervous about being eaten...

Yeah. It was official. Professor Seren was....getting scary. Nod. Nod. Taking out her parchment, she started scribbling notes without even looking at it so she figured her penmanship wouldn't be quite understandable. No matter, her real dilemma was the Flesh Eating Plants.
Listening and occasionally nodding at her classmates answers, she couldn't help but notice Dylan, yes, she saw him upon entering, and Aspen exchanging those errmm.....looks after they both gave their answers. The eaglette just shrugged. It wasn't really any of her business.
So, she was going to take out her gloves instead, put it on with expertise, follow Professor Seren....

Summoning a plastic spray bottle from the stores cupboard, she gave the nozzle a sniff before approaching west. "Hold out your hands," she said, spray bottle at the ready.
"Distilled flobberworm mucus... is extremely useful for improving flexibility for gloves, chilled or numbed plants, eliminating the squeak from doors..."

West obligingly held his gloved hands out for spraying. "Distilled flobberworm mucus." He repeated dutifully with the air that he'd remember that forever and then, "Could I spray some gloves TOO? If anyone else has stiff new gloves like meee? I'll be careful and I won't point the nozzle at anyone's FACES." Just because for some reason, people expected him to do that sort of thing. The firstie was BOUNCING in eagerness. EAGERNESS. Quickdraw McWest!
ALSO THIS WAS THE BEST CLASS EVER! Though West had to stop himself from being crestfallen that he couldn't work with the plants with the BIG teeth. But... but if he did good with the geranium maybe? Mayyyybe? He would be WATCHING with great interest at least.
And his geranium would be SO PERFECTLY FLOSSED AND BRUSHED.

Fannged Geraniums didn't sound half as bad as Pirannah plants. The first year put on her gloves and listened to the answers everyone else had given - she wasn't scared of fanged flesh eating plants...no, it was more she was petrified she'd do something horrible and harm the plants.
After all - that girl with the shiny P badge had told that boy during the feast that if someone hurt her pet plant they'd get yelled at. She didn't like yelling. She didn't want to harm the plants.
Sitting up she walked over to the table picked up her supplies and sat down at the work station placing the geranium informant of her. "Hello buddy I'm here to clean your teeth" she smiled at it making sure to show she wasn't scared.
Glancing over at the older students she was GLAD she was only eleven and had such as smaller plant to deal with. After all her smaller plant had a smaller tooth brush which meant smaller teeth.
Taking the tooth brush in her hand she slowly began to GENTLY to scrub the first of the geranium's many teeth. "You have nice teeth" she told the plant. Yeah she was talking to a plant right now. Someone call the doctor - because she really was living up to her appearance wasn't she? Blond. Delusional. And full of LIFE.

Nerida said Okay, thank you Professor! The Professor looked as if she had gotten tired of having to reassure each and every one of them... Flossing and Brushing a plant's teeth, you had to admit that just sounded amazing to do! She couldnt wait to do it. After the Professor finished explaining to what they would be doing she walked over to her station and made sure she had gotten her toothbrush and minty floss and made sure her plant was there. Opps, it seemed she had forgotten her floss, she walked back over to the supplies station and picked up the floss and walked back to her smaller plant compared to the older kids plant, if she was one year up she would have had that plant!
Finally taking a look at her plant, she was a bit amazed on how it looked, you would never had thought something with the name, Flesh Eating Plant would look kinda gorgeous! She waved her hand in front of it, to see if she needed to call the Professor Bentley over, but for now this little plant was fully sedated.

Penny slipped off her gloves long enough to put her hair in a ponytail and sigh. This was one of the reasons that Herbology just wasn't her subject. They were supposed to be brushing the teeth of a carnivorous plant for Merlin's sake! Well there wasn't much for it but to grit her teeth and set to business, but then that meant she needed a partner.
Her grey eyes looked around the room. "Anyone need a partner?" she drawled.
