Default DADA Notice Board

Hanging just outside the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom door is a medium sized noticeboard, protected by a thin piece of unbreakable glass to keep announcements clean from unwanted accidents or sneaky children trying to change the due dates of assignments. This is the place to find class times and homework assignments as well as any other DADA related announcements.

══════════════════════════════════
Defense Against the Dark Arts FINAL
══════════════════════════════════

IC: June 6 - 10
OOC: July 21 - 28

Sign-Ups HERE

There are two choices for which final you'd like to participate in:

► Essay and Speech

You must write a 20 inch essay (4 paragraphs minimum) and give a 3 minute speech on the dark creature of your choice. This may include vampires and werewolves if you so wish. You may be creative with your speech and give it in story form, however, it is still to follow the basic information that is written in your essay. Things to include, but not limited to, in your essay/speech can be as follows:
○ Characteristics of the dark creature
○ History of the dark creature
○ Popular opinion on why they are considered dark
Your opinion on why they are considered dark
○ A reference of where you found your information
Essays are to be handed in (via PM) to the Professor (Roselyn) before you give your speech.

OR

► Perform an Act

With your group, perform a creative 10 minute (7 posts minimum per person) act on the confrontation between a dark creature and witch/wizard. During this act, you will explain the reasons behind your character's movements and actions, as well as their history, or you may have one person explaining these reasons while the others perform if there are three in a group. Spells are to be used during these acts, in which the performers must be wearing protective gear. If spells become overly dangerous, become creative and find other safer ways to 'perform' your desired effects. Use of the defense classroom is recommended. There may be bonus points if you go all out with this act. Things to include in your act are as follows:
○ At least one dark creature and witch/wizard
○ A verbal narration of the story/history/and reasons behind the character's actions.
○ Two spells (or more)
○ (optional) Costumes/Background scenery

Safety guidelines are as follows:

○ The people playing the dark creature and witch/wizard must be wearing protective gear, in which can be found in the defense classroom.
○ Use of overly dangerous spells during your act will result in deductions from your overall grade and house points as well as detention if necessary.
○ If you're feeling ill/uncomfortable for any reason, please stop during your act, and we will figure something else out for you to receive a grade.

OOC: If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask the Professor or myself with the use of VM/PMs. Don't forget to Sign Up and please always remember the classroom rules as well as the SS Rules and SS RPG Rules.

►►Homework Two◄◄

○ Successfully 'defeat' your specific creature in the dueling arena 3 times by using the spells practiced during the lesson. You may practice on the dummies first or go straight ahead and start with the metal sculptures. [At least 5 posts]

○ Those of you whose creature did not have a sculpture:
Zombie - May practice on the Red Cap
Banshee - May Practice on the Red Cap
Werewolves - May practice on the Nundu
Quintaped - May practice on the Nundu
Vampires - May practice on the Grindylow
Giants/Trolls/Yeti - May practice on the Kappa
Inferi - May practice on the Kappa

SPOILER!!: The List
Giants/Trolls
Any spell can be used against giants and trolls, though most require great strength behind them or repeated attacks due to the tough skin. Areas to aim for would be upper chest area, back of legs, or middle of their back.
____Wingardium Leviosa
____Immobulus
____Stupefy
____Incarcerous

Yeti
A yeti may be related to the troll. Any spell can be used against them, though most require great strength behind them or repeated attacks due to large amounts of protective fur. They fear fire most of all.
____Incendio
____Incarcerous
____Stupefy
____Immobulus

Vampires
Considered as a 'being', any spell would be useful against them, such as whatever spells you'd use to defend yourself against another witch or wizard.
____Immobulus
____Impedimenta
____Petricifus Totalus

Grindylows
Be careful not to stun these creatures if attached to you, for their fingers will not pull free.
____Relashio
____Immobulus
____Stupefy

Kappa
Will also respond to politeness. If you are polite to them, they will be polite to you. Also, keep in mind, the cucumber being conjured is not an actual cucumber. It will taste, feel, look like a cucumber, but will not have the actual nutritional properties of a cucumber. You cannot survive off it, as it is not a food. [Term 25]
____Cucurbita Intaglio [Cucumber Conjuring]
____Siccus Aerous [Hot-Air Charm]
____Tergeo
____Incendio

Red Caps
Can easily be repelled with various charms and hexes.
____Stupefy
____Immobulus

Kelpies
It is best to revert these creatures back to their original form before giving any attempt to subdue them. Best to do so at a distance.
____Reverto
____Fixate [Placement Charm]

Basilisks
These creatures paralyze and kill people with just their eyes. Use of blindfolds for yourself would be a smart move to resist temptation as well as any spell to harm the basilisks eyes. If done so, silencing your footsteps and movements should be your next move before escaping, for the basilisk will still be able to hear you.
____Obscuro
____Conjunctivitis
____Silencio

Boggarts
Funny thoughts and correct pronunciation of the spell are key.
____Riddikulus

Hinkypunks
Standing your ground when confronted with one of these creatures is crucial. Do not let them lure you into bogs. Glue your shoes to the floor if necessary.
____Lumos Duo
____Flipendo

Werewolves
Any spell that can be used at a distance would be best.
____Stupefy
____Immobulus
____Incarcerous

Nundus
Best to get somewhere high when dealing with these creatures.
____Incarcerous
____Stupefy
____Immobulus
____Viseo Ebullio [Bubble-Head Charm]

Dementors
Not just any happy memory will do. Powerfully happy memories and pronunciation of the spell are key. Close your eyes if you have to so you can imagine it better, letting the emotions fill you up.
____Expecto Patronum [Patronus Charm]

Lethifold
Do not lose sight of the lethifold when confronted. Again, powerfully happy memories are key as is the pronuciation of the spell.
____Expecto Patronum [Patronus Charm]

Zombies
If confronted with these creatures, it is best to stay at a distance. Their rotten smell can become enough to knock someone out or keel over. It is best to escape as quickly as possible.
____Incarcerous
____Stupefy

Inferi
If confronted with these creatures, it is best to stay at a distance. These creatures dislike light and heat, so any fire spell, such as "firestorm", will be useful against them.
____Incendio
____Stupefy
____Impedimenta

Quintaped
It is best to fight these creatures at a distance and to escape as quickly as possible. They have a particularly big appetite for humans.
____Impedimenta
____Stupefy
____Incarcerous

Banshee
It is best to escape as quickly as possible. Conjuring earmuffs would be the best possibility if you aren't able to break their neck, though few spells can help you get away if earmuffs are a problem. Be warned, these spells will do little to help silence their screams. Use the bubble-head charm to try to muffle the sound a little.
____Incarcerous
____Stupefy
____Viseo Ebullio [Bubble-Head Charm]

Pogrebin
Most hexes, stunning spells, and cheering charms can be used against the progrebin.
____Stupefy
____Verdimillious [Offensive side][Variation of Verdillious and Vermillious]
