After making your long journey to the seventh floor and after ascending the Divination Tower you finally arrive at the trap door leading up to the Divination Classroom--what can you say, the Hogwarts Staff wanted only the dedicated students to attempt the subject. After climbing the ladder into the classroom you will see that the once nearly empty room from the two previous terms before is now full of desks again and many other items brought by it's new inhabitant.
Go ahead and take a seat at one of the many chairs set up two to a small table on the risers at the far end of the room but as he you do you will pass the Professor's desk where a number of incense were burning. The room was stuffy as usual, with curtains pulled overly the windows.
Professor Elwood was seen sitting at her desk a small smile on her face as she nevously awaited the students of her first lesson as a teacher. Her parrot Galileo was sitting on his perch in the far corner of the room with a small sign on him that said, "Do NOT feed for fear of losing a finger!'.
The lesson shall begin shortly.
OCC: Welcome to my first lesson ever! Be sure to read the Divination Classroom Rules and familiarize yourself with them. I don't want to have to take points this early in the term. Also I will be updating this post with links to important things through the lesson so you won't be lost.

Urgh. Divination. not only did she completely not get this subject, but she had to traipse ALL THE WAY up to the seventh floor!
The room itself made her want to have a snooze.. 'Hello, professor!' Thea called brightly as she entered the room. Ooh, another new one? Mhm.
Wow, the walk up to the tower was long and it was TALL. She was panting a bit but on the way down it would be better. She didn't know why she took divination she wasn't a seer or anything special like that and she wasn't into exploring the future much but it had a cool name. And names were the reason sometimes she liked things.
Before taking a seat she greeted the professor. "Hello Professor! Hope your having a good day!" she said with a cheerful smile.

So Divination was going be Allegra's first subject on her comeback to Hogwarts. She didn't feel free enough to say she loved it, but it was good for the time being.
Walking across the room in her rather quiet manner, she quickly grabbed a seat and mumbled a quick greeting: "Good morning, Professor."

Hurrying to the Divination classroom, Kurumi wore a small scowl on her face. Honestly, if it weren't for Selina she probably would have dropped the subject long ago. Actually...that was probably a lie. Kurumi couldn't NOT attend a lesson no matter how much she disliked the subject and thought that it was rubbish and a bunch of guesswork.
Entering the classroom, Kurumi hurried to take her usual seat next to Selina and bowed quickly in the professor's direction. "Good day, Professor Elwood," Kurumi said with a somewhat forced smile on her face. She was here, just like she said she would be. Minus cookies. And with that, Kurumi took her seat next to Selina, setting her parchment and quill out on the table. Her eyes fell on the parrot in the corner and her eyes widened. If...they were going to lose a finger...why have it in the classroom?
"Hey Selina," Kurumi grumbled. "Have you found the professor's office yet?" It was hard to find considering that it looked like a storage closet on the outside with all that STUFF in the hallway.

Jezzabelle was ever so grateful that she had managed to maintain her position on the sixth floor because walking up a bazillion stairs was not worth on class. Then again, she hadn't really payed much attention in the last Divination class and maybe she'd actually enjoy what the new Professor had to teach.
Poking her head up through the trap door she looked around the room and nodded. It didn't seem too terribly packed yet right? She finished making her way in through the door and she crossed over to a seat that was empty. "Hello Professor..." Not only did she have to learn new names last year she had to learn more new names this year. Not fun.
She landed in the seat nearest the front but kind of front and center. It wasn't comfortable per say, what with the incense wafting in the air towards her. She would manage though.

Mika made her way to the classroom of the molting Professor and couldn't help but let out an audible squeak when she saw the parrot on its stool. it was so cute. What? They could be cute. Couldn't they?
"Hello Professor Ellwood!" she smiled as she made her way into the room and glanced around for anyone that she knew. "I'm Amelia Kaikoura Johanson" she smiled, and bounced on her feet. "Sooooo nice birdy" she smiled at it as she went to find a seat.

Theodore dragged himself to the Divination classroom, completely oblivious as to what the subject was. There was a lot here that he hadn't a clue about. But he kept his mind open.
Ughhhhhh, why did it have to be so high up!!!
After hesitating by the ladder, Theo very slowly hauled himself up and finally wandered into the room. He took a seat on one of the chairs, and looked around. One of the first again. Darn itttttttt.
"H-Hullo, professor."

But with a new professor, she decided to put these thoughts aside and give it a try. It sounded like it could be interesting. And if she didn't like it, she could always withdraw later, seeing as this wasn't one of the required classes.

The long journey from the dungeons to the Divination tower was a very long and difficult one, one which Delilah knew she was going to grow to resent. She'd decided to risk it today, and had her Superman socks on under her robes (which were slightly too long for her). As she entered the classroom, she looked over immediately to the teacher and smiled.
As she made her way to a table, something REALLY REALLY BRIGHT AND COLOURFUL caught her eyes.
It was a parrot! A real, living, breathing, possibly talking parrot!
Delilah's mind instantly forgot about going to a table, and instead she found herself wanting to go and find out if the parrot could talk....

Not to mention that the dark-haired girl was in a fairly good mood today.
With a rather wide smile on her face, the little and proud Gryffindor walked into the classroom. ''Hello professor!!!'' she greeted the new teacher with a shining smile right before the sight of the colourful bird took her attention. Ok... not quite the best thing to say to a Professor the first time you meet them. "Welcome to Hogwarts." That was better. Well, kinda... Once again there was another new teacher and as Ness walked past the new professor's desk and gave a small smile. "Good Morning, Professor." she continued walking but stopped midway to a seat.
What was that?
Her attention then turned to a bright colored thing sitting on what loooked like a perch in the corner of the classroom. It looked like..Ness walked a little closer, it looked like a..a parrot! So this Professor had a parrot? Why a parrot of all things? Who knew? Nessie certainly didn't. Maybe the professor's parrot could do magic or something, you never knew when it came to Hogwarts professors and all their weird things. Before she would go any nearer to the parrot, she noticed there was a big sign saying. 'Do NOT feed for fear of losing a finger!'.
Now that was creepy!
The badger backed away immediately and took a seat at an empty table.

As she walked into the classroom she was surprised to see that the tower once again looked like the Divination Tower. There was a personal touch to the room, as if someone had put the time into what was in the room. It brought a small smile to Selina's face as she surveyed the room. What had happened in here?

Calista greated each student with a nod and a friendly hello, chuckling at the few who decided to look and make faces at her little parrot Galileo. She gave them his name, for those who asked, and waited as they all took their seats. It seemed like she had a full house of students for today's lesson.

Callie got up from her desk and walked across the room, letting the trapdoor shut with a loud snap. "Alright everyone, welcome to your first Divination Lesson of the term. I am Professor Elwood and I am happy to be teaching at Hogwarts." Calista eyed each of the little faces looking back at her and wondered for a second if they were as nervous as she was right now--probably not. She leaned against the front of her desk allowing her flowy skirt to touch the floor and her sandals.
"Now you all have hopefully noticed that I am not a Centaur," they would need their eyes checked if they hadn't noticed the lack of tail, horse hair, and extra set of legs, "but even though I am not I am still quite capable of teaching you all about Divination."
"So I know that there are probably a few of you in here today that think or have heard from someone that Divination is a weak subject filled with guesses but that is simply not true. This subject has been a tool used for ages and by different societies all over the world." Her eyebrows and forehead creased as she spoke with passion about her subject. "What I would like to do since this is our first lesson, is see where your common misconceptions and the real deal meet." Calista took a break, to try and measure what they were thinking. Hopefully they were as excited about what they were going to do today as she was.
"Firstly I want each of you to let me know what you think is one of the most important thing you should do before you even think about doing a reading or practicing any of the many forms of Divination?" She was eager to hear their answers.

Nigel was skeptical about this whole divination thing. He did think it a weak subject filled with guesses. But he was willing to give it a shot. He hears the question the teacher ask and thought about the answer. He then says "I think you need to clear your mind first"

Divination is a weak subject filled with guesses...
Could Kurumi write that one down? Because that was sort of her in a nut shell. Honestly, Kurumi was one of those people who believed that if you did not poses the Inner Eye then there was really little point in even trying. After all...looking at a glob of tea leaves at the bottom of a cup and making up what you saw and not being sure about what you were seeing...certainly sounded like guessing to her...
Still, Kurumi remained quiet, simply looking at the professor before glancing over at Selina. What she she do before getting a vision? Erm...she sort of froze...and went into a trace and looked like she really wasn't thinking about anything. Slowly, Kurumi raised her hand."Professor, first you should...clear your mind of all distractions and thoughts?" Or find a Seer or a centaur. "And....um...get your supplies so you can actually do the reading."
Although that came after you had decided to do a reading. Whatever. This was GUESSwork already.

Zhenya couldn't help but let a small laugh escape. She sure was NOT a centaur, but that just made this Professor so much better immediately. He was rude and mean and she didn't like him one bit! Which was horrible because she liked this class.
She raised her hand and said, "Professor I find the most useful thing to do before practicing Divination is to clear my mind. If I'm thinking about something, usually in great detail, I just can't focus on Divination," she said.

Mika looked up at Professor Ellwood as she commented about not being a centaur. Well that would be obvious. She didn't smell like one now did she? Nope.
She looked up at Galileo and just smiled. Cute name for the bird. What was the first thing to do? She pondered the question for a minute. Concentrate? That was important right.
"I believe its important to calm your nerves - meditation can help...or just simple breathing techniques so that you clear your mind of all this unrelated to the technique you are using" basically don't think stupid things when divining or you'd get that as the question and not what you wanted to find.

Damon raised his hand, "I think it's clearing your mind of everything but what you need to think about."
Raising his hand he had a pretty good idea of what you needed for Divination. His mum was a seer, and had taught him well, and to respect all forms of Divination. "Ye need te haf a clear and open mind." he replied "If ye don't have an open mind it can bar ye from seeing what is really in front of ye, whether it be palmistry, tea leaves or even a crystal ball."

Umm… what to do before practicing divination, what to do… Emmanuelle was racking her brain for this one, when it came to her. "You have to gather your supplies and then clear your mind." Yep, that was it, she was pretty sure. After all, how could whatever told you the future communicate with you if your head was all full of lists and stuff?

Oichi was unsure about divination herself. From all she had read she was under the impression that divination was atleast partiallya subject for just certain people who are gifted for it. She heard the professors question and raised her hand and responded, "Well, I would think that the most important thing you should have before you try divination is an open mind. If you don't atleast have that then you won't have any conviction in to what you are trying predict. However, I have read that certain forms of divination can only be done by thosewith a certain gift. Is that true?".

Minerva thought about everything she had learned the last two terms and put her hand up. "Professor the most important thing is to not have anything going on in your head. Clearing the mind to fully focus."
Pyrsephonie had been doodling pictures of Faeries in her notebook when someone sad down next her and said hi. She looked up and saw Kaiden, the boy from the train. "Oh! Hello!" She said happily, smiling as always. "How've you been doing so far?"

How was he doing? Not so good. No, he was not going to be happy about his status.
Elwood? That was ringing a bell, but he couldn't figure it out. For some reason, he could hear his dad saying that. But what ever, it wasn't this Elwood. But divination, what did you know about the subject? Not a whole lot, just crystal balls, and seeing the future. Thinking about what one should do first, he raised his hand. "Um, You should be well rested, and not do it on a empty stomach. That way, you don't fall asleep looking into the crystal ball, or get distracted by stomach growls."

Now wait, who was the one who filled in her head about the subject being silly? Oh right, her dad. Feeling her face grow warm, she did have similar views.. Well, that was until Ruby told her how much better her OWL results would look and stuff. So, Kimalia rose her hand, "Well, you don't want to go into the subject with expectations, or have a closed view on it. Cause you can miss out of some of the good stuff if you don't keep an open mind." Was she right?
Kennedy bit his lip as he thought of an answer. Honestly, he wasn't good at this subject. At. All. But, he wanted to give it a try. Like his mom always says, 'it doesn't hurt to try'. Plus, this professor seem to be nice and maybe even understanding. She didn't seem like the type that would rip someone's head off for expressing the wrong answer. Using the latter as consolation, Kennedy raised his hand. "Um, besides clearing your mind, isn't it important to have an open mind as well because one can misinterpret a reading?" he said, which came out in question form.
Wasn't it though? Wasn't it important to be open to whatever you saw? Because a closed mind might not see what's there.

Truth be told Hannah did think that the subject was simply alot of guess work. I mean she had to climb allll of the stairs to learn about something that she thought was pretty pointless and she has yet to "see" anything. Still she needed to attend to do what she could for her house.
She thought about what the professor asked and the first thought that came to her mind was that she would have to stop smirking long enough to concentrate. She knew the professor would however not like that response.
Did they need to raise their hand? Better be on the safe side she thought to herself. After Charms class with that evil new professor she wasn't sure what would be expected of her. Hannah raised her hand. "Professor I think we would need to empty our minds and concentrate." Not that she personally thought this would help. "I also think we would need material...like candles and incense perhaps."
She left it alone at that because she was having a hard time trying not to smirk. She didn't see how doing any of these things would help, but whatever!

Well, thank Merlin she wasn't a centaur. Sierra had had just about enough of that creature who'd stolen her father's looks. It'd been creepy and somewhat embarrassing, and yeah...even though this woman taught one of Sierra's least favorite subjects, she was at least welcome in the prefect's eyes.
Sierra thought about the answer to the question then raised her hand. "Professor? I don't mean any disrespect with this answer, and it's my honest opinion, but I think what you really need to do is believe," she said then lowered her hand. "If I'm being honest, I don't really think Divination amounts to much, so I guess before I start practicing it, I really need to believe first." She shrugged. "Maybe it'll just come in time."
Addie thought about the question the professor had asked. Addie had never studied Divination before, her mom didn't think it was a worthy enough subject. So maybe forget about what other people think. "Professor people have said clear your mind. I think that is important but don't you want to be open to the Inner Eye. Open to foresight and things like that in Divination.". Addie was super excited for this class.
