Divination Lesson Three (In the Forbidden Forest / Ogham Staves) In the Forbidden Forest If you had missed the last minute parchments placed in the notice boards of the four Common Rooms, then your climb to the Divination Tower classroom would have been for naught seeing as Professor Elwood had a sudden change in curriculum and had moved the day's lesson to the Forbidden Forest. |
Ella was glad she payed close attention to the notice board because if not, she would have never made it to the edge of the forest in time for class! ...And the thought of showing up late O__O EEP! She would have been quite embarrassed. Luckily for the second year, she had seen the change of location notice and was skipping towards the spot where the professor was now seated, bag slung over her shoulder. It was a beautiful day to be outside and the weather was having a lovely impact on the badgers mood, causing her to be even more cheerful than usual...which probably contributed to her lack of fear that they would be having class here. When she arrived to the spot where the Professor sat, the small blonde plopped down and placed her bag beside her. Woah. She was early too. "Hi Professor! Nice day, yeah?" |
Elijah had been dying for another Divination class. This was his absolute favourite class. It may have something to do with the fact that a lot of the time it was very easy to pass off complete nonsense as 'academia', but he loved the whole idea of seeing into the future. He wanted to SEE if he would still be this gorgeous in thirty years time and he wanted to SEE if he would be the most successful wizard model like he intended to be when he left Hogwarts. This particular lesson was being held out on the grounds, as were all the lessons nowadays it seemed. Elijah was starting to think that the castle must be ridden with mould or something making classrooms unteachable environments. Although he couldn't complain too much. The grounds were far closer to his common room than the usual attic, after all. When he arrived only one other Huffie was present. The Professor, who Elijah liked on an account of her attractiveness, was cross legged on the ground. Elijah wasn't sure if they were expected to copy her, at least the other Huffie was doing so, but Elijah didn't want to get his robes muddy. Being dirty was unattractive and Elijah didn't do unattractive. "Hellllllllooooooo ladieeess," he flashed them both his best smile. "Lovely day out here today," ramble ramble ramble. Girls liked talking about the weather, right? |
Gideon had thankfully caught the note though seeing as he was already coming from a tower there was still the added distance to just go down to the grounds. Not that it mattered and seeing as the whether was nice made the fact that divination class was going to be held outside better. Making his way down the pathways and over the grounds, the prefect finally reached the edge of the Forbidden Forest as directed, spotting the professor and two students already there. "Good day Professor Elwood," he greeted with a polite smile. Despite his so-so experience in the last class and his trouble with the homework assignment, Gideon was still ready to give the class another go. |
Penelope definitely wasn't going to complain about a class being held outside, especially now that the weather was nice again. She still wasn't sure whether she liked this class in particular or not, but she certainly didn't hate it, and having a lesson outside certainly helped keep her from doing so. "Hi," she greeted the professor - and the other students too, she supposed, since there weren't many here yet - and took a seat by the professor and the Hufflepuff girl since they seemed to be the only ones sitting down. |
hehe Another lesson in the forest. Stella was beginning to wonder what exactly was going on in the professors' heads that they were having lessons out here, but at least this time around she hadn't been instructed to bring Nuage. And at least the weather wasn't quite as freezing. Not that anything had happened in Charms, but she felt better not bringing her pets into the forest again. Even if she wasn't entirely sure if she wanted to be going in there again. At least they weren't going in yet, as she saw Professor Elwood and several students sitting on the grass or standing around just at the edge of the trees. Two Hufflepuffs, Gideon, and a younger Lion, which she honestly found intriguing. Hopefully more Ravenclaws arrived, or at least more people she actually knew. That made lessons more fun, although she had an idea that the professor was trying to make Divination lessons fun anyway. They were more amusing than the seriousness of the lessons the past couple terms had been, at least. "Good day, Professor Elwood," she said, giving the professor, seated on the ground, a smile before she turned it to the Gryffindor prefect. She didn't think she'd get in trouble for greeting people she knew, especially if she wasn't starting complicated conversations or anything. It once again wasn't Charms, either, so the rules weren't quite as strict that she could recall. And she wasn't going to just start a conversation to start one anyway. She could wait quietly for the lesson to start, or wait for more people to arrive. She chose not to sit down, either, even though the grass didn't look particularly muddy. She just didn't feel like sitting down, not this close to the forest. |
Another Divination class. And another class in the forbidden forest. It seem the Professors like to hold their class in the forest. He began to wonder what makes them like to use the forest that much this term. Was it because what happen last year? When Messer arrived at the edge of the forest, Professor Elwood already there waiting for them to arrive. "Good Day, Professor." he greeted the Divination Professor. Oh look |
Says hi to both Ella and....gulp...Elijah... SPOILER!!: Ella Alyssa was glad that she had noticed the flyer on their Common Room or she would have made an unnecessary trip to the Divination Tower only to have to go back down and make her way to the Forbidden Forest. She was just glad that she wasn't late for class. She noticed that some of the other students had arrived there. She made her way to the Professor who was sitting cross legged on the ground and went to greet her. "Hello Professor. It's a wonderful day to be out here." before making her way over to Ella. "Hi Ella. Mind if I join you?" Alyssa asked before sitting on the ground next to her friend. It was then that she glanced over and noticed the other Hufflepuff sitting nearby. It was Elijah. SPOILER!!: Elijah "Hi Elijah. What's this about the weather? Yes the weather is awesome, isn't it?" Alyssa whispered back before quickly looking away. |
This subject was the biggest waste of time ever. It hadn't done Kurumi any good and it had only given her false hopes and frustrations. Especially now. Especially with everything that was going on with her and... Kurumi adjusted the strap on her shoulder and didn't pay attention to where she was going exactly as she made her way down to the Forbidden Forest. She was tempted to just miss the lesson, seeing as dealing with this woman was looking even less appealing that usual, but she also just needed to get out and maybe the fresh air would do her some good. She made eye contact with few and stood off to the side with her bag still over her shoulder as she simply bowed her head to the woman sitting crossed legged on the ground. She ended up glancing at Elijah when he started talking about the weather, but didn't say or react in anyway. She just stood there waiting to get this lesson over with already. |
Nigel was so glad he remember that the class was not in the tower. Because knowing himself he would have waited in the tower for half a hour then left to go back to the common room, missing class completely. Then he spotted the Professor sitting cross legged on the grass. He hoped the spot she was sitting on was not wet. "Hello, Professor Elwood" He then found a empty spot to stand until Professor Elwood gave more instruction. But he still wondered what they were going to do today because the last two classes have been interesting to say the least. |

She Ran most of the way outside. Luckily the weather was nice and the sun wasn't too hard on her body. People were sitting in the grass waiting for class to start. Witsy made her way noticing Ella. "Hey you!" Happy to see a friendly face she takes a seat next to her. She gasped for breath, "so...ooo ti...red....how...are....you?" Witsy quit sitting up. She new gravity was going to win and she didn't care she just fell letting the earth support the rest of her. She begins to laugh. Her breath catches up to her, "that cloud there looks like an elephant laughing. She could help herself. It was the little things. |
plus Elijah! To say that it didnt worry him that another class was held at the Forbidden Forest would be inaccurate, but being out here twice now-- and this time during the day-- wasnt quite as worrisome as it was during Charms class. He followed the trail of students heading towards the edge of the foliage and kept going on, and stopped jusssst in front of the Professor "Hello Professor Elwood." the Ravenclaw greeted her with a wide smile, which unfortunately reveals just how stupidly geeky he looks. It was when he realized he couldnt recognize the patterns of her robes that he realized how close he must've been standing next to her (the downside of being far-sighted), so he backed up ever so shyly, and ended up bumping his shoulder with the Curly!Puff. That broke his reverie "Oh hi 'Lijah" Vickers mumbled suddenly as he turned at who he ran into. Cue secret peek at the Divinations Maven. Siiiigh. |
Having seen the notice on the Slytherin notice board, Dylan began making his way to Divination class. He'd almost forgotten, if the Slytherin were being honest...but with the reminder and whatnot...Well, it didn't matter. He was here now. Spying the teacher sitting on the ground, Dylan moved to join her. With the Forbidden Forest so close, one had to wonder what exactly they'd be doing today..."Hello, Professor..." |
SPOILER!!: Replies to welcomes and the like The wind began to pick up a tiny bit and blew Professor Elwood's hair into her face which she shoved back with a swipe of her hand. The students were beginning to pile in around her, sitting and standing, but they didn't seem to the last to arrive. "Hello everyone, we will be beginning shortly but we need to wait for the rest of your classmates to join us before heading into the forest." She nodded slowly and then thought of a brilliant idea to keep them busy. "While we wait, you should all try to find something in the clouds. Shapes in them are always fun to look at." Not to mention there was a form of Divination dedicated to that stuff. |
Tag arrived just in time for Professor Elwood telling the class to cloud watch. Cloud watch. He first greeted Professor Elwood, "Hope your day has been good so far Professor." before he took a seat. Looking up Tag tried to decipher a cloud shape. The more he looked at it, though the less he saw an interesting image within the cloud. "It just looks like a white blob to me." He said disheartened. As long as the class wasn't entire cloud watching he'd do ok. |
SPOILER!!: Professor Lady Er...Cloud shapes? Gazing up, Dylan noted they looked no different to him than any other clouds...Were they suppose to be shaped? Was he suppose to be seeing something there? Bringing a hand up, he massaged the back of his neck. Why was he feeling anxiety over this? They were just clouds... "Ma'am...I don't see anything..." |
Alyssa listened as Professor Elwood told them to look up at the sky while they waited for the other students to join them. So Alyssa leaned back and looked up in the sky. The weather was indeed perfect. Alyssa remembered how she loved to look up in the sky with Claudia and they would both try to pin point to each other what they saw. Now as she looked up at the sky, she looked until she found one that made her smile. She found one that looked like a butterfly and as she moved on to the next cloud formation, she identified what looked like a silhouette of a person's face. Doing this was fun, but Alyssa was interested to know what type of divination they would be studying today. |
Kurumi eventually sat down, finding this entire thing rather ironic. Cloud readings...for a subject where you literally had to have your head in the clouds to actually believe half of it. Setting her bag down next to her, Kurumi ended up flopping backwards onto the ground and looked straight up at the sky. Clouds...and their shapes...this was sort of like trying to look for shapes in tea leaves. Everything was wonky and undefined. Sighing, Kurumi continued to look up at the sky. It all just looked like a thin layer of powered sugar to her at the moment. |
Alyssa, Kurmui, Vee-Man & Prof SEERface SPOILER!!: Elijah's #1 Fan Elijah turned the second he heard someone say his name and it seemed to have been Alyssa who greeted him. "Oh hey Lys. Yep. The weather is totally awesome today," at least one girl had picked up on his topic of conversation. SPOILER!!: sad Kurumi is sad As he was speaking to Elijah he noticed Kurumi staring at him out of the corner of his eye. He turned to flash her one of his best smiles, but she had found herself distracted in something else. Her own thoughts it seemed. In fact, she deemed downright melancholic. Elijah wasn't sure if it would be a good idea to go over there comfort her or not since, ya know, at the end of the day emotional girls could be harrrdddd work. Or maybe she was still nervous to be around him after Runes? SPOILER!!: The one with clouds in her head The Professor hadn't seemed to pick up on his obviously impressive conversation about the weather and Elijah gave up on her. Perhaps she wasn't responding to him because she was so taken aback by his beauty that she wasn't quite sure WHAT to say lest she make a fool of herself in front of him? That was likely it. No matter how OLD girls get, they are always the same, really. SPOILER!!: A lil' Vee in love Elijah had been distracted staring at Kurmui, trying to work out what was going on with her when someone collided with him. He was two seconds away from snapping at them when he realised it had been Vickers. "Vee! My bro!" he exclaimed, pleased to see the 'Claw and taking him in a big BRO hug. "You do realise you have glasses, Vee, right? They are supposed to help you see. Ya know, so that you don't end up walking into people," he teased. "What has you all distracted anyway?" And then he grinned. "Is it a gggggirrrrrrllll? Is it that Gryffie over there who is seeing elephants? She's kinda cute... maybe if she'd brush her hair a little more. WHO IS IT?!" This was fun. Why couldn't he help a bro out? Sure Vee was nowhere NEAR as attractive as him, but Elijah had ALL these requests constantly from girls (sorta... never), so he should really help out his best bud, yes? SPOILER!!: Sighing Kurumi The enjoyment he was having at poking fun of Vee and his lady crush (if he even had one) was briefly stopped as his eyes glanced over Kurumi again in the sea of Vickers' potential bachelorettes. "Hey Vee," he whispered to his Claw friend, "Do you know what's up with Kurumi?" |
Well, luckily Cassia read the entire note.....hadn't she read it, she would now be heading to the Divination tower alone. The first year was heading excitedly to the forbidden forest. A wide smile on her face as she anticipated that this lesson is going to be interesting! As she got closer ,she spotted Professor Elwood and her classmates. She paced faster towards them as her eyes brimmed with excitement. Taking a couple of steps closer with her bag slung over her shoulder, "Good day Professor!" She said smiling. She nodded to the other students as she settled among them crossing her arms over her chest waiting. |
"Hi, Professor,'' Jory said arriving to join the group just in time to hear her telling the class to look up to the sky and find something in the clouds. He craned his neck so he could look up. There were oddly shaped clouds up there. When he was younger, he used to like figuring out what forms the white fluffs took. He spotted one right now which looked like a fish head. |
The Forbidden Forrest. Why exactly was the lesson going to take place there today? Ness couldn't help but wonder. It was rather a spooky place to have a lesson and all wasn't it? Hmm..maybe, but at least it was day time and they'd be with a Professor the whole time. So it wouldn't be so dangerous after all. The fourth year made her way down to the grounds and within a short while she spotted a bunch of people sititng at the edge of the forrest gazing at the sky. Was that what they were doing today? Were they going to tell the future through the sky? So maybe they weren't going into the Forrest after all, at this Nessie beamed no need to be scared and frightened anymore. "Morning everyone." said Renesmee as she grinned at everyone near by. "Lovely day, don't you say?" she giggled as she realized what she had just said rhymed. |
"Hi Professor." Laura smiled as she looked around the Forbidden Forest, she really didn't like coming here and this was the second class that was happened in the Forbidden Forest, seriously didn't the Professors know it was forbidden for a reason. |
Nigel did what the professor told the class and try to find shapes in the clouds. They all looked pretty normal to Nigel except for the one that looks like a leprechaun strangling a flaming burrito. But Nigel usually saw that cloud very time he looked into the sky. |
Cool, Witsy thought. Clouds were easy, or at least they are when there isn't a point to it. She looked up towards the clouds pixie, ship, giraffe, mom, fi..., Witsy sat up for a moment fixated on the previous cloud. She stood up and slowly started walking towards it as if that made any sense anyway because the clouds are several hundreds of feet above with no substance. She couldn't help herself. It's been 14 years since she's seen her and this cloud seemed special. She didn't want to lose it. |
""Hi Professor", Sarah said as she sat down and joined the group on the grass. Cloud shapes? She did it at home often... Clouds were the most awesome ideas for her stories... she saw duck clouds, eagle clouds and of course the typical sheep clouds. |
Jezzabelle was running and praying to Merlin that she wasn't late. She had doubled back to the common room to grab her text book having totally forgotten that she had divination and just as she was heading to the tower she remembered that it wasn't out on the ground. She joined the class gathered around the edge of the Forbidden Forest and said, "Hello....Professor....Elwood." She took a deep breath and stared around. It didn't look like she was late but she wasn't going to say anything just in case she was. She hoisted her bag higher up on her shoulder and stood straighter trying to give her diaphragm more room to expand. She needed to catch her breath and try to get the red out of her cheeks. |

The sight of the students laying in the grass and looking at the clouds brought a smile to Calista face. It was a happy site after all the frozen students business that had happened recently, and there were even a few in her lesson today that had been affected. But things were back to normal it seemed. Waving and nodding at the rest of the class as they arrived to their little meeting place, Professor Elwood finally stood, gesturing for those on the ground with her to do the same. "Welcome everyone to your third Divination Lesson of the term. As you've noticed I decided to change the venue of our lesson, partly because of the weather but mainly because I had a change of mind on the subject we would be learning about today. Now that everyone is here we can head on into the forest. Is everyone ready?" She chirped excitedly. This would be fun. Not really waiting to see if anyone wasn't ready, Callie stepped into the shady line of trees and disappeared, hopefully a line of students would be following her in. As the class moved further in, the sunlight that had been present out in the open slowly dwindled, leaving just enough light to see. There were branches snapping nearby and the scuttling of small creatures in the trees and in the bushes. Probably just squirrels... "Alright everyone there is no immediate danger... well I've personally never really been in here before but Mr. Murdoch and Professor Williamson say that we should be fine. Although it would be smart to keep our wands out and ready just incase. Older students please spread yourselves out, I've never been the greatest at defensive magic." she grinned and continued to trapse through the undergrowth. Really how different could these woods be than the ones at her childhood home in upstate New York? "Again, no worry though." After walking for about ten minutes, the Professor led them into a small clearing still shaded by trees but free of rocks and tree trunks. "Here we are. Everyone file in." She found a spot on the ground and took a seat. "Does anyone know what type of Divination we could be studying here in the forest?" |
Err. What type of divination they could be doing in the forest? Indy thought for a few moments, although she really had no idea. There was the centaurs though. Indy was having a little thought of that. She didn't really know. But she decided she'd ask that anyway. It did kind of make sense. With a smile, Indy raised her hand. "Maybe it's got something to do with how centaurs perform divination?" She inquired with a little smile. Maybe. Indy really had no idea at all |
Gideon had kept on his feet, having chosen not to be too relaxed when soo close to an area of the grounds not known for being absolutely perfectly safe. He did however do as the professor asked, watching the clouds to see what shapes could be seen or believed to be seen. Soon enough it appeared to be time for the class as Professor Elwood called for their attention once more, begining the lesson in ernest. "Aye," he said simply before following her into the forest hoping others would join them. So far so good, the path and the surrounding foliage didn't seem too bad, the light was decent enough to follow along with. The prefect briefly wondered as they walked and the woman talked if she was trying to convince herself or just the students that might be worried that everything was going to be alright. She did seem a little tense at least to Gideon. Obediantly spreading out and strengthing his attention on the surroundings, he continued walking within the group of students near the front. Finally they came to a clearing and Gideon pulled himself back closer to the group as they slowly entered. As to her question, the sixth year was clueless. Clouds might have been one type but with the cover of the forest, it was harder to see them clearly here. |
Sarah followed the teacher in... she had her wand ready. What divantion - she did not really know, but what that Indiana girl, who Sarah had played gobstones against said sounded pretty right. "Yeah, did a Centuar not teach Divination at Hogwarts at one time?" said Sarah chiming in. |
Text Cut: Professor Following the Professor deeper into the forest, Cassia was looking right and left as she knew she might not get a coming chance to be in the forest this year. Although, everything seemed to be alike; trees, bushes and twigs sticking and getting on their way. Yet that was still fascinating the first year. Did the Professor just said she wasn't good at defense! Cassia swallowed and closed her hand around her wand in her pocket. Well, she wasn't good at defense herself too, but the sensation of holding the wand had its effect. Walking and walking…The Slytherin had the feeling that Professor Elwood either forgot where to go or she was lost in thought and kept walking ahead. Fortunately, Cassia was wrong for their Professor stopped . Cassia settled down on the grass and put her bag aside as she hugged her knees to her chest . She turned into a small bundle of flesh that anyone could jump over her no problem. Cassia considered the question and raised her hand, "I guess Divination that depends on nature and its elements?" She suggested. Not knowing if such thing existed or Professor Elwood would burst laughing! |
SPOILER!!: Professor Elwood Selina sat up when she heard Professor Elwood's voice. She had been admiring the clouds up above her because it was such a beautiful day; however, at Elwood's entrance Selina could care less about the white, fluffy pictures in the sky. Divination was the one subject that Selina was always extremely attentive in. It was a subject that was important to her for personal reasons and Merlin forbid she missed something in the midst of a lesson that could be imperative to her own outside study of the subject. Especially, now that she and Elwood were on the same wave length about Selina's own interest. So when she asked the elder students to spread out, the fifth year drew her wand and headed over to the mass of students over in the corners of the group. Personally, she was not super fond of the idea of needing to use her wand- but she would do what she needed to if need be. Fiddling with her bracelet, she settled back into a seated position to listen to Elwood officially start the lesson. When she asked what they could be studying her eyes flickered back up to the clouds she was admiring and rose her hand, "Aeromancy? Could we be studying the divination of clouds? Or maybe we could be studying xylomancy, the divination of trees or fallen branches and stuff." |
catching up yush SPOILER!!: Elwood Find something in the clouds? Vicker's eyes rolled up to see what he can make out of the sky. He finds.... that there could be some rainshowers later tonight or early tomorrow morning? He presses his lips together. He doesnt think thats what what the Professor is looking for... SPOILER!!: Elijah xD Vickers tilted on his leg a bit as Elijah pulled him into a Bro!Hug, awkwardly grinning and a good-natured clasp on the Hufflepuff's shoulder in return. Oh wait glasses? "They're reading glasses man..." he murmured "...Dont really need glasses just to walk around." although maybe Elijah had a point. But then his eyes grew large when Elijah blurted out something about girls in front of all these people. He SHUSHED him in panic and tugged at the other boy's robes sleeves, trying to.... pull him away?... hide behind him?.... get him to shut up?-- yeah one of those-- and whispered back urgently "Nobody nobody..." although those bright blue eyes steals another glance at the Professor's direction. Merlin he hoped she didnt hear that. But at the mention of a Gryffindor Vicker's gaze shifted immediately to the brunette Prefect. She didnt look like she was talking about elephants to him. Heck it didnt look like she was in the mood for this class period. Just then Elijah whispers asking about Kurumi. He stared at her SPOILER!!: Elwood So now they were moving into the forest, and in a carefree way he observed. This wasnt sitting too well with him, an instinctively drew out his wand. Initially he wanted to draw close to the Professor Then they reached a clearing. Was this the same clearing they were in when they were at Professor Bellaire's class? He was still trying to figure it out when the Professor asked about what they could be studying today. What was so important that they need to be in the Forbidden Forest and not in the classroom? A tentative hand goes up "Are we here today to take a first hand look at Tree Spirits Professor and the kind of trees they watch over?" |
Laura looked at the Professor. "We could be using the sky to figure out divinations." Laura said truthfully, hopefully they would do that because she thought it would be fun. |
Ella had been smiling as friends and new faces alike arrived at the edge of the forest. She snorted at that Elijah dude when he commented on the weather, not wanting to get involved in a conversation with him. He was the guy who had said Sophie was talking about his bum or something, yeah? EEK! She would be staying far away from him! And Alyssa was his friend, too? Interesting... Right. So Professor Elwood seemed cheerful today. The second year smiled as she instructed everyone to follow her, sticking close by Alyssa as they walked through the forest. The change in light didn't go unnoticed by the second year and she found herself holding her wand out in front of her, just in case. And O___O ProfessorElwoodSayWhat? She wasn't good at defensive spells?! WHY would she even tell them such a thing as they headed deeper into the forbidden forest? Ugh. They were SO going to get eaten. Maybe if she just creeped closer to this Elijah character the creatures that lived her would go for him first...he was always directing attention towards himself so that might actually be a good plan. Slowly...and hopefully not obviously...the second year inched closer to the older boy. Yup. He would totally be eaten before her. Nod. When they came to the clearing, Ella turned and focused her attention on the question that Professor Elwood had asked. Hmm...What kind of divination would involve things in the forest? Raising her hand, Ella looked at the Professor thoughtfully. "Professor, I read that one can read the lines in the earth sometimes...it's called...umm...I think it's Geomancy. Is that what we'll be doing?" |
Alyssa stopped looking at the clouds and sat up as Professor Elwood started the class. She stood up and followed the Professor as she led them into the forest. Alyssa looked around. This would be the second time she was in the Forbidden Forest with a class. She made sure that her wand was by her side as she listened to what the Professor was asking them. When she asked the class what type of divination they would be possibly using in the Forest, Alyssa thought about what she had read before raising her hands. "If there's a chance meeting with a bird or animal, we could be doing Apantomancy" |
I've never been the greatest at defensive magic. Yep, you just earned yourself a STARE professor. They were about to go into the Forbidden Forest with someone who wasn't confident in their defensive magic and was therefore asking students to sort of cover for her. You know, if she really was a Seer and all that, wouldn't she be able to see if there was going to be something wrong? Hmmm? Only Kurumi knew deep down that things didn't work like that, at least from what she knew about Selina and her abilities. Sitting up, Kurumi glanced around and this time caught both Vickers and Elijah staring at her - only Vickers seemed to be looking at her a lot longer than the other. Blushing slightly, Kurumi smiled back at him and then turned her attention back towards Professor Elwood. Divination in the forest? Her thoughts went to Thereos for a moment and wondered if perhaps they would get an audience with him, but she sort of dismissed this idea. Divination with clouds came to mind, but that would be rather difficult seeing as the tree coverage inside the Forbidden Forest would prevent them from seeing anything. Well, seeing anything while looking up...sort of. "Perhaps Divination by looking at the sort of patterns the tree branches make against the sky?" Kurumi asked after raising her hand. "Or the shadows cast on the ground?" |
Oh, Vickers *SNORT*. Trying to make it all work timeline-wise. SPOILER!!: Prince Charming Elijah could have laughed out loud at Vickers' reaction to him trying to suss out his fancy girl, but he restrained himself to save his friend some dignity. "I think i'd like to keep this sleeve intact, thank you very much," he teased following the boys gaze to the... No. No way. Surely not. "PROFESSOR ELWOOD?" he said maybe a bit too loudly. Now he couldn't help but laugh. Oh boy. The Professor had an attractiveness about her, sure, but Elijah never took Vickers to be the kind of guy to go for the older lady. Speaking of the Professor, she had just instructed them to follow her. He started off into the forest, keeping close to Vickers since he didn't much like the thought of this place. It was much too scary and the creepiness of it all distracted him from ensuring he was putting forth an attractive front at ALL times. "So, why Professor Elwood?" he questioned a lot quieter and more subtle than he had been previously. Just at that moment the Professor warned that she wasn't the best at defensive spells and asked for the aid of older students. Bloody great! Qualified teacher, indeed! he thought, removing his wand for good measure. "Time of the month...?" Elijah questioned as the conversation moved back to Kurumi, confused at first. He even began making theories that Kurumi must be a werewolf when it clicked, "Oooooooohhhh! Dude. I think there is some girl code somewhere that states guys can't talk about that kind of thing. I'm pretty sure there is a law of some kind with penalties and everything," he warned his friend. "Either way, I hope she is okay. Have I told you that she's starting to get the hots for me? Most girls do, but I think she has it serioussssly bad," Elijah grinned. "Perhaps we could double date with you and the Professssorrr." Teasing him was way too much fun. SPOILER!!: Prof. SEERface They made it to the clearing and Elijah was thankful for the more free-feeling environment. The Professor took a seat on the ground once again, but Elijah was determined not to sit on the bare ground and get his good robes muddy. Afterall, they had already experienced an assault from Vickers so far today. Searching his pockets he pulled out two personalised handkerchiefs. They weren't exactly ideal, but they'd help. He handed one to Vickers to use as he spread out his own before trying to fit his backside in the small square of cleanliness it presented him with. As the lesson began, Elijah decided to have a crack at answering the question the Professor presented to them and raised his hand, "Perhaps since it is a forest and stuff that we might be reading tree leaves today instead of the preferred tea leaves?" Worth a shot. Elijah wasn't even aware of how ridiculous he sounded giving an answer like that. In fact, he was pretty CHUFFED with his efforts. |
Witsy realized th girl didn't even notice and began searching for the cloud that resembled her mother. Unfortunately it was gone and she heard the professor saying something about pulling out your wand and so Witsy did. Finally something interesting, Although were we preparing to take on something? Surely not, there were little ones here too and that would cause a lot of problems with the head master then again, we should be entering the Forbidden Forest anyway so who knew. She followed after the professor to make sure she was paying attention. Some of the students appeared to be worried, then again it isn't too comforting when your professor isn't any good at defense and has never been in the Forrest, but who was she to judge. On the other hand she felt quite good. She continued to listen to the professor's question, Witsy thought a moment... "Hmm maybe the earth has a way of speaking to someone who's good at divination. Plant or dirt observations, but that was more herbology-like things" she had no idea. Being in the woods, though, had less light, you could see the stars clearly through here, but a lot of the trees do tend to get in the way. She waited to see what the possible answer could be. |
Oichi was shocked when the professor told the older students to spread out to better protect everyone cause he was not good at defensive spells. They were in the freaking Forbidden Forrest and lack of professor leadership was quite off putting. She quickly got as close to the middle of the group as humanly possible as she kept walking looking at all the ginormous forrest around her and doing her best to stay calm. Soon they stopped at a clearing and the first question was asked. 'What sort of divination could be done in the forbidden Forrest's. [I] Well, I am surrounded by plants and plant studies are botony. I wonder, she raised her hand, "Professor are we perhaps gonna do botonomancy, studying plants in one form or another for divination. |
this happens just a bit before the question (cant resist sorry :P) Oh yeah Elijah just blurted her name out :head: Vickers stood deadpan and looked at anything and everything else BUT the Divinations Professor or the Curly!Puff, hoping that people who happens to look their way would just think its Elijah calling out to the Professor. But then he started to LAUGH. LAUGH! About Professor Elwood! An incredulous look crosses the Ravenclaw's features as he turned to Elijah again and shoulders him to shut up. Dude no mocking of the crushes no fair. So they moved into the forest and at this point Vickers was inching his way closer to where the Professor led the way. Then he hears Elijah whisper the question. He stops dead in his tracks, not really thinking if Elijah would slam into him then gives him with another incredulous look. Why? he mouths in silence, then slides his gaze a few times between the Professor walking further away and back at the Curly!Puff "What you need glasses?" he murmurs, giving the Hufflepuff that LOOK--She's HOT. What do you mean why? Just as they were moving on in relatively peaceful, although slightly nerve-wracking silence, Elijah started whispering again. Vickers resisted to roll his eyes-- at this rate they will have the entire Acromantula colony on their tail. But then he said something about girl codes and big bad guy penalties. He gives a stiff nod and mouths Ok. Yeah he didnt know about them girl codes Then he stops again, this time allowing Elijah to walk past as he kept talking. Deadpan stare comes from Vickers and for a quarter of a split second wanted the curse the Hufflepuff on the spot. Kurumi having the hots for Curly!Puff? Is that why she didnt like him-- he was wearing blue robes instead of yellow? His face turned sour as he trudged on and overtook Elijah, muttering under his breath as he passed him "Dream on man." Yeah he can dream on about Kurumi falling for him the same way he dreams on for a date with the Elwood. Meaning= it will NEVER happen. Right, theres a clearing up ahead. He didnt think he'd be so relieved to see a destination. |
Another trip into the forest? Spike was grinning, despite the fact it was divination and him being almost certain he didn't have an 'all seeing inner-eye'. Or something like that, anyway. He followed the Professor with a light skip in his step, eyes wide in excitement. The sound of branches snapping and movement only added to his thrill, and he completely missed the bit about 'defensive magic'. Probably a good job too, as Spike could probably do more harm than good with his wand when put on the spot. As they reached the clearing, Spike pondered the question. "Does it involve acromantulas?" Spike answered hopefully. "Or thestrals?" Because, that'd be EPIC. |
Nigel is now convinced that the teachers like coming out here to the forbidden forest for classes now. This is like the third or fourth class he has had here close to the forest. But back to the professor's question, Nigel did not really now what kinda of divination they could do here in the forest. But since she did ask us to look at the clouds maybe it is cloud reading. Maybe it was a real thing, Nigel had no idea. "Professor, does it involve the clouds?" It couldn't hurt to guess |
SPOILER!!: Responses and stuff As she had been commenting each students' response to her previous question, Calista noticed that they all seemed to be calming down a bit since their walk to the clearing. The sounds of the forest had seemed to die down now from their place in the clearing and she was pretty much calmed herself until someone had to go and ruin that... Quote:
O________O "A-acromatulas?" Callie stammed slightly as the Ravenclaw mentioned the name of by far the most HIDEOUSLY-HORRIBLE beasts in the entire Wizarding World. She could care less about Thestrals, but there were bloody giant spiders in this forest? Why hadn't Willy or Waylon mentioned that tiny tidbit?! She would be having a word with them about that. Back to curious child and probably the other students who's attention was probably prickled by the mention of creatures like that. Yeah. "No, we will hopefully not encounter any of those in today's lesson but please if you think you see one of those..." she paused and shut her eyes for a moment to avoid shivering. "inform me immediately and we will get out of here. Got it." She gave him and then the rest a nod that sent her blonde hair tubling back over her shoulders and then she winked at him to try and cover up her fear. Yeah she was good now. SPOILER!!: VanderWilde (This is in response to everything so minor time editting) "Yes Mister Wilde?" Callie had said as they were walking towards the clearing. Had he seen something?! Oh he was back to talking with Vickers. Things seemed fine. Callie watched the boys out of the corner of her eye as she proceded with the lesson and then noticed they went back to talking after they each answered. At least they had done that. "Boys, please keep your attention on me." She said looking at the Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, her eyebrows raised. ----------------- No one had guessed correctly but some were close--that counted for something right. Obviously this wasn't a failure on her part but merely showed that their previous Professors in the subject hadn't explored many out-of-the-box sectors of the subject. Oh well. "Since we won't be able to look at and enjoy the cloud shapes like some of you did before we entered the forest I think we could do what I had planned for today which, like some of you have sort of touched on, involves something we can take from the forest." She lifted a hand and made a sweeping motion around at the trees making the perimeter of their lovely little clearing. Professor Elwood pulled from behind her a stick no longer than a wand and about the same girth, the one she had purposefully sat near in order to answer this question the way she wanted. "Today we are going to study Divination by Ogham Staves. Would anyone like to venture a guess as to what those could be?" She twirled the stick in her fingers, waiting for an answer. Anyone? |
Alyssa listened as the Professor told them that they would be doing some kind of divination using something they could take out of the forest. Then she recalled the Professor comment about Kurumi's answer and how she was close to guessing what they would be studying. Kurumi had mentioned something tree branches. Alyssa decided to hazard a guess. She raised her hand and answered "Professor could the form of Divination you are talking about using that Ogden Staffy thingy have anything to do with taking twigs or sticks and using them to use a reading?" Then she remembered about the Ancient Runes carvings that she had made last term. "Could each stick be used to represent a symbol or something that is then used for divination reading?" |
bhahaha VanderWilde SPOILER!!: Elwood Vickers straightened up unconsciously when the Professor called out to the Curly!Puff. His eyes darted quickly to Elijah and gave him another LOOK-- yes please dont upset Right there was another question... Ogham Staves... that does sound familiar but why?... Oh! Up goes the hand "Its Divination using certain types of sticks-- I mean wood Professor... something like a combination of Runes casting and wandlore where the type of wood represents something." He wasnt saure if he got that right, but it stuck out for him when he was doing some reading for Runes classes. |
Jory listened to everything that was said by the Professor with interest. He raised a hand to answer the question. "It's where sticks are used for reading,'' he said and remembered the Stones they'd used in the last class. "The sticks I think, have a letter assigned to them.'' He wasn't sure if it were letters or something else. |
"Is it not a Celtic thing, where bark of trees is used for Divination" put in Sarah. |
Kurumi's eyes narrowed when she head how Professor LOONEYwood referred to Thereos. Kurumi hadn't liked Divination any better with the centaur than she did now so that wasn't the issue. The issue Kurumi had was the blatant disrespect the woman was showing for not only a living being but a Hogwarts professor. Nonsense...it... Kurumi was appalled to be honest and it was based on her morals alone that Kurumi refused to answer the next question the woman had asked. Nope. Besides, HER classes were a bunch of nonsense as well. Calling the kettle black much? Still, Kurumi did search her own memory for some sort of recollection of what Ogham Staves were. She could vaguely remember coming across the name Ogham in her studying she had begun for her NEWTs and remembered thinking that the carvings on the alphabet used reminded her an awful lot of runes. Wasn't the meaning or interpretation of Ogham "Celtic Tree Alphabet" or something like that? Yeah, Kurumi remembered a bit about the subject but was not going to offer up any response. Instead Kurumi pretended to be taking notes on her parchment while she continued to listen to her classmates. Yeah, no answer for you Professor Disrespectful. |
Wait...they were actually going into the forrest? At this Nessie blinked, she wasn't too sure she was ready for this, but she didn't have time to prepare herself. She could do this, she urged herself on. Then she went to stand closer to the front, yet still in the middle. She wasn't one the older students there, but neither was she one of the younger ones. She was exactly in between, and so she felt it would be best to stand in the middle then, for protection and all of course. Following the class, Nessie continued to move her feet forward as they walked deeper into the forrest. This wasn't so bad after all, it was just like walking anywhere. The trick was keeping your mind off any thoughts that involved the dangerous creatures that lived in these surroundings, that would have been easy if it hadn't been for that student mentioning Acumantulas. When they had entered a small clearing, Ness stood still and had over heard someone mentioning the gigantic spider. They wouldn't be seeing one of those right...nor thestrals either? Gahh! Those thoughts had her really scared, and it was very difficult for her to concentrate now. Focus! She told herself, and then listened to the Professor's next question. Renesmee raised her hand, she wasn't too sure about what this Professor was talking about, but she decided to give a guess, just so she could seem clever and all you know. "Isn't it something to do with trees?" she asked as she looked around and noticed all the greenery. |
Text Cut: Professor Nodding automatically as Professor Elwood spoke, her eyes widened when a stick was pulled. She recognised the stuff right away for her neighbor used to be obsessed with this kind of Divination. The first year straightened and raised her hand ,"With Ogham Staves, wooden sticks are used and they are not random sticks," She said,"I believe they have specific carvings on them," She tried to see if the one held by the Professor had any. "It's an ancient method as far as I know." She finished settling back on her spot and listening to what other students said. |
Nerida raised an eyebrow was Professor Elwood honestly scared of a bug, it was a big bug but since she was a Professor it would be no problem for her right? Enjoy cloud shapes? Who would want to stare at clouds, sure it would be a major waste of a lesson but then again divination... She looked around at all the tress as the Professor did a waving motion to the trees around them. Oh the Ogham Staves sounded familliar. As she searched her brain for the answer she also listened for her other classmates. Hmm odd Kurumi hadn't answered she must not like Divination as well... Raising her hand she answered "Um are the Ogham Staves runes or divination runes? If there was such thing as that... Like each of the trees wood represent something in divination? Maybe the spirtual meaning or something like that... She had put some thought into the answer because this Ravenclaw did not answer questions with stupid answers unless she had no clue what the answer was. |
SPOILER!!: Scaredy Professor Spike nodded. "Yep, awesome giant spiders," he said with a innocent grin and bounce of his curls, made oblivious to the woman's discomfort by his own exuberance. "There was meant to be a whole colony in the forest at one point." If there was one thing Spike knew about, it was critters. Especially ones of the giant eight-legged variety. He looked around the clearing almost longingly. What was the point of being in the forest if you never got to see any of the awesome creatures? They could have looked at branches of trees just on the grounds. Cue pout and arms folded across his chest. Divination had gone down another notch in Spike Hutchinson's eyes. And no, the wink didn't get him on side. He looked at the stick, almost in disgust. "Bits of dead wood?" he suggested. Honestly, he was clueless. "Age rings?" He was going to suggest 'randomly shaped twigs' but thought that might be going a little too far, seeing as he was a Prefect. ...it was probably true though. |
Messer was listening the whole time. Since he didn't know what they're goin to do today, so he decided to stay quite and listened to the other students answers. He heard the Professor commenting on Kurumi's answer that she was close to what they will do today. Something we can take from the forest? What was that mean? Was they allowed to take anything from the forest? Then he raised hi eyebrows at the next question. Divination by whom? No he never heard that name before. |
SPOILER!!: professor Taylor looked at the professor as she talked. She smiled and listen closely to her. Tay always loved divination despite hating the future. Taylor raised her hand, "Professor isnt Ogham Staves, sticks that are carved with celtic symbols?" She thought she heard of them before and so she guessed though she wasnt too sure since Taylor really didnt pay attention when her nanny or dad had talked about her heritage... |
...Ogham what? Penelope blinked a couple times, as if that might magically make her understand what the professor was talking about. There was "ham" in it, so...did it have something to do with ham? Some way it was cooked? Were they going to eat it? Cool as that would be, Penelope doubted that very much. What did eating have to do with Divination? Nothing, unfortunately. So she just kept quiet, sort of listening to the other students' answer and sort of just looking around at her surroundings. Being in the Forbidden Forest was kinda cool after all. She wished she could come here more often. |

Ogham Staves-what? Ella had no idea what the heck this meant. It didn't even sound like a real thing. Hmm. Professor Elwood wouldn't go around just making things up for giggles would she? Just to see what the kids would say? ...No...she totally wouldn't. Considering the Professor was holding a stick, Ella decided to take a wild guess. It was better than nothing. "Erm...do we like...drop sticks in a pile and see what shapes they take?" Seemed legit. |
Wisteria watched the professor closely as she went on with her lesson. She didn't want to miss anything so instead of remaining in the back she started making herself to the front. Hmm, Ogham Staves? Witsy came across these vaguely in the library. "Professor, I read a little somewhere that there are 20 sticks present with symbols on each. That's really all I know. Will we be making them?" |
SPOILER!!: All you innocent children in the forest "Okay guys, attention over here please." Callie had noticed a few of the students' glances had begun to sway to the line of trees around their clearing due to some more noises but nothing sounded bad, so they would press on. Right, Ogham Staves. "Like a few of you all said, Ogham Staves are used in a form of Divination performed by the ancient Celtic diviners in which sticks and bits of wood are taken from the different types and breeds of trees that have been documented as important by the Celtic religions." She raised her stick and placed a finger at the end. "This, is where the Celtic Alphabet symbol is carved on the stick that is ideally taken from the corrisonding tree. That is, that the symbol and tree match correctly on each stick." If it was hard to understand now she promised it would make sense soon enough. "Firstly lets try and remember or guess which types of trees would be used in this Ogham reading. Remember what Mister Vanderbilt said, Wandlore also uses the same type of trees for wood that would be in some of your all's wands. Use that to help you." The Professor readjusted her skirt and waited for answers. "Just one type of wood per person please." She didn't want one person to hog all of them. |
Frightening the first years? How about sixth years too? Kurumi was not the biggest fan of Acromantulas...or spiders in general. So, sorry Professor Disrespectful, Spike was frightening some sixth years too. At the woman's next question, Kurumi glanced over at Vickers for a moment to smile. He really was brilliant and needed to break out of his shell and realize it. Kurumi then cocked her head to the side and looked down at her own wand before raising her hand. "Holly?" she asked. Her own wand was made from holly and she remembered some Celtic lore regarding the tree. Best guess she had at the moment anyway. |
So her suggestion hadn't been that far fetched? Wicked. Ella was usually rubbish with this Divination stuff so to be anywhere even close to correct was a major score. The second year listened, trying not to become too preoccupied with the noises of the forest. She still had her wand in hand though, and was gripping it rather tightly. Had to be prepared for anything, yeah? ...though hopefully no Hmm...one type of tree...and one that would also be used in wandlore? Well Ella's wand was spruce so.."Professor, would spruce be one?" |
Nodding weakly at what was said. It sure had some new information, but could she memorize them all. That was the question! Cassia was looking forward to skip the talking part and get to the doing part. Well, she knew they needed to talk before getting to work. But still... Considering the question, Cassia didn't know what exactly the kinds of wood the Professor meant. But with the generous hint she raised her hand, "Is Ash wood one of them?" She suggested. |
Penelope was a first year, but she wasn't really frightened by the one guy mentioning Acromantulas. They were just big spiders, apparently? Eh. Not that scary sounding to her. But anyway. So Ogham Staves were sticks? Like wands and stuff? Sort of? But with the Celtic alphabet - what was the difference between that alphabet and the normal one? - carved on them? Hm. But now they were naming off wood? And could use the one that their wands were made of? Well, that made answering this easier... ...if Penelope could remember what the shopkeeper had said hers was. Hm. Hmm. Oh yeah! "Oak?" she asked/answered, raising her hand. |
Gideon was chosing to ignore the talk of acromantulas, instead hoping the fact it was daylight rather then dusk or night would be a deterant for anything that they really needed to worry about. The prefect listening to what was being discussed and simply paying attention seeing as he wasn't sure of anything in regards to the topic at hand. However when the question was asked on woods that might be useful, the Gryffindor decided to give it a try, thinking back onto types of wand wood. "Perhaps apple would be used..." he offered after raising his hand so he could answer. Hadn't there been something between fruit trees and divination in the books they had had access to to create their 'wands' a few terms before? |
SPOILER!!: Elwood A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips. He got it right! Better yet Professor Up goes the hand again "Professor, there's also Hazel wood." he remembered that one pretty distinctly, as it was the kind of wood he worked on in their Runes class from last term |
Hearing that she was very good on both accounts made Nerida grin. She had read the book while at the Hospital when her mother was with a muggle healer or were they called doctors in the muggle world. Big huge spiders, eep the Prefect was kinda scaring her! Sure she had made fun of Professor Elwood but now she took it all back now that the Prefect was making it more frightening. At the mention of the Professor's newest question it made Nerida look down at her own wand. Her wand was made out of wood she was about to suggest oak when Penelope did it first. Hmm what were other woods looking around she saw a Blackthorn tree. There could be chance that it was the wood. Giving it a chance, "Is Blackthorn one? she suggested after raising her hand. |
Alyssa listened as the Professor explained what Ogham Staves were and how they were used. Then Professor Elwood asked the class what types of trees could be used in the Ogham Staves reading. Alyssa thought of the various tree wood that were used in Wands and waited as the others gave their answers before she raised her hand to give her answer. "I remember reading that the wood of the Rowan tree is long known for aid and protection against enchantments. Could that be used as one of the Ogham Staves?" |
Jory listened to the Professor as she explained what the staves were used for and the students, who started listing a tree each. He raised his hand after Alyssa. "Professor, can Cherry be one?'' he asked. |
Taylor thought about what the teacher said and then about the different woods. She listen to a few of the students as well and raised her hand, "If I am not mistaken, Professor, couldn't the Elder tree be used?" She knew that was an important wood in her heritage so why not give it a shot and she might of heard it somewhere in some history book but then again history wasnt her strong suit. |
So Ogham Staves not a person? Okay. He made a mental note about that. Thank Merlin he didn't humiliate himself by answering the previous question. And apparently it was used by the ancient Celtic diviners using sticks and bits of wood. Another ancient lesson. Sigh. He tried to listened to Professor explanation about the Ogham thingy. The same type of trees for wood that would be in some of your all's wands? What type of wood his wand was again? Scymymore. Scacamore. Soramore. Sycamore. That's it. He raised his hand up in the air. "How about Sycamore wood, Professor?" |
"Birch wood?" put in Sarah. She meanwhile wrote down all what the professor had said about the Ogham type of divanition. This tree stuff did sound 'BARKING' mad... |
Nigel did not know that this many types of trees existed. But now he had to think of a type of tree. He did know a little about Wandlore to help him out. Plus he did not care if his answer was already said. "Professor, is one type Yew?" |
Witsy looked at her wand, oak? she thought. She wondered if she were to carve on her wand if it could act like a charm in itself. |
SPOILER!!: Correct tree guesses! "Excellent examples!" Professor Elwood exclaimed as the majority of the class was able to name a wood type used in the Ogham style of Divination. Although the fact that a few were used in wandlore certainly helped. She ruffled in her bag and began to search for the sheets of parchment she would pass out after answering the other kids who had guessed woods that weren't on the list. SPOILER!!: Woods not on the list "Unforunately Spruce, Cherry, and Sycamore woods are not used in Ogham Stave readings despite their use in wandlore. Sorry guys. Good guesses though." Professor Elwood finally found the parchments for the next part of the lesson and was ready to move on. ------------------------ "Now you all named about half of the woods but there are still some others, a few you might not think would count but they do." She checked her parchment and then proceeded to tell them the rest. "Alder, Willow, Hawthorn, Fir, Gorse, Heather," she then pulled out three large tins from her bag filled with sticks like the one she had just showed them, "Vine, Reed, and Ivy." Callie said as she pointed to each of the three tins in response to the last three 'woods'. "These three I had to bring because they tend to be thinner in the wild and need to be dried before being used." The blonde Professor flicked her wand and sent a parchment to each student with all the wood names, their signals and the characteristics for the reading. SPOILER!!: Parchment Once a parchment had landed in the hands of each kid, Professor Elwood stood up and waved her wand around the tree walls of the clearing and marked each tree with a sign that said what they were, also sending a tag to the three in the tins. “Alright everyone, let’s go ahead and begin to collect your twenty pieces of wood, one from each of the tree types, and then return to the center of the clearing where we will start to carve our symbols.” And with that she released them to start working. OCC: Go ahead and START collecting the wood you don’t have to, or even finish in one post this is supposed to take a few posts I would like everyone to have at least 3 posts of collecting and then we will move on with carving once I say so. Also I know I didn't really label trees but lets pretend okay? Thanks! |
Still disappointed about the lack of acromantulas, and the Professors reaction, Spike had his lips pursed firmly together for the last question. Even though he could name many types of wood. He spent enough of his summer living in the woods at home, afterall. Expert den maker, was Spike. At the mention of the task though, Spike was forced to raise his hand. He was not at all up for risking damage to such a collection of trees. Lips still pursed, he raised his hand. "Could you care to, er, define 'collect' for us, Professor?" he asked. "I assume you don't mean 'hack chunks off?" |
Heather...Kurumi was reminded of one of her best friends in Gryffindor house and not the tree when Professor Elwood mentioned the name. Kurumi hadn't seen the girl or her stuffed panda for such a long time now and she was suddenly reminded of just how much she missed her. The girl had been Kurumi's first friend in Gryffindor house and had had more than a few awkward adventures together - namely those including Canary Creams. The smile that had appeared on Kurumi's face at all the memories that had come flooding back was gone the moment she received the parchment from Professor Elwood. They all...looked sort of the same. Merlin. These were going to be harder to remember than runes...and FAR worse than kanji. Holding the parchment in her hands, Kurumi walked over to the nearest labeled tree, which just so happened to be Heather, when she just happened to pass by the professor. Might as well ask a question while she was thinking of it, right? "Professor, is the method for carving Ogham Staves similar to the methods used for runes?" Chants and/or the Intalgio spell she meant. |
Laura knew she had to do this properly the Professor probably thought she was weird with the golf person guess but well she was just guessing and she didn't think she'd ever be any good at divination, she started collecting the sticks, the first few she got alright but then she went and picked one up and decided she didn't like it and went searching for another, she would make sure she got the best stuff. |
Quote:
"Oh, yes. There will be no disrespectful hacking at the trees. The best thing to do is either snap off a thin branch or use your wand to cut a small piece." This one seemed to have an air for trouble, she would have to keep an eye on him. Quote:
Professor Elwood turned to see that Prefect Hollingberry seemed to have lightened up even more since the beginning of the lesson and was now asking about the similarity in rune carving and that of the Ogham Staves. "Actually they are quite similar. Ancient Runes and Divination have many similarities and when you make what we are doing today you will have to use the Intaglio spell in order to carve the symbols into the sticks." "The original celtic practitioners used many chants and spell but they have been mostly lost to us so we won't be doing that, the fact that we are taking them from the original set of trees should do us fine enough." A practice that would have taken a lot longer than their lesson would allow for, so it was amost good they were lost. They wouldn't be doing the super in-depth types of readings anyways. |
Laura continued collecting the sticks, she was upto nine when she found a weird looking one and picked it up. "Professor does it matter if the stick looks funny?" Laura wanted to make sure everything was perfect. "And do they have to be the same size or doesn't it matter?" |
Alyssa listened as Professor Elwood told them the types of wood most suitable for making the Ogham Staves. When the Professor handed out parchments to each them, she quickly took a look at it. 'Wow. There are so many types involved. I guess I'd better start looking for those trees.' Alyssa thought to herself. She looked at the parchment before her. SPOILER!!: Parchment She was really glad that the Professor had identified the trees for them because right now, every tree looked the same to her. Using the parchment as a guide, Alyssa walked among the trees. "Okay, this one is an Ash Tree and the other one over there a Rowan and the next one over a Holly. Guess I'll go get a twig from each of them."Alyssa said to herself. Taking out her wand, she first went to the Ash Tree and looked for a low hanging branch. Reaching up to grab hold of it, Alyssa pointed her wand at it and said,"Diffindo". A beam shot out and neatly severed a small portion of the branch. Placing it safely in her back pack. She then repeated the same steps until she had a piece of twig from the Rowan and Holly tree as well. Alyssa placed them in her bag before looking for the other trees identified. |
Nigel was a little confused about what to do. But he did know they had to take a piece off labeled trees and write it down on the parchment Professor Elwood gave them. The answer to the question Kurumi asked made no sense to Nigel because he thought they were in divination or Ancient Runes. He still remembers have to give his own blood to make those ruins work. Even though it was cool, his figure hurt for the next couple days. Okay he started to walk around and pick pieces off the trees an write them down. "Yew, Holly, Rowan". He said as he checked them off as he went on to find more trees to identify, |
Quote:
As she reached the Birch tree she tucked the parchment under her arm. It would be more easier when looking around for the thin branch just like the Professor had said to Spike. Seeing a perfect branch she stood on her tippy toes and grabbed onto the branch and snipped it off using Diffindo. Umm where did she put it at was she just supposed to carry all twenty branches. Hmm who knows. Looking down at the parchment once again the next tree was Rowan. Where was the Rowan tree? After making two entire circles, she found it. Walking over to the tree a branch caught her eye, but it was high up...She stood on her tipped toes and tried to reach the branch and than began to jump up to try and reach it. No use she just wasn't tall enough. Taking out her wand she pointed it at the branch and said "Diffindo.", the branch fell off the tree and into Nerida's waiting arms. Onwards to the...taking a glance at her parchment....Onwards to the Alder tree...What was a Alder tree? She had never heard of such thing. Because of this it took Nerida a bit longer to find the Alder tree, but once she did she walked on over and began looking for a thin branch. After looking for a couple minutes she found a thin branch. Taking out her wand she did the spell she had done only a couple minutes ago, Diffindo. Like before the branch fell into her hands. SPOILER!!: Parchment |
Quote:
Still, connecting what they were doing today to Ancient Runes subconsciously made Kurumi take this all a little more seriously. Ironic. Nodding at Professor Elwood, Kurumi wished that her hands were not preoccupied right now with carrying sticks so that she could take some notes, but she would just have to rely on her memory for the time being. "Interesting," Kurumi nodded, showing some genuine interest again. "Thank you, professor." Now...back to collecting wood. Clutching the Heather twig in her left hand, Kurumi continued to walk around and snapped off a few branches with her right hand from various trees. First came a small but sturdy looking Birch branch, and then a rather short and stubby Hawthorn twig, and finally a thick branch from the Rowan tree that she had to use Diffindo to remove. She couldn't help but giggle as she glanced down at her handout to see 'Lewis' written beside the word Rowan. Hmm...it made her wonder what Lewis' wand was made from. She should ask some time. Returning to her bag for the moment, Kurumi dropped off her four pieces of wood to free her hands before continuing. |
Now that Alyssa had Rowan, Ash and Holly in her bag, she went looking for the other trees that she needed a twig from. She looked at her parchment again and lightly lined out the ones she had with a pencil. SPOILER!!: Parchment She looked for the next tree nearest to her and found that it was the Yew tree. That would represent the Ogham Stave Idad. Alyssa reached up and snapped off a twig from that before moving on to the next tree which was a Birch. She pulled down the lowest hanging branch and broke off a twig from that. Adding both twigs into her bag, she moved on to the next tree which she immediately recognized. It was a Fir Tree. Alyssa reached over and pulled of a twig from the tree twirling it in front of her nose. Also loved the smell of Fir. Next she came across the Apple Tree. The tree had apples growing from its branches and Alyssa so wanted to grab one and bite into it but didn't dare, just in case the Professor saw her do it. So resisting the urge to do so, Alyssa just concentrated on breaking off a twig from the Apple tree and placed that together with the twig from the Fir tree into her bag. Next she came across a majestic tree and Alyssa looked at the tag. The Elder tree. 'So this is the tree that an Elder wand was made from. Well not this tree, but a relative of it.' Alyssa thought to herself. Alyssa reached up high on tiptoes and her fingertips managed to brush a branch and she pulled it down before breaking a twig off from it. When she let go, the branch sprang up and Alyssa and to quickly step back to avoid getting slapped by it. It was then that she wondered where the Bowtruckles were hiding. So far she hadn't seen any of them lurking around in the branches of the trees. She hoped that there weren't any in this group of trees, as she walked over next to the Alder tree. Admiring its thick trunk and tall branches, Alyssa reached up and broke off a twig before adding that together with the Elder branch into her bag. Then she walked on until she came to the Willow Tree. She reached and picked up one of its branches and broke off a twig from that. Next to the Willow Tree sat an old Oak Tree. Its branches were thick and strong, so Alyssa took out her wand, and holding a piece of the twig with the other, severed the twig from the rest of the branch by saying, "Diffindo". Once she had the twig in her hand added that together with the twig of the Willow Tree into her bag. She now had a couple of branches and so opened up her parchment again to line out those that she had collected. SPOILER!!: Parchment Once she was done crossing out the twigs she had collected, Alyssa made her way to the next group of trees. |
Taylor smiled as her guess was confirmed. She looked at her parchment. Tay had heard of most of them so she started for a group of trees. SPOILER!!: parchment She glanced around her and found a heather tree. Tay got a stick from there then went on to a Yew tree, getting a stick from there as well. Taylor smiled as she went to the fir tree and admired it as she took one from there as well. Tay frowned at all the dirt that was getting on her though despite loving nature, she was still a girly girl. She got some wood from an Elder tree then skipped to a Poplar tree. Taylor grimaced as it was hard to get a stick from that tree and smiled as she finally got one. Tay glided to a reed tree and snapped a twig off that. With each tree, she collected from, she say a small sorry despite feeling stupid since it was how she was raised, to respect nature. |
Alyssa checked her parchment to see what were the remaining twigs she needed to collect SPOILER!!: Parchment Alyssa next came across the Poplar tree, and reached up and broke off a twig from its branches. She then headed for the next tree that had been labelled Blackthorn. Reaching up, Alyssa pulled down a branch, snapped a twig off from it before letting the branch swing up. Holding the two twigs in her hand, she made her way to the next tree labelled nearby and saw that it had been labelled Gorse. She quickly but gently broke off a twig from its branches before putting that and the rest of the twigs she had collected into her backpack, adding them to those already in her bag. Walking onwards, Alyssa arrived at the Hawthorn tree. She looked up and saw how far it stretched up in the sky. Reaching up on tiptoes, Alyssa managed to grab a branch with her fingertips and pull it down low enough for her to break off a twig from it. Release the branch, it sprang up to join its companions. Alyssa next walked over to the tree that was labelled, Heather and leaned over to pulled down a branch from which she broke off a twig. Dropping the twigs she had collected into her bag, Alyssa looked at her list and realized that she only had to collect twigs from the Blackthorn and Hazel tree and then she would be done. So she looked around trying to find the last two trees. Then she spotted them at the far end of the group of trees. She ran over to the Blackthorn and broke off a twig from it before walking over to the last tree on her list, the Hazel Tree. Alyssa looked around until she saw a branch that she could reach and got on her tiptoes and grabbed it with her fingers. Stretching as high as she could, she broke off a twig from the branch. Now that she had the twigs of the Blackthorn and the Hazel Tree, Alyssa opened her bag and dropped them inside. Then she took her parchment and lined out what she had collected to make sure that she had not missed any out. SPOILER!!: Parchment She noticed that she still had the Vine, Reed and Ivy to collect before she realized Professor Elwood had told them that she had some in the tins. Satisfied that she had collected all she could, Alyssa went back to where the Professor waited for them. She walked over to the tins where the Professor had placed them and reached in pulled out a twig from each of them. Vine, Reed and Ivy. Her list was now completed. |
Wood lice....could there be any better lunch?! This little Bowtruckle was having a nice little lunch when he had heard the scittering and scattering of the rest of his family about the tall things in the forest again, the soft-ones. The didn't have hard bark-like skin like the Bowtruckles, they were different and NOT supposed to be in these woods. They had been known to come into the forest from time to time but there were a lot of them today and they were making lots of noise.... AND BREAKING THE TREES!!! One Bowtruckle reached out and tried to scratch one girl (sweetpinkpixie) and his friend jumped out on the ground infront of another who was trying to attack his tree-home. "Ra!! Raaa! Rit raaa!" The little guy jumped around and was poking his fingers in the air at the all the intruders. |
Hoping that her wood wouldn't go rolling away, Kurumi passed by the three tins set out by Professor Elwood and made a mental note to herself not to panic that there were no trees labeled that way because, well, they had been provided with the materials. So that was, technically, three more down bringing her total up to seven. Quote:
o____________O Looking down Kurumi couldn't help but gasp at the Bowtruckle that was beginning to, or trying at least, to attack her leg. See, Professor Elwood, SHOULD have brought someone else with you. Kurumi somehow doubted that the woman knew how to deal with creatures too, seeing as she had insulted Theroes in front of students like that. But not the point, there were Bowtruckles coming out of the woodwork - literally - which meant that one of their trees was nearby. Or all of them really seeing as they resided in trees used to make wands. "Everyone, stop for a second," Kurumi called out. They were all going to upset the poor creatures if they just carried on like this. Ceasing all movement towards any trees, Kurumi instead knelt down so she wasn't towering over the creatures and glanced over at the professor. "Um...professor...did you happen to bring any wood lice or fairy eggs with you?" |
Taylor paused in crossing out the trees that she had collected on her parchment when one of the prefects told everyone to stop. She looked about in confusion until she saw the bowtruckles. Tay's eyes grew and grimaced. |
Jory checked the parchment and began his collection of the twigs. He decided to start with the yew tree. After locating it, broke a piece of the twig off the tree. Onto the next- Poplar. The Badger went of in search of the tree ans soon located it. He stood on tiptoe and tugged at a particularly stubborn twig. He had no trouble finding the Heather tree, the labeling made it so much easier. He didn't have to reach so far to get a twig off this tree. Jory was at the Gorse tree when he suddenly heard some weird noises. Looking around in alarm, he spotted some bowtruckles on the ground and one had just scratched Kurumi. "You okay?'' he called to her as he quickly snatched a gorse twig. But he paused after the Gryffindor prefect told them to stop what they were doing. He didn't mind since he did not fancy getting scratched. |
Nerida had already began picking on a Willow branch and was on her tip toes when she heard Kurumi yell for everyone to stop moving. Eep she didnt want to move she might get "attacked" by one of the bowtruckles. Her legs began to wobble and she couldnt help it she moved and sure enough she felt a little scratch come on her leg. "Ouch, sorry Kurumi had to move..." She looked over at the Professor doubting she had any lice or fairy eggs, really the Professor should have brought a Professor that wasnt so afraid of creatures or knew how to deal with them, like Professor Williamson. |
Sarah took the partchment she was given and listened to the Professor. Sarah headed to the birch tree and snapped off a twig, she did the same at the Willow, Rowan and Ash trees. Snap, snap, she now had 4 twigs. She headed over to the Alder tree and began looking for a nice twig - SNAP! she got one, a fine branch/twig made of Alder wood. The next one was Hawthorn - she added that too to her collection. |
oh boy catching up X3 SPOILER!!: Elwood He caught the parchment in his hand and poured over it. Yep Ravenclaw geeking out here mhmm. He spotted the woodtype he suggested plus the others types that was mentioned by the class, glancing up only when other students started standing up to move on to the next activity. Oh right, wood collecting-- based on the guide. Awesome! He took his parchment and neared the Professor again, smiling shyly as he hovered near the tins for the Ivy, Reed and Vine "Uh... I'll start collecting these Professor." he mumbled as he collected one of each, slipping them gently into his robes pocket. He turned towards the closest set of trees and matched the label to the list on the parchment. Ok so there was Birch, and Rowan wasnt too far away. He neared the foot of the Birch tree and eyed the ground, bending over and eyeing the fallen twigs and branches until he found something still good enough for their use. He did the same when he neared the Rowan tree, picking up and discarding the pieces on the forest floor until he was left with one. Then he heard someone-- Kurumi?-- calling out for everyone to stop SPOILER!!: Bowtruckles He turned towards the sound, those icy blues grew large in alarm as he realized the Forest creatures have made an appearance. They didnt like what they were doing did they? His eyes darted immediately to the Professor. What were they supposed to do now? |
"Diffindo" Sarah heard someone say. Oh- that was the magical way of doing it - she headed over to the Oak tree that stood rather impressively "Diffindo" she said and twig broke off. She did the same at Holly and Hazel Tree. A big Apple tree faced her next. "Diffindo" she said and a twig came off. Blackthorn was next followed by Elder. She was about to head to the next tree when she heard Kurumi telling everyone to stop - so she did. |
all of you <33 but waiting for Elwood and/or bowtruckles to post again :3 Eyes still on the bowtruckles that were clearly less than pleased with what was going on, Kurumi glanced over at Jory when he asked about her leg. "I'm fine," she smiled reassuringly. She had suffered far worse than the scratch from a bowtruckle in her six terms at Hogwarts. She threw Nerida a small smile as well, nothing wrong with moving it was more about physically removing things from the trees that Kurumi was concerned with. ....and apparently Sarah hadn't heard her ask people to hold for a moment and had continued to use the Severing Charm to remove branches from the trees. Oh Merlin...hopefully none of the bowtruckles decided to escalate their behavior and bite her fingers off. They could be vicious when they wanted to or when they felt threatened...and clearly they were at least feeling mildly threatened right now. Vickers had the right idea, picking up sticks and fallen twigs off the ground...but Kurumi wasn't too sure that these forest dwelling creatures were going to take lightly to anything that they did now that they were out of their trees and making angry noises at them. Which is why she looked towards Professor Elwood for the time being. So...about those wood lice or fairy eggs? "Or perhaps we should all pause gathering wood for the time being and collect wood lice ourselves? That way we could pair off or work on our own to distract them with the wood lice while we collect our remaining wood?" |
All of you people. xD...Even though Ness hasn't actually said anything. So today they would be collecting branches? ...That's really the only reason they were in the forrest for? Wow! Less scary than Nessie thought it would be. Now where to begin? Renesmee eyed her parchment looking at all the different type of tree's they would need to collect from. She then looked up and looked at the labels on the tree. Birch was first up on her list and with that Nessie headed over to a tree and picked off a branch that looked big enough. She then went off to a tree labeled Rowan and did the same. This seemed pretty easy..or at least for now. It was when Nessie had went over to the tree near Kurumi that everything started to go all chaotic. There were bowtruckles...bowtruckles that were beginning to attack this was not good. The Hufflepuff froze in her place, she was too shocked to speak or move. She wanted to ask Kurumiu if she was alright, but the words just wouldn't come out of her mouth. She was in too much of a panic state and she could feel her head starting to feel heavy and dizzy. This was what usually happened before she fainted...which mean that it really wasn't good. Hopefully the dizziness would go away before something really bad happened. The ground and everything became a little blurry around her and it took Nessie ever bit of concentration to stay standing. |
Catching up with all you guys! Text Cut: Professor Elwood Cassia nodded as the Professor explained about the kinds of wood. She held the parchment sent by Professor Elwood and read them fast. The first year got up and turned to the trees getting ready to collect as the Professor instructed. Cassia read the parchment again thoughtfully then headed to the first tree, "I guess this is Willow," She murmured as she snapped a tiny twig. She walked to the nearest tree which is Ash according to the Parchment. Looking at her friends ,Cassia retrieved her wand from her pocket and pointed at a branch and said," Diffindo!" An average-sized twig fell to the ground. The Slytherin bent and pocketed it with the twig from the Willow tree. Checking the list again, She headed towards another tree further to the left, "And that is Holy," She said to no one. Again she aimed her wand and, "Diffindo." And the twig fell into her out stretched hand. Text Cut: Bowtruckle Text Cut: Gryffindor Prefect As Cassia was heading to her fourth tree, she heard something other than her friends whispers and chats. She turned to find small creatures. And one of them tried to attack a student. The Gryffindor Prefect . Luckily the girl announced that she was fine. Wood lice?! Cassia heard once that some creatures in the forest nourish on it, "Does anyone knows what does it look like, the wood lice I mean?" The small first year asked as she stepped closer to her classmates. They probably should act or wait until Professor Elwood says something. |
