As you walk into the History of Magic classroom the first thing you notice is how warm the usual drafty room seems to be despite the lack of a fireplace, in fact some people would call it down right welcoming.
Professor Scabior is uncharacteristically not by his desk, instead he looms right by the door offering the faintest of smiles at you as you enter. "Morning."
The desks have once again been re-arranged so that four desks are alligned per row, just to give the classroom a slightly different look. Sadly, no colourful inks or fancy quills were on the desks this time, but that didn't mean nothing was placed on them. Upon the middle of each desk rested a world map, detailed and filled with its own kind of information.
Kindly take your seat and lower your voices, after all, there is no reason why points should be lost today.
OOC: Class has started now, please no posts announcing late arrivals, as that will result in lost of points. If you want to join in, I encourage you to! Just act as though your character was there all along.

Okay, things were REALLY getting weird now. First, all the prefects in Potions, now this little girl in History of Magic? Not to mention the bloke who fell off his broom on the Quidditch pitch. Emmanuelle had asked herself this question already and she was going to ask again. "What is going on in this school?!?! With everyone freezing up out of nowhere?!?!" Yeah, that was a little louder than she had intended. But it was a good question

The history of magic class seemed to be going fine unlike other previous classes of other subjects ESPECIALLY potions. After supplying his own answer to Professor Scabior's question about loosing a city, Gideon had quietly listened to the other answers given, adding a few to the list within his notes. However when the familiar voice of Anya stopped right in the middle of an expressive answer, the prefect's quill stopped, the sixth year looking up in concern as one of the students nearer to her mentioned the second year freezing.
Oh no...no...no. Not Anya too!
Gideon swallowed not knowing what to do or say, simply waiting to see what Professor Scabior opted to do. Hopefully despite his prechance against Gryffindors he wouldn't be quick to think it a prank as Lafay first thought. No one could deny it was getting serious.

While he tried to focus on the lesson, suddenly Gary noticed there was something wrong happened in the class. Don't say that..
Oh my merlin.
Another girl had frozen! Seriously, what's wrong with this school? So many students had ever frozen. Williamson, The gryffindor and hufflepuff prefect, then Sierra, and a Ravenclaw. Then? At first, the blonde guy didn't care about that. But..
Okay, he was a bit concern.
"Well, I agree with him." said him agreed the Ravenclaw boy (Vickers.) "Or perhaps we could call Ms. Tillstorm to be here." if no one could bring her to the hospital wing. What's wrong with Hogwarts?

Louisa was staring at the map in front of her when that loud Gryffindor kid was answering... but then she shut up suddenly. Did Scabior tell her to? The Ravenclaw lifted her gaze toward the professor before quickly whipping her head to where the Gryffindor kid was....
FROZEN!
Again. The Ravenclaw Prefect's brow furrowed and she shook her head slowly in denial. "This can't be happening again..." She looked at Gideon, transferring invisible worrying denial vibes via telekinesis. Was this another Potions class?!
Hopefully Scabior won't yell this time... he didn't have a stepchild so they were safe from accusations.
This was such a good question. Serious, thought-provoking question. Aspen embraced it, of course. She even put her map down.
Most people went with the obvious - natural disasters, human impact. But.. that... didn't satisfy Aspen. Of course. Vickers was on to something though.
"It's the word lose that gets me," Aspen began, as if starting in the middle of a conversation, just between her and Scabior (and Vickers, a little). "If I lose something, that sort of indicates that the something was once mine. You know, ownership. And can you OWN a city?" Mayors and things ran cities, but did anyone actually own it? People lived in, kept it up, and would call it their own...
Maybe that counted?
"I don't think a city can be lost, in the physical sense of the word, to everyone. Someone would know where it was. Maybe... some sort of massive obliviation could be responsible for a lost city...? Or mass imperius curse on a city's inhabitants..."
This needed more thought. Aspen didn't want Professor Scabior to answer.
Oh someone else froze? Good. She'd have more time to think this answer over.

Alyssa blinked and then frowned. The same thing that had been happening in the other classes was happening here too...only it was her younger friend, Anya who was now frozen. Alyssa was getting worried. This 'epidemic' of sorts was spreading really fast.
Alyssa looked around to see how Alec was reacting to what was happening to Anya. She was his bestest friend.
Only when he was up at the front and comfortably leaning against his desk did Scabior speak again. "Now," He paused, hoping that everyone was paying attention. "Which city and country are each of you from?" Born in, or just lived in. It didn't really matter, just where they felt like they were from.
"My family's moved around a bit, but we're currently living in Canterbury England," Silvia answered.
SPOILER!!: prof.

The History of Magic Professor flicked his wand, drawing a large identical world map to the one on the students desks up onto the board. Each time a new city and country was said, Scabior tapped his wand, putting a red dot on the map where said city was located.
Switzerland. Denmark. Japan. United States. Guyana. Canada. Brazil. France. Great Britain. All countries where students in the class came from. Once everyone was finished he took a small step back to look at the map. "A lot more foreigners than I thought." Way more in fact. As an afterthought, Scabior tapped his wand, causing another dot to appear in the large town where he was born. "I myself am from Paisley, Scotland." Good place. Good place. Mostly just because he was born there, no other reason really.
He gave a nod to his fellow Scots.
"So-" He turned back to the class. "-Cities are cities. Sturdy and all that." Obviously, since they were on land. "And you all have some sort of connection to a certain city or town." Well hopefully. "You lot, answer me this" He paused "How do you lose a city?
How to lose a city? Kind of an interesting question. Just where was this lesson going? Silvia raised her hand. "You can lose a city if everyone abandons it for some reason, like famine, and then nobody ever comes back and everything falls into decay." She hoped that was the kind of thing he was looking for.
SPOILER!!: oh no!

Huh? What was going on? Don't tell me there's another one! Silvia thought. At this rate, would there be anyone left unfrozen by the end of term? She stared at the girl with her arms still hanging in the air, motionless. Then she turned to glance around the room. Who would be next? Was everyone in danger of freezing up like that, or was there something different about those who had frozen, some connection that they shared that was the cause of it all? What did they all have in common? Or was it all just random?

Keefer stared as another student seemed to fall prey to the freezing epidemic. He mentally berated himself for being pleased to see the Gryffindor Seeker out of commission. He sighed, both outwardly and inwardly. Someone should take her up to Tillstorm, I suppose.
"Er, Professor..." he said, with his hand unnecessarily in the air. "Want me to take her up to the infirmary? Or rather float her up, perhaps.." he finished, trailing off. The Captain was fairly confident that even if something went wrong with the spell he could carry her.
Justin watched as another student fell prey to the frozen unexplained.... What the blazes was going on at Hogwarts? He had already sent an owl to his mother about it when it first happened and she had written back telling him about what had happened a few years before the Battle at Hogwarts occurred... He hoped history wouldn't be repeating itself....
" Professor Scabior, I could help bring her up to the hospital wing with Keefer if you like." he offered. A true Puff he was... Always wanting to help and be of some sort of service to anyone that needed it...

Should he kissed her? Since she said a kiss would make it better after Kurumi was frozen during the Potion class.

Milton rubbed his eyes with the back of his hands. He started ignoring people after he made his comment. Some students were just... dumb. In his opinion. Most of their answers were outlandish and ridiculous.
When Anya spoke up, Milton turned his head to look at her. He couldn't really ignore her because she was sitting RIGHT next to him. And she was squeaking again.
And then she... almost exploded. His eye twitched when she stopped mid-boom and just... froze. Again. Milton stared at the girl and poked her in the side after a moment.
.... POKEPOKE. "Stop doing that, Squeakers." It was weird!
POKE.
And then other people were insisting on taking her to the hospital wing? If anyone should do it, it was Milton, because he was clearly the hottest strongest person in class.
AND because he was sitting RIGHT next to her. Duh.
"She'll snap out of it," he said. She did last time. Shrug.
Laura looked around the place. "Do we have the Mask in here?" Laura had seen that film and when every he was told to do something he did it, when he was told to freeze he did. "Or maybe we have a villain around here someone with a freeze machine." Laura thought that would be cool you could do loads with it. "Anyway how do we unfreeze them?" Laura sighed.

Penelope was still trying to come up with her own answer to the "how to lose a city" question, but wasn't really sure what to say. Because really, how did you lose a city? Shouldn't the professor know that sort of thing already? So she sat there, thinking and half-listening to the other students' answers, until she was distracted by Anya's voice right next to her, as her friend excitedly spoke her answer and started getting really loud-
-and then abruptly stopped.
Eh? What? Was she freezing like Kurumi and Lewis and those other people in Potions had? That wasn't good. What were they supposed to do now? The first year wasn't sure whether they'd actually figured out a way to unfreeze them yet. Or at least, they knew that spell Lafay had shouted didn't work. But there WAS that other suggestion that they hadn't been allowed to try, something Anya herself had suggested.
"Someone should kiss her," she said. Lafay had said no one was kissing the prefect when Kurumi froze, but Anya wasn't a prefect, and it had been her suggestion last time, so it ought to be okay. Right? Right.

The prefect didn't quite catch the look Louisa gave him, but his mind too was on the memory from the last class this had begun happening in. His attention was brought back to the present though as students started speaking out about what they may consider doing to the frozen girl. Okay so there were offers to get the nurse and offers to bring Anya to the nurse...Gideon noticing it was the Hufflepuff captain who gave the latter.
And then there was the boy sitting next to her poking her. Poking her much like he had been poking or kicking him after the Ravenclaw-Gryffindor quidditch match. "Please stop poking her like she's an injured animal you're examining," he said quietly to the younger boy. Friend or no friend of Anya's, the boy was being mean and the prefect was protecting the younger girl who he treated like another sister. Especially when she couldn't protect herself at the moment.

Lose a city...interesting concept.
He thought on the subject and raised his hand as an idea came to mind. "Well the city could be the victim of a volcanic eruption," he answered before lowering his hand back down to his desk. There was at least one city in the mediterranean coast that the description belonged to. "Or another natural disaster."
He nodded but shrugged. "But the city would still be there. It wouldn't be lost." Still physically there.

City...status? Scabior snorted. "I think politicians have better things to do than to denounce cities."

Well, that was interesting. And a weird way to word things out. Louisa pondered this for a second before raising her hand, "If you mean lost city as in vanished, wiped off or ended there would be too many ways. War being most significant. Whereas if you mean losing cities as in losing their title, then it could be desertification..." She trailed off, unable to determine what exactly the professor meant by 'lose a city'. Although desertification was probably connected to villages more than cities... oh well.
Ah, war. "That's true. War sometimes results in the renaming of cities." Good point.

Then another question was asked. How do you lose a city? Well, in order to do that, you had to be really forgetful … or the place was hidden from outsiders really well.
“A city can be considered lost due to its location not being known, though it is still part of a legend or myth that many believe to be true,” Marshall said, raising his hand before he spoke. He then quickly added, “Like El Dorado, the Lost City of Gold.” Hopefully that was in the ballpark of what he was looking for.
Scabior nodded. "Yes, that was true." He would touch on that later as well.

There were many ways someone could answer that question. Literally, although it seemed rather hard to misplace a city, considering they weren't really tangible objects... There were other ways, too. A city could sink into the sea in a hurricane or a tsunami or something. Or... "All throughout history, cities have been taken over by other stronger, larger cities. If the government and/or armies were weak, it was easy for the other city to destroy them and take over." Thus, the smaller government lost their city to someone else. That made sense, right?
Ah. Same answer as someone else. He nodded, it was true.

"Natural disasters like volcanoes!" she said excitedly. "Like the city of Pompeii. One day it was there then..." She clasped her hands together and then started to make an exaggeration explosion motion. BOO--"
Her input was cut short though. For little Anya Phillips froze in place. Her eyes still wide with excitement. Her hands halfway to making an explosion movement. And her mouth still hanging open.
Young students often had some sort of entertaining edge to them. Random hand movements, loud voices. Scabior just watched as the second year explained her thoughts and then she froze.
One minute Anya Phillips was talking and the next minute, BOOM- or not really. Just silence. Despite the theories of some students, Scabior did not live under a rock. Word of the students and Ravenclaw head of house freezing had reached him, and quickly at that.
He had only started to look into books to see if anything was related, but there were thousands upon thousands of books that could be looked into, and only one Scabior.
It was one thing to hear about it, and another to have a student freeze right in front of you.
He made his way over to her desk, cautiously waving his hand in front of her face but getting no response.

His hand stretched higher into the air as if that would solve anything. "Professor Scabior...Anya froze." If the man was up to date, which Kennedy didn't doubt, then he'd know what he meant.
"Thank you for some strange reason I didn't quite notice." His voice was almost snappy. Yup. Scabior was not happy.

But his head shifted immediately towards the Slytherin Prefect when he heard those words-- FROZEN.
Anya. Frozen. Anya-- was that the Gryffindor girl?
Out of reflex he dropped the map onto his desk as he shrank back into his seat. The contamination in Potions at the dungeons, is it making its way up the castle? He crossed his arms across his chest as he casually raised one hand to cover his nose and mouth, making it appear in such a way as if he was pondering the situation. "Should we... send for a Healer?" seems like Healer= Hazmat team in Hogwarts.
His good mood had completely vanished, somewhere along the lines of speaking about the lost city and the sudden reactions to Anya just freezing. "I don't think so Mister Vanderbilt? I think it would make perfect sense to just leave her here." His voice was oozing with sarcasm.

"She's frozen." He answered quite obviously, AS was visible. He wasn't in the mood for these questions.

Yeah, that was a little louder than she had intended. But it was a good question
Scabior stared at Emmanuelle for not even a second before ignoring her. "Kindly lower your voice Miss Moreau."

"Really? Well its good to know that you agree with some who is speaking common sense Mister Rush." Scabior stared, good mood completely gone.

"Er, Professor..." he said, with his hand unnecessarily in the air. "Want me to take her up to the infirmary? Or rather float her up, perhaps.." he finished, trailing off. The Captain was fairly confident that even if something went wrong with the spell he could carry her.
"No." It wasn't a no thank you, or no its okay, just a straight no.
He drew his wand, pausing as though he perhaps had frozen too with a thoughtful expression on his face as he figured out the exact message he wanted to send. Once he was certain, he flicked his wand, opening the door, then pointed the wand again straight at it. A slivery eagle exploding from the tip. The bird made a round around the classroom before quickly disappearing out the door.
Right, back to teaching. Scabior cleared his throat. "Back to the lesson then, the Healer will be here momentarily." Hopefully. Yes ignore the frozen girl. His good mood had vanished and quickly.
"Many of you had very good answers. Some of you we might actually touch upon." Later, hoping that no one else froze in his class. "Please remember though, a city being destroyed is completely different from one being lost." A note to all of you who said something along the lines of Hurricanes or Tsunamis.
"Today's lesson will be on something that some of you mentioned, the city of Atlantis." Good job to those who mentioned it, but it wasn't the hard to guess."There are many stories and myths behind the city, some true, and some not so true. But right now I just want to know what you know about the apparent lost city?"

Laura looked at the Professor and smiled, duh that was an easy question. "Well Professor what I know about the lost city is that it was lost." Laura smiled. "No one knows where it is, or if it's under ground, under the sea or somewhere above land but just hidden from our view, so it's lost, L...O...S...T." Laura looked at the Professor maybe the next question would be harder.

...
Another one has frozen. It was happening again.
...
And... was professor Scabior INSANE?! How could he be so calm about it?! Did HE know something the others didn't? Nora was too afraid to even think about it. How could he even go on with the lesson?
Since there wasn't anything she could do about... the frozen girl, Nora raised her hand to answer his question. "It sank in one day and one night after a series of earthquakes and floods." Which was... sad. Awful. No one really knows much about it, eh?

Oh, and someone else had frozen. This was getting boring now. Call for the healer, did someone just ask? UMM.... what is the point? Everyone knew the girl would snap out of it in a second or two. Everyone else had done.

Annoying. Just annoying. And the fact that it was a Gryffindor made it more annoying.
Back to the class... Theo had never heard of Atlantis. But it sounded like it was from a disney film or something. Shrugging, he raised his hand, "Is it a make-believe place from a fairytale book?" It was a long shot.

One minute Asher was listening to Anya's answer and the next Anya was frozen. Blinking a few times. Was that all he was going to do? Send for help, to the healer no doubt and who knows how long that would take, she seemed to be crazy business from what he heard.
He sighed. So class was still going to happen even with Anya froze in the middle of it. Asher raised his hand, still keeping an eye on Anya. "Seafood, Sir. They had plenty of seafood.... since its a lost colony under the sea and all."

What in Merlin's pants is Scabior doing...? Just going on with the class as the frozen kid stayed mouth hanging open beside them?!!!! How inconsiderate! Even for Louisa!
"So that's it now professor? People are freezing around us and we just continue with whatever we're doing? It's getting too casual we start living with it?" THAT was their way of handling the problem? At least Lafay had the decency to dismiss them. She was annoyed at the whole thing... and Scabior would probably take 948657349865 points from her WHICH HE HAD NO RIGHT OF DOING but she wasn't about to accept this cold reaction to this weird unexplained incident to a kid.
Louisa glanced at the Gryffindor statue and threw her back against the chair. Not gonna answer till the Healer was here and took care of the girl.

Atlantas...
Well, when Lily paused for a second to think of an answer, not much came to mind, except that it had supposedly just sunk into the ocean and vanished. But hadn't there been something about it dealing with Cleopatra?? Maybe that was something else. So the second year put her hand in the air to answer with the obvious answer. "It sunk into the ocean. And nobody has been able to find it." Yeah, that was good enough... Cue note taking position, for when all those other answers came flooding in. No freezing here...
Well would you look at that, the teacher is completely ignoring Anya and is moving on with class. Nigel was a little shocked about that. But only for a minute, until the Professor mentioned Atlantis.
Yes, he was happy he was right. But right now he was more worried about Anya and whether or not more people will freeze in the class. He did not what to see a repeat of what happened in potions. But the other students did snap out of it in a couple minutes. So Nigel thought. He would answer the Professor's question and wait for the Nurse to come.
Nigel actually knew a lot about Atlantis because it was so cool and mysterious about what happened to it. He raised his hand and said" Professor, it is an island that was first mentioned by Plato. And after it failed to to invade Athens, Atlantis sank into the ocean. It sank in only a single day and night." That is really fast for a whole island to disappear.

So apparently covered in molten lava and hidden for centuries or more under the cool hardened stone wasn't to be considered lost. Oh well...to each their own opinion of the matter. And it wasn't like he was much into that matter with Anya frozen and all. First Kurumi and now her, his friends, which were already few and far between, were slowly getting picked off by whatever was causing the freezing.
And Scabior simply wanted to continue after sending his patronus for the nurse. Yeah...Gideon now thought he was definantly less caring then Lafay, but then he wasn't legal related to the frozen student like the potions mistress to Sierra.
Okay Gert...you need to calm down and set a good example.
Which by what Louisa had just said...she wasn't following him in. And Ravenclaws were supposed to be the smart, responsible ones. "Atlantis is said to be an island. And some say it was lost during a shift in tides and possibly flooded," he answered after raising his hand and finally speaking up.
Shrug.

Eh?
Right? Right.

Oh look the boy who was sitting next to Anya was poking her maybe she'll snap out of the frozen thingy. But it seems the Gryffindor still not moving. How come the frozen thingy attack Anya? She's not a prefect.
Then he heard a Gryffindor probably younger than him suggest that someone should kiss Anya. Oh look someone who agreed with him. Hmm..Maybe he should give it a try since the poking obviously not working.
But before he could leave his table, the Professor said they need to get back to the lesson. WAIT. So leave Fancy be? Till the healer here? Eek! Was Messer heard the Professor right? But there's nothing he could do since Scabior already made up his mind. The Hufflepuff frowned before turning his gazed back to the Professor who's not in good mood anymore.
Oh so they're talking about Atlantis? Nice. What do they know about it? Beside that its lost? Hmm.. Messer raised his hand "It said that the city had a marvel of architecture and engineering, Sir." he said then Messer took another quick gaze to frozen Anya.

People were freezing all over the place and they were still going to continue on the lesson. That was pretty good. Indy liked learning, so Professor Scabior was pretty epic in her books right now. He clearly cared about their education so much. Okay. Lost city of Atlantis. Indy hadn't heard of that. But. Surely the answer was kind of in the question. lost city of Atlantis. "It's lost?" Well. It was true. It was the lost city after all.
