Jory made notes of the thirteen stones. He pondered hard on the question for a while before raising his hand. "Is there twelve sections and they represent each of the astrological signs, Professor?'' he asked. |
SPOILER!!: Professor What the heck was Lithomancy? Zhenya shrugged to herself and continued to listen to the Professor. When she paused, Zhenya realised she should probably be taking notes, so she quickly pulled out some paper and a quill and began neatly writing everything she remembered down. Slowly she was understanding what Lithomancy was and how they did it and why. She decided to listen and, as students said what some of the stones and their meanings were, she wrote them down in a small table she had drawn up. Quote:

SPOILER!!: Nerida's Notes |
Moarrrr scribbling..... When he had time to pause, he looked up at the board, thirteen stones representing almost every heavenly body plus the elements... and they were supposed to cast them onto a circular field no larger than a foot in diameter? Thats bound to get really crowded. But then maybe that was the point... Blue eyes scrolled the 13 items listed on the board as he pondered how many sections that circle was supposed to be divided in. Was it supposed to be a section for each stone? Each representation? But the Professor said the circle was made out of a string, he figured this has got to be something simpler, imagine having to divide a foot-long circle into 13 or even 12 parts. Given that this was something totally new to him he raised a tentative hand to reply "Uhm... are they split into 4 sections which represent...." what? Eyes darts back to the board ".... the four elements, Earth, Air, Fire and Water?" |
Chelle stared at the other students in class as they answered. She was a little bewildered. In other words, this whole thing seemed to be a little illogical and was going right over her head. But she was determined to understand it. She scribbled down whatever was on the blackboard on her parchment. Quote:
Yes, she had read about Loops, too. She just didn't know where it would fit in. |
Alyssa thought of the various possibilities and the number of sections would be involved in the reading before raising her hand. "Professor, I agree with Vickers. I believe that the circle is divided into 4 Quadrants, each representing a different purpose in one's life. The 4 quadrants could further be divided into 12 segments to represent the days and weeks in a person's life." Alyssa hoped that she made sense. |
Derrick listened to everyone's answers until he thought of an answer. He raised his hand,''The circle is divided into what I believe is 4 Quadrants.''He grinned and paused.''Which represents different purposes in Others lifes.''There was more to it,But he couldn't bother to say it. |
Ella frowned. Poor Pluto! The little guy was getting the shaft again! The second year couldn't help but think back to the debate they had had about the teeny planet last term. She still felt very strongly that he belonged with the others. The second year began scribbling down notes, not all that neatly, and the frown stayed on her face as a sign of respect for the little ex-planet. Ella wasn't sure about the sections of the circle. She didn't recall ever reading about that aspect of today's lesson so she sat quietly, quill ready to write down how many there were and the meaning of them. |

So, Nora understood most of what the professor told them, and it was quite fascinating for her. But as things got complicated... she was lost. Totally lost. What was she going to do, then? She was going to stay quiet and take lots and lots of notes, so she could eventually study more carefully later. She didn't know the answer to her last question either, so taking notes was the best thing she could do at the moment. Maybe trying to concentrate more would be great as well. |
Sarah listened to the professor and saw waht was on the board. She hastily wrote it down. Quote:

OHhhh Paaaauuulliieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. SPOILER!!: The Head Boy Glares. Aspen glared right BACK. He was so transparent, too, she noted. He was thinking about her, he was scheming. Aspen turned in her seat so that she could watch him. Hopefully, he'd start squirming. She discreeeeetely inched her wand out and gently tapped it against her leg. Tap... tap.... LOOK...tap.... and smiiiiiiiiile. Innocent Odessa, just thoughtfully gazing at the Head Boy. Nothing to worry about. Quote:
Hmmm? Aspen turned her attention from baiting the Head Boy back to.... the Professor. Depressing? Didn't have to seem so depressing? Aspen frowned at the Professor. It was the same thing. Was the truth depressing to the Professor? Wasn't that interesting. Aspen would stick to the truth, facts, and... not give more "depressing answers". No. She chose not to answer the next question and went back to Head Boy Watching. HBW. |
Nigel did not really care about Pluto unless they were talking about the dog Pluto. He knew from his parents that Pluto is not a planet but a dwarf planet like Ceres, Haumea, Makemake, and Eris. He liked the eight planets more than the five dwarf planets anyway. He was shocked that there actually was a sun stone. Which then made it likely that the there was a stone connected to the other planets as well. Nigel was not sure about anything Professor Elwood was saying right now so he decided to just take notes and try and learn something about Lithomancy. |
Well, Kimalia was losing herself again among the important lesson. Trying to concentrate, she heard the Professor say something about the stones.. and the planets.. and numbers... now about the sections. It was hard, but she didn't want to lose anything as she hurriedly jotted down what was being displayed. SPOILER!!: Kimalia's notes Hmm.. how many sections? Well, Kimalia didn't know exactly so she waited to hear the others answer so she could jot it down too. |
Harvey noted everything down that was on the board he didn't want to forget all of that.. that was for sure. He listened to what the professor asked of them.. he had no idea as to what the answer would be, so after he finished copying what was on the board he sat there waiting for the professor to deem whether the answers were correct or not, so that he may write those down as well. |
Annabelle heard the professor ask a question about the stones. But she was copying down the stones and their meanings into her notebook. SPOILER!!: Annabelle's Notes After she was done copying, she made an educated guess to the question. "Professor isn't the stones like separated by what they are capable of? Like the 4 quadrants and they all represent a section of life and the natural elements." She tried the best she could. |
And so he was right about the water stone. Jonathan knew a few of them but he wasn't that sure enough what the Water stone and it's reading. The Professor mentioned 13 and yet Jonathan only knew about 5 of them, he even barely knew what they each meant. Thankfully, he remembered the Water Stone. Then Jonathan took out his quill and parchment to copy what was written on the board. SPOILER!!: Jonathan's notes While copying the notes, he listened to the professor explained further more about them. It makes sense once he read his book. Divination is not a strong subject for Jonathan but he tries to keep up with it nonetheless. Does anyone have an ideas as to how many and what they stand for? Quite frankly, Jonathan doesn't have a clue in any of it. The question itself was confusing him already. So he stayed his head lowered as he tries to finish copying the notes on the board. |
João wrote what he could catch as fast as he could in his notebook. He copied the list and would have liked to think on them for a moment, but the professor was already asking things and he had to listen to her. Hearing a few answers, he figured his answer would be wrong again. But he would go by his logic. And who knew? Maybe even Kurumi was wrong and he would be right? Hehe. Raising his hand, he said "There are 3 sections, perhaps? One for the past, one for the present and one for future." Because only that was the phases of interpreting. |
SPOILER!!: Smarty pants students who give answers Calista crossed her legs and rearranged her skirts before moving on. "Very good answers everyone, even those who were not technically correct, I see the thought processes that went into those educated guesses." She grinned at them all, and made a mental note of those who were taking notes. The warmth was definately creating a cozy learning environment and she was just glad she could wear sandals without her toes freezing off. Anyways back to teaching. "Many of you suggested correctly that our lithomancy reading field would be seperated into 12 sections that represent the upcoming 12 weeks of the reader or subject's life. Mister Vickers suggested a parent seperation class before that, 4 quadrants." She paused and went to the board to draw the diagram. Quote:
Hopefully they were all copying this down, she understood it was more information than the last lesson but it was still all very important. "Before I set you loose to do something on your own, I am going to go over one more term and then ask you for your thoughts on another. When casting the stones into the reading field we will be studying where they fall, in what sections and in relation to others. So one of the important terms to think about when deciphering your lithomancy reading is the one called Cluster/s." The Blonde paused while they students wrote away. "Clusters are exactly what they sound like, they are groups of stones that have fallen closely together and seem to have something to do with each others." Yeah, easy enough. "So here's an example, say in my first section (the first week after the reading in my future) 2 stones fell directly beside each other, forming a cluster, Venus and Mercury. Now perhaps that means I will be able to communicate more freely with someone I love or perhaps they will finally approach me?" And no that had nothing to do with her pesonal life! So now for their turn to answer something. "What do you think pointers are in a reading." If they thought about clusters they should hopefully get pointers. |
The sixth year wrote down the list of given stones once they were confirmed to be correct, including his own guess of the water stone. That way he had it there in his notes and not just in the reading. Gideon then listened as the class moved on in describing the actual field on which the various stones would be read. So lithomacy readings were almost like natal charts, at least with the fact that there were twelve sections and how something, whether it was stones or signs, fell within the various sections was what the meaning meant. Interesting....very interesting. Gideon copied down the chart into his notes as Professor Elwood crew it up on the board with chalk and then thought upon her question. Pointers...pointers...what were pointers? The prefect raised his hand when something came to mind, hoping to supply something at least a little close to what it was actually. "Are pointers...stones that land in such a way to point towards another? So that you can read one as a predecessor to the next as if a cause and effect role?" |
Alex scribbled down everything the professor was saying as fast as he could...Divination could be so simply, and yet other times (like today) it was SO confusing. All these circles and sections and nonsense...it was going to take him a few minutes to get all this in his brain. He raised his hand as he flipped through his textbook, looking for the answer to the professors question. "Erm, aren't pointers like...points on the stone if they aren't completely round? So it actually makes it a literal POINTER?" he answered. "It could be pointing to another stone which could signal some sort of significant connection between the two," he added as an example. |
Nigel did not understand what the teacher was asking. He was still looking at what was on the blackboard. Hmm.. it looked like a wheel Nigel thought. Well whatever, he just kept on taking notes hoping he would understand this when it was over. |
So he was wrong and Kurumi was right, after all. João shrugged to himself. No big deal. He wasn't expecting much anyway from this class. He was merely here to seek some answers to his daily-life problems. Not that Divination would come up with a good answer... he could always hope though. After done with taking notes and listening, he pondered the question asked in vain. He had no idea what they were! So he remained silent... wondering if this class would mean anything to him in the end. |
Ella tried her best to follow along while Professor Elwood explained how the circle would be broken up. She copied down notes as the explanation continued, stopping now and then to reread what she had written. Apparently reading stones was a little more complicated than the second year had originally thought... Okay, so clusters were stones that fell closely together. That was understandable. She could totally grasp that concept. But what were pointers? Ella had seen her muggle teachers use pointers in elementary school. They were wooden sticks used to point to information on the board. Perhaps pointers in this scenario meant stones that lead to a certain cluster. "Professor, are pointers the stones that fall and lead towards a cluster?" Seemed legit to Ella! |
To say that Louisa was writing every word professor Elwood was saying, was an understatement. She'd written the professor's words and some more, either from students that said something made sense to her or simply intrigued her or her own thoughts about what she was writing. And yes, Louisa could write, comprehend, debate in her mind, aaaaand make a good handwriting. She wasn't wearing a blue badge for nothing. When the teacher asked about pointers, though, she merely sat there. Her hand clutching the quill and ready to start scribbling again any second now. Come oooonnn fellow students. |
After her last guess, even though it had apparently been correct, Stella had gone back to just quietly taking notes. Especially as soon as Professor Elwood had written the thirteen stones up on the board for them, as she didn't want to forget any of those. Writing them down helped her remember the information better than just relying on her textbook, whether or not she knew said information would be found inside. The discussion had most definitely moved past identifying the stones they'd be working with, though, and she quickly sketched the circular field diagram into her notes as well. It wasn't perfect, but then she wasn't an artist. If she wanted a perfect drawing, she'd ask her mother or Matt over Christmas, but that wasn't important. She'd gotten the idea down. Another question had been asked, and after taking notes on the topic of clusters, she found herself raising her hand yet again. It was just a thought, as she hadn't looked in the book again yet, but she was at least curious if it was on the right track. If pointers had to do with clusters, like she had a feeling they might. "Do pointers serve to help clarify the meaning of a cluster? I mean, using your example, you aren't sure if the Venus and Mercury stones are telling you if you're going to be the communicator or the person you love is, so perhaps you find the Mars stone nearby. Or the Spirit stone. Not really part of the cluster, but it might still clarify your reading of the other two stones," she said. It was probably entirely wrong, but at least she'd said something. That meant she wouldn't have the idea floating around in her head and confusing her later. |
