Introduction to Alchemy It was actually quite nice being able to return to Hogwarts to teach a special class; Althea Schirmer, new Department Head of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes did miss her former students at least a little bit. Most of them. Some of them. She did hope her particular favourites would be interested in attending, even if she wouldn't acknowledge who they were out loud. Not charms of course, rather she was presenting an introduction to Alchemy, one of the subjects rather close to her heart as a metal charmer. ----------------------- OOC: This is your first seminar for the term! Totally optional to attend, all students may join in Additional updates regarding when the next posts can be expected will be found in my most recent post. My posts will be indexed in this first post, and anyone can PM or VM me if they aren't sure how to jump in. Don't forget, you're encouraged to RP your charrie not knowing things if you don't think that they would. As long as they're listening and taking notes and being engaged in the lesson, you won't be penalised and will still earn points. Its up to you what you think your character would already know. Then as a class, you'll each look through your symbol sheets and see if you can identify related symbols. You may have noticed the symbol lists aren't in English, but you are all familiar enough with Latin by now that you should be able to deduce which is correct. So one person from each group please stand up and we'll get started." Initial instructions here The Activity questions and table items. SPOILER!!: homework |
Michelle was excited about attending her first Seminar at Hogwarts. Alchemy was something that she had read about only in storybooks when she was a little girl. She had always been fascinated by it. Getting to attend a seminar seemed like a dream come true. She silently walked inside the classroom and looked at the board. So she used to be a Charms Professor here? "Good morning, Professor Schirmer," she said, politely, and sat down. |
^_^ You know Stella wouldn't miss this. She had definitely never expected to get a lesson on alchemy ever while she was in school. Stella wasn't unfamiliar with the concept, just from reading in her free time, but it wasn't exactly on the normal list of classes. Not here at Hogwarts, nor that she remembered from her earlier schooling at Beauxbatons. In any case, it didn't really matter what subject the lesson she was heading to was about, she was just happy that she'd get to see Professor Schirmer again. It was almost like things were normal again, besides the fact she hadn't been outright insulted in History of Magic. She had every right to look forward to this lesson. "Good day, Professor Schirmer," she said to the former Charms professor with a smile, making her way carefully to a seat at one of the tables set up in the Astronomy tower. At least it looked interesting, although she followed rules and didn't touch any of the apparatus. She wasn't about to risk trouble. Even if there hadn't been the announcement that points would be lost if she had. There really wasn't any question in that matter, and she wasn't about to start making a bad impression on the professors now. As far as she was concerned, Professor Schirmer still was one of her professors, whethe ror n ot she'd moved on to a position at the Ministry. |
Alchemy by Professor Schirmer! ..? Wasn't that pretty different from Charms..? Heh. Well. It appeared that Althea Schirmer was a woman of many talents. Paulie filed into the classroom early on and gave a nod toward the blonde woman on his way. "Welcome back, Professor," he greeted before claiming a seat at Miss Stella Gardiner's table. With a smile, Paulie gave a curt wave toward the Ravenclaw. "Hey, Stella! Long time, no see." He opened his mouth to speak again, but Professor Schrimer began to give a brief introduction, so the Gryffindor kept quiet. Well, well, wellllllll. Hopefully this would be fun stuff! |
Zhenya wasn't so sure about this seminar but she knew she would find it interesting. She walked in and saw who it was!! "Hello, err, professor," she said. Was she still professor? Well she could t very well change her title. She took a seat on a table and waited for people to arrive. |
WAAAAAAAAH! There was a notice on the Notice Board saying a Seminar Class was going to take place in the Observatory! IN THE OBSERVATORY! That meant...it was going to be open! When she processed the information, she even went flailing, jumping, screaming with delight at their Common Room! So here she was, skidding up to the top just to attend the Their class...at the Observatory...with a great Professor..... "PROFESSOR SCHIRMER!" Yeah, she did say that in a not-so-low voice. Gaah, can she hug her? She missed Professor Schirmer! She'd be the one teaching them the basics of Alchemy, yes? She was getting excited over this. Allowing herself to be guided inside, she listened for a bit as Professor Schirmer said a bit of an introduction while she stood at the side of the door, looking for a vacant table. Hmm...at least two but less than five on each table. She certainly hoped Indy would come. When the lady was done, Beezus walked to the table NEAREST to the Professor and with a smile plastered on her lips, she waited. |
Emmanuelle's curiosity had been piqued after reading the note on the noticeboard. Alchemy was not a subject that had been offered at her old school nor lectured about. In fact, it had never even been mentioned at all. So, she was pretty clueless about what alchemy even was. With this in mind, Emmanuelle walked into the room that had been set aside specially for the lecture and was instantly mesmerized by the scrolling text. Or was trying to read it, more like. She shook herself out of this when the "Hello, professor!" |
Kurumi wasn't very familiar with alchemy, at least not how it pertained to the wizarding world. She had read comics and adventure stories growing up that used alchemy, but Kurumi had quickly come to learn during her first year that the things she had learned about magic and the supernatural growing up were...well...nothing like reality. If reality was even the right word. Entering the room cautiously, Kurumi couldn't help but wonder if the laws of Equivalent Exchange was based on actual fact or just something fabricated by the authors she had come to admire. It wasn't the slightly unusual set up of tables and what was on it that first caught Kurumi's attention, but the woman standing in the front. "Professor Schirmer," Kurumi chirped as she adjusted the strap of her bag and took several more steps into the classroom. "It is fantastic to see you again, professor." Kurumi set her bag on the ground and took a seat in the front of the room just as the former Charms professor provided a brief introduction. It was almost as if she had never left |
Alchemy, Charlit had no other extra cirricular activities going on at the moment, nor did she have a circle of friends yet. So she decided that this would be a good thing to do in her spare time. And in the process, she'd make some friends! Charlit was vaguely framilliar with alchemy. "Well hello professer Schirmer" Charlit said. |
After a particularly effort-filled journey to the Astronomy Tower, Theo needed a few seconds to regain his breath. He had never been up here before, but woooah, it was kinda pretty! He didn't know what Alchemy was, though. Sounded a bit clever for his liking. As he entered and sat down at an empty table, his eyes travelled to the notice on the board. Do not touch the stuff, again. fjsopdfopsdfsdkf. That just made him want to touch it more, did the professors not understand this? "Hello, professor." He said, eyes wandering elsewhere. |
"It was aaaalchemyyy to siing to meee your freedom soooong" *sings* Quote:
This was going to be interesting. It always reminded Lewis a little of potions which was why he'd been hoping that he'd get a chance to take the subject at some point. Also if it was only for one seminar course. At least that would give them all the chance to see if it was interesting enough to delve further into the subject. Which was one of the reasons the Hufflepuff Prefect was quite happy as he walked into the observatory/classroom. The other reason was already sitting at a table in the front of classroom. Smiling at Kurumi he took a couple of steps towards her which was right when the professor addressed the class. That voice sounded so familiar. Lewis turned his head a little to see who was standing there at the front and felt his eyes widen slightly in surprise. "P-professor Schirmer. Hello." What was she doing here? "G-good to see you." And sorry I didn't actually SEE you up until now. Not too keen on standing while everybody else was taking a seat, Lewis hurried towards the table Kurumi was at, a small blushing forming on his lips, and quickly sat down next to her. "Hi." He smiled, brushing his fingers over her hand for a moment before moving to unpack his bag. Actually what did they need for this class? And what were all those items on their table for? |
Louisa yet again felt smug as she simply left her common room and a few stairs up she was in the Astronomy tower, for the first seminar of the term. If her boyfriend wasn't punched hard in the face, she would've hummed to herself and been in a good mood. Being the case, she merely walked into the class and took her bag off her shoulder. "Hi professor Schirmer, good to see you again." And really this tone was the best Louisa could muster at the day. Moving on toward the seats she... saw a certain Huffie & Gryffie... side by side. Happy. Louisa's face stayed blank as she saw them but she did feel slightly uncomfortable? Since she, y'know, scolded the girl and made the boy even more awkward. The Ravenclaw shifted her eyes off of them and threw her body on one of the random seats. |
Alchemy seminar. He saw the notice this from the other day and he was bit curious to how alchemy really is. Jonathan haven't read much about them nor have been told stories about them. This is why Jonathan went to this lecture for today. Learn about new things. He knew about alchemy and alchemist but not as much, so this is really such a big opportunity for him. He's not really doing anything for today anyway. Walking to the classroom on the tower... yes from the dungeons to the seventh floor, Jonathan was still panting at the long way up. Before going inside the classroom, he still tried to fix himself, make himself more presentable for class. And as he he walked inside he saw a very familiar professor--- well, ex-professor of Hogwarts. PROFESSOR SCHIRMER!!!!! She was back... Not entirely for the whole year but at least she was back. Jonathan walked inside the room and he was still at awe that he is seeing Professor Schirmer again. What? He missed her in Charms class. So she'll be teaching them about Alchemy, Jonathan can no longer wait. Oh and before he forgets, Jonathan smiled at her "Good to see you back, Professor Schirmer" yes, he was just all smiles seeing her. Jonathan found a seat on one corner of the room and slid his bag, placed them on the table and waited for the rest of the student body to come in so she can start the lecture. |
Indiana didn't know if she was going to get the subject. She hadn't actually heard of the subject before. But Professor Schirmer was teaching it. And that meant Indy had to go. Even though she wasn't teaching at Hogwarts any more she was still Indy's favorite teacher. Charms hadn't been the same without her here. So Indy was pretty excited that she was here. Hopefully she would kind of get the subject though, but that would just be a bonus really. The girl smiled as she wandered up to the observatory. It was nice to be up here again, she had missed it since it had been closed. Mmm. Alchemy. It could be interesting. Ahh. There she was. Indy had to stop herself launching at the Professor. She was a big girl they didn't do that anymore. But she did want to hug the professor. She had missed her. Without really thinking about it, because really hugging Professor Schirmer probably wasn't the best of ideas, Indy was over there, and hugging the professor. Oh dear. This could really go bad. Like the professor could like kill her. Or tell her to go away. Opps. "Hi Professor..." Indy mused with a little smile, as she looked up. "I missed you..." If she was cute the professor wouldn't kill her right. "I don't like the new charms professor, she's not as good as you. Can't you come back? Please come back." Hmmm. Then she kind of stepped away. Should she sit down now? |
Oooh Alchemy? Nora figured it was an optional class, but she still wanted to attend, mostly because she was super curious about it and also curious about who would actually teach it. The shock came when she stepped inside the classroom and saw professor Schirmer there! "Professor! You're back!" Big grin. For some unknown reason, Nora missed her, since the new Charms professor wasn't quite her favourite and, even though she sometimes found professor Schirmer rather... scary, she enjoyed her lessons. With that sheepish, big grin still on her face, the girl took a seat in the front row and stared. She didn't dare to touch anything, but staring was allowed. ... wasn't it? |
Ella liked the idea of charming metal. It seemed like quite a cool subject though probably very complex. She was actually a little surprised to find out she'd be allowed to attend the seminar, given her year and everything, though she was eager to take the opportunity to learn something new. After a very long trek up to the towers from the Hufflepuff common room, Ella finally arrived and smiled, surprised to see Professor Schirmer back at Hogwarts. "Hey Professor, welcome back." The second year said cheerfully before her attention was caught by the board. Noting not to touch anything, Ella set off for one of the empty tables. |
*Gasp!* The old charms teacher is now teaching alchemy? And she's also the head of the magical catastrophy stuff at the ministry? So many stuff is going through Nate's head. He walks over to the table where he sees one of his friends, Ella. Before he sits down he says "Hello Professor Schirmer. It's good to see you again." Then he takes a seat next to Ella. He says "Hey Ella. I'm glad to see Professor Schirmer again." |
Lewis too. ^^ Quote:
It was fairly obvious she was joining them. Them, because her own House Prefect was there too. Louis, was he? She couldn't recall. "Good morning," she said, with a smile, as her eyes landed on the one imparting this lesson before making her way towards Kurumi and company. "Hi Kurumi," another smile went towards the Gryffindor, "And Louis," because that was his name, no? At least it sounded like it was. Once seated, she was extremely impressed with this woman. Like, she was incredibly awesome, wasn't she? Look at everything she's studied. No wonder everyone was missing her. |
Intro to Alchemy :) Jordan decided to switch things up for a change, and attend the introduction to Alchemy class, usually offered for sixth and seventh years. He walked in, to find tables, pretty much everywhere. He took a seat and laid his bag down, full of heavy books, and important stuff for the semester. He laid eyes upon the professor, to see that it was his Charms Professor. He really liked Professor Schirmer, probably one of his favorites. Professor Schirmer had told them that she now works for one of the departments in the ministry of magic. Some department, that took two years to pronounce. He gave a head nod to Professor Schirmer, making eye contact with him. "Hello Professor Schirmer, good to see you again." |
Hannah decided that it would be a good thing to learn about everything that she could. You never know when something might come in handy. She walked in and took a look around. It was weird seeing the old Charms professor not teaching charms. "Good to see you again professor." she said. Hannah didn't see any familiar faces so she just grabbed a seat at the first table she came to. |
Harvey entered the seminar and a smile crept onto his face.. he had always loved charms since he had joined the school.. mainly cause of the subject but also because of the professor that had been teaching them. He liked Professor Schirmer and he was sure that if she hadnt left then she would have been his 3rd favourite professor.. that would have been 3 professors at the number 1 spot on his list.. but who knows maybe after this seminar she would make that spot afterall. "Hello Professor Schirmer its good to see you again. How are you?" he asked the professor.. he always wanted to know how everyone was.. it was his thing to ask everyone how they are and that included the professor. |
3 at this table so far :3 Kurumi/Lewis/Kate SPOILER!!: Lewis :3 Glancing over her shoulder when she heard his voice, Kurumi found herself smiling sheepishly as he made his way towards the table she was sitting and only widened a bit more when he sat down next to her. "Hi," she whispered back, feeling a jolt of electricity shoot through her body when his fingers brushed over her hand. It was the little things, the small touches, those were the ones that meant the most to Kurumi...and caused her cheeks to turn an even deeper shade of pink. Kurumi surveyed the room while Lewis unpacked, spotting Louisa giving her...a look? Kurumi slouched her shoulders a little, trying to make herself a little smaller - especially when she saw who else entered the room afterwards. Kurumi's gaze stayed there for a moment before turning forwards again before eye contact could be made. Attention back on Lewis, Kurumi couldn't help but notice the somewhat obvious air of confidence, or was it curiosity, that surrounded him. "Do you...already know a little something about the subject?" If Alchemy turned out to be anything like Potions...Kurumi was going to need a bit of tutoring after this seminar to make sure she understood all the concepts. SPOILER!!: Kate XD Kurumi's attention was pulled away from Lewis when a familiar Hufflepuff appeared at their table. "H-Hello again, Kate," she said, offering a polite bow of the head in the girl's direction. Kurumi still found the older girl a little intimidating with her silvery or blonde or whatever color locks the girl had. Still, Kurumi kept her face pleasant and tried not to look as intimidated as she felt on the inside. She hardly knew the girl after all. |
Nigel entered the seminar thinking why not alchemy seemed pretty cool . He did not even know it existed until the noticeboard went up for the class. He walked up to the professor to say hello. "Hello Professor Schirmer, it is true you can really do alchemy?" He hoped because he had never seen anybody do it so it would be a surprise and a shock if somebody did. It trapped in his thoughts he found an empty seat and went to sit down |
Alyssa had heard that there was an optional class starting regarding Alchemy and decided to attend it. Not because of the subject, but because of who was teaching it. PROFESSOR SCHIRMIR!! Alyssa had missed her former Charms Professor and so any opportunity to be taught by her again, was amazing. She quickly entered the room, spotted the Professor and quickly walked up to her. "Hello Professor Schirmer. Welcome back to Hogwarts. It is so good to see you again. I'm really looking forward to being in your class again." Alyssa smiled at the Professor before turning around and finding an empty desk and sitting down. |
Jezzabelle had decide to go and see what it was all about. Who knows, maybe alchemy wouldn't be too hard to grasp a concept of. She walking into the classroom and smiled, "Hello Professor." She looked around at the groups that had formed and wasn't exactly sure where she should go. Noticing the small group around Kurumi she smiled and made her way to them, "Mind if I join the group Kurumi?" |
