Um, um, um. Gosh daaarn iiiit. She was gonna talk 'bout the sun stone. Pouty face. Blue flicked through the textbook quickly, searching for another stone. She did it so fast she got a PAPER CUT. NOOOOOOES. :whaa: But Blue, cause she was brave like that, answered the question despite the pain. "Umm, Professor, I think the fire stone is um heat and passion." Heat was probably wrong and it felt like she was missing some thing else. Ah well. BEAM. |

She made a vow not to speak in this class again. --- Quote:
And then she promptly broke it. "The Universe," Aspen spoke with a quiet, slightly bored tone. "It represents how small and insignificant we all really are in a comparative way. We're a speck, a flicker." Quote:
....and again, Aspen was tickled. A first year talking about FIRE and PASSION. It was too much, she actually giggled. Out loud. Maybe it was the heat? No, really, demon possession. At least that'd be interesting... |
Oichi raised her hand and responded, "Theres the spirit stone professor. It represents the needs of self and for communication with the divine.". |
Alyssa tried to remember what she had read about Lithomancy and what the 13 stones represented. When she remembered she raised her hand and said,"Professor one of the 13 stones is the Mars stone which represents - courage, defensive magic, battle, or conflict." |
So there were 13 stones. Sarah wondered if in other countries there were more. "There is the Air stone which represents Wishes, hopes, dreams and inspiration". she said. She was an airy fairy person at times, and reality is often cruel to her after her countless daydreams and planning. |
Stones, this seemed rather interesting. Crossing her legs underneathe her desk, the red head listened intently to the lesson. So the Professor was going on about some divination done with stones. Ness pouted as she tried to remember the word the Professor had used. What was it again? Or right it was 'Lithomancy'. The red head immiediately jotted this down on some parchment, now she would hopefully remember. Hmmm..13 stones. The pout on Nessie's face grew. Surely she'd know at least one right. Then she remebered someone once talking to her about this or well a certain stone at least. "Um..Professor, I think there's a stone Venus and if I remember correctly its associated with love, fidelity and happiness?" It was more of a question, cause Nessie herself wasn't too sure if it was true or not. Hopefully it was and hopefully she hadn't made a full of herself by talking utter rubbish. |

Thinking about it, Nora actually read something about those! You know, since Divination was not an easy subject and Nora was such a curious little creature, she liked satisfying that disturbing curiosity of hers. "There is the Moon," she said with a hand in the air, "and it represents inspiration, intuition, and psychic ability." Too bad the last one didn't start with an I, so they could be called the three I's. It would have been cool, and easier to remember. |
Louisa found this interesting. More interesting than wearing Gypsy clothes and pretend to be fortune tellers any ways. Hearing other students' answers, she quickly looked down at the textbook and shot her arm in the air. "There's Saturn stone, too, professor." Louisa looked up into the woman's face with an amused smile, "Represents longevity, protection, and purification." |
Lithomancy...right, the prefect marking down the correct word in his notes. At least he had been on the right track with the correct idea if not the correct spelling and pronunciation. Gideon listened to the rest of the students ideas and answers, several of them the same as him guessing the subject they would be working on correctly. And then when Professor Elwood moved on to explain a little more about the subject he had to say it certainly sounded interesting even if he wasn't normally one to be too into the idea. Gideon turned to the subject in their textbook to try and pick a stone to answer the latest question with, listening to those appeared more knowledgeable on the subject who were already answering. "Theres the water stone which represents compassion and healing." |
Text Cut: DanialRadFAN01 Oh, hmm. Well, at least Sierra had mentioned Lithomancy. That had to count as correct, right? She thought so. She eyed Aspen, who'd brought up looking the part. She had to admit that even though her answer was wrong, it was still smart of her to remember that last lesson. She got a special mention for it, at least. Ravenclaws... ...and then she heard her name, causing her to sink just a little in her seat. Thanks for pointing out my mistake, PROFESSORRRRRR! Hmph. From that point on, she listened to the description of what they really were doing. She wouldn't suggest the wrong answer again. Why couldn't Hollingberry have gotten singled out anyway?! "There's the stone for Jupiter," she said, raising her hand. "It represents good fortune, expansiveness, and a gain of wealth and money." Sounded good to her. |
João didn't quite get how they would let them fall without getting them into the air first, hence the throwing into the air, but he let it pass. He wasn't going to question the logic behind this class, because there was none. So. Stones. Lovely. Only, he didn't know anything about them. Lovelier. Sitting there, taking notes was the only possible activity for him, so he just did that. |
Honestly, Stella was already half lost, almost like she would have been in an ancient runes lesson. Of course, that used stones too, at least some of the time, but she flicked through her textbook quickly as she continued to take notes. She didn't want to not participate, now that she was in the class. She was hyper-aware of the fact there were other Ravenclaws who had possibly given, well, interesting answers, though, so she put some thought into if she wanted to make a guess this time around. Shefound herself raising her hand anyway, which meant that she needed to speak. She'd look stupid if she didn't, at least. "What about Mercury? That stone represents intellect, communication, media, and even education, among other things," she said, lowering her hand hesitantly. She really wasn't entirely sure of her answer. It was said now, though, and she couldn't take it back. So back to just quietly taking notes and hoping she hadn't looked like an idiot. |
Merlin's beard! So Ella had actually been on the right track? O__O Cool beans! Apparently she wasn't as out of the loop when it came to Divination as she thought. That was a relief. And as for the 13 stones, Ella tried to decide on one so she could share its meaning. How about the air stone? The second year had read a bit about that one. "Professor, there's the air stone. It has to with wishes, inspiration, and erm-dreams!" |
Stones....huh... Well, Lily wasn't all that knowledgeable in stones, so this was going to be a tricky class. Quietly, as the rest of her classmates answered the question, the redhead pulled out her textbook and her parchment and started to take notes. As people answered, Lily copied what they said into notes. Text Cut: her notes |
Oakey followed along with the class as much as he could and to his surprise he was understanding it little by little. He looked at the pile of stones that was sitting in front of Professor Elwood. He took to his text book and listened to some of the responses, He read the thirteen different types and settled on the one he liked the most. Professor He spoke up raising his hand There is the Universe Stone, it represents our place in the grand scheme of things, on a cosmic level. |
Lithomancy... Addie didn't get this type of divination, she enjoyed the dress up as fortune tellers and build wagons version. Now divination was getting hard. Addie tried to think back to reading her divination textbook. There was stuff in there about Lithomancy wasn't there. Something about planets being stones maybe? Addie was thinking about it a lot. Why hadn't her mum prepared her for this??? Then one popped into her head, Venus, love, beauty, etc. Just like the Roman goddess Venus. Addie raised her hand. "Professor isn't one Venus, and it stands for love and beauty." Right? Maybe. |
Kurumi remained silent as her classmates listed off stones and their meanings. Since Kurumi had never actually studied any of this, she was sort of out of the loop when it came to possible meanings. However, as it became clear that they were simply stones that represented the planets, she felt a little more at ease. She knew about that, especially since the ones mentioned were, for the most part, associated with days of the week and that was something that was taken rather seriously in the culture she grew up in. Jotting down some notes, Kurumi couldn't help but think of a few questions and slowly raised her hand - especially since she was pretty sure that all thirteen had already been mentioned, so there was no need to repeat answers. "Professor, why 13?" she asked, cocking her head to the side as she tried to make some sort of FACTUAL connection. "I know in some ancient cultures and beliefs that the number can represent a powerful solar symbol and ancient Egyptians believed there are thirteen steps upon the ladder that leads to eternity and when you reach that step you attain spiritual completion..." She was sort of just rambling off facts right now, grabbing at straws for some sort of connection, but she actually was genuinely curious as to why 13 stones as opposed to 12 or whatever other number. |
Annabelle was hearing everyone's responses. She copied them all down into her book, she remembered the last stone that not everyone mentioned yet. Or at least she thought..."Professor isn't there the universe stone?" she asked unsure that her answer is right. "The universe stone is our place in the grand scheme of things, on a cosmic level." She heard one of her classmates ask about why was it only original 13 stones? She was curious about the answer too. |
Stella & Aspen & Elwood Oh! Well, look who showed up: his Alchemy partner! Paulie threw Stella a characteristic lopsided smile as the girl claimed a seat beside him. "Hey," he greeted simply. His eyes wandered suddenly, though, when he felt someone looking at him. And someone WAS looking at him. Glaring, more like it. Aspen Odessa. But, because he was in class and because he was a Hogwarts leaderrr, he only narrowed his eyes at the girl who had blew her top at him in Charms. Maybe if he caught her as they walked out of class, he would taunt her with a line or two about Cornelius and/or Joao. The corners of his lips upturned slightly at Pirate Elwood's response to his theory. Perhaps Scabior WAS using his abilities to beat them to the Great Hall. You never know. Anyway. He began jotting down his notes - chicken scratch if you ever saw it. It seemed as though all the other students had already contributed the thirteen different types of stones, though, so Paulie didn't want to be redundant. |
SPOILER!!: Elwood He nodded his head, making a talisman would've been awesome, but the blank face returned when the Professor said they were were tackling Lithomancy... which he had no clue what it was about. He continued scribbling on his parchment, listening to the Professor and what the other students were saying who seems to know a whole lot more than he did. When the Professor asked what stones meant what even his quill fell silent. Those stones meant something? The only thing he remotely knew about stones were those that supposedly corresponded to people's birthdays |
Silvia wrote down a few notes. Okay, so Lithomancy was divination with stones, and each of the thirteen stones represents something. But what they were called and what they represented she had no clue. The young Ravenclaw really didn't know anything about Lithomancy, or many forms of divination for that matter, seeing as she had never really studied or thought much of the subject before. She had only chosen to take it this year on a whim and to see how things went. So for now she settled for just taking notes. |

Please tell me one of the stones and what you think it would represent. Jonathan thought of this through. What were they again? The professor did mention about the planets and technically some students already did. Jonathan raised his hand recklessly without even thinking it "The Water stone, professor" opppps. What did it mean again? Jonathan took a tiny time to give it a thought and finally remembered "It's reconciliation, cleansing and healing" he said in a more confused tone, not really sure if that answer is correct. But it's worth the try. Definitely. |
SPOILER!!: The Catch Up Quote:
SPOILER!!: Nerida's Notes |
SPOILER!!: Student Answers and Responses Quote:
"Prefect Hollingberry brings up a good point, perhaps one that you all were wondering as well: Why does our reading include 13 stones?" She paused and returned from the board to her seat on the front edge of her desk. "Firstly let me just say that there are a few different types of Lithomancy readings where some use only 3 stones and another 16, but why 13 for ours?" She pointed at the list they now had on the blackboard behind her. Quote:
Tossing a strand of hair out of her face, Callie began again. "Now as for the last 5, they are typically up to the reader and are usually earth bound things like elements or at least something to do with human beings. For the sake of keeping things sane, we are all going to use the same five personal rocks." Once she had established some background on the rocks Professor Elwood decided they needed to move on. "So now that we have talked about the things we will use to do the reading, why don't we talk about what we will be casting them into. The feild, some call it, is made up of a string made out of whatever material you'd like placed on a flat surface. Typically the circle feild should be no larger than a foot wide to ensure a decent gathering of stones." She paused as she tried to think of how to phrase her next question. "The reading field is seperated into sections, does anyone have an ideas as to how many and what they stand for?" Definately an intermediate question but she felt they could handle it. |
Notes notes notes and more notes. Kurumi's hands flew over her parchment as she attempted to write down every detail to Professor Elwood's speech. Kurumi was interested in the historical significance behind it, the facts as it were. Those made sense and it probably came off that Kurumi was showing a genuine interest in Divination. So sorry, not the case really. Kurumi didn't have the Inner Eye and all that. It gave context to what they were doing as well...an ancient form of Divination as it were. Which was sort of interesting if you looked at it as reenacting things from the old days. Which is how Kurumi would have to do this in order to take things even remotely seriously. When Professor Elwood proposed her next question, the Gryffindor was instantly reminded of her Divination OWL and the Natal chart they had had to draw up. That had been divided into 12 sections, representing the zodiac and therefore the months of the year. Could it be that the same sort of principals applied here? Raising her hand, Kurumi ventured an educated guess. This was NOT to be confused with guess work. It had educated in the expression. "Professor, do these readings sort of relate to Natal Charts? Perhaps the space is divided up into 12 sections with each representing passing time...in weeks or days perhaps?" |
