The beginning of term, new faces, old faces, new adventures... yeah Bentley was excited. As she stood in the entrance to Greenhouse Four, she rocked back and forth on the ball of her feet, her hands clasped in front of her.
"Good morning everyone! The lesson will begin shortly, in the meantime please take a seat." She motioned her hands to a few rows of benches that have been placed near the entrance to the greenhouse for the purpose of that lesson.
OOC: The lesson has officially started, DO NOT announce your character arriving from this point onward, as they will be late, and late = trouble. If you haven't done so already then please read through the Herbology Rules and Expectations and the SS Site Rules. All SS Board Rules apply. IC rule breaking will result in IC punishment, OOC rule breaking will result in OOC punishment. Please behave appropriately and most importantly... have fun. Anya listened an nodded. Bathing. Yeah. That was important. Food. Obviously. Water. Yup yup.
But where were the fun answers? Studying was mentioned MORE times than playing outside!
Anya's hand went up. "Minus the physical things..." which everyone had already mentioned, "I think being social is an important part of taking care of yourself. I'd go crazy if I didn't talk to people everyday."
Just like plants would if they didn't get attention, right?
Because that would be Anya's guess as to what was happening next in the lesson.

Hmm. On a daily basis she ate sweets a lot. But other than that all she did was drink water and run a lot. What could she tell the professor. Oh and she also at broccoli and eggs and those type of things.
"I eat a healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner. I drink lots of water to keep me hydrated and brush my teeth, hair and I bathe." And eat lollies. was that good? Hopefully it was.

His eyes trailed between the Professor and the plants inside the greenhouse. There was a lot of things that he does to take care of himself but as always he was looking at it from a logical perspective-- which is how this answer would connect to Herbology.
"I make sure I get enough water and/ or fluids to replace the ones used or lost by my body, make sure I get enough nutrients from food and also to get enough sunlight exposure."

Kennedy was GLAD to be back. Finally! Something normal and something he thoroughly enjoyed. He listened to what his classmates had to say about the question asked. He thought about it himself. There were lots of thinks he did to take care of himself, but why was it that he couldn't recall them all? Hmm. It was probably something he didn't pay attention to that his own body did unconsciously.
He raised his hand after having some time to think. "Something I do on a daily basis is read," he said. "I consider that taking care of myself because it's a form of relieving my stress and stress can be bad to a person as well as mentally and physically." And Merlin knew how much he was reading these day.

Hm. That was quite a good question. tilting her head to the side as she often did, Thea raised her hand slowly. 'Um.. well I brush my teeth?' Just to prove it, Thea smiled. 'That's important so you can have a nice smile and so you can eat..' Thea found herself wrinkling her nose. Did that just sound stupid? 'Oh, and so they don't go all disgusting and funny coloured..'
John finally managed to be in on time, mostly because of Kennedy's nagging about him being a slacker last year. He wasn't all that excited but eh. As Johnathan heard the question, he volunteered and raised his hand.
“In order to take care of myself on a daily basis, I check my blood levels and inject some insulin in my system if needed. Being a type 1 diabetic means that taking care of myself is mandatory.”

She ate sweets. A lot. She probably ate them more than vegetables. . .aaaaaaaaand she should probably keep that to herself. That wasn't something that she should speak out about. Doing that on a daily basis sounded very unhealthy. Well, it WAS very unhealthy.
Ronnie's hand shot up. "Well, I eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner; bathe, brush my teeth, comb my hair, and wash my face." she said, being very careful not to accidentally add anything related to eating sweets.

Listening to the Professor Lady speak, she considered the question while glancing to her side.

Isidora leeeeeeeeeaned away from West, and for extra measure scooted off to the side some, a safe distance where she was still sitting beside him, but she wouldn't get hit or anything by his wild boyness. He was dangerous sometimes. Then she raised her hand TOO, after he was done with all of that awesomeness, and looked at the Professor.
"I practice vigilance. Everyday. Being constantly aware of stuff, and always always learning all sorts of new things so I can be a better witch!" There were SO MANY answers already given, most about things that she also did as well, that Dora didn't feel the need to add anything else to her response. She put her hand down and kicked her legs out idly.

Brooke thought about this question hard, what did she do on a daily basis to take care of herself ? She made sure Mr. Bearie was safe thats for sure, she talked to people, when she was at home she watched tv so she didn't get bored, mmm. But she wasnt sure those were the answers she was looking for, so raising her hand timidly the blonde called out. "Everyday, i brush my teeth, have a wash and comb my hair. So im clean. thats taking care of myself, right ?" she hoped so or she'd have just made a fool of herself.

Seren smiled brightly as the students began to enter the greenhouse, she continued to greet them as they came through. "Morning dears."
"Good morning!" she replied with enthusiasm.
"Morning Jade, I trust you enjoyed your summer?"

"Morning Kurumi," Seren replied, returning the small bow. She hoped today's lesson would serve as a sufficient distraction for her Prefect. It must have been hard coming back so soon, though in many ways it was probably for the best. Keeping busy was always best.
"Ahhh bonjour Stella!" she replied with a warm smile. "It was marvelous thank you for asking. How was yours?"
Seren offered Ira a welcoming nod. "It was very enjoyable, I trust you enjoyed your summer?"
"Oh I did indeed," she replied with an enthusiastic nod. "And how was yours?"
"Hello dear," she greeted again as the students continued to file in. "I most certainly did. And how was yours?"
"Welcome back Amelia," Seren greeted as the Sytherin joined their ranks. "I had a lovely break, how was yours?"
As the next few students entered, Seren bowed her head in greeting. "Hello, hello."
Oh... no greeting. No matter, manners were taught by example. "Good morning... welcome."
My my my.. now there was one active and interesting Slytherin. Certainly a personality to keep a watchful eye on. "Hello and welcome!"
"Ahh good morning Jonathan," she greeted. Refreshed? "It's amazing what a couple of months in heaven can do." Because that was exactly where she was, in heaven. "I trust you enjoyed your holidays also?"
"Hello hello!" she greeted the next couple of students to enter.
Consulting her watch, Seren wondered how many more students were going to joint hem before she should begin. Hopefully the first years wouldn't get lost. A fair few of them had already managed to find their way.
As the next two students entered Seren couldn't help but smile to herself. Two lovely Snakes. "Good morning Daichi, Zhenya," she greeted with a nod. "I had a really nice summer and plenty of sun, thank you for asking."
Seren smiled as another few girls entered the greenhouse. "Good morning ladies," she greeted warmly... even if one o them had forgotten their manners.
"Hello dear," she replied with a smile.
Watching Elise's facial expressions change from fear to enthusiasm, Seren couldn't help but laugh a little under her breath. "I had a great summer, and how about yourself?!" she asked brightly.
"Err yes, hello dear," she replied, wondering why the girl was so loud and slightly out of breath. But nevertheless, Seren appreciated her attitude and lovely demeanor.
Watching as Minerva entered, closely followed by Taylor, Seren offered them a smile. "It was a fantastic summer, thank you for asking."
"Hello dear, welcome back!" She smiled at the young Badger. "My summer was amazing, loved every second of it... and how was yours?"
"It's nice to see you too Beatrice, had a good summer?"
"Hello hello," she greeted a young Ravenclaw and Jezzabelle as they entered the greenhouse.
"Morning! it most certainly was, and I hope you enjoyed the break as well."
"Welcome back dear," she greeted with a small nod, "it's good to see you too."
"Morning Harvey," she greeted the young Ravenclaw. "It was a lovely summer, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did."
"Good morning Selena, congratulations on Head Girl," she greeted with a wink.

"It was a remarkable summer... thank you for asking, and how was yours?" she couldn't help but sense the girl had some sort of motive in that question, but no matter...
"It was amazing, but it's great to be back," she replied, offering her Captain a small wink. "And how was your summer?"
"Goo--...." wait.. hadn't she already?... what?...
Turning her attention to the class, she saw the girl she had greeted earlier? Twins, that was it... these were the twins. Mika smiled over to Professor Bentley as she responded to her. SHE RESPONDED! Awesome. She felt like squealing with joy but the class had started obviously. Professor Bentley had asked what they would do daily to take care of themselves. Mika had to think on that one for a minute - and while she was thinking someone sat down next to her.

"I drink water, need sunlight because without it I get all sad and depressive and not like me - I'm not 'Happy Mika' I'm depressed and un-fun-boring Mika without sunlight" why had she gone to school in scotland then? Because Hogwarts was the BEST. And they had spells for that.
"I also eat...sleep...I need to move - to clean myself - but plants can't do that...I change my bedding" then it hit her. Flower beds were beds - they needed their sheets changed too! Oooh she WAS in the right house.

Ella raised her hand and sat up a little straighter. "Professor, I try to sleep as much as I can. I think that's really important." That was just one of the things Ella did on a daily basis but it was probably her favorite. Sleep was the best...especially in a comfy cozy bed!

Her summer? Well, Ed hadn't really decided if he actually wanted to send their father to St. Mungo's yet, but didn't think it safe for Elise to continue living there. "That's good," she beamed. "Mine was ... uneventful."
As for the question, Elise smiled a little as she looked around the classroom. Most of the things were already mentioned, but "I bathe, eat and things like that and I make my bed?" she responded, almost like a question. Oh, plants couldn't do that. So they'd need to help! Yay!

Kurumi sort of just sat in silence for a moment, thinking about the question. What did she do to take care of herself? She supposed that depended on what you meant by taking care of yourself. If we were talking just physically, like the things you have to do to live, then there was countless things that she did. Pretty much all of them had already been mentioned, so Kurumi decided not to answer in that regard.
However, if Professor Bentley was looking for something more abstract. Something more...emotionally...well, Kurumi really didn't know how to answer that since she was doing a horrible job at taking care of herself emotionally. In fact, she really wasn't taking care of herself at all. Which was bad seeing just how closely connected mental health and physical health were.
So, not wanting to repeat answers and not wanting to answer with things that she herself was not doing right now, the sixth year remained silent, writing down notes on her parchment.

Mika finally thought her input was IMPORTANT enough to be said - well the thought she had that is. Raising her hand the little first year nearly blurted out what she had been thinking.
"Professor - I change my sheets on my bed...and plants are in flower beds...so in a way would the soil be the flower bed's sheets?" What was it called turning the soil? Yeah she thought it was at least.

Oichi was starting to feel comfortable in the grenhouse as the professor began the lesson. She was a little worried of what sort of plants were in the greenhouse but no incident with a plant had occured thus far. Every thing is fine. The professor asked his first question and it was simple so OIchi responded, "I eat healthy, shower regularly, and time for physical activity with freinds as well as homework".

Why was it when Professor Seren calls her by her name that she feels like.....floating? Nah, she stood there gawking at one of her favorite Professors. Nod. Nod. "Yes, I did Professor." Oh, she haven't told her all about that supposed to be moving out of Hogwarts thing right? "My..my Aunt got married and.." Chitchat? Now? Really Beezus?
"Uhh, I'll just go visit you in your office on if these days. I've got to tell you more Professor." Hmm. That was the right thing to do eh? Because they were in a class and if she'd continue her storytelling, she'd be ranting until their the period for Herbology runs out.
So, she just bowed and gave Professor Bentley a wide smile as she walked over to where her classmates where.
They were going to take care of a diverse group of plants? WHAT plants exactly? Oh, she hoped the not too vicious ones. Because then, that would be very dangerous and she didn't want anyone dead at the first lesson of the term. Sure, she was exaggerating, but she was just hoping. Professor Bentley can be just....scary sometimes.
Daily basis? To take care of self? Uhhh...did she mean physically? Mentally, spiritually? With a hesitant face, she raised her hand, "Professor..physically I..eat, sleep, take a bath, exercise." And a small shrug. "I also read books on a daily basis to keep myself aware of facts and in that way I can say that I'm taking care of myself."

Watching Elise's facial expressions change from fear to enthusiasm, Seren couldn't help but laugh a little under her breath. "I had a great summer, and how about yourself?!" she asked brightly.
"Err yes, hello dear," she replied, wondering why the girl was so loud and slightly out of breath. But nevertheless, Seren appreciated her attitude and lovely demeanor.
Watching as Minerva entered, closely followed by Taylor, Seren offered them a smile. "It was a fantastic summer, thank you for asking."
"Hello dear, welcome back!" She smiled at the young Badger. "My summer was amazing, loved every second of it... and how was yours?"
"It's nice to see you too Beatrice, had a good summer?"
"Hello hello," she greeted a young Ravenclaw and Jezzabelle as they entered the greenhouse.
"Morning! it most certainly was, and I hope you enjoyed the break as well."
"Welcome back dear," she greeted with a small nod, "it's good to see you too."
"Morning Harvey," she greeted the young Ravenclaw. "It was a lovely summer, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did."
"Good morning Selena, congratulations on Head Girl," she greeted with a wink.
Why on earth was Issac dodging her? and blushing? ...
"Good morning Issac!" she greeted with a slightly raised voice so that he couldn't miss it. Yeah that's right, she wasn't avoiding him...
"Morning Silvia dear."
"Morning Zack," she greeted her Lion with a nod.
And then there was another Lion.. perhaps she should get them all alarm clocks? "Morning Max."
AND another one! Lion boys spending too much time eating breakfast maybe? Seren smiled, partly to herself and partly to Gideon. "Glad you could make it dear," she greeted.
Now... time to start, yes? Or no...
"Welcome back Louisa, and congratulations on your Prefectship." She was about to ask the Ravenclaw how her holidays were when she received the same question. Exciting? .. "It was a remarkable summer... thank you for asking, and how was yours?" she couldn't help but sense the girl had some sort of motive in that question, but no matter...
"It was amazing, but it's great to be back," she replied, offering her Captain a small wink. "And how was your summer?"
"Goo--...." wait.. hadn't she already?... what?...
Turning her attention to the class, she saw the girl she had greeted earlier? Twins, that was it... these were the twins. "Good morning," she finished her greeting before sneaking a looking at her class list. Dreadfully useful they were sometimes, other times not so much... Evengeline and Evangelina? ... Their parents didn't think to give them different names?
Anyways...
After consulting her pendant watch one last time, Seren snapped the lid shut on if and tucked it under her robes, the chain still visible around her neck. "Welcome everyone to the first herbology lesson of the term, for those of you that don't know me, I am Professor Bentley, and I assure you, you are in safe hands." ... just in case some of the firsties were worried she was going to make them play tag with the Whomping Willow, or let-me-go with a Devils Snare. No no no, she wasn't insane.
"Now today we're going to be looking at how to care for a very unique and wonderfully diverse group of plants, but before we do so, I want you all to consider something." Having closed the greenhouse door and moved to stand in front of the group of students, she paused before continuing. "What are some of the things you do on a daily basis, to take care of yourself?"
OOC: The lesson has officially started, DO NOT announce your character arriving from this point onward, as they will be late, and late = trouble. The lesson will continue in approximately 12 hours. All responses will be appreciated, have fun!
Violet's favourite class had always been herbology and she was really excited about what they were going to do this year. After listening to the Professor Bentley's first question, she raised up her hand, "Well, like everyone has said, of course we have daily hygiene such as showering, brushing your teeth and others. We also eat and drink different beverages for our basic necessities."
Addie raised her hand. This should be easy enough. "Professor on a daily basis I be sure to take a shower and eat healthy food, I also try to do physical excercise. I try to go for a run on a daily basis to take care of the health I my physical body," Addie said listing of all the things she did to keep hersel healthy.

A sea of hands shot up in the air, and she was already looking forward to seeing how aware the students were of taking care of themselves.
Although, she hadn't expected a latecomer. She eyed the girl as she slipped into the greenhouse and took a seat without an apology or a reason for her lateness.

Now... on with the lesson. And it was good to see that the late Ravenclaw mustered up the courage to participate.
Listening intently as the students listed their daily rituals for taking care of themselves, Seren nodded and smiled in response to some of their answers. Generally speaking they had the right idea. Eating food, whether it was healthy or whether it was chocolate, though she didn't think she could eat five apples a day, that was madness. Hydrating, showering, washing hands before meals, exercising, sleeping, socialising, brushing hair and teeth.... being awesome? sure thing young Snake, being awesome is always a great way to look after yourself. Protective clothing, constant vigilance? de-stressing, medication and learning.. all very valid answers.
"Well it's good to see you all know how to take care of yourselves, we wouldn't want you wasting away now would we?"
The thing she was most pleased about in regard to the answers to her question, was that they touched on today's topic. Yay, now the fun could start.
"Now today's topic is dental hygiene." She paused to let this sink in. No doubt there would be some students that weren't yet familiar with flesh eating plants. "Considering that dental care is important to humans, why might this also be important for plants, particularly flesh eating plants?" and just to elaborate on the question she asked, "What do they need their teeth for?"

Minerva put up her hand. "Professor, the flesh eating plants need their teeth to cut through the flesh, so they need their teeth to be healthy. If they don't have healthy teeth then they can't survive, if they don't survive we can't use them."
Nigel thought about the question the professor ask and answered with the obvious "Um Flesh eating plants eat flesh so they would need strong teeth to bite through the skin and hold on to eat the flesh off."
Tay raised her hand, "Professor, it is a have-to for flesh-eating platns because if they have no teeth, how cna they get their food which leads to how will they survive if they dont have food....... they need to keep their teeth clean so they will be there for catching food like us..... though we dont catch our food with our teeth or mouth....." Taylor trailed off and sighed, feeling embarassed and distracted.

She did not just say dental hygiene right? Because then..that would mean.. that would mean. She just couldn't think of anything else. EHHHH! There, Professor Bentley said it. Flesh Eating Plants.
Beezus couldn't hide her shock. Yes, she was still shocked because she was hoping her hunch would've been wrong. But no, it was correct. And...yes, there's a VERY LARGE possibility that they take care of these kinds of plants and maybe even brush their teeth? The thought scared her. SO MUCH. Why, they've been having more and more dangerous plants to look after as terms pass by.
"Professor..their teeth is needed for chewing what they eat." she answered after a reluctant raise of hand.
